Hey Chicks!

I need some help. I’ve been in a rather crappy/depressed mood this month and yeah it is so not helping this weightloss battle either ;). I need some new tunes to help lighten the funk!

The current playlist has things like The Mountain Goats – No Children:
I hope that our few remaining friends
Give up on trying to save us
I hope we come up with a failsafe plot
To piss off the dumb few that forgave us

And Florence and the Machine - Cosmic love:
The stars, the moon, they have all been blown out
You left me in the dark
No dawn, no day, I’m always in this twilight
In the shadow of your heart

So, you can see where this depressing mood might have been encouraged :^:.

Can I get a few happier tunes that make you grin or sing along when you hear them?

So far I have very few tunes like that on my MP3 player…

Examples of what I have right now: The Darkness’ “I believe in a thing called love” and Neon Trees’ “Animal”, Eminem "Not Afraid", and that I’ll make a man out of you song from Mulan and "Stand Out" from that Goofy movie I think, but that is all I have on the MP3 player right now. Now that I think about it, maybe I should see if I can find that old Toaster cartoon movie, anyone remember that one, ah! The memories! :D

These make me :D, but they get old too fast as I listen to this MP3 thing for at least 8 hours a day at work!

So I am up for anything! Old songs, new songs, songs from silly disney movies (:o), any genre and every time period ;). Help! :(

Links are loved, but I’ll Google if you just have song titles.
I think I'll add some to this thread too tonight when I go song hunting.

Um, Sara Bareilles - Let the Rain. Its upbeat and very very positive. I saw her at Lilith Fair this summer and she said she wrote it to "Pep herself up."

Mandy Moore- Extraordinary. I Love this song and it's very uplifting and positive. Listen to her album, Wild Hope. Lots of really great songs.

Just the Way You Are by Bruno Mars. It may be a little corny for some, but I really like it. I just wish the radio didn't overplay it so much because it's starting to annoy me!

The Gabe Dixon Band-- "All Will Be Well"

An absolutely AMAZING song, especially when you're frustrated about something.

Zowie- Broken Machine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQMcEMbhack
Just about anything by Kamelot, but especially Centre of the Universe http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vq2a6D7npQw, Soul Society http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mpeu_6PJ_nM

I also like Children of Bodom, esp Mask of Sanity http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DU_x8rsVTQ although I know this isnt to everyone's taste and the lyrics could be seen as a little depressing/dark, but its such an energetic song, I really love running to it, and lets face it, no one can understand what theyre saying without the lyrics in front of them :P

Galneryus has good stuff, e.g. silent revelation http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfBI_kmDlNQ, and Deep Affection http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AE4li808aek (has awesome guitar in the middle)

A more easy listening one i guess would be Song about Ping Pong by Operator Please http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1n4gdGRM_iY (theyre coming to New Zealand! excited squeel!)

I also love a lot of the melancholy music (Pink Floyd, Echo & the bunnymen, etc.). Anyway, I find this song is a tiny bit morose but also very uplifting:

Feeling Good by Nina Simone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8tuTSi6Sck

There's also a Michael Buble version of it that's good too:

I hope you feel cheerier soon. :)

I have been on a Journey kick lately. Number one recommendation for positive uplifting song: Be Good To Yourself.

Another good one is Ask The Lonely. You would not think it a good match for what you are asking but it does put things in perspective and has a great uplifting beat.

I Gotta A Feeling by the Black Eyed Peas. Really good beat, really good fun song.

Rip It Up by Jet, lots of energy in this song!

California Girls- Katy Perry (totally silly song but good beat and fun)

Hope those help! I totally notice the influence music has on me, that's why I made an update music list for myself on my MP3 Player too! :)

"Praise Chorus" by Jimmy Eat World is one I really like, and that often makes me feel better.

Generally speaking, anything with a good beat, especially dance tunes (even some of the ones with dubious lyrics), cheer me up and make me want to move.

Funny/upbeat country and bluegrass songs (e.g., Brad Paisley's "Online", the Steep Canyon Rangers' "Lovin' Pretty Women", and the Grascals' "Happy Go Lucky" work pretty well for me too.

Showtunes can also help lighten your mood, if you like them.

Good luck finding new stuff to listen to.

Just Fine -- Mary J Blige -- it never fails to make me smile!

So.... I use a lot of Glee covers. Teenage Dream was a good one, as was the Start Me Up/Livin on a Prayer mashup, but really Glee=Super Fun.

I also secretly love Ke$ha. It's like my number one super secret. Can't help it. Love her. We R Who We R is a sick jam and it always makes me smile because it's so stupid.

I agree with whoever said Katy Perry - Fireworks has been making me smile recently.
