I want to go off od my diet today because it would be enjoyable to have a cheeseburger and fries or go to olive garden. I am bored of only eating salads and foods with little or no taste. I haven't lost any weight yet and I have been eating healthy for 2 weeks. I am very frustrated.

Why are you eating foods with no taste ? The grocery store is full of healthy, tasty , low calorie foods.

Eating healthy does not have to be a bore. Just add different things to your salads like squeeze lemon juice, sauté onions, bell peppers and garlic and top your salad with it and it should give you flavors you can enjoy. My teenager loves it when I prepare her salads that way. I hope this helps. Whatever you do don't give up on yourself.

And give it some time. :) Your tastebuds will change and you'll learn to love the taste of natural foods. Who knew that carrots are sweet and pineapple is nature's candy? Nothing tastes better than a perfect apple with some natural peanut butter. :T

I couldn't have stuck to this for almost ten years if I didn't love what I eat. Be creative and explore new recipes! You'll find foods you love too. :)

Sounds like you need to find some variety! There's a LOT you can make that is healthy and calorie controlled, and isn't a salad. This week, I'm making the following (all of which come in at around 400 calories per meal and serve 4)

Last week:
Monday - Smoked pork chop (very lean, trimmed of fat), beet risotto, and broccoli with garlic, lemon, and oregano.

Tuesday - Roasted pork tenderloin, whole wheat couscous with chopped dried fruit and fresh oregano, roasted cauliflower.

Wednesday - Chili made with extra lean stew meat, red beans, zucchini, bell pepper, tomatoes, and lots of seasonings, served with fat free sour cream, a sprinkle of 2% cheese, and a crumbled baked corn tortilla (25 calorie mini tortilla) on top.

Thursday - Flatbread pizza and salad. You can find Flat Out wraps to make your own pizzas that are high fiber and low calorie.

Friday - Tostadas - baked corn tortillas (150 calories worth) with lean ground turkey or beef cooked up with bell pepper, zucchini, and onion, 1/3 cup refried beans, olives, lettuce, and a dollop of fat free sour cream

This Week:
Monday - Beef and broccoli (1 lb lean beef, sliced thinly, tons of broccoli, garlic, onion, and a sauce made of chicken broth, soy sauce, 2 tbsp hoisin sauce, and a little cornstarch to thicken) over brown jasmine rice.

Tuesday - Pork chops with apple butter/mustard glaze (just 1 tsp apple butter and 1 tsp dijon, plus seasonings), thinly sliced cabbage sauteed with a diced apple and a diced onion, with a little nutmeg, and roasted cubed butternut squash.

Wednesday - Chili again. I love it in wintertime.

Thursday - Roasted pork tenderloin (it's a VERY lean cut), beet risotto, and roasted cauliflower.

Friday we're doing wedding prep for my cousin's wedding, so I won't be cooking. But my point is that you can have a TON of variety. You'll have trouble sticking to your plan if it bores you, so find some new things you like to cook and experiment with ways to get a whole lot of healthy options with the calories you have to work with.

I agree, why are you eating food with no flavor? And salads? Do you cook? Do you have any cookbooks? What plan are you following? We can give you some recipes and tips if you give us a little more info.

You should look up some recipes or foods that are healthy that you do enjoy. You could eat a small hamburger made from lean meat and baked/grilled. You need to develop a healthy eating plan that you enjoy and are willing to stick with for the long run. I have gotten off my diet several times in the past year and gained weight back. But, I must admit that I do enjoy a lot of the food I am eating right now. Good luck! :)

Oh my, have you taken a look at the recipe section here at 3FC? Have you checked some of the on-line recipe sites? I can guarantee you that you can make foods that will blow your mind with flavor and aroma. You've got to step outside the box sometimes and explore the options.

I probably only eat a "salad" once a week. Think in lines of roasted lean meats and veggies. Savory soups and thick hearty oatmeal dishes. Herbs and spices are the key.

A french fry is a plain white potato fried in oil with salt...what is so exciting about that?

I used to feel the same way - for me, it's because I wasn't ready change. I needed to put in the effort - research new recipes, find ways to lighten up my favorites, and eating as fresh as possible. I think a little looking and planning may help you. What foods do you love? How can you make them healthy? What new things would you like to try?

Try some of the 3fc recipe sections- you don't need to be on South Beach (for example) to eat some of their YUMMY suggestions!

Food hast to taste good no doubt about it. I've been cooking daily for 18 years and I'm happy to say I don't have to change things much to lose weight. For me, it's eating more of the green beans, and not eating the potato.

Salads are great, but you don't have to just eat salads to lose weight. Heck, if you REALLLLLY need a cheeseburger, make one yourself. Get really lean ground meat, make it a smallish portion, put on some lean cheese and voila! To make it really zing, add spices or onion to your beef patty.

if you want to lose weight and keep it off, you won't succeed by eating something you don't enjoy. It's OK to love food - when fat, when losing weight and getting fit and when you're thin.

if you don't like salads after trying many different things, you don't have to eat them. Sometimes i eat salad everyday bc i like it, but sometimes i go a week or two just because i don't feel like eating salad, and that's ok.

as far as olive garden goes, have you tried making a low cal version of your favorite dish there? my favorite dish was the eggplant parm, but after some experimenting i make my own baked version for under 400 calories, and i think it even tastes better too, and i load up my marinara with mushrooms and red peppers and whatever else happens to be hibernating in the fridge. you could do the same with chicken parm or any other dish there. as a calorie counter i find the most important thing is to weigh my pasta before i cook it since that's where most of the calories come from. you won't get "olive garden" sized portions but you do get a delicious pasta meal! olive garden actually posts recipes on their website and you can try substituting things - like skim milk for whole milk, low fat cheese, etc and see how low you can get the calories to go.

What are your cooking skills like? Did you cook very much before embarking on your diet? What did you usually cook?

You may want to look for healthier versions of the recipes that you're used to cooking weekly.

For me, part of losing over 100 pounds involved cooking my meals far more frequently, and clocking a lot of time looking for recipes, and becoming a lot more familiar with the contents of my spice shelf. I had to learn a lot of new skills. This was a very worthwhile investment of my time.

And yes, I do eat salads a lot, but mostly because a bed of fresh greens can be good under any meal, with nearly anything thrown on top of it. (Including Amanda's beloved chili.) My goal is to eat mostly vegetables at lunch & that can involve salad-like concoctions but the vegetables that top them are often cooked.

You know what's boring eating? Going to a fast food place and always, always, always ordering the same thing. Eating an entire box or bag of the same stuff, whether it's chips or cookies or crackers. Eating a huge plate of one kind of food. Yet that's what I always used to do. I don't know how I could stand the lack of variety!

Eating healthy is only as boring as you make it. I haven't eaten a salad in...oh, maybe a month or so? I don't much like salad either. But I DO like:

- black bean and pulled pork tacos with fresh salsa
- chili con carne
- pizza loaded with veggies
- steak and "creamed" spinach served with a baked sweet potato
- omelets with spinach and feta
- egg "mcmuffins" with a thick slice of tomato on each
- chicken and vegetable curry
- chicken in forty cloves of garlic with asparagus and green beans
- onion soup
- meat loaf
- vegetable stew
- more wraps and sandwiches than I could possibly detail in one post

That's the kind of stuff I eat now. In fact, I have most of that stuff (and more) to choose from at any given time. There's WAY more variety in my life now than there ever was when I ate mindlessly.

I encourage you to look hard at your current food choices and see how far you can broaden them while staying on your plan. You may find (as I did) that being constrained calorie-wise forces you to get more creative in the kitchen. If you're just living on salad...well, you haven't even scratched the surface.

You mentioned that you are eating healthy and not losing any weight. Are you monitoring your calories? After not losing weight, I realized that I was overeating healthy food. You might want to tally your calories to see just how much you are taking in. Just because you are eating healthy, it doesn't necessarily mean you are going to lose weight automatically.

Girl what ARE you talking about? Healthy food is DELICIOUS!

Tonight I'm having peppers, onions, zucchini, and chicken cooked with a spray of olive oil and grilling seasonings (like Ms. Dash). I put that in a foil and seal it up- toss it on the grill for 15 minutes and it's HEAVEN! Want some spicy toss on some hot sauce!

Tomorrow I'm making "korean BBQ" bowls, shredded zucchini, shredded carrots, onions, spinach, grilled chicken, sauteed and cooked with some sriracha and then toss a fried egg on top and BAM! I'm drooling just thinking of it now! :)

You have to expand your recipes :)

Healthy food doesn't have to be bland, boring or salad! There are tons of great recipes on here for all tastes and ability levels. Check out some healthy recipe sites like Green Lite Bites, Skinny Taste, Cooking Light and more. Go to your local library and start borrowing healthy cooking books. Try at least one new recipe every week. And start building up your herb/spice collection! Roast some veggies with a bit of olive oil, rosemary and thyme and see if you still think healthy food has no taste!

If you want a burger, go for a Bison burger. It's something that i recently discovered. It is SUPER SUPER lean and it sits so lightly in the tummy. You should try it!

I hate salads. HATE THEM. I have probably eaten 3 salads since I started this journey 2 years ago.

You have to find healthy foods that you enjoy. Go to the grocery store, poke around the outer rims and try new things. Look up recipes online.

Another thing you could do is try to re-invent your favorite "non-healthy" foods. If you like cheeseburgers, try making turkey burgers with spices in them. Look up a recipe for baked sweet potato fries.

The Hungry Girl website has a lot of food swaps that could be useful.

Or you could just use beef, but choose leaner beef, cook a smaller patty, and eat it open-faced (just taking off half the bun saves on calories without diminishing the taste of the burger).

Eating healthy doesn't mean cutting out burgers. It means finding ways to make burgers work for you, not against you. Whether you do that by using leaner ingredients, eating a smaller portion, or some combination of both is up to you.

I used to think of meals like the solar system--there was a massive portion of the stuff I liked most in the center surrounded by a few tiny satellite side dishes. Learning proportion helped immensely; now I eat a modest (but delicious) burger with three or four vegetable-rich sides instead of a massive burger on a plate containing nothing green but the pickle.

I must be doing this "dieting" thing wrong. Cause I had a hamburger AND Olive Garden last week and still lost 1.8 lbs.
For me, its about planning, looking up calorie counts and fitting it into my day. I went to Olive Garden on a date with my SO. We had it planned. I looked up the points (or calories if you will) for options that I liked. From there, I planned my day backwards so that meal took the bulk of my calories. Granted, I didn't get to order absolutely anything on the menu and I avoided the bread-sticks like the plague. But I was still happy at the end of the day.

Having a burger was the result of just having a naturally low-calorie day. My breakfast was smaller than expected, because we ran out of Peanut butter. My lunch was mostly veggies because they were just about to go bad. So I had a lot of calories left at the end of the day and a burger sounded good. It fit, I was happy and the day moved on.

But both meals were possible because I planned for them. I was careful with my ordering and I made it fit into the low calorie plan. It doesn't have to be all salads or all eating out...its about planning and making smart choices.

I HARDLY ever eat salads and there is so much to choose from and I enjoy all my meals like the others have said you have many choices. For starters MEAT MEAT MEAT!! I back and boil never fry my meats and there are sooooo many things you can do with chicken. I also eat sandwiches a lot cold cuts with a slice of cheese because I hardly cook. Yogurt, nuts, the list goes on and on.

Ok, but why do you eat only salads and food with little taste? I always enjoy my food - it may not be everybody's taste but I think it's quite tasty. Give me some examples of what you cook and with what ingredients. I am sure we can find a way of how to improve the taste.

Dutch Oven!!! My best friend. I can not eat any gluten; limits a whole food group and my choices. Therefore I have become creative with soups and stews. They are easier to make than you think.

I usually have a large variety in my freezer; I don't get bored :)

If you think eating healthy is boring, you may not be eating healthy. Healthy really is about variety. And thre's an endless variety of healthy foods that can fit into a reduced calorie diet.

If you go to the grocery store with the adventuring spirit of an explorer, you'll find thousands and thousands of interesting foods you've never tried before. If you also go into gourmet, import, and ethnic markets you can find even more.

I could write more than one book on the healthy foods I've tried for the first time just during this weight loss attempt (if I counted all the ones I've tried in the last 45 years, I might be able to write a small encyclopedia set).

This morning I made a blood orange slushie with Diet Rite Splenda sweetened sparkling lemonade, ice cubes, and a peeled blood orange (an orange that looks like a normal orange on the outside, but has has red or purple red flesh and tastes like a sweet conventional orange, but with a hint of raspberry-like flavor Yummy).

Trying new foods, especially fruits and vegetables is my new food passion. I've tried grains and starchy veggies too, but those do require some cooking skills. Most fruits are best eaten raw, and the veggies usually don't need any more complicated preparation than rinsing and possibly peeling and/or microwaving.

Now eating a burger does sound boring. I still crave them during TOM, but I know what a burger tastes like. Trying something I've never eaten before, now that's interesting.

I've had some unpleasant experiences, but I'd rather taste something horrible than taste something I've had a thousand times. More often than not, I was pleasantly surprised, even at some of the weirdest sounding stuff.

For example, one of my weirdest loves is squid jerky (I call it that. It's actually called prepared squid in oriental groceries where I find it). It's kind of pretty - it looks like shreds of dried chicken only it's pink. It's not uber-healthy because of the salt and sometimes sugar added to the marinade, but it's low-calorie, low-fat, and usually very low-carb (even if sugar is a listed ingredient).

It smells kind of fishy (hubby hates it, so the cat and I enjoy it when he's out), but it tastes only a little fishy and very sweet. It's really good in a salad as a flavor puncher too (I let it marinade in the salad dressing for a few minutes before mixing the salad to soften the squid jerky). It's also super good mixed into low-fat cream cheese as a cheesespread for veggies.

Eggplant - always thought I hated it. Found out I only hated the big ones. Slim, long or small,oval oriental ones I love, especially roasted.

Actually almost every veggie I've roasted has been amazing. I shake the sliced veggies in a ziploc bag with just a bit of oil and seasonings (my favorite is dry ranch dressing mix powder) and then roast around 400 degrees (starchy or denser veggies can roast higher and longer, but if I've never roasted a veggie before I always start at 400 and 20 minutes). I like to roast them until the edges are getting black and the veggies are very tender. Except snap peas, thouse I like wiht some crunch still left to them.

I could go on and on for hours. And I have if I counted all my food posts here and on my 3FC Blog. The Shoestring forum is really good for recipes (and as a bonus, they're cheap).

I agree with everyone else. My food is delicious, fairly varied, and full of flavor! And hamburgers is something we have for dinner every couple weeks -- I fire up the grill in the middle of winter. LOVE my food!

I hate salads and most of the people in this thread seem to also. The only ones I actually like are taco salads.

Cooking healthy can be easy and delicious! Just now for lunch, I stir-fried a chicken breast with a frozen veggie mix of zucchini, squash, and broccoli, added a couple of teaspoons of a commercial stir-fry mix and a few drizzles of soy sauce. After that I covered it and let it simmer until the veggies were done and the sauce was thick. It was easy and delicious.

If you like pizza, you could make your own crusts with whole-wheat flour and top it with light cheese, turkey pepperoni, olives, onions, or other veggies. If you like burgers, you could choose turkey or lean beef, season+mix your own patties and eat it wrapped in lettuce or like another poster suggested, open-faced.

Please don't get discouraged because you're not losing weight. You just need to stick with it and the pounds will come off! Try to track your calories more closely because you may be eating more than you think you are.

Before I gave up wheat, I would use flour tortillas as pizza crusts. I'd top them with pizza sauce and a tiny amount of asiago cheese and veggie toppings (mushroom, onion, and bell pepper are must toppers for me).

For a crisper crust, you can bake the tortillas for a few minutes before putting on the toppings.

Now I use corn tortillas. The texture and flavor isn't quite as good as the wheat, and (in my opinion) they have to be crisped up before putting the toppings on.

I like stronger flavored cheeses because a little goes a long way. You can save calories and get more flavor, by using less of a stronger cheese, than more of a reduced fat one.

Use a tortilla, pita or Flat Out wrap as the base.
Top with lean proteins, veggies, sauce, pesto, salsa, whatever you like.
Use a lighter hand with cheese - add cheese for flavor rather than to make a thick, gooey layer of fat. Use cheeses like old/sharp cheddar, asiago or Monterrey jack.

There are also a number of frozen pizza makers that are starting to make healthier options like whole grain crusts or flatbread style crusts. I have been known to turn to these to help satisfy the need for pizza without completely blowing my plan. You may want to look for the Dr. Oetker Casa Di Mama pizzas or the Delissio Flatbreads.

I like salads. But I put a lot of things in my salads, including goat cheese, figs, cranberries, apples, crushed sugared pecans/walnuts/almonds, and my protein on the salad is usually marinated to an inch of it's life and then grilled. Oh, it's so yummy. I hate boring salads.

There's tons of options and if the tortilla pizzas don't work for you, there's always English Muffin mini-pizzas, which are great portion control and good lunch if you want it.

Pizza, IMO, is actually one of the easiest things to cook a healthy alternative for. Simple whole wheat pita with tomato sauce and measured out shredded low-fat cheese with your favourite toppings, pop it in the oven at 350 for 10 minutes and you are done.

Nobody needs to eat salad or boring to lose weight. Healthy slim people generally eat all sorts of yummy foods, including Olive Garden if they want, but with smaller portion sizes and/or less frequency.

You are eating the wrong foods then. I find I savor my meals and enjoy the taste so much MORE when being mindful and eating healthy. I don't eat anything I do not enjoy. Find healthy foods that you love. I so look forward to getting out of bed to eat what has became my "usual" breakfast, 1/2 cup 0% Fage yogurt, 1 tsp brown sugar, a piece of fruit, and 13 almonds. It feels like dessert for breakfast and it very satisfying. And lunch and dinner just get better.....today chicken fajita for lunch with a salad, and for dinner cabbage and 2 meatballs with red sauce with half a large potato. Still 200 calories left for snack....hmmmm Chocolate with sea salt or an apple with skinny cow? I haven't decided.

Pizza can be made awesome with very little effort. I went through a major pizza kick about a month into my weight loss and dropped eight pounds that month, so I can attest to the magnificence of a good pizza. :D

If you want a super-skinny pizza or are watching carbs, follow the great suggestions here to use a Flat-Out wrap or tortilla as the crust. If you're counting calories and aren't carb-sensitive, buy a pre-fab thin crust (I think Boboli makes some, though I haven't looked) or make your own thin-crust dough recipe (this is what I do).

You can save a few calories on the sauce if you make sure to buy a product with no sugar added or make your own.

I use real cheese because fake cheese makes me genuinely sad. Weigh your cheese out because it's likely the most caloric thing on your pizza aside from the crust itself. Whoever suggested using strongly flavored cheese more sparingly instead of a whole lot of bland, blah cheese is right--a couple of pinches of mozzarella and some grated parmigiano reggiano is WAY better than a layer of plastic goo.

Use veggies. LOTS of veggies. Cover your pizza with them. They'll fill you, they'll nourish you, and they'll taste good. There's no excuse for a veggie-less pizza.

While I don't recommend eating out a lot, it is possible to eat things other than salads when you go to restaurants.

Speaking of Olive Garden, I actually went there on Sunday. I had a delicious seafood stew with two pieces of toasted bread that had about 400 calories. Get creative. Do a burger "lettuce wrapped" with no mayo....you'd be surprised how delicious it is. Plan ahead when you go out to eat. Most restaurants have nutrition information online. If you have a plan before you get there, you are less likely to be tempted....don't even open the menu! lol

Experiment. No one eats the same exact foods for the rest of their life.

You can make pretty much anything healthier, so there's no reason to think eating healthy is boring! Eating the same salad every single day is boring, yes, but that's not necessarily eating healthy. Have a look around the recipe threads here like others have suggested, Google for recipe blogs and websites, find a low-calorie cook book (I like the Cook Yourself Thin and Hungry Girl ones), etc. If you like pizza, you can have pizza. Just a smaller portion with healthier toppings. Same with burgers and fries and pasta and muffins and any other food it is you love. If there's a food you really love to eat and you're not sure how to make it over, just put it into Google and tack on "low-calorie/healthy/sugar-free/etc. recipe" and you'll be sure to find something that will work for you.

Also, it may take some time to see a drop in the scale. What kind of plan are you on? If it's less of a plan and more just "eat healthy", that may be the problem, as you can still overeat or eat the wrong foods when you think you're eating "healthy".
