Default Bloated up like a balloon

Ugh!!! I switched 2 days ago from eating very low carb for 9 months to regular foods (calorie counting, aiming for whole foods) and omg, I am bloated up like a balloon!! My jeans in 2 days have gone from fitting fine to TIGHT/muffintop (which I never have) and my midsection just feels sooo bloated. I hate it!!

Is it possible to get this bloated JUST from adding back healthy grains like oatmeal, whole grain breads, and healthy carbs like fruit? It is insane. I hope it goes away soon. I haven't weighed but I feel ten pounds heavier!

Wheat sensitivity can cause bloating and if it's been scarce in your diet for a while it might cause problems. Maybe try just the oatmeal and fruit and see if you have the same problems. Just an idea. . .

I'd have to find it, but I recently read an article on how diet affects the flora of the gut. It specifically dealt with how vegans' intestinal landscapes change, but there was also evidence that other more specialized diets likewise affect your "bugs."

If that's what's causing the bloat, it'll probably settle down fairly quickly as carb-loving bug-towns flourish in your intestines while the protein-loving ones deal with declining property values and a dwindling job market.

Edited to add: the more I read about gut flora, the more interesting the subject gets! Google is awesome.

I mainly eat low carbs, not way low but still low, and when I have a higher carb day by eating oatmeal, I feel very bloaty. In fact, last night I had 3/4 cup oatmeal for dinner because I felt hungry and had enough calories left to eat that much. My abdomen bloated so much it hurt.
