20-Somethings - P90X Thread...?

I know this isn't an exercise forum but I was wondering if any of the ladies in the 20's Threads are currently doing or will be or are thinking about it.
I tried it before but it didn't stick long. Now that I have some serious goals that have become much more important to me I have picked it back up again. I think I quit out the last time because I didn't have anyone to talk to about it and revel in the soreness!!!!
Would anyone be interested in starting a P90X Thread with me and updating each other often on the dvd's, the meal plans and the changes we will be making or seeing?

Bl-I saw yours and you actually inspired this post!!! I wasn't sure if you wanted to begin an official thread off of yours so I just made another one.
Brook-sounds great!!
I just bought a small tub of protein power and some more chicken. OOF! I just finished about 3 months of South Beach and chicken is the last thing I want anymore but I'm happy to be adding some other foods in now. I won't be able to do P90X today. I really planned my day out horribly with grocery shopping, cleaning and going out tonight. Hoping to be good. I don't really drink but my friend's mother in law is hosting the New Year's party and she makes the most amazing snacks! I'll be good though because I can't move left or right without a reminder of 'Back and Arms' from last night not to mention my sides send surges of soreness through my core!!

ive done p90x before too but never did the whole 90 days most i got to was 60 days. i like most of the workouts theyre fun and go by real quick when you really get into it.. ive recently just been working out at the gym just doing whatever i feel like but maybe ill pick up p90x again...i still do some dvds every now and then but not the program. i feel like it got too easy and when i would go to the gym i felt like i was working harder burning more calories on my own but well c its been a few weeks since ive done a dvd...good luck

Happy New Year!!!
Jhart--What were your results when you did it for 60 days? I would imagine that would still be a tremendous change in the body considering the workouts.
I didn't do a video yesterday, terrible planning. I actually didn't drink much last night which was great! I had a glass of wine and about a shot glass's amount of champagne at midnight. Got my midnight kiss, played pool for a little while and hung out with some old friends. What a great night!
I am trying to get back on track today. I have classes starting up again in a couple of days and I still have some friends in from out of town that want to soak up some time with me. Right now I am finishing up putting my P90X calendar and journal and somehow trying to figure out a way to do my fat tester. I really actually am excited to see if there is a difference.
Did anyone else start it and stop and if so, how far into it did you get and did you see results?

Ohhh Are you intending to do 30day shred? I was also looking at that but so far I am good to go on the P90X, not too much difficulty but the Plyometrics kills me.

I will do this with you guys. I was part of an older P90X thread that has since died out. I did it for 7-8 weeks straight, losing 15 pounds and going from a 16 to a 14. I wasn't sticking to my eating plan very well though.
I do a modified version of this program, since I personally don't feel as though the cardio dvds were difficult enough for me - I just wasn't getting my heart rate up high enough. So instead of the kenpo, plyo or cardio dvds, I run, do Zumba, swim, or do an Insanity dvd.
I will be joining you girls on Monday morning!!!

So I am doing the lean version and then after 90 days switching to the original version.
Just finished the first workout and holy cow was it HARD! I did a LOT more then I thought I could do. I am also using the teambeachbody website to keep track of my beginning stats and such along the way.
I took some "awful" before photos also! 1 Day down 89 more to go!!!

I actually have my last day tomorrow! Lol. I have really loved it. I only lost 10 pounds on it but the focus is not on weight loss its on getting stronger, more flexible and overall being fit and healthy. I definitely toned up a lot and I got so much stronger. Its hard to stick with since its a strict schedule but its worth it if you really follow the schedule and are eating healthy. I am definitely going to keep incorporating the videos into my workouts here and there. Oh and I completed (tomorrow.lol) the lean program :)

Day 1 done yesterday. I stuck to the meal plan (mostly), but didn't end up eating enough calories over the course of the day so I felt kind of woozy after the DVD. I hurt all over today. Some of it is the good post-workout hurt but I have a hunch some of it is a wintertime crud kind of ache, so I'm postponing today's Cardio and going to work on feeling better. I'll catch up on the "rest" day I hope. :)
I'm doing it (again) too :-) Missed 2 weeks with the holiday and getting sick so I'm going to restart once again tomorrow. Seems like I always hit the 3-4 week mark and something comes up, I miss a week or 2 and need to start over. This time I'm making it through the whole thing!

I'm excited that we have so many joiners! I plan on setting up for KenPo X here in a minute. Just made some chicken and veggie soup for dinner and I'm popping full so just waiting for it to settle down before I go air punch for an hour!
I'm hoping to still lose weight though. I may not seem the numbers move but I'd like to see the change in my body at least.

Alright ladies. I'm slacking a bit. I keep telling myself I'll get up off the sofa and put in a dvd but I'm so sore and last night I only did about 20 minutes of KenPo. My body is tirrreeddd!!
I've already taken one rest day so I know I shouldn't take another. Maybe I'll just go do some stretching and a quick warm up and take the dog for a walk. That sounds like a plan.
I hope the rest of you ladies are as excited as I am to continue with this or start for some of you I noticed as still waiting on getting it! I'm excited just to hear what your thoughts are!

I ended up having to take yesterday off but I finished the program today! I can't post pictures on here until I get a higher post count but I see a huge difference. I lost about 10 pounds on it and dropped 2-3 inches all over. I am so much stronger, flexible and have better balance. For those of you starting out stick with it! If you follow the whole 90 day program you are going to see results! And I didn't even follow the meal plan, just ate healthy on my own.

You know, I was really unsure about the physically fit part as well. But you know there is a fitness test which I'm sure you can find online and if P90X is too extreme then try P90 or one of the other programs out there that are less intense. I struggled when I first bought it and that was 35 pounds ago. I did half a workout at a time.
Check out some of the workouts on Youtube before you commit to anything and maybe consider consulting your gym's personal trainers--which they may actually insist you see them ($$$) but ask them their opinion anyway.
Anyway, Ive decided that tonight I am going to face Plyometrics and finish that beetch!!

Ok for those who haven't received their workouts yet or are curious about what they all entail, I found this cool description for you and it's pretty much P90X to a T.
P90X Exercise Routine #1 “Chest & Back”
You’ll be sweating and pumped in about 5 minutes into this one! You’ll train your body to keep going as you push hard to meet your rep goals. Get ready to do, military push ups, reverse pull ups, decline pushups, “dive bombers” and diamond push ups just to name a few! You’ll need to have your P90X Chin Up Bar, or a resistance bands and an Resistance Bands Upgrade Kit handy for the pull up moves.
P90X Exercise Routine #2 “Plyometrics”
Plyometrics is basically a combination of cardio and multidirectional jumping techniques designed to improve strength and stamina. This P90X exercise has a reputation for being one of the most challenging workouts in the program, and rightfully so! It improves your ability to run faster, jump higher, and maneuver quickly in sports like, tennis, basketball, track and field, swimming, mountain climbing, and of course traversing the day to day obstacles of every day life!
P90X Exercise Routine #3 “Shoulders & Arms”
Time to break out the resistance bands or weights, you’ll need them, as you’re going to be building those “glamour muscles” as Tony puts it! This P90X exercise is all about toning and building the arms; the biceps, triceps, forearms, and of course the shoulders! You’ll be doing “In & Out Bicep Curls”, Two-Arm Tricep Kickbacks”, Seated Two-Angle Shoulder Flys” and a whole lot more!
P90X Exercise Routine #4 “Yoga X”
If you think this is going to be a walk in the park, just ask any P90X grad what they think about Yoga X! This is a controlled body sculpting exercise that not only promotes good balance and form but also improves flexibility and coordination. The philosophy of hatha yoda, on which the program is based, is that the more you focus on the breath through each pose, the less you will notice the strain or discomfort. That’s one of the most important goals of this P90X exercise routine.
P90X Exercise Routine #5 “Legs & Back”
This routine went through immense revisions durning it’s development. Originally the pilot and test groups felt that the program was too heavy on the legs and too light on everything else. With careful testing and planning, Legs & Back was finally perfected. While the main focus of this exercise is on the quads, glutes, hamstrings, and calves, there’s also a handful of good old-fashioned pull-ups to give your legs a much deserved break while you work the upper body.
P90X Exercise Routine #6 “Kempo X”
P90X is all about diversity, after all, that’s what Muscle Confusion is based on, and Muscle Confusion is the key training science behind the entire system. Kenpo X brings in a fast paced cardiovascular self-defense workout to the table. Kenpo karate started with native Hawaiian Ed Parker Sr., who studied under martial arts master William Chow and Lau Bon. It’s a combination of martial art forms that originated in China, India, and Asia. It was the first American system of martial arts. Kenpo X is a high-intensity P90X exercise that incorporates explosive combinations to improve balance, flexibility, coordination, and stamina. By the way, it’s a ton of fun too!
P90X Exercise Routine #7 “X Stretch”
Flexibility training can often be overlooked. In the end it actually enables you to reach a higher level of athleticism. The reason that most people aren’t that flexible is due the simple fact that they don’t work at it! Why is X Stretch a crucial P90X exercise? Because being flexible will help prevent injury. It only stands to reason that the more you contract your muscles the more you need to stretch them back out.
P90X Exercise Routine #8 “Core Synergistics”
When it comes to maximizing your P90X results, the Core Synergistics routine is critical. This exercise works multiple muscle groups to build and support the core muscles, while at the same time conditioning your body from head to toe. The important role that the core muscles play in everyday activities is often overlooked. This is one P90X exercise that must be taken seriously.
P90X Exercise Routine #9 “Chest Shoulders & Triceps”
It’s all about the upper body. You’ll be doing “Chair Dips”, “Side-To-Side Push-Ups”, “Floor Flys” and just about every other imaginable upper body exercise under the sun. If there was ever a time to “Bring It” this is it!
P90X Exercise Routine #10 “Back & Biceps”
Got your ticket to the gun show? Well you’ll be the star! Want to build those jaw-dropping biceps known as “guns” in the weight training world? This P90X exercise will do just that! It also does wonders for women who just want to tighten and give definition to their back and upper arms. Get ready for a whole bunch of pulls and curls.
P90X Exercise Routine #11 “Cardio X”
Aerobic means “with oxygen.” Cardiovascular endurance relates to your body’s ability to efficiently transport oxygenated, nutrient-rich blood to working muscles. When training for strength gains, it’s important to keep cardio work under control or you could actually experience strength loss! You’ll sweat, get the blood pumping, and burn a ton of calories in the process!
P90X Exercise Routine #12 “Ab Ripper X”
In spite of what pop culture would have us believe, showing off your 6-pack is the least important reason for doing ab and core work. The muscles of your midsection are a crucial power source, it’s where you transmit force between your upper and lower body. The variety of movements in this P90X exercise, leaves no muscle untouched! It’s extreme work that’s better than any machine in any club.

I haven't been to the site in a loooong time, but I'm glad I stopped by today and found a p90x thread. I'm restarting it for what seems like the hundredth time, but now that I'm officially a college graduate and all my grad school applications are in, I have no excuse not to get through it. Plus working out my anxiety about whether or not I'll be accepted into grad school is better than eating away my anxiety.
I forgot just how ridiculously sore I get after restarting it (First day was yesterday, so my back, chest, abs, even hip flexors hurt). Does anyone else skip ab ripper? It's really brutal on my lower back, I find my core gets a good workout from just maintaining proper form in all the other exercises, and my waist isn't all that well defined to begin with, so I'm actually planning on saying a little 'soft' in the middle just to avoid looking like a box.
Tonight is plyo! It's strange that I actually look forward to that one.
*sigh* still waiting on restarting. This virus I had is horrible! Only 2-3 days of real symptoms but it's been draining me for 2 weeks now! Going up the stairs just about does me in. I'm about ready to just see what of p90x I do anyway but afraid of lengthening my recovery time.

I started P90X yesterday, but I'm not doing the scedule workouts they have, I'm doing whatever ones I feel like. Like yesterday was Cardio and today I'll be doing the Core one. I've also given in and decided to join and gym since I will now have a workout buddy which I think will help me out alot. So I'll be doing P90X 2, sometimes up to 4 times a week depending on the weeks because she had a 4 on 4 off scedule. The days she works I'll be doing the video's and the days she doesn't it'll be the gym.

Spiked--Yes! I do sometimes skip the Ab Ripper X but mostly because when I work out I'm on my tile and laying down on that is brutal on my back and butt. I always say I'll go upstairs in my spare bedroom whenit comes to that and do it on thecarpet but by the time Tony Horton says Way to GO! I'm done!!
I have to to Plyo tonight too. Its the one I put off. I stupidly didn't follow the schedule for weeks 1-3 so when Wednesday comes around againI I will follow them in order. So far I have taken 2 break days which I'm really regretting. Just haven't been feeling well because of it either. My friends want to go out to dinner tonight and I haven't seen them ina while so it might actually break my heart to have to turn them down for a work out but I dedicated myself to 90 days and I'm going to do it.

When I first did yoga, I really didn't like it. The moving portion seemed tedious, but as I went on I realized I loved yoga! I just didn't like it at first because it was hard, but since it's not a pulse racing workout I didn't notice it was hard because it wasn't making me feel exhausted I just realized I couldn't hold the poses right until I got a little more stronger and more flexible. I improved so much in yoga it was crazy and I plan to keep it up now that I am finished :)

Ashley-Yea Yoga wasn't my favorite but I was also doing it on tile and I haven't bought a yoga mat yet. Maybe this next go round will be better.
I just finished Plyometrics...well about 40 minutes of it. It killled me. I made a protein shake and a little bit of whole wheat pasta, chicken and peas. Probably too much but I don't think i am taking in enough calories. I was dead tired today at work and REALLY didn't want to do anything. Legs and Back is suppose to be tomorrow but I have a feeling that my legs will be of no use to me the next couple of days after this @ss wooping tonight.
MiZ-30 minutes is great! Thats 30 minutes you didn't do yesterday or last week or whenever it was you decided to do something greater for yourself. Remember that.
June-- haha! Nahhh let him feel the burn! It's when you stop hearing gasps for air is when you should probably check on him.

Good luck on yoga! That's always been my least favorite. The fact that I'm ridiculously not flexible makes it even worse because not only is it boring, it's extra hard and I look extra goofy. I just have to tell myself that it's good for me and I definitely need the flexibility. And whoever decided it should come after shoulders & arms day is evil.
Shelly, I do my workouts on tile too, and it's rough! I don't think I'd recommend doing legs and back after plyo. That's two really rough days on your legs back to back. I just finished plyo, and I'm really happy I only have a 6 hour shift at work tomorrow because I don't think I can handle being on my feet for my usual 9-10 hour shifts.
But as sore and tired as I am after just 2 days, I feel amazing. I just have to remember this when it gets boring and hard and I want to quit again.

Well ladies I just finished my 90 some odd minute yoga x and I L-O-V-E-D it!! I could actually do all the poses and I've never done yoga before:)
I think my favorite is going to be the Kenpo but we shall see in 2 days!
I've decided that P90X is my favorite least boring workout routine I've ever done. Definitely going to stick to the exact routine for the next 85 days and then gonna switch it up and probably do the regular version instead of the lean.

ANEWME- Take it a little at a time. The point of it is to give it your all, do it correctly and only go to your MAX. Do not exceed that breaking point otherwise you won't want to come back and do more. I would definitely suggest trying to finish each video. Don't allow yourself to sit down and if something is a little intense, walk around for a bit and then jump back in before you have a chance to talk yourself out of it.
Blcarter- Yoga wasn't my favorite and in fact I had troubles doing it but then again I don't have a yoga mat and my socks were slipping allll over the place. I'm going to go buy a yoga mat this weekend and give it another go. Being that I am so heavy it is really a challenge to hold my own body weight at times especially in some of those positions--but all the better for my overall goal right?! When I was thinner I had the most amazing flexibility--thanks to my water ballet and gymnastic mother! I think I have somewhat good flexibility for someone my size but hopefully soon I will be able to really get the good stretches going.
Tracyo-I have dificulty with my bands not being able to give me enough resistance. I would love to have dumbbells but I move so often that they are a serious pain in the patoot to lug around not to mention good ones are expensive. I'm going to go to the sports store this weekend and find some weight coded bands. They are much lighter and easier to store. You will be fine, do it to it girl!
Brooks-Way to go! I should probably start making up my time gaps and do two in a day but my schedule is getting more and more condensed as I have more to do now that school is back!

Shelly- I definitely say get a mat...even look on ebay for a nice one at a cheaper price. And I totally LOVE being barefoot:):)
Annah- I just finished day 5 of P90X and I can tell you I am sooo in love!! I think what makes it easier for me is that I have been doing Ultimate Tae Bo(which is an hour long) until I worked my way up to doing it 6 or 7 days a week. If I wouldn't have done that I dont think I would be sticking to this workout regime. But with a 4 yr old and a 7 mo. old and working full time my life is crazy!! I always make time for my workout no matter what :)
So I just finished LEgs and Back and my second round of Ab Ripper X...and I am totally in love with P90X. I love that I can get such a diverse and wonderful workout from home. Can't wait to take my 30, 60, 90, and 180 day pictures!!
Keep it up GIRLS!

Blcarter-WOW, I really needed to see that. Thank you for posting it. I have been really depressed this last week for actually gaining a pound since starting P90X. I didn't know if it was my uptake in protein or what but it really just made me crawl into a dark corner inside. I didn't do a workout last night as I had to write an essay since I have worked out all week and put off my homework. I have class tonight so I should have gotten up earlier today to do a workout.
I have a bridesmaid dress that I have already bought at my current size but I wanted to be able to take it in a good size or two before the wedding so I plan to lose about 20-30 more pounds and right now, its just not going through. I'm hoping to get it together! I'm falling apart!

Shelly don't give up!!! We all have our schedules to work around I am lucky right now I am at home on mat leave.. I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 4 month old... I workout at night... Some nights I would love to just sit and watch TV but I workout watching TV(Tony to be exact)... You can do it and we are here for support if you need it...
Blcarter WOW!!! You had done an amazing job... You will there again shortly if you keep it up... Those pictures of your friends is a good inspiration...
I was 145lbs when I got married got pregnant gainned 35 lbs lost it all then got pregnant again... gainned 15 lbs then lost the baby then got pregant again and gainned 40lbs.. Hoping P90X will be the solution to my weight loss... Keeping positive and keeping on pressing play everynight...

I just have to chime in and say I LOVE P90X!

I sadly haven't been keeping up with my P90X. I haven't done a video in about 3 days. I plan to today though. I did have a good workout yesterday though. I helped out Habitat for Humanity and volunteered some time to building a house, or I guess finishing it up. Seven hours straight! Lost about 3 pounds too. I didn't eat much which I kind of regret. They fed us but I only ate about a third of the food and the rest of the day was meager.
I did buy a yoga mat though! I'm verrrrry excited!! It's purple with flowers!

OK well got through half of yoga and it is so not fun for me... I think I will wait until I am a bit stronger than give it a go again.. istead of yoga I think I will do cardio or the stretch dvd.. Haven't done either yet so will see...
I totally agree with you Blcarter84, this workout program is fun and I think it will be easy to stick to... can't wait to see the results...
I would just keep modifying yoga rather than substituting. You might not be able to complete it all now but if you cut it out than it probably won't be any easier the next time. I would follow the plan even if you cant do everything now because you will improve every time. But if you cut it out you are missing a really great workout and probably won't get the same results so hang in there! I swear it gets easier! Lol

I have a quick question for all you ladies doing it. I've been looking into it for a while but wonder if it is something i could do in my apartment? I live on the third floor and it is carpeted. Ive done 30 day shred and a few other videos with out any complaints but not exactly sure how much high intensity jumping is involved. Any opinions would be GREATLY appreciated. I would love to participate!

Well, I just wanted to say hi... I'm not doing P90X but doing Power 90...since my body just wasn't where it used to be when I worked out a lot. Today will be my day 6 and I'm so happy that I have been able to stick to it... because after I fell out of the wagon, I had hard time sticking with any workout..
Oh and BLcarter.. so nice to see you on here again! :)

Beachlover- I live in an apartment too and I'm sure my neighbors downstairs can hear me workout but to be honest I dont care:):) I can hear them ALL the time. Plus its not constant and its only about an hour. For when I am jumping around though I take my shoes off and its easier to do soft landings that way.
Tara- HI HI HI!!! IS Power 90 hard?? Glad to see you again.
Bout to do Day 9 and I'm sure my muscles will be Jello when I am done

Ugh, this week has been brutal. But not from p90x. I've had zero energy all week. Not sure what the problem is, but I've barely been able to drag myself out of bed, get to work and then get back home. So sadly, it looks like I'll be starting over tomorrow. Since I only got to day 3 it's not a big deal, it's just a bummer that I'll now be finishing a week late.

Beckey Power 90 is for those who are not ready for P90X yet. :) It's not that hard but I know I can't do P90X yet.... and it does get me to sweat. I think once I get little more used to it, I may have to replace cardio days with other workouts maybe like 30DS or something. We will see... today is my last day of first week. :D
Blcarter84
01-09-2011, 09:19 PM
Tara- I just finished Cardio X (Day9) and boy am I dripping with sweat and my muscles are tired...haha. But I am excited to get into the best shape of my life and I am doing no substitutions. Once I finish the lean program I am going to do the classic version and really build some sweet muscles.
SpikedPUnch- Oh girl you can do it!! If you finish a week late no one will be disappointed:):)

Beckey - You gotta so help me once I'm done with my Power 90 this round. I may just go straight to P90x instead of doing Power 90 once again even if it's hard. I have to get ready for that vacation... I am hoping 9 months will be enough time for me to be in shape... or at least lose 60 lb and almost meet my goal... or at least 40 lb. LOL
I know you did it last time and you will be able to do it this time around too! :D

P90X is hard but it is by far my favorite workout I have ever done!
I we can totally help each other out:) I'm getting married June 25th so I'm trying to do about 2 rounds of P90X before then! And then it will be time to try for baby #3...and I'm hoping to stay kind of in shape this time around haha.

Tracy- it totally does fly by...like i really can't believe that its an hour. Even some of the 20-30 minute excercises I've done in the past I couldn't wait for them to be over...I never feel that way with P90X..even though it kicks my booty hardcore!
Tara- BOO for you not being in Michigan...my wedding is going to be a semi-casual party blasty blast:)
So I did round 2 (day 10) of Shoulders and Arms and Ab Ripper X today and boy do my arms feel like jello. I can say though that I have already built a lot of muscle and lost inches in jus tthe 10 days. Can't wait til progress pictures on the 30 day mark:)
I am going wedding dress shopping on February 19th so I'm REALLY hoping to look much leaner before then! (that would be 50 days in so over halfway!)
Keep it up GIRLS!

Good luck peaches! It's definitely the hardest workout I've done, but it's by far my favorite.
Restart of day 1 over. I think I tweaked something in my shoulder blade earlier today and it's feeling a little worse now. I didn't realize it until after the workout was done. Doesn't feel like a pull or tear or anything bad just... tweaky. Hopefully it'll be gone before shoulders & arms day.
I realized I need new 'before' pictures so I'll have to take those tonight. Not looking forward to them. :P

Ok I had my first day of the lean program on Monday. I did pretty good on both today and yesterday (besides having to stop usually towards the end of most push-up exercises), but I woke up feeling like crap this morning with a sore throat and cough. It's really weird because I NEVER get sick, it's almost like me starting so hardcore out of nowhere really pissed off my body. So I will be resting tonight and hopefully pick up again tomorrow.

Blcarter that's awesome! I definitely don't do anything extra on yoga days. I really want to do doubles, but I'm not sure if I'll have the time/energy for that. It doesn't start until phase 2 anyway, so I'll see how I feel then.
Shelly, just jump right back into it. I fell off almost immediately (day 3. yikes) and I beat myself up over it. Don't do that. That was dumb of me. But I know what you mean about boys on the brain: I originally started P90X because of a boy. He's no longer in the picture, but hopefully this time I can get through it for me. Plus there's sort of another new boy I have my eye on. ;)
Got through shoulders & arms tonight. I can tell I'm going to be achy tomorrow. But after week 1 the pain subsides a lot for me (well, until things get switched up in phase 2) so I've just gotta work through this week and keep going! Hang in there ladies!

I see P90X on tv and always think wow I would love to do that... but it gives me the impression you need to be super fit before you begin. I'd love it if any of you ladies who have done P90X could share your stores how was it starting out, did you see results and if you dont mind what was your weight when you started :?:

Still haven't done any more workouts yet after the chest cold (I'm waiting until the cough is gone... being sick sucks) but I have a great boyfriend who's been cooking healthy meals and keeping me on track in that area. Hoping to be able to start (over) again by Monday.
spikedpunch
01-13-2011, 11:44 PM
aasshhlleeyy: I was definitely not super fit when I started. I've never even attempted the fit test that you're supposed to do before you begin. But honestly, you don't need to be. You need to be willing to work HARD to see the awesome results, but you can tailor them for your fitness level. The strength exercises are obviously customizable by the number of reps and size of weights you use. But the cardio DVDs can be tailored too. For instance, I still can't get through plyo all the way without extra breaks. So I pause when I need to, or extend the built in water breaks a little longer so I can get my heart rate down or get my legs to stop burning.
The biggest thing (at least for me) is to not get discouraged that you can't keep up right away. If you could, p90x would be a big 'ol waste of money. It's a process. I've only gotten through the first month before stopping and restarting. I didn't take my measurements/weight at the end, but I can tell that I was definitely stronger, and my muscles definitely popped more. I was pretty much the same weight I am now when I originally started.
Brooksrm & tracyo, hope you two both feel better soon!
At work today we had to rearrange our 'cage' which is where we keep all the old paperwork/rxs (I'm a pharm tech) etc. The boxes don't look intimidating, but they're pretty heavy, and we had to pull them all out, restack them, then put them back in. Of course shoulders & arms was yesterday so my arms were already tired and sore. Then I had to throw boxes around and lift them over my head. I reeeeeally didn't want to do yoga tonight, but I pushed through the first 45 minutes. But then my wrists started to kill me and I couldn't do the vinyasas anymore. I'm not sure if it was because of the lifting at work or what, but I definitely don't remember them hurting like this any other times I've done yoga.

aasshhlleeyy: I am not fit either... I had my second child 4 months ago and had not doen any excercise for over 3 years... I was 201 when I started Jan 2nd and after almost two weeks I am 192.5.. I have never seen results this fast.. Like spiked said you tailor it to your ability but you push yourself to do a little more everytime... After a while it gets better....Although you will be sore for at least a week
Brooksrm: Hope your cold is gone soon so you can get back to the routine...
Spiked: must have been a long day but hey bonus calorie burning is always a good thing...
I am feeling better my neck feels more relaxed and tonight I will be doing legs and back and tomorrow kempo and I will be back on track...

Hey girls,
I just wanted to say to keep at it. I did P90X for 6 months, and I lost 30lbs. So it really works. Right now I'm only doing the videos 3-4times a week, which is really my fault. And I alternate between the ones I think I need to work on, namely Legs and Back, Core X, Cardio, and Pylo.
I want to move it back up to 5-6 times per week, but life has been hectic for me. So I just hope that everyone keeps at it.

Although I am doing much more than I was in week one... I can feel myself getting stronger... Today is chest and back and abs... All those push-up and pull-ups are a real workout...

with that being said I absolutely am in love with P90X... was hoping for faster weight loss but that's ok...it wil come eventually. I am definitely losing fat though, my back rolls are disappearing(almost completely gone), and I feel sooo much stronger.

Ok well I did plyometrics last night.. I didn't even stop the dvd for extra long breaks like I had to the first two weeks... Woohoo.. I have a love hate relationship with that workout... I hate strating it but once I am done... I love it....
Don't get discouraged Blcarter.. Liek you said you are getting stronger and I bet your inches lost will be pretty compared to weight loss which I would take any day... I totally agree I love this workout program so much....
Are you all following the meal plan as well??? I am eating about 1500 calories a day a trying to not eat more than one or two carbs a day.. So I am following what the meal plan says but substituted my own food.. Like fruits and veggies and lots of lean meat... Trying to eat less carbs and I switched to whole grains for everything like bread pasta and rice... One day a week I eat a sandwich and some baked lays maybe a soda but not every week (that's my cheat meal)
OK well shoulders and arms tonight and oh yes the ab ripper x I can do much more of this workout than I did the first week so I am totally happy about that...
My ultimate goal is to do one real pull-up.. will let you know once I reach that goal!!!!
Have a good day ladies!!!

Tracy- I have been following the South Beach Diet type program which coincidently(because its for life) is pretty much exactly the same thing as the Nutrition plan in the P90X program. But I've been doing that for so long that its like second nature. Although lately I've been having more cheat snacks then normal so I need to cut that out!

I have gotten seriously off track. There was a Packer game on Saturday, and I ate a bunch of junk and drank too much beer while watching it. Then they won, so we had to go out and celebrate afterward. Then on Sunday I made cupcakes for people at work, and of course ate some, and then ate them Monday when I brought them into work.
And now I've been sidelined. I've got chest pressure and difficulty breathing, but no regular cold symptoms. I'm hoping it's just a wimpy virus, but as of right now exercising of any type is out of the question. I'm bummed. Hopefully I can kick it soon and get back to the X.

So I'm a little bummed because in 3 days would have been the 30 day mark and pictures and measurements..but now I am almost a week behind because I got pretty sick. I plan on working out today for the first time as I am feeling I could probably make it through a workout. I've got like 7 workouts to make up!! Holy crap! but tomorrow would be my normal "break day" So I'm going to try ad double up a little before phase 2 Since it was a lot of stretch, yoga etc.
I CANNOT fall off this wagon because I got sick! I am also back on track with my eating and SBD friendly meals, lets hope I can get past this plateau!

I'm back on the P90X wagon myself now. Did Plyo X last night and it kicked my butt! LOL. Seems like every time I try to do P90X I get sick, so hopefully this time that won't happen. I've been derailed twice now. Got my fingers crossed that this time I can keep it going.

Glad to hear you are felling better Blcarter!!!
I also have missed workouts this week.. Bad migraine that turned into a cold.. Will start phase 2 Sunday... Will take measurements and weight at that time...
In phase 2 I am going to start doubles... You add cardio in the am and follow the classic schedual...
I have great news I was reading the beachbody message board and they said to not expect dramatic results until phase 3... So can't wait....
EagleRiverDee: Hope you don't get sick.. Good luck with the workouts!!

Ok ladies so I just weighed myself waiting for the bad news and voila! I've lost 4.4 lbs in the past 12 days:) YAY me!
Tracy- I've also heard that the first phase you dont see as much results as the last two..but it makes total sense.
So I want to lose 30-40 lbs before I get married so I can fit into my wedding dress. I will do it...have done it before and I have plenty of time(5 months)!
Lets do this!

I totally agree that it is definitely the best workout program:)
Also I have been trying to catch up on the ones that I missed and today would be the start of phase 2. I dont know if I should just do phase 2 like normal or try to put in some of the recovery week also...yoga and stretch X. I guess if I end up having time for 2 workouts I can throw those in there...what do you think?? I'm still going to take pictures tomorrow and measure and weigh myself as my 30 days. I get to work ALL day and night today yay for me!

I just purchased my set and will be joining you ladies as soon as they arrive! I'm so excited! I hope I can do some of the workouts! I will start doubles today still have a bit of a cold but will push through it anyways...

so yesterday after ordering my set I realized I will get it this thursday or friday which means I have exactly 90 days (or 91) untill my goal day, which is my son's first birthday! i'm very excited and have already started the high protien diet.
Question- did everyone take before pictures?
Blcarter84
01-30-2011, 06:26 PM
Tracy- So I think I'm going to do Yoga today and then tomorrow morning take pictures and start phase 2 tomorrow.
Activemommy- Yes I definitely took before measurements and pictures. If you dont you might not realize what progress you are making. You can't just base it on the scale since so much muscle is involved and it may take a bit to start losing. I didn't lose any in the first 3 weeks and then in the last 12 days I've lost like 4 lbs!
I am also doing the lean program and then after 90 days going to do the classic with maybe doubles in second phase.

Argh! I started P90X for the fourth time last week...and for the fourth time I got sick again!
WHY am I getting sick every time I try to do P90X? I go to the gym and don't get sick. I do some weekend exercise and don't get sick. But I do P90X and get sick within a week every time! This time I've got either a bad cold or the flu.
I am getting so discouraged. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi ladies! I'm starting my P90x today. I've had it for a while and kept saying I was going to start it, but I just kept waiting - no more waiting!
Today is my day one. I'm not sure how closely I'm going to follow the program (ie: skip a day and do a different workout - I don't want my gym membership to go to waste), but I'm pumped to finally commit to this! I'm also hoping to break past my plateau point (which is the 170s in general) and move forward towards goal!

I do get plenty of sleep. I don't know- maybe it's just one big coincidence but it's very frustrating. I do other forms of exercise and don't get sick- it's just when I try to do P90X I get sick. :(

Eagle- the only suggestion i have would be to drink a ridiculous amount of water. I mean when I feel I am getting a cold I drown myself in water and it hardly ever gets that bad where I have to stray far from my normal routine. Plus this winter it seems to be going around like crazy in my area...who knows.
Mary- I would also say that instead of straying from the P90X routine...use the gym to get some extra cardio in or just to relax and have some time to yourself on days when its more weights focused. I'm sure you will break your plateau:)
As for me I am officially done with day 32 and have 58 more days to go!! YAY :):)
Glad we have more people joining up:)

I was planning on doing it during my son's nap however he is off schedule and I was anxious to start so I did it after his luch. I think I'm almost more proud of him since he was able to self entertain during the whole dvd! he's 9 monthsold and very clingy so that was a big acheivement!
I hope I'm not too sore tomorrow, the workout was pretty intense but I'm feeling great now (which might be from the instant expresso I added to my protien shake haha)

Does everyone on here do the nutrition part as well? I would but I'm a vegetarian and it's not very conducive to that. :( But that's okay. I'm going to do cal counting on daily plate and try to stay below 1400-ish for the day.

Does anyone else feel like tony just likes to see fat pple roll around during the superman/banana?
Glitterhairdye- Welcome! just an idea you could just use a string and rap in around and mark it with differen colors. like a green mark for arms. a blue mark for waist and so on. then at 30-60-90 days see how much smaller you got from those makrs.

I'm definitely feeling it! I was a little sad that my scale hasn't budged yet though... hoping to see a drop tomorrow.
Today is yoga day! I've never been huge on yoga since I never feel like I get a calorie burn from it, but I do like it for stretching and I definitely neeeeed some stretching! I've been doing extra stretching after each workout.
Loving the program so far!
Glitterhairdye - I don't plan on following the nutrition, I'm a calorie counter and that's always worked for me. I don't want to diet, I made a lifestyle change in my eating habits.

hey all,
I do have the workout routines for the lean progrm since that is what I decided to follow. but I'm wondering if I can skip right to doing the cardio with it 3 times a week or if I should wait till day 30 to start those. When did you start to see a drop on the scale? My muscles are still sore, despite me glugging water, so I assume that's why my body is clinging to 174.8-175 this week. It's still only week 1 for me. So how long did it take before you saw the scale start to move?

I have another question before I begin. This one is probably asked a lot... My main goal is to lose weight. What have y'all done and think works better?

glittehair- I wish I could help you with your question but I just started too. but I can tell you I chose to do the lean program because it's suppose to be more carido. I still definately feel it in all my muscles though!
Day three today. just finished shoulders and chest + ab ripper. I definately feel like I ripped my abs. I don't think they have been this sore in a long time and it's nly a few hours after m work out!

Hey y'all!
Just did my first day. I decided to do the classic because weight loss is all about muscles and burning fat but I decided to incorporate it with running 3+ times a week.
Chest and back was hard!! My arms are kind of jello-like. I did the first set of push-ups on my feet then quickly dropped to my knees after that. It's hard not to use your legs to push up though. No pull-up bar as this isn't my house so I just used weights and did shoulder presses. I did 277 push-ups and 122 "pulls ups".
Ab ripper x was okay though I've done better ab workouts. I ended up using a lot of momentum to keep me going. I dunno I didn't love the exercises but I'll stick with it and try and use my core more. I did 292 reps for that. Tomorrow is running and plyo!
I decided to do a vlog to keep track of all of it and see my weight loss and here how I feel every day. If you want to watch it's right here: Vlog Day 1! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpaIsMOomk0) I look really dorky and chunky monkey but that's okay. In 90 days it'll be so much better.
Is everyone else still sticking with it? Good luck!

Mary- I didn't see any weight loss for the first almost 3 weeks....but I was workin out hard and eating well...then all of a sudden I dropped 3.4 lbs in a short time. But I did lose 4.5 inches in the first 30 days:)
Tracy- This week has been awful for me....but I promised myself I would finish the 90 days strong and do it all over again so I really need to kick it into gear.

I've been sticking with my program. today is day five. yesterday was really hard. I was tired and yoga is SO DIFFICULT! i think it's the hardest workout. i only made it through an hour of the 90 minute dvd. but I'm proud I made it atleast that far. I noticed that in day one there was a little yoga in the warm up and I couldn't do the chaturanga and yesterday I did a ton! so I can tell I'm already getting stronger! YAY!!!
My parents are taking my son to big family super bowl party today and I've decided to not go and do homework and p90x. maybe do cardio too. I'm excited to have some me time!

Activemommywanted - That abripper KILLS!!!! I hope between that and the cardio my tummy will shape up nicely! I wasn't a huge fan of the yoga one, and like I said earlier I only did about 40 minutes of it before switching to a cardio workout. My goal is to finish it though, as I get stronger!
Glitterhairdye - I don't do the pull ups either, I modify it with a chest press too. Certainly works the muscles still! Great job on all of your reps!
BLCarter - Thanks, that's good to hear! I know everyone's different, I was just curious about when it started to show :D I can't wait for inches lost! Size 8 jeans, here I come!
I took my rest day yesterday since I was at my boyfriend's house and it's really small and there's no room to workout, so Kenpo is today! And I finally got a little drop on the scale :)
ETA: KENPO IS AWESOME!!! Loved it :D I love kickboxing, so the kickboxing/karate mix was awesome!

glitterhair- way to work it with plyos! Everyone I talk to says that one is hard but one of their favorites. you must be doing the classic cause I'm doing the lean and haven't had to do it yet. I'm tempted to try it on my day of cardio x.
Yesterday was a great day! I got 5 hours of being alone. it was AMAZING! I did legs and back and abs. I definately don't recommend having your pull up bar/ bands hanging on a different level! haha I would run down the stairs for my pulls up and then run back up them to continue the workout without having to pause it! my legs were already jello from the lunges, squats and wall sits that the stairs made them mush!
Kempo today! I'm very excited since I'm a big fan of tae bo!

Glitterhairdye - It's tough, but I love it! lol I'm aiming for a lean look too, which I know is why it's good to do the yoga because that really helps stretch out your muscles.
I did 40 minutes of the yoga today and I think I did better! It was easier to get into the poses after doing a 1 hour tough spin class, I think my muscles were warmed up better. Next week I'm going to add on 10 minutes, and do that each week until I can do the whole yoga dvd! And I'm going to keep going to my Thursday spin class (which is my favorite class), I'm glad I don't have to give up spinning while doing the program!
It's my TOM this week, and even though the scale is being a b*tch, I still feel great after completing almost 2 weeks of the program! My muscles feel tighter, and I'm just feeling really awesome :)

It wasn't that I was hungry it was just that I was craving crunchy and it was there. Ugh. I hate hate hate doing that and I wish I had the will power to not. or not even to desire the act of putting osmething in my mouth and chewing. Luckily it was only a couple hundred calories but still that put me around 1800. Basically it was just a crap day food wise. :( And now my stomach hurts.
But p90x went well. Chest/back and ab ripper x. I did tons more push ups than last week. Like 50 more. And I felt like I was going lower but hips sagging is still an issue. I also checked my vlog from the first day to today and I can tell a difference in my arms and back though nowhere else. The little weekly check up said that I lost .5 in off my waisted and 1 off my hips though that doesn't seem realistic. That's okay I'll take it.
Tomorrow is plyo and i have to go take the hamster to get put down. :(

Logan- I'm sorry to hear about your pet. :( I didn't know they pt down hamsters. what was wrong with him/her. I'm a huge pet lover. right now we are thinking about breeding my parents pointing lab this spring. I hope they do it!
also way to start week two and awesome news on the inch and .5 inch! I'm too scared to take an update on my measurements and still no drop on the scale.
Does anyone else love looking at their x's on their calendars?

Luckily he's not really my pet. He's the family's that I work for so i have no real attachment to him. But it still is sad. He was really sick with something and with hamsters it's just easier to put them down then do all the intensive work to find out what's wrong with them.
And about the measurements. Just do it!As long as you haven't been eating out of control I'm sure they've gone down. And it could be a pleasant surprise. :)
Plyo was today! Felt a little better than last week but man did I sweat. This workout also goes by sooooo fast. And If eel like I'm not too tired afterwards so that makes me worry! but at least I'm moving

Glitterhairdye - A half an inch is nothing to scoff at ;) inches are way harder to lose than pounds, though that may seem different sometimes. Great job on plyos! That's my favorite one, even though it's soooo evil I know I work so hard in that workout. It's tomorrow for me!
Wooo, I can't believe I'm starting week 3 already! I did my Kenpo last night and it helped with some of the water weight from TOM/eating out for my boyfriend's sister's bday dinner. Not totally back to where I was before TOM yet though, so I'm hoping that Chest + back/ab ripper will help me bust out some more water weight on the scale tomorrow. I can't believe I'm already almost done phase 1, it's going fast! I'm debating doing a measurements check at the end of phase 1 or waiting until March 17 (halfway point from starting on Feb 1 and ending on May 1).

Logan: Good job.. it's true that inches are harder than pounds to lose... way to go...
activemommy: I so love to put the X on the calendar!!! SO rewarding....
Mary: You should really take measurements after 30 days it's so nice to see the difference in numbers...
I ate really badly this weekend.... Big turkey supper with all the fixings and coconut cream pie Friday, Saturday had waffles for lunch and spaghetti and cake (uncle's bday) and yesterday my husband took me out for valentine's day at my fav restaurant.. Ate Like a pig all weekend... Going to be really good this week to get back on track...

I did plyos this morning then my brother asked me to do chest back and abs with him. I thought why not since his gf was going to watch my poopy boy while we worked out.SOOOO SORE! taking IB profin and going to bed...yes it's only 9 something.

Tracy - I feel you about the being off plan. I've been awful, but tomorrow is a new day!
Activemommy - I hope you're son is better. That's awful! And I calorie count. Between 1200-1400 (ideally). I've been a little high lately. :(
Mary - What week are you on? PLyo gets me schweaty!! and my calves are kind of sore today though nothing like last week! Crazy how are bodies can adapt.
todayw as shoulders and arms. I pumped out the reps and ab ripper x I can tell that I've improved. Less momentum keeping me going. Doing the vlogs keeps me accoutable and posting on here of course :) today was so so so busy but at 9:30 I told myself to get to it and workout, so I did!
But calorie wise I've been over eating alot. It's not unhealthy food really just too much of it. Tomorrow I'm going to be back on a stricter plan. Ugh and yoga is tomorrow. It's not that I don't like it, it's just 90 minutes is a really long time!
Becca - not to sound rude but google is your friend. :) Basically p90x is a 90 day program that is all about muscle confusion. A lot of weights, some cardio, stretching, etc. Not for someone new to exercise. It's an expensive program unless you can find it online or borrow it from someone. Def good for muscle toning!
Good luck, y'all!

Tomorrow is Plyo.. I am on suppose to be on week 7 but think I will restart week 6 since it was a bad week... Good side is that I only gained 1 pound.... I was really not looking foward to weighing myself....

thanks guys, I think I'm out of the clear for the strep throat. and soooo happy!
I switched to classic after doing two weeks of lean. I still do the cardio X sometimes though in addition.
Logan- We are on the same schedule. I did sholders and arms today and I'm dreading yoga in the morning. I'm horrible at it. I started to do a log too and I think it's really motivating to see the improvment and try to beat the past weight/reps.
tracy- I'm not weighing myself i think I'd cry if I saw that I gained after all these workouts even though I know it's probably muscle! way to go with week 6!- even if you repeating it- your still half (almost) way!!!!

I have a question for you all that I can't seem to find an answer. I sometimes do the ab ripper in the early morning if I have some time before my son wakes up (only on days I'm suppose to do it). But I do the other dvd during his mid morning nap. so my question is is this ok? or am I suppose to do the ab ripper right after the main workout?
platformnine
02-17-2011, 01:48 PM
BLCarter - Good job for getting back on track!
activemommywanted - I don't see a problem with breaking up workouts, BUT you might want to warm up before doing the ab ripper to get your muscles warm so that you don't hurt yourself.
I went to my spin class this morning and did my yoga - I did what I said I would and added 10 minutes onto my time for 50 minutes! Woo! The standing split pose is KILLER. My leg was on FIRE!!!!
And since I have been bummed that my TOM water weight hasn't shoved off yet I peeked at some of my measurements today, not much so far but I did drop 0.25in on my lower waist - which is the largest part of my stomach hooray!

And I bet you could finish the yoga dvd, the last 30 minutes are pretty easy. except for the one pose I like to call the neck breaker. :).
Blcarter84
02-18-2011, 09:37 AM
Activemommy- I also agree that Ab Ripper really isn't supposed to be used alone only because there is no warm up for it so your muscles aren't necessarily "ready". But hey sometimes us moms get it in when we can ya know:) Also I follow the South Beach Diet program as much as possible and that works for me.
Mary- yay on losing on the measurements. Its not always the scale that shows our progress...hard to remember that sometimes though! Great job keeping on
So I am back on track and yesterday finally broke out of the 190's!! YAY Hoping to bust through these next 10lbs in just a couple of weeks. Did Yoga last night at 11pm after I got home from work but was soo tired I only got half of it done.

blcarter- thanks for the advice. It was my first time not doing it after a workout and I don't think that i was able to get a good ab workout in doing it seprately. ohhh wedding stuff, sounds fun! and congrats on the loss! what week are you on now?
glitterhairdye
02-18-2011, 11:09 AM
Mary - The last 30 min aren't bad at all. I skip standing shoulder pose because I'm awful at shoulder stands. Most of it is really light stretching though. Really good for you! But congrats on adding in 10 min. Gets a little easier every week!
Activemommy - Try some cobra/up dog poses before and then some light running in place before hand and I think you'll be fine. I rarely warm up before workouts anyway and it's never been a problem for me.
Kenpo was today. Don't love it for some reason. i don't feel like it's that good of a calorie burner so I may switch it up with another video next week. i don't even sweat until the first 15 min are over. I dunno, suggestions?
platformnine
02-18-2011, 08:14 PM
BLCarter - Congrats on breaking through the 190s!!!
Glitterhairdye - I think eventually I'll have the whole thing in. It's just such a long time, and I do go to a one hour spin class at the gym on the same day I do yoga. How much intensity are you putting into your punches? I don't always sweat right away when I'm doing kickboxing because you aren't jumping around as much, it's like a controlled movement kind of thing. The breathing is really important too!
----
I was sooo tired today so I didn't do my legs and back/ab ripper. I'm going to do them tomorrow and take today as my rest day. I had to scout a few locations for my client's engagement shoot today so I was running around taking test shots all over at the locations. Then we went to the mall and walked around for a while. Only ate about 1300 calories today and drank a TON of water/green tea so hopefully tomorrow I'll see a movement on my stubborn scale :)
glitterhairdye
02-20-2011, 03:09 PM
Mary - Hope you saw some movement today! 1300 is def a good day. I do put a lot of intensity into my punches, I did a boxing class as well as a couple of basic martial arts classes in college and I learned how to throw a decent punch then but my heart rate just doesn't get up. Someone suggested that I do lunges, running, juping jacks etc in between sets so I'll give it one more week and try that.
Woohoo! Week 3 has begun! I busted out the pushups today doing 20 more than last week! I feel like my form has improved and I can go lower. I also made myself do more movement in between sets so I really felt it today. I'm going to try and do that more often so I can see the scale finally move!
So far I've lost 1 pound (boooo), 1.25 inches of my waist, 1.75 off my hips, and .25 off my neck since I began. I'm not happy where the scale is so I have to keep reminding myself that it's 80% diet and I need to step up that side of it.
I did a little running today but I had some heart burn problems ( I get awful heart burn when I'm stressed. I have since I was 16 :( so I only ran about a mile. Tomorrow I hope to increase that. Of course, it would help if it would get warmer!
How are y'all doing?
platformnine
02-20-2011, 06:13 PM
Glitter - That's a great idea to keep moving between the sets! I did see a little movement, but skipped weigh in today. Hoping for a big drop tomorrow though! Great job on your form improvement!
----
So like I said last week my scale really hasn't moved yet and I'm almost done phase one. In 10 days I'm taking my first measurements (I did peek and saw 0.25in gone off my lower waist :cheer:) BUT I did have another accomplishment. My boyfriend said I look thinner and that my butt is most definitely tighter! Definitely a good sign! I switched out my Kenpo today in favor of going to the gym for a spin class with my mom.

I'm getting the DVDs from a coworker, hoping to add it in a few times a week. I already work out on Wednesdays, but need something else until this weather breaks. Hoping it will help speed up the inches lost and the metabolism, but I cannot commit to the entire program as of now.
glitterhairdye
02-22-2011, 07:08 AM
Mary - Congrats on the inches lost! If bf sees it then it must be true!!
Activemommy - I cal count and try to stay between 1200-1500 a day, though I've been following off the band wagon. It's more about how much you eat than what you eat, IMHO. Calories in, cals out.
Lnm - Getting the DVDs is the first step and 1-1.5 a day is a lot to commit to, but I highly recommend it. I've been so much more sore and had more of a workout than I have had in a long time. And by sticking to a program you're more likely to commit yourself to exercise because you need to work out more than just once a week!! But of course it all depends on your fitness level. It's kind of a hard program to just do a DVD every now and then, I think jillian michael's 30 day shred would probably be more effective for you.
Totally didn't want to work out today. I was dragging my feet the whole time! But I have to leave in about 20 min so I knew I had to finish and get out of here before then. The main thing I didn't want to do was ab ripper, no sure why, but I finally did it. Then I ran. Now I have a 30 min bike ride to get to my friend's house. Haha Sometimes I just wish I could sit down. I think being lazy is ingrained in me.
And I haven't seen the scale move! I'm so mad!!!!!

My problem is that I am a teacher, and I am pulling 13 hour days right now tutoring for the OAAs that are coming up. I literally have no time for me, let alone a 90 minute workout each day. Well today is tough. I worked two jobs and spent the early morning at the doctors for a check up. I've been yawning all day. I have no motivation foor legs and back tonight... I hope I can find the motivation I need soon.... I feel so lame .... its only day 5....
hi everyone!
so i am 5 minutes away from starting P90X - that's right, today is DAY 1!
However, I think I'm going to modify it a little bit... as in, not do it every day, and instead do some of my "regular" workout stuff. but we'll see how it goes - maybe I'll love it?!?!?!
i've always been weary of P90X because of the equipment (dumbells, pull up bar, resistance band). I don't have any of that stuff and have no intention of buying it either when i have access to a full gym. I also live in a super small apartment so there is nowhere to PUT any of that stuff!
anyways - wish me luck! I'm sure you'll see me posting here in 90 minutes or so :)

I'm considering either purchasing TurboFire or P90X because I need a workout video that really kicks my behind into gear. So, I'm curious if any of you ladies have tried both, why you love P90X, and where you purchased the program? Thanks in advance for your comments

Avie welcome! Good luck with day 1 I'm sure you'll know right away it works! I like in a tiny apartment I only bought the pull up bar and bands , the bar just sits connected to my bathroom door and I hang the bands on it. They don't take up too much space. But I totally understand not wanting to spend money :) get your sweat on!
Kristilin13- I've never heard of turbofire but I love p90x. I won't lie its hard. It takes motivation. I always look at b4 and afters to get me in the mood, I think that could be me in 90 short days if I just push play. So if you want a swift kick in the tush p90x will do it. As long as you don't get discouraged and just do what you can you'll see changes! Good luck on choosing :)
Okay I didn't do my legs and back and abx on day 3, I know boo! But today was my rest day and I did it so I'm back on track. I'm proud of myself. There's a lot I can't do still but that's good since that's how I plan on monitoring progress.... screw the scale! When I can do all o the mason twist and my fat isn't in the way so I can touch the floor I'm happy lol! Hope everyone is enjoying their workouts!
ok, so i'm back to check in and confirm that I DID IT! YAY!
so a few observations...
1.i only had a resistance band and nothing to hang it over. i managed to do everything but not sure if it was the same effectiveness... but it worked me out.
2. holy smokes, a lot of push ups/pull ups. the subtleties between the different exercises were also kinda confusing. any way i can do a pushup is a success in my books- no need to differentiate military from wide from.. i cant even remember!
3. those diving ones are tough!
4. i didnt sweat that much. is that normal?
5. the time went by really, really quickly.
on the whole it wasnt my favourite workout but that doesnt mean it isnt effective or worth doing again. i'm looking forward to doing the next video tomorrow!
how does that compare with each of you?maybe i just missed something, lol!

Question on nutrition -- I've just acquired the P90x program (borrowed from a friend) and don't particularly feel like buying/cooking my own food instead of what's served in the dining hall. It looks like the diet plan is basically to eat not that much and make most of it protein and vegetables and NO grains. Is that about right?
Is the nutrition plan necessary/effective? Can I try to follow it in terms of general guidelines without the menu? It looks basically like Atkins or SBD induction, just... forever. :(

Glitterhairdye - We all have days like that, but good for you for deciding to start the week over! It's better to re-do a bad week than to push through and feel like you didn't accomplish it!
freeqeegrl - That's what I love about the program, it makes me WANT to be able to do these moves! When I can do the mason twist with my legs in the air the whole time (and yes, less pudge in the middle please!) I'll be proud of myself! Right now I can only hold them up for 25 reps. Congrats on finishing week 1! Phase 1 goes by fast! And don't forget to drink lots of water to help with your muscle soreness!
avie - As far as the pull ups go, I modify it with handheld weights instead of resistance bands or the bar (we have a bar, but I don't want to use it). The trick is to have your body be in the same angle as it would be if you were doing a pull up. Tony talks about it in one of the dvds. I'm the same way too - ANY pushup is an accomplishment in my book! Those dive ones kill me, and the "under the fence" one. OMG.
-----
Just started phase 2. Chest, shoulders, triceps? HOLY CRAP. And I thought the pushups in the phase 1 workouts hurt! Definitely need to work on one-handed pushups... BUT when I did the ab ripper I was able to do more reps than I could for the first three weeks, wahoo! Granted, still not all of them - but I'm proud that my fitness advanced :D

Sad that I gave up 2 weeks ago but life just got in the way. I think it was the amount of time that it takes. 1+ hour is a lot, especially when I can only do it pre-6 am after 10 pm or during a 2 hour slot during the day. I just don't have a lot of options. I know that sounds like excuses but it just got to be where I felt like I didn't have any time especially because I have to walk the dumb dog for an hour in the morning and half and hour in the early afternoon.
I'm going to use the rest of the week to look for a program that's a little shorter and just as intense or figure out how to make it work.
Another issue I have is that I felt like I just didn't feel any change in myself and I don't have the weights or bands to really push myself. I wonder if a more cardio intense program is for me. I think I'll look into insanity and we'l see how it goes from there.
Suggestions, girls?
Mary - AWESOME! You pushed through and made it to phase 2!
Blcarter - 3 1/2 months and you can do it! Good job having the guts to start over. I may be there with you pretty soon

Hello Ladies. I just stumbled on this forum and am so excited. I have started ( and stopped) P90x several times but this time am sticking to it. I have a wedding in three months and really need to buckle down. I am on week 2 of phase 1 this week and holy cow am I sore. I combine it with about 3 days of cardio and so far it is working pretty well. I am really bad about my eating sometimes and despite the fact that the scale doesnt always move I am definitely seeing improvement in my body. I can already do much more of all the exercises that I did last week which is really exciting and hopefully next week I will make it through all the routines without extra breaks. My fiance did P90x last year and lost 30 lbs in 90 days! So now we are doing it together and its so nice to have the extra motivation. Is anyone posting progress pics?

Kaly- I am on Day 4 today (I started over) I did the first 30 days in January and then had to take a break because well life happens lol. but I took progress pics from day 1 and day 30...soooo not posting them until I redo phase one. BUT I did the lean program the first time around and am doing the classic version this time.
I am soooooooooo sore today and on top of that TOM is super super super bad!! Thank god today is Yoga lol....I dont think I could handle a bunch of jumping around:) I ate WAY too much in one spurt last night though but at least it wasn't BAD food!
Getting nervous that the wedding is in just over 3 months YIKES! Time to BRING IT!

Hey guys, I'm so glad I found this thread! I just started P90x and am just finishing up week 1. I'm doing sort of a modified version though since I live in an old apartment building with very thin floors and thus can't do any of the jumping activities, so instead of plyo and actually cardio, I'm running outside on those days. I feel kind of cheated because plyo is supposted to be really tough, but oh well, p90x is tough enough anyway and with the weather getting warmer, I have to be outside:)
I did legs and back yesterday and while I was doing it, I was thinking, "this is hard, but not too bad." Today my butt muscles are so sore that I can barely sit down! I couldn't finish all of the exercises, but I didn't feel like I was going to die or anything. The same thing happened with the ab ripper. I couldn't finish everything, overall it wasn't too bad, but then my abs killed from Monday until Thursday! At least I know it's working...
I have to go back and read the rest of the thread now - it's great to hear how each person is doing as they progress through the program. Good luck everyone!

So I am starting on week 2 again this week since last week I missed 2 workouts due to wedding stuff. I hate missing Kenpo on saturdays since its a good workout and I didnt do much cardio all week. Hopefully this week I can stay completely on track. Im hoping I really see some results soon. Im starting to stress since the wedding is exactly 3 months away!

So week 2 day 3 and I am completely exhausted. Lol. Plyo kicked my butt last night and I added in an extra 1.5 mile run for good measure and am
Feeling it today. I'm feeling really discouraged since I haven't lost a single pound in the last two weeks but I'm hoping I will start dropping soon. Not sure what's going on since I am counting calories and eating fairly healthy. Anyone else having this issue?

I am in the middle of week 2 and I am up two or three pounds since I started despite eating on plan. I think the gain just has to do with muscle building though - I can definitely see it in my arms and my abs are looking more defined too. And my clothes are a little looser, so even though I haven't measured again, I think I've lost inches despite the weight gain.

You ladies are inspiring! I plan to re-start P90X soon. I've had so many set backs including getting the flu and then I broke 2 ribs in a snowmobiling accident 5 weeks ago. The healing feels like it's taking forever and I took 4 weeks off of exercise because of how bad it hurt. I just started exercising again this week but I'm not quite P90X-ready. Maybe another couple weeks! Can't wait to start again.

Well I missed yoga yesterday because we had some st. Pattys plans last night but I did get in a 2 mile run to hopefully counteract it. I'm up a pound since starting two weeks ago. Hoping it's muscle. Not looking forward to legs and back today( such a killer) but really need a good workout!

I'm not following the nutrition guide cause I'm a broke college girl and I need to save all the money I can.

Hey guys! I was wondering if anyone was still posting in here! I just finished week 2 of the classic. Its actually my rest day but I'm going to go for a run. Miss it and don't have time the other days. The first week I was SO sore. Sore as well this week but not like last. I haven't lost any weight either dispite staying on plan. Crossing my fingers it comes soon. Let's keep each other motivated! I REALLY want to finish the program!

Beachlover- No worried about the lack in weight loss. That happened to me as well and I was super worried about it but about week 3 I started to see the scale move at a pretty good pace.
I just finished up phase 1 and yesterday was day 1 of phase two. Im pretty sore but liking it because to the end of phase 1 I was really feeling sore anymore. Im still keeping up with the additional cardio a few days a week since I want to loose weight and not just tone up. Plyo today, oh yay!

I have all the P90x tapes on my computer and have been putting them off... they terrify me. I think I'll give it another few days and then make a serious attempt. Really admire all you girls for being on your way!

Lacadaisy- I say GO FOR IT! I was kinda weary about it before i started. Always been a cardio lover and it is mostly weights but I absolutely love it! I feel SO accomplished after each video. Also he shows ways to modify almost everything. I've had 2 knee surgeries and am still going at it. Haven't seen much movement on the scale but my new jeans that I just got are getting to loose. bitter sweet I suppose.
Yesterday went for a run in the morning and then Shoulders and arms last night. Got Yoga today. :)
