Default I got a job! But it's at McDonald's

The only place I could find a summer job at is the dreaded McDonald's. And they give you free meals and discounts. First of all as a college student I dont have great cooking skills and Im always on the go so since I have been counting calories and losing weight, I have incorpoarted McDonald's into my diet only the healhy foods though I have been avoided the fries and calorie dense foods some healthy options at mcdonald's are: fruit n walnut salad, egg mcmuffin without bacon, the grilled chicken snack wrap, side salads and grilled chicken salads. I figure if I stick to this list of foods while I am working I will be fine, but I am afraid of the tempation of the fried foods. Im going to see how it goes and factor in what I eat at mcdonalds into my daily calories. See if I still lose weight and if it becomes a problem I dont really know what I will do because I do need a summer job. I applied to 4 other places(non fast food) and noone else called me back.

Chances are good that as soon as you see the food made you won't want it. Check out a documentary called "fat head" and I think it will giveyou survival strategies.

Try the yogart parfait or the apple dippers. Those are good for you and yummy!

ITA with uscarchie...I used to work at Burger King as a high school and it put me off of many things they make...in fact I went there today on the fly and all I could even fathom ordering was a garden salad with chicken tendercrisp

Did you call them to follow up? My summer/college job trick was to turn in applications in person and ask for the manager, just to introduce myself. If they weren't there or were busy, I would get their name and call them later. I can't recall a retail job I applied for and didn't get when doing this. Good luck!!

juliana: Thanks! I do usually follow up like you said because it does help to get a job but I have class and work every day during the day so I called one of the stores to see what time a hiring manager would be in and she told me they weren't looking for anyone so I guess I should have just gone in instead. Thanks for the advice though!

I was going to post the same as uscarchie, to watch the movie, 'Fat Head'.
Everyone should take the time to watch it. It should be mandatory for all.

You may do just fine. I worked at Pizza Hut when I was in college and losing weight and I ate personal pan pizzas with out putting oil in the pan or meat or cheese on them. That was before I knew about carbs.

Hey I just wanted to ask did you look at any summer camp/recreation jobs? I have been doing them every summer for the past few years and they are good money for the summer and you stay active pretty much all day...IDK where you are, but the city or county you live in probably has a recreation department looking for college kids during the summer, usually pays anywhere between $13-$20 an hour depending on where you live, check it out

I thought their ice cream was low fat or low call too, so you could indulge in a cone once a week as well. I could live off their healthy menu. I love the salads!!

I was skinnier when I worked in fast food, enough though I ate it. I was standing and moving all day. Now I sit at a desk.

I think you will be fine!

I was going to say what sotypical just did. You work sooooooo hard at McDonald's that you will likely lose weight if you have some discipline about the food. You will move around a LOT. When I worked in the kitchen at a restaurant it completely exhausted me; it's really hard work!

I had my orientation today and now there is a list of meals that employees can get for free. We have to choose an item on the list and cannot choose what we want. Guess what? Salad was not one of the items on the list. I am very upset! I dont know what to do
