:hat: HAPPY NEW YEAR'S EVERYONE!!! :hat:

I hope you all had a great night! DH and I stayed in alone, ordered Indian food takeout and watched movies together-it was great since we haven't really been alone for the last two weeks.

I plan on just hanging around the house all day tomorrow and not lifting a finger :D

Today is day one of getting back on the low carb wagon for both me and DH :)

Good "Happy New year to You",
Just a quick note to say I am glad it is 2003.
Why, I don't know, but I might as well be happy about it.

I am ready for work and it looks like the roads are hellish so I will leave somewhat early.

It is back on program full force for me today. I have been messing around and my pants tell me. Haha.

Is anyone having trouble loading threads? It seems to take longer than usual. Oh well.

Love to you all, have a stay on program day, First day of the year, start by being good to yourself,
TAzcat

HAPPY NEW YEAR LADIES!:hat:
Enjoyed a quiet new years eve with the family, we ordered
pizza and celebrated!!

Today I am going back on program. Personally, I am not
going to get weighed until January 11, 2003. I don't want to
bum myself out looking at any carbo gain I may have managed
to put on!!!

The next break I will allow myself is my birthday on March 25,
so I have a nice smooth run between now and then.

I go back to work tomorrow, I wanted to start on Thursday to
get myself use to the "old routine" with an ultra short
week!!!

Nikkic!!
:bravo: You lost weight over the holidays! Congratulations!

I am hoping to join you in the winners circle again early in
2003:lol: Off to start drinking my water and re-reading PP Plan
Book. I need a refresher after the last 10 days or so.

Anne.

A Happy New Year to you too!:hat: Hope you all enjoyed New Years Eve.

Had a quiet New Years Eve. We got a pizza and watched a movie. Then we had SS Pots de Creme for dessert. I thought it was delicious, but DH didn't care for it, he doesn't like Somersweet. I'm disappointed because I really liked it. At least he'll eat SS pancakes, which we had this morning for breakfast.

I am going to start eating OP today. I haven't gotten on the scale in awhile. I didn't go to WW yesterday because we were having on and off freezing rain. I have a few very steep hills I have to drive up, then drive down, and I didn't want to take any chances.

We have to go to Walmart later this morning, but other than that I plan to just veg out.

Take care and have a great New Years Day. Aleka

Hi Everyone,
January 1, 2003. We are all winners, we're all much smaller than we were last year at this time. I am looking forward to next year at this time as well. I hope we are all at our goal weight and working on something like muscle definition or something that we would have never have even dreamed of 5 years ago.
I must confess, I've gained 3 lbs. now. Part of that loss was water and part of the gain is bad eating. Still, didn't gain back the whole 6 lbs. So, a fresh start today.
I have a 5 lb standing rib roast to cook for dinner. I've never made one before. I'm cooking it in the rotisserie and will have some green beans, spinach and potatoes to go with it. I won't eat the potatoes, but will eat the other vegetables. DD is coming over.
I am so glad the holidays are over. Kind of stressful. Here is an article that I ran across while I was on another bb. It is from USA today and is titled, Psychologists now know what makes people happy. I thought it was a good article and makes a lot of solid points about what makes people happy people.

Happy New Year!

I usually post on the other daily thread so I don't kow some of you but I wanted to take the time to invite you to the "Kick your bod back into shape" thread. It doesn't matter what program you follow, just that you join us on this quest to get ourselves back on program! :)

Well, I hope we all had good New Years! DH and I certainly did!

Today is my first day on Atkins Induction and the smell of DH cooking Bacon inthe next room is driving me mad! I can't wait until breakfast is ready!

I promised I would post my stats, so here they are:

311  / 281 fist goal / 185 goal

I know that my goal weight is probably heavier that some of you weigh now, but being over 300 now... I just can't see locking myself into a the 135 pound cage that the weight charts say I should weigh. I think losing 126 pounds will be a big improvement in my life!

Here's a question... Can you consume too little carbs on the Atkins plan? Or is it the less the better?

Thanks for everything thus far!
GinaMarie

Hi Pooky, I'll have to check out the thread. My bod is needing a good kick.

GinaMarie, I think it would take awhile, months to eat too few carbs. The reason I say this, is because when I started, I hardly ate any carbs for a long time. I was Somersizing and did not eat any carb meals. Then switched to Atkins and ate well below 20 carbs a day. I found that I stalled though and when I started to eat more carbs, my weight lose practically doubled. So the answer is yes and no. It is always best to follow the advice of the plan that you are on and eat what they recommend. Atkins starts out low and progressively adds more and this would be the way to go. Love that bacon too. I started at 274 lbs. I know your a little more than that now, but not by much. You will feel so much better soon. Getting sugar out of your system makes a difference.
I'm at 231 today.

GinaMarie

So far today I have conumed 4grams of carbs and I am STARVING! I think I am going through sugar, caffiene, and aspertaime withdrawls. DH and I are getting ready for dinner though, so it's almost the end of day one... I'm gonna work on keeping carbs under 20 and calories at a max of 2000. I hope it works!

Well back OP this week :D tonight we are having chicken Kiev and mixed veggies for dinner. I have had way too much bread over the Christmas holidays :p

Thanks Pooky-I will check out that thread!

Nikki-that was a great article! Funny how these pschycologists are telling us what should be common sense anyway

:chin: less stuff-less debt-less stress + more time with family and friends+valuing the more important things in life= happy!
Geez-who would have thought

GinaMarie-I think you have the right attitude by choosing a realistic goal for yourself and taking things at your own pace -good luck on your plan :D

Mauvaisroux,
I thought it was kind of funny that they said in the 90's there was one study on happiness for every 100 studies on sadness. They will study anything, won't they?
I need to remember this stuff more. I need to forgive easier. I have a bad habit of holding a grudge forever.

GinaMarie, we all have tried things our own way on this thread. I hope you succeed. It takes about a week for the sugar withdrawals to get over with. Then you'll feel amazingly better.

We had some freezing rain overnight, now it's snowing. I guess it's to be messy until Sat. :headache:

I bit the bullet and got on the scale this morning. The damage wasn't bad at all. I did gain about 2 lb., it wasn't quite 2 lb., but close enough. That was on MY scale, what WW's scale says next week will be another matter.

I see that we have some new people posting. MandaPanda, GinaMarie, and Pooky a BIG welcome!! :balloons: :cp:

Pooky, I will check out that thread. Now that the holidays are over it's time to get back to losing weight.

GinaMarie, it does take awhile for the sugar to leave your system, but once it does you will feel so much better. I am not familiar with Atkins, but if you are starving by dinner time, can you eat some meat and cheese, or hard boiled eggs for a snack to get you through the afternoon? If you can have lunch meat, take a slice of meat and put some cheese on it, then roll it up...it's really good. I know you will succeed with this WOE because you have a realistic goal in mind.

mauvaisroux, I also ate way too much bread over the holidays. Yesterday was a low carb day, and I felt soooo much better. Last night we had zucchini/summer squash noodles with a meat sauce and cheese, then for dessert we had the rest of SS pots de creme. How was the chicken Kiev?

nikki, that was a great article, thank you for sharing it. You are right, I guess they'll study anything. Geez, I'm one of the happy people...who woulda thought!!! I was watching an HSN segment on A New You. I bought the perfect portion plates they were selling. I was hemming and hawing about it, but when they said you don't have to weigh or measure anything, I thought I'd give it a try. I have to weigh and measure everything I eat, since I use WW portion sizes, and it gets old after awhile. My Gazelle should be coming today. Gaining 3 lb. isn't bad, they'll be off in no time. I usually don't hold a grudge, but depending on the situation I don't feel the same towards that person that I used to. I will be friendly towards that person when I see them, but will not go out of my way to seek them out.

MandaPanda, I love your name! That's great you have a good outlook for the coming year. A new year is a clean slate.

Take care and have a great day. Aleka

Good Morning All:wave:

I'm back at work today but  is still on vacation until Monday
so I can sort of "ease" my way back into my routine.

I had a good day yesterday diet wise so at least I am starting my
new years off on a good foot.

I had bacon and eggs for breakfast so I am off to a great start
today as well!!

I too am hoping to hit my goal weight this year. Day by day I
am determined to make my goal my reality!!!!

My dad goes back to the doctor next week to see what the plan
of action will be to fight his lung cancer.

I can see this year will be stressful
:stress: but I also know that is part of life for all of us.

GinaMarie, my weight climbed to 309 pounds 10 years ago when
I quit smoking. I went to WW lost 100 pounds and started to
get up again in my weight. By August 2002 I was back in the
270's, my weight before Christmas was down to 230 although
I am sure I've gained a couple of pounds low carbing has really
brought my weight down. Welcome aboard.

Have a great day!
Anne.

Hi everyone,
Aleka, I bought way too many things the last few days from HSN. One big thing, was that inversion table. I've wanted one for so long and with the free shipping, plus a coupon that I found on the bb over there for 20% off, I couldn't pass it up this time. My back has given me fits all year and I figure I've spent over $2000 at the chiropractors trying to relieve the pain. The other day, I was in line at the grocery store, turned my head and bam, pain and unable to turn my head back. I went home and ordered it right then. It is expensive, but not like the chiropractor. I sure hope it helps. There are lots of positive testimonials about it.

Anne, I know your going through a lot and things don't look like they will get any easier. I sure hope that things start to go your way. It seems like I know so many people right now that are having such a hard time. It is the way life is sometimes, but I wish it wasn't happening to you and your family.
We are still neck and neck with our weight loss. I think I gained about 4 lbs. this week. I replaced all that fluid I lost, plus, ate way too many things that were not good for me. Last night, I ate soda crackers and milk. Of all things to blow your diet on, that's not one of the one's I'd normally pick. I really have to get a hold of myself and stop that. I want to be under 200 lbs by spring time. How tall are you? I'm 5'8 or 9 depending on the day.

MandaPanda, welcome and I hope you achieve everything you aspire to.

Well, I'm off. I must find something to eat that is OP. Later, Nikki

Hi Everyone!

Nikkic, I am abit shorter than you. I am 5'6. I know for sure my
weight is up but I have made Jan 11/03 my day to 'Face the music" as it were. I figure by then I will lose my water gain and
only the pounds of fat will show. But really, how much real weight
could we gain in that bit of time? I figure maybe 2 pounds but I
may get a shocker when I step on the scale. As the saying
goes, Christmas comes but once a year......I am determined to
see this through. I will be 46 in March so its getting scary.

Anne, I'll be 46 in June. My skin has suddenly become way too lose lately. I have bought all kinds of miracle creams, but so far, no miracles.:(
On the bright side, I have been using makeup lately. I haven't done that in years. I feel much prettier. Even shaped my eyebrows. :^:

Evening everyone!

Welcome Mandapanda :)

Well one of my New Year's resolutions was to have a more positive attitude at work - HA! by 10:15 am I was cursing my boss' name! :stress: :bomb: Oh well  I'll just have to try again tomorrow.

Sounds like you are in for some lovely weather Aleka!

I was watching the Shopping channel up here on New Year's day, they were calling "New Year, New You" mmm how original  They were selling all sorts of diet programs and exercise videos and equipment - I hade to switch it off before my credit card mysteriously appeared in my hand

The chicken Kiev was pretty good! I used the recipe from the new
SS book. I will definitely make this again as Chicken Kiev is one of DH's favorites and we have been buying them at the grocery store but they are breaded so this is a good alternative.
There is a recipe for coq au vin in the book that I would like to try too.

Nikki-was it hard to do your eyebrows? Mine need shaping but I am afraid to get them done professionaly as the beauticians all seem to have that overplucked/drawn on look -not for me thanks! Mine aren't bad but I think they could look better.

Anne-I hope the doctors can do something for your dad.

Ginamarie-I felt a bit sick the first week I was on SS because of the sugar withdrawl but I got through it and felt better afterwards. I cut out the caffeine slowly though as I find that I get severe headaches if I quit cold turkey.

Evening everyone,
I've had all kinds of problems with msn, but today is the worst. Can't even get there now, they won't let me sign on. I've gone to yahoo, but it's a real pain as I've lost all my addresses and have had to change a my email addresses everywhere.

Mauvaisroux, both of the channels down here are saying that new year, new you stuff. It's getting pretty old.
I used a little tool I found at Walmart to do my eye brows. It kind of shaves them. It says El Perfilador (eyebrow shaper) by Personna. Everything down here is in spanish anymore, like this product is in spanish first and english second. Sometimes, there's also french, it is confusing. It was very easy to do and didn't hurt a bit. I won't go to a beautician either. I did once and they looked pretty bad.

I love chicken kiev. I will have to make it soon. The last time, I rolled it in parmesan with some herbs. I'll have to look up the recipe in the new ss book.

Nikki- I know what you mean-all of the packaging on grocery items are in English and French here. I think the only way you can avoid learning at least some French is through sheer stubborness:lol:. I must say I do enjoy being able to speak more than one language and it has does come in handy at work :)

The chicken Kiev is pretty much how you describe it; chicken breasts, butter, chives all rolled up and pan fried.

Morning All:

Nikkic, I wear alot of cosmetics, I don't look like Tammy Fay
Bakker or anything, but I love to doll myself up. I always took
pains with my appearance even when I was alot heavier. When I
was a teenager I took a course at a modeling agency so I can
apply it without looking overly made up. I love Morgen Shicks
products on shopping channel. Do you know her?

Thats me in a nutshell, Love my jewelery, my cosmetics and my
rock music and my weekends  (and of course my family!!!!)

We are in the middle of a big snowstorm here in Toronto. It
forcasted to be the biggest in four years.

Hope you all have a great day!!!!

We are gearing up for another snow storm. We're in one of the areas where we're supposed to get 12+". I am trying to look at this positively, that this will be great for our well situation come spring because of the drought conditions we had over the summer.

nikki, one thing that is very frustrating is computer problems. My Gazelle arrived yesterday, and I've done 2-10 min. workouts. I LOVE IT:love: The only cosmetics I wear are lipstick and mascara, and only when I go out. I am way..way shorter than you, 5'2". I'm always getting teased, but my come back is always, Good things come in small pkgs. ;) I saw the inversion table last night on HSN. Let me know how it is.

ANNE, sorry your Dad has to go through all that. I wish him good luck this week when he sees the Dr. I will be thinking of you. How much snow are you going to get?

mauvaisroux, hope you had better luck today with your boss than yesterday:lucky: Having a horrible boss does not make for a very pleasant workplace. A New You is what they're calling it on our shopping channels too. I did buy one diet item, but then had to sit on my hands so I wouldn't reach for the phone again!!!:nono: I will look in Suzanne's books for that recipe.

Take care and have a great day. Aleka

Hi everyone,
Anne, Morgan S. is on HSN down here. I have some of her makeup. I have a lot of makeup, from a lot of different companies. My favorite is Smashbox. I don't like their eyeliner, but I love everything else. It looks light and natural. I put on a lot of products, but I try really hard to make it look like I have little on. I don't like that Tammy Faye look either. As I get older, my lashes have become so sparse and short. I may have to go to falsies. Now that would be a TF look. My oldest daughter took a course at a modeling school too. It did teach her how to apply makeup as well as carry herself nicely. They sure weren't much help getting her a job though.

Aleka, we have not had any moisture in over 50 days now. It is snowing everywhere but here I think. The ground is so dry. I am worried about next year. We live close to a big lake/river so we will not have to worry about water supply, but the people like you that have a well or the people downstream will. A few years ago, down in southern Iowa, people were really desperate for water. I felt so sorry for them. The water they had was horrible smelling, the river was like an open sewer.
I'm glad you like your gazelle. My daughter bought one and yesterday she told me she hates it. I don't think she likes to move much anyway. I'll probably buy it when mine wears out. I see Tony is on HSN today. Even though it's $10 cheaper, the s&h is pretty high.
I always thought 5'2" was the perfect height. I have always felt too tall. In Iowa anyway, men are all short. The average man seems to be around 5'7" or 5'8" or less. DH is around that and I'm taller than him. I always wanted to be able to look up, rather than down when I was in my guys arms. Have to stand on steps for that to happen. It would have been nice when we went dancing too. I can get stuff off of high shelves without a ladder. I don't know if that's a good trade off or not.:)

I've been good with my eating the past 2 days. I have to exercise today, but I don't feel like it. I'm getting a cold and my head is pounding. I'll do it anyway for awhile, it will get my blood moving and my limbic system will go in high gear. That should flush some of the germs out. Well, that's my theory anyway. First, I have to walk in there.

Have a good day, Nikki

Hi Everyone:wave:

Aleka, so far we have had 20 cm of snow but that's not the
worst of it. I was getting off the bus tonight on the way
home from work and I took a big flip. I was so scared my
thigh bone was going to break.:( There was tons of black
slush and my right leg went forward and my left leg went
backwards with me falling towards my outstreched left leg.

The bus driver was calling to me are you ok and I slowly got
to my feet. I was so dizzy I thought I was going to pass out.

I took a hot bath in epson salts when my pain pills kicked in.
My back, thigh and even my neck are killing me. I hope I can
get out of bed Saturday. I don't know if my size
helped me or hurt me!

With the way I'm hobbling around you would think I was
85 instead of 45!!

Poor Anne. Wish there was something I could do to make you feel better. Rest and let everyone else do for you for a few days, if you can. See a Dr if your not better soon. Tomorrow, your going to hurt even more. Put cold packs on your sore places for the first 24 to 48 hours, just for 20 -30 min at a time with breaks in between. The cold will reduce swelling and keep the bruising down. After that then use heat. Take it easy, Nikki

aleka
01-04-2003, 07:40 AM
Oh, Anne, how horrible you falling like that. Like nikki advised, use cold compresses where you are hurting along with the heat, also if you can, take some aspirin, or Ibuprofen for your pain. Just take it easy for awhile, sit back and be waited on like a queen:queen: I hope you'll be feeling better really soon.

It started snowing here late yesterday afternoon. So far we have over a foot and it's still snowing like mad. I heard yesterday that it's not supposed to stop until around noon. DH was out plowing our street and driveway at midnight, plus shoveling our stairs and a spot so that our dog could go out and do her duties. Our only other neighbor was out plowing at 4:00am. We went to let the dog out, we couldn't get the door open, our stairs and landing had filled up with snow since DH shovelled it earlier. So he had to shovel them again, then I let her out before it filled in again. DH is out plowing again, trying to keep up with it all.

nikki, the tops of my thighs are stiff this morning. It's amazing what different muscles you use doing the gazelle. I'm sorry your D doesn't like her's. Does your DH use it? If he does, buy your D's so that you can have his & hers equipment:s: Reading about short men in Iowa, it brought back something that happened to me many years ago when I was single. I was at a club with a bunch of friends when this man asked me to dance. When I stood up, I was amazed that I was taller than he was:yikes: I was so surprised because it had never happened to me before. Ya, getting stuff off of high shelves is a good trade off. Hope you're feeling better, and didn't get that cold.

Take care and have a great Sat.
Aleka

Morning everyone,
Anne, hope your doing ok. Like Aleka said, use Ibuprofen or Aspirin rather than tylenol if you can, the reason is tylenol doesn't reduce inflammation or swelling. I guess it depends what is in your pain medication that your already taking. I know that you can take a tylenol based product and then 2 hours later you can take ibuprofen. Kind of staggering them through the day. I take 800 mg of ibuprofen 3 times a day and have for the last few years. It is hard on your liver, but only if you take it for a long time or with alcohol.

Aleka, wow, now that is snow. That is too much snow. Send some over here. We had a few drops of rain this morning and when DH came home from work, he said there was some strange stuff on his window, looked like water. It's getting kind of bad around here.

I got that cold. It's not too bad yet, sore throat and sniffles. I take a lot of antioxidants, I hope that will help me some. Yesterday after I exercised, I really did feel better. I'll have to go do that soon today. Something else strange. I just started to wear makeup again, you know. Well, the skin on my upper eye lids was getting sore and red and I thought I was getting a lot of wrinkles. But then, I noticed it was swollen. So I had to quit wearing makeup and started to put some antibiotic ointment on them. They feel better and the swelling has gone down (and some of the wrinkles). I thought this was funny, I wash my face twice a day and am really careful to remove all my eye makeup. I just got some new makeup, so I guess I'll throw out the old stuff just in case. What a waste, it is so expensive and I like it a lot. Has anyone else have this happen? I hope I can wear it again. I look a lot better with eye make up on than with antibacterial ointment.:)

Here Anne, I can't send you flowers:balloons: and a big:grouphug:

Take care everyone, Nikki

Good Morning Everyone::wave:

Thank you so much for your good wishes. I spent the day
yesterday taking warm empson salt bathes, using the
heating pad, using a hot water bottle {not at the same
time of course} and using Advil. I am finally feeling some
better but quit stiff and sore. By far, that was the worse fall
I have ever taken.

My boss is back on Monday, I imagine that is going to be fun.
(not) The hospital I work for hired a company to send all
staff a survey about how we feel about management etc.
On Friday one of the supervisors told me that the company
had gotten in touch with him and said they were alarmed
and shocked about what our particular office had to say
about our manager  . They are going to be sending
their results to the CEO at St. Mikes. I hope it helps but I
feel sceptical. Without a word of a lie, she should be fired for
the way she treats the staff.

Hoping everyone is enjoying the weekend. I will get weighed
next Saturday to see how much I gained.

Talk to you all later.

Good morning everyone,
Anne, I'm glad your feeling better. I had a boss like that a few times. The hospital I worked for also sent around surveys. What they did with people like that was send them for training. If their preformance didn't improve, they sent them for more training. I hope your hospital has real people running it instead of idiots like mine had. Of course, it was a government job, so you have to add that in too.

I have a really bad cold now. I feel like my throat is swollen all the way around. I can barely talk. I don't care what I eat, just if I can swallow it. Since it's Sunday, I'll have a hard time getting into the Drs office tomorrow, maybe.

Aleka, are you snow bound? We only got a few drops of rain yesterday and it was 50 degrees. Hard to believe. Seems colder out today, the wind is from the north.

Talk to you all later, Nikki

ANNE, I am glad that you are feeling better. Hopefully something can be done about your boss now that more people higher up are aware of the situation. Please let us know what happens.

nikki, sorry you aren't feeling well. If your sore throat is still bad tomorrow, hopefully you'll be able to see the Dr. to make sure it's not serious, like strep. Hope you're feeling better soon.

The storm ended with us getting 20" of snow :yikes: DH plowed just about all day...getting stuck in someone's driveway, and took him 3 hrs. to get his truck out. Luckily he was only a few doors down, so that I could walk down to make sure he was alright. He only came in for quick meals then went out again. He was out plowing again this morning cleaning up the rest of the snow piles. They say we're supposed to get some more snow tonight into tomorrow, but this time we're only in the 1"-2" range. The sun is shining brightly today, haven't seen it since Thurs. or Fri.

Have a great day everyone. Aleka
