OK, it's time! Would anyone like to join me in an Easter Challenge?
And if anyone would like to join me, could it be Pinned?

17 weeks, chaps, it's not long!

I'll weigh in tomorrow (probably won't be good, I' d better claim today as the Great Carb Re-feed!!!:o ) and then I'm going to aim to get to my interim goal of 139 by Easter Sunday. Mamma mia! Depending on the scale tomorrow, that's 27-30lbs, and there's a trip abroad incorporated. Can we do it? Yes we can!
Come join me!

What a great idea, I'm in! And lol @ Xmas as a re-feed. Goal is 30 lbs. We'll see what happens I guess.

So I just bought my first scale ever and it seems I over estimated my starting weight. At least I was being realistic, right? 242 not 250.

Plan: Calorie Counting 1400-1500 a day. Walking 5 days, 60 minutes per.

January 16th - 144.5 New low! No illness involved! 14.5 to go
January 23rd - 143.5 My calories are such that I should lose a pound a week, but I never actually do! 13.5 to go

February 6th - 143.5 13.5

:carrot: Great to see so many on board!!

Christmas Day was odd, food-wise, for me. I had this awful sugar hangover and my mother wasn't feeling too hot either and didn't want me to make a meal. As the day wore on, I began to improve but because I wasn't making an actual meal, I picked at things here and there, including shortbread and Pringles. Tasty, yes; nutritious, no.
I began to feel the 'this is ok for one day but how do I get back from this' dread snurgling in; but as soon as I posted the list of weigh-days, I felt Hugely relieved. :) Any minute now......

Oh I am definitely in. Would like to get to 170 by Easter. Not sure how the next phase will go, but am up for the challenge!
Can't weigh in until we return to Belgium on 28th, but I guess I might have put a pound or two on. I ate very clean, but certainly ate (and drank) more than normal. Also have not been able to get as much water as I would like in!
Seems funny to be heading towards Easter on Boxing day, but the challenge really helped me lose the first 100 lbs :D

Hi, I'm new here and need somewhere to belong. I haven't lost 100 lb and only need to lose 65 total. I'd love to join you all to keep me motivated and accountable. Would you mind?? I don't even have a weight loss ticker yet, but I started at 199.6 and today weighed at 181.8. My goal will be just under150(ish). I think that may be pushing it but someone told me if you set a goal and achieve it you may have set it too low so I'm going for the high side -31.8 lbs by April 24th. Thanks

December 26th - 181.8

I'm definitely up for an Easter challenge as one of my other challenges is ending next week. I hope to lose a lot by Easter, but I'm not setting a goal per se. My goal is to lose every week (not gain). Although, I wouldn't be surprised if I gained this week after Christmas. I weigh in on Thursdays, so I'll just add my weigh in weight.

Great to see so many keen chickies here! We can definitely do it!

akacutie, you asked about plans:

I plan
*to eat not much more today
*to continue the week until Thursday (within which time my family will have arrived and departed) eating small amounts of whatever; not calorie counting but definitely calorie logging
*from Friday have a week at 1200, carb heavyish, as per the Carb Lover's Diet but not using their recipes, instead being ultra-economical with all the various leftovers I'll still have
*from a week later go back up to 1400, using more of the recipes after the leftovers have run out
*go to Israel for a week, and eat sensibly and loggingly
*for the remainder of the time, go back to 1400 CLD, with the odd 1200 week thrown in.

Vickilou, by "pinned" I meant made into a sticky, like the Christmas one was, but now I see so many other challenges going on (hurrah!), there's no reason why this particular one should be stickified.
It might be good to have all the challenges stickied? It's sometimes easy for them to get lost, this is such an amazingly busy board!

I have high hopes for joining these challenges. When I thought about my goal weight - 210#, it just seems so impossible to weigh that low since it has been so long since I have seen that number (2001). I can't help but have doubts about my success. I want to amaze myself.

Howdy Ladies!
I am not off to a great start to the Easter challenge!! I am at the gym as I type this doing a very low impact work out which is better than none I admit! I didn't want to come in when I got here so this is a start!
I have been helping my mom out at her shop since I graduated Nursing school about a week ago..... That place is a junk food emporium! I have such a hard time there because I just want to snack on chips, cookies, and candy!! I have been too! I haven't counted my points all week! Today I am not going to get McDonalds for breakfast not.a good way to start out the day for sure! I will count P2ks today!!!! I am making a healthy breakfat when get home and am going to stop for Veggies to bring to work to snack on instead of junk!!
It's good to share the action plan with yall!

I having been doing weight watcherd for 2 years now and have made good progress(slowed down during nursing school!) But I would love to make it to goal which is about 30 lbs away! Besides counting P2 (points plus new ww plan) I do 4-5 days of cardio at the gym at least 45 minutes up to 60 mins. I plan to ad 2 days of weights in now that I have more free time!

How is everyone else doing on plan? Leftovers getting to ya?

akacutie, way to go on your success so far. I am 5 months in to WW and am down 54 pounds. I hope I can concur this Easter challenge. I am finding it hard to get back on track after the holidays but am managing and have even started incorporating the 30 day shred to get some toning going. Hopefully I can get into a gym soon and do some working out. Awesome plan you have!

akacutie

tschaff04- Thanks!! :) You are doing GREAT at WW! How are you liking the new plan? I haven't been on enough yet to really say.... LOL This week is going to be awesome though- at least the rest of it!

I am at work now... No treats yet! :dizzy: I told my mom I wasn't going to snack today so that helped I think....

cutie, Look how much you've already lost, I'm jealous (in a good way) don't worry everyone slips a little, just ask yourself: Is that McD's really worth it (hopefully the answer is no most of the time) I'm not a big fast food eater so that's not really a problem for me. AND remember you are at the gym and doing something. Just keep moving

TSchaff, 54 lbs OMG that is sooooooo good keep it up. I too started doing 30 day shred, in fact I did it this AM, OMG. I love that its short but boy do you work hard.

I actually started with BL last chance workout and did that for 2 months, but alas I am tired of doing the same thing, soooooooooo what I am going to do is: Six week six pack abs (day 1) BL Last chance workout (day 2) 30 day shred (day 3) then repeat for days 4-6) then on day 7 I will do the 5 mile walk (Leslie Sansone). I am also going to try to do a few miles in the evening on the days I am off work, just for a little extra.

OK, I've written another book. I'm off to the store for peppers, squash and sweet potato (to make baked sweet potato fries) i have several recipes and now I'm going to try them out . . . we'll see

Everyone have a great day and just keep moving.

Starting late, but at least I'm starting. I had a weightloss meltdown a few months back. Over the previous year, I tried to lose weight, stalled, got more restrictive, stalled, got even more restirctive, got even more unhappy and finally 'blew up'. I was doing eveything right, but not losing weight. I've had all the tests and I'm fine so there's no real reason I can point to I just wasn't losing and getting more and more frusterated and stressed. So I've been floundering and have regained allmost all the weight I lost {it wasn't much to begin with:(}. I'm going to start with 'baby steps' and see what happens. Maybe set a goal for each week? I don't want to get stressed and unhappy again. :dizzy:

I think I should start by cleaning up my eating. We have Christmas goodies but I am proud to admit I haven't gone crazy. I need to eat more fruits and veggies {why is it always fruits and veggies?}. I'm also an emotional eater, so food is the tricky part for me. I feel I need to make out a generic eating plan to follow, so that will be my 'job' for today.:o

Looking forward to getting to know you as the weeks pass...

patchworkpenguin
12-28-2010, 11:31 PM
I did fairly well with my eating except today I bake bread and when I pulled the finished loaves out of the oven I couldn't resist and ate a few slices. Could have been worse.:o This was after a fairly large dinner so now I'm feeling stuffed. not good!

I did 50min of cardio weight intervals {Firm Target Toning} that I had planned for today. I decided I'm tired of doing pushups on my knees, I want to advance to 'toes' pushups. I have 'werid' knees so when pushups come up in my DVD workouts, I have to pull out a yoga mat to cushion them.

I worked on my food plan. I'm on Christmas break so I may have to write another one in a few weeks, or tweak this one.

I'm just holding fire on getting really stuck in. All my family go home tomorrow, and that will clear headspace for me to get going properly. My choice, not their fault.

akacutie, Thank you! I really love the new plan! With the old plan, let's be honest, it was really easy to still eat foods we probably shouldn't be eating very often. I know I was able to get away with it, and yes, I did still lose weight but it wasn't always the healthiest way. With the new plan I find I am eating in a really healthy way. I am snacking on apples, oranges, or some other fruit when I have a sweet tooth as opposed to a low cal/fat snack. I love it! I already loved fruits so it's awesome that they are no points. :)

Madambutterfly, thank you so much! I am right there with you. I have two small children and I am a SAHM so it's hard to find time to work out without them wanting me to hold them, or play with them etc. So to be able to get a good work out in, in a shorter amount of time is AWESOME! Day three of the shred for me. I am really feeling it.

MadamButterfly
12-29-2010, 12:36 PM
OK, did I bite off more than I can chew . . . UGH and OH NO!!

My plan is to do six week, six pack abs on Sun & Wed, 30-day shred on Mon & Thur and Last chance workout on Tue & Fri, then for a breather do 5 mile walk with Leslie Sansone on Sat. That way different muscles hurt on different days. I'm not even through one week and need an eighth day in the week to do NOTHING, UGH and double UGH!!!

Now the 30 day shred and 6-week, 6-pack abs are new videos for me so they seem VERY HARD. The last chance workout was very hard but I've been doing it for a couple months and finally feel like I'm doing all the moves without doing a "beginner" version. Is it because the other videos are new, I think I'm just frustrated I can't do the videos as well as I'd like. I'm not too tired to do them, I . . . hmmmmmm just feel like I'm not doing them well enough. Maybe just some time to get used to them . . .

Note: I do prefer videos that are a bit of a challenge.

Food, water, fruits, veggies a& protein are all in tact. I still allow myself 5 chocolate hershey kisses a day (more of a mental thing) I usually only have one or two, some days none (when I eat enough protein I don't even want chocolate . . . who just said that. and no I don't get to carry over kisses from the day before. LOL

OK this is too long, maybe just give myself some time to adjust to the videos and give myself a break . . . at least I'm attempting to do them.

OK, this was too long . . .

Madambutterfly, I've been doing DVD workouts for years and I feel there's always a learning curve with new ones. Don't be hard on yourself, as you said you are still doing them, even if you don't follow all the moves exactly. I modifly most of my DVD workouts anyway. I work out in my small living room {5x8 space}, right under a ceiling fan, so I can't do a lot of 'over the head' moves, especially with weights. I pick and choose my 'high impact' moves, and I can't 'drop to the floor' for pushups or 'mountain climbers' in the middle of cardio unless I want to black out on the way back up. So I do different exercises working the same muscle groups when these come up. I tend to like the more advanced workouts also, that way I have something to work towards, and I can grow with the workout, because being able to do everything the first time would be boring and I don't want to do it again.

I'm still here. Kids are on vacation so I have to wrest the computer from them sometimes.

MadamButterfly - it took me 4 days straight of 30 day shred before it stopped hurting so much. Then I promptly got bronchitis and have been sick/on antibiotics for over a month. I haven't been able to do it since and am dreading the 4 days of pain when I start back. All I can do for exercise right now is walk when the weather allows.

I had planned on eating out for lunch today because we were going to take my aunt out, but she didn't feel like going out so now my calories are really low for the day. I will clear 1000, but I won't make 1200 unless I eat until I'm stuffed. Maybe I'll calorie cycle up tomorrow. The kids want to make pumpkin cupcakes before school starts again. Luckily, they freeze well and while I love them, I'm able to say no to cupcakes.

This sounds like a good way to incorporate some accountability into my weight loss efforts. Count me in! I was away from my scale on the 26th, but my current weight is 271.4. I'd like to get down to 239 by April 24th. That would be a loss of 32.4 lbs.

December 30th - 271.4
January 2nd - 270.4
January 9th - 270.0
January 16th - 271.8
January 23rd - 268.8

March 6th - 258.2
March 13th - 255.4
March 20th - 256.0

April 3rd - 255.6
April 10th - 258.6
April 17th - 253.5
April 24th - 258.2

Haha! So, not quite where I wanted to end up. That's okay, though. It's still a net loss of 13.2 lbs. I've also managed to get back into 22s, which is definitely a step in the right direction, and dropped 2.3 points from my BMI!

This was good!

I was much better by the next morning (I think I was overtired also) I need my sleep!!!

Wow, that's a lot of us!!!!! Excellent stuff.

I think time being finite, it probably would be better to each update our own lists. What I did on the fantastic Christmas Jiggle challenge was weekly to quote my own list, remove the quote brackets, and show only the start weight and the current weight (with the future dates too). That way, even on weeks when I was annoyed at my weightloss, comparing it to my startweight was a big thrill.

I'll add us all up at the end though!

So, there are 15 weeks between now and Easter Sunday. My goal is to weigh 235 on that day. Starting weight:

JAN 08: 255.5

:bunny2: Easter, here we come!

I will join too! Good to have some perspective beyond my Valentine's Day Challenge. I will set a goal of 219 lbs for Easter, which is my second mini milestone goal (the weight would equal just something slightly below 100 kg - and since I am counting in SI system when off 3FC, what a dream! :) ).

Volleyballsis, hang in there. I'm going to soak in a tub with bubbles, candles and soft music, my muscles are aching today . . .

I also ordered the Zumba DVD's does anyone do that???? I've been watching clips on Youtube and I'm so excited to try them

Everyone hang in there, 15 more weeks . . .

Zumba... That sounds cool Madam... I haven't ever done it, but heard good things from others....

I have finally discovered Spin class at my gym... i LOVE it! My husband has been coming with me and he was quite surprised at how awesome the work out is! :)

I have been doing well with eating and exercise... I am back on track after the holidays! :)

How is everyone else in the challenge doing? Check in!

kaebaka

I managed not to get too derailed by the holidays, only delayed by 1 pound from where I'd ideally like to be on my official weigh-in days, although it looks like I'm almost completely back on track based on all of the weights from my non-official days (of course it was higher on challenge weigh in day, lol). Today the scale was down another 1.5 from Sunday's weigh in, so I'm pretty sure that I'll be on track for next week's weigh in. I'm feeling great about this challenge!

I have been using my school's gym as much as possible, about 4 days a week and working out for about 1.5 hours each trip. I think I am more excited about being able to tell the difference in my fitness / activity level than the progress on the scales! I am working my way through C25K now that I've finally worked my way through starting the program. I've been doing about 30 minutes on the treadmill, some weight training, 30 minutes on a seated elliptical, and a friend just showed me how to use the rowing machines. I've never in my life felt so happy and energized after exercising as I have lately. :D

Now that the undergrads are back and the group fitness classes are starting up again, maybe I'll even check them out. I'm pretty sure we have at least one zumba class. I wonder if dance fitness classes work for someone who has absolutely no rhythm?? Maybe it would help me learn some coordination on my feet to put into actual dancing efforts in the future. :p

Can I join in late? I just joined the website/forums a few days ago and have been searching around for some goals to keep me motivated. This one seems perfect!

Easter is the end of the semester (and my entire degree!) for me and the week my thesis is due, so this will be incentive not to let stress derail me from my progress!

SW: 277.2 (But today is 272!)
GW: By Easter, 237.2! (It might be a TAD bit of a long shot, but I think the first 10-15 pounds should be fast so I'll give it a try!)

01/09 - 275.6 (38.4 to go!)
01/16 - 270.0 (I was 265 yesterday but had a bit too much fun last night, I believe...)
01/23 - 268 (TOM = slower weight loss than I would like! But hey, at least the scale's going in the right direction overall!)
01/30 - 266.2 (I was 256.4 last night before bed... where do the 10 pounds come from!?!?!?)
02/06 - 267.2 (VERY bad week mentally, hope to get back on track this week! Just happy it's ONLY one more pound!)

Well, poo --- I am going the wrong darn direction! I'm supposed to be evicting pounds, not inviting new ones home for dinner! Looks like I better run a tighter ship this coming week.

Still no Zumba, MadamButterfly? Drat --- I have heard good things about it and was looking forward to your expert evaluation. Still, you obviously have found plenty of good things to keep you busy -- and to chase away those evil pounds....

And AkaCutie -- how cool that you are taking your husband out for a spin. What? OHHHhhhhhhh ... you are taking a spin class with your husband. That isn't COMPLETELY different than what I had imagined.... ;)

Wow, Kaebaka --- you are hitting it hard and hitting it often. Kudos to you for both the intensity and the variety of your workouts. And I bet if you stick out the dance-like class just 2 times, you will discover that you really do have rhythm and that you really enjoy the class.

Hey, Patrizia! Did you get the thesis turned in? What degree are you in? Nothing like a little spring stress to keep you motivated, hmmm? Good for you for keeping your priorities clear when there must be some serious demands on your time!

You can't fool us, Rosinante --- we know you are working hard. All we have to do is look at your amazing progress. So, if you should happen to look over your shoulder and see a rather rotund conga line exercising behind you, don't worry --- it's just your loyal little egg-sters following your lead. You go, girl!

Starbrite, you are really making this Easter challenge work! I guess that's why you ALSO have such an amazing record of loss. I have no doubt at all that you are going to be at goal when Easter rolls around. Kudos!

Aasshhlleeyy --- welcome to the challenge!

Great job all around for all those numbers heading downward! We're collectively doing a fantastic job of recovering from / pushing past that dreaded holiday season.

Rosinante - Your progress pics are looking great! Have a fantastic time on your trip!

I haven't tried a zumba class yet. BUT! After much pleading I convinced my sister to try an at home dance fitness video with me that had gotten fairly decent reviews on Netflix. We cleared out the living room floor and got started... After fifteen minutes of flailing around our eyes were getting wider and wider at all of the crazy "choreography" that the girls were doing on screen. You mean you want us to move our arms and legs, AND torsos, all at the same time?? In different directions??? Ha ha. So. Maybe a bit more practice in private before I take my skills (or lack there of) out to the zumba floor. I am going to check out our Aquacise class Tuesday night after work with a friend though.

I hope linking to this is okay.... I did a google image search for a visualization of fat volume a couple weeks ago. This is a result that comes up for 5 lbs of fat. I can tell that I am looking less pudgy when I look it the mirror, but it is hard for me to tell where 6 of these would have come from off my body so far!!

http://bp3.blogger.com/_ny7zBVp2bfA/RxUYSTAznSI/AAAAAAAAAAs/ai_O8Sg6PrI/s320/5lbsfat.bmp

The challenge is still going well for me, still hitting up the gym as much as I can! Although today when I walked in, they were taking my favorite cardio machine (a seated elliptical) out on a stretcher. :( Hopefully they'll bring it back soon, I loooove how much of a workout it is for both my legs and my arms! It is definitely helping with toning.

I'll be leaving for my own vacation on Tuesday probably, and then no gym for me for a whole week! I hope I won't turn back into a puddle when I get to resume working out.... or eat too much delicious food and push myself back even further from my next mini-goal. 199 is feeling soooo close!

Hahahaha! I didnt know you guys were chatting in this thread. I've just been updating my first page.

I might need to up my goal loss weight. I've lost 13 lbs in my first month. If I can maintain that for two more months well...that would be awesome!

Tried hummus for the first time today. Man that stuff is addicting!

MadamButterfly
01-21-2011, 01:20 AM
Patrizia, look at the pic kaebaka posted of the 5 pounds of fat (20 sticks of butter) it even looks like butter and butter is after all just fat . . . just wait until you lose 10 pounds, that's 40 sticks of butter . . . THAT'S A LOTTA BUTTER!!!! Besides I think it helps when your losses are smaller, it's always a lot of butter . . . just keep on moving . . .

foodmasochist - 2 pounds is nothing to sneeze at, it's a great start and from what I understand it's better if it comes off slower . . . don't know for sure but it makes sense . . . we didn't put on the weight in a month or two and we surely are not going to take it off in a month or two . . .

kaebaka - hang in there on vacation, maybe take a DVD, if you have one, sometimes they have DVD machines in the rooms . . . or take some long walks, either way I'm sure you'll do just fine

LastNoel - WOW, 13 pounds, that's wonderful . . . I'm sure you worked for it too . . . keep it up!

Easter is coming and we are all going to melt that butter AWAY!!

Patrizia
01-21-2011, 02:09 AM
kaebaka & MadamButterfly: I LOVE that picture (by which I mean, it terrifies me...)! I wasn't quite seeing the difference but now I'm starting to notice it! I actually managed to go to the gym every day this week (exercise is always the last thing I manage to get down...) so I think that is definitely helping my mentality and attitude towards the whole process! I just feel... healthier.

Also, the idea of a seated elliptical sounds wonderful! Do upright ellipticals ALSO help arms, or just the seated version? I've been doing the elliptical at least 30 mins a day (plus some other stuff, of course), but I wasn't sure if it was working more than just the legs.

kaebaka
01-21-2011, 01:29 PM
I think that upright ellipticals are also supposed to work your arms, but for me I just feel like I end up waving my arms around! My legs are used to carrying 200+ pounds of weight around... but my arms whine if I try to lift 30. With the seated elliptical (at least the one at my gym) it has a set resistance level and you can sort of work on evening out the amount of work being done with your upper vs. lower body. Plus our brand (Octane) has a couple different workout-booster modes you can turn on and off. One of them is a muscle endurance mode where every 60 seconds it randomly changes the resistance and muscle group. If it switches to arms only, there are pegs above the foot pads to rest your feet on, and it's just your arms doing all the work (for 15 seconds) on a higher resistance level. Painful, but I love it. I can really tell a difference in upper body strength after just a few weeks.

I haven't been in to the gym yet today. I've been trying to get there around 9:30 am, but today I woke up and it was about -10 F outside. Ha ha... I will try to venture out after noon and see if it is warm enough that I can withstand scraping the ice off my car.

And yes, Last Noel. Totally agree with you. Hummus. Soooo tasty. :)

Awesome job everyone! We are doing some great collective work on this challenge, and will indeed be one group of even more awesome looking chickies come Easter.

MadamButterfly, down another 2, great! I bet doing Zumba is helping to work some different muscle groups.

Jen: 4 lbs! OMG!!! Heh heh. I would be super excited and disbelieving too, great job!

Theox, great job getting back on the downward trend! And by 3 from last week, that's a great change!

Patrizia, I totally hear you about TOM. My weight has pretty much been stable since Tuesday, but it usually goes down about a pound in that time period. I'm guessing it's also the imminent TOM etc. But even if it's slower than you like, 2 lbs is doing a great job!

I will be heading out for my road-trip vacation tomorrow everyone, so I'll miss next week's weigh in. Keep up all the great work and let's just hope I can at least maintain until I get back! :o

Pre-Vacation weigh-in on 1/23: 204.5
Post-Vacation weigh-in on 2/6: 203.5

Well, I stayed in the right direction even if 1 pound isn't a super great change for 2 weeks. But I was able to do some brief cardio work outs at most of the hotels we stayed at, as well as dragging my friends on some very fun desert hikes. So the activity level helped to offset all of the delicious food that I ate while touring the Southwest US. Back home now, though, and back to work! :)

How is everyone else faring? Did we all enjoy the epic snowstorm? I enjoyed watching it on the news from sunny southern california, although when I got home I had to dig my car out from over 2 foot tall snow drifts. Fun!

Mid-week checking in... Know those fun hikes I mentioned above on my trip to California / the southwest? Guess who apparently went diving face first through a forest of poison-oak... Ha ha ha ow. :)

Between going on vacation and coming back only 1 pound down after 2 weeks, and then going to the doctor and having them put me on steroids to help calm the ridiculous over-the-top immune response I've been having to the poison-oak, I figured that I was waving a sad sad sad good-bye to my first mini-goal of being below 200 by Valentine's day.

Then I stepped on the scale yesterday morning, and it said 200.5!! I didn't believe it, so I checked 3 more times, and compared against the scale at the gym last night (200.8, that seems pretty consistent to me!). I don't even know for sure when my weight crept up past 200; either senior year of high school or freshman year of college, probably some time in 2002. I am sooo unbelievably excited, I absolutely can't wait until Sunday for my next "official" weigh-in. :D

I'm at 144.5 right now. It's so slow lately that I'm starting to doubt that I'm still losing - my weight is really bouncing around lately, but I'm only eating 1200 - 1350 cals a day! How can I not be losing? My Plate says that I should be losing 1 - 1.5 lbs a week, but obviously that estimation of my metabolism is too high.

:carrot::carrot::carrot:

Okay ladies, so the scale finally tipped last wednesday, but I've been waiting for it to be consistent for several days now to claim it, so that's what I'm gonna do. Onderland, literally for the first time that I can remember!

Starting, December 26th - 213
Last week: February 6th - 203.5 (-1) ... first weigh in after getting back from vacation.
This week: February 13th - 197.5 (-6)

I am assuming that I was just having a lot of food / water weight hanging around when I got back making the scale look a little higher, and that the real fat loss was actually occurring a little more spread out over that full time period.

Checking my measurements today vs. February 2nd, the day I got back... 11 days of changes resulted in a 1" drop in the chest, 1.5" in the waist, 2" in the hips, 0.75" in the thighs, and 0.25" in the calf. I am honestly completely astonished at how much those measurements dropped over the last couple weeks, but I guess maybe working out has actually built up muscle or something like that. :)

This forum has really been inspirational, and this challenge specifically has been really key to the progress that I've made so far, so thank you all of you! Great job to everyone so far, let's all stay motivated! The weather is absolutely lovely here today (for Iowa, anyway! :) ), and now that I'm finally up on a Sunday afternoon I'm going to head out to the gym for a while, and maybe even go for a walk outside to take advantage of the above-freezing weather!

My official Sunday 2/13 weigh-in was 197.5... but today I'm at 196, and that's exactly 40 pounds down from my start weight! Yay!

I went to the mall to pick up some new jeans yesterday, and I'm finally in the smallest size that Lane Bryant carries. I also went to JC Penney's and looked at some of their clearance tops, and found a couple that were super cute and cheap... $3 each! I'm not sure if I am happier about getting a super good deal, or that I walked into a store, went straight to the non-plus size section, and every item that I took into the dressing room fit! :D

So between today's 40 pound milestone and yesterday's shopping mental boost, I finally decided to post some progress pics over in the mini-goals section. If you look carefully on my most recent picture, you can also still see some fading red marks from my poison-oak adventures. ;)

Hey Kuchick... sorry about that stall, I am sure that is really frustrating! I'm not sure what you might have tried so far to help end the plateau. Have you read Eliana's stall-busting thread? When I read it, it seemed like the plan is kind of counter-intuitive for losing weight, (taking a break from exercise / calorie cycling) but she seems to have moved out of her stall by following it, so I guess strange things can work to kick our bodies into gear!

You have already made amazing progress so far, so try not to get too discouraged! :)

Today - 194.5 (-3)

There's approximately 9 weeks left in the challenge and I have about 9 more pounds to go until my challenge goal. Seems do-able!

In other news, after doing a bit of thinking I've decided to pre-emptively change my goal weight. I like the idea of losing a nice round 100 pounds, but my real goal is to reach a goal life style of being active, feeling more energetic, and looking better. I think that for me 145 will probably reflect that better, and when I reach that goal I can always re-evaluate. :)

Kaebaka - I love that one of your mini-goals is an activity, not a poundage. I never thought of that, but it's exactly the mindset I'm trying to reflect. I want to be healthier - the weight loss is a side effect. I might have to reevaluate my mini-goals! :D

Rosi, thanks for collecting all the numbers, everyone is doing really well!!

I kind of like to see percentages so I took everyones numbers and crunched them in the percentage calculator and here is what I came up with . . .

Annieoh - 3.67%
DixieChix - 6.36%
Jen516 - 5.83%
Kaebaka - 7.98%
Kuchic - 2.03%
Ky30 - 7.85%
MadamB - 7.05%
MaryOjo - 1.74%
Rosinate +3.07%
Starbrite - 6.95%
VickiLou - 2.78%

OK LADIES IT'S TIME TO KICK IT UP A NOTCH . . . WE HAVE JUST A LITTLE OVER 8 WEEKS LEFT . . . WE CAN DO IT

Maybe we can do a mini goal; March 21 is the first day of spring . . . 3 1/2 weeks away

My goal for the first day of spring will be:
1. To be under 160 lbs
2. Eat something green everyday . . . (a tribute to spring)
3. Have a spa night once a week (soak in the tub, bush hog my legs, paint my toenails, light the candles and put on some soft music and RELAX)

OK ladies . . . do you have some goals for the FIRST DAY OF SPRING!!

Rosinante- thanks for keeping track of all of this for us! I like numbers too, so thanks for the percentages MadamButterfly, that's a neat way to look at it!

I found a body fat percentage calculator and was comparing my weights with measurements since I started keeping track of the measurements at the beginning of November. I was pretty happy that my body fat % has decreased linearly with my weight, so I'm happy with the balance between gaining / losing lean mass and losing fat. Actually, according to the formula I have gained about 5 pounds of lean mass in the last 4 months. Yay muscles!

The muscles are definitely a good thing, because I got depressing news from my orthopedic surgeon on Monday. I tore my ACL about 6.5 years ago when I was at my highest weight (245) and it has been one of the issues I have struggled with in terms of getting active and getting healthier...and a big part of why my goals are more oriented towards being able to do things, as opposed to just losing weight. :) Turns out that surgery #2 which I had 8 months ago to fix my ACL has also completely failed, so my muscles are largely responsible for helping keep everything in place when I'm running around. It was a very frustrating visit, but I got to follow it up with a shopping trip to an outlet mall to replenish my closet with some clothes that fit me better, so at least that cheered me up a bit. :)

But let's see... Spring is 3.5 weeks away. The weather here in Iowa has been taunting us going back and forth between being nice and being winter, but I would love to get outside more! I have been working on the C25K program but definitely need to do an intermediate sort of step between week 3 and week 4 to help get myself to the next level. So I think my goal will be to get outside and find a 2 mile route, and walk/jog it in 25 minutes. My best times so far have been about 15 minutes per mile, so that should definitely give me a challenge.

Morning all,

February is almost over . . . where did it go ?????

Starbrite - only 10 more pounds to go !!! :woohoo: keep it going

Jen516 - Did you think of a non-weight goal??? I always like to see everyone's goals and NSV

Kaebaka: You're having a lot of nsv lately, :bravo: no more plus sizes, more lean muscle, ONE-DER-LAND . . . where did you find the formula for the lean muscle mass??? I'd love to do that. Sorry about the ortho visit . . . I am right there with you . . . I had an accident and ended up having 3 knee surgeries in 3 years along with rehab for those 3 years . . . never a good thing . . . . but FOCUS on how far you've come and how well you're doing . . . Running the 2 miles is a GREAT challenge. I know you can do it. Oh and you have thunderstorms <soooooo jealous> I'm so tired of the snow . . .

OK, ladies SPRING WILL COME and we will all be outside running, biking and hiking . . . soon I hope

Everyone have a great DAY!!

http://www.linear-software.com/online.html is a website that has a couple different methods for estimating body fat percentage. I am pretty sure that it uses a very similar (if not the same) formula to what I eventually found by searching which is here http://www.wikihow.com/Measure-Body-Fat-Using-the-US-Navy-Method.

So apparently it comes from the US Navy, although I haven't cross-referenced it anywhere else to see. It seems to give pretty reasonable results although I'm sure that it's only accurate to within several percent or so.

The formula (for women) that I used was:

%Fat = 163.205*LOG(abdomen + hip - neck) - 97.684*LOG(height) - 78.387

Where abdomen = waist measurement, and then you use your hip and neck measurements plus your height. All need to be in the same units, but it doesn't matter if you use centimeters or inches.

The other methods on the calculator website all require skin fold measurements, which I don't have the equipment to do, or the experience to measure accurately. ;) I am going to try to find somewhere local that I can go to have my body fat % measured to compare to the results from the formula, to try to get a feel of how accurate it is for me.

Jen516

Jen516 - Did you think of a non-weight goal???

I did!!!! Yesterday, I officially signed up for a 5k in April. That's a goal. PLUS, I actually walked 5k around my neighborhood yesterday. So, that's a goal already met!

Another mini-goal done this week: I packed up BOXES of clothes that are too big now! (I have a TON of clothing. It's not only nice to get rid of the bigger stuff, but also nice to have more room in the closet!)

Kaebaka - Thanks for the links on the BF%. It's so hard to know! My scale says one thing, 44%. And has said the same thing for the last 40lb... I ordered calipers that say 33%. One of the links above gives me 33%. The formula above gives me 66% (I'm not taking that one... absolutely NOT!) And a different formula I found based on age and BMI gives me 43%. WTH????? :?:

kaebaka
02-24-2011, 08:47 PM
The formula above gives me 66% (I'm not taking that one... absolutely NOT!)

Woah. You're right, that sounds way too high. Did you use log base 10 or natural log? I'm not sure which one excel defaults to, but maybe if you try the other one you would get something closer to the probably more reasonable 40-ish range?

And a 5K - That's awesome! Is it a charity fundraiser type event? I've sort of started looking for one around here to sign up for, but I really want to increase my average speed before I sign up to do anything like that with hundreds of other people. :)

Jen516

Yep, I googled and found a ton in my area to choose from. Picked this one more because the date works than anything else, but it does benefit the River Parkway area near my house. I was concerned about the time too ;), but I did a practice run yesterday and compared my time to the list of finish times I found online. Now I know I won't be the last one in!

And the 66% came with a log base 10. A natural log yields a BF% of 250%!!! Oh well, I know I've eating well and not doing anything crazy, so I'll just not worry so much about the BF%. It'd be nice to track, especially now that I'm adding more exercise, but I'll live without it! :) I suppose if I just pick one method it will still show improvement over time even if it's not exactly right on, huh?

kaebaka
02-24-2011, 10:54 PM
 at 250% body fat. Yes, definitely not very likely! I agree that using one method and following that over time should probably be a reasonable way to track progress. Yay for not being the last one in! I'm sure that you'll push yourself hard and do awesomely, it sounds like a great personal challenge for this spring.

Hmm.... My measurements are all the same from last week except for thigh (-0.5) and waist (-0.25). So I will try to console myself with the idea that I lost some fat, but I must be retaining water or something... I never noticed water retention with TOM before when I was heavier, but I guess I never paid all that much attention to fluctuations as small as a couple pounds, either.

But I have been eating rather terribly this past week starting with my sister dragging me out for National Margarita Day on Tuesday. And then pie... and then cake... and then more cake... and then steak with appetizers and dessert yesterday... So. I will refocus starting today and not let my friends tempt me into eating so much higher than I would like to this week!

Had a pretty crappy week - think it was PMS realated... Super munchy all week and cranky too. Still, a pound is a pound! Plus I managed to walk 11.5 miles over the last week. That's more exercise miles in a week than all of 2010! I've been walking 2.5-3.5 miles every other day for the last two weeks, total of about 20miles. It's actually starting to feel like a habit - I sort of, almost crave it. strange! :D

Welcome back, foodmasochist! :)

I think my TOM upswing is on it's way out, so I am feeling a little less frustrated at the scale this morning. I had a wellness assessment on Monday with a personal trainer at school. She did two different body fat measurements. One was using a 3 site caliper method and the other was one of the hand held bioelectrical impedance devices.

The previous night's tape-measure method put my BF% at 41.8%. Her Bioelectrical Impedance method said 36.2%, and her caliper method said 27.6%. No way is my bulk that much muscle, so I can definitely discount the caliper method!

But then yesterday I was reading about the "Body Adiposity Index", which is supposed to be a much better correlation with actual body fat percentage and again only relies on having a tape measure to calculate.

For the curious: BAI = BF% = (Hip Measurement (in centimeters) / (Height [meters])^1.5) - 18.

So using that I got a value of 38.2%. So the BAI, the BIE method and the tape measure method are all 38.2 +/- 2ish percent. Three independent methods giving results that similar, I will go ahead and assume that for me at least, it's pretty accurate. Any of the rest of you feel like trying it out to compare? :)

I'll be off to the gym as soon as I can get my butt off the couch and eat a quick breakfast. I've been alternating days of doing 1+ hours of strength training with 45 minutes or more of cardio. I actually feel like I have some muscles in my arms now, rather than just noodles. This makes me very excited! :D As far as my spring running mini-goal.... not making so great of progress. ;) In addition to me still running way too slowly, we had about 4 - 6" of slush dumped on us overnight, so I won't be hitting the sidewalks or paths around here for many days.

Hi everyone!
So I had a really bad month and ended up, essentially, completely giving up on the weight loss. I'm going to get back into it now! Thankfully, I didn't gain back EVERYTHING, nor did I go above my starting weight (277.0).
Hopefully things will go more smoothly from this point on! On to the numbers:

New goal: 260 pounds (I figured I should lower it to account for the lost month...).

ugh, no change. :( But I am on my 3rd week of actually exercising... walking 2.5 - 3.5 miles every other day. Even jogged a bit today. Hopefully that's what's impacting the scale. My eating hasn't been perfect, but not terrible! People say the scale gets messed up as you start gaining muscle, but how much could I be gaining in 2-3weeks???

I guess I've heard that when you work your muscles hard (like you presumably are at the beginning of an exercise program) they will retain more water. So it could still be a lean mass (water) increase masking fat loss even if it takes much longer to gain even a pound of actual muscle tissue.

^^ Aahhh, that makes sense. I keep telling myself my body will just take time to adjust and who knows what kind of crazy measures it's taking under this strange new thing called exercise... But it makes sense about the water. I'm fighting the urge to stop exercising because it's messing up the scale... the point is the be healthy! I'm updating measurements in a couple of days, perhaps that will be more favorable. Thanks for the feedback!!

HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SPRING!!!

Well I am back up 1 pound to 164, UGH and OH NO . . . Ugh, Easter is 6 weeks away? I need to get refocused! I have been getting frustrated about my weight bouncing all over the place in the last month, but I guess this month has really been my first real "stall". In the grand scheme of things, I will remind myself this could be worse - I'm still down 3 pounds today from where I was this time last month, and even if that's not the same rate I had been losing at before, it's still down and that's the important thing. I will try to just focus on getting 100% back on plan eating wise... I've still been doing really well on exercise, but I've been eating more and more junk food the last few weeks, and as we all know that really helps keep the pounds from going away. Bad me! :)

I feel like I've gotten overly complacent recently with hitting my halfway to goal point, but I need to remember how much better losing even more weight will be! :kickbutt: You should all feel free to join me in kicking my butt if I don't get myself back on plan, too.

I didn't quite manage to get my spring activity goal done because the route I thought was 2 miles turned out to be 1.5... Oops. But I can do that in 20 minutes now, which is still an improvement for me. Time to keep working!

Hey ladies!

I'd love to join this thread :-) I'd like to be down to 160 point something by good friday. I've been doing well so far, last week's weigh-in I was up .2lbs but I sneaked a peek at the scale this morning and I'm down again, several lbs! Official WI is Sunday so we'll see how it goes.

Anyways, good luck ladies and have a great, OP day! :-)

Both weekends were definitely not on plan, as I was out of town and worried more about grieving and spending time with family than about whether I was South Beaching it. However, I'm back on track both with foods and exercise. Here's hoping I can pick up the pace!

I am restarting my weight loss as of today after an absence of focus of about 2 months. I think I had already posted on the Easter challenge but considering the break I have taken, I would like to reconsider my Easter goal to one that is still realistic at present. So, my Easter goal will be to get out of the 240s. :)

Well. Following this challenge has definitely led me to realize some of my body's particular weight loss patterns, which I think will really make me better able to handle future months without getting too frustrated.

TOM's on it's sloooow way out, and I ate a bunch of terrible salty food yesterday (movie theater popcorn, and lots of it. Yum! At least I only got a little butter? ) So I assume the down 0.5 per day for the last few days straight is mostly water weight clearing it's way out of here, but it's still nice to see.

I got a new bike Thursday afternoon and took it for a spin Friday morning. I went 14.5 miles in about 1.5 hours, and I didn't feel particularly tired when I got home. I then rode it to and from campus that afternoon, another 4.5 or so miles. I am really looking forward to using it to get around town more frequently so I can be more active all the time, not just when I'm at the gym.

I was thinking about going for a fun long bike ride again today, but we'll see if I make it out or not. My leg muscles are feeling fine, but. Man- my butt is SORE! :D

Lizz - what a helpful post! I too have lost most of my focus for most of the challenge - despite setting up the challenge. Twit.
I've been dreading seeing this thread, it was just screaming 'failure' at me, and making me cry.
Now I'm going to do what you've done and pick a 'from now' goal - and for me it's to get back into the 160s.
THANKYOU!

I was down to 187.5 a couple days ago, but the scale is back up a bit. I've been staying OP though so not worried about it. Getting lots and lots and lots of exercise though. :) Went for a 3 hour, 36 mile bike ride yesterday which the most conservative calorie calculator I could find estimated at ~1200 calories burned.

Two weeks to easter! I only need to drop a couple pounds to meet my technical goal, but they are being stubborn. I am feeling great though, because I have made so much off-scale progress throughout the challenge. :)

Well, we're done, I didn't meet my goal, I wanted to be about 150-155, but I'm not that far off either. I just want to thank Rosi and all the other for their support in this journey. I've been in the 160's waaaaaaaaaay tooooo long . . . so it's time to get my BUTT-ER in gear . . .

CONGRATULATIONS and Good Luck to EVERYONE !!
