I have read in Zest magazine, and elsewhere that people in the UK measure there weight in stones, so my question is how many pounds is there to a stone? I've read everything from 13 lbs. to 20. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

There are 14 lbs in a stone, 7lb=half a stone, we are very fond of our stones/lbs and refuse to accept the kg/gr system or so it seems, does anyone here go to a class who use kg scales?? I used to but the leader used to convert it to stones /lbs for us.
happy to help VC.

Hi Tupperware queen!
Only one of our attendees (a Brazilian) wanted the weight converted to KG. She doesn't seem to atend now so we are all stones and pound girls (and soe guys too).
Oh and Velvetcyberpunk - it may sound weird weighing in stones and pounds to you but I am always scratching my head when Americans say they weigh so many pounds. It does my head in trying to convert it!

I get weighed at my local supermarket. The ticket shows stone/pounds and kg. Which I find useful as some weeks it looks like you've lost nothing according to the stones and pounds but according to the kg you have lost weight.

Thank you for your answer. I have always thought that when a British woman says she weighs 9 st. it just sounds so cool and exotic. I love the British, especially the hisotory! I will go to England one day! :love:
Current weight- 19st. 4lbs.
Goal weight- 8st. 5lbs.
To lose- 10st. 10lbs.

I love it we have converted one of someone to stones. Well done VC.
One person down the rest of the site to go. Would make it so much easier, rather than having to try and work out how much 231lbs is in real money
No one in my class does the metric stuff. No guys either !!!

I think this is right...when Bridget Jones came out on film she said
her weight in pounds which was so wrong the book was always
in stones pah :p

I loved Bridget Jones! I still haven't seen the movie yet. I so want to be a neurotic English girl smoking, and drinking chardonnay out of the bottle with my mates. *Sigh*

Oh of course I will Mysticvix! My great-grandfather was born on the ship moving his parents from Scotland to Nova Scotia! I'm mostly French and Native American, but I wear my red hair, milky white skin, and freckles proudly!

Ooh yes you must visit your "roots". My great Grandfather (who I never met) was originally from the Isle of Harris. My Grannie's ashes are scattered there. I so want to go oneday.....

Talking of exotic - cyberpunk - you sound just that!
Hope I am not offending you but when you mentioned red hair, scottish ancestors and Native American as well I thought of Tori Amos as she apparently has Scottish and Native American ancestors.

No! I'm not offended! I think Tori is gorgeous! Actually I have her coloring but I look more like Christina Ricci with just a dash of Angelina Jolie. I am often mistaken for Italian, Greek, and sometimes even Spanish. It took a while for me to appreciate my looks because in America if you don't look like Christy Brinkley, or now Brittney Spears you just aren't considered pretty (by many people). I do dye my hair because my auburn hair faded to mousey reddish-brown when I hit my teens. I will have to post a pic to show you all what I look like. LOL, if it doesn't frighten anyone.:eek:

We don't frighten easy - feel free to post a piccy we like to know who we are talking to. We used to have a picture thread.
All that from the woman who has never posted her photo on this site - need to do something about that myself.

Ok, here I am. What do you think? The picture looks kind of grainy because I took it on my web cam. Not too hideous, am I?
Not meaning to butt in, however if you are needing Kilograms/Stones/pounds measurements for any one ever again, then here are the answers
1 Kg = 2.20462lbs - 2.2 is near enough
1lb = 0.453592kg
6.3kg = 1 stone.
Hope it helps to confuse someone or anyone or even everyone!
PS: You look perfectly okay to me Velvet

No you look just fine. I cannot understand the need to look so "white bread" I love all the different ethnic mix looks. Of course, you are being very piggy and have got quite a bit of a mix yourself! No wonder there are so many Christie Brinkley types - that's all that was left!!!!

Thank you both! I like posting here. I agree with you Peacock (now anyway, lol!) When I was a silly teenager I thought to be pretty you had to look like one of those too blonde wasp girls. I mean I was a teenager in the 80's when Christy Brinkley was hot, and Princess Diana (Who I thought was lovely by the way)was considered a goddess, so my french and native american features just weren't what I wanted. I was lucky to have dated a boy whose Mother was from Scotland, and whose father was Italian. His mother was the most wonderful lady and she always told me I was beautiful because I did look so exotic. I am now proud of my features, or at least I like them a bit better, and thanks to Angelina Jolie, who is also French and Native American, and Christina Ricci , I think that look is becoming a more of a standard of beauty.
I mean really, there's room for every kind of look, right? I think Oprah is one of the most beautiful women in the world, and so is Jennifer Lopez, and Michelle Yeoh. And I'll bet you are all lovely as well, if you'd just post a piccy I'd be able to see for myself, hint-hint. LOL!

I am hopeless at this technology so it may take a while for me to post a pic.
When I was younger and wanting to look like film stars it was always the more "exotic looking ones". Elizabeth Taylor (when younger and slimmer) and Sophia Loren. I think she is gorgeous. Of course when punk came along I would have loved to look like Siouxsie Sioux. However, as long as I dye my roots I am happy!
