THE FOUR EMOTIONS THAT CAN LEAD TO LIFE CHANGE
by Jim Rohn (excerpted from "Seven Strategies for Wealth and Happiness")

Emotions are the most powerful forces inside us. Under the power of emotions, human beings can perform the most heroic (as well as barbaric) acts. To a great degree, civilization itself can be defined as the intelligent channeling of human emotion. Emotions are fuel and the mind is the pilot, which together propel the ship of civilized progress.

Which emotions cause people to act? There are four basic ones; each, or a combination of several, can trigger the most incredible activity. The day that you allow these emotions to fuel your desire is the day you'll turn your life around.

1) DISGUST

One does not usually equate the word "disgust" with positive action. And yet properly channeled, disgust can change a person's life. The person who feels disgusted has reached a point of no return. He or she is ready to throw down the gauntlet at life and say, "I've had it!" That's what I said after many humiliating experiences at age 25, I said. "I don't want to live like this anymore. I've had it with being broke. I've had it with being embarrassed, and I've had it with lying."

Yes, productive feelings of disgust come when a person says, "Enough is enough."

The "guy" has finally had it with mediocrity. He's had it with those awful sick feelings of fear, pain and humiliation. He then decides he is not going to live like this anymore." Look out! This could be the day that turns a life around. Call it what you will, the "I've had it" day, the "never again" day, the "enough's enough" day. Whatever you call it, it's powerful! There is nothing so life-changing as gut-wrenching disgust!

2) DECISION

Most of us need to be pushed to the wall to make decisions. And once we reach this point, we have to deal with the conflicting emotions that come with making them. We have reached a fork in the road. Now this fork can be a two-prong, three-prong, or even a four-prong fork. No wonder that decision-making can create knots in stomachs, keep us awake in the middle of the night, or make us break out in a cold sweat.

Making life-changing decisions can be likened to internal civil war. Conflicting armies of emotions, each with its own arsenal of reasons, battle each other for supremacy of our minds. And our resulting decisions, whether bold or timid, well thought out or impulsive, can either set the course of action or blind it. I don't have much advice to give you about decision-making except this:

Whatever you do, don't camp at the fork in the road. Decide. It's far better to make a wrong decision than to not make one at all. Each of us must confront our emotional turmoil and sort out our feelings.

3) DESIRE

How does one gain desire? I don't think I can answer this directly because there are many ways. But I do know two things about desire:

a. It comes from the inside not the outside.
b. It can be triggered by outside forces.

Almost anything can trigger desire. It's a matter of timing as much as preparation. It might be a song that tugs at the heart. It might be a memorable sermon. It might be a movie, a conversation with a friend, a confrontation with the enemy, or a bitter experience. Even a book or an article such as this one can trigger the inner mechanism that will make some people say, "I want it now!"

Therefore, while searching for your "hot button" of pure, raw desire, welcome into your life each positive experience. Don't erect a wall to protect you from experiencing life. The same wall that keeps out your disappointment also keeps out the sunlight of enriching experiences. So let life touch you. The next touch could be the one that turns your life around.

4) RESOLVE

Resolve says, "I will." These two words are among the most potent in the English language. I WILL. Benjamin Disraeli, the great British statesman, once said, "Nothing can resist a human will that will stake even its existence on the extent of its purpose." In other words, when someone resolves to "do or die," nothing can stop him.

The mountain climber says, "I will climb the mountain. They've told me it's too high, it's too far, it's too steep, it's too rocky, it's too difficult. But it's my mountain. I will climb it. You'll soon see me waving from the top or you'll never see me, because unless I reach the peak, I'm not coming back." Who can argue with such resolve?

When confronted with such iron-will determination, I can see Time, Fate and Circumstance calling a hasty conference and deciding, "We might as well let him have his dream. He's said he's going to get there or die trying."

The best definition for "resolve" I've ever heard came from a schoolgirl in Foster City, California. As is my custom, I was lecturing about success to a group of bright kids at a junior high school. I asked, "Who can tell me what "resolve" means?" Several hands went up, and I did get some pretty good definitions. But the last was the best. A shy girl from the back of the room got up and said with quiet intensity, "I think resolve means promising yourself you will never give up." That's it! That's the best definition I've ever heard: PROMISE YOURSELF YOU'LL NEVER GIVE UP.

Think about it! How long should a baby try to learn how to walk? How long would you give the average baby before you say, "That's it, you've had your chance"? You say that's crazy? Of course it is. Any mother would say, "My baby is going to keep trying until he learns how to walk!" No wonder everyone walks.

There is a vital lesson in this. Ask yourself, "How long am I going to work to make my dreams come true?" I suggest you answer, "As long as it takes." That's what these four emotions are all about.

To Your Success,
Jim Rohn

*************
PUT YOURSELF INTO IT

The value of what you do will depend on the value you put into it. Success is determined not so much by what it is you do as by the passion and meaning you put into it.

In any field of endeavor that you can imagine, there are those people who enjoy astounding success as well as those who are downright miserable. And if you look closely you'll see that the difference very often is determined by what they each put into what they do.

Whatever is to be done, whether it is a phone conversation, a career, a day at the beach, or a routine task, it is an opportunity for you to contribute something of yourself. And by doing so in a positive, creative and enthusiastic way, you can bring about real, lasting value.

To get something out of it, to make something valuable of it, whatever it may be, put the best of yourself into it. Rather than worrying that life has dealt you a lousy hand, set about to play that hand exquisitely and in your own special way.

Every moment of every day, whatever the situation, is an opportunity for you to add value to your world. Put something good and useful into it, something uniquely you. Put yourself into it and you'll find delight, enjoyment, and fulfillment in what becomes of it.

Good Morning! A new week, a new month! Woo hoo!

This is the last week of my six week confinement. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow, and I hope he tells me I can go full speed ahead. I am so far behind, it is going to take me until June to catch up!

I am experimenting this week. I am eating no starches, and watching the amounts of carbs I eat. I am curious to see if the medications I am taking make a difference with the lower carbs. I figure it will be good for me to eat mainly protein and veggies for a week, and get out of the habit of eating everything in sight...even if it is legal. Quantity seems to be a problem with me lately. It is so hard to eat only 18 of the oat bran pretzels, or one piece of ww bread with a sandwich, etc. I am hoping getting off that stuff for a while will help reduce the desire for it.

I got a terrible migraine last night ...in church. I get the aura and it was awful, and lasted 45 minutes at least. My dear hubby even got me a cup of coffee to see if it would help. I think it did, but not a lot! Really bad migraines like that have lingering side effects on me, and I am still feeling a bit woozy from it, as well as every joint and muscle aching too. I am going to sleep more this morning, in hopes that will help. At least the headache part is not as bad as usual. Perhaps the coffee helped that.

Be back later!

Good Monday Morning Everyone:wave:

Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving and a good weekend!:D

Just got in from my walk/jog. It was one of those I DUN WANNA GO days this morning, but as I know, if I don't go out on Monday I not only don't feel good but it seems to screw up my entire week, so out I went and surprisingly had a pretty good time that I haven't seen in a while, under 50 minutes! It was 49:55 to do my 4.5 miles-not only was I surprised, happy as well:D

As soon as I cool down I'm jumping in the shower and going shopping this morning. I haven't bought anything for ELI but do have a list of items I want to get him so I'm going to tackle that today, then basically, I'm done. Still have one big thing to get for Lauren which I haven't decided upon yet.

Scale is back up to 129 today, but not fretting about it, mid-cycle is almost here and this is normal:shrug:

MONET, good luck at the Dr.'s today! I would say, if you are going to eat a SB LEGAL starchy carb to make it something filling that will hold you for a while, like oatmeal or a piece of bread like I bought at Harry's, not the SF SGWW Natures Own. The pretzels are a great snack but 18 of those wouldn't fill anyone up and I don't think it's worth the carbs, well, only once in a while. I think if you watch your total intake in all areas, keep the carbs to 1-2 a day, you'll probably find it helpful. It's worth a try if you want to eat no carbs as long as you are eating enough of everything else and it doesn't affect your health. I've tried doing it myself and it didn't seem to help any, but as you know, we are all different!;)

Okay, I hear the big boy is up-gonna run. Will check in later!

Good morning everyone! I didn't get a chance to post during the long week-end but it looks like most everyone stayed OP pretty much with a couple of strays. I have to say that I was a stray. I ate way bad on Thanksgiving, dressing, pie and rolls and then was on again off again the rest of the week-end. I didn't exercise except we moved my mother on Friday. Surely that counts for something (weight-lifting maybe?). She moved to a retirement apartment that is much closer to us and much nicer. I really think she'll be much happier there.

We found a great oriental place on Friday night. I think they're a chain and not sure if any of you have them or not, it's called Mongolian Grille. When you walk in, they have kind of a salad bar set up where you grab a bowl and pick out all the veggies that you want, then you get your choice of chicken beef or pork. Then you go through and make your own sauce. They have suggestions on what to put in: soy, garlic, hot sauce, etc. You then give the whole thing to a guy and he stir frys it for you. They use very little oil because it's on this giant heated iron disk looking thing. It was very good.

I did a little Christmas shopping yesterday and we got our tree up. Can you believe how little time there is between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year? I really need to get a move on.

I've got to get to work now. See you guys later. Oh, yeah, I almost forgot, I'm coming to the SB get-together. Yippee!!!!

Bring the wagon on by and scoop me up.:yikes:Thanksgiving was great but the eating was not. We went to my MIL's Thursday and my mom's on Sat. and I was waaaay bad both places. The scale is up 4 lbs this morning from last Wed.:o I'm determined to get back on the wagon and stay there.

Got most of my shopping done. I'm going with my mom and sister Sat to finish up.

Oops. Kids in the hall. Gotta go.

Happy Monday

Boy I sure don't feel like I have had 4 days off. Run, run, run.
I did shop a little Friday with my girls. Then home to decorate the house out and in. ALmost done. It was just too windy to finish up outside this weekend. Hopefully tonight. I need to get organized with my shopping. Don't know if I'm coming or going. What I've spent and what I need to buy. I hate that sinking feeling.

TG was fine. My dinner consisted of turkey and green beans & a small pc of Deb's cheesecake. So that was 100% OP. Friday I did have some breaded chicken wings. But only 1 other carb for the day. So that wasn't too bad. Yesterday we went to the Colts game in Indianapolis. Ate legally, just way too much food. I was miserable all day and nite. The couple we went to insited on taking us to St. Elmos. It is pretty posh like a Ruth Chris for any who have those. Glad he was paying. I would have only been able to pay for the salad. The food was good, but I couldn't appreciate it as I really wasn't hundry from the lunch we had. Oh well, salads for me this week.

I have missed being on the boards for 4 days. But doesn't seem like it was too busy. Glad to be back to normal. I need routine.

Monet, Sorry about your migraine. Isn't that the second one in a week or so? Maybe some of your meds are triggering it. Good luck with the no carbs this week. That is tough to do. Hope the Dr. sets you free.

Deb, Boy am I jealous. Almost done with your shopping. I don't even know where I'm at. I need to get organized. It was on 30 this morning, just couldn't drag myself out of the bed to walk. I hate this cold weather (how many times have I said that so far and it's only Dec). I'm afraid with all the holiday goings on, that my exercising will take a back seat. So I have to get organized so I can get it all worked in.

Bob, I asked you all to be gentle. Boy I thoughjt it might be close too. Typical for the cats though. There's always next year. Congrats.

Trish, that 4 lbs will be gone in no time. Mostly water gain. Good luck. I'm way behind in Christmas stuff too! Help :yikes:

Music, You peoplke who are done shopping make me feel worse. What little I have is still in bags and I need to sort it all out.

Busy at work so I had better get going. Later.

I am one hungry moma this morning. I must be all well now. :)

Gracious...600 for the month isn't bad at all. I spend around 500 for a family of 6. And they eat like kings. That includes the things you don't eat also like..dish soap..tp...ect. Too bad you can't get the triple coupons..or at least doubles. When I get good coupons I get it down to around 300 for the month.

Deb...you go girl. You are so faithful to your working out. I know I have got to start back...but burrrrrrr...it's so hard to get out in the chilly weather.

Beth....hang in there....those pounds will start sliding off once you get back OP.

Music.....it's water weight...bet it's gone in no time.

Gotta run....((((Everybody)))))

Hello, everyone... I'm new to this forum--Thanks Debbie for your e-mails. I've been reading your posts for a week, and figure it's time to jump in. A little intro--I'm a 41-yr.-old teacher and I live in Boynton Beach, FL. I'm between West Palm & Ft. Lauderdale. I've been married almost 20 years and have 3 wonderful teens (12, 15, 17). I've been overweight most of my adult life--I'm short (only 5'2"), so 160 looks like a lot more. A year ago I put on even more weight--up to 182. Last summer I went on the Atkins Diet and lost 22#. I really liked it, and felt so much better about myself. Problem is--I stalled: BIG time. I went 4 months without losing more pounds or inches. I'm not sure, but I think it's the fat in the Atkins Diet. It's very high--I ate a lot less fat than most Atkids, and I was at around 130 g/day! Of course, any Atkid would deny that's what caused the stall, but ...well, jury is still out. Anyway, I have read 5 Low carb woe books by different authors, and this last week started SB. I am keeping my starchy carbs down to 2 servings a day. I'm watching calories too, I'm between 1200-1400. On Thanksgiving, I ate a little of everything--legal & not. (I justified it by saying, "I'm starting SB on Friday", LOL! Well--I'm THRILLED to announce that I've lost 3 lbs.!!! I haven't seen 157 on the scale for years! I am soooo happy! I know not to expect fast wt. loss. I'll be thrilled with .5 - 1 # a week! I'd like to reach my goal by Summer. My stats are 182/157/140. I may lower my goal to 135--I'll wait & see.
I chose Dairy Queen for my name because I love dairy! Could be a downfall... I try not to indulge too much--but oh do I love my SF Vanilla Latte a couple times a week! Well, I've gotta go for now--class time!

DAIRY: Welcome fellow teacher.:) What do you teach? I have general music K-3. They are a wild bunch today. I think you'll find that SB is a much more reasonable WOE than Atkins.

COUNTRY: Water weight???? Are you kidding? No, it's dressing, and chocolate pie?:eek:Glad you're feeling better.

JACKIE: Let me clarify my shopping statement. I have most of it on lay-a-way at WalMart.

TRISH: I love Mongolian BarBQ. I haven't been to one in forever tho. How 'bout those HORNS???? My Aggie niece wouldn't even talk about it Sat when we were at my Mom's.

MONET: Keep taking it easy.

DEBBIE: Bring by the wagon. I'll try to hang on this time.

WHO'S DRIVING THE WAGON????????

STOP BY SOLSHINE'S AND USE THE INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH SEAT-BELT, PLEASE!!!!

OKAY, back to the "old" normal of eating on plan and planning ahead to be able to do it! Twas a nice TD, though and I really enjoyed the extra long week-end.

BOB - I made the KITTY LITTER Cake and it was a total hit!!! Everyone was amazed at how it looked exactly like kitty litter and humored with the idea. The gals couldn't wait to try it and the guys were very reluctant to eat anything that looked like kitty litter, even if it was real food. THANK YOU!!!

GATORGAL I'm sorry your guys lost - REALLY!! :s: I saw that people were giving Zook a hard time and how much trouble he was having filling Spurrier's shoes that I wanted him to win to shut them up.

GRACIOUS and COUNTRY - You guys only spend 500-600/'month on groceries? Is that what I read?!? Meister and I eat pretty much every meal at or from home...b'fast, lunch and dinner. I spend about 200/WEEK at our local Publix. I buy "Wal-Mart" stuff there, too, but that shouldn't make that much difference. What am I doing wrong?!? Based on your budgets I should be able to feed us on less than 100/week.

SPEEDY Lemme tell you, Girlfriend....don't EVER be dating or married to a cop and get a speeding ticket! I'd rather pay the ticket than have him find out about it! Not that I speak from experience, mind you..... :o )

DAIRY - WELCOME!! SB is the WOE to follow if for no other reason than this wonderful group of gals (and Daramus) right here! It truly is reasonable and "doable" for life and I don't think Atkins is. You're in FL - we're all meeting in O-town to watch DEB kick boo-tee in the WDW Half Marathon in January. You'll have to mark that on your calendar so you can meet all these great gals in person!

MONET I sure hope the Dr. gives you license to PAR-TAY!! Can you do like we do when we've missed the board for a while and just call "starting from here" and ignore all the things you're behind on? :^: I sure wish life was like that!

DEBBIE - What did you burn this year?? :D We bought wine to serve with our meal and Vinice and I were the only ones who drank it! :o

MARIE - I tried to e-mail you a coupla times and got it back. Have you changed your addy? I've been lazy and didn't look to see if it's in your profile, though.

We've got 2 temps at work and I've been training them on some very simple tasks all morning. It's a lot of steps and you have to pay attention to detail, but it's very simple. They aren't getting it and I'm getting very frustrated with all the interruptions. I've taken my computer and hidden in an empty office just so's I can have some peace and quiet for a little while. I think I'll just stay here the rest of the day and let my supervisor (who has also mysteriously disappeared) deal with them. AAAAAaaaarrrrrgggghhhh!

Okay, venting over.....and so's me lunch break.

Its been a quiet day! I am supposed to be doing some telephoning about my car. I better get that done before my husband gets home! The brake lights stick on, then the battery runs down and the car won't start. Its a pain...the brake light switch is only a year old, but is obviously defective, and the place that put it on will not fix it for free. We have to fork out the $$ to fix it. sigh.

GRACIOUS and COUNTRY: Don't you DARE tell my hubby you feed your families on $500 to $600 a month! He will cut my budget faster than a top spins! I spend about $200 a week, for everything. Now Gracious, I am sure you spend more during the month on the perishables. Do tell...what is the final $$ for the whole month by the time you have gotten milk, and bread and the 'stuff you forgot'? We go through three to four gallons of milk a week here, and at $2.50 a gallon, well, it adds up. I will admit we are a bit gourmandish and picky. I spend the extra $ for organic eggs, butter and half and half, and my hubby eats a lot of high quality protein as a body builder should.... But do tell..how do you get all the healthy SB stuff and keep the overall costs down?

GLORY: I am so sorry about your SIL. I hope you can make it through all the services and such without any problem. It was great that you had a good time for your anniversary!

DAIRY: Welcome! We are really glad you are here! Just jump right in!

SOL: I think I better try and catch up with stuff...tho my natural inclination is to say, so what? With the Christmas coming up, I will be miserable if I don't get a grip. My hubby and daughter just did what had to be done..so not much cleaning happened for the last six weeks. Adding decorations and a tree to the mess does not excite me!

JACK: No, I did not have a migraine..my daughter did. This one was the first in a few months. They seem to be cyclic though. They also seem to be getting worse. Hormones I am sure!

MUSIC: I really would like to continue to take it easy, but I think I no longer have an excuse! Isn't that sad?? I will work into activity slowly tho...Thanksgiving I did too much, and was exhausted! I don't want to feel that way again!

CHRIS: If you have trouble with cravings, I have heard drinking a big glass of water helps. Let me know if you try it and it helps! I have been trying that, and it seems to be working some for me.

About shopping...I'm what you call a stocker. If it's on sale I buy more than most would think they need. Example...this week TP was on sale for .49 cents at K-Mart. So I bought a case...no, I didn't need it yet..I still had part of another case but how can you pass that up that price. And I use coupons when they come out. Last week brown rice coupons came in the paper so my rice was only .4 cents a bag! I was thrilled. If it's not on sale I might only buy one bag on occassion. It broke my my heart yesterday to pay 1.49 for an eighteen count of eggs...last time I bought 8 dozen at .49 each.

Monet...I wish I could get milk for 2.50 a gallon. It's went up to 2.99 ugh. One way I make up for the price of milk is with can milk.

I don't get to spend a lot on fresh stuff during the winter but in summer I go to town. *smile*

Any way..that's how I do it...nothing fancy. Just a sale shopper...coupons and stocking up.

Oh and before I forget...I cook like crazy!!!! *smile* My kids are home schooled so I cook three times a day...seven days a week. I usually cook enough for a small army...LOL We don't eat out except maybe once every three months or so.

Love,
Crystle

Just a quickie as I run out the door,

Country, Glad you are feeling better. cAN YOU COME COOK FOR ME?

Dairy Queen, Welcome. This is a great board for support and friendship. SB is a great way of eating too. Remember slow is the key. Hang in there and good luck. Looking forward to getting to know you.

Music, at least you have something on lay-away.

Solshine, I feel for you training temps. Things you do on a daily basis and do w/o thinking become major problems for them. No fun.

Glory, So glad you had a wonderful anniversary. So sorry about your SIL. This is such a bad time of year for those things to be happening. Try not to give in to emotional eating.

Chris, Welcome back, you came back when I couldn't get on here. Glad you found your way back to us. That 5 lbs will be gone in no time. lucky you only 5 to lose. CHew some SF gum to get you through.

Monet, I had you had DD confused on the miagraines. It's H**l being a woman isn't it? Ease back easily. Don't overdo. All this talk about groceries, buying all that fruit really adds up quickly. At least you can cut out the junk foods. There is only 3 of us at home and I spend almost $600 a month. I try not to but that includes soap, detergent, shampoo, etc.

Have a great evening everyone.

Jackie

EVENING EVERY BUDDY!!!

BOB just got home from a two hour visit with the DR  Nothing wrong, my Dr just linkes to take his time! He's very laid back and will talk to you about anything you need to! My friend who had the appointment after me had to reschedule for another day..He wants me to start niaspan and metamucil for my triglycerides and cholesterol. I used this once before and had good results.
He was pleased with my weight loss and of course wants me to keep up the good progress :D He wasn't too keen on the red meat that I eat in quantity, but for right now it's working and hes said to keep doing what I'm doing.
I have to go back in three months and he will do blood work to check all my levels. All in all...a good visit!

DAIRY...WELCOME...good to have you..you'll get all the advise here whether you want it or not!

CHRIS...welcome back..stick around this time..we don't bite!

MONET...ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO BE OUT OF BED????

GLORY...sorry about your Dear SIL..keep your strength and youl'll get through this.
Glad you had a good time on your HONEYMOON ;)

JACKIE...DECORATED OUTSIDE???? you are on the ball..glad you got to spend some time with your DD's..

DEB...ELI???? GIFTS?????

SOL....SO GLAD the cake was a hit...it served it's meaning if the guys were afraid to eat it!

COUNTRY...I'm right there with you about the stocking up thing.
I'm bad to do that and people question why!! I can't explain it, but if it's a good deal WHY NOT???

MUSIC & TRISH...glad you both had a good TURKEY DAY...
Just listen for those wonderful strands of ROCKY TOP and you'll know that the wagon is just around the corner!

Better get up from here and get some stuff done!

;) Hi all! I guess I didn't do too bad for Thanksgiving. Enjoyed the day at my db's house with his family, my ds & her family & 2 of my 3 girls were there also. Didn't over eat too bad, but haven't really got bad on plan either as yesterday we took dd, sil & gs to eat out after church. Ate Chinese. Then we had our monthly first Sunday Supper at church last night & ate too much there but not bad stuff, just too much period.

Today 2 of my ds' & I took our Mom out shopping & for lunch & guess whee we ended up eating! Right, Chinese again. I'd better quit all this or else I'm going to be really sorry come Jan.

However, I did do something positive. I bought a set of 3 DVD's, Walk the Walk by Leslie Sansone. It has the Miracle Mile Walk, the 2 mile walk, & weight loss walk. Fixing to get started with the first one & work my way up.

Monet, good luck with your dr's appt tomorrow. Hope he gives you the ok to get back to normal living again. Looking forward to meeting you in Jan!!

Rosalie, nice to hear from you. Yes, I did enjoy my visit with the family very much. Are you still working some or have you retire completely. I see that you are sure keeping yourself busy.

Jack-K, sometimes I wish that I could just take an early retirement. LOL It hard to get back to work when you've had 4 great days off.

Dairy, Welcome to the board!!! Glad you decided to join us. Best of luck to you with tis WOE.

Glory, so nice to have you back on the board with us!! Happy Belated Anniversary!

Country, what a great shopper you are. Brown rice for .04 cents, wow!! I like savings like that. The problem I have with coupons is that I forget them home or wait too long & they expire with me. LOL

Debbie, good for you getting out there for your walk today. I should have done that instead of sleeping in this morning. I just can't seem to get back in the swing of walking, that's why I bought those DVD's in hopes that it will get me going again. Have not forgotten about emailing you my itinerary, just haven't made the time yet. I will do that next, I promise! :D

Well, got to go. The boys have not started their homework yet & I guess I'd better see to it. dd & dh will both be home soon so I have to get a few things done. Will try to post again tomorrow.

Well, I have taken ill....I woke up on Thanksgiving Day with the most horrible head cold ever. Debbie got it, Amber got it, Gary got it and now I have it. UGH!! Camping with a severe head cold is not a great experience if you know what I mean. Today, I am still sick and have been trying to get stuff done at work today. Besides being sick anyway, I stayed legal all along.

Last night after we got back in town, Gary and I had to go visit his Grandmother who is dying. She is 94 and is now in hospice. She was supposed to pass in the night, but is still alive today. We prayed for her and I talked with Gary so that he could remember all the good things she had done for him when he was little. So now we wait and hope that God takes her soon. I've read everyone's post since last Wed, so here goes:

Debbie: Happy Chanukkah! It's weird that Chanukkah started the day after Thanksgiving for you. Did Lauren like her bracelet? Way to go on staying on plan. I knew you would. You have discipline like no other...Thank you for posting the SD stuffing recipe. It looks wonderful. I also like the starchy carb serving guide you posted. That should help me. It sounds like your pumpkin pie and cranberry sauce was a hit. I'm very proud of you and I'm very proud that you actually got out there and exercised on Thanksgiving day. Wow!!!!!!!:strong: I also liked your Day after Thanksgiving joke. I haven't seen that one yet. Congrats on getting your new HP computer. I have an HP and they are the best in my opinion. You still have not had ONE of Lauren's cookies? Good for you!!!!! You got a great deal on that digital memory card. I need a bigger memory chip for mine too. That's awesome that your Aunt made a beef tenderloin IN addition to the Turkey. She must be one **** of a cook!! By the way, What is the Detox Dungeon?????????

Glory: Sorry to hear about your SIL...I'm very sad for you. Death is so unexpected at times and we can never understand why it has to happen. I'm glad that you got to enjoy a wonderful Anniversary with your husband. It sounded truly fabulous and romantic!:flow1: Also, congrats on losing those 5 lbs. I'm an emotional eater too, so try to find comfort for your loss with something else. I'm all out of ideas cause I feel so sad for Gary's Grandmother right now... Maybe someone else on here can help you....I will keep you in my prayers...

Monet: Glad that this is your last week of confinement!! It sounds like you had a feast and a loving cook of a husband to help you out. Good for you!!;) Hope your headache is gone now and yes, why don't you just post that recipe for the Yorkshire pudding. I'm curious now... Also, let me know how it goes when you cut out all starchy carbs as I can't seem to do that!!!

Sabrina and Serene: Congratulations on a job well done. It sounds like you both have holiday dinners WELL UNDER CONTROL!!

Crystle: I always feel fat and bloated almost everyday. I'm right there with you. If it was the stomach flu, you will be feeling better in no time. I hope you feel better for your birthday on Saturday. Have a great Birthday!!:gift:

Bob: Congrats on being down 2 more lbs. They just keep coming off and coming off and coming off!!!

Shirley: As always, you've got some funny jokes to share and thanks for sharing them with all of us!

Gracious: I have to go grocery shopping tonight with a full blown head cold!! I can relate about the bill and the loading and unloading. UGH!! Amber always complains....

Toni: Sorry to hear that you ate off plan. Don't worry, just try and get back on track this week..

Chris: Congrats on taking 2nd place in the Gingerbread cooking contest. Did you make a house? or was it men??

Jeannie: Your daughters sound very talented. With one excelling in gymnastics and the other performing in the nutcracker, I'm sure you are very proud. It was funny to read your post about the waitress who didn't know what carbs are..I guess it just becomes second nature to us since it's a WOE for us..

Solshine: What is kitty litter cake????? PLEASE POST RECIPE!!

Jackie: Good going for staying on Plan!!

Kelley: Welcome to the Board!! I live in West Broward, not too far from you in Boynton Beach. That is very cool. You have 3 teens? I really feel for you... I have a 15 yo daughter. I'm 39 yo, 5'6 and I don't know exactly what I'm weighing in right now cause I've also started TOM with this lovely head cold today. Congrats on already losing 3 lbs!!!:cb: I love Dairy too, so we already have a lot in common. I look forward to getting to know you better. Debbie is a "Super Cool Chick" and you will love her as I did when I finally met her about a week ago...

Beth: Sorry that you blew it, but it sounds like it was worth it at that luxurious hotel. Watching the Rockettes sounds like it was awesome. Don't worry, you can make your goal of 175 by X-mas if you start today.

Susan: Sorry that you had a painful drive. I'm glad it's finally feeling a little bit better.

Tina: Eating off plan can make the scale move up but as soon as you start eating on plan, the scale will move down. Don't worry, you can do it!!

Trish: That oriental place sounds VERY cool. I haven't been to a restaurant like that ever.

If I missed someone, I'm so sorry and I'm glad that everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday and that Chanukkah is going good.
I'm off to pick up some more cold medicine. I finished off a bottle of NyQuil since Thanksgiving so I better get some more. Talk to you tomorrow...

BOB
Keep up the great work! I'm here to stay!! I just can't fall into my size 14 jeans again!

It's Monday night--Belle and I got back to Auburn late this afternoon. I am tired and looking forward to going to bed soon.

Belle doesn't seem too traumatized now that she is home. She tolerated the car ride today better than last week. I was just worried about how frightened she was of the large crowd of people at the house over thanksgiving. We are going back for Christmas--so she is gonna have to get used to it!

Happy Channakah (did I spell that right?)--for all who celebrate the festivel of lights!

Deb--sounds like you are doing a lot of running around. I guess that's what this time of year is about for us all! I have to get out all the presents I've stashed away to see what I have for everyone.

BOB--You are doing great--your DR should have been doing the happy dance!

Monet--sorry about the migrane--ick! Get in that last week of rest so you can kick some butt!

Glory--so sorry to hear about your SIL. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

County---how do you do it? Cooking three meals a day plus teaching?????? I'm in awe!

Chrisb--Welcome! Don't worry about offending anyone with worry about the size 14 jeans--we've all been dealing with weight and body image issues long enough to know that you know best where you need to be!

Dairy--Welcome! This is a great group! There are a numer of folks that have switched from atkins to SB--so you should find plenty of support.

Gator--Oh dear. Did that lil'ol team from the ACc beat up on those po lil' Gators?

I apologoze if I missed you. but I really need to go to bed now!

Talk to you tomorrow!

I missed this board over Thanksgiving. We went to my inlaws in Tenn, I had a great time but no time for the computer. Lots of family were there. I did well with my eating, and I took foods suggested by all of you that really helped.
Glory-Sorry about your sil. Was she sick? The hotel sounds like a lot of fun though :)
Dairy-Welcome to the board. I'm new too. My sils said I looked thinner and my stomach was flatter--I know it's because of my 10 days on SB. With your Atkins knowledge, you will have no problem switching to SB.
I didn't take notes == just wanted to say hi and get back on board. I liked the motivational message Deb-especially "emotions are the fuel and the mind is the pilot" And WTG on your running time-awesome! Does anyone have any good websites for beginning runners? I'm wondering how fast to increase my distance.
I am also wondering about kitty litter cake, Deb's cheesecake, stuffing, etc. I'll check the recipes.

Good Morning Everyone!

It's beautiful and sunny up here today, BUT....IT'S FREEZING COLD!!!! With the windchill factored in, it feels like MINUS 20F BRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Can those of you with really warm weather try to send some up here, PLEASE!

I've got to put a couple of panels into my son's snow pants today! They're from last year and are long enough but not wide enough. He'll need those pants to keep him toasty at school tomorrow! (he's off today)

I'm keeping my fingers :crossed: for WIW tomorrow. This morning the scale was down to a LOW of 165!!! :cb: :cp: It's amazing how the scale can vary day to day(was 169 yesterday). I could actually get into a pair of smaller jeans pretty easily! I think the way clothes fit is a better way to judge weight loss, but the scale is still a psych.

I'm back to detoxing this week! Stupid me made some chocolate chip cookies and ate a whole bunch. I had a headache and upset stomach yesterday. I thought I was coming down with something, then it finally dawned on me that I had had a ton of sugar over the weekend and ate 100% OP yesterday and that's probably why I felt so yucky yesterday.

WELCOME to the newcomers! This is a wonderful place for support.

Gotta go and get the little guy some breakfast! have a good SB day everyone.

Evening All:wave:

Starting this post before ELI gets home and before someone yells "WHEN ARE YOU GETTING OFF THE COMPUTER???"

Nothing exciting to tell about my day, went shopping but didn't find much on my list-tomorrow is another day though:)

GOOD NEWS!!!! TRISH IS COMING TO FLORIDA FOR OUR GET TOGETHER. Seems DH gave her the green light! Anyone else thinking about coming and joining the gang???? So far we have TRISH, MELF, MONET, TRANQUIL, SERENE, BIGK, GATOR, SOLSHINE, VESNA, BOB, DENISE & YOURS TRULY. More info will be arriving via e-mail shortly!!!

TRISH, LMK what you find or what you need help with with coming down and please, give your DH a big wet one for me for saying YES! Glad you had a good TG and found your way back on track. I've never heard of the Mongolian Grille, don't think we have them down here. I know they have PF CHANGS, but I've never been. I sure hope you like MEXICAN because you and MELF are going to be going to OLE OLE for sure. You'll have to let me know if there's any other places you may have in mind you'd like to go to while you're here. I'm so excited!!!!

MUSIC, as you can see, you are in (good) company for not staying OP over the weekend. Don't worry, those 4lbs are mostly water weight, I highly doubt it's all fat, you'd of had to eat 14,000 excess calories to gain 4lbs of fat. Maybe hormones are playing a part in it as well, like me. Up today and didn't do a darn thing wrong (except not drink water).

JACKK, each time I hear on the news they have more passengers on the cruise ships I think of you and how lucky you are. I doubt you're seeing what we are down here but so many cruise lines have people getting sick in the past few weeks the NDC is worried about it. Just today a Carnival Cruise Line came back with a slew of sick people. They said they've had over 1,000 get sick recently on quite a few ships-scary! Don't be jealous about the shopping, I have no choice, it's already the 4th night of Chanukah! With ELI it's not too hard, I try to get him 12 gifts, so it's more time consuming than anything else. What I hate the most is WRAPPING GIFTS!!!!! I'd probably find it hard to go out in the 30's too, heck I find it hard to go out in the 50's! BUt I know I do warm up fast most times. I really worry about Orlando and the weather come race day. I know I won't get any slack from anyone, they'll kick my butt to the starting line if I try anything, I'm sure!

COUNTRY, read what I wrote to JACCK above about the cold weather. So girlfriend, what's your plans for your birthday this weekend???? I do the same as you, when I find something I use really cheap I buy tons, I bought TP one time, a case, I swear, I didn't buy TP for about 2 years (this was a huge case!). Right now, you'd think I cornered the market on TP, napkins and paper towels if you saw my closet in the family room/garage!

DAIRYQUEEN, http://members.aol.com/eldemila/sb_sign3.jpg Glad to see you've jumped on in and joined us:D Hmmmm, would you rather be called DAIRY or would QUEEN suit you better???? Hey, how about DQ??? Thanks for letting us know more about you! Seems we are close in age, have kids close in age, I've been fat since the day I popped out, I'm short, 5' 1 1/2" tall, and if you know how you looked and felt at your high weight, just think of me at 284lbs!:fr: Of course, we're both Floridians too! And like you, I read a lot of books about different WOE before deciding upon SB. I'm sure we have more in common, just give us some time. CONGRATS on your 3lb loss!! That's great!!! As SOLSHINE said, we'd love for you to join us if you can in Orlando next month. LMK if you want some details. I promise, we don't bite, and we sure have a ton of fun when we get together!!! As for the pictures, the avatars, you can upload one right from the site (go to OPTIONS or PREFERENCES I think) or you can find one on the web. I found somethine I think MAY work for you. I'll have to e-mail it to you. Again, WELCOME!

SOL, do you know that when I see a post from you it makes me smile. Not only to see you on the board, but for the humoureous tones in your posts, they make me laugh so much! So, you and VINCE got sloshed for TG? LOL!! Hey, don't push me to burn something just yet! I still have til New Years Day. I think I'll be having everyone over here that day, but this time I'll try to be a bit more careful. What's new with you? Have you had time to find some info about Sat??? LMK!

GLORY, glad to hear your romantic evening was nice, I don't need THOSE kind of details!! Sorry to hear about your SIL. Was this a sudden death. My condolences to the family. Don't let this get to your eating please, it only compounds the pain.

CHRIS, as mentioned above, I have no choice but to get done with my shopping, I'm actually behind if one thinks about it! Since ELI celebrates Xmas he's the only one I'm ahead of the game for! Thanks for the kudos about being back in the 120's again-it makes me feel even better:D

BOB metamucil, isn't that for people who have dookie houser problems? What's the other stuff for? Will call you later!!!

MELF, you better watch it with eating all that Chinese food, you may develop slanted eyes! LOL! I'm not big on Chinese food myself, haven't had it in many years. If I want oriental I choose THAI, but that's on a rare occasion. There is a place near us that Michael likes to eat at that actually has brown rice sushi which I'll eat. Good luck with the new tapes. Hey, bring your walking shoes when you come, if I'm up to it on Monday morning, we'll do a walk around here before we go out for the day!

DENISE, sorry to hear that you all are not feeling good and that you had to go through this during TG AND being up at RR. That sure sucks! Sorry to hear about Gary's GM, I hope she isn't suffering. She's lived a long life, that's for sure. Trust me, I can't believe we're already in the middle of Chanukah myself. Heck, I can't believe it's going to be 2003 soon! Lauren LOVED the bracelet and it fits her perfectly. We found a necklace on line that seems to match and ordered that. I also ordered her a T-shirt that says DRAMA QUEEN. Have you got Amber taken care of for the holidays? Gary? I sure know what you are hoping for!!! ;) E-mail me the site of the t-shirt shop you ordered yours from, want to see it before I order mine. Nope, not a single cookie that Lauren made hit my lips! I know she's going to be making more this month so I know there's going to be at least one falling down the trap, but not yet. I haven't unpacked the new computer yet-driving the kids nuts!!! The DETOX DUNGEON, LOL! That's my house!!!! I'll give you a call sometime this week.

FILLISE, I think I'm the only Jew on the board now, well, actively that is. It's spelled so many different ways, Chanukah, Hanukah, Hannukah, etc. I too go shopping in my closets for gifts, my problem is I forget what I buy and sometimes when I find it it's so outdated that it can't be given to the intended that it was bought for. Glad to hear BELLE is back to normal!

LINWORTH, glad to hear you had a good TG and are back safe and sound. Kudos to you with planning ahead with your food AND for having family members already noticing your progress:D There's a ton of site about running out there, I don't jog the entire time, I'll jog and then walk a tiny bit and then pick up again. I just did what my body allowed me to do without killing myself-I've left the cars and trucks to do that!

ZANNE, I ask for cold, but not THAT cold, you can keep it! CONGRATS on seeing the scale go down like that. Hope it stays there or goes lower for WIW!

Well, I actually started this post last night but wasn't able to finish it til this morning, so GOOD TUESDAY MORNING EVERYONE!

ELI is off today so we'll be heading up to Broward after he runs some errands down here first, so won't be up there all too long today. I confess, I didn't walk today, I was lured back in bed this morning:s:

It's TUESDAY TIPS today.

Not sure if I posted this before, (someone sent it to me quite a while ago,) but the information, no matter if it's been posted before is always good to read as a reminder:D

Large portions of carbohydrates - or even small portions of the wrong carbs - can trigger excessive surges in that powerful hormone, insulin. Fortunately, there is a fabulous tool to illustrate which carbohydrates are likely to cause excess surges of insulin.

When carbohydrates enter your body, those carbohydrates are metabolized into glucose in your bloodstream, raising your blood sugar levels. The job of insulin is to move in and bring the blood sugar levels down. Under normal circumstances, this is a good thing. Insulin performs a vital function in your body. It works to keep blood sugar under control. But when your blood sugar rises to excessive levels, the insulin has to find a place to put the glucose that your body doesn't need. Simply put, insulin shoves the excess glucose into your fat cells. In other words, too much insulin causes us to gain weight. Excessive amounts of any carbohydrate or even small amounts of the wrong ones can cause you to have excess insulin.

The glycemic index was devised to show the rate at which carbohydrates are released into the body. It was first created in 1981 in Canada. Dr. David Jenkins developed the index as a way to help diabetics choose food. It was a controversial concept, but over time has become a clinically proven tool for choosing foods that control blood sugar levels. Scientists now understand that all carbohydrates are not the same and that our bodies do not treat them in the same manner. For example, one-half cup of mashed potatoes can send your insulin levels surging, while one-half cup of lentils has very little effect on your glucose levels. Not only that, but the lentils will not leave you hungry thirty minutes later and will not induce those dreaded carbohydrate cravings.

Two different glycemic indexes have been developed by scientists. One uses glucose as the benchmark of 100. The other places white bread at 100. Both rank foods according to the rate at which they are released into your body. Either is acceptable to use. As a general rule, just stay on the lower half of the scale when making your choices. (I personally try to stay below 60 on the glucose-based GI.) The higher the number on the index, the faster the carbs are released. The carbohydrates that release quickly into the body are the ones that cause sudden surges in insulin. Over time, those high surges of insulin can cause the body to become insulin resistant. Over more time, that insulin resistance can lead to diabetes and other related illnesses*.

Researchers determine the GI (glycemic index) of a food by feeding a set amount of that food to a group of people. Their blood sugar levels are measured before eating, then again several hours later. Averages are then take for the rise in the participants' glucose levels to determine the glycemic index of that particular food. Because the GI is an average, you need to be aware that the glycemic index of a food can be highly individual. The glycemic index is a terrific guide. But it is also important to be aware of the way your own body responds to a particular food. If you notice that one of the lower glycemic carbs causes you to gain weight or brings on the carb cravings, then you know that you need to leave that carbohydrate out of your diet.

Portion size does matter. Even though a carbohydrate may be on the lower half of the index, large portions of that carbohydrate can still trigger excessive insulin surges. This is especially true of the carbs that are in the middle of the index. If you are just starting to use the glycemic index, consider ˝ cup to be a serving. Then, see how that works for you over time.

Here is a little guide to help you stay on the lower half of the glycemic index:

Do not eat table sugar (sucrose) in any form.
Eliminate nearly all white potatoes. Instead, choose a small sweet potato or a small portion of red-skinned potatoes.
Never eat white bread. Delicious whole grain breads are now widely available. Look for the words "stone-ground" and "whole-wheat" on the ingredient list - not on the front of the package. If white flour or wheat flour is listed, choose another brand. Buy thinly slice bread when possible and limit yourself to one portion.
When buying pasta, look for whole grain or choose pasta that is mixed with whole wheat. At the very least, choose pasta made with only durum flour, the hardest of the wheats and the slowest to digest. Remember, more fiber means a lower GI. And, keep your portions to ˝ cup until you see how your body reacts. Although wheat pasta has a moderate GI, I have found that I do gain weight when I eat it.
Unless mixed with dietary fibers, corn should be avoided.
Avoid most white rice. Basmati rice has the lowest GI for white rice, but wild rice and whole grain brown rice (the long cooking kind you have to rinse) is better.
Limit yourself to long cooking Irish or Scottish oatmeal rather the quick cooking varieties and sweeten it with a low GI fruit like apricots.
Avoid tropical fruits like pineapple and choose more temperate fruits like pears, apples and peaches.
Keep your portions of carbohydrates small. Try to stay around ˝ cup. Consuming a higher portion of protein and green or leafy vegetables can help you resist the temptation to overindulge in the carbs.
Cook with healthy fats. These fats slow down the absorption of carbohydrates and often speed your metabolism. Healthy fats include mono-unsaturates like olive oil and peanut oil. Even real butter, a good source of CLA, is now considered a healthy fat.
Nuts make a great low glycemic snack and deliver healthy monounsaturates to your body. Add some macadamia nuts, peanuts and walnuts to your diet.
Adding acid to your food helps to lower the GI of the food. Use lemon juice and vinegar when you prepare foods and choose salad dressings that are vinegar and oil based.
When you are reading labels, choose the products higher in dietary fiber for a lower GI.
One of the best the most rewarding aspects of choosing foods based on the glycemic index is that you will begin to realize that you do not feel as hungry. The carb cravings will lessen. Your body will be getting the nutrition it needs rather than empty calories. Promoting a healthy lifestyle is a powerful prevention for a number of illnesses. Making wise changes in your diet has been shown to improve and even reverse many health problems. Equip yourself with an understanding and knowledge of the glycemic index, then give it a try. Your body will reward you for it.

* Insulin resistance is also known as Syndrome X. Many women who suffer with Syndrome X also suffer with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). Not only can the insulin be out of control, but this can lead to other hormones not being in proper balance. Other health issues that experts have related to controlling your blood sugar are diabetes, obesity, elevated triglycerides, heart disease, headaches, loss of energy, chronic fatigue, yeast infections, depression, and premenstrual syndrome.

Thanks for the article Deb--I need to read that stuff over and over because I always forget. I was trying to explain about insulin and all at TG and I could not remember any details. I'm sure everyone thought I was "tupid" haha. I finally said -- carbs are stored as fat. Not entirely true but close. I'll print this article so I can memorize it.

Hello, everyone! I've read a lot of the posts since the beginning of the week and it looks like many did O.K. during Thanksgiving. I am so proud! Even though I can't be with y'all as often as I would love to be, I still care about each and every one of you and am so glad you are doing so well.

Deb, thanks a MILLION for the sweet e-mails of encouragement. As always, you are such a motivator for us all. I have continued on the wonderful SB program throughout the entire time since I've been "away" and continue to lose weight marvelously...and to feel fabulous! I just wish I could be back on the board like I love to. I miss you all.

Please continue to encourage each other and I'll do my best to pop in when I can.

Love to you all!

Quick check in this morning. Scales are looking much better this morning. Down 1.5 from yesterday. I stayed OP yesterday, but had too many nuts. The appraiser is coming today so we'll see if our refinancing goes thru. I'll be leaving school for awhile so I can let her in the house. Hope she doesn't count off for the house being messy.:o
Later.

Good morning everyone.

What a rainy yucky day it is here. It's supposed to rain today and tomorrow and be cold and nasty. I went to Curves last night. Didn't exercise any last week except for moving my mother. Stepped on their scale and let's just say that I need to visit them every night this week. It was not pretty.

Dairy Queen - Welcome aboard!!! We're a swell bunch of folks and promise not to be too mean (except when you need it most).

Music - How 'bout them Horns indeed. If I was your niece, I wouldn't have talked about it either. 50-20, she was probably in shock. It was so good to see Chris Simms have a good game. He's had a tough couple of years here following in Major Applewhite's footsteps. We kicked the Aggies bootie and then OU lost as well. Could it get any better? Jump on the wagon, it's swinging around your way.

Jack-K - At least you have some presents bought to sort out. You're way ahead of me. I have 3, count them, 3 presents, bought; nothing wrapped. And I volunteered to shop for the needy family that our office is adopting. What was I thinking? I'm trying to draft people to help with that, at least.

Country - Glad you're feeling better. $500 for a family of 6, wow, that's great. I spend about $500 for a family of 4 and that doesn't count eating out, which we do a lot of. Of course, I'm feeding boys and then there's also the 17 y/o's girlfriend that we feed a lot too. Of course her family feeds him quite a bit, so I guess that evens out.

Sol - The wagon has picked up Music and I and it's on it's way to you. Temps, dontcha just love em. Hey at least yours showed up. We went through 4 temps before we could get 1 to come back after lunch!

Glory - Sounds like you had a swell anniversary. Way to go hubby! Sounds like somebody got their exercise in this weekend!! So sorry to hear about your SIL. Was it your husband's sister?

Monet - How old is your daughter that has the migraines? I used to get them monthly, definitely cycle related. When I got pregnant the first time, they pretty much went away. I still have one once in a great while, but certainly nothing like they were. Is she on birth control pills? One of the things my gyn did was to take me off of them. That helped a little also. They are sure no fun.

Bob - Congrats on the good dr visit. I used to have a doctor like that. He explained everything to you. Once when I had strep throat, he made me go look at the culture under the microscope. He retired a few years ago and his replacement is great, but I sure miss my old guy.

Melf - Where did you find the Leslie Sansone DVD's. I've been looking for them but have only seen them on VHS. Good for you for getting started.

Denise - Feel better soon. My son has had a cold that he just can't seem to shake. The Detox Dungeon is where all us bad little girls have to go when we've overindulged. Deb is the Dungeon Mistress. Since you're so close to her down there in Florida, you better watch out or you'll be there for sure. Are we a sick bunch or what?!

Chris - Congrats on the competition. Don't worry about anyone taking offense. Good for you for knowing where your body should be. I feel the same way about my bigger clothes. In fact they are all boxed up and ready to go to Goodwill. Too bad we don't all live closer and could do a clothing exchange. I would love your 14's (almost there).

Fillise - Glad you and Miss Belle kitty made it home safely.

Zanne - Glad someone is getting our sunshine. It's rainy and nasty here today. Jump on the detox wagon. I've had a headache for 2 days and just realized what it was.

Fruit - Where are you? Have you seen the polls? Looks like it may be UT and LSU in the Cotton Bowl. This could get ugly girls.

Deb - Are you kidding? Like Mexican? A Texas girl???? Of course I do. We'll just see if a Florida restaurant can compete with our Tex-Mex. I can't wait for the trip.

Melf - Would you copy me in on your itinerary when you email it to Deb? I'd like to time my flights pretty close to yours so Deb doesn't have to make too many trips. And I sure don't want you guys going to Ole Ole without me!!!

Everyone have a great day. See you guys later.

Good morning

Busy here today. The receptionist is out sick so I have to answer the phones and they are ringing off the hook. :fr:

Did get my walk in last nite (only 2miles as we walked to the store to get some bread and extension cords). Got my workout in too. I have decied to get up 15 minutes early and do my workouts in the morning until after Christmas. I think I have given up on walking in the mornings. Just too cold. At least when we go out at 5:30 pm it is not too bad.

Hope to make it to chat tonight. I have to sort out my gifts and figure out the money I've spent. Plus UK is on at 8:00 so maybe I can make it at half time.

Bob, sounds like your Dr.s visit was a success. My gyn spends a lot of time with his patients too. I like that.

Melf, sounds like you haven't been doing any cooking. That would be ok with me. But after awhile eating out gets old. Let me know how those tapes are. I have asked for some for Christmas.

Denise, Hope you are feeling better today. Sorry to hear about Gary's GM. I hope she doesn't linger long. That is so tough on the loved ones. Yeah for you staying OP even though you have been sick. :bravo:

Chris, WTG for staying OP yesterday. It will be easier today. I'm glad you are staying around.

Fillise, Glad you had a safe trip and Belle wasn't too bad. Maybe next trip won't be as bad for her.

Linworthlady. Glad you had a nice TG and stayed OP as well. Good for you.

Zanne, I'm with you on letting the clothes be your guide. That stupid scale can drive you nuts. But I guess we will never be able to stay completely off of it. That's why I try to only weight on WIW. Hope those cookies are all gone. :cookie:

Deb, looks like there is going to be a big turnout for the marathon. Sure wish I was able to come. So do you give a gift a day for 12 days? How does that work with Eli celebrating Christmas? I'm surprised the kids don't want to celebrate both. Sorry to be so ignorant about your customs. I have a 25 days of Christmas calendar that has pockets in it and I have always put a gift in each day for the girls. THey have to alternate days though. It used to be so easy now that they are grown it is so hard to find cheap things to stick in there. Plus with one at college it is hard to do unless I mail them to her. I'm running late and haven't filled it yet this year. May just skip it. Have a great day in Broward.

Better get busy. Later

Yikes, you ladies - COUNTRY, SOLSHINE, MONET and some others. About that grocery shopping again. I think spending 600-800 bucks a month is wretched! Maybe you should realize that it amounts to a huge portion of our 1 income ( read tiny Pastor's Salary here ) family! Ah well....can't complain too much because none of us are starving, that is for certain. However, I remember when hubby and I would spend only 200 a month of groceries before the kids came along. With upwards of 800 with 3 small kids I am afraid to even imagine when they are teenagers and what they are going to eat! COUNTRY- You mentioned a dozen eggs for .49 cents? We pay 2.09 for a dozen here and if they do go on sale the cheapest I have ever gotten them is 1.89 dozen. We also don't go out to eat much. We generally go out to dinner ONCE a month and that is at the beginning of the month when hubby gets paid. But you know what? God is so good and we lack nothing so I praise Him for it!

Well it's a very cold morning here, and I'm getting on the board no matter how I feel, It is not going good here for us,:( I know that no matter what we want or say Death is alway hard and the love one that passes on is so much better off. It just hurts so much for those who are left behind to deal with the loss.

Monet: I was wondering if you had thought to ck your fuse for your brake light, I'd take it out and then it couldn't run down the battery and you wouldn't have the big repair bill. Just a thought;)

Jack'K: I'm defenately an emothional eater, Last night our best friends stopped by to take us out to dinner on the spur of the moment and I had a hamburger and french fries. And I never eat frys I don't even like them, I alway order salad, My friend was so shocked. she got the salad. and she usually orders the frys, Hope today is better. Have a good one and thanks for the concern.

Bob: thanks for the good words, but I'm not doing to good at hanging in there, Maybe after the funeral on Thurs. things will get back to normal, I only know I'm not leaving the board durning this time cause if I do then I truely will be lost to the fat:(

Melf: Thanks for the welcome, it's nice to be back on the board, I need this board so much. It sounds like you had a great time at DB's I know that I love family gatherings. It's fun to sit and catch up. Which we don't do enough of.

Denise: i"m so sorry about Gary's grandma, I'm glad he's had her for so long, I know when I lost Grandma it was really hard because DD didn't get to grow up knowing her like I did. I also miss her, It just gets easier after time. never better just easier. I know what your going through so you two hang in there. My prayers are with you.

Dairy Queen: Welcome to the board, It's a great group of people that are always there for you and they will do there best to answer any question you may have, There just the best

Fillise: Thanks for the prayers they are greatly appreciated. Is Belle your Daughter or your pet I'm out of the loop on that, It sounds like Belle did good though:)

Lin: Yes the hotel was great and I'm glad we have the Memories, As for Kathy she had cancer, she fought it for 2yrs and it was a real struggle, she never gave up right to the end, She wanted to beat it. they gave her miracle drug after miracle drug but none worked. SHe was tired and ready to go on Sat. She had her Kids with her and she knew that Jesus was going to comfort her. I shall miss her dearly. We need to find a cure for this cancer.

Trish: It was my hubbys Brothers Wife, she also was my DD God mother, we were very close, Cancer is a terrible thing, she was very strong and fought as long as she could. She was our angel her on earth and we are better for having known her.

Deb: I know what you mean, And I shall try to come out of this with myself incontrol but for now I'm a wreck, I will stay with the board so I don't go to far the other way. Love you all and your support means more to me than you will ever no. We have the furneral on Thus. and then go to court on Fri. for DD case. Man is it going to be a :headache: of a week. Thanks for the support.

Again I want to say thank you to each one of you, You've been so knid and your support is a big help thanks you Love to all Glory

It's a rainy and yucky this morning. But it's a great day. The kids finished school early and are watching a little tv. It's so dark outside I let them light the tree.

Gracious...I hear ya...we are a one salary family also...and let me tell ya..when they become teens they are bottomless pits. My 9 almost 10 year old can eat almost as much as his 17 year old brother...LOL We have a store here called Dollar General and you can get boxes of crackers and cookies for only a dollar a box. Very helpful on the budget. I thought when BJ moved out the bill would go down..(there use to be 7 of us) but oh no...both my boys are major eaters. My one daughter is hungry 24 and 7 which makes up for her sister is eats very little. She wants to stay tiny. Her favorite food is salsa and chips. I make my own she eats so much of it.

Trish...morning! Gotta love the boy friends and girl friends. Britts fella doesn't eat here as often since he started college..but it's nice to spoil em with a nice meal. That's one of my ways of showing love.....cook someones favorite meal or snack. Don't know why I'm like that just always have been. That's our birthday tradition also...you get to pick you favorite meal.

Denise...hope you are feeling much better today. Praying for a quick recovery.

Deb...my kinda woman. I'm laughing over here. I had to buy dishwashing liquid for the first time in two years about 3 months ago. I'm on my way to building up my supply again. :) Not gonna do anything for my b-day. Hubby has to work. Probably just hang out with the kiddos and play some games on the computer. Britt and I found a game called "word stalk" pretty easy but fun. I LOVE word games.

Susan....thank you. Not all the meals are hot. They do get the occasional cereal (only if it's been on sale) and sandwhiches when it's warm out. They are so spoiled. My sisters kids come over and oooo and awww over breakfast. :) I joke about being like Aunt Bea.

I am sure I'm missing someone....sorry. I'm starvin' like marvin'...gonna go eat something.

Love,
Crystle

Glory, hang in there, hon. You're right, cancer is an awful thing. My husband's parents both died from lung cancer. His father's death was more sudden, but Joe was with his mother when she died. I know that even though he had to lose her, that gave him comfort. He was holding her hand and it was very peaceful after a long hard struggle. Just know that we're here for you.

Well I'm off & running this am. Have a dentist appt today, then concert tickets tonight with 2 dd's for "4 guys & a Fruitcake" That is 4Him & Sondra Peirce. She is a riot!! Have really been looking forward to going. Didn't think I would get to go but someone gave my dd 2 free tickets, so away we go!! :D

Trish, look for my itinerary in your email. The walking DVD's I found at the mall at Suncoast. All 3 for $25. Thought it was a good buy. If you can't find them let me know & I can pick up a set for you before I leave in Jan!

Jack-K, yes, the dvd's are actually out of the box!!! I put the first one in last night & my 3 y.o. gs, Daxton was trying to doing the walk with me. LOL He was soooo cute!

Debbie, yes, I will certainly pack my walking shoes because they are also my evryday comfortable shoes. Some SAS, same as my nursing shoes except these are colored instead of white.

Well you'll, I would love to sit here & answer more posts but I really got to go or else I will not get everything done that I have to do today.

Oh, BTW, the scale was way up this morning. Can't say I was surprised. But I have vowed to be back on track today & have started the day off right. Hoping to stay 100% OP today & the rest of the week, GOT to get that weight back down. Will probably not have time for my walking tape today, but WILL do it tomorrow for sure. No less that 3 times a week to start off & hoping to increase it from there. BYE!!

It's cold here--well cold for Alabama. I started the morning with a big bowl of steaming oatmeal. The hot cerial was good this morning.

Country--does zapping oatmeal in the microwave count as cooking? I am looking forward to cooking a good hot nutritious meal tonight. Still, I bet you feel like you spend your life in the kitchen!

Glory--Yes, cancer is terrible. It's robs us of so many people way too soon. I hope your SIL is at peace now and that with time your sadness will give way to remembering her with joy and love for having known her.

Belle is my cat. She is 17 months old and tiny--still looks like a kitten. She leads a sheltered existence in a quiet house with me--getting into the thick of a big noisy family was a shock!

Gracious--600-800 on groceries?????? Oh my gosh--how do people raise families any more?

Jack-K--Belle and I are both glad to be home. I haven't told here that she has to go back in a little over two weeks!

Trish--I hope you have fun at the marathon!

Monet--Are you ready to get back to the world?

Deb--And just where are Viv and Mel? I miss them! A holiday that is only cone day is all I can handle--If Christmas were 8 days--I'd be a wreck!

Ok--back to work.I hope everyone has a good Op day!

Lunch was great! But I didn't eat a tiny little bit...LOL I cooked half a head of cabbage sauteed with a bunch of green onions...one white onion and two tomatos thrown in after the heat was turned off. I would say I ate about 2/3 or 3/4 of it....:ink: :)

Glory...I am so sorry for your loss. Praying for you and your family.

Yes, Susan...some days I feel like I am attached to the stove. Which can be a double whammy trying to stay away from the no-no's...but God..that's all I can tell ya. :)

Feeling a little better today. Still can't taste, smell or hear anything! Coughing a lot more today. I went shopping last night and bought tons of Cold medicine products. That could explain the high grocery bill! :^:

I will definitely make chat tonight. Don't want to do anything right now but stay home and feel better. This year, I have done most of my shopping on line and having it delivered via UPS. As the packages come in, I wrap them that day so that I don't have a lot to wrap all at once. I just don't feel like dealing with the crowds, etc. this year. Besides, I usually get better deals on line because of the comparison shopping you can do and lots of places deliver for free (i.e. toys r us) if you spend enough money. Amber and Gary's presents are pretty much taken care of. We will be picking up a tree on Saturday and decorating it. On Sunday, we have to go to my Mom's for birthday party for my sister and her husband. My Sister's bday is 12/9 and her husbands is 12/11. My Dad's is 12/21. It's always busy in December.

Gary's GM is still alive. Unbelievable. We said our "Good Byes" on Sunday night and now she is still alive on Tuesday. The doctor's said that it will be a long and slow dying process since she is basically dying of old age at 94 and her organs, including her brain will just start shutting down each day. It's very strange situation.:?:

Chris: Good for you getting back on plan! You see, you're feeling better already. Your gingerbread house and bowl sounds so beautiful yet delicious. Can you attach a picture of it so we can see it?

Crystal and Gracious: I can relate to the one salary family too, but it's just me and Amber. I can spend $150-$200 easy each week just for me and Amber, but that includes everything from food, drugs, makeup, bath stuff, etc...

Gracious: My dad was a pastor when I grew up as a kid and you know you always get what you need, that's for sure. It's good sometimes to not always be able to get what you WANT...

Crystal: I with your daughter-I LOVE SALSA AT OLE OLE!!

Glory: Thank you for your prayers re: Gary's GM. I truly feel for you and your loss. I think it's true that "Only the Good die Young". Cancer is cruel and vicious. With all the advanced technology today, you would think that they could do something about this. My prayers are with you too...Try to stay strong and look for other things to comfort you besides food....(I know that's also easier said than done!)

Zanne: I cannot relate to your cold weather. You can have ours. Another cold front is coming in on Sat. It should be around 75 degrees during the day and down to the 50's at night. Congrats on getting down to 165!! and fitting into your smaller pants.

Jackie: Sounds like you have your hands full taking over the Receptionist position today! I bet she's out sick with what I have! It's definitely going around. If you haven't gotten it, you will. Everyone I know has gotten this!

Tina: Congrats on your 1.5 lb loss!

LKF: Glad to hear from you again. It's good to know that you are staying on plan and doing well.

Trish: So, Debbie's the "Dungeon Mistress" :judge: She could put that on her Marathon T-shirt! LOL! I better be good since I live so darn close to her... I look forward to meeting you in January.

Debbie: Hello, my "Dungeon Mistress":wizard: Don't worry I'll be good. I don't want to see you at the Detox Dungeon:eek:

Thanks for that article on the carbs and insulin. I copied and pasted that onto my computer so that I can re-read it as needed.

I'm glad that Lauren liked the bracelet and I'm sure she will absolutely love a matching necklace to go with that! What a lucky girl. That t-shirt "Drama Queen" is TOOO funny! You are mastering your discipline especially if you haven't had any of Lauren's cookies yet. What kind are they?

When are you going to open your new computer? I can hardly wait to hear about it...

(for everyone else reading the paragraph below, I am hoping that Gary will ask me to marry him. We have been dating for almost 2 years now and I only see him on the weekends if he comes over or I go over there. It's been very hard to do)

You know what I want from Gary, but I just don't think that's going to happen. I don't know what his problem is. I'm really trying to be patient, but I can't take it anymore. It gets me so depressed sometimes just thinking about it and I wonder why he doesn't want to. It could be because I have a child and he wants to wait till she goes to College. Anyhow, I can't make him do something he doesn't want to do if you know what I mean. Okay, now I'm depressed... (It's just hard not to take it personally)

Hi to Kelly and Linworthlady! Hope everyone has a great day and I'll talk to you at Chat tonight!

Boy, I am feeling so much better now than I did last week. On top of having the broken collar bone , I got a cold.
I guess my resistance was just very low. I felt just terrible and I still needed to help my daughter with the
Thanksgiving dinner. I was careful and washed my hands ten million times a day. So far no one caught the cold
from me. I stayed on program during Thanksgiving but I have not been able to exercise, so I am not weighing just
yet. Oh, we had Pumpkin Cheesecake that I found on this site and it was wonderful. I used agave instead of
Splenda.

Okay, I have a very strange problem that I need help with. Last year I started getting this strong smell and taste
from a variety of foods that was out of the ordinary. The problem foods are mainly coffee, wine, bread, yogurt,
cauliflower, onions and now even perfumes, hair sprays and my face lotions have this strange smell. I cannot
really tell you what it is like but some sort of petroleum smell. I don’t even know who to see to get some help with
this and it is getting worse. I have given up on coffee and for the most part wine. (Well, the wine I didn’t need
anyway.) It seemed have come on last spring after I took a round of antibiotics but at this time I can’t exactly
pinpoint even that as a contributing factor to the problem. What do you think?

My daughter is coming to Dallas this weekend to help me get started on my Christmas shopping. I think everyone
is worried that I might just stay in bed this season and let it just pass me by. I am hoping that I get into the spirit
soon.

Monet: I can certainly relate to the quantity issue. I stay on program but I think I eat more than my share of food.
I did much better when I recorded what I ate so I need to get back to that. I hope they let you out of bed rest and
you feel much better. Things around my house have slipped also while I have been away from my regular duties
have not been able to iron so, I have been going around in wrinkled clothes. I have been teasing my husband about
doing the ironing but he hasn’t taken the time to do it. I think it is more fun just to harass him.

Dairy Queen: Welcome! Welcome! I too am 5’ 2’’ so, I understand the wt/ht thing. This site has helped me on so
many levels and I bet you will find inspiration here as well.

BOB: My doctor talked about something similar to Metamucil for lowering Triglycerides also. I’ll need to look
into it.

Melf: Please let me know how you like the Leslie Sansone DVD’s.

Denise: So sorry to hear about your cold. I finally tried Tylenol Cold Tablets (After trying several other products)
and they made me feel much better. It said to take two but I got by with only one at a time.

Debbie: Thank you for posting the article on insulin. It is always helpful to review that information and I always
seem to pick up something new from it.

Trish: I guess I am behind on information about the Fl trip. Are you flying on Southwest or have you found some
other really good airfare? I would love to see Ole Ole for myself.

Bye for now,

Solly

Sure glad thise day is over. The phones drove me crazy today. GUess I'm out of practice in answering them.

Trish, we must have been posting at the same time.I feel you on the not exercising last week. After Thursday hit, that was all for me. Last night those weights were really heavy. Got to get back in the swing of things though. Bad thing about those gifts, a lot of things were for me. I just don't have many clothes now. Plus DD has a birthday Friday. It's never ending, but I guess we will make it somehow. Yes delegate some help in buying for that family. I'm still waiting on DD to bring me some kids home from her work to buy for.

Gracious, you are right, none of us are starving, in fact I think we eat pretty good. We should be thankful for that.

Glory, just remember that eating something "illegal" will only add to your problems. It will make you feel bad on top of things. When I go out with friends I really have to be good since they know I hav been doing this for so long, I don't dare want them to think that I'm a quitter. Sending prayers your way. Definately stay in touch it will help keep you on track and we are here to listen if you need to vent. Good luck on Friday.

Country, you brought back some memories. We always got to pick our favorite meal on birthdays. Mine was prok ribs and sauerkraut. My sister always got Goulash, yuk! I don't mind cooking, if someone tells e what to cook. Of course I hate to clean-up too!

Fillise, Man, I wanted some oatmeal this morning too. No milk! Settled for yogurt instead.

Melf. sounds like you are gung-ho ont he exercising. I'm going to get some incase I can't get out to walk in the cold and snow. Good luck on getting back on track. You can do it.

LKF if you are lurking, we miss you. We were posting at the same time. Glad you popped in. :bravo: for you still losing. What's the total now. Come back when you can.

Serene, Tranquil, Fruit, Gator, we are missing you too.

Music, Yeah for you on the 1.5 lbs. Keep up the good work.

Denise, Sure wish I had done more on-line shopping. Good going on wrapping it as it comes. Feel better. It is so sad about Gary's GM. It is so painful for the rest of you. Prayers coming your way. I sure hope you get a ring. Maybe he is acting that way to throw you off. If not, it sounds like you have done pretty good by yourself with your DD and you can't push someone into something like that, it just doesn't work. Be patient. It will come. Try not to let it get you down.

YellowRose, So sorry to hear you have been sick. Hope you feel better soon. That is a strange problem. I can't imagine why those things would smell so strong. Is there soemthing common among their ingredients? Glad you are getting some help with your Christmas shopping. Maybe your DD can come help me next.

Hope to make it to chat tonite. Good luck to everyone on WIW tomorrow.

Good evening everyone! Don't know if I will make chat...I am just so tired today! I may go to bed early.

I went to the doctors office today..and found I was about the only one who was NOT called and told he was not going to be there because he got called for jury duty! I saw the PA, and while she is very nice, she checked my over for the mono stuff, then sat down and started in on my weight. I have been seeing this doctor for three years, and he has been trying to solve the weight issues with me, so her harping on it really irritated me. According to her, I am the only patient they have put on the Glucophage who has not lost weight. Gee, thanks, rub it in some more. I left there depressed, and a tad angry. I don't trust her, so I am not sure if I should follow her advice on activity levels or not. sigh. I just wish the doctor had been there. It was a bummer.

I am going to go get myself situated in the bed with lots of pillows and a good book, and read until I fall asleep. If I am awake for chat, I will try and check in.

Eatingwise...this is the third day I have made it through eating no starchy carbs at all. Today, I did have a bit of bulghur in the kibbe I made, but not much. I will be really happy if I see some results on the scale tomorrow...but I am not going to hold my breath! I don't understand, but it just seems impossible for me to lose. I feel a bit defeated...

HiedieHo All!!

Thought I'd better check in as I have been AWOL. Saturday night I started with a flare-up and had a lousy night, by morning I could hardly move. Needless to say I didn't go to church. Too many stairs to go up and down, my hips wouldn't allow it. I am feeling some better and did go to the NH yesterday, checked on a Christmas gift and today went to PW.

The kids hauled stuff out of the attic but I haven't done anything with mine yet. They have been working on the downstairs decorations. I did hang two wreaths!

Last night I made some mac and cheese w/ the semolina pasta. It was delicious. My family is not overly fond of real mac and cheese, they like the blue box. But I did it for me, and wasn';t feeling like cooking two meals. I noticed they made a good dent in it though.

DEB: Rutagbaga is a veggie and is in the turnip family. They are sually about the size iof a small head of cabbage, In fact raw they taste cabbagey. They are not listed on the SB veggie list, but they are traditional Thanksgiving and Christmas vegetable as far as I'm concerned. I usually cook them like potatoes and mash them like potatoes. Some people like to mix them with mashed potatoes, but I'm a purist.

CHRIS: How great you won in the contest. The weight will come off, at least you're not gaining. You have to keep trying, that's all we can do.

BOB: My brother cooked eggs when he was small and forgot them. What a mess!! Exploded!!!

TONI: I was reminiscing, I am a widow.

DAIRY: WELCOME!!! sounds like you off on a wondeful start. This is such a great woe!

GLORY: Glad you had a terrific homeymoon weekend. Sorry about your SIL.

DENISE: Hope you are feeling better. BTW, I experimented w/ the eggnog recipe. Used skim milk (no cream) and water and choc. pudding. makes a delicious milk shake. I omitted the rum flavoring but used some vanilla.

MONET: Sounds like you are still in no conditiion to run races. Six weeks over doesn't mean you are cured! Take care of yourself. Make a appt and say you want to see the doctor!

I want to get the kids two wooden rocking chairs they have wanted for so long. Every time they get the money it goes for something else. Trying to figure out a way to box and wrap them so they don't know they are chairs!

Tried to get in to chat. Page recognized me with a spiel about temporary page etc. But rest og page was blank.

Enough. See you tomorrow.

Take care all.

Hi everyone

YellowRose - Glad to hear you are beginning to feel better. Good for you staying op during Thanksgiving. I just did a quick search on Google to see what I could find out about smell problems. I did read that these problems can follow a course of antibiotics, also upper respiratory tract infections, as well as other causes. Here's a link to one article I found which you might like to check out. http://www.merck.com/pubs/mmanual_home/sec6/72.htm If you want to research some other sites type in DYSOSMIA in Google or whatever search engine you use. If the problem persists why don't you speak to your doctor, maybe he will refer you to an ENT specialist.

Monet - Sorry you had such a bad experience at the doctor's office to-day.

BOB - You are doing great - 24 pounds is awesome. :cp:

Melf - Yes I am still working in my retirement. I am just working casual but still get quite a few shifts. Last week I didn't work at all and this week I will be working 5 days. Sometimes it seems like it is all or nothing. I don't mind though, I get bored when I am home too long. Even though I have a few activities like badminbton, exercise class and tai chi, I have to exercise the mind sometimes too

Sef - Hope you are feeling better. Have you ever seen an egg explode in the microwave? That is something to behold. I know you have to be careful cooking eggs in the microwave but I was reheating a cooked egg for a patient and just never thought that it would explode. It looked like all the walls had been painted yellow. :yikes:

Sorry I can't respond to you all. I am way behind again. This weekend wasn't a good one for me as I had a smash up with my van on Friday on the way to work. I collided with another van which decided to make a left hand turn without signalling. Luckily no one was hurt. I'm driving a rental at the moment and keeping my fingers crossed that my van will be fixed up before my holiday. It should be as long as they have no trouble getting the parts.

All for now. Will try to catch up with you all later.

Marie.

Wow. It seems everyone is back on board from Thanksgiving. I had my last class of the semester Monday night and tonight was our first choir performance of the season. I assist our choir director with a small select choir and they do a wonderful job. Tonight you could tell it was their first performance, tho.

Lyn: Welcome back to the Lone Star State. Maybe we can finally meet before too long. Gotta figure out a way to get Tina over here. Hope you feel better soon and get that smell thing figured out. I remember when I was little having a vinegar smell to everything once when I was sick. Everything smelled like pickles and it was gross.

I'm sorry I can't respond to everyone. My life is so hectic right now, I'm lucky I was able to get here this late.

Night Everybody. Good luck with WIW!!!

Well I had planned to log in to chat, & maybe get to know a few folks tonight, but I felt crummy when I came home from school--went directly to bed... headache, chills, cramps...yuk (TOM is over too!) My youngest daughter (12) felt yucky too. Well, now I feel better--I took 2 excedrin and headache is gone...ready to chat but it's 1:30 a.m. so that's unlikely. DH is up working on the computer. He's really into computers--we have 3 all hooked into a network--CHEAP 'cuz he takes old parts and puts systems together for nothing. The 3 kids are always using the computer for school projects and they chat with their summer camp friends from around the world, so sometimes I have to "fight" for a computer even with 3 of them, LOL!

One of my students withdrew from the school, and now I have only 10 in my (5th grade) class. He had been getting in a lot of trouble, and was going to be expelled if there was one further incident of bullying. Boy-does his absence make a difference! They all get along so much better! I think I'm a spoiled teacher with such small classes. Pretty lucky too--the discipline problems we have at this school are very insignificant compared to the ones they have at public school.

I didn't go to kickboxing class tonight:( because I felt so yuk. Hopefully will make it to wt. lifting tomorrow.

I've enjoyed reading your posts. Forgive me for not addressing each of you individually yet--I want to read for a few days, then I'll contribute more fully. Thanks all for your warm welcome. I feel like I have friends here. I've been on other forums, but non as friendly/personal as you all seem to be w. each other.

Someone asked what to call me for short... Dairy is fine or DQ. I'm not sure about "Queen" though! It sounds too much like "Queen Size" LOL! I was joking with Debelli via e-mail that I should have chosen Starbucks as my username because it describes me better! That's why I chose a latte for my avatar... Hope everyone is having sweet dreams... "See" you tomorrow!

Well, GOOD NEWS for me for WIW!!! The scale stayed at 165!!!!! I'm going to have to change my sig!

That makes for 3 pounds lost in 3 weeks! Very unusual for me. But I'll take it.

I'm sorry, I haven't really had a chance to read the posts. We're working on a deal for an investment property and closing is Dec 23rd and all the phone calls, meetings, etc is driving me insane. At least it's keeping me out of the food.

I gotta go. We have 2 meetings today, have to pick up DS from school and then DS is performing with the school tonight! Talk about a busy day.

I hope you all have a good WIW.

Well, I've been up since 1 a.m. when I posted. I don't know why, but I couldn't get back to sleep.

Good news is, I weighed in at 155 this morning! I have to be losing water, çuz I know I can't lose this much fat this quickly. But after 4 months of being STUCK at 160, I'm not complaining! I just hope it stays off... I actually TUCKED my shirt in today--I haven't done that for years! It's encouraging--I feel I'm eating much healthier than before or even on Atkins. I still find my fat grams high... After so long on Atkins I guess I developed an appetite and the habit of eating high fat. I've been between 40 and 50g a day, and I think that's probably way too high, huh???

Also--question about oatmeal. I bought the old fashioned kind that you have to cook (not instant). It says 1 serving is 1/2 cup DRY. That makes 1 cup cooked. Is that ok? It seems like a lot, but it satisfies. I just don't want to botch this up when I'm off to a good start.

HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE!

I do not even want to acknowledge that it is Wednesday. I did weigh, and I am up two pounds. It is so terribly discouraging to be so careful, and see no results.

I am looking at the bottle of Phentermine, and wondering if I should go back to taking it yet. Just what I need...something else to make me feel dizzy.

Sorry to whine and all, and not be cheerful. I am just about at rock bottom on all this weight stuff. After my appointment with the PA yesterday, it all kind of crashed around me. I feel like why bother? Nothing I do helps! I have spent a small fortune on drugs to help fix my metabolism, and nothing works! For three days, I have eaten no starchy carbs, just lean meats and veggies, and I still gained! I added extra water, which did not help.

I know I ought to address everyone individually...but I will try and do that later...when I am hopefully in a better mood.

I hope everyone has a good day! If I were a drinkin' woman, I would go have a strong one right now...good thing I don't drink! ;)

Good WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY MORNING EVERYONE!

At least I hope it's good for us all, or at least majority rules! I swore I wouldn't get on the scale today but I guess I just love to inflict mental torture on myself. Just joking, about the mental torture, that is. I knew the scale would be up. I'm smack dab mid-cycle, day 14 today and not only did I feel bloated yesterday, I ate like there was no tomorrow, thankfully all SB LEGAL with the exception of some theater popcorn and if you want to count not 1, but 2 bananas my body seemed to be craving for some odd reason (they are far from being a favorite), at least they were more on the green side! So, the scale is up 3lbs for me since yesterday, but honestly, it doesn't bother me really, I know it's just a temporary hormonal gain and NOT fat and that's what I have to keep in perspective. I'll be patient as I have in the past and I'll see the scale drop down just as it went up.

I should of walked yesterday as I felt more like doing it yesterday than today. Not only is it really windy out there, humid and warm as well. Back in to the 80's down here. I did get out and do my 4.5 miles though not too quick today, did more walking than jogging. I didn't have it in me to do more and to fight the winds against me. Took me 56:45, not too bad all things considering.

ELI and I had a nice day out yesterday, got home later than usual. Of course, lunch at OLE OLE was delish! Made lots of little stops along the way. Went to the movies, saw FAR FROM HEAVEN. Was a little slow, but not a bad movie at all. Funny to see how things were in the late 50's and how prim and proper people were back then. BOY, to see how things have changed!!!!!

Thanks to DENISE & LIN who showed up at chat last night:)

Have some errands to run today before picking up the kids so I better get on the ball and get in some replies before it gets too late...

LKF, glad to hear you are doing good and survived TG! Don't worry about the quantity of times you can get on the board, the important thing is just to get on when you are able. We all understand how busy lives can be, esp. during the holiday season, and we all understand that not everyone can be here 24/7. :D

MUSIC, how'd the appraisal go? Hope you get a great rate!

TRISH, hmmm, not sure how MEXICAN OLE OLE is going to be compared to what you have over there. Besides, I always get a COBB SALAD when I go there-how Mexican is THAT? We'll definitely hit that place, but I'd say you should probably try some CUBAN food while you are here. We'll have to do Middle Eastern too. Geez, sounds like we'll be on an eating frenzy here-are you game?

JACKK, I wish you could come back down too, but trust me, we'll be speaking about you and the others on the board, so you'll be with us in spirit! For Hanukah we give 8 presents, 1 for each night. I usually give the kids one big item and 7 small ones. I have just 3 nights to go!!! Now, ELI celebrates Xmas and I've always gotten him 12 presents, they're all fairly small but I do try to get him something bigger when I can. I think these days I really find it more for the kids. I think as far as the adults go, bdays are more important for giving (like for my parents and ELI and other family members) anniversary and Valentines day, just a token of love.

GLORY, I hope things are better for you and the family today. It's a trying week for you and everyone else. Please know our thoughts are with you each and every step of the way!

COUNTRY, I know what you mean about kids eating, Michael is the worst one, he's non-stop. And to make matters worse, his food is more expensive than anyone else's I buy due to him being a vegetarian. He'll down a box of corndogs without a blink to the tune of $3.89 a box, and that's just an appetizer for him! Poop that DH has to work on your Bday, maybe he'll plan something special for you the day he's off:)

MELF, hope your dentist visit went well. How was the play? Sounds like a cute one.

FILLISE, seems MEL and VIV come and go, as well as others. Wish everyone would stick around, but we know from experience this doesn't happen, esp. during the holidays. I know we'll lose some temporarily, some permanently but yet, we'll always have new people joining us and bringing new light to the board.

DENISE, glad you were at chat last night. Hope you are feeling better today. Seems you have lots of bdays in Dec. In my family August and Feb are big months for us. How's Gary's GM today? So, you don't want to see the DD? You can come see it, whether you STAY and find yourself being punished is totally up to you:s: The cookies LAUREN makes (which will def. put me in the DD if I dare eat just one, because for me, there isn't "just one".) are called many different things, but we've always called them RUSSIAN TEA CAKES. Some people call them wedding cookies, other Martha Washingtons (that one threw me for a loop when I hear it) and probably others. Very easy cookie with only 5 ingredients-my type of baking! They are sooooo good! Better stop thinking about them, they're still sitting on the counter!

ROSE, glad to hear you're feeling better. I hope you have a good time getting out and shopping with your daughter, but, be careful you don't overdue it, you don't need any kind of relapses! So, you want to see OLE OLE? What about us, are we chopped liver??? LOL!!

BOB, CONGRATS on another great loss this week! Girl, you're just melting away, I may not recognize you next month! Keep up the good work, you're doing great! Glad to get to speak with you yesterday and of course, your sweetie always loves talking to you as well;) E-mail me when Johhny contacts you and let me know the details so I can disburse all the info to everyone. If you have any questions you can call me at home or on the cell.

MONET, that stinks about the Dr. and going there for no reason. Hope you are feeling more rested today. When you make your kibbe do you bake it in a pan? That's how I make it. Have you ever made kafta. Haven't done it in a while but now that I think about it...

CHRIS, WTG! Two days down and today will be another good day. I always find the first 3 days my hardest, but if I can get through those 3 days it seems to be smooth sailing from there on, or for a long time, at least. Keep up the great work as well as a positive attitude!

SEF, sorry to hear you're feeling under the weather, I hope you feel better today. Take it easy, you know how you tend to push too hard and too much. I'll have to see if the grocery store has rutabaga, just to see what it looks like. I wonder if it's SB LEGAL though, being it's a root veggie. If it doesn't cause you problems though, don't worry about it, besides, it doesn't sound like something one would eat often, or would it be?

ROSALIE, sorry to hear about the crash. Thank goodness you weren't hurt! Not something anyone needs to have happen, esp. right before the holidays. Hope things go smoothley with the repair. Will you have it back before your trip, or are you using the rental?

JRED, glad to see your post! Even if it's a quickie;)

DQ, CONGRATS on your loss this week! WTG! SB suggests that approx. 30% of your intake should come from fat, so depending on your daily caloric intake, it may not be too high. Say, if you were taking in approx 1500 calories a day, 30% of that in fat grams would be 50 grams. Sorry to hear you weren't feeling well yesterday and on top of that, couldn't sleep. Many of us on this board can sympathize with you. Okay, now that you opened up this discussion, I'm dying to know how you can get the computers at home networked. I'd love to have that for us. I wonder if you can do it with having AOL though. I'm so computer stupid, it's not funny. My kids are always fighting to get on line, one thinks their work is more important then the other ones. If I had this option I think it could solve many problems, and fights too! Gosh, you are lucky, only 10 in a class! Too bad public schools can follow suit, even if that was doubled it would be better than what's going on now. Kickboxing? Wish you lived closer, that's something I'd do, or should I say try, but never alone. You know, you COULD change your screen name to STARBUCKS if you really wanted (as long as it's not already taken). You can ask SUZANNE (3fc's) how this is possible without registering again, that is, if it's not taken. Would you believe, ELI'S license plate says STARBUX! People think he's the owner and they beep at him on the street, show him their coffee cups from SB's and sometimes, if he's at a light, he'll reach out and give them a coupon for a free drink. The man loves his job! Hey, whether you can or can't come to Orlando, you, me and DENISE should plan to get together one day in Ft. Lauderdale. It's an hour drive up there for me and about the same for you. We could hit OLE OLE!!!! As for the oatmeal, I think, if I remember correctly, that 1/3 cup dry would be a serving. I posted a link last week that gives a good look at carbs and the serving sizes, will have to find it. Just keep in mind a starchy carb serving also equals approx. 80 calories and 15 grams of carbs.

ZANNE, CONGRATS! Great loss over the last few weeks, keep up the good work. Hope your deal goes through with flying colors!

Whew! Okay, I'm done and I'm going to go get something to eat and then jump in the shower to get ready and go. I'll check in with you all later today at some point.

Morning all! Still no scale, so no WIW for me. I'm going to try to buy one this week or next. All Walmart has are the same kind that stopped working--I want a different brand!

Good OP day yesterday--after a mostly good week so feeling like I'm getting back on track. Unfortunatly TOM is here so I feel bloated and crampy today--ick.

Monet--Take it easy on yourself girl! That PA ought to be shot. I'd tell your Dr. how you were treated. You have been on bedrest for six weeks now--of course your weight might go up a little--but once you get active again those two pounds will come right off again--they are probably a blip anyway--you KNOW how fickle scales can be. Don't let that stupid woman inside your head. She doesn't know anything about what you have been doing--you do! Have faith in yourself!

Dairy--Congrats on the loss--it feels really great to see the scale move after a stall, especially a long one! I use 1/3 cup of dry oatmeal to 3/4 cup milk. I think one serving in 1/2 cup, but I don't think a cup, especially early in the morning, will hurt you in any way.

Zanne--congrats on your loss too! Hope your day isn't too busy.

JRed--thanks for taking a break and letting us hear from you. I hope everything is going well for you!

Rosalie--sorry to hear about your accident. I hope your van is fixed soon!

SEF--OW! I'm verrryyy sympathetic to hip problems these days! heat and cold, heat and cold--and celebrex is a wonder drug! I don't like taking it long term because it makes me gain weight, but I was in so much pain last week that I didn't care--short term it is OK.

ChrisB--congrats on your second day OP--I find it works best if I take it just one day at a time!

BOB--YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!! You go girl!! 24 lbs is a lot! That weekly weigh in is really helping you.

Monet--where do you order your agave online?

OK--gotta get some work done. Got the first Christmas party of the season tonight. Need all your good thoughts that I can get through it without going off program. It's at a restaurant so I can't bring anything---dinner will be fine, it's the appetizers that I'm worried about. Here's hoping for a cheese and veggie tray!

Good morning! Still at 155...I'll take it. I've pretty much decided to not worry too much about loss until after the first of the year. If I can maintain, I think I will find a way to get back to work. I've been lazy with it all the last 4 months or so.

Monet ....how very mean and thoughtless of the P.A. to give you a hard time over something she is not well informed about. YOU are such a beautiful person...and I don't know why you are having trouble losing weight...but one day it WILL start coming off. Hang in there. I think you are AWESOME keeping up the good fight not getting the results you would like. That takes a lot of strength. I'm praying for you and believing you are very close to break through.((((((((hugzzz))))))))))

Hang in there Beth

Happy WIW.

Gosh it's almost 12:30 and I'm just getting to read this board. I had a meeting and then things have been crazy since I've been back. This job is really getting in the way with my SB Board lately. Things need to change. :s:

WIW is the same for me. I'll take maintaining. I did get up at 5:45 this morning and got my workout done. We walked 3 miles last nite, and boy I froze. My toes were hard as rocks they were so cold. The only good thing about it snowing is I won't have to walk tonite. I need to get some tapes and do them in doors.

It is snowing here. We are expecting 3-6" and it is 27 F. I'm moving to Fla. You all will have to put up with me complaining until April. Sorry!

Bob, Yeah for you girl. 24 plbs is awesome :cb: Keep up the good work. Actually we are supposed to get 3-6" and ice too. I sure hope they are wrong. I'm packing my bags and coming to live with you Fla gals until April. I can stay 1 week at each house there are so many of you.

Monet, what a bummer of a dr's visit. Especially sicne you were hoping for good news. I hate when those people harp about your weight. Do they think you don't know it? Sorry you were up 2 lbs. Tomorrow it will probably be gone. Don't let it get you down. Smile. I'm smiling at you. Hope your mood improves. We love you

CHris, :bravo: for 2 days OP. Keep up the good work. It gets easier.

Sef, Soory about your flare-up. Take it easy and get some rest.

Rosalie, Sorry about your accident. Hope you get your van back soon. Sounds like youare still busy, busy.

Jred, Glad to hear from you. Now that school is over maybe you can get back on here more regular.

Dairy, hope you are feeling better. Wow 3 computers. I wish I had someone who knew anything about computers. If they don't work, I'm doomed. That is wonderful that you have only 10 kids. They are getting some quality learning time. It's funny how one kid can really disrupt the whole class. WTG on reaching 155. Funny, I couldn't wait to tuck my shirt in too. Now I always wear it in. Makes you feel good doesn't it? 1/2 cup dry oatmeal is right.

Zanne, WTG on the 3 lbs. Keep up the good work.

Deb, Love your attitude girl. That's they wat to control that monster. Don't mention that it is 80 there. I'm soo jealous. Can I come live with you for awhile? Thanks for the explanation. Yes it is more for the kids, but my DH is just abig kids, he loves getting things too even though he says he doesn't want anything.

Glory, Prayers are with you today.

Beth, Come on girlfriend. You were doing so good! Remember your goal for Christmas?? I do. Jump back on the wagon and hold on.

Fillise, Hope you made it through the party ok. Celebrex causes you to gain? My Dr always told me that it didn't? I have cut back to 1 instead of 2 a day but don't see any difference one way or the other.

Country, A maintain is better than a gain. I'm with you. Too much going on to worry about losing right now. I'll take maintaining.

Sorry I didn't make it to chat. DD was on the computer. Never fails, doesn't use it all week and when I want it she's on it. I promise to be faithful after the first of the year.

Got to get to work. No one even opened the mail yet.

Good Morning all :)

Deb: Thanks for the Email, I'm going to print a copy of it and before every gathering or meeting with Mom I'm going to read it and see if I can't take it's advise, Thanks I think it helped some.
This has been a rough wk. I just talked to my cousin and my other cousin passed away, accually he's a cousin in law. anyway, the Bad news doesn't stop there. The Guy were going to court about on Friday, has left for a 2Wk Vaction to portaViarta. I most likely misspelled that. Anyway I hope they put out a bench warrent for his arrest. I just keep saying this too shall pass. I only hope I get though this month with my sanity.:dizzy:

BOB; Thanks for the good thoughts, I do know that God promises not to give us more than we can handle, it just seems my plate is a little full and for the first time in my life I'd like to say no thanks i'm full.

Monet: My Daughter and Hubby are both Diabetic and I have to tell you that She has been on Glucophage for over a yr now and has constantly fought the weight issue, I don't know what you PA thinks but you don't lose on Glucophage. and my daughter is an example of the fight. She fights it and is only able to mantain. it's so hard for her. Good luck;)

Trish: My Dad also Died of Cancer, It was 18yrs ago and he was only 57, It was very hard for me, I was pg with my DD at the time. And going through all this again has really been a sore in my heart. thank you for being here for me, I appreciate it;

Fillise: I do think of the good memories, and then I'm overwhelmed with the sadness at our loss. She truely was our angel on earth. I will be better in time. I know this and I have my faith to get me though. It just is hard right now.

Country; thanks for the prayers, And the cabbage sounds great, just wish I was there for a plate of left overs.

Denise: I'm glad your feeling better, Isn't it awfull how expensive cold medicene cost, They know they have us though cause everyone buy them at one time or another. I have a bunch on hand at all times. And I'm leaning twords chatching a cold so I'm going to start taking now so I don't get it bad.

Yellow Rose: Glad your feeling better, I'm so sorry about you collar bone that must hurt like a tooth ache :sorry: I know how you feel, I'd like to stay in bed tell christmas is over too! and I'm a real fanatic about christmas, I've put up not a decoration. Don't know if I want too. Boxes are in the middle of the room, thanks to DD but I can't seem to do anymore. Well keep feeling better.

Sef: Boy I don't know about your family, but mine love it when I make Mac and cheese with the semilina, corse there use to me creating new things for them, and if it taste good they just eat it.
Good luck with the decorating.

Well I guess I need to go I've really been on a long time and my day has to get strated with the house that is. I've been going with the family sence 4:30. you all have a good one

Hi,

Rosalie: Thank you, thank you for the information about my distorted sense of smell. I had tried google myself but I guess I did not put in the correct words. This opens up so much information and I will call my ENT for an appointment. The sinus infection I had before this all started may indeed be the key to what has happened. I hope I can find a simple cure. Again, thank you so much.

JRed: I, too, am looking forward to getting together with you and some of the Texas ladies. Do you think we can start talking about something in Jan.? You know it has been almost a year now that we have been trying to get together.

Debbie: You are so funny. What would Ole Ole be, after all, without the SB wonderful group.

I am off to do some more investigation on the internet.

I weigh in on Fridays so I will post my weight then. Wednesday's are just too dang close to the weekends!

Chat was fun with Debbie and Linworthlady! We missed everyone else though....

Well, I'm not going to blow my nose anymore cause it's triggering my vertigo through my inner ear. I've had two spinning episodes today at work just from blowing my nose!!:faint:

I hope I feel better soon. The vertigo makes me nauseous from the dizziness so then I can't eat.

Lyn(Yellowrose) Glad you're feeling better. I know you can relate to how I feel. The weird smells and tastes, I believe comes from the head colds...I get that too only during or after a head cold. If it doesn't go away in a couple of weeks, I would recommend that you go see your PCP.

Jackie: Thank you for your prayers and the advice on the ring. You are a very sweet person.:flow2:

Monet: Don't take the Phentermine!! That stuff could kill you. I know we all get desperate, but I would rather see you go on Atkins then take a drug like that. Once you start exercising, you will see the weight begin to drop again. You have not been active for like 6 weeks so don't fret about it. Just start exercising as soon as you can and try to stay on plan. You're doing great on the starchy carbs, just keep it up and start walking....You will see results by next week's weigh in...:flow1:

PA's are not even licensed in the State of Florida. Therefore do not recognize them as doctors. They are only assistants to the Physician. I would also report him to your doctor. Sometimes people can hurt us more verbally then physically. We are all very sensitive when it comes to our weight. I know I am. Just hang in there and don't allow that PA to hurt you anymore...

Beth: I'm sorry you had such a bad weigh in. Try weighing in on Fridays instead. It might work out better for you. I am sending you some good vibes: :goodvibes

Crystle: It's better to stay the same, the gain. Good going!

Shirley: Glad you liked the egg nog recipe. I haven't tried it yet, maybe someday. Rocking chairs for the kids sounds really nice. Maybe if you could find boxes that would fit the chairs, then you could wrap it and they wouldn't know. Next time, when you try and get into chat, you have to wait a few minutes before you actually see yourself in the room. The same thing happened to me last night, but it does take lots of patience.

Marie: Sorry to hear you wrecked your van. The most important thing is that you're okay!

Kelly: 10 kids in your class! Wow, Amber has about 40!! Congrats on your great weight loss so far!!:cb: I like to kickbox too, but I do it in my living room. It's very hard to do for 30 minutes straight.

Susanne: 3 lbs in 3 weeks!! You are on a roll!;)

Debbie: That's great that you can have such a positive attitude when it comes to the scale. If it's up, I'm depressed, if it's down, I'm happy. Oh brother...I should see someone about this!

Are Lauren's cookies those white powder sugar cookies with pecans? I love those. They are my favorite.

Well, I was just sitting here posting and since I'm in Human Resources, I get notified of all increases in salary. One of our doctors just got a raise from 450K to 475K a year. I can only imagine what that would be like to live on...

Hope everyone is healthy and happy!

HiedieHo All!!

Taking a break from putting up some decorations. Did not go to the church to do library work. Guilty conscience. Will go to choir tonight.

ROSALIE: No never saw a mircorwave egg explode. Sounds like I don't want to either! I hope there were no injuries involved with your accident and that you are okay.

DQ: It does take a little while to get used to everyone. That's the fun of it all. Just jump in, we don't care if you mix us up! Coffee is my middle name! I always say I need it in the morning to get my heart pumping!! But actually it's just because I like it so much! I measure my oatmeal dry and it's okay by me.

ZANNE: You certaqinly are busy. I always enjoy the school plays, concerts etc.

MONET: Why bother?!? Because you are worth it!!!! You are eating healthy and that's so important. We all get discouraged at times but the support of others takes some of the gloom away. So many of us try to blame it on our "big bones", thyroid, etc. You have an legitimate excuse. There has to be help out there somewhere you just haven't found it yet. Maybe a change of doctors, there are specialists, I think endorinologists (sp?), one of our nurses can correct me! That doctor needs to be told what kind of rude employee he has!

DEB: No rutabaga is not an everyday vegetable. I can remember as a kid we had many Jewish friends. We thought it was so neat they got presents for so many days! We didn't stop to think that just because we only had one day that we didn't get any less. They in turn thought our trees were great and Santa was fun. We had one friend that gave a silver dollar each day, we weren't impressed! You do remember silver dollars? They went the way of the $2 bill I think!

FILLISE: I couldn't survive w/o my Celebrex! I've been on other meds but this work best for me. For that reason I'll cope with the weight, altho I didn't realize it was a side effect! I've tried cutting back at times when I thought I was feeling pretty good but it doesn't work. I need the two a day and when a flare up occurs I think I need more altho I don't take it.

JACKK: SNOW!?! What's that?

Well, you sit down for a minute to check the Board and an hour later you're still here. Or at least that the way it seems to go for me. This is not getting my tree up!

Take care all.

Well, 3 of the 4 Thanksgiving pounds are gone.:D Hooray!

DENISE: Dennis could really sympathize with your vertigo. And you're right, blowing your nose doesn't help.

GLORY: My thoughts and prayers are with you.

JACKIE: Maintaining is definitely better than gaining. Too much snow for me. I like 80 degree days myself. It's cold here today too.

BETH: Hop on the wagon. We'll hold each other on.

DEBBIE: Don't know about the appraisal yet. I don't know when they'll confirm everything. I'm ready to get it over with.

MONET: Hang in there, girl. I hate dealing with PA's or any dr. that is not familiar with my background. In fact, Dennis is going to his regular dr that isn't covered on our insurance because he knows his history. It costs lots more but will help us in the long run.

DAIRY: WTG on your loss. Keep it up.

ZANNE: Congrats on your loss. I'm trying to regroup after the holidays.:o

Check in later.

I'm very disappointed in myself right now- I haven't been legal since Thanksgiving. I won't tell you what all I have consumed(too much to name and to remember)- but I'm up about 5 pounds:o I need and HAVE to get back on track!! HELLPPP!!!!!!!!!

Hey All:wave:

Got a few things accomplished today in the way of present buying. Just a few more things and ELI will be done. Only Lauren's big present is having to be found-it's not easy finding her something BIG!

How exciting to get an e-mail from YELLOWROSE telling me she's going to see if she too can come to Orlando next month!:D Our get together is growing little by little. Anyone else game? That will make 13 thus far is she comes. A bakers dozen!

Interesting that today I'm no where near as hungry as yesterday. What a difference a day makes!

BETH & HEART, we have a 2-4-1 deal on wagon pick up this week. We'll be right on over to get you two! Just the fact that you posted means you're ready to get back on track. It's those who haven't looked at the board or who are lurking as they sit with their heads hanging low that we have to go and find. You two know that you need to get back on track so you can easily undo the little damage that's done, before it gets to be to overwhelming and more depressing. We're here for you both, you know that!!!:D

FILLISE, today I wish I didn't have a scale! You know it's that love/hate relationship we have! Enjoy yourself at the xmas party tonight. We have our first one to attend this Saturday. The hostess' DH is a chef and another person that works for SB, her DH is also a chef and helping him. Everyone is bringing a dish. At least I know I'll be able to eat my hummus and pita that night!

COUNTRY, WTG on maintaining this week-better than the alternative!

JACKK, kudos to you for going out in the cold to get your exercise. I can guarantee that I wouldn't if it were me. SURE, you can move in with me, but remember, life at the DD isn't easy-you'll have to eat my food. Whoops, now you know my weight loss secret!!!!!:^: I agree about men being little boys, as it's been said, the only difference between men and boys are the price of their toys! I got a shirt for ELI one time that says AS BAD AS THE KIDS. It should of said AND WORSE SOMETIMES on the back!

GLORY, I'm glad you liked that e-mail, I hope you find some strength in it. Enough is enough already, time to get past this. I can't believe this guy would go away-I surely hope they do put out a warrant for his arrest. I can't imagine his lawyer telling him he could go. What a moron!

ROSE, I'm very excited about the prospect of you coming to FL next month. Just let me know what you find and ask for any info you may need and I'll be happy to try and help! Will it be okay with the Dr. for you to fly?

DENISE, okay girlfriend, stop blowing your snots and suck them back in so you don't get so dizzy! (I know, YUCK!). I can't let the scale get to me, though it has in the past. I know I'm doing everything right and staying OP (with the exception of the bananas and some popcorn yesterday). I know it's hormonal and I just have to remember this. The scale is going to go back down for sure. Did you ever read the post I posted about the scale-if not, you should!!!!;)

SEF, don't push yourself too much, take it easy, it won't kill you to do so, you know! I always wished we could have a Xmas tree when I was a kid. One year I took my DM's plastic topiary tree and decorated it! I think between gifts it all comes out to about the same, one day or 8 days, they add up fast just the same.

MUSIC, that other pound will fall away quickly, just keep focused!!!

Well, I'm off to the urination station. I'm going to bust if I don't go now.

Will check in later with everyone!

Toodles

Debbie- I enjoyed our chat last night too (you too Denise). We have cable modem and just networked our computers with a "router". We got it at Best Buy I think. We are not real computer geeks but dh and I did it ourselves. Email me if you want to talk more about it.
I weighed in up 2 pounds than last week. I guess I didn't do as well as I had hoped.
Congrats to all you losers and maintainers. For the rest of us, let's dig in our heels and get this weight off.

Today's thought is:
“To affect the quality of the day--that is the highest
of the arts.”
--Henry David Thoreau

We are the sculptors of our day. We can mold it
creatively into a wonderful masterpiece. We control
the amount of moisture we mix into our clay. We
pound it, shape it, stroke it, love it. Others can offer
suggestions, and we gain new perspectives from
their advice, but it is finally our own creation. Our
knife may occasionally slip, or our mixture of earth
may be too dry. Any great artist suffers temporary
setbacks. Besides, imperfections in art make it all
the more interesting.

How creative can I be in my life today?

Beth and Heart and any of you out there trying to grab onto the wagon, I'm right there with you at 172 today, it was quite a blow when I stepped on the scale and was up and over 170! I can see the double chin coming back!

I can't type them all, but the most important thing I did back when I started SB, was set 10 goals that I wanted to accomplish and wrote them in a journal I tried to write in at least once a week, that was 12/31/2000 - I was at 180, later on my journey I was down to 158 by the end of 8/01. Looking back I have accomplished most of my goals, except for #10 STICK WITH THE PROGRAM, ONE STEP AT A TIME. This is what life is about, for all of us, we can only take it one day at a time. Reflect on the motivation I found today and copy/pasted for you, above.

Deb your lifeline was thrown just at the right time...thank you. I started back on a healthier path yesterday, today is day 2. Tomorrow should be better and when I get through the weekend, I know I'll be back on track.

To all of you, thanks for being there, healthwise, my next block is tomorrow, but still no treatment for leg and back. Hoping my husband buys me the software where you talk and the computer types it for you as a Christmas present, then I can respond to all of you!

I'm lurking, but my head's not hanging low. I did see my name twice so I thought I'd better pop in and let you know I'm still alive. I've gotten incredibly busy at work, and way over my head in a big website design project, and also still heavily into bodybuilding. That means eating 5-6 times a day. Do you know how much time it takes to prepared all that food? This week I have 95 egg whites on my menu :yikes: . Except for Thanskgiving, I've eaten really clean, but I seem to still be putting on muscle as fast as I take off fat ( in other words, VERY sloooowly) so the scale hasn't budge in forever. I've been starving for the past few days, tho, so I'm hoping for a drop at the end of the week. My clothes feel looser, even tho the scale doesn't move.

Deb- Happy Hannukah! Isn't it nice to get the shopping done early? At least the candle-lighting half of my family is done, and I just need to trundle off to UPS for the rest of them. DD is my big problem. I'll probably just get her some gift certs to Express or Gap or Victoria's Secret.

Monet- Hang in there! I tore my rotator cuff a few months ago, and couldn't do anything and it was so frustrating doing nothing, then those itty bitty rehab weights. Once you get the go ahead to be more active, I'm sure it will all come together for you.

Denise- The vertigo is aweful! Do you get it alot? I've only had it once, thank heavens, but it lasted for 2 weeks and I couldn't even drive. Is there some med for it?

Glory- Sorry to hear about your SIL.

Hi Fillise, Gator, Chris, Music, Zanne, Jack-k, and everyone else I've missed.

I still think every once in a while about trying to do WDW- but my knees are so bad! It's probably too late at this point to get a flight or room, anyway. Who else is running besides Deb? Are Solshine and Frog still doing it?

I deeply appreciate all the kind words. I feel like I ought to explain a bit more. I started on Atkins about four or five years ago, and was very faithful to the diet, but never lost but four pounds in six months. I got my then doctor to check me, and was diagnosed as borderline hypothyroid. They started me on thyroid hormones, and I thought it was going to solve my weight loss problems. It did not. About two years ago, and only about a ten pound loss, I changed from Atkins to SB, and I have lost more on SB, but most of it was with strong intervention by my doctor. I changed doctors about three years ago, and my present doctor is more aggressive. I took Phentermine (why are you so opposed to it, Denise? My doctor closely supervises me on it.) for a while, and lost about 20 pounds on it. In all, in the last five years of dieting, I have lost about 45 pounds. I have at least 45 more to go. I keep tabs on calories, and carbs and I eat about 1200 to 1500 calories a day, and the past few days, I have kept my carbs very low, as an experiment to see if being on the Glucophage will change how my body behaves on a low carb regiment. Losing weight is terribly difficult for me. I dropped 12 pounds when I was in the hospital, but four of it came back on, dropped off, and came back on again, and now will not budge. I get discouraged every now and then, and this is one of those times. It has little to do with the mono...if I was more active, I still wouldn't lose. I feel like even my wonderful doctor is getting to the point that he just doesn't believe me if I tell him I stick to SB, but don't lose! I should with all the medical intervention...the thyroid meds, the specially formulated thyroid hormones, ($$!) the Glucophage to combat the hyperinsulinemia that contributes to my inability to lose....

I guess I am admitting that I am at rock bottom and I need help to stay focused. It is hard to continue when you rarely see results. Deb, you asked how much I had lost since I saw you back in the spring...nothing noticeable! How I wish it were different.

Anyway, thanks for the encouragement. I appreciate more than you can know....and those of you that pray...thank you from the bottom of my heart. (If God does not melt the weight off, at least He will comfort me inspite of it. )

Hi Debbie!

This is Ronnie from the Sweettalk board a few months ago. I just now signed up at 3FC and thought I'd drop by your forum and say Hi to you first. :)

Looks like you guys have made some changes since I last stopped by. I'm particularly interested in the "Dieting with Health Problems" forum... still struggling with the diabetes and the chronic neuro disorder.

I'm still eating pretty much Low Glycemic, except I have had to reduce the carbs more. I'm not really on Sugarbusters now, but I still "think" that way... habits are hard to break :)

I also noticed several people with diabetes are on the new Weight Watchers program (new to me anyway, my wife used to be on the exchange-type program years ago.) I may look into that.

I probably won't be posting as much as I used to on the other board, but I'll try to drop in now and then.

Thought I would drop in before hitting the four poster to watch THE RACE...It's a two hour show tonight, so all the VCR's are running throughout the house to capture everything else that I watch!

MONET...My friend...GET A GRIP!!!! ..remember, you've been lying on that arse for 6 weeks.
That's going to account for the two pounds. DON'T take the phentermine...I know it's tempting, but you already know that you can do it without it. Just look at me THE DIET PILL QUEEN..IF I can do this without help like that...SO CAN YOU!!! Don't listen to that PA...wait and talk to your DR...I'm right here for you as is everyone else...get on her and talk it out if you're tempted...WE LOVE YA!!!

That said...I want to especially WELCOME OUR NEWEST BABE...MEL!!! LURK???? I don't think so...get your arse back on this board and talk to us...we've missed you!

Help, I'm burried in the snow and can't get out!!!

We got 6-7" last nite. It took me almost 2 hours to get home, ususally 25 minutes. It wasn't really too bad. Thank goodness I have 4WD SUV. It really makes a difference. It only took me 40 minutes this morning.

Got to go to a meeting, check in later this afternoon.

Glory, It just keeps coming doesn't it? I sure hope things get better for you. Prayers coming your way.

Yellow, hope you can figure out your "smelling" problem.

Denise, Are you still doing your "dizzy" exercises?

Deb, We call those cookies, wedding cookies. Yum! I'm packed and on the plane. Pick me up. I'll even eat your cooking to get away from this snow.

Sef, I remember silver dollars. It was such a treat when our grandpa gave them to us. I think we got one when we lost a tooth too.

Music, WTG on getting rid of those 3 pounds. I like 80 degrees too. We got 7" of snow.

Heartmom, Jump back on the wagon. You have been doing soo good. Today is a new day.

Linworthlady, I love your attitude. Let's just do it!

IDblond, Loved your MM. We all need to take heed and go from here. Glad you made it through day 2.

Mel glad to hear from you. Sounds like you are doing great. Loose clothes is a great sign, much better than that scale.

Ronnie, Welcome to our board. I lurk on Sweet talk and have seen your posts.

Bob, Are you wearing a big red cap?

Monet, I don't know what to say. I hate that you are so down and not losing. Are you seeing any difference in your clothes? That means much more than that scale. Hang in there girlfriend. We are here for you.

A friend sent me this and I immediately thought of you both.

THE MOST IMPORTANT BODY PART
>> My mother used to ask me what is the most important part of the
>>body.
>>
>> Through the years I would take a guess at what I thought was the
>>correct answer. When I was younger, I thought sound was very
>>important to us as humans, so I said, "My ears, Mommy."
>>
>> She said, "No. Many people are deaf. But you keep thinking about
>>it and I will ask you again soon."
>>
>> Several years passed before she asked me again. Since making my
>>first attempt, I had contemplated the correct answer. So this time
>>I told her, "Mommy, sight is very important to everybody, so it
>>must be our eyes."
>>
>> She looked at me and told me, "You are learning fast, but the
>>answer is not correct because there are many people who are blind."
>>
>> Stumped again, I continued my quest for knowledge and over the
>>years, Mother asked me a couple more times and always her answer
>>was, "No. But, you are getting smarter every year, my child."
>>
>> Then last year, my grandpa died. Everybody was hurt. Everybody
>>was crying. Even my father cried. I remember that especially
>>because it was only the second time I saw him cry. My Mom looked at
>>me when it was our turn to say our final good-bye to Grandpa. She
>>asked me, "Do you know the most important body part yet, my dear?"
>>
>> I was shocked when she asked me this now. I always thought this
>>was a game between her and me.
>>
>> She saw the confusion on my face and told me, "This question is
>>very important. It shows that you have really lived in your life.
>>For every body part you gave me in the past, I have told you were
>>wrong and I have given you an example why. But, today is the day
>>you need to learn this important lesson."
>>
>> She looked down at me as only a mother can. I saw her eyes well
>>up with tears. She said, "My dear, the most important body part is
>>your shoulder."
>>
>> I asked, "Is it because it holds up my head?"
>>
>> She replied, "No, it is because it can hold the head of a friend
>>or a loved one when they cry. Everybody needs a shoulder to cry on
>>sometime in life, my dear. I only hope that you have enough love
>>and friends that you will always have a shoulder to cry on when you
>>need it."
>>
>> Then and there I knew the most important body part is not a
>> selfish one. It is sympathetic to the pain of others.
>>
>> People will forget what you said...People will forget what you
>>did, but people will NEVER forget how you made them feel.
>>
>> The origination of this letter is unknown, but it brings a
>>blessing
>> to everyone who passes it on.
>>
>> Good friends are like stars...You don't always see them, but you
>>always know the're there.

Just remember you have a lot of "shoulders" here for you.

Mornin' y'all. Well, all of my Thanksgiving pounds are gone.:cb: Here's hoping I can keep on going down.

MONET: Sorry you are so down. Dennis is in the same shape you are in. Taking so many meds to control other things really screw everything up. Hang in there. I'm praying for you.

JACKIE: I know your post was for Monet and Glory but I appreciated it too. Is it still snowing there. No icy stuff here yet. I hope it stays that way.

Gotta go. Class time.

It is cold and rainy here--but at least we are not buried under tons of snow land ice ike some folks!

Jack-K--That was so sweet and sooo true! Thanks for sharing it. I hope you stay warm and toasty (but not too toasty--bad carbs!) today!

Mel--It is good to see you back on the board--I bet you are pretty hot by now with all that body building--no matter what the evil scale says!

BOB--Sled pick-up please! I had a bad moment at the party last night--I was good until the end when the desserts came out--then I was kind of bad as I tasted some stuff I shouldn't have tasted.

Deb--I still have so many presents to buy--I need to get my butt in gear!

Monet--so speaking of buying presents, I am thinking seriously about a shopping trip to Atlanta next Tuesday. I need to hang out some at Lenox Square, and I'd love to meet up with you somewhere--maybe for lunch or even an afternoon cup o'tea--I'd also like to visit a Harry's. I have a friend having surgery that day, so I will also have to stop into the hospital for a visit at some point. Let me know.

Hey Ronnie--welcome aboard! We do all kinds of variations of SB here--you'll be fine!

OK--I've got to get some work done. Sorry if I didn't get to everyone, But I'm thinking about you!

Susan

ps--I saw on Amazon.com yesterday that a revised edition of the SB book is coming out on December 24th. It is supposed to have much more in-depth information. A re-read may be just the thing we all need to settle down to the day or so after Christmas to get refocused and recommitted!

OK... I'm having WIT instead of WIW this week. I got on the scale yesterday... passed out (not literally) and drank more water than I've had in months..LOL. Today it's back down to 176 so I'm doing ok. I'm ready for it to be UNDER 170!!! I only have 3 weeks to meet that goal... and I CAN DO IT!

BOB - better unload the goodies out of that sleigh, cause you gotta make room for ME!! WTG GIRL on those 24 pounds!! Wish I could get that motivated!!

HEARTMOM - Girl... here I am, your twin in sin...LOL. I haven't been OP since Halloween for the most part, and the scale AND MY JEANS are showing it! I did the smart thing and gave away all my big size jeans when I outshrunk them, and now all the 14's I have here are TOO TIGHT! I have 2 pair I can comfortably wear... so I need to get my arse in gear so that it will fit in my pants! LOL!! WE CAN DO IT!

DEB - Yeah... I'm here and posting as I pout. I even cheated this morning :^: I don't know what my problem is... I just don't try. I need to straighten up and fly right!

Personal goal... be FIRMLY under the 175 mark on the scale by next WIW!!!!!!! Can I get an AMEN? LOL!

Gotta run... much to do today, and not a lot of time to do it in.

Love Y'all!!!

Can you say FIVE bowls of turkery soup....LOL I was up all night...hehe I may not have drank enough yesterday but the broth made up for it. I wish I had a tno left over but the kids liked it also. So only maybe a bowl or two. I made it with brown rice since I can't get the whole wheat egg noodles here. My favorite thing after a white meat turkey sandwich at the holidays is the turkey bone soup....yum yum.

Bob love the little sleigh....nice to start the day with a smile.

Beth You can do it....next week you will be at your goal. Mini goals are great. I need to think of one for myself when I decide I'm gonna get motivated again...:)

Music WTG....told ya they would be gone in no time. :) Is it as cold and yicky where you live as it is here in Coldspring? I don't mind the cold but wish the sun would come back out.

Jack-k I haven't seen snow in years. I think I would enjoy it for just a day or two. :)

Susan Thanks for the heads up on the new SB book. I think I would like to get the new edition at some point. Reading seems to help strengthen what we already know.

Gotta run and help the kids read. Have a GREAT day!

Love,
Crystle

FILLISE: I am sure we can work out something for Tuesday. What hospital is your friend in? I am rather flexible, so we can work around your time frame. Harry's is over here near me, in the Gwinnett Mall area. Are you adamant you have to go to Lenox? Gwinnett won't do? :) You tell me what time is best for you, lunch, or evening or whatever...and I will work it out. Ok?

Hello everyone! I am feeling a little better everyday. Still blowing my brains out though. I still feel pretty weak and tired.
It's in the 80's again...so hot! I think that's why we get so sick so easily down here because one day it's in the 80's and then down to the 60-70's and then back up..

I was invited to one of our company's parties that I do the payroll for. We only get clues until we actually do stuff. So far, the first clue is that next Thursday, I have to be in front of Kmart at 3 pm for a shopping fest. Hmmmm....Then Gary is supposed show up dressed in western wear at 6:15 pm. It will be interesting to see what happens that day!! It's all themed as Country Western so Gary will definitely like whatever they have planned for all their employees. There's only 20 of us with this company. I do the payroll for this company, this is why I was invited. I really just work for their sister company. I'm very curious to what will happen. I will let you all know next Friday what happens.

Debbie gave me a great idea about her and my mom wearing custom tshirt for the Marathon in January. The tshirts I ordered came in yesterday and were perfect. My Mom's nickname is"Super Runner" so I put that on the front with a picture of her holding her trophy at the last Turkey Trot 5K and on the back, I put "Beware of Super Runner" with another picture of her in front of all of her 1st place awards. Under the picture in the back, it says' "Walt Disney World Marathon 2003" My entire family is going to sign it with inspirational messages for her to wear for good luck. When I gave it to her last night, she was almost in tears...Thank you Debbie for your ideas and I can't wait to see how your t-shirt comes out too!! Thank you, thank you, thank you.:flow1:

I gotta get some work done today so here goes:

Tina: Congrats on losing all 4 lbs from Thanksgiving! :cb:

Laurie: Sorry to hear that you've been off plan. I heard the wagon coming to get you...

Debbie: The scale article was one of the best I've seen. I think you should re-post it for everyone since they need it the most NOW...:^:

Linworthlady: 2 lbs is probably just water weight. Drink lots of water...

IDblond: Thanks for the motivation. I got my passport photos last night and boy pictures sure don't lie. My double chin was right out there!!

Merilis: It's never too late to join us for Disney. Hope you can come! E-mail Debbie and she will get you all set up! We would all love to meet you..Your website designing sounds fasicinating. I only get the vertigo if I fail to not do my "vertigo"exercises which I have been doing, but it's all related to the inner ear so since I have a cold, it brings it right on!:dizzy:

Monet: I feel really bad for you. Phentermine and other drugs that affect the central nervous system can POSSIBLY hurt you in the future because I just don't feel that they know everything that we should know about these types of drugs. People have died from similar stuff like this that is why I am so opposed to them. Pls don't take it personally. :^: This all gets so frustrating and especially for you. I feel like I have NO excuse now after reading your plight. I would seek other doctor's opinions/help and possibly consider some type of safe surgery (if there is one) so that you can begin to feel better about yourself.
My prayers are with you always....

Jackie: Sounds like you go some snow! I wish it would snow here, just for one day! Yes, I am doing my exercises, but since it's related to the inner ear, it's going to bother me no matter what!

Beth: Glad you are feeling better now about the weight. Good luck on reaching your goals..

Crystle: Turkey soup sounds really yummy a week later!:T

Hi to everyone else and hope you have a wonderful day!

Scale is still up:( , but on the way down

Have started the Leslie Sonsone tapes (DVD) & really do like them. I have not looked at the next 2, but concentrating on getting through the first one successfully for now. For those that asked about them, YES! I think they are worth the money. I know I will not get out in this weather to walk, but like yesterday when I got home from work. I felt like I needed to lay down for a nap but could NOT. Had too much to do. GS's needed to start with homework & I needed to cook supper, so I put in the dvd thinking that it might help to wake me up & give me a little energy to get over the slump I was in. It DID!! It gave me just the boast I needed to accomplish what I needed to do.

Here's an article I can across this morning & thought that I would share it here as it certainly pertains to us! :s:

4 Ways To Sidestep Holiday Weight Gain

by Kim Droze
eDiets Managing Editor

http://www.ediets.com/news/article.cfm?article_id=6930&code=24042

It’s not hard to figure out why the holidays can feel more like horror days for many dieters. According to the experts, the average person gains 5 to 8 pounds from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day.

Too much food plus too little exercise add up to unwanted weight gain. Unfortunately, the extra pounds tend to hang around a lot longer than our post-holiday bills. Five pounds may not sound like a lot, but the reality is that many of us won’t shed the extra weight we've gained during the holidays. It's a sobering thought: four years from now you can easily be 20 pounds heavier!

The time has come to sidestep the diet and fitness mistakes that have become annual traditions -- much like the lighting of a Christmas tree or a Menorah. Fitness expert and author Brad Schoenfeld says if you can spare just 15 minutes three times a week you can put a ho... ho... hold on unwanted weight gain.

Schoenfeld, the best-selling author of Look Great Naked (Prentice Hall Press), says too many people give in and accept the extra pounds as a seasonal event.

“People are constantly eating and they give themselves a negative stimulus to exercise," Schoenfeld says. "They feel overwhelmed with what’s going on with their bodies and that’s de-motivating. Some people figure they’re gaining weight so what’s the use in exercising. They put it off until New Year’s. It’s backwards thinking.”

There's more to the article, so I posted to link also. Thought they had some good advise there. I know it spoke to me!

Got to go, we're closing on my dd's double-wide moblie home today. The 2 days of rain set us back a little, but we are definitely on the road to getting her in her home by Christmas if the weather will co-operate & the Lord says the same!! It was 2 months yesterday that her & the 3 boys have been with us. We are ALL ready for it to happen soon! :yikes: :dizzy:

Hi,

Special message to Melf and Trish:

When I saw the message from Trish in Austin, Tx, about going to Florida in Jan it started me thinking that maybe I could get a flight also. Now, Trish, I am wondering if we could coordinate schedules to arrive at the airport about the same time. I understand that Melf already has her flight so if I can get the schedules, I can start seeing about flights also. Would you two mind telling me about your plans? My email is l.r.perkins@att.net.

I am really looking forward to all the excitement.

Good morning everyone. It is cold and dreary here this morning again. Right now, it's 36 degrees. I know for all you Northerners that's like a heat wave but for Central Texas, girls, that's cold. Well, the holiday test is approaching fast. I've got a party tonight and one tomorrow night as well. Wish me luck. I decided not to get on the scales yesterday because I knew I was still up from Thanksgiving. Probably pretty lame, but I just couldn't face it.

We finally got our tree decorated. I had a realization as we were doing it, that it would be the last Christmas that Jordan would be with us to do that. I know there will be times that he'll get to come home, but it won't be the same.

I had the most bizarre phone call the other night from a woman whose husband used to work with Joe. They've been married for 20 something years and he had an affair and is leaving her for the other woman. I really feel for her but I haven't talked to this woman several years and I still haven't figured out why she was telling me all this. She must have talked non-stop for about an hour giving me the whole saga. Way more information than I wanted to know if you get my drift.

Lyn - So far SW, Delta, AA, and Continental have all had pretty similar airfares. Although SW might be cheaper for you from Dallas. I hope you can come. I'm really getting excited.

Bob - You are doing so great!!

Monet - I just have to echo what everyone else has told you. I'm sure the mono really affected your metabolism. Once you're able to start moving around again and exercising I bet it just falls off. You know we're here for you. You've got the bottle of Phentermine and you haven't been taking it because you know what it does. It might be a quick fix, but at what cost? Trust me (and I'm sure you know this), once you stop taking it, it all comes back and then some.

Fillise - I never can remember if you're an Auburn fan or a 'Bama fan. Did you see where 'Bama's coach is coming to Texas A&M. I am most definitely not an Aggie fan, but I think it will be good for the conference.

Deb - I love Russian Tea Cakes. That was one of the cookies that I can still remember my grandmother baking all the time. I can still picture her standing in the kitchen baking them. She died almost 10 years ago, and I still really miss her. Isn't it funny how certain things will trigger memories like that.

Marie - So sorry to hear about your smash up. Were you hurt?

Jeanie - We definitely need to have a Texas girl get-together.

Kelley - 10 kids in a class is awesome. We are very fortunate with the elementary that my son goes to. It's one of the older schools in our district and because of the boundaries, is pretty small. He's in 5th grade this year and only has 15. In 3rd grade there were only 13. Now of course Middle School and High School will be a different story.

Music - Congrats on losing the Thanksgiving pounds.

Mel - Ditto on what Bob told you. We miss you.

Jack-K - Yikes, snow and ice! I loved the message you sent. How true.

Beth - Can you hear the bells on the sleigh jingling??? Hop up with us.

Crystle - Yum, turkey soup sounds awesome. Have you ever the carcass to make gumbo? It's terrific. I think it's one of the best stocks there is.

Denise - Your mom's shirt sounds so sweet. Can't wait to see it.

Lyn - How cool that you're going to try and come too. I'll shoot you an email this afternoon, if the people at work will leave me alone. You'd think they were paying me to work or something.

Glory - I don't know what to say, except we're all keeping good thoughts for you.

Talk to everyone soon.

Trish

Hi Guys,
Day 4 of being OP is going well!
We are snowed in, its great to finally see snow!!
I love it!
Gotta go make gingerbread, i'm starting to get orders for small houses!! That helps with the kidos presents! I'm also getting orders for candles , I poured till 11:30 last night. I'm heading to the kitchen now to start baking. Catch you later! :)

I guess I'll head out for the ride home. Sure hope is doesn't take as long as last nite. :fr: I think it is going down to 10 tonight. Will have to cuddle up in front of the fire for sure.

I almost forgot. All you margarita girls out there, I ordered the baja bob's sf mix. It came and of course I tried it out last nite. I tried the strawberry and added a few frozen strawberries. YUM! The first drink you could sort of taste the splenda after taste, but after five or six of them (just kidding). They really were pretty tasty. I will be ordering more.

Music, Yeah on that last pound vanishing. Keep on going down. Glad you liked the post too. I think it has finally stopped snowing. It is just a mess now.

Fillise, thanks for the heads-up on the new SB book. I have been waiting for it. Yes it will be a good idea for all of us to re-read it. I got a chuckle about the toast.

Beth, AMEN! stay on track and focused on your goal and you will make it.

Country, 5 bowls of soup? You ought to be floating. It's sounds good right now though in all this snow.

Denise, Glad you are feeling better today. That party sounds intriguing. It could be lots of fun. What a great idea for your mom. I bet it is cute.

Melf, I bet all of you will be happty to be back to normal again, but you will miss them. Thanks for the article. We all need to read and heed it.

Trish, Just make good choices tonite. Ask yourself what you want more, That goodie or being thin. That treat is going to slow you down. It's not worth it. Just tell yourself you can't have that and find a substitute. Good luck, I'm pulling for you. I know what you are going thru with the tree decorating. I cried with every ornament I hung thinking they won't be on my tree next year and some have been there for 23 years. I will never be able to take them down and box them up for her.

Chris :cb: for you for being Op for 4 days. Now don't eat any of that ginerbread. You can have all my snow if you want it. Question since you are into candles, is there anything you can do when a candle burns down in the middle and leaves all the wax on the sides? I hate throwing them away and wasting all that.

Have a great evening everyone!

Oh man, stop the world, I want to get off! I just got my cellphone bill for my two daughters phones. The married one always goes over, since they don't have a phone, and hers was about the normal amount, but the younger one, who has NEVER gone over her alloted minutes supposedly used 450 more minutes then she gets! NO WAY! The bill for her phone was $140! I have my son, who runs a cellphone store, checking a few calls he made to her on his bill to see what the time is, since on her phone they billed it as a 45 minute call, which I strongly doubt. I did not need this today!

This morning, my dearly beloved hubby left me a list of things to do...all PITAs...like calling and complaining, cancelling accounts, and having to wait on hold for hours. I got a few of them done, but put off the one that put me on hold for 45 minutes, and the one that I was supposed to get ugly about. Just thinking about making that call made me feel sick to my stomach. I think I will crawl in bed and pull the blanket over my head.

What I need is a hole to hide in until March. Too bad I am not a bear...a nice hibernation would be just the thing!

DEB: My agave came, and it is all very clearly labeled Blue Agave. This company bought a lot of it, and are getting to the end of it. They never carried anything but the blue according to their catalog and web page. Do you really think they are lying about it? I hope not! The price was fantastic...they are closing it out at almost half price. The company is St. Pat's Brewing supply...

Hey All:wave:

This is going to have to be a quickie, I've been home all day long trying to get the new computer situated and it's taken me all day and I'm still not finished. One big problem, the brand new printer I bought doesn't have anything but the printer, ink and plug, none of the cd's that were suppose to be in there and as I sit and write this I 'm on hold with Lexmark and they're trying to tell me to take it back-but it was the last one! Then, they want to charge me for the cd's and instruction booklet! ARGGGGHHH!!

I'm suppose to be at my sisters in 45 minutes to take the - I haven't taken a shower!

I gotta run!

Please send the sleigh up north! We just got 10 inches of snow dumped on us, and after shovelling, then going to the gym, I marched into the grocery store and bought a big bag of cookies and a jar of peanuts and ate it all :yikes: What in the world did I do that for? I've been OP with hardly a slip for months on end now. Endless chicken, egg whites, vegies and oatmeal and I go do something stoopid like that :( .

Monet: I know that sick to the stomach wish I could hibernate feeling all too well. Also the cell phone story is a monthly occurance here, too. My dd ran up a bill of $176 a few months ago. When I took a real close look at her bill I discovered she'd been calling someone in Toronto ALOT. We have family there, but the number didn't match anyone I knew. Turns out a friend at school (Ohio State) who lives 1 block from her, kept his cell phone from home when he went to school instead of getting one with a Columbus area code! So she was making international calls (not covered in her nationwide calling plan) 3-4 times a day. She did a lot of grovelling that month. I hope everything looks better for you soon.

Deb- You are the only one running? Aww, now I really feel guilty. With all this stinkin snow out there, I can't even test out my knee. Maybe I'll try a long run on a treadmill on the weekend and see how I fare. What happened to Solshine? My SIL who was going to run the full one for her fourth marathon (she did WDW last year) is due with baby #2 on Jan 15 and obviously is not running.

Melf- Glad your getting your home back and your dd will be situated soon. It has been a long time.

Chris- I don't know how you can bake so much and stay OP! The smell would drive me nuts. Good for you!

Gotta go drink some water and try to get the crappy junk food outta my system-

Good evening everyone. I've been reading everyone's posts. This is one busy board!!! I've been struggling with sweets today. I made candy to take to a party and ate a few pieces. Will this cause me to stop losing weight.
Fillise--I hope you enjoyed the dessert. At least you didn't eat other junk.
Beth-I am struggling with sweets too. We just have to remember our goals. I know you can get to 175 by next week.
Denise-Glad you are feeling better. I love the tshirt idea for your mom. How old is she? Your mystery party sounds like fun--do you get to shop in Kmart?
Melf--I'm glad you like Sansone. I've heard good things about her tapes. I've been exercising inside too-it's even cold here in SC.
Trish-How old is Jordan? I have 2 boys in college and really miss them. WTG on getting your tree up--wish i could say the same. Did that "friend" think you had an hour with nothing to do except listen to her. That is weird.
Chris-You must have a home business. Sounds like you sell fun products. Do people buy your GB houses for decoration?
Jackie-Thanks for the margarita tip. Good news for this parrothead.
Monet-Hope the phone bill is a mistake. It seems like they never are but this one could be,. You are so nice to pay your kids' cellphone bills. Have you found a hole to sleep in? Does agave taste like sugar?
Debbie-Computers are such a pain. Can you download the printer software?
Mel-10" of snow-wow!!! Is everything closed? Is your dd at OSU--my ds is a freshman there?

I am planning to stay out of the treats tomorrow. Give me strength.

Wow-It's late... The kids have been on the computers all night, so this is my 1st chance to log in... Had a pretty good day today. Started with a bowl of oatmeal--sprinkled walnuts on top and that seemed to hold me better. It was good too-added a bit of Davinci SF vanilla syrup. I took my own lunch 'cuz school menu said beef stew. We have a salad bar every day, but there's not much variety. I took a ww pita 1/2 and filled it with turkey, cheese, lettuce, & tomato. Then a tangerine for dessert. I slipped up in the afternoon. I bought a bag of trail mix in the vending machine. (different kinds of nuts, seeds & raisins) with the intent of not eating the raisins. But I just COULDN't leave those things alone--ate 'em all... Oh well...life goes on!

I feel so inadequate! Yea, I'm a teacher and I couldn't help my 7th grade daughter much with her Pre-Algebra! Once I read how to do it it helped, but I think my "baby" is realizing that teachers (or moms) don't know everything!

MELIRIS-- I can totally relate to the cookies & peanuts! But you've been OP for 4 months? Don't beat yourself up, just get back on... Don't do what I've done and say, "Well, you've blown it now, might as well eat _____________. " You'll be fine!

DEBBIE-- Computer setup... I do not envy you! I can certainly USE computers, but I know nothing about setting them up. Thank God DH is a comp. junkie! Good luck. If you have questions about networking, I'll be glad to forward them to him!

MONET-- Quite a cell phone bill! Maybe one of those 45 minutes on-hold calls was made from the cell phone, Just kidding...I know that kind of a surprise isn't funny... Hopefully the bill will be down next month.

JACK--10 degress! Ouch! That reminds me of my days in WI and IL! I just moved South 3 years ago and I don't miss the cold. It was above 80 here in FL today  I think it's supposed to get colder tomorrow... Maybe in the 50's they say... Hey, where do you buy the SF Margarita mix? I love margaritas!

CHRIS-- I can smell your gingerbread cookies! The thought of being snowed in and baking sounds so COZY!

TRISHALOO--Don't worry -- the yucky weather will pass soon... Your in TX!
We got our tree up the day after Thanksgiving. Isn't it fun?
It must have been wierd getting that phone call, but she probably needed someone to talk to. You were probably far enough removed from her life that she felt she could talk to you about it. Had to be tough after 20 years of marriage! The fact that she talked to YOU says something about the kind of person you must be!:)

MELF--Let me know how you liked the tapes. A couple nights ago (when I was insomniac--I don't know if you read my post) I watched an infomercial. I fell for it and ordered. Something like beachbodies... Now I feel stupid for falling for it. LOL--hope it's a good deal!

DENISE-- Wow, your MOM is running the marathon? Pretty impressive! The shirt sounds adorable! The company party sounds creative and fun--let us know how it turns out to be!

COUNTRY-- Yum! I had turkey soup too. I thought I was being "good" for not eating any of the potatoes, until someone later told me that the starch cooks off into the broth... Your idea to cook it with brown rice is great. I'll try it next time!

BETH: WTG on your WIT! Keep on plugging and 175 is YOURS next Wed.!

MUSIC TEACH: Congrats on losing the turkey day pounds so fast! What grades do you teach? I teach middle school (grades 5-8). When do you start Christmas vacation? Our last (1/2) day is Fri. 20th.

HEART MOM: Been there...Done that... As we all have. You'll feel better once you're OP.

SEF: Thanks for your encouragement--I'm jumping in! You're a coffee fanatic? Funny, I really think it's the DAIRY in the latte that I die for, not the coffee, LOL! I don't drink coffee on weekdays, unless of course I stop at STARBUCKS!

Have a great Friday everyone!!!

Good Morning!

After closer inspection, I am beginning to believe the cellphone bill was NOT a mistake! She just lost it her head. We told her she is not allowed to use the cellphone at home. One call was over an hour, and late at night. I think she had them call so she could answer on her cellphone, since I would have told them she could not come to the phone if it were after 10:30. Thankfully, she has just enough money to pay for her bill. I do not pay for the phones for them...they are just in my name. They are supposed to pay me for it. Of course, the younger one has not been able to work this year due to all her school activities, and one more bill with even a minute over, and she loses the phone.

I am continuing with my no starches. Yesterday, I took one of my prescription diuretics, that the doctor told me to only use as needed instead of everyday like he had me taking them. It seemed to help, and I was down two pounds this morning, which was very encouraging. Whoever is praying for me, thank you! Consider God gave you a miracle, for it is a miracle whenever I lose!

I have a friend coming over this morning. I am hoping I can encourage her, since she has some discouraging things to deal with right now. Guess I will go and make some SB legal scones or something to serve....

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning! How are you feeling today Monet?
I've already confessed to eating some candy yesterday--I woke up today with a headache. Could that be from the sugar? My goal for today is to eat all legal foods.
How do you get those little pictures under your name?

Ellen

LIN: Hi! The little picture under the names is called an avatar. If you go to your control panel, you can look through the ones they have, or you can upload a custom one. Mine is a custom one of a rose..you can even use a picture of yourself! The candy was a no no, but we all do it. It will not set you back too much if you get right back on the straight and narrow! ;) Yes, the headache could definitely be from the sugar. Some people are really sensitive to it. I wish I was! I have to eat a ton before it makes me sick, its like my body craves it. I hope eventually, that will change! Its been three years..and it hasn't happened yet! I guess I am a hopeless case!

Brrrrrrr--it's cold here! But I have w sweet Kitten purring by my side so it seems very cozy.

Good day yesterday--planning on another one today. Some firend came up from Montgomery and we went to dinner last night--steak, salad and steamed veggies! No dessert anywhere to be found. Getting ready to make a steaming bowl of oatmeal in a few minutes.

Monet--Good morning to you too! My friend will be at Emory University hospital. I do have to go to Lenox square because I need a couple of stores there that are nowhere else. I do like Gwinett mall too and could come up that way easily after I finish at Lenox. I'll probably try to hit the hospital first then Lennox and then head up your way in the afternoon. Hmmmm or maybe it would be better to start at the northern end of the city and work my way south before the afternoon traffic jam hits. What do you think?

Linworth--yes the headache is from the sugar! I get terrible headaches when I eat sugar after being off it for a long time. One of the best reasons to stay OP!

Mel--just get back on track! We all do the slip up every once in a while!

BOB--I promise to be careful. And I am not camera shy--I just can't ever seem to get the darn things posted! I'd really love to go to NYC--but Atlanta will do! Those Bana folks are really whining today--heh heh heh. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch!

Monet (again)--I know from cellphone bills. From mid-october to mid-November I used 935 minutes on my cell phone--a $200.00 bill. I was 535 over my allotted 400 minutes. :yikes: Of course I use mine for my business--still, I just about had a heart attack when I opened the bill!

Time to get to work! I hope everyone has a great day--Deb, country, rosalie, Denise, Debbie, Jack-K, SEF, Sol, Heart, EVERYONE!

Good Friday Morning Everyone:wave:

Just got in from my walk and only walk I did, too hot, humid, windy AND foggy out there for me today. Highs again in the 80's-someone send me some cooler weather please!!!

I got the new computer situated and turned on but not yet on line. I only went through the motions of setting it up and haven't had a chance to really check it out, kids did for a bit and seemed to like it. I need to get the printer info and get it hooked up and then we'll be set, or at least I hope. It took me forever to get things situated. I wasn't able to paint as I'd hope cause when I went to get the paint, it was dried out, so it's just going to have to stay a bit off color for the time being in the 4th bedroom. Thank goodness it's not THAT noticeable. The desk was a wreck and dusty at that so that took some time to clear off, which all landed on the floor and needs to be gone through-too many papers. I was worried the monitor wasn't going to fit on the desk, it's bigger than the old one, but it just made it. BUT, for now, I'm still on the laptop.

Not sure what my plans are for the day beyond continuing massive clean up in here.

Glad to report that 2 of those 3 hormone pounds that creeped up on me went away, just have to get off the other pound, which will come in due time. See, it pays to be patient.

I'm going to attempt to try and catch up with some of the posts before the day gets away from me...

LIN, do you have to be in the same room to use the computers? Hey, don't worry about those 2lbs, I was up 3 due to mid-cycle and 2 have gone away already, and you're will too:D If you get right back OP I doubt the few pieces of candy will do harm. It's when you keep going in the wrong direction that you have to start worrying. I could probably download the driver but I don't have a clue how to set the printer up without the owners manual, so need to wait for that to come in first rather than screw something up, which I seem to so easily do!

LDBLOND, thanks for posting those MM messages, the more we have, the better. Glad to hear you are doing well, each day you get through eating OP helps you feel not only better, but gets you closer to your goal, weight and otherwise. Keep up the great work. I acutally found that software you mentioned at a garage sale but haven't put it on the computer yet, it's called POINT & SPEAK.

MEL, geez, look what the cat dragged back in! :D Maybe we should talk about you more often! Why lurk and not post??? I think you should DEFINITELY reconsider coming down for the marathon next month. You'll probably surpass me even with you knee problem. I don't plan on running the whole thing you know, esp. up those hills, no, no, no:nono: LMK if you decide so we can include you in the plans! You shouldn't miss this, not with so many of us getting together, you'd be number 14!!! Not a problem about the room if you let me know asap and I'm sure you can get a cheap flight, it's off season that time. BUT, I'm not sure I'd recognize you these days, I'm worried you're looking mighty good to Jim Purdue with all those eggs you're eating. ICK! How could you eat that much? I can't imagine the muscle you've put on, you're probably like a rock!

MONET, I know you've lost since I saw you and what you may think isn't noticeable to you is more than likely noticeable to many others. Besides, it's how you feel that's more important than the numbers (of course, this is easier to tell others than to heed my own words!) I really can't say about the agave. I know ST PATS was out of it for a while and from what I was told there wasn't any other blue agave, BUT, I do know other companys who had some stock were trying to get rid of it, like one guy who contacted me at some point, so maybe the got it from him, or someone like him. I can tell you though, it's very old stock, but as long as it tastes good, you'll be fine. I still have lots of bottles of blue and though I see some changes in it, it still tastes fine.

BOB, AR was good! I can't believe the older couple are still in it. I don't know who I will root to win it though, probably the older brothers, not the twins. Those two are a hoot!

JACKK, WHOA! Eat my cooking, you must be desperate to come down!
Door's always open;)

BETH, it's so hard to fall off the wagon and get back on for many of us, you aren't the only one. BUT, then something kicks in and you finally get that boot in the rear you needed from some unknown force and you get back on track. Just think how you had such a natural high when you were OP, how excited you were when you found new clothes to wear in new sizes. This is a long hard road that we have to travel down and there's going to be some bumps in the road, ones that may through you off the wagon, but the most important thing is to climb back on in to the wagon right away and continue on down the road. If you find you the wagon left you there on the side of the road, get up, dust yourself off, there's another one coming around the bend!:D

DENISE, ain't it the truth about the stinking heat down here-can't stand it! Glad to hear your DM liked her shirt, I'm sure it was a great surprise and that she will wear it with pride. I'm not going to have one anywhere as nice with pictures, just the words, but hoping everyone will sign my shirt when we get together. We won't be hard to spot in the crowd, at least I hope not! The company party sounds fun, and intriguing! You'll have to give us all the details afterwards!

MELF, thanks for posting that article! Hope all goes well for your DD's closing on the new place. ROSE was able to get a flight within minutes of yours-what great planning!

TRISH, seems YOU need some nice Florida Sunshine! :D Hmmm, I wonder if I could try making the RTC cookies SB LEGAL, without the powdered sugar in them using agave and nixing the powder sugar outside. Maybe I shouldn't even try, too tempting. Yes, it seems that certain things tend to remind of us people at certain times. My fav. GM died almot 16 years ago and though she rarely cooked when she came down, I do fondly remember her making blintzes. So, have you found anything out about the flight times yet? I'm eagerly waiting to hear!!!

CHRIS, you go girl! Keep up the great work. One day you'll have to post a pic of your creative works!

DQ, I have the same problems with the kids and the computer but everyone on the board knows that homework comes before Mom's time on the computer. YOU feel inadequate, PALEESE! At least you could make it through the 7th grade, Michael lost me in 3rd! I look at some of the math he does and it looks like some encrypted form of alien mumbo-jumbo. Lauren's isn't much better. Thank goodness my kids stopped asking me for help in elementary school, otherwise they'd know just how stupid their DM is when it comes to school work! I wonder if I had to do it all again just how far I'd get in school! Ask DH if we can have networking while using AOL. As far as I know only one name can be on at a time when using the same account. THANKS!

For anyone I missed, I send them a big hello.

Well, I'm outta here for now. Going to go in the kitchen and make something to eat, just not sure what as of yet.

Will check in later!

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND!

Happy Friday Gang

Well I started this post earlier and just now getting around to posting.

Very cold here. I wish I could send it to Deb and the rest of you Fla gals.

Today is my youngest DD birthday. 20. Seems like yesterday she was just born. My how time flies. I sure wish she was 2 instead of 20. Going to Lexington tonite to take her to dinner and then to my sister's to help make food for her DD's wedding tomorrow nite. This is her 2nd and she can be very strange. They are getting married in one of the husband2B's barns on the farm. We have to ride in a gator from the house to the barn. This whole wedding has been a mess. They planned it in a month and have shoved all the cooking off on my DS. I'm really not looking forward to this at all.

Bob, Yes I travel the Watterson twice a day. Not to bad though. I heard about NC not having any electricity. How awful.

Monet, You poor thing. When it rains it pours. I make my girls pay the overage when they use too many minutes. That will stop them. Sounds like a billing error to me. Hope you can comfort yuor firend. Our problems seem big until we hear of other's.

Mel, don't worry, all that shoveling and exercising will make up for those cookies and peanuts. Sometimes that demon wins out. Put it behind you and start anew.

Deb, I am having trouble with my lexmark printer too (DD fault I know). They are trying to tell me it may be faulty cartridges. I don't believe that one. Computers and accessories are so frustrating. I feel your pain. Yeah for those 2 lbs being gone. You are very patient. I'm with you on the school thing. I don't think I could do it these days.

Linworth, Yes eating that candy will cause horns to grow out of your face, you will blow up!. Just kidding, did it scare you? It probably won't make you stop but could slow you down, but most of all will cause cravings for more. Keep some SF candy on hand if you think you will be tempted. Don't overdo with that though to. I had to quit buying it. I could not control myself. Agave tastes like honey. You need to try the ritas.

DQ, don't worry about the raisens. At least they are good for you. Go to bajabob.com and there is a list of places that sell his stuff. There were some in Fla so you might be able to find it w/o ordering online. I actually bought it from lowcarbdiner.com. It was a little cheaper, not much.

Fillise, We had the same dinner. It is easy to eat out like that I think. Good for you for not having any dessert.

Well, I'm off to go to lunch with a friend. Be back later.

Well, it's weigh in Friday for me. I'm the same at 164.6! It's exciting because this is the first year that I haven't gained weight from Thanksgiving or the holidays!! I'll take it eventhough, I still weigh the same and I didn't want it to say 165!:s:

Mary: Don't worry that the scale is still up, with those new Sansone tapes of yours, it will come right back down. Loved the ediet article. Thanks for sharing it! Yes, my Mom is also running the WDW, but the full 26 miles. Since she is 63, I'm pretty worried that something horrible will happen. I just don't want her to have a heart attack or something so I really hope everything goes smoothly. :?: I am VERY worried about all this. I just don't want to lose my Mom....

Trish: It's nice that you got your tree decorated. We have to get ours this weekend. I'm a Texas gal too. Grew up outside of Houston. Lived in Dallas for 3 years, Lived in Houston 17 years too! That lady that called you probably really needed someone to talk to. It's nice that you were there for her.

Chris: You're candlemaking and gingerbread houses baking sound like fun. You sound like a very talented person and that would be really great to be snowed in and have all that fun stuff to do!

Jackie: Stay in front of the fire!! That wedding sounds very nice...

Monet: Cell phone bills are out of this world. I recently just changed my plan to $15 a month for 75 minutes. I only use mine for emergency on the road and that's it. I think they are a complete waste of money. Congrats on being down 2 lbs!! It's finally moving and I'm so happy for you.

Debbie: Sorry to hear about all the computer problems. If you can't resolve the Lexmark issue, maybe I can find a CD/manual here at work I could let you borrow. Let me know.

Your T-shirt will be just as cute. I sent you some ideas and yes, I think we WILL all sign your shirt up in Orlando. You are our inspiration!!! and we are there to support you!! :goodvibes

Susan: You are eating very healthy! Good for you!

Kelley: I know how you feel about helping your kids. Amber needed help with her Geometry and I couldn't even help her!!

Merilis: After shoveling the cold snow, you were just seeking comfort in those cookies, probably!

Becky: Candy will stall your weightloss if you eat too much of it. The problem with just having one is stopping and getting back on plan. Good luck! We only rec'd clues in reference to the mystery shopping so I will let you know what happens.

Hi to Bob, Tina and everyone else!!!

Ellen

FILLISE: It might be best if you started out at Gwinnett, and worked your way south. It would also jive best with my schedule. I am going to have to take the stupid car in Tuesday evening to get that brake switch fixed, so it will cut into the afternoon. What time are you planning on getting in to Atlanta? Emory is not too far from me, if you want to keep from driving all over the city... we could figure out someplace to meet close to there if it would be convenient. Just don't ask me to come to Lenox! If you want to hit Harry's though, it is out here by me, and we could meet around here. I know the area much better around here, so it will be easier to pick a place.

DEB: Does the agave spoil? I got a lot, so I hope not! Can you freeze it or something? It is darker than the wild agave I got from Golden Tropical, and has a taste reminiscent of mild molasses. Tom likes the flavor, which is good. If you were asking about networking computers..no they do not need to be in the same room. We have ours networked, and one is upstairs and one downstairs. You just have to have a cable run, or you can invest in a wireless router that you don't need cable for. All that stuff escapes me..thankfully, both my hubby and son are computer professionals.

Jackie-I haven't had any candy yet today because I don't need any extra horns. I've had sausage, hamburger, green beans, and 1 slice of WW bread. Oh yeah, water and coffee. Is that too much red meat?
Deb-We can use our laptop anywhere in the house with our network. It has been wonderful because we were fighting my ds for the computer all the time. Good luck with your cleanup and your puter problems.

I'm getting a whole week's worth of replies in one day - might as well print this one out for the bathroom reading if you really want to read it all. HOPEFULLY, I got everyone and, if I didn't, believe me - it was NOT intentional! Toward the end I had to start skimming really fast……

Here goes nuthin'

COUNTRY - I don't know how you manage to cook, clean AND teach along with all the other stuff us wimmen have to do! <deep bow of respect> I had an herb garden once upon a time and LOVED my homemade, well, I guess it's called pico de gallo if it's raw and salsa if it's cooked, though, right? I could eat that all day long, but I don't like Triscuits with it and haven't found a good substitute for Tostidos.

BOB - a Dr. that will spend that much time with patients is a DREAM! BTW, I'm tickled pink to hear you're doing so well!! I'm gonna sit by you in Jan. and hope some of it rubs off on me!

DENISE - The Kitty Litter Cake is NOT LEGAL! It is fun, though. I won't sabotage anyone here by posting it, but if you want the recipe just e-mail me at foxhollowvixen@yahoo.com and I'll e-mail it to you. ANYONE ELSE wanting the recipe can e-mail me too. It's a cake recipe that you serve in a kitty litter box with a kitty litter scoop and it looks JUST like the real thing - IN USE! AND it tastes good…..so I heard :s: Those men! I've always heard that God's timing is perfect and to that I would reply (when I was ready to be married) that if God's timing and man's timing would line up with MY TIMING that would be MUCH BETTER!

ZANNE - OMG, 20 BELOW?!?! You need to come to FLORIDA!! How bout in January??? :D

DEBBIE - I have a request in to the local Social Debutante here for suggestions for Saturday. She's sure to have some great ideas for us to choose from. You are too kind to me!

TRISHALOO - I haven't even started shopping!! I have no idea when I'm going to be able to go, either! I may be camping out in the malls on the week-end of the 21st. I read somewhere that gift certificates are the way to go this year because of all the discounted sales people are expecting the stores to have after Christmas. I may need a week at the Detox Dungeon before y'all will want me to climb up on that wagon. I'm having a hard time getting those sweets and cravings out of my system. So, you'll be at the PAR-TAY TOO???? I have to warn you -- you'll be addicted to spending face-to-face time with all these WONNERFUL ladies! I'm so glad you're coming!! I remember my first Christmas after leaving home and it was really hard. Last year I didn't get to see my parents at Christmas and I cried that night because "I missed spending the holiday with my Mom and Daddy". How bad is that?!? You must be a good listener who leaves people better than you found them - that's probably why she called you.

FILLISE - Of course it's a little after the fact, but, I had a dog that wasn't good in the car and the vet gave me doggie Dramamine. It kept him from getting sick and made him too tired to be rambunctious and scared in the car.

GLORY - I'm so sorry for your loss. I wish words and cyber-hugs could make things better, but I know they don't.

YELLOWROSE - PUMPKIN CHEESECAKE??? Where have I been?? I'm a sucker for cheesecake!! BUT, I'm out of agave. :( Is it still hard to come by? Did I hear correctly that you will be coming to O-TOWN for the PAR-TAY???? PLEASE say I'm not delusional! I'm glad MARIE found something for you to look into. I think I may do that, too. I do know that I used to LOVE Orange Roughy - especially the way Meister made it. About a year ago every single time he made it I couldn't eat it because it had this horrible awful smell and taste to it. Vince always ate it and never got sick and swore it didn't smell or taste funny. I always waited awake at night thinking I would have to rush him to the emergency room. He says I'm just weird. I hope it doesn't happen with other foods! especially wine and cheesecake!

JACKIE - I used to talk on the phone all day for various jobs. I will have to say it helped me be more articulate when I speak. Being from Mississippi people couldn't tell if I was saying "Five" or "Nine" and going through the drive through down here was murder…. I'd order fries and get a Sprite. But the jobs have ruined me from talking on the phone. I hate it! I will meet my friends for drinks or a meal out, but do not call me just to chit-chat - I'm horribly inattentive and can't wait to get that darn thing off my ear! (DEBBIE and my MOMMA have been about the only exceptions to that.)

MONET - Bless your heart! I know how you feel. I'm on Gluc and Zocor and neither my weight nor my cholesterol is coming down. I've been on SB for - GEEZ - over a year now, I think and I weigh about 3 lbs. Less than I did when I started. I think people like that PA mean well, but, they are too stupid to see that they aren't helping. My old Dr. used to tell me that I was a something like a Volkswagon and that all he could recommend was an 800 calorie/day diet. Needless to say, I don't go to him anymore. MARIE and I keep losing the same 3-5 lbs. Over and over again. You can join our pity parties if you want to. The thing that gets me is when people ask when my baby is due. I used to cry, now I tell them I had a miscarriage and that they should never ask a woman about her baby unless she tells them personally she's pregnant. (I'm not nice about it anymore either) I GAINED weight on the Cabbage Soup Diet (remember that one?) My story is VERY SIMILAR to yours - if you want the long version, e-mail me. :D

MARIE - I'm so sorry to hear about your smash-up, but very glad to hear our star badminton player is okay!

JRED - Looks like you're gonna have to come to O-TOWN IN JANUARY to meet your Lone Star buddies!! (hint hint hint)

DAIRY - Don't worry about responding to everyone - hardly anyone has the time for that! I open a Word doc and flip back and forth as I read the posts. Matter of fact, it's taken me all morning to get through this far, but saves me from crying if something happens to my post. WTG on your loss! I take 'em any way I can get 'em. Old Fashioned have-to-cook-oatmeal is the right way to go. I think I do 1/3 a cup, but can't remember since I haven't really been on plan lately <duck>. I bring mine to work and add hot water from the coffee maker and let it sit for a few minutes and it's ready to eat. Some days I put skim milk in the Tupperware before I leave the house and by the time I get to work it's nice and soft - room temperature, but still very yummy.

ZANNE - Way to go on your loss!!! Hope everything goes well with the investment property! Vince is starting the private note/mortgage buying business and, boy, is it interesting. With his schedule he thought it'd be fun to look into and handy since the police don't get much in the way of retirement funds.

MEL - SOOOOOO GOOOODDD TO SEE YOU!!!!!!! Glad to hear you're doing so well! You've come a long way, haven't you?!?! My ankle has kept me down - along with the SAP conversion, new house and new puppy. I'm going to be a cheerleader with the other 12 Sugar Free Babes while DEBBIE runs for all of us. FROG has had similar issues and will be missing out on the fun here, too. I'm sad that you aren't going to be able to come cheer with us. I was really looking forward to meeting you in person - you'll have to show us a picture of your new, buff body.

Hi to all: this has bee the crazyest month, everything that can go wrong does. Today is a real downer, The child advacate that was helping us to prepare for court. got everything wrong, We were her first case and she got the names mixed up on the docket and are case hasn't even come up yet. So the Jerk has more time to vacation and do what ever he wants. This has been going on sence June, Man the system works slow. Then Wed, night the night before my SIL funeral my DH boss said he had to go out of town and that they need him and there was no getting out of it. So He had to go and DD and I attended the funeral alone. I had to go as I was the one that was doing the reception after words for the family. I'm proud of myself there was a lot of SF stuff there. My BIL Is Diabetic too as were many of the guest so It worked out good.

Jackie: Thank you so much that really ment alot to me, I shall share it with my DD, I think she could use the message.

Deb: I really want to say I appreciate you and all the help you have given me, This is a very stressfull time. I'm thankfull that my SIL is laid to rest and now I'm hoping to get back on track. Good morning everyone. Brrrr was it cold last night. At least the sun is shining again. Did anyone see Emeril on Wednesday night? He was doing a show on sweet potatoes and talking about how nutritious they were. He said, "you know, they're on that ****Buster diet." I cracked up. Even Emeril knows a good thing when he sees it!

Both of the parties I went to were fun and I did pretty well food wise. One of them was a happy hour type thing and the other one was dinner. At the first one I did have about 5 tortilla chips, but the 2nd one had dinner and they had this really awesome roast chicken with caesar salad. Had red wine to drink. Now tonight will be the real test. It's a sit down dinner at a really nice restaurant but the choices are very limited. We'll see.

Jack-K - Thanks for the good thoughts. Thanks, also for the Baja Bob's update. There is a low-carb store in our little town that really caters to Atkins folks but that also means that they have tons of sugar free stuff. They have all kinds of the Baja Bob's mixes. How much did you pay on-line? I haven't bought any yet because I wasn't sure how good they would be. Glad someone else got to be the guinea pig this time.

Chris - I'd be curious to know the candle answer also. I've got one that's all bent over but I hate to get rid of it. It was from Pier 1 and I love the smell. Their candles aren't the cheapest in the world either.

Monet - Must have been the month for sky-high phone bills. Jordan and I share minutes and neither one of us ever goes over but Joe's was over by about 300 minutes. Don't you just hate opening up that bill and having the shock of it hit you in the face. Ours was almost double what it normally is. Hooray on the loss!

Bob - I missed Survivor last night. Anything exciting happen?

Mel - Stay warm. The one good thing about your slip up is that at least it's all gone and over with. Just get right back on track.

Becky - Jordan is 17 and my younger son, Seth is 11. Jordan's done early enlistment for the Marines and will be leaving next summer after he graduates from high school. I'm extremely proud of him; he's a great kid. Now it's really starting to sink in that he's going to be leaving.

Kelley - Yum, your oatmeal sounds really good. I had never thought about putting the SF syrup on it. It's cold this morning, wish I had some. Yes the headache is from the sweets. I had a horrible one the Monday after Thanksgiving and it took me all day to figure out what it was.

Fillise - Have fun in Atlanta with Monet. Bring her some good vibes!!

Jack-K - I loved the "you know you're old when" post.

I know I missed some of you. I've got to run now and get stuff ready for the party tonight. See you guys later. Have a great week-end everyone if I don't get back on the board.

I have to go ahead and post before our DSL line goes down again.

My girlfriend from high school makes butter cookies with a glazed icing every year for Christmas. She has made me a bath for 10-15 years. They are my favorite. Last year I told her not to make me any. Today at lunch she said she was making them tomorrow. I had to tell her not to make me any again. Boy do I miss them. But I could eat a 100. That's the problem. Maybe next year I can get 1 or 2 from her.

Denise, Isn't it a great feeling not to gain weight during the holidays. After TG dinner everyone was complaining how full and miserable they were. Not me. I felt great. Yeah for you being under the 165. Don't ever see it again.

Linworth, I don't worry about too much red meat or fat. I know now I probably will need to watch the fat because I have slowed down so much. But just starting out, I wouldn't worry. I'm not a big chicken fan anyway.

Solshine, I wish I could find a replacement for tostidos too. Triscuits just don't cut it. I'll work on it. So far I 've found replacements for pretty much everything else.

Glory, I'm proud of you for having all the sf stuff at the funeral. Come back on the wagon and go from here. I don't have much faith in our justice system either. My DN has been fighting her eax for 2 years and he never has to do what the court tells him and never gets in trouble and he is a drug addict plus other things. He has oweder her money which the court has told him to pay for 2 years and still has not and nothing happens to him. Only costs her more and more money.

Trish, WTG on doing great at the parties. I always carry some triscuits in my purse so I have something to "dip" with. Not the greatest but better than going off-p. They should have something tonite legal for you to chose from. Keep in mind your "goal" and you will do great. I think for 2 bottles and shipping it was $18.00+ cents. for the rita mix.

Everyone have a great "OP" weekend. I won't be back until Sunday or Monday.

Lova ya guys.

Hi Everybody!

I am soooo excited! I made my plane reservations last night after talking with Debbie. That girl is great .(even though she has no Texas accent) My plane will arrive 10 minutes from when Melf arrives and leaves about the same time.

My daughter is here and we need to plan for the shopping tomorrow, so, I will read and respond more later.

Ok- I'm seriously thinking about this. The one thing that really puts me off running is the getting to the start at 4:30 am part.

When are most of you who are flying getting into Orlando airport?

What's the scoop on the hotel?

Do I need to rent a car?

When is everyone leaving

Deb- Just how fast are you planning on running this? How hilly is the course? I don't really remember any hills at WDW or Epcot, but I haven't been there for about 5 years (and I wasn't running around it then, mostly standing in line LOL).

I guess that about covers it.... mel

I just got a motivational wake up call from our fearless leader :)
It sure did help motivate me anyway!! It's always nice to know someone (many someones on this board!) is out there rooting for you and believing in you even when they can't even see you... give you a great feeling!

I haven't gotten on the scale... I'm holding off until WIW like a good girl  Yeah right... who am I kidding, I'll be on it later today...LOL.

Anyway... I've started off today OP, and I'm planning to stay that way. I need to get some water going on today, I haven't been drinking any!

Hope everyone's having a good weekend... I'll get back on soon. Can't stay on long, this POS computer locks up. Thanks for all the encouragement!!!!!!!

Love Y'all!

AFTERNOON EVERY BUDDY!!!

BOB Just got back from the mall and if you don't have to go DON'T!!!
What a mad house....makes me not want to shop! I've still got a lot to do and no spirit to do it with!. I've got a living room full to wrap and box to sent to KY and haven't even started it yet! I just gave up and came back home! Maybe tomorrow..I'm going to Tampa with a friend to take her husband to the airport and we're going to the FRESH MARKET! :cp: :bravo: :cb:  I've got to get some pimento cheese and pita's...might pick up some of their mustard pretzels too..they are wonderful! Hopefully I can get a few things when we stop at the mall there!

It's beautiful over here today...last nights cold snap has settled to around 65 degrees...good open window temp.. Skeeter is patiently waiting on his bath, and FRIED GREEN TOMATOES is on the TV...

I'm off to get some things done..I've got to go to the HFS and get some peppermint oil..I'm out and I'm addicted to burning it every day! Got to get my fix :s:

The margaritas sound good, I'm gonna have to try them. The gingerbread does not
tempt me, I am more tempted by french fries and pizza.
It sounds like the candles you have , have the wrong size wick. They do not heat up enough to get a full melt pool. Unfortunately there is nothing to do , but not buy that brand any more. :(

As far as passing up the cookies, YOU GO GIRL!!!! :cp:
Its definitely best not to even get near them, which is what I am dreading in a week or so when I start baking xmas cookies. I can pass up gingerbread, but will I be able to pass up cut-outs and thumbprints and .......I won't list anymore.....I'm getting hungry.

Monet
Hope you got the cell phone thing straigtened out, those bills are pretty confusing!

Debelli
I so want a new computer!! Glad to hear you got one!! Did you get a pentium 4??
I am intending on creating a web page sometime soon. I have a AOL Homepage, BUT for some reason I am not able to access it....I get messages from the Easy Designer....
I can't figure it out, if I could I could post the pics. :(

BOB
I love your graphics!!!

Lin
I just mostly sell to friends and family. Yes the gingerbread are for decoration only, unless it is ordered to be eaten. I made a bunch up in October, I know I would not want
to eat something that old. So I tell them I will make them a fresh one for eating.
Most ppl don't want to eat them.

Dairy Queen
I noticed in one of you posts you said someting about sugar free cappacino or something like that. Is this some sort of mix?? I would love to find a good sf hot choc or something like cappacino. Alot of them have the fake sugar flavor, that gags me. I would rather itnot be too sweet.Any ideas?? I love hot tea but I'm getting tired of it.

Denise
Way to go on doing so well!! It is so exciting when you overcome something!

Trish
I hope you can find something OP to eat tonight! The salad and wine is always a great combo! Emeril knows about the Buster diet, it originated in New Orleans. He has some recipes in the book.
About your candle, if it is bending over I am assuming it is a pillar?? As opposed to a container candle. Not sure why it would be bending over, unless the wick was uncentered,
which would cause it to burn unevenly. If it is a pillar and you want to keep burining it, maybe you could find a jar or a glass of some sort to stick it in, you want to be sure that the wick is not burning too close to the side of the jar, it could heat up and break.
I would not burn it free standing if it is bending, or you will have wax every where. YIKES.
Survivor is not really exciting this season, Not much going on, But I still watch.....LOL.

Mel
How you doing over there?? I know I am getting tired of the extreme cold....and now the snow.

Beth
Glad to hear you are feeling more motivated!! I bet you stay 100% on track today!!

Mel

Yipee! Just booked my tickets, got a great rate! Can't wait to actually meet you all that will be there. I ran 5 miles this morning and it took a long time. You girls better find something entertaining to do while you wait for me and Deb to appear at the finish line  And pray for nice weather!

Chris- Yup, I'm real sick of snow and cold already! it was 16 degrees this am when I went out for the paper. Luckily the roads are finally clear, cause I think everyone ELSE forgot how to drive in the snow since we hardly saw any last year.

Linworth: I think it was you that asked, yes, my dd is at OSU and is a junior (gulp, already). She's a chemistry major and plays on the lacrosse team. What does your son think of it? I know I was very nervous when Amy picked the largest single campus university in the country!

Beth- Come on back on the wagon girl! You did fabulously for a while- just get your had abd butt in gear again.

Hi guys, If you could do me a favor and check this link, it is the pics of last years gingerbread stuff. My sister said she could not view it anymore. If that is the case I am going to try to delete the page.

Thanks

Howdy all! Today was pretty much like any other Sat. cleaned some dishes..straightened some cabinets. But I did get to go out for a nice b-day dinner with the family. We went to Pizza Hut where my oldest works. I splurged on a piece of pizza and it was soooooooo good. I have to admit I did have a couple of my husbands top crust also....:( :D But yummmmm No cake this year like last year...LOL Hopefully I will de-carb soon. I'm finding it easier and easier to sneak no-no's into my days.

I finished Christmas shopping for 3 of the 5 kids..woo hoo!!! That is a big stress reliever right there. The little ones are so excited. It's going to be hard for them to wait till Christmas.

I also got all the corn syrup....chocolate bark and marshmellow cream to do my baking and goodie making. I'm going to need prayers to keep my grubby little fingers out. I tasted the divinity the other day and kept taking little pieces of nuts out..bad bad bad...

Sounds like it's gonna be a blast in Florida next month. My prayers, thoughts and warm wishes to all of ya'll getting together.

I hope everyone is safe and warm this weekend.

Love,
Crystle

Chris-I can see the page with your gingerbread on it. They are so cute!!! You really are talented.
Mel-Yes my son goes to OSU. He was raised in Columbus and has wanted to go to OSU since he was little. So far he really likes it although he doesn't even have 1 quarter under his belt yet. He lives in a dorm on south campus-where does your dd live?
Crystle-I'm glad you enjoyed your birthday. And that your shopping is getting done. Good luck making your candy. Is divinity hard to make?

BOB-Are you getting warmer yet?
Glory-Making the food for the funeral sounds like a lot of work. I hope your life starts getting a little easier.

Hello to everyone on board--I'm going to attempt to get some decorations up--very unmotivated today. I am having one of those days when I am hungry all the time. I've already eaten 2 meals and now I'm having swiss cheese melted on triscuits. I don't know what's wrong with me.

Thanks for the warm welcome, Jackie and everyone! I seldom go to Sweettalk these days... seems like the gang that was active when I was there have all gone now... don't know anyone these days. I posted a brief history over in the Dieting with Health Problems forum.

I've been just a wee bit reluctant to reply. You all seem to have a great fellowship going here... but this particular forum is kinda like a whole room full of people talking at once... I've never been any good at that in real life, and discussion boards haven't improved upon that skill.
