Good morning! My timely reminder just popped up about the time change. I hope I remember to set the clock ahead tonight so I'm not late for church tomorrow. It'll be nice to have daylight stretch into the evening.
We got snow last night! No fair! It's a good thing I picked up some flowers when I was in town yesterday or I'd really be in a snit. Aside from some red gerberas, I got some pots of "shamrocks" (oxalis) that look very cheery on the windowsills in the kitchen. I bought an extra for Donna who has had a really rough time lately.
Right now I'm about to launch a dog rescue in my dog yard. Because of the melt, there is a creek running through the yard and poor Disney is afraid to cross it. I'm hoping she'll be brave enough to splash through it if I go out there. So ... into the warm clothes and boots, hoping this works. I know I'll get wet.
03-12-2011, 07:11 AM
Ruth, I love oxalis too. Last year was the first time I saw a green one, usually I can only find purple. Maybe I'll pick one up at the green market today...
I'm having a blood test this morning (part of my yearly physical through my husband's union) so I can't have coffee and I'm so upset. I need my coffee!! My appointment is at 8:30 and they are usually pretty good about doing the bloodwork immediately (then directing you to the kitchen where coffee and snacks are waiting) but that's still 2.5 hours away and I've got to get myself into the city uncaffinated.
Other than my physical, I am meeting a friend for lunch in the city and that's about it for today for me, the rest of the afternoon will be chill. Tomorrow will be busy (one hour less time, and then church, and we are meeting a friend for an early dinner) so I want to get everything I need to get done for the weekend done this afternoon. Hope everyone has a great day...
03-12-2011, 07:20 AM
:coffee: Good Saturday morning! It's looking to be a long day, and I want to enjoy my coffee and some ME time before the day starts. It's my son and DIL's much anticipated moving day today, and I'll have little Tyler ALL day. Jake will be busy helping them move, so the two of us will be on our own. :) I'm planning on taking him to story time at Barnes & Noble this morning, and it should be nice enough to spend some time at the park this afternoon. Hopefully, that will wear him out enough to take a little nap. ;)
Ruth, thanks for reminding all of us to set our clocks ahead before going to bed tonight. Can you imagine the chaos it would cause if didn't happen on a weekend? :dizzy: I'm sure the shamrocks will bring a bit of cheer into Donna's life and make her smile, and enjoy your flowers, too. Sorry about the snow.
Good morning, Matilda! Or, at least I hope it will be a good one after your blood test and a nice cup coffee!
03-12-2011, 07:37 AM
I've got my to do list made and I'm getting ready to lock the doors and pull the shades to ensure I can get everything done today.
Enjoy your Saturday!
03-12-2011, 07:41 AM
Heidi, my friend Lianne has a door mat that says "GO AWAY" in big letters. Maybe you need one too.
Just rescued my darling Disney and managed to get soaked. The ice can hold a 25 pound do but not a 190 pound woman. I did take my cell with me when I went out in case a 911 call was needed. Coffee and a hot shower are about to happen.
03-12-2011, 07:46 AM
I'm with Heidi, focusing on the house today, except for some exercise at the pool...and perhaps a bike ride there. They're having a chili challenge tomorrow at church to raise money for the youth and I decided this morning that I am not going to cook...unless I hear from the youth director that they're short on entries :rollpin:
Ruth, ouch...more snow! I hope you are warm and dry now after your morning adventure.
Matilda, coffee is getting closer! Yay for getting your bloodwork done!
Linda, your day sounds busy. Have fun at Barnes and Noble and I hope the move is smooth.
Heidi, go for it!
OK, pups have been out. I'm off to project land. OP!
03-12-2011, 08:04 AM
Good morning, everyone! It's sunny here, and yesterday was in the 50s. I actually got to take the kids to the park, and it felt great! So, I'm still totally loving South Beach. My one month SB anniversary is in 3 days. My goal was to lose 10 lbs. I'm anxiously awaiting the one-month-weigh-in, but worried that since I got my period on Wednesday I will be retaining water...hoping not though since it is a few days away. Enjoy the weekend, everyone (and thanks for the clock reminder, Ruth)!
03-12-2011, 08:20 AM
I did not sleep well last night - lots of dreams about eating lots of off plan food. There was this one spice cake in particular that stands out in my memory. Yesterday I did stay OP but in the evening ate too much in an attempt to stay awake. I wish I just ate when I was hungry:(
Today our HS boy's basketball team is playing in the state finals. DS is filming one more time but DH decided to make the 3 hour drive to watch. DS1 is in Boston with a carload of college friends attending a gaming convention. Not much else going on. Might actually get more work done on the scrapbooks today. Finally tried printing off photos with our new printer.
Have a great weekend everyone. I'll be back later... after tea and emptying the dishwasher and whatever else distracts me...
03-12-2011, 08:45 AM
Good morning :coffee2: Our snow is melting and I can see more and more bare spots :woohoo: The squirrels can't jump onto the feeders anymore. Today I'm going to get out for a walk, even if I have to wear my rain pants to deal with the mess. I'm sooo sick of being stuck inside.
We are looking forward to the clock change around here. We've been going to bed at 9 and waking up at 4 for the last week so I think our bodies were practicing :)
Ruth - poor Disney! Hope you are all warmed up and relaxing now.
Mathilda - Enjoy your relaxing afternoon
Cottage - What a fun day ahead for you!
Heidi - Love that idea! Happy and productive Saturday
Debbie - It's still too early for me to ride my bike. The sides of the road are either muddy, creeks, or snow covered (maybe I'm just a wimpy bike rider!). Happy swimming, biking and organizing :)
Nicole - Your post makes me want to jump in the car and drive south! Good luck with your weigh-in
Karen- Any chance you can sneak a nap in today?
Technically this is a calm weekend before the next busy week. We just found out our bill is going before a joint committee hearing Tuesday though, so there will definitely be some work this weekend after all. I also need to go into town to Staples for copies. DW and I are thinking about grabbing lunch somewhere. I have to keep stopping my weekend shopping urge because we are going to be in Montpelier Mon. - Wed. so no need to stock a lot of produce up for the week.
Other than a little work there will be cleaning, a little laundry and I'm definitely getting out for a walk today. Such excitement ;)
03-12-2011, 09:24 AM
Sun's out - hoping to go for a run. Working back up to 5K world . . .
Have a great day!
03-12-2011, 09:49 AM
Big plans (work, hiking, a cheat meal I've been looking forward to for a month) this weekend. Oh, and iPad2 - got the last one at my local Walmart. :) Happy day!
Hope you have a spring in your step this spring day! :)
03-12-2011, 09:59 AM
We are leaving soon for the Odyessy of the Mind competition. It will be an all day event for me since I am the coordinator for our school. The things we bite off and do for our kids. In this case not just my personal kid, but my kids at school. I am not the coach of my son's team, because I wanted a few of my kids I work with to be able to do this, so I coach them. The kids were so excited yesterday. They also were excited, because we got shirts made and they turned out great.
Have a great day!!
03-12-2011, 10:02 AM
Karen - I did the same thing last night, only my dreams were about coupons! :?: Chris said I'd talk to him for a minute, then I'd start mumbling in my sleep, he'd ask if I was ok, then I'd talk to him for a minute, then back into my dream mumbling again. Yeesh. Was it a full moon?
Speaking of coupons, getting ready to go to the store. Hope everyone has a FABULOUS day! :D
03-12-2011, 10:56 AM
Jasmine - good luck for the competition, I love doing things like that with kids at school :-) However much I moan about having to give up my evenings/weekends, it is always worth it to see them get so excited and proud of themselves!
I didn't end up going shopping today because my friend has a cold and wants to sleep it off before going out tonight. I have a cold too, but I am not hardcore enough to go out clubbing with a cold. Sometimes I think I'm old before my time...
Instead I cycled to the out of town supermarket (no running because I can't breathe through my nose!) and took advantage of their -25% on all organic food. Now I'm making orange, cranberry and walnut muffins because I've decided to move on to phase two.
Have a nice day everyone :)
03-12-2011, 11:40 AM
Hi chicks, I'm getting a slow start this morning. We hosted a movie night in town last night and didn't get home until midnight. I slept in 'til 9. I hope that will make up for the daylight savings time change tonight. I hate that spring forward.
I think I'm dragging because I decided my project for the day will be basement organization, as I've got lots of stuff on the floor down there, and this is the time of year it becomes a swimming pool, so I need to get everything up and put away. But I'm not looking forward to doing it. :(
I'm down to a half dose of prednisone, and all I do anymore is pee, so I'm hopeful I'll have good scale news at my doctor's appt on Tues.
Jasmine, good luck at Odyssey of the Mind. That's a great program. Kudoes to you for volunteering your time to help out.
03-12-2011, 07:46 PM
Ruth, you poor thing........more snow  And here I am thinking about planting some nice colorful Spring flowers outside about now. Thanks for the reminder to turn our clocks back this evening. My body just doesn't like the time changes. It usually takes me about a week to adjust. But, I do love the longer days and can hardly wait until they are really long and warm and Spring and Summer are here. You were an  for rescuing your fur baby. Hope you've gotten warm by now.
Matilda, hope your lab results are good.
Cottage, sounds like a fun day with Tyler but bet you'll need a nap this afternoon.
Heidi, had to laugh at your gum confession. Old habits are hard to get rid of, aren't they.
Debbie, I am jealous of your bike rides. I haven't been on a bike since I was a little girl.
Nicole, an outing on a sunny day can do wonders for ones mental health. Glad you were able to get out.
Karen, sorry you had a sleepless night. I think we all have that same wish.
Cyndi, congrats on your bill moving along.
Ultimate, hope you got your wish for a run today. I know getting my walk in sure made me feel better.
Annie, have a great time with your cheat meal but don't forget to come right
back. An iPad2, you go girl!
Jasmine, Good job working with the kids, hope they did great.
Lisa, looked for you at the grocery store today but didn't see you :).
Claire, another biker..............good for you.
Schmoodle, hope you were able to get motivated and got lots done down in the basement.
OMG I sure didn't want to exercise today. Let myself talk me out of doing it first thing and when I do that, it is sooooo hard to get it done. Finally this afternoon I grabbed our dog and out the door I went. Because he is older (8 years) and has a flat face, he can't walk very far but I did get some in and I'm now so very glad that I did.
Ran to the grocery store this morning and spent longer than I thought because it's harder to find some of the items that I needed that I'm not yet used to buying.
Well time to start dinner. So far today I'm on plan and have gotten two of my meals in. Way to go me! :cheer: Hope you all are doing as well.
03-13-2011, 07:41 AM
"Morning, Beachers. I hope you all remembered the time change if you are in North America. It sure is dark at 6:40 around here. The dogs are now back in bed.
Church and then a relatively free day. It's nice to know that because next week is busy with pet therapy, meetings and friends who think March break is a good time to drive up to Delta with their grandkids to see Ruth and the dogs. I keep saying "Phone me first" but ... I guess I need to stick up on milk and cookies.
03-13-2011, 07:53 AM
I was just complaining about the morning dark but I'm going to love the light after work. Enjoy your day Ruth!
03-13-2011, 08:00 AM
Tallandthin - yep another biker, you should try it! I actually do it for ideological reasons (I live in a city where it is absolutely unnecessary to drive) but it is great fun, much quicker than driving/taking the tram, good exercise and is saving me €€€€€€€. I can highly recommend it!
My day is also pretty free. I got up late (yeah!), am finishing a semester paper (the last one before I graduate!), updating my blog and will attempt a slow, long run. I am meeting a friend for coffee later. To be honest, I am counting down the days (25!) until my boyfriend comes back so I have my exercise buddy back. He's always up for a bike ride/ run/ hike. No one else wants to!
Have a good day :)
03-13-2011, 08:14 AM
It did feel dark this morning, didn't it? But like Cyndi I'm looking forward to the extra daylight this afternoon/evening. :)
I got so much done yesterday and feel so good about it. Of course there's always more to do so when it comes right down to it I could sequester myself again today and get even more done - but one day a weekend is enough for me. :) I fell asleep on the couch last night though, I'd tired myself out. LOL
Church today, then grocery shopping, a visit with a friend and a walk outside. I've got to get my lesson plans done sometime today too - I usually do them on Saturday evening but I was Zzzzzzzz ing on the couch instead!
Enjoy your Sunday friends!
03-13-2011, 08:46 AM
I actually slept in a bit so didn't really notice that it didn't get light until later, but I'm sure I will notice tomorrow am! My appointment went great yesterday, and then I took a long, long walk through the city to meet my friend for lunch. Then I came home and took my son to the playground and then we took another long walk together! We stopped at the video store to get a movie for him, then came home and I cooked beef stew, egg casserole for breakfasts (no quinoa, since I'm on phase 1 for the week), made hard boiled eggs and edamame, and spagetti squash casserole for dinner last night!
Today it's church and then we're driving to see a friend for lunch. I don't really have much prep for the week to do since I did it all yesterday, so today should be relaxing. Hope everyone has a great one...
03-13-2011, 09:24 AM
Well I sure goofed. Last night I turned the clocks back rather than forward, and when I first woke up this morning I decided it was too early to get up yet. :o I'm going to blame it on the fact that I wasn't feeling well when we went to bed, and I'm still not feeling up to par today. I'm really disappointed, because I had planned on going into the city to walk with Carley and her Irish Dance Troupe in the parade, but I think I'd best stay home today. :(
03-13-2011, 10:02 AM
I hate it being dark in the mornings. I don't like it being dark when I am head to work. Okay, I am done with my whining.
Yesterday was exhausting. The kids had a blast at the competition. We had parents asking if we were going to do it again next year. We said yes. It is just a great opportunity for our higher level thinkers. We have a lot of things for kids who are struggling, but not near as much for those who are at the other end. So Odyessy of the Mind is one thing we can offer.
Today is church and cleaning. I might go get a pedicure. The weather is supposed to be nice this week which means I'll want to wear my sandals.
Have a great Sunday!!
03-13-2011, 11:33 AM
Good morning chicks. I turned the clock ahead and went to bed kind of early last night, so this morning wasn't too painful. I was beat, as I spent 5 hours in the basement yesterday, but it's about as spotless and organized as a dirt floor basement can get now. Plus I had some wine, and that was it. I'm cranky this morning though, DD1 brought some beignet mix back from her NO trip, so I made some for the kids this morning, which put me in a bad mood. I didn't have any, not even tempted. But I hate to fry things, the mess and the smell.
Today is housecleaning, some cooking, and a walk planned later with a friend. It's beautiful out right now, hope it stays for a while!
I need to use up some eggplant, some cabbage, and I think I'll make some red lentils. Off to hunt recipes...
03-13-2011, 12:33 PM
Ouch, Cottage, for setting clocks the wrong way! Oh well, the parade will probably be better on TV.
Schmoodle, I've been eating red lentils all week. I decided to try to cook them like the baked brown rice. It was so interesting...they came out the texture of dahl after you do the blending. I just topped the mash with fresh salsa and DH said the dinner was the best he can remember. We had the lentil mash, brown rice and a great chopped salad.
Me, slept lots last night. We rose to darkness at 7 and went and met up with the dog walking group at 8 down by the Colorado River. Rudi did pretty good considering it's the most exercise he's had in ages and we were all happy to be out again. Church, more organizing at home, then I've committed to picking up a rescue pup from Utah and transporting him to a foster home in Carbondale, about 12 miles South.
Mom just called-gotta run.
Have a great Sunday, friends!
03-13-2011, 03:31 PM
Ruth, our daughter is taking her Frenchie to his first pet therapy outing next month. She is so excited and I'm sure he will do great as he is so laid back but yet so friendly.
Just went out and picked up of the bulldog "deposits" as dh is going to mow just as soon as he finishes hanging all of the bird nest boxes. The bluebirds and swallows are ready. I love the smell of freshly cut grass!
Nice walk this morning but no fluffy clouds, just overcast and gray. But I did get to see a flock of Canadian Honkers come down and land in a pond and then splash around like little kids for a while. I swear their "honking" was laughter while all the splashing was going on. Can hardly wait to see the first batch of babies this Spring.
Got to get off and go start the corned beef and cabbage for dh for his St. Paddy's treat. One of his favorite dinners plus he loves the sandwiches later. Something else for me of course. Oops, just realized I probably shouldn't have talked about this food porn........sorry about that.
03-13-2011, 04:47 PM
Good afternoon! Just popping in to say hey. It's 77* outside, my lovely Blue Devils won the ACC championship today, and I'm perfectly on plan. We're grilling tonight, so I'm not sure if I'm going to do this turkey sausage I have or be good and do some chicken breast on a salad. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I hope you're all having a day as wonderful as mine!
03-13-2011, 05:33 PM
Things have been weird around here, and they won't let up until next week. I'm off diet as of my third day in, but with a good excuse. I was up late thursday night, went to bed, and not 3 hours later was fending off calls from family to evacuate. We're not in the induction zone, but town is.
Yesterday we did a drive through the two local harbors. One was moderately damaged, but not awful. My coworker says I must not have seen the commercial side, she said it's destroyed. Our harbor is destroyed, waves washed over the parking lot. The beach is a mess. The concrete bits that were placed up against the hwy are now strewn over the sand. All the ships that went out to sea had to go south to Eureka to port. They couldn't come to port up here. The docks are gone, the harbor is a hazard zone. We got lucky. Not half as bad as 64, and nothing compared to Japan.
My brother and his family are coming to visit tonight and will be up a week.
I'll be back on the beach when they leave. I have the whole week to prep for it.
03-13-2011, 10:20 PM
Good evening, ladies. Sorry I don't have time for personals today, but I just wanted to pop in and say hello real quick. Had my 5K yesterday morning...it was the first one that my mom has done w/ me. My time was 2 minutes slower than my last 5K b/c I slowed down to walk w/ my mom. Mom placed 2nd in her age group!!! :) Took Shadow to the dog park afterwards and then had a cookout/bonfire w/ some friends. Took wheat buns for the hamburgers we were having which is pretty much a moot point considering the pony keg of beer, shots of Southern Comfort, and smores. EEK!!! Back on track today!!!
