Hi, hope you don't mind that I started a new thread. I agreed with nikki in thinking the old thread was getting too long.

I was in SS site this morning, and in the recipe section, called Breakfast Up an At Em, there is a recipe for cinnamon rolls, which sound YUMMY:T

Hope everyone has a good Monday. :balloons:

Morning Everyone,
Aleka, I've made whipped skim milk, I had a stick blender years ago that would do that. It is better looking than tasting, but if you add vanilla, splenda and maybe some spices it helps a lot. If your watching your fat and or calories, it really saves a lot over cream. I'll have to go check out the cinnamon roll recipe. I miss things like that.
Yesterday it was in the low 60's. I cleaned out the car. Didn't even need a jacket, just shortsleeves. Wow, what a job, it really was dirty. Today will not be so nice, it's gray and the wind is blowing in from the north.
Anne, how's the vacation going? Have you started on the Gazelle? I'm starting back at 20 min and going to work back up to the 30 min. later.
Bye for now, Nikki

Hi Ladies!

I was missing in action this weekend. It is good to see everyone back here again.

Nikkic, that Gazelle workout sounds great. I need to get to my car before Christmas... it is a real pit right now.

Aleka, let us know how the cinnamon rolls taste! I saw some Cinnabon candy this weekend. I almost bought it for my Christmas baskets, but then decided I'd never leave it alone!

Happy Holidays All!

I DO NOT want to jinx myself, but I am doing okay. I had started the Atkins diet, went off, then went back on again! Since Thursday of last week, I have been "going strong". I pray often for strength not to go back to my old way of eating! I feel SO much better now. I am still fighting with wanting sweets, but the cravings are getting MUCH better.

I am pleased to say since Thursday I have lost 6 pounds! :) That is giving the incentive to keep going strong!

I still feel I am eating "too much". Does anyone else feel like that? I stay below 20 carbs (barely some days, I only go 1-2 over for salad). I am just glad I feel better.

Today I have had:
4 burger patties with cheese
1 stick of cheese as a snack
handful of pork rinds
slice of lunch meat ham
12 0z of pork chops will be for dinner.

Yesterday I had
Sugar free Jello/ with real whip cream
3 hard boiled eggs whites
4 0z turkey sausage
12 0z pork chops

The key for me to staying on this new WOE is dexatrim and water. It really helps the craving for cookies etc etc. And Water tricks me stomach into being full so I don't eat EVERYTHING in sight. What i have realized is that after 3 days, I am eating less than I did on the first day.

I checked to see if I am in Ketosis, and the sticks still have not changed color! Anyone know how long it takes to go into ketosis? Usually I go into it after a day or 2, but for some reason, it is taking longer this time :(

Hi Chicks, I would love some input on the gazelle thing? I want it but don't want to put the money out for it if it is going to be like the rest of the stuff in the rec. room.
Thanks tazcat

Hi,
Tazcat, I responded on the last thread about the gazelle, but maybe you didn't see it. If you did, please excuse the repetition here. I have a gazelle and I really like it. I use it almost everyday. I have severe arthritis in my ankle and knees and also, back problems with my spine. There is no impact on your joints. Lots of times, I can barely walk to it, but when I get on it, I feel like I'm flying. It also helps me to losen up and walk better by the time I'm done. It is well made and folds easily for storage. I have a room full of exercise equipment and if I could keep only one thing, this would be it.

Welcome, Chanelchristian. I use to do Atkins. It does look like a lot of food, but Dr. Atkins says meat is a free food. Looks like it's working for you since your down 6 lbs in one week. Congratulations on the weight loss!
The cravings for the sweets will pass before you know it. I tried to eat a candybar once and was sick for over a day. That really cured me of wanting sugar. I would think you should be in ketosis by now, but it should happen by tomorrow. Don't worry about it anyway, your doing great. I do have one question, are you eating any vegetables? You have just listed meat and dairy.

Hi Su, glad to hear from you.

Hi Ladies! If you are reading the daily thread, then you already know about the CT scan for today. The doctor failed to tell me anything about drinking barium shakes before the scan, so I have to go back next Monday. I did get the ultrasounds done today, so at least something is over with.

I have a confession to make. I didn't put my Gazelle together. To be perfectly honest. I am HORRIBLE at assembly. I can do things like drive nails in the wall, but if I get a package of directions, just count me out. I need to work on that. Everytime Rob and I talk about building it, it is too late at night. We are shooting for tomorrow morning since I don't have to be at work until 10ish. I really want this thing built, and I really need to get on it! I feel like crap. This is one of those times in my life where I crave exercise. I must be in bad shape to be craving it!

I haven't read the last thread, but I will catch up in a few minutes. I should be 'back' now. My big family holiday entertaining is over. Had all my family at my place Saturday night, and this was my first time doing that. I was a wreck all week getting prepared, then all this other stuff was going on, so it was full! Glad to be back, I miss you all and will post again after I read all of this.

Oh yeah, with a show of hands, who has tried Sugar Busters?
Also, who has had good success on SS? Trying to find something the whole family (especially son) can eat.

Thank you Nickic, looks like I'll be getting one of those. I had a bad dream last night about wild animals and me walking. Looks like I won't be walking after dark for awile.

Jennifer, barium shakes, yummmmm.:)
Have a large day,

Hi Everyone:

Dad had his biopsy done yesterday. It is a formality only which
much be done before he can be booked for radiation. It was
quite an ordeal. He had to lie on his stomach completely still
for 45 minutes. This was very, very painful for him because he
has an abdominal hernia and mangled ribs from previous
lung cancer surgeries. They took several x-rays after the
procedure at about 30 minute intervals to make sure his lung
did not colapse and there was no bleeding. He was a wreck as
all of us were. I came home and ate a plate of cookies I had
made and you know I don't do things like that!!:(
Now I feel lousey and mad at myself. I guess the stress got to me
.:stress: I will have to be careful for the rest of the week so I
don't go up in weight!!
Anne.

Hi eveyone,
Anne, what a stressful day for you and your family, your poor dad must have been so miserable. Don't worry about the cookies. We all do this sometimes. Emotional eating is one reason some of us (or most) gained weight. When you eat something like that, don't feel guilty or berate yourself. It takes too much time and effort and you get nothing out of it, but lower self esteem. This can then lead to more emotional eating. Just notice that you did it, learn from it (such as "I feel really bad physically") and pick up where you were with your woe. Like you said, you don't do stuff like this. Be proud that you can get back on track and proud of your accomplishments so far with your weight loss. You've done great.

Tazcat, if you get a gazelle, I hope you like it. I know it's safer than walking in some places and cooler in the summer (with ac) and warmer in the winter.

Jennifer, I'm so glad your back. I don't read the daily very often, but I'll go see what you've written there too. Wish I could come put the gazelle together for you, it really isn't hard. I've put together that cheapo, pressed wood furniture and that's hard. This has clear instuctions and all the pieces are in a nice holder and identified. I have never been able to build anything with DH, we argue so heatedly over nothing, like the size of a screw or something stupid like that. I have'nt tried SB, but did try SS. I thought I had fairly good results. It is not as rapid, but a more healthy woe than some diets. I have some problems with control, so I had to move on. I think SS would be great for a family and very easy for kids. I love a lot of the recipes in the new book.

Well, got to go and exercise. I've used the Total Gym for 2 days now and my whole body has sore muscles. I'm kind of surprised, I exercise a lot. And, I'm starting on the lowest level with the fewest repititions. I didn't even think I was getting much of a workout the first time. It's a good feeling, I needed to push myself.

aleka
12-17-2002, 11:21 AM
I lost 2 lb. last week. I was very pleasantly surprised as I've had hardly any losses for the past couple of weeks.

ANNE, I am so sorry that your Dad had to go through all that. Please don't beat yourself up over those cookies. As nikki said, we have all been there. A few cookies isn't bad.

Jennifer, glad to see you back! Those barium shakes are great...aren't they?:p I've had them before when I've had an upper GI. I am HORRIBLE at assemblying too. I just can't read directions. If someone read them to me, and I could put it together as I go, I would be fine. I have tried following SB, but I found it kind of confusing, so I just follow the guidelines, eliminating sugar, white flour, etc. I do think SB has a book geared to kids, but I'm not sure. I do have the SB book, and the concept is like SSzing, except you can have a wider range of veggies, but there are some fruits you cannot have that you can on SSzing. I think they both can be family and kid friendly.

nikki, you're probably exercising different muscle groups when you use the Total Gym. That's why you're muscles are sore. Glad you enjoy it. I'm still waiting for the Freestyle Elite Gazelle. DH has been checking E Bay to see what they have. Thought the gazelle would be good for both DH & I since we have knee problems.

chanelchristian, welcometo our little corner of the board. :balloons: Congratulations on your weight loss. :high: I have read somewhere that each time you go off a low carb plan, then go back on it, it takes longer to see results. It has something to do with your body being used to low carbing. That could be why you're taking longer to get into ketosis.

Hi Su, & mavaisroux  Hope everything is well with you.

Have a good day. Aleka

I'm back again!

I hope everyone is having a good Tuesday!

ChanelChristian, Welcome! (I live in Georgia too! :) ) I'm a 2nd time (at least) low carber. It does take a while to get back into ketosis. This time I am not trying for ketosis. I am doing almost no starch/ sugars and doing LOTS of low-carb veges with my meals. It seems to be working!

Anne- I am so sorry about what your dad is going through. I just wish there was someway around all the 'nonsense'. I hope things go better from now on out. Hugs

Aleka- that's an excellent 2 lb loss! You are living right!

Nikki- the total gym sounds great. I've often looked at them, but don't want to buy one more thing just yet. Maybe I'm burning calories just reading about it all!

Taz- I have to worry about when and where to walk too. Its hard to enjoy yourself sometimes. Aren't bad dreams just so hard to shake?

Jennifer, I'm just jealous you are over the holiday parties! I'm gearing up, and I just don't have anything right yet! Bleah on barium!! Make sure you take enough laxatives. I used to do a barium swallow study technique with swallowing patients.... always a problem getting everything moving again. Sooo much fun!

Hi all,

I started my SSing this past weekend and i'm going strong! However today at work I got to sick I almost fainted and I realized I didn't have enough to eat. There's pretty much just cookies and junk here at the job, so i pick the healthiest out of the bunch, I ate a nuts package. (tiny package w/ raisins, nuts and seeds.) I feel so bad about it but I know I could've had worst!

Aleka- congrats on your weightloss! I also joted down this past weekend the receipe for the cinnamon rolls, can't wait to make them!

Anne- i'm sorry you had such a terrible time, don't feel bad about the cookies. What's done is done, just keeping going w/ your diet. Slips happen.

What gazelle are you all referring to? Is it the one for the informerical w/ Tony Little? How much does it go for? I have a friend that doesn't workout much and is a little heavy, would this be good for someone who was avoiding moving too much, due to easy injuries? Does this work up a good sweat?

chanelchristia- WTG! WOOHOO!

Meowna, Romans 8:28

SuGeorgia, I must tell you we live in the safest part of the world but the animals around scare me, I have a dog that weighs at least 120 # and I know that he wouldn't let anything hurt me, but this is a great excuse not to get out to walk, But I soon have to get moving and Bernie, darling dog, loves to walk. Well all for now, love Tazcat.

P.S. please love yourself today.

Evening everyone,
Wow, what a day. The weather was bad last night, cold and windy. Rainy too. But the wind changed and started to blow up from the south and by this morning, it was sunny and warm like spring outside, in the 60's.
I got my very 1st size 1x in, I don't know how long, today. It fits and I can't believe how much a difference it is compared to a 3x. I was holding them up to show DH and it was like a before and after on a commercial. Can't wait to do that with a size 16 compared to the 1x and eventually a 12 compared to a 16. I think I'll always keep one pair of size 26 pants. They were tight once. I never want to forget.
Kathy, the gazelle is the same one tony little sells. Yes, it would be good for someone that is easily injured. If you can shuffle, you can do it. You can buy them on line from their website, Walmart.com or sometimes HSN. Prices vary smaller one is $99 for under 250 lbs. $199 for up to 300.

crisis with my dad. I am back on program business as usual!;)

Our weather today is pretty mild. We had a few days that
were stinkers. Freezing, windy, icy.
I should be thinking about the way we were all suffering in the
heat last summer, I bet we all feel a bit better this year with
the weight losses we have all had!! Has to help!

Hi Su, Hi Taz, Hi Mavaisroux, Hope everything is going great

I will have more weight back off. I was almost was under 160! My plan is not to get on the scales>>>>>.until then.

I went into the Walmart site and ordered TL's Gazelle. I compared the prices of the Freestyle Elite, and the Freestyle, and the Elite was way..way..way out of my price range. I went into HSN to see what their price + s/h was compared to Walmarts, but the gazelle was no longer there, so they must've sold out. Hopefully I should get it sometime between Dec. 27th and Jan. 6th. Can't wait to get it!

Had a Dr. appt. the other day. She was so pleased with my weight loss. It was the topic of conversation at my appt. When the nurse weighed me, she thought she had done something wrong when she looked at my present weight and former weight  She & I are very friendly, and she gave me a look, and asked very LOUDLY "Are you dieting?"

nikki, you lost 2 sizes WAY TO GO!!!!!:bravo: :cloud9: At one of my WW meetings, the leader was talking about "fat" clothes. She suggested to get rid of all your fat clothes except for 1 item, and use that item of clothing as a reminder of where you were, and don't want to be again. You are doing so well!!! {{{HUGS}}}

tazcat, a lot of people I know are stopping their diets the holiday season. I know that not very many people are losing weight when I go to my WW meetings. Hang in there!:strong:

Jennifer, I never realized that about barium either, and I've had it in both ends.:p

ANNE, glad that you're back to business as usual. Hope that your Dad is doing ok. We're supposed to be getting some mild weather starting today, I think. We are supposed to get a storm tomorrow, but it's to be all rain.

Kathy, isn't the food on SS great!! You really have to watch yourself when you're SSzing to make sure you get enough to eat, as you're never hungry and sometimes forget to eat.

mauvaisroux, haven't heard from you in awhile. I hope everything is ok with you, or are you just busy with all the holiday festivities?

Hi Su, & chanelchristian  hope you're not too busy this holiday season.

Enjoy the day! Aleka

Hi everyone,
This season is so busy and so stressful. Everyone is trying to do so much and get everything done. It's important to remember to try to enjoy yourself and if your over doing it, to cut back on things. I decided on Christmas Day to just have SS lasagna for lunch with DH's son and girl friend over rather that a big meal with all the family. My girls are coming over on Christmas Eve for a finger food and presents evening. I love the big turkey dinner, but it's just too much work and when all the family comes, well, that is always a stressful event.

Aleka, I went to the Dr. yesterday and had the same thing happen. How funny! She said I was down 20 lbs since the last visit. I was almost afraid she was going to say I was losing too fast. But, she's really over weight too, so she wanted to know what I was eating. After I told her, she just said, wow.

It is really hard to stay on track this time of year. For me, it will be easy, I don't have to go to work everyday and try to not eat all the food. Plus, this weight loss is a real incentive to not cheat.

Take care everyone, Nikki

Hi all,

I'm having a great time SSing, I had forgotten how good it feels to eat healthy and not count calories, points or starches. Just be legal. This is such a nice change! I can tell the weightloss is going to be slow but good things come to those who wait!lol

Nikki- congrats on the recent 20# gone! And also for loosing all those sizes! I think it is a good idea that you keep at least one item of clothing for retrospect.

Aleka- funny you should mention it. I am forgetting to eat now and then. I just love not having to obsess over food like I was.

Have a great day!

Good Morning Ladies:

Up early, my 16 teen year old son and I are going down to the
mall early today to finish up some last minute items. My one 12
year old and sixteen year old still get quite excited. My 18 and
22 really don't.
I figure during the holidays I will allow myself a few treats as long as I don't go on a major binge. In a way I see eating some goodies as a bit of discipline for myself. :) I know my PP books certainly encourage eating birthday cake on birthdays and a few treats during Christmas so thats the way I will go.

We have all done so well on this board!!! I have dropped 45 pounds since August and hopefully I will hit goal in 2003. You
guys have done just amazing too!!!

ANNE, WOW!!!! 45 lb. is a lot of weight! Congratulations. :bravo: :high: In the PP book, they give food choices for 3 different types of dieters. Which one are you following? That's a good attitude you have about eating during the holidays. I know how hard it is to be good.

Kathy, glad you are enjoying SSzing. Will you be buying any of her products? I will be making her Pots de Creme for dessert Christmas Eve. I've had her salad dressings, and they are good too. Tomorrow morning for breakfast, DH & I will try one of her pancake mixes. I'll let you know how it is.

nikki, congratulations on the weight loss!!! 20 lb. is fantastic.:cb: :hat: Let me know how the SS lasagna is. I'm dying to try it sometime.

Hi everyone,
I wrote a message yesterday, but my server is just messing up all the time, so I was disconnected. I have dial up and it is a real pain.
I've gained and lost the same pound all week. I'm not really eating very differently. I did have 3 whiskey's with diet 7-ups a couple of days ago. In between each, I drank 20 oz of water. Something I would have never done in my life before. Well, alcohol is just easily converted into fat, so that was part of my problem this week. Part of it is water retention, my rings are getting tighter.
Your right, Anne, we've all done really well. I know you guys have been a big help to me. I love your encouragement and your support. I'm very thankful for finding you.
Aleka, I'll have to look at the walmart site and see which gazelle you got. I have the extreme, which doesn't have those little shock absorber things to increase the resistance. I can't imagine using something like that for a long time anyway. I just like to go fast and try to go longer each time.
Jennifer, did you get yours together yet? Don't make me come over there now young lady.
Kathy, hope your still doing well. I love the food on ss'ing.
I still need to write out a menu for Christmas Eve. I have some ideas, but I must get in gear with this, shop and start cooking soon or we'll be eating oatmeal.
bye for now, Nikki

Hi chicks, today I am on vacation until Dec.27th. I am going to make short bread cookies for the family as they love them. I have the house to myself as DH is working 4-12 the next three days. I am letting him take the car so I won't have to answer any fire calls,(I am a fire fighter) go anywhere or go to anybody's house. The truck will be home, but I can't drive a standard so I have the house, the computer, a good book and time to do anything I want. yesssssss. almost the best gift of the year!
Reading about you chicks that is SSing I really want to look into this. And good for all of us that is staying with anything this time of the year, remember to drink water, water, water.
Well all for now, I must go get some water in a nice wine glass.

Merry Merry, what ever you believe,

When you get to the sporting goods page, and see the photo of the gazelle, click onto that. When the larger photo comes up, look to the upper right corner. You'll see another photo w/TL's "As seen on TV gazelle". Click onto that, and that's the one I got. I don't know if that's the extreme or not.

Evening everyone,
Aleka, I looked awhile back, but I'm not sure which one now that you got. Anyway, if it doesn't come with a video, I see they sell them seperately and I really like to do the gazelle with the video. It keeps me motivated and he is a positive influence on me. I need that. It seems like there is way too many negatives in the world.

Tazcat, I'm sure your enjoying your time off. Have another glass of water for me.:)

I'm making a ss super tonight. A little variety never hurts. Baked orange roughy in butter sauce, spinach parmesan frittata, green beans. I don't usually get too fancy, but decided to for go the steamed spinach for a change.

nikki, the gazelle I bought is the one around $200.00, and I do believe there is a video that does come with it. I am really anxious to get it to try it out since you really like it so much. It helps when you see that "real" people like it, and not the ones they have on the infomercial. I made SSzed Stuffed Peppers the other night. I used chopped cauliflower for the rice, put some shredded pepper cheese, and no sugar added pasta sauce along with the hamburg. It really turned out fabulous. Have you got your Christmas Eve menu planned yet?

tazcat, enjoy your time alone. :dancer: Did you get your cookies made?

Aleka, that's the one I have. I'm doing between 25 and 30 min everyday on it. Everyone is different, but it's something I find easy to do, plus it's a good workout. I look out the back window across the field and envision myself walking to the woods and back. (It's about 5 acres away).

I'm just having vegetables and dip, cheese and crackers, shrimp and cocktail sauce, summer sausage, deviled eggs, and a ss cheesecake on Christmas eve. If I can get over to Pella, I'll get some Dutch pastries. I won't eat them, but the girls love them. On Christmas Day, I switched to chili. DH's son says he has to work that evening and isn't sure when he will get here. I figure that can keep in the crockpot all day and if he doesn't eat, it's no big deal. We're going to my DD's for supper that night.

I made stuffed peppers last week. I got a good deal on different colored peppers, then didn't know what to do with all of them, so I stuffed them. It is good for a change. I had a lot of extra "stuffing" so I froze it and will make some stuffed cabbage with it later.

I will really be glad when this is all over with. Someday, I want to go to the Carribean for Christmas. Just lay on a beach some place warm where there is nothing to do and no one to have to do something for. Don't know if that will ever happen, but I've always thought it would be great.

nikki, did you get your gazelle from HSN? If so, did you get 3 videos with your's? The one I got from Walmart comes with only 1 video. But, I went into TL's website and they have the set of 3 videos for sale.

I will not be around tomorrow, so I just wanted to pop in to wish everyone A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

Have a great day! Aleka

Hi all,

How was everyone's weekend? Mines was great! Well, anytime I 'm not at work is great!lol

Aleka- was that you who answered my question on SS board about mock mash potato? If so thanks! I'm just going to chuck the receipe cause it still so soupy. I have bought a few desserts from SS already. I love the pots de creame and the creme brulee. I plan to kee these around, I have a sweet tooth like you wouldn't believe! I may try her cheesecake this week. Pls, let me know how you like her pancakes and waffle mix. Have a great holiday!

Tazcat- enjoy precious vacation time, it flys by so quickly!lol I'm enjoying SSing, I haven't really lost any weight yet but then again it's only my 2nd week. I'll be patient, I just love eating like this.

Nikki- what are your ideas for X-mas dinner? I could use some.

Anne- congrats on the weightloss!

Hi there everyone!!
Hope you are all surving the hustle and bustle of
this busy Christmas season.

I have been baking up a storm:chef: :cookie:

The family is all pretty excited, we are having a light snow fall
here in Toronto and with the Christmas Carols playing in the
background it is really quite lovely.

We will be having a traditional Christmas dinner Turkey, stuffing
and all the trimmings!!:T I am really looking forward to this!!!

I love saving a couple of weeks of my vacation for this time of
year it is my absolute favorite!!!

Hoping you are all having fun!!

Hello everyone!

I hope the weekend was lots of fun for everyone. I had a serious run-in with some Christmas candy.... I totaled a huge amount in one crazed "I gotta have some"!! My first binge in 3 1/2 mos! Anyway, I'm back on fully as of yesterday. I won't weigh for a bit so that I won't freak.... gee whilikers!!!

I did see Two Towers last week. What a wonderful film!!! I also saw About Schmidt, which was excellent- more of an emotional drama sort of show, not funny like the reviews show.

Lots of package wrapping and such. I tried to do just the milk baths and things for gifts instead of baking, but I fell down because I bought candy for the guys and fill-ins.... I guess I just wanted some myself! :( Su

HI everyone,
Gosh, it's so nice to see so many of you back, especially when it is such a busy time.
Aleka, I got mine from HSN. I haven't even seen the other 3 tapes yet, still using the first one. I figure until I can do it really well and for 30 min. everyday, there is no point even looking at the others. They are suppose to be for the more advanced user anyway.

Our plans for the holidays have changed almost daily. Since these kids have grown up, they seem to have lives of their own.

Anne, you sound so happy. I hope your having a wonderful time.

Su, don't worry at all about that chocolate, I think everyone kind of goes over board around the holidays.

Kathy, see my last post for what I'm having for Christmas. It is not traditional, but I'm tired of making big meals.

Hi everyone!

Phew! I have been so busy with shopping, Christmas parties and visiting people that I basically have been home long enough to sleep, get up and go out again!

It seems as if you are doing well this past week-glad to hear it! :)

I am hoping to get a new job in January and I am keeping my fingers crossed!

Nikki- I am with you on keeping it simple for meals. My Christmas Eve buffet is mostly cold food with one or tow hot appetizers and DH is making meatballs -he is an excellent cook :)

Su- I have been eating chocolates too for the past 4 days:o

Anne-congratulations on you weight loss :hat: :cb:

Well I have to get some sleep now-I am exhausted and have to go to work tomorrow for a whole 4 hours

I hope you all have a lovely Christmas and I will talk to you all on the 27th!

Ok this is weird. I was here last night and made a post, and now I don't see it. Hmmmm. I am sure there was no earth shattering news, so not a big deal!

Had my CT Scan today, that barium was AWFUL. The first sip was 'Mmm. Berries.' It gradually went downhill from there. I was literally gagging down the 6th glass. I poured out the last ounce or so.

I've been baking all night and now I am sick from tasting. Good, glad it happened because now I won't be tempted when I look at all this stuff for the next couple of days. I am bringing a load to work tomorrow for them, and I guess the rest will go with me to my family get-together. Ok, I am nodding off at the keyboard, I better go to bed! See you all tomorrow.

Hi everyone,
I hope your all having a great holiday season.
We've made it this far ok. I really went nuts on the chocolate candy the last 2 days and I'm paying for it, big time. Tomorrow, an old friend that hasn't been back here for 7 years is coming over and a housefull of people are coming over to see him and celebrate. It will be nice, but we will sure be glad when this is all over. It has just seemed to overwhelm us both and we are both really exhausted. Too much celebrating for too long and we're too old.:D
Take care everyone, Nikki

Hope everyone enjoyed their holiday. I really was baaad. Mon. a friend and I had our holiday lunch, and both of us ate too much, and ontop of that, we each got a slice of cheesecake for dessert. Then we waddled to our cars, went to the mall, then waddled around the mall finishing up our Christmas shopping. Of course, it didn't end there, it's been one thing after another since then. Last night I had the most awful heartburn, I really suffered. So, today it's back to my diet.

We got 14" of snow yesterday. DH is out plowing and shoveling. We're getting too old for this.

Kathy, yes, that was me that answered your question on the SS site. I forgot to mention that I also steam the cauliflower, then press it in the potato ricer to get all the water out. If you can find celery root, please give it a try. Personally, I prefer the celery root. I am going to make the pots de creme for New Years. I had planned on making it for Christmas, but the only day I had free to make it was Sun., and I didn't know how good it would be making it that far ahead. The pancake mix we tried, which was the blueberry was awesome. Both DH & I loved it. I use Cottage City maple syrup. From what I read on the SS boards, her maple syrup is awful.

ANNE, how did your turkey come out? Hope you all enjoyed your meal.

mauvaisroux, it was nice seeing your post. I wish you good luck in getting your new job next month.:crossed: :lucky:

Jennifer, sorry you had to go through all that with the Barium, it is awful stuff. Hope you hear some good news from your CT scan.

nikki, got an e mail from Walmart, they've shipped the Gazelle I bought, it should arrive between 12/27 & 1/3. Can't wait!!!! :hyper: It looks like you are still celebrating. We still have to get together with some friends to exchange our gifts. They live in Mass., and we usually meet half-way at some restaurant for lunch or dinner. Enjoy your celebration tonight.

Take care and have a great day. Aleka

Hi everyone,
Aleka, your not the only one that's been bad. My goodness, I gained a pound in one day. My eating is now completely out of control, I even ate in the middle of the night. Today is the big party. DH and I have spent years avoiding this kind of thing and now, here we are. It wasn't even our idea, the guy the party is for came over the other day and at first, he was saying he wanted to come over today and just see us, then DH's family, then all sorts of people. Now we are both feeling like sitting ducks. Mauvaisroux, I don't know how you do it. We have become so reclusive, it's amazing.
Saturday, we are going to a birthday party. We haven't been to a party in over 3 years. These people always invite us to their get togethers and before, I just wasn't able to. The guy even drove clear out here to invite us, because he couldn't find our number. Then Sunday is my youngest DD birthday. I'm hoping by Jan 2, my life will become normal again. I've really been trying to limit myself, but I think it's more emotional eating for me than anything. Mostly anxiety, I guess. Tomorrow, after everyone has left, I plan on spending the day meditating and listening to the Smart Technique tapes. I want to try to focus on my goals. Well, that's the plan anyway.:^:

Good evening chickies! I hope you all had a good Christmas. Mine was really nice, but we celebrated with the food too much. I am reading up on SugarBusters and plan to try it on Monday. I think that will be the best way to feed my son also.

I was the party mom last week at Cody's school party. I was talking to his teacher and she said she had lost 30 pounds since the summer on low carb. I felt awful! Gee, that could have been me kinda thoughts...her husband is on it with her. That is the big reason why I really want to try SB, so we can all eat it. It is difficult to try and eat low carb when others in the house are eating bread and oatmeal and rice. Also, I realized I can't feed them meat flooded with cheese and cream sauces, plus carbs.

Well, it is off to heat up leftovers and try and cheer Cody up. He fell flat on his back in karate trying to do a jump kick and says he hurt his back, but I think he hurt his pride more. Good night!

tazcat, which SS book did you order? Did you get that storm Christmas Day that was along the East Coast? Hope you have good luck in finding the gazelle.

Jennifer, it really helps when your DH and the rest of the family is eating the way you are. I'm still trying to muddle my way through SB, because it's a little confusing, but I do grasp the concept. It really is a good way to eat. Let me know how you're doing with it.

nikki, how did your party go yesterday? DH & I sound a lot like you and your DH, we've always been recluses. I hate any sort of gathering. We prefer to stay in the woods where it's quiet most of the time;)

Have a great day. Aleka

HI everybody,
Hope your all doing well. Thanks Aleka, for saying that. I guess we are just really use to being alone most of the time and if we want to see other people, we go out. I'm so glad that is over with and I guess I was blowing things out of proportion. It went fine and we all had a good time. I really like this guy and wish he lived back here. He's like our adopted son, even though he's just 10 years younger than we are.
My diet has been so poor this last week. I haven't even exercised the last 2 days. I am getting back on track tomorrow though. I can't let all that hard work go for nothing.
Jennifer, your right about everyone being on the same plan. DH eats what I eat, but he also eats all kinds of sugar too and his weight has blossomed this past year. I try to keep that stuff out of the house, but he will still buy ice cream and candy for himself. Even if he doesn't bring it home, I know he will eat it away from here. I guess it helps if everyone wants to do the same thing. I wish I'd encourage better eating habits with my girls when they were growing up.
Bye for now, Nikki

Morning everyone,
I was so surprised this morning. I haven't weighed in several days, as I was afraid to. I've lost 3 lbs. so I'm now down below 230. I haven't been below 230 in over 6 years. I don't know how this happened, probably because nothing stayed inside of me long enough.
Anne, I have been so sick from this sugar. I can tell your drug out and I sure feel like that too. We have the 2 birthday parties, today and tomorrow. I don't like cake, it has always made me sick, so that will not be a problem. We don't do anything for New Years, it's just too risky anymore to drive anywhere. Since we're getting older, we're usually in bed by 9pm anyway.
Got to go exercise and get myself together. Take care, Nikki

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. We have snowmobilers around this weekend, and sounds like a lot of bees buzzing around.

Yesterday we met some out of state friends, for lunch and had our Christmas. We pick a restaurant half-way for both of us to meet.

DH & I usually buy a bottle of chamagne for New Years Eve. We do go to bed around 9-ish and if one of us wakes up before midnight, we wake the other one up and toast in the New Year. If neither of us wakes up, then we have a bottle of champagne for our anniv. in Feb. and we've been known to totally forget the champagne is there.

nikki, congratulations on the weight loss, but sorry you aren't feeling well. Hope you're feeling better soon. My stomach hasn't felt all that great from the pie I've eaten, not to mention the cheesecake I ate. I ate a piece of candy that was all chocolate yesterday, and it was horrible!! Gave the bag to DH to take down stairs in our machine shop for him to eat.

tazcat, this used to be a SS message board, but for various reasons some of us have either switched programs, or added other programs to do along with SSzing. I am currently going to WW, but trying to do SB along with WW. SB is the same concept as SS. I do have all of Suzanne's books, and I like the latest one the best. It's more of the type of foods I like, and the recipes have few ingredients. Suzanne does have a website, www.suzannesomers.com that you can get a lot of good tips and recipes.

Take care and enjoy the rest of the weekend. Aleka

HI everyone,
Tazcat, sounds like a nightmare where you work. I use to be and RN and I know what that's like. Hope your staying well.
Personally, I was only sick from the candy. DD had the stomach flu. She's been sick for the last 4 days with some really bad thing. Today is her birthday and hopefully, she is better and will not be contagious to the rest of us. She'll be 22 today, my littliest girl.
Aleka, I did the same thing with the box of chocolates-gave them to DH, but I ate more than one. They tasted really good to me. Their all gone now. He ate 2 boxes of chocolates in 2 days. He finely said yesterday that he will get back on track after he goes back to work (he's on vacation til jan. 3rd). I haven't even mentioned anything about his weight or how he's eating, I guess he can tell on his own. We usually get a bottle of Asti Spumanti for our anniversary. We were married on valentines day in Las Vegas. It was a cheap easy way to get married. I wouldn't recommend getting married on that day out there though, we stood in line for 5 hours getting our marriage certificate from the court house. It was cold too.
Last night, we went to that birthday party. I didn't have anything to eat or drink, except for a bottle of water. It's not as much fun being around a big group of drunk people when your sober. But, I was glad I didn't drink. The cigarette smoke was what finally made me leave. I had to shower when I got home, it was so aweful.
I'm staying on track with my eating, but may have to eat some cake and ice cream today. I don't like cake, but the dd will expect me to eat some.
Have a good day, Nikki

We are off to Mass. to deliver some parts and plan on stopping at this bakery in the southern part of NH, just over the Mass. border, that sells sugar-free...low carb everything!!! They have this fabulous bread called Mountain Bread, and whenever we stop I always get DH & I these little mini-sugarless cheesecakes for a treat.

tazcat, your welcome. SSzing is easy to grasp once you know the combinations. I like the fact that you eat real food, and not any processed foods. I used to be the queen of frozen dinners, but I had one last summer....:p

nikki, I'm glad that it isn't the flu that was making you feel sick. I remember when I used to eat a lot of sugary stuff around the holidays, then stopped cold turkey, I would start shaking unless I had my sugar fix. That would last a day or so, then I was fine. Now, I can't stomach anything made with sugar. I see that Tony Little will be on HSN Jan. 3rd. I wonder which Gazelle he'll be selling? Mine has been shipped. Hopefully I'll get it soon. The cigarette smoke would have driven me away. I am allergic to it, I have sinus trouble and I suffer for days if I'm anywhere near cigarette smoke! I don't like being around drunk people when you're sober either. Good for you for not drinking. When DH & I were a lot younger we drank quite a lot, but as we got older it lost its appeal, and when I look back I wonder how we did it.

Take care and have a great day. Aleka

A quick question, Is SB the same as Suzanne Somers? People on SB don't seem to know.

Tazcat,
With sugarbusters, you can eat carbs and protein and fats together. Portion size is also important. They also eat reduced fat items. With Somersizing, at least when your on level one, you do not mix carbs and pro/fats. They are eaten seperately. If you eat carbs, it is with fat free products, not reduced fat. Fruit is eaten seperately and with sugarbusters, they do not eat it seperately, I have recipes where they even add butter to apples with nuts. You won't eat nuts on somersizing. This is all I can remember right now, without looking through a bunch of books. Maybe someone else knows more. You can use some of their recipes, just follow Suzannes guidelines for level one. Sometimes, I've used some and just left stuff out. Night, Nikki

Nikki-congratulations on the loss! :cp:

Tazcat-I am doing the SS woe but I kind of fell off the wagon over the holidays  I am getting back on track on January 2-got my updated grocery list and everything! I love the new book and can't wait to try the recipes. I have looked at the Sugar busters boards once in a while and it looks to me like there a some similarities and that you could use some of the recipes-I have thought of trying a few of them out myself. I say check the recipes on the board against the principles of SS and see which work out and go for it!

Hi Aleka, Anne, Jennifer and Su!

Have a great New Year everyone! :hat: :balloons: :cb:

Hey Taz! The main difference in the two is that SS does food combining. Like Mauv said, as long as you seperate them out in the groups, most of the food is fine. I would double check SS's list of funky foods and level 2 foods, then search out the recipes from there. To prevent confusion, I would stick with one for a while and then search out the recipes from the other, then you will know the plan better. I tried to do a lower carb SB once, and I completely screwed it up, got the best of both diets and gained about 10 pounds. Eeek!

Here is an excellent run-down of SS, written by our very own Aleka!
http://www.3fatchicks.com/index.php?option=displaypage&Itemid=54&op=page&SubMenu=

We are working on the low glycemic pages next, and SB will be on that page. Meanwhile, I will look for a synopsis of SB!

I got the mountain bread yesterday, and last night DH & I had their sugarless cheesecake. They are the size of tarts. They are sooo good. I'm glad that we don't live near there.

I'm making Suzanne's Pots de Creme later on to have tonight and tomorrow for dessert. Have any of you made it before? If not, I'll let you know how it comes out.

tazcat, I hope I didn't comfuse you about SS & SB. The only way they are alike is eliminating the sugar out of your diet, eliminating some of the same fruits and vegetables, and they say to eat fruit alone, on an empty stomach ( as long as it doesn't cause any digestive problems), that's what I meant about them having the same concept:sorry: Other than those things, SB is different.

Jennifer, I ordered the new SB book from Amazon, hoping it would explain things better for me. Unfortunately it won't be here until Feb. because I also ordered the new John Grisham book and they're coming together. Yesterday I was in BJ's, and the new SB book was there...cheaper than on Amazon :censored: What I need is to see what a typical day of eating is. The menu ideas they give in the first book are for maintenance. I really feel so much better since I've gotten sugar out of my system.

mauvaisroux, good for you for getting back OP. Ya, I fell off the wagon too. The other day when I went grocery shopping, I bought a lot of fresh veggies, salad fixins, and meat, and tomorrow will be my fresh start.

I want to wish you all a very Healthy and Happy New Year. Here's to our goals in 2003 :high:

Happy New Years Eve,
I hope everyone has a safe, fun, happy day/evening.

I will also be (just like lots of other people) getting a new start tomorrow. Yesterday, I pigged out at a Mexican restaurant and had a big supper too. Oh dear. I'm so glad these holidays are almost over with. Too much of a good thing, too many times.
DH also says he will start getting serious. It is so much easier to stay on track when you don't have a guy wanting to eat all kinds of good tasting bad stuff all the time right in front of you.
