Somehow I managed to lose 3lb over the past fortnight. And that was without exercising. Have now lost my first stone.

Oh TQ, don't worry. You're not the only one. I'm sure I've gained loads after coming off the diet completely. I'm still not back on it properly (yesterday I ate 3 bowls of ice cream!!!). A few days ago I went to Boots and found that I've put on about 5lbs, so God knows how much it'll be by next Tuesday! :(

I have this feeling that if I've put on a lot it's not worth carrying on with the diet. I know it's wrong, as I can't have put back on everything I'd lost in two weeks, and even if I had, it's still worth losing it again. :) But you've lost so much that this is just a blip, and I hope you had a fun Xmas putting it all on. I know I did. :D

well girls like you I've had a really bad weigh in too I gained 9lbs...the only difference is my crime is just being a woman...i;'ve done nothing wrng as far as eating goes, but TOM has raised its ugly head...I knew it was going to be a bad one this month because I have been getting more and more bloated daily since last friday...yesterday I had to resort back tio wearing a pair of size 16 jeans because I just couldn't get into anything else. At the time I didn't feel as though I had been deprived of anything over christmas and new year, tho I could have murdered for some of all the chocolate gateauxs that were floating around, but I didn't give in....now I am asking myself was it all worth it...of course I know it is really and at least this 9lb is just fluid, if I had given in it would have been more and not just fluid. still its only 9lbs and not the highest I have ever gained at this time of the month...looking back since I started keeping track of my weight gains at this time my highest was 21lbs gain...and it didn't all come off the following week it took 2 :(
I am totally miserable today now...not the way I wanted to start the new year off :(

Chins up girls. Your weigh in's aren't totally bad after this holiday season. And you know from past experiences that it'll all soon be gone again, especially the fluids!
Everyone has done so well in the past year I've been visiting this site, and I know you'll all be an inspiration to me once again this year, I want to be an inspiration to someone this year too.

I wish I had a magic wand and could make all the festive and TOM gains disappear.

I've yet to face mine on Monday night, at a new class ???? My scales were showing a 2lbs gain after a boozey night, but I reckon now I am rehydrated and after all the eating and drinking I am doing tonight, it will be more than that.

During the weeks before xmas my weight had been hovering between 11st 11lbs and 12st 4lbs, the last time I weighed myself before xmas I was 12st 2lbs, now after xmas I am 12st 1lb????!

I dont understand! I was such a pig over xmas! Chocolate, biscuits, fizzy drinks, alcohol and we had family down so we went out for dinner and lunch a lot which meant pizza, chips, lasagne, burgers, curry plus puddings!!!!!

I went out clubbing with my mates more than usual coz they were back from uni, so perhaps dancing the night away helped?

Obviously Im pleased, but part of me is kinda annoyed too, coz all year (minus my 2 weeks on holiday anyway!) Ive been eating really healthily, weeks with no chocolate, crisps, chips, cakes, biscuits, sweets etc and Ive only lost a stone, then I eat crap over xmas and lose a lb? Im glad Ive lost a lb over xmas, but how come when I eat 10 times healthier than that I often dont lose a thing or put on a couple of lbs?

U probably all think Im a right ***** for losing a lb by being a pig, sorry!

But Im really confused now though and I dont know what to do!

tupperware queen
01-05-2003, 02:04 PM
Well done Chi chi chi!! maybe you did plenty of exercise dancing the night away or something, whatever happened it sounds good to me. I once lost 1 and a half pound over Christmas and couldn't believe my luck. I made sure that didn't happen this year hee hee!!

Hi All

I haven't posted since September and my weight has steadily increased so I'm almost a stone heavier than when I last "spoke" to you all and I have decided that THIS YEAR is the year that I must deal with it - I'm 40 in 2004 and don't want to be "fat and 40".

I actually started the diet a couple of days ago but am going to have my first official weigh-day as next Wednesday - so my first weeks loss will actually be 1 1/2 weeks. I suppose this is unnecessarily complicated but I want my weigh-in to be on a Wednesday but didn't want to lose any more time before starting!;)

I hope no-one minds me rejoining after so long.

Welcome back Helen, you're not the only one who has been missing for a bit. I have crept back in too, but wasn't as polite as you asking if I could, just barged back on in....how rude hey? Ooops!
I'm doing a Weds weigh in too and hoping for a loss, I have been good so far.....

TracyLangford
01-06-2003, 01:10 AM
I have also not posted for sometime but want to rejoin as I, also, have decided that this is the year. I have put on about 1/2 stone since August time when i went 'absent'.

Today normality returns and, along with it, my healthy eating plan. DH bought me a bike for christmas and i have been out riding it most days (and am thoroughly enjoying it - much to my surprise!) I have also done a quite a bit of walking over the past couple of weeks which i hope to slowly increase. The rebounder has been bought out and dusted down and the video repaired so that i can do my excercise tapes daily as well. My weigh in day will also be on a wednesday for the time being, although this may change if i can rearrange my life to get to a class - i looked at joining WW online but it is quite costly so, for the moment at least, will just be doing my own thing.

What a coincidence - bet you are really twins who were seperated at birth for some reality TV programme which will be shown this autumn to explain the ESP between you, even though you didn't know you were related.

Ok, my imagination is running riot, but it is a big concidence or fate - who knows. Has anybody seen the film Serendipity, all about fate when two lovers meet. My fingers are running away with me again.

Will shut up

Gained a lb tonight, a whole pound. I am cock-a-hoop. 1 pound instead of the 7 or 10 or 14 or even more. Where has all the food and wine I have drunk gone. I have been walking , but I haven't walked that far. Think I have been very very lucky this year, am still grinning ear to ear.

Smiling Sal

Here are the losses for this week.

Chi Chi = -1lb
Leigh = -3lb
Posy = +9lbs
Sal = +1lb
TQ = +10lbs

Giving us a festive gain of 16lbs. It had to happen it was that time of year.

Personally I think that TOM has an awful lot to do with it and we will see some amazing losses this week.

Arwen

Thanks for the welcoming back messages. I promise to do better this time (hangs head in shame).

Today has gone really well and I still have 3 points left which I don't even want to eat!

Teel, I'm wondering if we need to lose anything near the same amount of weight; that would make us real cyber-twins and give us some healthy competition as we have the same deadline! Mind you, I may have another baby before I'm 40 which will somewhat affect my chances! I am slightly under 5ft and need to lose 101lb, but I'm trying to just concentrate on how well I do today and not look at the whole picture or I will give up before I've barely started:(

Carol, your post was really funny. I love your sense of humour;)

Is there a thread where we post what we've eaten each day? I don't have much of an imagination when it comes to thinking of meals, especially breakfast and seeing what other people eat can sometimes give me some good suggestions to try.

BritinNJ

Way to go Carol! Hope I show a loss on Weds. I am being very good, but I feel fatter! Mind you I felt this way last year too, until I'd lost the first ten pounds and then I felt thinner as the pounds came off...does this make sense? Probably not. What I mean is I hope I have lost from being good, cos my body still feels like all the poundage is still there...

Well I have been avoiding this - I currently weight 14st 2lbs :yikes: a real gain of 0.5lb since I went to WW the 2nd week of December and a possible 4lb gain - as one of the days hubby was in hospital I weighed myself and I think I was 13st 12lbs - but hey I was really stressed and tired and maybe that's what my mind wanted me to see

To me, it was such a major step posting my actual weight - did anyone else feel like this?

However I was 15st earlier in the year, so one way or another I have managed to lose weight throughout the year.

Slid off the rails a bit yesterday when my brother came round to cook dinner (vegan so roasted veg with rice, salad and ciabbatta) and the good work was rather undone by several glasses of wine. I think I only went a couple of points over though and I did have 3 banked from the day before.

When I weighed myself today I was pleased that I have managed to lose 2lb. This is since Friday (and Saturday was a non dieting day) so not a full week.

Today I managed to cook veg lasagne from scratch when I got home from work at 5.30 so thats another thing for me to be pleased about - usually I'm too tired and end up shoving a ready meal in the oven. I still have some points left too!

Congratulations to everyone who has lost weight so far this week and good luck to those who are still waiting to find out.

Hi everyone

still having a hard time dealing with this weight gain even though I know what it is...TOM is still with me and the scales still don't say any less :(
Trying not to let myself feel too depressed all the time and I am working out a little longer each day to try to help speed things up a bit...actually I am doing it to also keep my mind off it, it seems to help :)

Hope everyone is doing ok and getting back into the swing of things after christmas. now I've been back at work for a week, christmas seems to be a long forgotten memory. Isn't it funny how quickly we get back into our normal routines...I think I could get used to a routine that didn't involve getting up at the crack of dawn and working all day everyday... Yeah right , like that is ever going to happen :)

TQ, Ali, Leigh-R, fandabidozi!!! You are all stars in my book.
I just got my Christmas parcel from my Mum, I am well ticked off with Royal and US mail, she posted it on Dec fifth and it has just arrived here today and she had to pay 59 pounds postage, and sent it air mail and the cheeky beggars sent it surface.
Needless to say, she put some treats in for all of us, my Auntie even shoved some rock cakes in...and they're still fresh!! Anyhoo, I shall need some extra help to ration out the biccies, I just checked the points and a digestive is 2 points each and so is a hob-nob, so they will have to be counted. I will need the will power to stop me from shoving them all down my throat as I can be such a piggy :( She also sent the cadbury tree chocs, anyone have any ide what the points might be on one of those? I'll try and make the kids eat them all, but I don't know if I can resist just one.......HELP ME PLEASE. Thanks in advance.

Weighed this morning, a bit disappointed only lost 2 lbs especially as at my sneaky peak weigh in mid way through last week I'd lost 4, but I know, that's weight loss for you, never does what you think it's going to do. It is that TOM too, so hopefully it'll look a bit better by next week.

Well my week started of great. We took the kids to the park this morning, after pushing them aound on the roundabout and then on the swings, one of them asked me to get on the swings with them. It was something I have never even thought of doing for years because I just knew I wouldn't be able to get my butt in the seat. Today I did, then my sister shouted lets make auntie Ali go on the slide, and before I had even thought about it I was at the top and sliding down. I had a brilliant time, I probably enjoyed it more than the kids :) and it must have been great exercise too.
I had forgotten just how much fun it was to be a child ...now I feel like a child in an adult body....Hubby says sometimes I have the mind of a child...especially when I sulk coz he wont buy me something I want :)

I am dreading weigh-in tomorrow. I have stuck to my points all week, gone under on most days but weighed myself on Sunday morning to find my weight has gone back up to what it was before I started dieting:cry: It hadn't gone down this morning either.

The only thing I can think of is that I was weighing myself about 11am during the holidays but that has moved to 7am now I'm back at work etc. I can weigh myself tomorrow at both times just to see but that means I won't have time for breakfast after the 11am weigh in before going to work and I will be at work from 12 till 8 so could do with food before I go really.

Anyway I feel more positive about this diet than I have ever felt before but I feel that things are conspiring against me.

On a brighter note though I decided I would go over my points tonight with a milky coffee containing kahlua and 3 after eights. I ate the after eights but didn't drink more than 3 mouthfuls of the coffee so I do feel positive that I've avoided starting a binge:)

Tomorrow I'm going to start the Wendie plan. I saw the url somewhere on this site. It involves varying the WW points each day so your body doesn't get too used to the amount I am eating. See if I do any better on that.

I'm pleased to announce that a miracle has happened in our house overnight and I have lost another 3lb:smug:

I've also decided to move my weigh-in time forward an hour a week until I reach 7am.

There is already a jacket potato in the oven for lunch (with beans) and I will buy a count-on-us pasta salad on the way into work for later. Hopefully I will still have plenty of points left for something when I get home from work tonight too.

Good luck to everyone else who weighs in today!

I'm off to do a happy dance now:)

Well done Arwen, try to get weighed just once a week, I know it's hard but its harder to understand the fluctuations of our body weight.

Cheers you lot. I have a feeling that I will gain next week though. It is regular as clockwork 2lb on one week and 2lb off the next. I must check but I think I put on 1 week before my period and seem to lose it the week I am on. Am I weird or what?

It is my star week as we say at my club. I came on just after my class. I feel like crap but at least I am 2lb lighter!

Did anyone see that thing on TV called Bloody Women? It was on after Sex in the City.

Glad to know I am not alone but did not really offer any help.

And I am a happy bunny again this week :) The scales said another four pounds off this week, so I am well chuffed, I am, I am.
It is hard to keep off the scales I know, but I do try, plus, the battery doesn't last very long in mine if I keep hopping every time I pass them! So that keeps me off.
Have a wonderful day everyone.

I too am a habitual weigher, but I've weaned myself down to 3 times a week - Monday, Weds & Friday oh and sometimes on a Saturday. But my "official" weigh I do on a Monday morning, I just like to keep a check of how it's going throughout the week, and although its sometimes disappointing like this week when on Monday I was more than I'd been half-way through the week, I feel it helps me to see the fluctuations and I now know that it does go up and down for no reason at all.

Great Job Helen...i'm a compulsive weigher too :( i think i hop on it every time i go for a pee  and i should stop because as the day goes on the weight goes up  and that affects my mood i.e. "this is'nt working" "why do i bother?" which usually ends up with me eating chocolate or biscuits  i'm going to put it in the closet and only let it out on friday's

Yes,Peacock!!! I am sure the 3fcs included him in the smilie list 'cos he's a dead ringer for Harvey...!I think he is actually quite cute, but then I do wonder about my sense of humour sometimes.....:D

I am confessing here that I have had a completely hopeless day as far as weight loss and sensible eating is concerned.I haven't eaten a lot....just all the wrong things and not because I needed to eat.:( All my own fault I know. And tomorrow I am having lunch out with a friend at an eatery pub. So I guess in advance that tomorrow will not be op and angelic, either. I WILL START AGAIN ON FRIDAY...I have come too far to let it go now.

Arwen
01-15-2003, 05:29 PM
congratulations to Chris and Peacock!:)

I think the only way to avoid standing on the scales all the time is to take the battery out, at least that means standing on them involves a lot more effort. I was determined not to get into that habit this time and I've slipped back into it after only a week. And I only stood on them initially so I could pat myself on the back at how well I'd done so far. If only I'd known:cry:

I think I will take the battery out on the way to bed.

teel
01-15-2003, 05:44 PM
It is SOOOO tempting to jump on and off the scales! But then so soul destroying when they move in every direction except the one you want them to...!

I read somewhere a fairly fool-proof way of dealing with this...throw your scales out, find a pay and weigh scale in a shop and once a week, weigh yourself in as near as possible the same condition that you were weighed in, the previous week. This way, you know the scales are in the same spot, and because of having to pay, say 20p everytime you weigh, you will soon find yourself only weighing once a week!!!
I think this could be a good plan, for I am one of those that jumps on the scale two or three times a day, if I am not happy with the first result!!! But, as yet I have not been strong enough to carry this out....one day....one day!

Arwen
01-15-2003, 05:51 PM
Hi Teel

Will try taking the battery out and if that doesn't work will follow your suggestion. I'm worried weighing myself in shops though that people are thinking "why is she weighing herself, can't she tell she's fat"!

leigh-r
01-15-2003, 06:37 PM
I weigh myself in Asda at the back of the checkouts. It isn't exactly what I want but I can't afford to go to a slimming club. It is off putting though as they have little kiddies ride on thingy at the side. And I feel that everyone is watching me as I stand on the scales. The machine also says "please stand up straight and still, measuring your weight and height". Thank god it doesn't actually yell out my exact weight as well or I would die.

Posy
01-16-2003, 02:38 AM
I think it is just human nature, there aren't many people I know that are trying to lose weight who can manage to just weigh themselves once a week, even those that pay to go to slimming clubs, they still have a sneaky look on their own scales, Yes..including me :) and it is amazing just how much weight you can gain and lose over the course of a week on a daily basis.
I think Teel is right the only way to stop yourself doing it is if you don't have any scales in the house.....hubby paid a lot of oney for my scales...don't think he would be very happy if I threw them out :)

Im so confused, should I stop exersizing and eat like a pig again?!

Well done Cathy, must be all the walking you do. I think I need a treadmill....must talk to Dave about it, hehe.
Chi-Chi, I think Carol could be right and you are gaining due to the muscle building up with all the exercise, I think Steph wrote about this happening to someone in another thread somewhere. It was explained really well.

01-17-2003, 09:14 PM
Chichichi...can you pinpoint one food that you are eating a lot of :?: maybe there is one food that is a trigger for you..are you eating a lot of potatoes? or something else..it could be something as stupid as to much salt...or even to much flour..the only thing i can suggest is that you eliminate the things that you eat a lot of one at a time and substitute something else then see what happens...i don't think it can be muscle because from what i've read it takes ages to build that up.

The only thing I can think of that maybe I eat too much of is bread coz I always have toast for breakfast and a sandwich for lunch, but I could try swapping toast for cereal I suppose but its a bit difficult to have anything other than a sandwich for lunch coz its needs to be something that I cant make quickly in the morning and carry round college with me til lunchtime, I cant really afford to buy lunch everyday.

But I ate lots of bread when I first started trying to lose weight and I lost over a stone!

cat90

Well done TQ, any loss is a step in the right direction.

I like a good foot stamp, gets all the agression and tension out of you

What about salt Chichi, their is a woman at my class who sticks to plan, so she says, and rarely losses, but she adds a lot of salt to her food and this was dehydrating her and her body was hanging on to every little bit of fluid she drank.

I have no idea how much salt this woman adds to food, must be an awful lot.

A 6lb loss this week...sounds really impressive at this stage of the game doesn't it...I know it is only the fluid I gained from TOM, and if you look at it the other way, it means, I haven't actually lost any weight for the past 2 weeks...lets not look at it that way then :)

Hi all

A good week for me, I lost 3lbs and I did a naughty evening of pizza & ice-cream with a friend, so I'm well pleased with that, although some of it is from the previous week, when I expected a better loss but didn't due to TOM.

So a good start to the year, i too have some dieting distractions coming up next month TQ, so I'm trying to get a head start with it, so to speak!

Chichi, I wonder if it is water retention, someone mentioned too much salt, are you drinking your water daily, as your body will hold on to its water if you're not drinking enough. It's so frustrating when the scaled don't reward your hard work, but sometimes this weight loss business is a law unto itself.

My advice would be to carry on with the good work, keep exercising and drinking loads of water and it should catch up with you. Best of luck

OK sigh of relief here. I said last night I felt as if I'd not lost an ounce, and I haven't. But..I haven't gained either, so I am ok with that. I find it strange not to have a loss in my third week though, although I've taken a pills this week for allergies and headaches and I have been told that they can slow the weightloss. It happened to me last year after I hurt my knee, I kept gaining even though I was on program, and when I came off the tablets it showed a 7lb loss in one week :) Maybe I'll have a good loss again next week.

Arwen
01-22-2003, 12:41 PM
Well done Melissa, 5lb is a great loss.

Chris, it sounds to me like you will have another good loss when you come off your tablets again if thats whats happened before so don't get disallusioned because you can't see the loss on the scales at the moment:)

Talking of scales, I have managed to not stand on them all week so I need to pat myself on the back I think as that is a big achievement for me:smug: I've also managed to lose 2lb this week so have now lost my first 1/2 stone.

And I managed to get my daughter into nursery a bit earlier today as there was a vacancy so got to go swimming for the first time since june. Did 20 lengths and could have done a few more but ran out of time as I needed to get to work.

All in all a good day - until the bus stopped suddenly just as I was getting off and I fell over. Embarassing or what:o

Ah! Never mind TQ. Join me in the naught corner! I expect I shall be put there tonight! I have indugled rather this weekend (paid on Friday -that's why!). I actually indugled in alcohol on Saturday night! Double brandies. ALong with pierogi smothered in butter. Then on Sunday I had a cauliflower cheese from M&S along with a pot of vintage cheddar mash and spinach. In case that didn't quite do enough damage I then had a M&S chocolate covered marzipan bar (well alright! 2!). Then I had a very small pot of Haagen Daz baileys ice cream.

Then, (yes there is more!). I decided to have lunch with a friend today so went to the greasy spoon for a number 8. (fried eg, mushrooms, chips and beans). Oh! and a not slimming raspberry yoghurt and a marzipan bar. I think I will have to enlarge the naughty corner.....Fancy having to be weighed on a Monday evening!

I shall console myself by going to the pictures afterwards. I will probably see Gangs of New York, as I will see Chicago tomorrow with a friend.

Have a good week (well, better than mine anyway!).

Hiya Everyone

I'm another one who hasn't mailed for months but would like to sneak back in, please!

I had several false starts where I knew my heart wasn't in it before I even started, so it's no wonder those attempts were doomed to failure. However, I now seem to have found my motivation from somewhere again, & I'm back on it with a vengeance!

I rejoined WW nearly 2 weeks ago (weigh-day is Wednesday), & last week I lost 5lbs. Not to mention that I think I also need to compile a list of questions because there are so many things I keep thinking of that I need to ask. Posy, you have been warned:D

Cathy, no need to feel left out! Vancouver, no problem. Whats the best time of year to visit:)

Woah, I lost 5lbs this week. That's me officially back to my pre-'Christmas 3 week diet holiday' weight. And just two more pounds to go for my 2 stone award. I think this coming week might be less dramatic as I'm going to visit my family from tomorrow to monday (for the first time in a year and a half? - it's 11hrs from scotland to cornwall).

I'm pleased to be seeing them all again when I'm feeling slimmer than normal, hopefully I'm not heavier than when I last saw them, but I'm not sure what I weighed then.

Anyway, must sleep it's an early start. :D

well done mini gem. It is always good to see family you haven't seen for a while when you are feeling so good. I lived in stoke on trent for 5 years and didn't see much of my family while I was over there because I owned a pub and it was difficult to get time off to visit even though it was only 60 miles away. I remember coming over after I had lost almost 4 stone, I was feeling absolutely brilliant and although I didn't come over with the intention of wanting loads of compliments, I did expect someone to at least make a comment that I looked slimmer, but no one did, until I actually brought up the subject myself and then it felt like they were saying it just because they thought it was what I wanted to hear not because they had noticed and I was really upset about it. It spoilt my visit. Don't let that happen to you. You have a great time :)

On the positive side, the one thing it did do, was make me more determined to lose more weight and really make them notice the next time I saw them :)

Hi to everyone...from a bitterly freezing cold, windy and snowy Suffolk. Gosh it has been absolutely bbbrrrrrrrr!
All my plans for the weekend have gone astray because of the snow. Honestly, England has this little bit of winter weather over a couple of days and the country grinds to a halt...Somewhere in the Alpine regions have to be prepared and live and work in this several months a year....
Friends of mine who live 90 miles away were coming to stay from tonight till Sunday, primarily to have a photo-portrait done for my Christmas present. So, that has been postponed for tomorrow and they are not coming, so Iwill have to organise another visit to the hairdressers and try and wait patiently for the next opportunity when we are all free....and I sat in all day waiting for the courier delivery of my new mobile phone which never turned up and now I cannot have it delivered till Tuesday....aaaaarghhhh.:?: :(
And the car is taking it's m.o.t. test on Wednesday which it fails year on year with unacceptable exhaust fume levels, something it has done ever since it had it's first test 7 or so years ago...my goodness I feel SO STRESSED out tonight......

  :stress: :stress: :headache: :hyper:

Melissa, the main thing is not to get discouraged.

As you say "press-on" and ye shall be rewarded! Don't get demoralised or depressed by your weigh-in and remember that its quite possible that next week will show a good loss.

I am speaking from experience here. Previously I have let a bad weigh-in (ie a smaller loss than I had hoped for) or bad dieting day turn into a week of overeating - but no longer:)

Hi everyone!

Against all the odds (crisps, chocolate, chips, the occasional glass of wine) I have lost half a pound.

We had a shock moment at the class tonight. SOmeone brought their little girl who we put on the scales and she weighed 3 and a half stone. This is the amount my friend Wands has lost so far! Wanda cried out Oh God! I've lost a child!
That is quite something when you think about it. I have to lose just over "the child" so it really made me think as well! Imagine if your are setting your heart on losing two or three!

As for my weigh in, well I am happy to report that the 3lbs I gained with TOM has gone, I was hoping to have lost a little more just to get me under 11 stone 7lbs, but it wasn't to be, I was 4oz short of being 11 stone 6lbs, but not to worry I will work hard this week and hopefully get below it.
Today is the anniversary of starting my diet, exactly 2 years. You already know I was desperate to be at my goal for today, but I got so close, only 7lbs away from it, so I am not too disappointed. I have just dragged all my clothes out of the wardrobe that I saved from back then and looked at the size of them compared to what I am wearing now...then a size 30 - 32...now a size 12 - 14...size 12's at a squeeze :)

I am really hoping to lose 3lb this week (wednesday weigh-in) so I can reach my 1st stone lost before visiting my parents next week. Once I'm there I think things should be ok as mum is also on a diet and dad has to be careful with what he eats as he suffers from angina. Husband will just have to eat whilst we are out of the house! What bothers me more is the 17th century banquet on saturday night with something like 20 dishes, all cooked in an authentic manner, even the veg isn't unadulterated. I just know I will overdo it. We are visiting my parents from Sunday to Tuesday night so I'll be back home for weigh-in on Wednesday. Seriously wondering if I should take the scales with me.

02-17-2003, 02:57 AM
Hi everyone

weigh in was very disappointing again...I stayed the same...I have been doing a lot of thinking about this and I have come to the decision that I may be undereating. I limit myself to 1000 calories a day now which is what the slimming magazines recommend if you have less than 14lbs to lose. Now if you look at the charts in the magazines, my weight range is 142lbs - 154lbs so the 154lbs I am aiming for is the maximum and if I was aiming for the 142lbs then it is more than 14lbs away and accordingly I should still be eating 1250 calories a day. So for the next 2 weeks I am increasing my calories back to 1250 a day to see if that makes a difference. Hey the worst that can happen is I may gain a pound or two, but that isn't the end of the world, at least I will know for certain if I am eating the correct amount and if I do gain I can always go back to the 1000 cals a day without too much trouble.
I just feel as though I am in a rut and I need to do something to try to get these pounds moving again.
I am not too depressed about staying the same again tho, I am getting pretty used to that, when I do feel down about it I look in the mirror, it certainly is much more pleasant seeing what looks back at me now than what looked back 2 years ago :)...I bet any money once I get to goal it wont be as easy to keep staying the same and I will be complaining about that too.

Can I just say Jesus Christ. This was actually quite embarrassing. This week I lost 10lbs!

I wouldn't be complaining if I thought by some miracle I'd actually lost that amount of fat, but in one week I seriously doubt it. I've been thinking about this and here's what I think has happened.

Last week I could have been retaining water. I had a weight loss of 1lb over the previous fortnight, so maybe I'd actually lost another couple of pounds (though I wasn't very on plan).

When I've got my period I can become very sensitive to fat in my diet, and it was just like that this week. I lost my appetite and for about 3 days before weighing in I ate only one meal (and a reasonably light one at that) a day.

I hadn't eaten anything all day (except some sugar free mints) before I weighed in, so I didn't even have the usual weight of food in my stomach.

Anyone want to take bets on how much I put on next week, just through eating normally again?

Losing 1lb got me my 2 stone award (yay) and my club 10. I really do feel better for having lost 10% of my starting weight, even though by my bmi I'm still obese and need to lose nearly another stone before I'm just overweight.

Because of this crazy loss, I also got my 2.5 stone award last night, but I just don't feel like I've earnt it - the weigh-in lady insisted that she had to put the sticker in my book.

Well good luck to everyone else, can anyone beat that one week loss? ;)

Well done Mini Gem - you are amazing. Just stick to plan and I will bet that very little of it goes back on next week.

I lost 0.5lbs this week. Think TOM is due, can never tell. Feeling the right way for it to be nearly here and have a spot on my chin, so what more proof do I need. It just needs to get a move on and start before next weeks weigh in.

Have been lacking in my weight loss counter duties, will go find a bit of paper and work it all out.

Well done chris and leigh-r :)

Chin up Melissa, just hang in there :)

In one of the other threads I post on I was asked exactly what I ate to stay within my calorie allowance...I always tell people I have a huge plate and I fill it with veg to bulk it out and fill me up along with my usual ww ready meal or whatever I have with it. I always tell people I eat loads of veg but just saying that doesn't really give you any indication of exactly how much that is.
So finally I had the bright idea of taking a photograph to show you all the size of my plate and how much food is on it.
The meal on this plate totals 322 calories and when you see it you will understand why I am never hungry.
Hubby is always asking if I need help to carry my plate and when people see me eating from it they can't believe I eat so much and still lose weight.
I just posted it in my gallery if you all want to go and have a look

Goodness gracious Ali, you are so tiny and that plate is huge! No wonder you hubby offers you help to carry it. What sort of veggies do you eat on a regualr basis?

every day chris for lunch with my sandwich made with ww bread I have a huge mixed salad, and what was on my plate which also is something I eat every day is cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, green beans, runner beans and brussell sprouts.
people keep asking if I ever get sick of eating the same veg over and over again, but I don't I just vary the way I serve it. Last night I chopped it all up into little pieces and mixed it all together and poured the tagliatelle over the top, other times I just serve it all out on the plate individually so that it looks nice :)
I keep raw veg and salad in the fridge to snack on and also some ready cooked, which I nibble on cold...hubby thinks that is disgusting, cold cooked veg, but hey there are no calories in it and I actually like it :)

And I thought I ate a lot of veg, my plate is nowhere near as full as yours Ali, maybe that is where I am going wrong.

I try to eat a mixture of veg with my dinner every evening and have a large salad with a sandwich at lunch as well. Guess I must be doing better than I thought

Well done to everyone who has lost this week - MG thats brill 10lb is fantastic, whatever the reason:)

I've had a 17th century banquet to contend with this week as well as 3 days visiting my parents in Wales so I was pleased to find I'd stayed the same.

The banquet was really good but I only had one spoonful of most of the dishes and some I didn't try at all. I avoided the desserts like the plague but did drink a whole bottle of white wine. I also did some very energetic dancing (loosely classed as a jig) in a pure wool dress so that must have burnt up some calories. All I can say is no wonder they all died young if thats the sort of temperature their bodies heated upto on a regular basis!

Parents was OK too dietwise. Did succumb to wine with the evening meal and a dessert but obviously didn't do too much harm. If we hadn't had lunch out on Tuesday (veg lasagne and chips) I might even have managed a slight loss!

Actually found it harder to get back to counting points once we got home but today was OK so think I've got back into the swing of it now.

Hi everyone

sorry I haven't been around to post. I was hit with this vomiting and throat bug that has been doing the rounds on friday and I only managed to get myself out of bed yesterday :(

weigh in was a gain of 3lbs, which the doctor and dietician said I should have been looking for so that was a good thing, the only problem I have with that now is that I realised TOM is due this week so if I have another gain I wont know if it is caused by the increase in calories or TOM. I spoke to the doctor again yesterday about it and she said I may just have to scrap this months weights and restart again after TOM to be sure, so I am not looking forward to this coming weigh in at all, its hard enough to see a gain at TOM but at least I know the reason then, this time I wont and I will be worrying about it. The main thing is to keep focussed and not let it get to me too much, I am in no danger of giving in...not now, I feel as though I am working so hard to get to goal now, this is definitely the hardest part, but I will do it :)

Pleased to announce another 3lb off this week which makes a grand total of 1 stone 3lb, (the most I've ever managed to lose on a sensible diet) and only 6lb to go before my 10% target:dance: I've also dropped into another stone zone now. Funny how 15.13 sounds so much better than 16 something!

Good luck to everyone else.

Ali, the size of your plate is truly amazing, almost the same size as you now! What the doctor says about increasing your calories does seem to make sense so grit your teeth and hang in there for a couple of weeks and hopefully you will soon see a drop in the scales again.:)

No change for me this week, and I haven't been dieting this week either. I took a week off, ate what I wanted, no exercise and loads of alcohol. Plus TOM is due and I am bloated so I think I did ok.

So much for my real effort. Been stressed so been bad. Had a Magnum (why??!) 18 sins that was! Just had a can of Weight Watchers no added sugar low fat low cal rice pud. Not nice and I have just found out is 15 sins on a green or red day. I will have to start taking my sins book with me when I shop.

I will be in the shop all night - after checking everything is veggie friendly (no gelatine) then is sin friendly....

I don't even know why I bought the rice pud. I don't usually have puds. Ah well....
