I've been chugging my water like a sponge soaking in water! It's helping. I've also been using the loo alot because of it but that's the price to pay. Has anyone read "A Course in Weight Loss" by Marianne Williamson? It sounds intriguing that fear is at the root of the Weight Loss battle. I will buy the book in February. Is anyone attending school this semester or year? My class starts on 2/7 and I will start limiting my internet and technology time to three hours a day when it begins.

Good morning, Okie!!! :) No school for me except for training classes required for work. I've been through so much schooling that there's little more I can do, LOL Good luck w/ your education adventures, though!!! :)

Thank you to all of you for your kind words on my 5K. I think it's awesome that some of you are thinking of participating in one now!!! It's worth the experience...really gives you a feeling of accomplishment, regardless of your fnishing time. I hope to one day work up to at least a half-marathon. Seeing the people who finished it get their medals inspired me a little...I don't know if it was a little bit of the green eyed monster or more that I just want that accomplishment. But boy howdy is 13 miles different than 3, LOL

Eeek...I feel like I haven't done many personals lately and I do apologize for that, ladies. I hope that you're all doing well. :)

:) Morning,

Struggles are peeking up for some of you but you are not letting them in! Temptations will follow you when you go out, go with friends or work.
Be prepared. Mini snack bags filled with PLANNED snacks can be a life saver.
Mind over food. Happiness over a quick fix.
You and I can and will do this.

Yesterday I cooked up a storm! Roasted all kinds of veggies and made my version of Nats Confetti Chickpeas (I don't/didn't like chickpeas) and they were awesome.

I am so grateful that I love to cook and try new recipes.

Instead of Lou's doughnut I bought him a steak! (a rare treat). I also made an apple/celery/cranraisin/ Greek yogurt salad instead of drinking the apple!

So today brush away your temptations and say I DON'T
want you here!
:mouse: Marcie

LADY WINDSONG - So glad to hear that you enjoyed the Confetti Chickpeas!!! I picked the recipe up from a cooking show I just happened to be watching one day. I love chickpeas, so it was a great recipe for me. And what an easy way to get in tons of veggies and a nice variety, too!!! I still have to work on getting my "jump bag" ready for SWAT callouts. At one point I had bought some of the stuff I needed for it and, as time went on and I didn't put it together, I used all the stuff I bought. So now I need to buy more (as well as the actual bag itself, LOL). But your suggestions are great!!! I sometimes will make some air-popped popcorn and put it in a plastic storage bag to carry w/ me for a snack later. It's definitely MUCH easier to face temptation and beat it if you've got an approved option right there w/ you. ;)

Good Morning:sunny:

I've been puttering around for awhile preparing for our departure to Idaho Spgs after we hit the pool tomorrow. I think I'll try for at least another hour of sleep.

Okie, thanks for getting us started this morning. I'm happy you'll be attending school again. Me, just my usual volunteering. The book sounds interesting-I haven't read it.

Natasha, I haven't done many personals, either, but it's checking in thats most important!I always read posts. I don't want to miss anything! My DH said he'd be interested in walking with me-look what you have started.

LadyWindsong, yay! for you finding a better choice for your DH, both with the steak and the salad. I've talked my DH away from ice cream:dp: but I understand it's up to me to find a replacement. Once we get to I Springs I'm going to try to make my own yogurt, which I can doctor for him. He can eat more than 1/2 qt per day if he's staying away from ICream. It should be fun. Thx for inspiring morning message. Sending my best to you today, too!

01-18-2011, 05:46 AM
Hi ladies, not even six am and responses already! Thanks for your support, means alot.

01-18-2011, 05:49 AM
Okie what are you studying?

01-18-2011, 06:45 AM
Three month course for childcare.

01-18-2011, 06:46 AM
I have an AA in Early Childhood Education. Great choice and so fun.

01-18-2011, 06:49 AM
Wow...everyone is up and chatty early this morning!!! I had a rough night. My DH has some kind of virus and was up all night. A grown man throwing up has got to be the worse sound in the world! I am just hoping and praying it is just a passing virus...he has struggled with stomach issues for many years. In 2009, it was awful but he found a specialist and they have found some medicine that seems to help. Anytime he has a virus now he thinks he is going back to that terrible time when he was constantly sick. We have a two hour delay today due to ice but teachers report at regular time, so I had better get going!

01-18-2011, 06:56 AM
:coffee: Good morning, and thanks so much getting us started today, Okie!

It's a slippery mess outside and the police are advising everyone to wait til later to venture out, so I'm getting some laundry done with my extra time this morning. Jake left for work at his usual time and hasn't called me, so I guess he got there OK.

Thanks for your daily hints and inspiration, Marcie. Since I spend a lot of time in my car, I keep a stash of individual bags of nuts, and a box of clementines and apples in my car. They've saved the day for me countless times. :)

01-18-2011, 07:07 AM
Be careful driving out there .

Good thoughts for a speedy recovery.

01-18-2011, 07:12 AM
Good morning ladies!

Okie, I have to limit my internet time during the school year, too. I just can't get things done if I spend as much time online as I'd like to. That's one of the reasons I still haven't joined facebook. I'm taking 2 classes this semester (for recertification). I don't usually like to do more than one at a time, but these both look great and should be helpful. One meets at the middle school in town and the other is online so I won't have to travel.

Natasha, yesterday I signed up for a 5k walk on March 13th. It's called Mary's Walk and raises money for the Maine Cancer Foundation. I'm walking, not running, so I'm not worried about training, that's shorter than my usual walks and snowshoe treks. But I am a little nervous about raising pledges. I need to get busy. :)

Hi Marcie, I like your new ticker. :)

Debbie, I hope you're snoozing peacefully right now. I always get confused by 'today' and 'tomorrow' in the predawn posts... I'm thinking you're staying put today and driving on Wednesday? But if I'm wrong, drive safely today. :o
And either way, enjoy your day.

Lisa, I'm sorry. I hope your DH feels better very soon, and good luck dragging your sleep self to school today. Cottage, I'm glad you're able to take your time before heading out. Drive safely, ladies!

There's a storm on it's way, I'm wondering if we'll stay in school all day or if they'll send the kids home at noon. They all have emergency plans but the kids get stressed out and it seems there's always one kindergartner or first grader who gets off the bus to an empty house and then doesn't know what to do. It feels way too cold to even think about storming, so I've got my fingers crossed.

Ok, off to the shower - and my weigh in. I'm hoping I didn't do too much damage this weekend. I stayed away from blatant junk food but it was hard to eat totally on plan.

Enjoy your Tuesday friends!

01-18-2011, 07:17 AM
and my weigh in. I'm hoping I didn't do too much damage this weekend. I stayed away from blatant junk food but it was hard to eat totally on plan

Fingers crossed.

01-18-2011, 07:23 AM
Hey all,
Wow, everyone is up early today! I forgot that it was supposed to snow so was surprised to hear the plows outside. It's not bad though, and is supposed to be 40 degrees and rainy today and tomorrow, so hopefully we'll was all that black (and dog pee) stained snow away!

AF is on her way but refuses to actually arrive and it's so frustrating. I had weird dreams last night and feel depressed and anxious. Stayed on plan yesterday and believe I absolutely will until Friday when I weigh in again/begin Phase 2. I have a planned cheat this weekend. I am so excited. My friend who is a chef is having a fondue party! Can I just tell you how much I LOVE fondue. I'm making a white bean in proscuitto cup appetizer and was thinking of bringing a veggie appetizer too. I do plan to eat bread that night.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day. I'll try to check in again later. Karen, how are you feeling? Take it easy!

01-18-2011, 07:28 AM
Morning, all! I've got a couple minutes while the wee one is sleeping and the big kids are still at school so I thought I'd check in. I'm plugging along over here trying to make good decisions with every bite I do or do not put in my mouth. I started P90X yesterday. Love that workout! This will be the fourth time I do it. I'm a bit sore but not debilitatingly so - whew!

Okie, I haven't read that book, but I've often wondered if the reason I tend to yo-yo once I get close to goal is that I'm scared of not having a "project" once I reach the point I'd set out to get to. I think I need to refocus myself to think of maintaining as a project in and of itself so I can break through that brick wall I put up against myself getting there!

Natasha, congrats on the 5K! There are a lot of good running websites out there that have training programs for different race lengths. It's not so intimidating to run 13 miles when you have months to work up to it!

Marcie, your "mind over food" quip made me laugh! What a fantastic motto!

Debbie, have fun getting ready for your trip and good luck catching the extra hour of sleep!

Lisa, I hope your husband bounces back quickly. I'm sorry to hear of his issues - hope this is just a bug!

Linda, be careful out there today! I just folded three loads of laundry and I'm waiting on the fourth to come out of the dryer. We make so many dirty clothes!

Heidi, I hope the weather cooperates for you! Good luck getting your pledges!

Well, I've still got a half hour until my oldest walks in the door and Luke is still snoozing away in his swing so I'm going to try to get in a nap, too. Have a wonderful day, chickies!

01-18-2011, 07:28 AM
Planning is key. Enjoy!

01-18-2011, 07:30 AM
Kara, sweet dreams.

01-18-2011, 07:39 AM
Wow, I need more cofffee to keep up with all of you :) Good morning :coffee2: !

Okie & Marcie - I'm an early childhood educator by profession. I've worked in centers (just about every job including director) and in community support agencies. Still connected to the field now. It's a great job, I just wish the pay and benefits were a little more realistic.

Marcie - Check the cranraisins for ingredients. Sadly some have corn syrup :(

Natasha - Don't know how I missed that recipe but I can't wait to try it!

Debbie - :crossed: hope the nap works out. Have fun at the pool

Lisa - Hope DH gets over the tummy thing fast. I keep hearing about stomach bugs going around so hopefully that's all it is.

Heidi - I'm with you on the scale this morning. The last thing I needed was another celebration weekend.

Mathilda - Have things settled down a bit at work? Hope the day is an easy one

Cottage - Be careful out there. It's heading this way and I'm anticipating another possible work at home day (I hope. I hate being out and stuck driving when it turns).

Kara - It's always nice to see you in the morning :)

Okay, I'm going to go look for more school closure info for the other side of the mountains (Where I'm supposed to be today). If I get to stay home I'll be back in a little bit.

01-18-2011, 07:53 AM
Wow! What a chatty bunch!

I won't add my clucking because I'm already running late but it's nice to see such perkiness.

Stay safe if you are going to get the East Coast weather crud. Think spring. :encore:

01-18-2011, 07:58 AM
Good Morning all :)

I got through day 1 of phase 1 yesterday with no cheating, so happy! I was craving sweets but sugar free jello saved my life after dinner. I'm picking more of that up today.

My spring semester at college starts today, a week late thanks to the snow! Today's classes are in the morning so I'm taking some almonds with me to snack on inbetween.

Foodobsessed, I started college fall last year studying for an associates degree in computer science.

Everyone be careful out there with the snow!

01-18-2011, 08:04 AM
Woo Hoo LAK

01-18-2011, 08:24 AM
Morning ladies, Water weight gain again today... TTOM.. 218.2 Yuk!!
Hope you all have a terrific and great day!! Going make my coffee...:)

01-18-2011, 09:13 AM
Let's try this again - I somehow deleted my first attempt...

Okie - I have been working on water too but do much better this time of year with decaf, hot tea.

Natasha - Love the avatar! Good for you wanting more.

Windsong - Wish I liked to cook. Sounds yummy.

Debbie - Hope you are snoozing away. Have a great trip. How long are you going for?

Lisa - Poor guy. Poor wife.

Linda - Loving clementines! Someone told me they only have a short season. Is that true?

Heidi - I always wondered how schools could dismiss early like that. I think it happened once here and I was glad I was home. Hope the weather holds off.

Matilda - Oooh - fondue - yum. Thanks for asking. I slept better... broke out the sleeping pills instead of the pain pills. Ouchy is a bit less and itchy is taking over. Slow progress.

Kara - I have P90X envy! You were the first person I ever heard mention it and I wondered about it last year. Now that I got mine I am chomping at the bit to recover from my surgery and kick butt!

Cyndi - I don't see you back so hopefully by now you are safely on your way.

Ruth - Love the rainbow.

LAK - Good job yesterday! The cravings do eventually subside.

Laneebm - That darn TOM.

Last day of a 4-day weekend here. Teen has more work to do at the school again but can sleep in. I'm slowly feeling a bit better and trying not to be impatient. But, darn, we apparently use our ab muscles in every thing we do! Ouch. Not sure when I am ready to venture to the store but looks like we may get snow so I should probably head out before then. I'll make DH drive and carry the bags:) There are some advantages to having a husband with no job.

And now I am going to supervise him mashing my crockpot beans. He does not take direction well and I am a perfectionist about things being done my way. I hope we both survive!

01-18-2011, 09:31 AM
Took awhile to figure it out but I am definitely WFH today. I suspect they think their employees should be "tougher" (or stupid as those of us who have been around call them) but that's not me.

Hope you are safe and warm wherever you are today

01-18-2011, 09:33 AM
Good morning!!

It's back to work after a busy three day weekend. I have some big meetings this week, but I think we are prepared.

For my fellow Coloradians-we went to the Wings Over The Rockies museum. It was really nice and I would recommend it.

To those of you on the east coast, please be careful.

Have a great on plan day!!!

01-18-2011, 10:27 AM
Good morning,

I am doing wfh so I can take DD2 to dentist later to have her two other front teeth taking out so her adult teeth can come down, poor thing is going to be missing 6 teeth then as one of bottom ones should be falling out today they will probably just yank it too.

For those with bad weather- stay safe- we just have rain today but they are saying Thursday maybe for more bad weather.

Have a great day everyone

01-18-2011, 11:20 AM
Good morning busy Chickies!

Back to work today, but off again on Friday. Kids were off yesterday, and are off again on Friday and Monday
So I took Friday off so that I only have to pay extra for Daycare next Monday.

After watching the scale do nothing last week I'm also going to try counting my calories this week to see if it helps. I like the idea of eating till I'm satiated, but I have a feeling that like those doing points, that my portions are greater than they should be. (And I eat too many nuts ;)

To all those looking at nasty snow storms - stay safe and warm! We got our 6 inches yesterday and are mostly dug out.

WaistingTime - Take care of yourself!!! Remember with DH, deep deep breathes :D

LAK1974 - YAY!!! It will get easier, but those cravings are nasty at first. Good for you!!

tomandkara - What is P90X??

litar - Good luck with the hubbie - mine used to be so stoic and I was the pathetic one when sick. As he ages he seems to be getting more needy when ill :dizzy:

Heidi58 - Yay for the 5K!!! I started scoping out local 5K's yesterday, but so far none close by. You'll LOVE it!

Natasha1534 - A Half-marathon is my eventual goal as well, though I'm hoping to work up to a 10K by the fall of 2011 as I'm kind of a chicken regarding the 13 miles

01-18-2011, 11:34 AM
HOLY COW :moo: It's only 9:30 here people. Chatty chat chat chat!

Well I was just popping in to say I was good yesterday and am going strong again today. Feeling really good. Big project to do at work so I can't hang out here long. I hope everyone is having a fabulous day!!!! Much love sisters!

Lisa :D

01-18-2011, 12:47 PM
 morning everyone. I'm off to walk before I get too busy. Will check back in later.

01-18-2011, 01:53 PM
P90X is an insanely tough workout that uses muscle confusion to get the best results. It works, but you have to be dedicated to use it every day for 90 days.

Things are good, but work's going a little crazy. :) I got to go to the roofs of two skyscrapers though last night, which was cool. Today- long drive to a site.

Woo. :)

01-18-2011, 02:12 PM
Sounds like you have an interesting job uscarchie.

I think I know the answer to this but can anyone clarify whether we can eat 85% dark chocolate on south beach? If so, in which phase? I really enjoy green & black's organic chocolate and was wondering if or when I can eat that.

Just got back from class, waiting for almond induced indigestion to go away  then I'll have lunch. I only ate 15 of them! Sometimes I can eat them and be just fine, other times like today they kill me. Also have lots of reading to do for my history and media classes.

01-18-2011, 02:19 PM
Dark Chocolate is fine as a limited treat on P2 and P3. Once a week, I think that is. :)

I say "For Emergency Use Only" on Dark Chocolate... because it makes me feel better and then it's something I can use to ward off the evil forces of doom. :) Like Garlic, but not as smelly.

I do have an interesting job! Yay architectural lighting design!

Hello from home. :)

School let out early because of the snow. As far as I can tell everyone got home safely. I don't like early release days - but I don't like going to school in July, either. Karen, we do lots of them here in New England. If the kids get a half day of school in we don't have to make the day up, so as long as the roads won't be too bad at noon we hold school. The dismissals are pretty well publicized, TV, radio, automated phone calls to parents and our WalMart and grocery store announce it so customers will know to head home and meet the buses. lol

Windsong, thanks for crossing your fingers for me - I didn't get to change my weight in my profile this morning.though. :o Actually, I should move it UP a pound. I'm confident that I didn't really gain that much fat in 3 days, so I'm thinking a day or two back on track and then I can honestly change it to 139.

On that note, I'm going to head upstairs to the wii fit and take advantage of my unexpected leisure time this afternoon.

01-18-2011, 02:30 PM
Yeesh you guys! So many posts!

I'm into phase 2 now, but like I've mentioned in the "On-Plan" thread, I am definitely not eating enough. This has never, ever been a problem for me (that's why I'm fat!), so I'm struggling with figuring out how to stay in control, but make sure I'm getting enough so I don't ruin my metabolism! 9lbs in 2wks + 3 days is much quicker than I'm comfortable with and is not sustainable. I've got a cheat meal planned for tonight, just to bump my calories for the week up. The key is to know its purpose and get right back on plan after that!

If any of you ladies use "my fitness pal" to track your calories, PM me your username and I'll add you as a friend!

A couple of personal responses before I have to get back to studying:

Okie: I am a professional student! Finishing up this May! The internet definitely saves my sanity but it's the ultimate time-waster too! I don't even remember what I did before facebook! :D

Natasha: I haven't congratulated you get on your 5K -- congrats!! Definitely an inspiration. I've made it to week 4 of couch to 5K running plan but my progress has been derailed by school and my laziness.

Mmckellan: My AF was stubborn this month too! I wonder if it was the shock of phase 1 to our systems? I figured that's what was happening, but my paranoia still forced me to spend like 40 bucks on PG tests before she came!

Lak: Dark chocolate starts being allowed occasionally in phase 2. Anyone know the specific quantity restrictions?

01-18-2011, 02:52 PM
Wow! Lots of posts today - I am still getting to know everyone so it is hard for me to do personals until I know who is who.

I introduced carbs in yesterday with a whole wheat pasta dish that I love, but made SB friendly. That was a bif mistake because I over indulged and had an uptick on the scale today. I am not letting it get to me though and I am trying something different today. I hope tomorrow will show a loss instead.

01-18-2011, 07:04 PM
Lol shelflife! Nice to see you back Kara, u've been missed! Luke is getting so big, the handsome guy. I need to have some girls for him to date! But gotta find a man first (sigh). The bank issue got resolved finally BUT I'm waiting on my check card. Unfortunately, I have to go up to the bank to get it activated, what a major drag!

01-18-2011, 09:17 PM
Hi everyone! Thank you to everyone who welcomed me in my newbie post! I thought I'd check in here to help hold me even more accountable. Today was Day 2 of Phase 1 for me, and I haven't cheated yet, so I suppose that's good! I'm sitting here drinking my water right now. It's very hard for me to drink my water during the day because I am a teacher, and I only get about two bathroom breaks a day, once in the morning, and once at lunch. When I drink lots of water, I find myself having to go in the middle of class, and there's nothing I can do about it! So I drink maybe 2-3 bottles at school and then try to drink lots at home. I'm sorry...was that too much info? LOL!

Anyway, I'm actually enjoying this so far...can't wait until next Monday because I am hoping to see a loss!!

01-19-2011, 12:25 AM
Evening ladies...trying to get some personals done.

Lexxiss - You make a good point...checking in is the important thing, everything else is just gravy. :) Ummm, wait, no gravy...something more SB appropriate, then. LOL Oooh, let me know how the homemade yogurt goes...that should be interesting. My mom misses her ice cream something fierce, so if I could find a recipe for frozen yogurt that is SB friendly it might help her a little bit.

litar - Hope your hubby is feeling better by now. Those stomach viruses suck, even if they ARE just passing viruses!!! I think it's normal for people to be paranoid about sicknesses coming back. It took me months to figure out that the lightheadedness I got after having 1 glass of wine was b/c I'm just not used to drinking anymore...not b/c I'm having another vertigo episode, LOL

Cottage - Glad you stayed home and caught up on chores instead of braving the elements.

Heidi - Congratulations on signing up for the 5K!!! :) That's a good cause, too!!! I need to start looking up ones that benefit cancer research and diabetes research since cancer took my grandfather and diabetes took my grandmother. I had to giggle at your "today and tomorrow" quandry. I know that my particular situation can be VERY confusing so I try to explain it when I think about it. For information purposes, if I post before 0700 hrs and say "today" I mean the time until I go to bed. Once I go to bed and wake back up, it's "tomorrow." So even if I go to bed at 0700 hrs and wake back up at 1000 hrs, it is "tomorrow" just 3 hours later to me, LOL Gee, no wonder it's confusing, huh??? LMFAO Hope the storm blew right over you and on to somewhere else!!! Good luck w/ your weigh in...hope the scale ewas kind to you. ;)

Mmckellen - Yum...fondue!!! I have wanted to go to The Melting Pot for years and never quite made it up there. Your appetizer sounds absolutely delicious!!!

tomandkara - Thanks. :) You're SO right...having months to prepare should lay aside any concerns. I think I might make the half-marathon a year-end goal for me. That way I have plenty of time to work on it AND it won't be sweltering hot outside when I finally do it. Hope you got the chance to get your nap in!!!

Cyndi - Lemme know how you like the chickpeas. I'm thinking that I might have to make them up as a side for some "oven-fried" porkchops w/ panko bread crumbs this week. YUM!!!

LAK1974 - Good job getting through Day 1!!! :) Oooh, the dulce de leche sugar free jello is frigging amazing. I love that stuff!!! WaistingTime is right...the cravings DO go away. Look forward to it, LOL

WaistingTime - Thanks. :) I giggled at you being a perfectionist b/c I am the same way. To the point that I don't even like someone else heating up my food in the microwave for me b/c "I know the correct temperature" that I want it to be. LOL Hope you both survived!!!

Pearlrose - Hope DD2 made it through her dental procedure okay. Poor thing!!!

AmyKitKat - Good luck reaching your goal. I bet you make it!!! :)

shelflife - Thank you. :) Good luck finished up your C25K program. I tried it for one day and decided I wasn't ready to start running yet. I'm thinking about 30 pounds or so and I'll give it a go again.

beckyh - Good for you not letting it get to you. It's a learning process and now you know...that's what's important. ;)

01-19-2011, 12:27 AM

However you have to work it around so you can drink all the water needed...right??? ;) Nothing worse than having to tinkle so bad that your teeth hurt only to know you can't get up and do anything about it.
