Today is going to be a great day
Filled with success and determination
You don't have to climb mountains
Or swim the English Channel
All you have to do is set a small goal
And see it through to the end
It could be as simple as eating less
Or walking farther than before
Once attained you feel so good
On top of the world as they say
Do this for yourself today
And feel the wonder of it all

Brr, it is cold out. More snow is on the way.
You are all doing so great helping the newbies and giving such sage advice. Thank you for sharing for all of us so we can learn and to do better.
I have had a lot of interesting thoughts run through my head. I don't need to eat that, I am taking charge, I feel so much better, food can be an enemy as well as a friend, try new things, change habits, reach for a goal, and so many MORE.
South Beach may be a "diet" but it is so much more.
Enjoy your day and may you feel some of what I am feeling.

Good morning, Marcie! Thanks again for the encouraging words. I'm glad to hear you're feeling so fantastic and I hope it continues throughout your day!
I'm about to take the girls to school and then the baby and I are heading to meet Tom at a Thai place for lunch. Yum! The good thing about the Thai place (besides the delicious food) is that I'm not tempted to eat dessert. We're going to stop by the commissary on the way home and do the weekly shopping. I'll have to finish up the laundry when we get back, but it'll be worth the delay in getting chores done to have lunch with my guy. :)
01-21-2011, 04:48 AM
Kara, enjoy your lunch. What do you order? Have never had Thai food.
Lots of walking at the commissary. Choose wisely and get something new to try.
01-21-2011, 05:45 AM
Windsong: My mom loves Windsong too. :) I'm allergic to most scents so don't wear any myself, but a whiff of Windsong, while leaving me gasping for breath, always reminds me of home.
Kara: I love Thai! Darn those noodles and rice! Our favorite Thai place is always out of brown rice, which is so disappointing. We haven't tried to go since hitting the Beach because leaving when we find they're out wouldn't be an option. ha ha!
I may buy running shoes this weekend. Maybe. Then maybe - possibly - start C25K. Maybe.
01-21-2011, 05:54 AM
Good morning everyone!
Marcie- Glad you are doing so well.
Kara- Have a great lunch out...sounds like fun!
Annie-Shoes would be a good motivator to start the C25K
It's Friday but we have a full day of school tomorrow to make up a snow day. YUCK!!!! I have already ordered a salad for my lunch- we get to order out on Fridays so I know I will stay on plan! Hope everyone has a fantastic Friday!!!
01-21-2011, 06:03 AM
Hi there Marcie, Kara and Annie, It's nice to see the Daily started. :) Since we began to use more consistency in the title, it's much easier to find. It sounds like you three are all pumped and positive for this last day of the week.
My Friday starts off with gym for sure this morning. I'm still a bit sore from my slither/slip/slide on the porch Wednesday but a gentle workout should help. If not, I'll at least be able to say I did it! ;)
When I get back, I have the usual "stuff" to tackle including a small forest of broccoli to be made into soup. Broccoli is not my favourite veggie - even roasted - but I seem to always have a lot around so broccoli soup is on the menu for lunch today. A bit of cheese does help.
Book club is tonight and I still have a hundred pages to read. :yikes: We're reading The Glass Castle which I've read before. I thought I remembered it from a few years ago but realize I don't remember enough for discussion. The dogs will be happy to spend some couch time with me today. I seldom get a chance to read during the day so they'll be in shock.
Litar, I'm astonished? School on a Saturday? Is it a make-up day? Good for you in ordering a salad in advance. Be sure there's some protein in it, OK?
Time for another coffee and a Beachy breakfast before I head out. Enjoy your Friday and be good to yourself. :cofdate:
01-21-2011, 06:06 AM
Good morning early risers :coffee2: Hormones have not been kind to my sleep patterns but at least I get to wake up to cheery conversation :)
Marcie - So happy to hear that things are falling into place for you. It was like that for me when I started. It just all made sense.
Kara - I love, love, love Thai food. Ours doesn't serve brown rice so I just skip the rice altogether. Now I'm thinking of chili and basil tofu  Such good veggie options
Annie - Happy exercising :)
Lisa - Some schools around here have another snow day today! It's been a crazy two weeks. How nice to have a place to order from with good salads.
There's snow here but not as much as the last two storms. I will head out on the road but not too early. I'm looking forward to a weekend without major plans. DW is doing an open mic tonight so dinner at our little local cafe. Then a weekend of cleaning, cooking, and exercising. Oh, and avoiding the single digit temps outside!
Happy Friday friends
ETA - Good morning Ruth. Wish I could help you with that broccoli. It's one of my favorites. I love the soup with the white beans and a little bit of really good cheddar (so much tastier than a lot of rf cheese IMO). Hmm, have to add that to next week's meal plans :) I hope the gentle moving and stretching works out some of the kinks. It always amazes me how many places ache after a slip on ice.
01-21-2011, 06:12 AM
Good morning Chicklets!
Mother Nature is letting us know it's wintertime. :snowglo: I was tempted to stay in my PJs all day, but then decided I'd better get dressed so I can go out and help Jake deal with this snow.
I'm going to put on a nice pot of Black Bean & Sweet Potato soup and make a batch of Black Bean Brownies, but other than that, I don't plan to do diddly-squat. :p
01-21-2011, 06:14 AM
Cottage - you have convinced me that one of my requirements with the job negotiations will be a 4 day week. Making soup and watching the snow from inside sounds like a perfect day.
I may have next week's menu completely planned just from reading the daily thread ;)
01-21-2011, 06:25 AM
All you have to do is set a small goal
And see it through to the end
It could be as simple as eating less
Or walking farther than before
Thanks, LadyWindsong. I've been busy getting things done this morning, but I sat down and really thought about this for a few minutes. I have a saying I use alot, which is "I need to make a better choice." Today, I'm taking my Mom to Denver for a meeting and I have 4 hours to do whatever I want. I used to go eat crappy food and I don't anymore. Today, I'm going to set a goal of taking a walk while I'm down...and sitting down for a healthy lunch(think I'll do Thai).
Tonight, we have dinner at the local Sr. Center, for a fundraiser. It's chili, so not too hard to eat OP. That's about it for me.
Ruth, your day sounds great! I love getting exercise in early, then a plop on the couch for required reading while healthy soup simmers sounds like a perfect day. Glad to hear you aren't too sore from your slip-me, either.
Annie, Yay! for running shoes and C25K!
Kara, enjoy your lunch with DH and a walk through the commissary.
Linda(cottagebythesea), I think you've sealed it, I'm going to pick up some sweet potatoes today. TGIF for big snow! Enjoy your day at home.
Cyndi, ouch for hormones affecting sleep AGAIN! Fortunately, it sounds like you have a great weekend ahead starting with open mic tonight. I was already thinking of super spicy tofu/veggies and the restaurant I have in mind does have brown rice. Take care!
Marcie(LadyWindsong), thanks for getting us started on such a positive note this morning. You are absolutely right...food can be an enemy or a friend. I have some old favorites that I do miss from time to time, but they aren't as satisfying as they used to be, and I'm finding that I get the most satisfaction from making a totally healthy dinner that both DH and I enjoy.
Have a great OP day, everyone! I'll pop back in if I can...although it's getting late, and I have lots to do.
I'm so happy that we have so many new and fun friends here at the beach!  to all our regulars AND newcomers!
01-21-2011, 06:27 AM
I can't believe I didn't see this thread - I went over and started another - mods can you just delete? I'll just repeat myself here. I lost 2 lbs. last week and broke the 160s. I'm happy but now nervous about heading into Phase 2. I've got to track myself really well here and for various reasons must be militant about having one carb a day at the exact same time - last time I tried this and was all over the place and very disorganized about it. Next week I'll add a piece of fruit with my afternoon snack and see how that goes.
Edited by Ruth:
Hey - can it be true that no one else has started this yet? I lost 2 lbs. last week!
Now on to the hard work of Phase 2 BUT I am looking forward to having some brown rice sushi today and some wine tonight! Hope everyone has a great one...
01-21-2011, 07:10 AM
Marci - Yes, snow for us too after you.
Kara - I can't remember the last time I had Thai. Yum!
Annie - Don't skimp on those shoes if you are going to be running! I tried c25k for a week but had back issues. I would like to do it again someday.
Litar - I've never heard of having to make up on the weekend!
Ruth - Sorry to hear you are still sore:( My husband is not a broccoli fan but is trying to eat it for the health benefits. I'm fine with it.
Cyndi - Is she a comic? Fun.
Linda - I've felt just a bit guilty sitting inside while my DH did all the shoveling. Just a bit. That soup sounds yummy. Is the recipe on here?
Debbie - Well, you could always go to my husband's favorite store! He could easily spend 4 hours in REI.
Matilda - Woo hoo!
My snoring DH is driving me crazy:( I guess I don't notice it as much when I am sleeping better. Just needed to vent.
Today we are going to order the pictures from our photo shoot. And I have what I am told is a great new book to read. Other than eating well, that's about it for lazy me.
Have a great day everyone!
01-21-2011, 07:41 AM
Karen ~ the recipe is from Kalyn's Kitchen. It's fast and easy to throw together, and it tastes so good! The lime really enhances the flavor.
01-21-2011, 07:53 AM
Hello chicks! I haven't been posting much because we were all sick with the stomach flu last week. We were supposed to leave Friday for a FL vacation, but that's the day it hit the kids so I had to cancel. I'm on a low Iodine diet right now by doctor's orders, which is way harder than the South Beach Diet! I think I've got another week on it, then can get back to Phase I.
Also, watch out for my DD1 who has found her way to this forum! She has been on the Beach for several months and is doing really well. She loves her veggies now, and as a kid I could not get her to eat any! She is a big exerciser - much better than me in that department.
01-21-2011, 07:58 AM
Good morning ladies.. Hope everyone is doing fine today.. I work today then off tomorrow and Sunday..wow.. 216.6 again today.. TTOM is almost finished.
So at least I'm not up any weight..
Going fix me a cup of coffee.. Take care all.. :) Lanee...
01-21-2011, 08:10 AM
Marcie, I always get something vegetable-ish since I'm vegetarian. I don't really care for white rice so it's easy to just eat the veggies. I love Thai food but was just recently introduced to it.
Annie, go for it! I would highly recommend going to a running store and getting an expert opinion on which shoes would be best for you. I accidentally stumbled into a great pair on my own and the running store confirmed they were good for my foot and stride type but I was lucky. It makes such a difference if you have good shoes! Mine make me feel like I'm running in slippers. I love them!
Lisa, good idea thinking ahead and ordering your salad! I love eating salad out because I don't have to go through the hassle of chopping everything up myself.
Ruth, I'm not very good at remembering books either, or movies. Tom can remember movie plots in detail and I'm always amazed that he recalls so much. Yet when I ask him to do something for me he forgets as soon as the words are out of my mouth...
Cyndi, I also love good cheddar. We've been able to get some amazing cheeses while here in Europe! I bet you get some great ones, too!
Linda, I just got some sweet potatoes without a plan for them so thanks for posting about that soup. Is the recipe in the recipe section of the forum?
Debbie, drive safely and enjoy the conversation with your mother!
Matilda, congrats on the two pound loss!
Karen, I wonder if those nose strips would help your husband at all? No personal experience because Tom rarely snores and, honestly, I'm such a deep sleeper and I fall asleep before him almost every night so I might just not notice. LOL
Schmoooooooodle, glad you guys are feeling better! Why the low Iodine diet? I've never heard of such a thing!
Lanee, enjoy your weekend off! Do you have any big plans?
Well, I get the Stupid Award for today! As we were leaving the restaurant, Tom grabbed two lollipops out of the big bowl they had and asked if I wanted one. So I say, "Yeah, I haven't had a lollipop in forever!" and take one. Duh. Maybe I should have thought about WHY I hadn't had a lollipop in forever. Oh well. The only thing that happened was that my teeth felt all filmy after I ate it but a good brushing will fix that. I'm such a numbskull.
01-21-2011, 08:18 AM
Good Morning from HOME!
Snow day today. I didn't expect it but I guess the storm track shifted slightly. It's been a weird week anyway, yesterday was our only full day of school for the week. I've got enough chicken chili to feed an army, I was bringing it to school today. I need to decide if I'm going to freeze it or parcel it out to friends and neighbors.
Annie, my shoulders are killing me this morning. I checked out your link to 100 pushups, and decided to go for it, too. I did the first day's workout yesterday. Most of my workouts focus on lower body and abs, I didn't realize how poor my upper body strength was til I did the pretest. :yikes: I'm so glad you posted the link, I figure even if I never make it all the way to 100, I'll at least improve things. lol Good luck shoe shopping!
Kara and Debbie, this must be the weekend for Thai food. Last night I made plans to meet my son at a Thai restaurant in Lewiston when he gets off work tomorrow. I always just skip the rice, too.
Windsong, I like that scent, too. I was a big time John Denver fan in the 70's though, and Windsong was one of my favorite albums.
Lisa, bummer about the make up day tomorrow. :( We occasionally do Saturday make-ups but attendance is always very low. We're supposed to do 'academics as usual' but most schedule special things in hopes of luring kids to school. Have you got anything special planned for your students?
Ruth, I love broccoli. :broc: Raw or any way you cook it. Enjoy your morning at the gym and your afternoon with a book!
Hi Cyndi, not to be pushy but you should post the link to Julie's website again. Have a nice time tonight. Think you'll fit any snowshoeing in this weekend? (oops, never mind. I just reminded you said you were going to avoid the cold temps. :o)
Linda, it's 8:10 and I'm still in my PJ's. It's too early in the storm to shovel here so I'm not even feeling guilty about it.
Matilda - :carrot: on breaking that barrier! I absolutely LOVE going down a 'decade'.
Karen, your DH and mine have more in common than I realized.... unbearable snoring AND they can get lost for hours in REI. How's the meditation going?
Schmoodle, yikes! I'm sorry you folks have had such a lousy week. :( I hope everyone is feeling better now. I've never heard of a low iodine diet, I'm sorry it's so hard. (Hello to Schmoodle's daughter if you're reading this!)
Well, I'm thinking I should take advantage of my unplanned time at home and go hit the wii fit.
Enjoy your Friday friends.
ETA: Hi Lanee, I'm looking forward to the weekend, too!
Kara, I'm sorry, but I'm giggling about the lollipop. I can't tell you how many time I've done similar things - usually at kindergarten snack time!
01-21-2011, 08:31 AM
This week has felt so long, which is crazy considering I did not have to work on Monday. It has to be, because of all the meetings this week. I also am expecting TOM today or tomorrow, so I have been cranky.
Today is my DH's birthday and last night we went out with the family to celebrate at Biaggi's(Italian). It was good, but I had to much bread. Literally had to tell myself to stop. Luckily, the rest of the meal was OP.
Have a great day!!!
01-21-2011, 09:05 AM
I thought I'd pop in early! This place has the earliest Early!!!
So after wallowing in almost 3 months of carbs and cruddy eating I'm back on the towel as it were. kinda

Kara how was thai? I LOVE THAI
Cottage Seriously Im moving in with you! or at least into your kitchen to clean up your left overs!

01-21-2011, 09:09 AM
Good Morning all :)
No school for me today! We don't have class Friday's so today is the start of my weekend, and I was a busy bee studying yesterday and am up to date with my reading, and have my schoolwork done. So this weekend, I'm catching up with Tivo and relaxing. I'll be doing some treadmill work too.
One thing about my weekends is I tend to fall into being really lazy. It seems easier to work out/stick to plan during the week because I'm already busy. I have to change this mindset!
We got more snow last night and my driveway isn't looking good at all, so no gym this morning. Instead I'm going to work the treadclimber today.
So I got on the bloody stupid rotten scale this morning. I KNOW! It's only been 4 days since I started phase 1 but I was having an unconfident moment. I'm down 1.2lbs since Monday, so I can't complain. I might send that scale to work with DH and tell him to keep it there, it's too tempting to get on it every day. If I see any upward change I know I'll lose my drive.
Today I'll be making the meal plan for next week, and heading into town this afternoon to grocery shop once it warms up some. DH just called on his way to work to say the roads are very slippy, and TN drivers can't drive on the best of days.
Tannersmom - good for you knowing when to stop with the bread, me I just inhale it .
Heidi - I'm making bison chili this weekend. I can't wait, haven't had chili in a long time.
Annie - when I buy new running shoes I always feel more motivated.
litar - lucky you being able to order out for lunch at school!
Ruth - I hope you get to feeling better
Cyndi - our roads are very slippy due to last night's snow, my driveway looks like a ski ramp
Cottage - I have that pj feeling too
Kara - I love thai food. Love it! can't wait to have it again if only as a very special treat, we have the best thai restaurant in huntsville, al.
Lanee - AF will be gone soon, don't let that scale get to you
Schmoodle - hope you get to feeling better soon, stomach flu is the worst
waistingtime - I'm usually the one driving DH up a tree with my snorring teehee! Still, I sympathise.
Mmckellan - grats on the loss! don't be afraid to move on, you can do it.
Lexxis - goals are the best way to go. small goals help motivate and keep us on track.
I hope I didn't miss anyone, first time doing mass personals!
Happy Friday all whoop whoop!!! :carrot:
01-21-2011, 09:50 AM
I read, but don't have time for personals today...Everyone sounds really upbeat and motivated though - just in time for facing the weekend ;)
Kids are off of school today and Monday, so I took today off to cut down on the darn daycare bill. Trying to get a playdate together for my son, and then it's FAC with some of the ladies.
It will be my first OP FAC! I'm making pumpkin curry soup and a HUGE salad. Now I just have to stay away from the inevitable bevy of wine that the girls will bring over. :p
Happy Friday Everyone
01-21-2011, 10:00 AM
Heidi, it's OK if you laugh at me. I did. :) Enjoy your snow day! I say freeze some of the chili and share some. Sounds like a good compromise to me.
Jasmine, sorry about the crankies. Maybe treat yourself to a good cup of tea or a movie or something to get your spirits up? Sometimes I hate being a girl.
Kierie, glad your day one went well! Here's to eating healthier and feeling better! The Thai food was super yummy! I've been getting into some world cuisine lately, eating Thai, Indian, Turkish, Korean, and Nepalese food. It's always fun incorporating different recipes into the rotation!
LAK, I always do my workout first thing in the morning so I have no excuses for missing it. Even on the weekends (even though "first thing in the morning" is NOT at 0530 on the weekends :)).
Amy, have fun on your day off and enjoy your time with your friends! What's a "FAC"?
01-21-2011, 10:30 AM
Had to go into work because I had a meeting otherwise I would have been allowed to do wfh boo
The kids had to go to school not quite sure about that one the roads in our town were not the best and the high today is only in the teens, my fingers about froze off when I was scraping my car.
Well a co-worker brought in dougnuts this morning and my oatmeal was not sticking to my stomach...they were calling my name but instead I grabbed the yogurt I brought from home and I am good.....small steps
Have a good day everyone.
01-21-2011, 10:53 AM
:brr: Wind Chill Day here!!! Anna gets to skip out on school and read today. Lucky girl!!! She got her Kindle too and LOVES it.
Chris and I walked outside this morning and saw a husky in the neighbor's yard! They had a boxer and a spaniel before, so I'm not sure what's going on, but it was a BEAUTIFUL dog! I can't wait to take Voo out so she can sniff nosies with it! She is in LOVE with the German Shepherd across the street, Dakota. He's her boyfriend. It'll be nice to have another doggie friend in the neighborhood though!
Anyway plugging away at work. Anotherbusy day. I'm ready for some warm weather!!! At least they finally plowed the streets yesterday afternoon though. Gotta get back to the grind - hope you all have a great day :D
01-21-2011, 10:58 AM
I enjoyed the movie, Green Hornet, last night. My Facebook has been deactivated for a second time and I'm considering just letting it go and not being on Facebook anymore. It's a shame because that's how I interact with most of my friends but it is what it is!
01-21-2011, 12:12 PM
Hey Everyone! Just checking in. Hope everyone has a great day today. Today I'm buying tickets to a desert music festival- coachella. My husband really really wants to go, but I'm not super excited about it. However, I would enjoy 4 days outside in the sunshine!
My scale hasn't been to kind this week so I'm going to ingore it for a few days. I'll weigh in again after I've done my long run on Sunday. That'll teach that pesky scale!
Busy busy day today, so I better get cracking!
01-21-2011, 12:38 PM
LISA Love new puppies our new neighbors have a golden and I want to meet them just to meet the dog!
FOOD O How was the movie? we're probably going to see it this weekend
Kara you cook that food too? ok so I'm moving in with Cottage and you!
USCarchie I want to go to Coachella!! You'll have such a good time!
Pearl Good Job Resisting the doughnuts!!!
ok off to put some eggs on for lunch!
01-21-2011, 12:49 PM
KO, the movie was action packed and had moments of greatness, lol. The villain was funny and reminded me of my Professor, Vladimir Tismaneanu when he made a statement, it was "Come on" but the way he said it, was brilliant.
