100 lb. Club - She's here! And she came with a super bonus!

Amelia Anne Louise
January 25th 2011
23 inches long
Our giant baby! It was a very long and harrowing journey at the end. We had hoped that her birth would be just us, our midwife and a bathtub. It couldn't have been more opposite.
Long story short - 32 hours of labour -2 spinals- endless IV's - every intervention I never wanted and an emergency c-section to top it all off.
It turned out that she had a knot in her cord, her cord was wrapped all around her, she was over 10 pounds...AND, she had her arm up over her head! (Called a compound presentation).
We would most certainly both have died had we been alone or not had medical intervention, so I'm incredibly grateful.
It's been hard dealing with the trauma, but we are so incredibly, OVERJOYED!!! She's an amazingly easy baby, so sweet and sleepy.
Anyway, just thought you'd like to know she's here!
OH, and the bonus! I lost 15 pounds during the pregnancy, and today at 12 days after birth, I'm 42 pounds LESS than when I got pregnant!!! It's my biggest loss ever. I've only made it to 40 pounds in the past!

Awwww, she's beautiful!
I'm sorry about the traumatic birth - I hope you heal up quickly, both physically and emotionally. Having a beautiful little thing like that to snuggle should help :)

Wow. So sorry to hear about all the trauma involved. I'm happily childfree, but I just can not even imagine such a thing. My mom had a c section with me because my cord was choking me, I was born blue.
My sister was a c section too, not sure why. You sound happy though, that's great. My mom had really REALLY bad like, psychotic post partum after both of us.
I have a friend on facebook who is anti c section in almost all cases, and she's always posting about how it's not really needed like 99% of the time and how you should insist on doing it 'your way' ...which it sounds like you tried but sometimes medical intervention is necessary. Wishing you a good recovery and some sleep. ;)

Wow, ten pounds! She is a cutie though. :) Congrats on your beautiful baby girl and the weight loss!
02-06-2011, 06:50 PM
She's so beautiful and I love her name! Congratulations!
Take your time recovering - I've gone the emergency C-section route and it takes longer to recover than it does for a planned section (I've had 2 planned after the first). You did labor and surgery!

Thank you SOOO much Ladies!!
Lottie! I was the same way! I was totally in denial that I could possible ever need a c-section after birthing 2 kids naturally with no drugs whatsoever.
I still feel the same way mostly, except we were one of the cases where there was just no other option but to die... Obviously not a good choice! I was so pissed about the medication they had to give me, from the IV's to the spinal, and everything in between.
I'm just so grateful that we're both OK and she's here safe. I figure, and the doctors and midwife both told us that we did everything we could to avoid it, including 32 hours of labour....
Even though things didn't go according to plan, I'm just so blissfully happy :cloud9:
Thanks you so much for all the love,

Oy, I feel for you! My first birth was a failed home birth and c-section in the end, my second was a VBAC with a nuchal hand (compound presentation). No fun at all.
That weightloss is fantastic, congratulations!

What a Cutie Pie. You did a great job, Mom!! Congrats!!
02-07-2011, 08:51 AM
Congrats on the new baby! :)
That's so interesting to read -- did you had GD? Mine was a 9 lb 5 oz, I did have gestational diabetes, and like you after the birth I lost 40 lbs in a strange whoosh from 262 to 222. I had no idea I was keeping that much on that would disappear.
02-07-2011, 09:43 AM
She is so precious!! congrants on your little miracle!
02-07-2011, 10:07 AM
Congratulations Linda!! She is beautiful!
02-07-2011, 10:29 AM
Oh she is absolutely GORGEOUS! Congratulations and welcome to the world little (big) Amelia!! :)
02-07-2011, 02:29 PM
Astrophe, yes, I did have GD with this pregnancy (but not with my older 2, DS 13 and DD 9.5). I followed the diet to a T, and took my insulin just like I was supposed to. I can't imagine how big she'd have been if I had done nothing!
Maybe it made no difference at all, I guess we'll never know!
02-07-2011, 10:25 PM
She's beautiful! Congrats! :)
