I'm going out of town twice in May, for a total of nine days. I pledge to walk a lot during those trips, but I don't want to keep track of my exercise minutes. So, I'm reducing my goal this month to 1200 minutes and counting the time only on the days that I'm home.

May goal: 1200 minutes

My goal for May is to work out every day, 30 minutes of strength/core and 30 minutes of cardio. This will be difficult for part of the month as I'm going out of town for about 5 days. But during that time, I can still do the core exercises in my room and take walks in the evening.

My regimen:
Day 1: Crunches, planks, wall-sits, pushups, dumbbell ; bike.
Day 2: Balance ball upper body workout, planks; elliptical.
Day 3: Balance ball abs workout, planks; elliptical.
Day 4: Balance ball legs workout, dumbbell; bike.
Day 5: Rinse and Repeat!!

I've recently joined a local gym. I generally do the same routine while there - cardio for 30 - 45 mins and strength training for 30 mins. Sometimes I mix it up by throwing in a class.

Once I'm there, I always have a good workout, but making myself go is sometimes a challenge. So, my goal for May will be to go to the gym at least 5 times each week.

1) Continue at the gym 5 days a week - 2 classes M, T, Th, - 1 class - W, F
2) Start C 2 5k - M - W - F - Rain or shine :)
3) track fitness on LS


I hope this is do able.... I am worried about the C25K, Not sure how to dress to run in the rain....:dizzy:

In March I did ~1000 minutes of exercise, and upped that to 1280 in April. My goal for May will be 1350 minutes.

I'm recovering from sciatica, so I'm going to have to start off a bit slowly. I've had ~ six weeks of intense pain and reduced mobility. But since I finally got diagnosed correctly and been going to PT, I've been steadily improving and am looking forward to being more active again. My goal for May is to complete 500 minutes(15-20 min, 6x a week) of intentional exercise: WATP, yoga, pilates w/resistance bands, swimming, recumbent biking, or walking. I know 500 min doesn't sound like much, but I really want to start by focusing on getting back to daily exercise without re-injury. Good luck to all in achieving their goals and Happy May Day:wave:

My challenge is actually the "Insanity" 60 day challenge which should take me into the beginning of July! The dvd set is on its way and while I await them I'm doing the "Insanity: Fast and Furious" dvd (which is about 20 minutes) six days a week. The challenge will be to stick with the regimen - and I'm stoked! :carrot:

I'm going on a week's vacation later this month, so I don't think I'll be able to do my regular 2000 minutes a month. However, the cruise ship and hotel do have fitness centers. So I'll try and do as much as I can while on vacation.

I'm shooting for 1500 minutes of exercise this month.

The last time I joined an exercise challenge on this site, it was in December. I started to off great and lost about 20 pounds, but then had leave on a Military Mission and ended up gaining all the weight back. :( I'm up back now, and up for the May Challenge! :yes: I actually started last week on my own personal challenge, and I'd like to continue that here. My challenge is the Insanity Workout Today actually marks the beginning of week 2 (Day 8 of 60) for me. I hope to be able to post my workouts and progress.

Good luck to everyone this month!

After a month of really letting the exercise slip, I need to get back on it this month. My main aim is to log what I do on here, I'm still getting to grips with life since I've moved half way around the world and stopped working etc etc, so just logging is enough this month.

I'd like to start going to the local pool and swimming, set up a home gym routine, and maybe get back into jogging and join a class or two at the gym/pool.

So far so good. Today was the first day of my new exercise regime and I manged to get through it, though the last fifteen minutes were not the best. I managed a solid 30 minutes of weight/core training and 30 minutes of cardio on the exercise bike.

Tomorrow, I intend essentially the same (elliptical as opposed to the bike), but I also hope to finally make it to a kick-boxing class. I'm a little intimidated by the thought.

Happy May everyone!!!

Good morning!

I'm pretty proud of getting to the gym this morning. It's a gray, rainy day and DD decided to roll over and go back to sleep, rather than going to gym with me as planned. I thought about going right to work, but instead went to the gym by myself. and kind of liked it!

To be fair, there was a LOT of strength training that was part of it (sit-ups, crunches, jump-rope (I remembered that being easy in grade school...), push-ups, squats, etc.). But even so, the kick-boxing itself was pretty intense. I'm doing a class (got a Groupon for 7 of these).

5/4 - Slacked big time. Dissapointed even more bcuz I got Jack food. BLAH!!

My husband became very sick this weekend, and has been in the hospital since early Monday morning, so I've not had a chance to exercise at all until today! He is doing MUCH better and should be going home tomorrow, so I hope to get back on my regular exercise schedule soon. I have a lot of catching up to do if I want to make my goal this month!

rmc9142: sorry about the plantar fasciitis. I've struggled with that. In the long term, it turned out exercise was the best thing for it and has kept it from coming back. In the short and medium term, it hurt!

DH, DD, and DS all have to work today and felt bad that they won't spend Mother's Day with me. (How do I nicely tell them how much I'm looking forward to a day to myself!) But the kids don't work until this afternoon, so they asked if I wanted to go to an early brunch. A buffet of unlimited foods that I love seems like a disaster waiting to happen at this point. Instead, the three of us are going to the gym together.

If you'd suggested that to me last Mother's Day, I would have had a good laugh. :rofl:

Ferumbras: I think it would be harder if I were off-track with food. But with exercise... everytime I get back from the gym and feel so great, it just reinforces that desire to go and go often! And I hate to fail when I've set a goal. :) I may not make it this month, but I'll still try!

Are you staying at a hotel while you're out of town this week? I know it's hard either way when traveling, but you'll be tickled pink with yourself if you can squeeze in even 30 minutes on a few days. It somehow feels even more satisfying when it's hard to make it happen.

I think I'm going to modify my 30DS goal. I haven't done it yet this month, but today is a new day and so the goal is to do it twice a week from here on in. I plan to start an official strength program in a couple weeks, so that should help me get back into the swing of things.
I've spent too long on the sidelines here. I know it's time to commit to whatever it takes to be the healthiest woman I can be.

Gale, 10 mins on the eliptical sounds like a lot to me! I don't know why, but I just can't use that machine. I go for about 5 mins before my feet start hurting. So, for now, I'm sticking with the treadmill. Maybe once I lose some of this weight I'll be able to handle the eliptical.

rmc, I am amazed at you on the treadmill! No joke, 10 minutes on a treadmill gives me crippling shin splints. Every time. I guess that's why there's different machines, everyone is a little different! :)

May 1st-7th
Worked out 5 out of 6 days (started a day late). I managed at least 60 minutes each day.

May 8th-14th
NB: This week won't go so well. I leave town on the 11th and return on the 16th. Doubt I'll be getting in much exercise.

5/8: 20 minutes strength training (stopped early as my elbow started to hurt ); 25 minutes on the elliptical, starting up C25k (peer-pressure and all. We'll see how this goes); 45 minute walk with DH.
5/9: 60 minutes group step class.
5/10: 60 minutes kick-boxing class. This will be my last workout for a week, as I'm going out of town and won't have access to a gym or really any time, plus I'm sharing a room. So I guess I really need to focus on eating right so I at least maintain.
5/11: Nothing, unless you count running from one end of the terminal to the other to catch my connecting flight. :p

Okay I'm off to the gym in a bit. Friday tomarrow I am getting tattooed which will set me back gym wise for 2 or three days hopefully only two. for the past month and a half i have been getting a back piece done on my back. I still need one or two sessions. i cant wait till its over so i dont have to ruin my excercise routine. ive been doing pretty well keeping up with it. and now if i dont work out every other day i feel pretty lousy. maybe ill walk a bunch the first few days of pain.....

For this month I would like to get in five workouts each week. I usally workout for at least a hour but there are times when I dont. I do a variety of things from weights to classes at my gym. My other goal is to get a workout in on the weekend no matter what it is! I always slack on weekend

@rmc9142: Will do. At present, I'm mostly doing it on the elliptical, as I'm not a big fan of running outside. I may also try to use the treadmills at the gym for it, if I can figure out the right setting to do that kind of interval work.

Missed a few walks with the dogs due to weather but made up the time by having a few extra long ones through the week :) Back in a good routine I think it's now time to start tracking my food again I think I'm back to under eating :(
Fer - Booty Ballet is okay still have one more cardio dance dvd to try I think I'll like it, the other cardio dance was fantastic. I still burn more calories with biggest loser but it's more conditioning/strength where as booty ballet is pretty much cardio. It's not a bad addition though.

mmm not really I usually do it in our livingroom or my office I don't have that much space either. You basically need enough room to kick your leg out in front/back and sides. There isn't any floor routines in the one I have but there is balance/phyiso/stability ball in one that you need about the same space.

I went at a higher intensity than I have before and burned over 750 calories in 65 minutes.

Wow! I am seriously impressed. I've been gradually working on upping my routine. I always do 30 mins cardio on the treadmill - started out walking sloooowly and have been amping it up a bit each day, even adding some running to the mix. I like the idea of C25K, but I have had issues with a foot injury in the past, so I'm a bit paranoid about pushing too far too fast. (The idea of a potential injury preventing me from working out is horrible - certainly a 180 degree change in my attitude about exercise! :lol:)

My gym is about 1.5 miles from my house, so whenever possible, I grab a ride there, workout, then walk home. (Heaven forbid I walk there too!) I think that as a mini-goal reward, I might buy myself a bike and ride there and back.

I only managed to get in 25 minutes of dedicated exercise while my family was in town. :( It sounds like an excuse, but we were truly running around all day when they were here. At least I got a ton of walking in though, as we spent all day Friday and Saturday touring all over DC, and I made my one workout count - I actually did some running on the treadmill!

No way at this point that I'll make my goal this month, but I still plan to get in a good amount of exercise over the next 9 days. I downloaded some new music today and can't wait to listen to it at the gym tomorrow. :)

@chickadee32: I won't be making my goal this month either, but I intend to walk a lot on my trip to NYC later this week and still finish strong and ready to move in June! I love how setting these monthly goals works for me. Most months I manage to meet it. The few months that I don't, I still somehow end up motivated at the end of the month to set up for a better month the next month.

rmc: What kinds of workouts do you do at the gym? I always do 30 - 45 min of cardio, mostly on the treadmill, sometimes mixing it up with the bike. I started out walking verrrrrry slowly, but have steadily increased my pace. I'm starting to add in intervals of jogging. Not quite c2K, but along those lines.

I add in strength training 4x or 5x a week, working both upper and lower body on the nautilus machines (for now). I've read that free weights give you a better workout and I plan to add them once I gain more strength. Don't think I'm there yet. I walk a fine line between wanting to really push myself and wanting to not hurt this old, chubby body that is just exercising again after a very long time. :rofl:

I find that my current workout has really helped in a lot of ways already, but I need to do more for my abs (I know they're somewhere under all the fat!) and my core. Suggestions anyone?

All great ideas, thanks Ferumbras! I guess my problem is not so much knowing what to do, but actually doing it. The way my gym is laid out, there's really not a lot of convenient space for doing "floor" work and once I'm home from the gym, I sometimes don't even have enough steam left to climb the stairs to shower, much less do another set of exercises! I'm going to try to motivate myself to do the ab work either before I go to the gym or maybe first thing in AM or in the evening. I'll have to see if making it a separate workout will make me more or less likely to do it. :D

I've been thinking of my June exercise goal and, now that I seem to have going to the gym under my belt (for now at least), I think I'm going to focus on pushing myself when I get there. Maybe #calories burned or amount of time doing cardio or # of sets . . . not sure yet. I want to set realistic goals, but sometimes I find myself wussing out. "Anything is better than nothing" and "Whatever I do, it's more than I used to do" are two favorite excuses when I'm ambivalent about my workout. :D

Anyone else changing things up for June?

Great to see everyone still making progress! I walked a lot in New York, many hours a day for several days. It was great!

I set up the June Exercise Challenge (http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/chicks-up-challenge/234464-june-exercise-challenge.html) thread for people like rmc9142 who are thinking ahead. I think I'm going to add a couple of things to my minutes goal -- a goal to do two or more forms of exercise in a day at least 10 times and a goal to walk outside for 30 minutes or more at least 10 times.

Who met their May goals? I will post a summary.
