We're part of the way through the holiday season. Let's not be part of the statistics about how the average person gains 10-15 pounds during the holidays. Let's be LOSERS! :D

The rules of this thread are simple. We are here to provide each other some accountability along the path to weight loss. So, you just set your weight loss related goal(s) and it gets added to a goal list. When you reach your goal, it gets turned Red. We have a sister thread for exercise related goals: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/chicks-up-challenge/218494-december-exercise-challenge.html. We love to hear about your success, as well as your challenges throughout the month. We're here to support and encourage each other to be our best. So, let's get started!

I'm hoping to get to 175 by the end of the year. That will make me overweight, but no longer obese! 4 lbs should be doable, but with it being Christmas, who knows? I'm not going to get too upset if I don't manage it, but that's what I'm working towards!

I think December will be my Getting Back On Track month.

*Get back to at least 64 oz of water.
*Start keeping track of my food intake.
*Exercise?

Well after being off-plan for pretty much two weeks and up 1/2 lb, ....time to try, try again.
This month I am going for a more realistic 5 lb loss, which puts me lower than I have been in 5 years and two kiddos ago.

SW: 143.5
GW: 138.5

Good luck everyone!!:cheer:

I would like to join this challenge. I hope it's OK that I don't have a goal for lbs lost. I'm trying to focus on exercise and health vs weight loss. My goal for the month of December:

1. No sugary sodas.
2. 600 minutes of exercise
3. Stretching/lower back exercises EVERY night.

Thanks for allowing me to join this thread. I look forward to talking to everyone!

2. To log food and calories (with a few grace days)
3. Read one health/diet book (another repeat goal)

OK, I'm in for a small, attainable goal of 5lbs for the month of December. I work nights so weight loss is a bit of an extra challenge. Then, just to make the holiday season a bit more stressful we're moving the week between Christmas and New Years :dizzy:

Well, December has arrived! It seriously doesn't feel like a year has gone by since the last December rolled around. And soon it will be a new year!

The scale teetered between 171.8 and 172.4 this morning, but I know it's going to fluctuate up soon with TOM coming in about a week. I can't believe I'm so close 60 pounds lost.

Happy December ladies! I'm a little nervous about the start of the month. Today is my anniversary and we are going out to a fabulous restaurant. There's only 1 vegetarian meal on the menu and it really doesn't look that healthy. So we'll see how it goes. I'm only .6lbs away from losing 60lbs, hopefully I can change my avatar by the end of the week.

So far so good today...

Got the goal list posted and I logged my food and calories. I logged food EVERY day of November, but didn't log calories. I figured I have a fair iea from all the calorie couting I've done in the past, but I think it'll help me to be more mindful of my food. I looked in last years food log from January 2010 and I weighed anywhere from 134-129.something so it reminded me where I want to be and how I got there. I let things slide this summer and now I have to make the changes back to calorie counting. I know this will make the difference for me.

Like everyone else, I have challenges this month with birthdays, Christmas celebrations, and other get-togethers, so I'm taking one day at a time.

171.0 today. So I guess I can go ahead and change my ticker since I've been 171.something for four days now.

It feels so weird to be in unfamiliar numbers. For so long I'd been bouncing around in numbers I'd already seen.

I've been OP. Today is my weekly treat day, but really all that means is I'm going to let myself have a few dove chocolates tonight, and a pop tart for a snack. I'm thinking about trying to make mini pizzas on english muffins for dinner.

Alright, I was down to 145.6, down another .4 lbs this morning. Today was an off plan day, with a girl's day with my mom and a date night with hubby. Did very well at the meals (lunch=greek salad, supper=shrimp and veggies with rice), but had an ice cream cone after lunch and then snacks when we went to the movies after supper. I suspect I'll see an unpleasant bump up in my weight tomorrow, but I'll stay OP for the next few days. Tuesday it gets rough again, but true to my motto for the month...one day at a time!

Tis the season Girls! I am a bit late again this month but I have been busy with shopping. Although I admit a lot of it is for me! There are such deals right now and I have needed all new clothes since I weigh a lot less now than I did a year ago plus the new job. It has been rather thrilling. Anyway, my goal this month is to lose to reach 135. I was actually close to this before Thanksgiving but shot right back up after the holiday. It is so hard not to overeat! Good luck everyone.

Actually went DOWN to 145.2 this morning which thrilled me, but I'm wondering if it was dehydration or something 'cuz I was naughty with candy last night. Well, today was good, so we'll see. I didn't get formal exercise today, but stayed very busy and active nearly all day, so I'm exhausted! It was DS's birthday party, so I woke up and make him "healthified" biscuits and gravy followed by making the cupcakes/cake for his party and the family, then I was decorating, doing housework, and cooking most of the rest of the day. I will sleep well tonight!!

Well I changed diet plans on November 29, and even though I set my goal at 11lbs (reach 349lbs) I seem to be losing weight SO quickly, as at the start of any new plan. Alot of water weight has been coming off so I may need to adjust my goal. However I had an OP day today (The plan I'm on recommends one 'free' day per week to limit stalls) So I very well might gain tomorrow. See how I go.

Bobbi-I see you're already down to 128. Great job!

Focused Lani-That's excellent that you're seeing great results! Remember not to overdo it on your free day. It can be a good thing if you need to not feel deprived, but on the flip side, you don't want to undo good habits. Let me know if you do decide to change goals.

TERAPET-How was today? 1400 is quite a total for one meal, but I know what you mean. I could've easily done that on any given day before I changed my habits. In fact, I'll probably do it at my grandma's Christmas this weekend...but it's once a year, so I'm allowed. ;)

Today was good. I went over on calories as we had friends over and I made a special homemade lasagna and she brought some delicious Scandinavian cookies for dessert. I will be drinking lots of water tonight! Hope to see more posting this week....we've been a quiet bunch so far!

Here I am! Sorry to be late to the party. I am starting this month off horribly, with birthday celebrations, two Christmas parties, a wedding out of town, and a road trip. I started out on the 1st at 149.2, and yesterday before driving out of town to the wedding I weighed 151.2! Granted it was way way earlier than my regular weigh-in time, but I have not been tracking my food at all, and I am eating and drinking like I don't need to worry about it. I didn't get my regular exercise in either, so I'm terrified at what the scales may tell me in the morning.

I think my goal for December is going to be to reach 147, although I really just feel like I want to get back below 150 and stay there. Man alive, my will power is being so elusive--I am so impressed with those of you losing right now!

Today was a bit of a struggle. All I wanted to do was eat, eat, eat. Fortunately I was able to control myself for the most part and stayed within my calories. I still had a lot more carbs than I would have preferred, but that seemed to be what I was craving most. I can tell TOM is coming any day now. Which would also explain the small jump on the scale this morning.

Good to see you here LouisaH!

Kinda feel bad tonight. I did well during all day and then ate 1400 calories at dinner time! Ugh. This is how I used to eat all the time. I cannot go back to that. Oh well, it was just one day right? Back on the horse tomorrow.

I eat more at dinner and after as well. You're right though, back on the horse!

the end of last week the scale said 125.6- I'm not counting that as a loss yet... TOM came today and the scale says 126.6, so I will wait until TOM leaves me alone and then see if 125.6 has stuck, or hopefully moved a tad lower :) As for the activity end of it, I'd say I've definitely picked it up some, but I won't be doing too much for a few days, that's for sure :( TOM is a very painful friend for me (TMI, I know, but only since the birth of my fourth child has it been this way)

Crystallx4, I know where you are coming from. I had SO much pain during that TOM. When I was 30, I had to have a hysterectomy due to some issues. So that pain is gone:-) My 16yo daughter is now going through all this. I feel so bad for her.

Okay, so the scales were crabby this morning, reading 151.8. That's up way too much from the 148.4 I saw for ten seconds last month. I was sooo close to my goal, and if I can just wade in that pool for the month of December, I'll be very happy.

If I could subsist on baked goodies for the month of December, I would be very happy, too. Alas, they aren't filling enough and only make me want more. Somehow, this doesn't make me want to stop trying...

I've been missing for a couple days, not on the computer much during the weekend. My weight is up a bit because TOM finally showed up, I was almost a week late.

Have a great night ladies!

Thanks for all the encouragement girls. I finally did better today although yesterday was not so great. Part of the problem has been going out to eat but it is really mostly I am just not being disciplined about what I am eating. I have some favorites that are just plain high in calories-like eating wheat thins and drinking wine before dinner-very, very bad idea. I used to do that a lot but I never do anymore except for the other day when I ended up eating 1400 calories for dinner. :dizzy: I think the most helpful thing I can do for myself is to stay away from the wine for awhile. Going ten days without sweets last month really helped me to gain control in that area but I am not willing to commit to ten days with out wine! That would include a weekend!

I am sorry I don't have time for personal comments tonight but I am really going to try to get on more this week. I know that is part of my problem too.

Aaaargh! I have been going round and round the same 3 pounds for about a month and it's driving me crazy! I have upped my exercise and am mostly sticking to plan, but I just can't get moving again.

I guess that's the problem - mostly. It's not like I'm going over by eating a whole chocolate cake every couple of days or anything, but it's the odd, unaccounted for calories here and there that creep in from portions that are too big etc. I guess a calorie is a calorie whether it's from a gateaux or a carrot...

If I search in my heart I know that if I want to get going I'm going to have to plan and stick to every day absolutely religiously, not a calorie more, but it is just soooo disheartening.

I've gone from doing little or next-to-no exercise to doing more than 45 mins every day and have managed to lose only 9lbs since middle of September. On paper that doesn't sound so bad, but I haven't had the big dramatic weightloss at the start that most people get and I have got a fair bit to lose (59lbs total). Plus, because of going up and down over the same 3lbs, I've only lost 1lb since the start of November.

Sorry for the rant, I'm just getting sooooo frustrated, and I feel like crying. And my husband is wonderful but he doesn't understand as he's never had to lose weight in his life.

Gah.

Hang in there Shoeless. Sometimes this weight loss business gets pretty frustarating. The key is to stick with it. Have you tried a food log to track your calories? I record everything I eat, good and bad. I can tell if I am working on a gain or a loss based on my totals during the week. Of course, exercise helps a lot, but for me, what I eat is the most important factor for losing weight.

I'm really struggling.

I have this unshakable feeling that I did really awful yesterday, but I was still within my calories. :?: I guess I felt like I had to make up for the little bit I went over on Monday. Which doesn't make sense because I consider myself OP even if I go over my calories by a couple hundred as long as I log everything and am under maintenance. I'm also up to 173 this morning. And I want to EAT. Which I know won't help a darned thing. But I still want to.

Why is it even though I know this is all just TOM messing with me and I should ignore it, it still bothers me? :(

TheBunneh, I understand completely how you feel. Stay strong and focused, and try not to get too discouraged and beat yourself up mentally. I was wondering why I was all kinds of unmotivated lately (pushing me to dread my workouts instead of being my usual enthusiastic self). I also had been going over my calorie counts for the last three days. The realiation came to about the cause of it all yesterday. My TOM came a whole week early this month. I wasn't expecting it until next week, and it showed up yesterday unexpectedly. The only thing I can think of is to try to stay focused and on track as best as possible with my food and fitness. Good Luck to you as well.

I've been MIA because I've been binging -again - and the scales show it. I weighed 238.6 this morning :fr:

I've come to the decision to pretty much cancel all baking for Christmas. It will be maybe only the 2nd time in my life that I have done that. But the fact is - I'm addicted to sweets and just can't have them around me right now.

So any way, my December goals were to check in daily - I'm going to start doing it as of today.

And reach 225 by New Year's Eve. That's probably doable if I will recommit and stay OP. I probably have a sugar withdrawal headache waiting for me within the next couple of days.

Hope your day is a good one :)

Well it's day 2 of being stuck in bed because I strained a muscle in my back, this is so depressing. My DH got me this sweet new gym bag that I've been gushing over and now another day goes by that I can't even use it. This is just the worst. Back down to 147.6 today, which is exactly where I was a week ago. I'm having so many issues with my calories since I'm so close to my goal weight. I don't know if I should increase or decrease. I really want to make goal by the end of the year but I'm just not sure it's going to happen.

I'm feeling a little better now. I -really- didn't want to work out today. I came very very close to making it a rest day. But at the last minute I thought "NO! At least try to workout and earn a restful evening after." So I made a super strong pot of coffee. Then I did Turbo Fire 45 EZ (it certainly isn't "ez" in my opinion :dizzy:) and really pushed it.

Out of curiosity I weighed myself after my shower and was 171.8 and I feel a lot less bloated, so I'm guessing I sweated off some of the water retention. And my husband bought me dance dance revolution! It came today and I'm so excited. I've wanted a DDR game since I was 14 and played the arcade version with some friends. So that should help me burn a few more extra calories tonight. :D

I know I'm still going to need to be extra focused this week, but I'm less distressed about it. I'm SO glad I made myself workout!

Hey Chicklets, I've been sort of waiting out the disappearance of the extra pounds I put on over the weekend. I'm finally back to 149.8 this morning--under 150 is the goal for the entirety of December.

TheBunneh: good for you for making yourself do the exercise--that initial push is all it takes, and it can be so hard! I have been having a really tough time with just wanting to EAT all the time, and it's spanning the whole month so I can't even blame TOM.

Hopeful8: sorry for your back trouble--I have back issues too, and know how bad that sucks. I wouldn't worry about your calories right now. I'm really close to goal too, and aside from the weight coming off more slowly, I am having trouble sticking to plan. I'm just going to do my best at sticking with my weight loss calories and attempt to maintain for the month. Then I will make the new year about getting to goal and figuring out my maintenance plan. Don't torture yourself--heal your back so you can keep up some healthy exercise, and remember that there is no race to get to goal. We have the rest of our lives to keep working on it!

Bobbolink: Excellent job! Will you start working on my four calories now?

ja2ma6lee: Welcome and good luck! Check in often.

susiemartin: Don't stop checking in--you know it helps you be good! Glad you made it back before it was too late. If we just get through these holidays, we can be back in action and sugar free in the new year. But don't stop coming back here no matter what!

Sorry not to get to everyone--I gotta wrap up and get to bed. Keep up the good work!

TERAPET - thanks for the support. Have decided just to build a great big ladder and get over myself :) - think TOM was not just making me stall but also be a misery. Have cracked the whip on logging and 45 mins/day exercise, and am back on track, and this a.m. down to 189 again. hurrah!

TheBunneh - amazed at your workout willpower! My mantra is 'you never regret a workout' and so far I never have. Didn't work this morning though when the bed was soooo cosy and our heating had broken! :halffull:

JasonsLea - a workout partner? How cool! I need to get me one of those :coach: ;)

Had a set back in my food plan since late last night. I ate three cookies last night that were not on my plan for the day (putting my over my calorie limit by 260 calories)...then, to make matters worse, I gave into chocolate again this morning with a 3 musketeers bar. Not over my calorie count for the day as of yet, but I don't like that I've become so week in the past 16 hours. I have realised my mistakes, and have already devised a new food and fitness plan for the day to get back on track with this weeks' plan. Wish me luck, and hopefully I'll have better will power and more common sense than to sabotage myself further.

LouisaH and shoeless - Thanks. It goes to show that when I remove "can't" from my thinking and resolve to just do my best, I almost always surpass my expectations for myself. It often really is just about switching my internal dialogue to something positive. I need to remember that more often.

Demona - Don't let the little slip up derail you. It happens from time to time. Just get right back on track. I know you can do it!

TOM finally arrived, so hopefully things will get easier as the week wears on, and then back to normal. I was expecting my water weight to be back this morning, but surprise I was 170.8! I apologize for the length of this but after looking at the fantastic weight loss of some of you, I just had to ask what your secret was!
Good Morning!
Thanks for the congrats on my quick weight loss and meeting my goal. I still have a couple of pounds to go before getting back to 125 but I’ll work on that after Christmas. You all know how hard it is around Christmas time, the goodies, the parties. Hopefully you’ll all have another challenge set up after Christmas where we can work for our name in RED again. I’ve actually been maintaining for the last year and this summer/fall those extra 7 pounds starting creeping back on due to bad food choices and not counting calories. I’m one of those people that will always and forever have to watch what I eat. I think maintaining is harder than actually taking it off.
Crystal…congrats to you on the 78 pound loss, have you lost this since Feb 2010? What advice can you give the beginner? I think all you that have lost a considerable amount of weight can help others with something that has worked for you.
Demona…Cookies and Musketeer bars…….I’ve been baking cookies the last couple of days for the holidays. Yesterday I purchased 3 Christmas tins at the dollar store, I filled them with cookies and a check for the mailman, newspaper carried and the shopper. I had to keep the cookies in the freezer so I wouldn’t munch on them. Out of sight, out of mind….Right? Anyway, my hubby loves snicker candy bars so I keep a jar of the mini bars just for him, but I cut the nutritional label off the bag and tape it to the side of the glass jar I keep the candy bars in. If I get tempted, I just look at the whopping calories in them and change my mind very fast. Try it, it works. Think to yourself, I’ve kept track of my food, exercised, gone without and been very good, why sabotage myself? I’ve worked too hard to go backwards.
Perception…Thank you so much for starting this thread, checking in daily without fail works for me and this group is very friendly. What’s the best tip you can give after losing 54 pounds, what tool did you use to keep you On Program? Are you a calorie counter or on some program like Weight Watchers, etc?
Brunneh, are you Olivia? You also have lost quite a bit, 59 pounds and getting close to goal. What was your strategy that kept the scale going down? Any one thing?
Louisa…Another big loser, 65 down and only 4 to go. You’re probably finding it hard to lose those last few pounds, at this stage plateaus are common. One time I went 13 days of never, ever cheating and the scale wouldn’t budge. Times like that make you want to throw in the towel but persistence pays off in the end. I think I finally upped my calories for a couple of days, then went back to my 1200 calorie plan and got over that terrible plateaus. I couldn’t lose weight if I went over 1200 calories plus I hate to exercise. The most I do is hand weights plus 2 nights a week “Bone Builders” class.
Shoeless…Is one stone 9 pounds? Checking in here everyday and staying accountable is a good start. I see you’re calories counting too. I think I’ve tried every diet on the market and I always go back to good old fashion calorie counting, it works for me. Calorie in, calorie out. Eat less than you burn and you can’t help but lose.
My best dieting aid is Fiber. Most adults don’t get enough fiber in daily, 25-30 grams are the norm. I’m a creature of habit and simplicity, my breakfast is always the same, Fiber One cereal, 6 oz. homemade yogurt and a fruit. We live out in the country on an acreage and have many fruit trees. In the fall I cook up all the apples and freeze, then thaw and use in cooking. One thing I keep on hand is applesauce cooked up with some cinnamon, Stevia and raisins which I top my cereal and yogurt with. When pears and peaches are in season I use those on my cereal, or bananas year around. For lunches I make up meatless vegetable soups, I like to eat light so I can indulge in 4 oz. or more meat at supper time. You can eat a ton of vegetable soups and not pile on the calories. I found a trick that makes the best soups, roast all the veggies in the oven first with a drizzle of olive oil, salt and pepper. I like cubed butternut squash, onion, carrots as a base. Then add your chicken or beef broth and seasonings. Sometimes I throw in a bag of frozen California Mix veggies. If you want to make a good creamy soup, cook up a bag of frozen cauliflower in a separate saucepan with a little broth, whiz this up in a blender or food processor after cooked and add to your soup.
Now that I’ve written a book, time to get my roast browned and in the crock pot for tonight’s supper.
Have a skinny Day!

Bunneh, are you Olivia? You also have lost quite a bit, 59 pounds and getting close to goal. What was your strategy that kept the scale going down? Any one thing?

Yes, I'm Olivia. =)

My strategy is pretty simple, I just count my calories and exercise 5 days a week. Though, as most things do, it gets a little more complicated than that.

I lost the first 50 pounds pretty easily and quickly. I was losing steadily about a pound a week, sometimes more and once in a while I'd have a no-loss week. Then after about 2 years something happened and I just couldn't get back on track. It took me a year to get these last 9 pounds off, because I kept inching forward and shooting back. What I finally realized is I had started putting too much pressure on myself. I'd eliminated my weekly treat day and started to feel bad for eating all of my alloted calories. I was setting time limits for my goals and got discouraged and panicked when I didn't make them. Instead of pacing myself like before I started to feel like I needed to sprint to goal, and then got angry with myself when it was too much to sustain. But if I had stayed with the slow and steady loss I'd be at goal by now!

So now I've figured out what was working so well in the beginning of my weight loss and have gone back to a more basic slower paced plan, and things have gotten steady again. Being on plan is a part of life again (I've made a goal to be OP for a whole year straight) and I am committed to it. I make smaller weight goals for myself, just about three pounds a month, and focus more on fitness and nutritional goals. So I guess my motto is slow and steady wins the race.

I also agree with you on fiber. My daily goal is 30 grams.

Well, now I think I have written a book to go along with your's. :dizzy: I hope I answered your question. I can be pretty wordy at times, and still miss the point I meant to make.

Hi Ladies!
Just a quick check in. I'm back down to ticker, initial TOM bloat gone. I would probably be less than that but we went to Whole Foods last night and they had a tasting of their holiday menu and we got some food off their bar too. I didn't really do that bad but I may have been over my calories a little bit.

Congrats Bobbolink on meeting goal!!

I'm down 2 lbs. I want to wait till tomorrow before changing anything in my profile. My goal was 160 by friday. I think it was a little aggressive, but I have been detoxing the past 4 days and was really hoping for something big. I'm not going to be disappointed if I miss it. I am stoked I stuck with the diet for the 4 days. Moving into the next phase and starting to plan my meals for the next 4 days.

Hi

I'd like to set a goal of 8lbs this month... anywhere less that 272 would make me happy.

Okay so I weighed in this morning (my official weigh-in day) at 279.2.
I am 7.3 to my goal. I actually went up this week. Oh well. Scales don't always cooperate.

171.6 again today. Not fantastic, but still not bad. I have plenty of time left to get to 169.

I've been doing pretty good. I had pizza for dinner last night (papa murphy's thin crust, with chicken and pineapple), but was still completely within my calories for the day. I think the sodium is affecting me today though, uhg. I feel really bloated. But my pizza craving is totally satiated at least.

Good Afternoon Girls,

I am on here looking for some motivation to get through the day. Always plenty of that here thank goodness. I have done little to nothing to get to my goal this month. I am planning to do some holiday baking today which I am sure will not help matters. Soon though I may go on another 10 day sugar fast to get ready for Christmas. It sure worked for me last month although Thanksgiving is basically a one day temptation but Christmas is like trouble for the whole month of December. Yikes. Well, before we know it will be January and time for New Years resolutions. That will be helpful.

I've been feeling discouraged, and I don't really know why. I've been doing well OP. I've stayed at 171.6 for several days, which is good with TOM. And I have to remember that a maintain is not almost as bad as a gain.

I also started crying last night for no reason. Like really sobbing. And when my husband asked what was wrong I couldn't answer him because I had no idea. Maybe it's just hormones getting me down?

I do have a couple NSV's though, so I need to focus on that and ignore how the scale makes me feel.

I had to buy a size smaller pack of underwear.
I tried on several size 12 jeans and they fit! (And I bought a pair! ^^)
I bought some winter tops cause everything I already owned was too big, and they are all in size small. =D
(Though I still think I would call them mediums.)

Hey Chicklets, hope everyone had a great weekend. I had a great weekend, but the diet had a horrible weekend. I'm back up to 151.8. I'm beginning to think I should change my goal for the month to just making it back to my ticker weight. I am enjoying everything I am eating and drinking, am not going to beat myself up for that. Thank goodness I can spend a few days during the week trying to undue the damage I'm inflicting on my diet over the weekend. Unfortunately, I'm having some hip and knee pain, which is making it difficult to burn extra calories to make up for the naughtiness...

Hang in there everyone, we're doing great!

Amen to that!!

Hello ladies. Sorry I have been away for a couple of days... Have been visiting my sister in Brighton (southern coast of UK for the US folks here!) and she is having a REALLY tough time.

I know that one can find excuses for everything, genuinely, but this weekend, what with her birthday (Thurs) and the prospect of her breaking up with the guy she's been living with for 3 years (who, incidentally, daily treats her like crap).... I didn't think it was the best time to be saying 'oh sorry I can't join you in that bottle of wine I'm counting cals'! :(

Anyway, with that in mind I'm not expecting much tomorrow (ticker day) in fact up a few pounds wouldn't be a huge surprise, but there are some things you do for you for your family I guess... so here's a warning to the check in tomorrow, but honestly I haven't given up and disappeared, I'm just taking a TO... X

LouisaH-This is a hard time of year to diet. I keep going up and down in the same three pound range. Like you said, at least the food is good.

missy-Watch out for those baked goodies! I was going to bake last weekend but decided to put it off another week since I know I can't control myself around home baked cookies. I still have leftover homemade pumpkin bars, pumpkin pie, pecan pie and cupcakes in my freezer from Thanksgiving! TheBunneh - AWESOME!! Well done!! Also, pizza... mmmm. I don't often fancy pizza, but every so now and again... nom. :)

slimlizzie2 - I know how annoying it is even fleetingly to see the lower number! You'll see it again soon though - it's probably just a blip! :) Do you weigh everyday? I find that I feel more in control if I weigh everyday. I know about my fluctuations and I find it really interesting discovering what changes the numbers on the scale! I have only 1 'official' weigh in day, though - Tuesday. That's when I enter my weight on my list and update my ticker. :)

susiemartin - I know what you mean about food challenges - I have my agent's Christmas party tonight and there's going to be fizz and canapes... i've been finding recently though that I can draw strength every time I make a good choice. I sometimes wallow (had an evening last week where we went out with friends, and I spent most of the evening thinking 'I hate that I can't have a drink and dinner like everyone else!') but if I put myself in the right frame of mind I can make myself be really positive about being in control, and choosing to change my life. I hope that doesn't sound too patronising!! I didn't mean it to be. :)

The holidays are tough aren't they!? I'm cooking Christmas dinner for my family this year and I made the mistake of checking the cals on the back of the Christmas pudding I bought... oops. Ah well, forewarned is forearmed, right!?

Everyone seems to be doing awesomely though, despite the holiday mayhem... keep up the great work!!

Woo, where are the days going? Is anyone else feeling like we're in a time warp?

Demona: super news about reaching Onederland, congratulations! That's a great present for the holidays, eh?

Bobbi: you're holding nice and steady keeping those four pounds off--good for you? I still can't fathom eating as few calories as you do--are you 4'2" and completely sedentary? ;) I seem to have trouble eating only 1500 calories on a good day, so I MUST exercise daily if I'm to lose any weight.

shoeless: don't worry, that will be gone really soon. If you were down two after being away and not being completely on plan, it's definitely moving downward.

missymckibben: Yay for you! Tracking everything you put in your mouth is such a great tool--especially over the holidays when all those little treats add up. My only problem is that now I track after the fact rather than before I put anything in my mouth, like I did when I first started.

TheBunneh: Yippee for making your goal, and for the smaller clothes size. That's the best motivation for me. Now I need to get something slightly smaller so I can have that goal outfit to help motivate me to lose these last few pounds. Although, I am seeing some shifting and toning happening--my saggy belly is the last thing to go.

I'm down to 150.8 today, and hope to lose another pound before the weekend, which is another party-filled challenge that I'm going to be terrible at overcoming and showing any restraint. This is maintenance, I guess. I think I see what the rest of my life looks like...

Hi Ladies!

Weight went down a .8 on Monday then up a little yesterday and back down today despite my birthday dinner last night. I am pretty excited that I didn't gain for my b-day meal. We went to Chilis and I got steak, veges, and mashed potatoes. I ate less than half of my steak and half of my potatoes. But I did eat chips and salsa and the four of us shared a brownie sundae. Its amazing that the brownie sundae has over 1200 calories, good thing I didn't eat it all my self.
I have got to do excellent today because tomorrow is our 15th anniversary and I'm not sure what we'll be doing. We are supposed to get an ice storm so it looks like we might have to stay home and make a nice dinner. But DH is off tomorrow, friday, and the weekend and I sometimes have a hard time being good when he's home. The main problem is that I just want to spend my time with him and don't want to cook so we end up eating quick or out to eat foods.

Bunneh Congrats on goal! That is great!

This is great, because I usually feel like I am depriving myself and that makes me miserable but honestly in tonight's outfit I felt like a million dollars, and just thinking about that while I was out made it really easy to say no when people offered me drinks etc.

Plus I had one of those moments today where I needed to decide what to wear to the party and nothing fit properly - all too baggy. Made me so chuffed on the one hand that it's working and on the other soooo frustrating because I had to go out!! Found sth hot in the end though. :o

Hope you ladies are all well!

Louisa - thanks for the encouragement! that's pretty much what I figure, it'll come back off soon enough. :)

Demona - your attitude is so great! And I totally agree, three cheers for positive progress, in whatever form it shows itself!! :D

ruth - happy anniversary to you for tomorrow. Hope you have a lovely dinner whether you're in or out! :hat: :hun:

LouisaH, I hear ya on the time warp thing! For example, I did not realize I hadn't been on here in a week. Holy cow! Where does the time go!?!

Bobbi-Sorry for the delay in responding to your questions. I did a few things during my initial weight loss. I did the first bit on my own, just instinctively eating less and moving more. Then I rewarded myself by joinging Weight Watchers which helped keep me accountable and motivated to be consistant. I hit a standstill and decided to stop tracking points and go back to eating instinctively, all the while increasing activity. Then I ended up couting calories. I continued to do this until I reached goal, but I remained active at Weight Watchers and am now "lifetime member". That was last January (2010). We moved the end of that month and my weight crept up. I got it back under control in April, but then went on a cruise in June and it has been up since. So, now I have 16 pound to relose AGAIN. Calorie counting and consistent exercise are my keys to success...I just fail to do them sometimes!

Well, lots has been going on since last week. Went to IL for a family Christmas...indulged and went up a few pounds, but they're gone now. So far this week I've done okay, but the sweet tooth has plagued me. My quick fix is a few semi-sweet chocolate chips. I get the sweet taste without going overboard.
Also, I got a call yeterday to come in for an interview tomorrow. This would be my first job since I stopped working to be a full-time mom 7 years ago. I'm a little unsure how it will go, but I'm good with however it turns out. If I'm meant to work there, the good Lord will make it happen. I was a little surprised to get an interview in the first place. It's part-time and they said the hours could be flexible. I guess my main priority is that it doesn't interfer with family time, so we'll see exactly how many hours they want and all that good stuff tomorrow. Now the really hard part...picking out my outift for the interview!!!

Gab section: MS Percept...We've all lost only to gain it back, at least you got back on the wagon before it all came back...good for you. I like counting calories the best because I can't possible gain if I keep at 1200 or less calories, no matter what I eat. I have already planned on eating whatever I want for our next two Christmas parties. The trick is to go right back to counting calories the next day. I think eating the chocolate chips is a good tip, especially if you measure them out and then only put one in your mouth at a time and having this rule, no chewing! It has to melt in your mouth, they would take a long time to eat that way. I've done that very thing before, it works great!
Congrats Bunneh on reaching your goal, congrats to Crystal too!
I like weighing daily too, keeps me on track.

slimlizzie2 - I know how annoying it is even fleetingly to see the lower number! You'll see it again soon though - it's probably just a blip! Do you weigh everyday? I find that I feel more in control if I weigh everyday. I know about my fluctuations and I find it really interesting discovering what changes the numbers on the scale! I have only 1 'official' weigh in day, though - Tuesday. That's when I enter my weight on my list and update my ticker.

I also feel more in control weighing everyday..and yes so far it was just a blip! My weigh day is Sunday ..with the Holidays it is hard to keep on track

Bobbi-I used to have that rule with peanut M&Ms. I would never chew them until I got to the peanut. I still do that most times because it does slow me down and allows me to enjoy it more. Yum!

Well, I got to my low weight for the month today 144.4. We're eating out tonight and I don't even know where, so we'll see how that goes. Otherwise I have holiday "events" sprinkled throughout next week to keep me on my toes, not to mention holiday baking this weekend. I do cookie plates for the kids' teachers, the school office (DH works there) and the mailman and stuff. Anyway, my December goal is still within reach as of today...so here's to self- and portion-control!! LOL
I'm off to that interview. By the way, picking out the outfit was harder than I thought! Apparently, I had cleaned out all my "bigger" clothes when I got down to goal and so I don't look real hot in many of my work-place appropriate dress clothes. More incentive to get these last pounds back off. It was a real eye opener last night!!

LouisaH
12-18-2010, 12:01 PM
MsP: How'd the interview go? Sorry about the work clothes being harder that it should have been--that is good motivation.

I shopped yesterday and actually fit in a size 6 pair of pants (what?) They were definitely too small, but size 8 is pretty exciting! I have a couple of tops that feel just a bit too tight--not how I'm used to wearing my clothes--so that's my motivation to get the last of this off (it's not working yet...).

I'm just happy knowing that I am eating so much healthier, and consciously, with intention, throughout this holiday season, so I won't get out of control. That will make it so much easier to get back to biz in January, and I'm proud of all of us for being here to stay accountable and support one another. Go us!

I went to a party on Thursday night and ate creamy pastas. There were three types, and a big Italian style salad with cheese and fairly heavily dressed. I was hungry and ate too much. I've also had a really bad visit from Tom this week, so I'm feeling bloated and laden. I'm at 150.8 this morning, and have two parties tonight. The first one is at someone's house who has lost weight and gotten healthy, so hopefully there will be some good food choices. The second one is with foodies, and that could be a big disaster. Plus, just add alcohol and my will-power goes out the window. Wish me luck!

Ms Perception

The interview went well, but they were honest with me and let me know they had 3 other people come in for interviews already and that it was going to be a really difficult decision. So, either it was their way of blowing me off (..though I doubt it since they kept there for an hour and a half chit chatting with me) or they really did have some other good candidates. Anyway, it's more hours than I was planning but the pay is good. Either way, it was an excellent reminder to get it together on the weightloss front! :)

We ended u having pizza last night, but kept it reasonable and kept my weight exactly the same this morning, so I'm pretty ahppy with that. Oh crap, I just realized I need to get in some exercise. Catch you all later. Love to hear what everyone's holiday plans are and strategies for success. Have a healthy weekend!!

Hi Everyone,

It has been a busy week. I hoped to be here more often but the additional duties for the holidays is pretty much eating up my time. Speaking of eating up, I had a terrible week. I so hope I am over it. I just could not stop thinking about food and I kept buying things and putting it away for later. So of course in a moment of weakness, I ate a bunch of it! Actually more than one moment. Ugh. I am pretty unhappy with myself. I think I might know why I am doing it though. I miss my old way of eating-especially now. I want overeat and overdrink and there are so many goodies out there and it is Christmas for gosh sakes! However, I don't want the scale to move up. Which it has of course. Oh well. I ate relatively low calorie yesterday (easy since I stuffed myself on Friday night) and I feel a bit more in control today. I have decided not to make cookies this year because I just know I will eat way too many and definitely gain more weight. I bought a pair of jeans last night on sale but they did not have my size so I had to buy a size smaller. I can wear them but they are tight! I think I will keep them as an incentive to not overeat.

LouisaH-I am impressed how you can eat such pretty awesome food and stay slim. Is it portion control? Do you save calories for special events? Do you burn a lot of calories working or exercising so you can eat more? Hope you don't mind me asking.

Well chicklets it's been forever since I checked in. I had to take a short notice trip to Italy for work. I've been so freaked out, two very long plane trips, fabulous Italian food, and no scales :yikes: I got back 2 days ago and I'm happy to report that this morning I cleared a huge hurdle in my weight loss. I broke the 60lb loss marker :carrot: I've been hovering between a loss of 55-58lbs for the last several months and I no longer have to stress about that.

I won't get to my December weight loss but I don't even care. I'm just so happy that I was able to control myself while in Italy, move past a very large weight loss hurdle, and finally after all these months I get to change the chick in my avatar!

Hopefully everyone is getting ready for a wonderful holiday with all of your loved ones. Have a wonderful day!

I had a horrible weekend visiting my parents. It started friday at my work christmas party where I indulged in too much sugar. I went home after work with a stomach ache and slept till 11 then picked my bf up at the train station. I ended up having soup and crackers when we got back. Then Saturday I wanted an iced tea from D&D which came with a free donut that I obviously didn't pass up. I hate their bagels so we stopped at the bagel place down the road where I got a honey wheat bagel with butter. My family christmas party started at 4 (which in my head meant dinner was at 4). I didn't read the small print and dinner was at 6. I was running around in the morning looking at condo's to buy with my friend and didn't have lunch so I picked on junk food till dinner was served. Needless to say, I still was suffering from a pretty bad stomach ache. Sunday I had a sensible breakfast (except for the chocolate donut) and then a christmas lunch at my gf's. That would of been fine except for the chocolate cake for dessert. I slept most of Sunday cause my stomach felt bad and I was also feeling depressed. :( Before I left my parents, my mom commented "That coat doesn't really do anything for you." Since I slept through dinner I decided to top the weekend off with BK for dinner.

I stepped on the scale this morning and it is starting to creep back up. I think its that TOM so I'm pretty depressed and really wanna just spend the rest of the week in bed till christmas. Unfortunately, I'll be going back out to my parents for the holidays.

LouisaH

Happy Monday? Aha ha ha ha. Those two parties on Saturday kicked my butt. The first one, with the person who I thought had a grasp on healthy food had nothing healthy to eat at all! Not a vegetable to be found, except olives, and whatever was on the three-foot sub sandwiches. I did okay there, but was hungry when we left and ate too much fabulous cheese and yummy not-low-cal stuff at the next party. I've been at 153.2 for the past two days, way higher than I want to be. But I've done well the past two days, so I'm hoping it comes back down soon.

TOM has been here a week and I am OVER IT. WTF? Get the **** out.

TERAPET: I am totally with you on the desire to just eat and drink and enjoy the holidays. I balance the pretty awesome food I eat with lots of fresh vegetables in large portions and small portions of the high cal stuff. I am a Slow Foodie, and hate diet food, so I choose to enjoy the real stuff, which I find far more satisfying in smaller quantities. For instance, if there is a bowl of peanut M&Ms, I could eat the whole thing and never get my fill, but if I get high end stuff that is rich and super delicious, a little bit will satisfy me. I also exercise like a madwoman to make up for the calories.

Hopeful8: Yay! I love Italy. I go every couple of years and find that I always lose weight when I'm there because we walk everywhere. Congratulations on 60 pounds--what an awesome accomplishment, and a great present to yourself!

MsP: When do you find out about the job?

Hope you all have gotten the shopping done so you can have a relaxing, no stress holiday. Remember that stress is often a trigger to emotional eating. Drink a big glass of water before approaching any food tables. If you aren't peeing every half hour, you aren't drinking enough water, I always say. lol.

LouisaH-I should find out about the job today or tomorrow. For some reason this morning I had a mini panic moment thinking, "Do I really want this job? I like my life the way it is now." We'll see.

I've been so-so with food. Yesterday was my Christmas party at bowling which was a potluck. I ate a few plates worth, but nothing horrible...just tastes of everything. I ended up eating very little the rest of the day, so it the scale showed just a small blip up this morning.
My biggest challenge will, of course, be this weekend. 1 full day with my parents, 1 full day with just DH, me and the kids and then 1 day with the in-laws. My parents' is probably the hardest since my mom loves to go overboard at the holidays with treats, snacks, etc. The plan is to just keep my head on straight and then try like mad to get a few pounds off next week. TOM is here as well, so I'm just riding out the usual hunger and cravings with that also. Despite the challenges, I'm SUPER excited for the time with family and all. I'm cleaning the house today so I can RELAX and enjoy the rest of this week. I feel like I've been way too busy for my liking the last week or so. I'm basically done baking and wrapping, so now once the house is clean I can sit back and take in all the wonderful family time!
I'm off to vacuum...

Well, I wanted to lose 1 to 2 pounds this month and for the last few days I have weighed in at 124.6. I'm not planning on a gigantic Christmas meal, but am going to indulge in some sweet treats and wine :D. I'm hoping by Tuesday, I'll still be this weight! Lower would be nice, but for now as long as the scale doesn't go up, I'll be ok to maintain for a week lol. This weight brings me 6 ounces shy of my original goal weight. I think I am going to adjust it a little bit lower though.... Maybe go in 3 to 5 pound increments until I can find a Happy Me. I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm very happy to report that it's the day after Christmas and I have seen another nice loss, I'm down to 145.8 this morning. That's a .8lb loss since Christmas Eve. I was completely in control all throughout Christmas and I feel amazing. Great food, friends, and family....no regrets over my food choices and consistently hitting the gym (even on Christmas day).

Unless I lose 6lbs in the next 5 days I won't make goal but that's ok. I'm seeing a steady loss, albeit slower than the beginning, but it's a loss nonetheless. Hope everyone finishes out their holiday season on a happy note!

reading through it's great to see you all chcking in regularly! Sorry I've been away, I came down with flu the DAY we drove back to my Mum's (despite having had the jab!) and had an horrendous Christmas week - feverish, off food and drink, miserable and emotional. Really crap Christmas - especially as I was cooking!

Wow, it's been so long since I've checked in that I got logged out of the website.

Well, it's been quite a month. I have thoroughly enjoyed the sweets and delicious foods, and will continue to do so until they are gone. I am proud to say that I am enjoying them responsibly, like what I would guess a "normal" person might do. I'm not going overboard, and I'm not saying oh well, I blew the day already, might as well eat that too. I am exercising religiously, which I'm sure has been my saving grace.

My weight has been up and sort of down, but I haven't seen the 140s, as was my goal, since the beginning of the month. But today I am at 151.6, and that feels okay.

I am going to visit a college friend for NYE this weekend, and it will be debauchery and calories aplenty, I am sure, but I'm not worried anymore. I have proven to myself that I can enjoy life and not let my weight get out of control. What a great gift. I wish it on everyone here. I am looking forward to seeing people I haven't seen yet as a thin person, and that is worth hanging onto--even better than chocolate. But the sweet thing is that it's possible to have both, as long as I don't tell myself I have to have ALL the chocolate!

Congratulations to everyone who has stayed in control, and those who have come back to their senses after being out of control! Next year, we'll all reach our goal!

Well it's another day of 145.8, so this makes it 5 days in a row. I'm still looking to be at 145.0 by New Year's Eve. On a brighter note I am getting deeper in to my yoga practice. It's been about 3 months since i've been practicing, I'm a novice I know, but my body is really starting to feel stronger and longer.

Whatever your big plans are for New Year's Eve just remember to stay safe and be responsible. Make big plans to go in to the new year on a healthy and happy note.

Thank you Ms Perception for starting this challenge for the month of December. I exceed my goal by 1/2 pound because I wanted to eat what I wanted at our Christmas parties.(down 4.5 lbs.) (I went up a pound but quickly took it right back off.) Challenges always works for me and this was a good one Ms Perception, thanks again. I'll be looking forward to seeing many more names in red by tonight? Or will you carry it over New Years Eve?
ms Perception: Let's not be part of the statistics about how the average person gains 10-15 pounds during the holidays. Let's be LOSERS! :D

The rules of this thread are simple. We are here to provide each other some accountability along the path to weight loss. So, you just set your weight loss related goal(s) and it gets added to a goal list. When you reach your goal, it gets turned Red

Happy New Year everyone @ 3FC!!!!

I didn't make my goal weight this month, I did however, have a 2.8lb loss. My final weight for the year is 145.8. 2010 was an amazing year for me, and even though I'm still not at goal (so close I can taste it) I learned so much about my body, and for that I am proud.

I hope everyone had a fabulous year and accomplished as many goals as possible. Here's to a happy, healthy, positive, and productive 2011 :carrot:

Didn't make my goal for the month.
I gain 12lbs. as of this morning :(

No matter. What's done is over.
I'm back at it and ready to go again :carrot: I still weigh less this morning than I did 1 year ago today so that's real progress.
I'm looking forward to 2011. Hope you are too :)

Happy New Year :newyear:

Scratch my whole "didn't quite make goal this month" post. As of this morning, I'm 174.8, which is .2 under my monthly goal! Also? It means I'm no longer obese!

I'll be updating the December goal list in just a minute. Here's the link to the January thread: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/chicks-up-challenge/220900-january-weight-loss-challenge.html#post3627176

Sorry for the delay (AGAIN!), but I've been out of town for the last 4-5 days visiting my grandma who has taken a turn for the worse. She doesn't have much time left, so I wanted to spend time with her when the opportunity presented itself. She lives about 7 hours away and the trip was short notice. Anyway, I'm back now and trying to get my head on straight and get back to normal life. See you in the January thread...

Happy New Year.

I did not reach my goal (155lbs). I am happy to report though that I did not gain any weight over the holidays. There was a lot of sweets and lounging around the house. I did get to the gym a few times and did a couple work outs at home. Over all I'm pleased with how the holidays went.

My goal for the end of January is to bust away those 5 lbs and reach 155 (and hopefully a little more). :)

Hey Ladies!
I haven't been on here in a while my computer had a melt down it took a while to buy a new one.

Unfortunately my scales was on the fritz so my start weight was wrong :( Thought I was 220 but turned out with nice fresh batteries, I came up at 228.0 took me a day to figure it out haha oh well what can you do? Guess that's what happens when you don't use it for a year lol

So I didn't quite meet my goal for December but I came pretty close lost 9lbs as of December 22 and then gained 2lbs the last week *whoops*

I'm now at 7lbs lost and 3lbs short of my goal for December not too bad considering the holidays :D I tried to not over indulge my issue was working out I just couln't find the time to get in more than 3 good workouts the last two weeks.
