South Beach Diet - McSteamy Monday!

View Full Version : McSteamy Monday!

11-29-2010, 01:13 AM
Let's get this week off to a great start! I'm back on track after two weeks off the beach and it feels good to be back on plan. I doubt that I'll stray from this path again because it doesn't benefit my body! I'm going back to school for my Lead Teacher certificate in 2011! In 2012, I'm going back to get my PHD in Political Science. I have a Bachelor's in Political Science already.

I'm w/ you, Okie...I've been mostly on plan this past week but I've been eating way too many sweets (on-plan, but still) and have had a few off-plan things in addition to Thanksgiving dinner. So this week I'm dedicating myself to getting back on track. I will even limit myself to 2 beers when I go out w/ my friend in Florida...let's hope I can stick to it b/c me and her used to go to the bar at a "drink all you can until midnight for $10" and we'd get there at 11:30 and down a couple of pitchers before it was too late.

I've got today and tomorrow off and then work 2 days and then I'm off for a week. I can't wait!!! The back of my legs are super sore still from all the walking we did yesterday, but I sure don't feel guilty about missing the gym workouts at night those 3 days this week. I made up for it, LOL

So how are your plans shaping up for Monday??? Mine are to sleep, sleep, and sleep some more. LOL

11-29-2010, 02:58 AM
Have a great Monday Natasha. My Monday plans are to enjoy MNf (Monday night Football), eat healthy, and to sleep!

11-29-2010, 03:06 AM
Thanks, Okie, you too!!! Myself, I don't watch professional football but I love College and High School football. My bestfriend was shocked to find out that I know very little about the technical stuff...I just like to watch it and know enough to know when to cheer and when to boo, LMFAO My mom tried to explain to me what a running back was one day and I told her "but they're ALL running"...once she explained it I wanted to know if the running back does all the hard work why the heck does the quarter back get all the glory??? LMFAO

11-29-2010, 03:41 AM
Lol, I can't believe u don't know the technical stuff, it's real easy to pick up on! Super Bowl is gonna be bananas!

I don't...not at all. I mean, I know the obvious stuff like fumbles and some of the penalties...but as far as who does what (besides that the running back does the running and the quarterback tells everybody what to do) I have no clue. I *do* know, however, that the quarterback usually has the cutest a$$ on the team. LMFAO

Okay, I couldn't believe there were already 5 posts when I logged on a little after 4. I hope you two are sound asleep and dreaming happy football dreams :) You two got me thinking about another thread I need to start for myself (no, it's not about sleep though I am in insomnia **** again).

Okie- Are you planning the child care course in CA? I don't know anything about their regs but I know every state is different (now NY, NH & VT I could tell you about ;) ) Have you looked into a CDA? It's recognized in every state and lots of countries. I can find you some online info if you want to know more. I've worked in early childhood ed for more than 25 years and am happy to share what I know.

Natasha - I'm all about college basketball and would never spend time on pro sports so I know what you mean.

Lucky for me today is almost entirely WFH. I will probably run into town to make copies at Staples and visit a couple of my local providers but most of the focus will be phones. I am putting together a training calendar for 2011 (how did I end up doing my old job again?!) and we are moving a survey into the field with the usual crazy short turn around. Given the size of my turf it's just easier to get that all going from my home phone then hit the road the rest of the week.

It looks like a few warmer days around here but I'm definitely getting snows on the cars in the first half of the week. Life is going to be crazy right into Christmas so I just need to get this done while I can. Friday I'm in Burlington for a meeting and dinner so home late. Sat. & Sun we are off to Boston to see DD and her BF. Next week is a normal work week but Saturday is also work. Then Sunday I'm off to work in NM for a week. DW will join me midweek and we will spend an extra weekend birding. Home the 20th and off to my parents the 23rd. I'm already looking forward to that week between the holidays! I'm wearing myself out thinking about it. I think I'll just focus on today :)

How is your Monday shaping up?

11-29-2010, 07:16 AM
Morning, Cyndi. I'm not quite in bed yet, but I'm heading there shortly. And today is going to be my day to SLEEP SLEEP SLEEP...I'm excited, LOL!!! I think, for me, the turnoff for professional sports is their salary. I've never been a BIG fan but I lost a lot of respect after the strike years ago where they were demanding bigger salaries. I'm sorry, but no guy that just happens to be good at catching a ball and running deserves to make 10 times more money than a guy that can crack open my chest and shock my heart in order to make it beat again!!! Sounds like you have a nice vacation planned...I know you're ready!!!

Time to let my dog back in and head to bed. Hopefully she'll come snuggle w/ me. :)

***ETA*** Oh, Cyndi, I meant to ask you a question. I've got some pictures from yesterday that I'd like to post but I didn't know if it was something I could post here or if I needed to do it in General Discussion. Thoughts???

11-29-2010, 07:26 AM
:coffee: You chickies had me confused, I thought this thread was yesterday's. :dizzy: I hope both Okie and Natasha are sound asleep by now and dreaming happy dreams, football or not. I'm not a football fan and don't understand any of the game rules. It drives me nuts when I'm waiting for a TV show to come on and see that the game is in overtime. Especially when you see that there's 1 minute left on the clock, and that minute stretches into 10. And why do they call so many time-outs? It drives me nuts!

Cyndi, your next few weeks do sound pretty busy! I'm glad you enjoy your work, though.

I'll be sleeping in my own bed tonight, but will be spending the rest of the week at the farm with the girls while Cindy & Richard are in England. I don't mind it at all, though, and while the girls are in school during the day, I can even run home to check on things. I'll take them to their grandparent's after school on Friday for the weekend, and the girls will stay with them until Sunday afternoon, when I have to pick them up again.
I'm really looking forward to this Saturday, when I'll be meeting my two dear friends, Leenie & Jiffypop, for a day of shopping in New York City! That should be a lot of fun! :)

11-29-2010, 07:32 AM
Good morning Okie and Natasha! I catch my football scores on the evening news reports. I'm always interested in knowing how things came out, but don't care much about watching a whole game.

Wow Cyndi, your post made me sit up and notice how close Christmas actually is! I've been so busy enjoying my Thanksgiving company that Christmas still seemed far off to me. lol

Jake will be a bachelor this week then Linda? I hope you have a great week!

Our house is strangely quiet this morning. I like my peaceful early mornings but I'm always a little sad right after the kids go home. I wonder if I'll ever get used to them being all grown up?

I've still got Autumn/Thanksgiving decorations and book displays up in my classroom so I need to get there early this morning and switch those. I think I have bus duty this week, too. I need to double check my plan book.

Enjoy your Monday friends!

Natasha - personally I'd like to see a couple of pictures. Lots of us share pics now and then. How many pics are you thinking about?

Cottage - I'm so jealous of yet another get together. I have yet to meet anyone from here. Enjoy your week with the girls.

Heidi - I know, every time I look at the calendar I start to twitch. Luckily our holidays will be very mellow this year so not much planning to do.

11-29-2010, 07:55 AM
Steamy? Sure isn't steamy around here as we are just at freezing. At least it's going to be sunny!

I'm not very chatty this morning. Aside from Wade's suicide, I got a phone call yesterday that my friend Linda in BC died Saturday night. I am very much in shock as we had lunch together when I was out there. LindaBC used to post here in South Beach - some of you may remember her.

This will be a difficult week but I'll try to pop in.

11-29-2010, 07:56 AM
Another day of P90X behind me. Week 2 has begun: Bring it!

I've got a delicious beef and veggie stir fry ready for lunch today, headed off to work in just a moment. :) My husband has a few new things planned for dinners this week (though he won't give me any details, insisting that I'll be surprised instead).

I return to my trainer on Thursday evenings again this week. That should work out well since Thursdays are Yoga days (assuming my new video has arrived by then). I work out with a friend who needs the company. :)

May your day be energetically fulfilling. :D

I posted 23 on my other forum earlier. I could easily shrink that down to maybe a dozen just to get the shots I really would like to share in there. I took 383 photos, by the way...LMFAO I set it on "sports" which is a continuous shooting setting.

11-29-2010, 08:14 AM
Ruth ~ Words can't express the sorrow I'm feeling for you right now, and I wish I could be there to help comfort you.

11-29-2010, 08:34 AM
I'm so sorry Ruth.

11-29-2010, 08:38 AM
Good morning chicks!

Okie - I love how you are always so positive in your attitude:) I've strayed too and my body had been complaining.

Natasha - I lost my car once in an airport parking garage. I did not realize there was more than one and was looking in the wrong garage! I don't know the technical stuff either - just the basics. I only really ever paid attention to games when my son played for a while. Enjoy your days off.

Cyndi - My teen's priority in choosing a college is a great basketball team he can follow the rest of his life! Your December sounds crazy busy!

Linda - Your Saturday sounds wonderful. Anything in particular you'll be shopping for?

Heidi - Outside for bus duty? Keep warm.

Ruth -

Annie - I may have said this already... (darn bad memory), but I am thinking of having my boys get me that P90X for Christmas. I hear lots of good things about it.

We have a service guy coming today so are stuck in the house waiting. I have work to do on my software project to keep myself busy. Tonight we deliver dinner to my teen's broadcast class/group; it is work night so they go straight through until about 11pm. It is now dawning on me that in past years I had gotten a lot of holiday shopping completed by now and this year I have not even started!

11-29-2010, 09:22 AM
Good Morning:sunny:

Geez, Ruth! I'm so sorry to hear about your friend,'s not been a good month.

I slept in, so am going to start surveying the situation here and come up with a plan. Take care everyone!

11-29-2010, 11:27 AM
Good Morning Chickadees :) What a Glorious day for getting back on track, right?!

FO-Yeay you for going back to school!

Natasha- I also have a night out with friends right around the corner and its no secret how I tend to not stop when I start drinking! I am thinking I will do two glasses of wine instead of beer and then drink soda water with lime after that!

Cyndi- I loved your thread this morning, it was just what I needed to read as well  WHew- you have a lot planned! Think thats just the way it goes around this time of year and I am with you- focusing on today!!!

Cottage- weekend shopping in NYC! what a blast!

Heidi- Have a good week! Hope you get all your decorations switched over quickly!

Ruth- I am so sorry to hear that, Will send some prayers up.

annie- good for you! P90x seems like a great workout! I have heard great things about it

Karen- we're in the same boat about shopping, although I am buying for many less this year... Most are getting peppermint bark from me and a card :)

Debbie-

As for me this morning, I am cleaning a bit, laundry, the usual monday schedule around here... Being so busy this month is really good motivation to keep everything sparkling. Seems company comes constantly right now, which I enjoy but I am sure by the new year I will be ready for a break but it will be mid January before I get one! Planning a girls trip to chicago the beginning of the month! I can't wait!-another good reason to drop a couple lbs! Well, time to get the day moving! I have the :tree: lights on and a pine candle burning! Makes me happy ;0)

PS- I have looked hard for a nice pine scented candle this year and am having a terrible time finding one- they all are mixed with something else. I used to love the glade scented oil ones but they changed the fragrance and I don't care for it anymore- any suggestions?

11-29-2010, 11:47 AM
Ruth - my deepest condolences. ((hugs))

rikki - have you tried bath and body works? i loooooooooooooooooove their balsam fir fragrance, and Yankee Candle has some really great pine ones too. Both are $$, but they last a super long time and are really richly fragranced.

11-29-2010, 01:21 PM
Morning everyone! Back on track today after an overindulgent weekend. Ugh. I'm so tired and sluggish today. I woke up EXCITED to be back on track!

No worries, Cyndi, I haven't met anyone from here either. :( Nobody EVER comes to the midwest, and the Key West trip just didn't pan out. I consider a lot of you girls some of my closest friends, too! Hopefully one day!

Ruthie - I am SO sorry. Definitely keeping you in my prayers this week.

Rikki - I'm with Lindsey, Bath & Body for real! I love Christmas Tree smell. SNIFF ahhh. I need to break out the Christmas Tree candles, myself. We just got the fake tree up yesterday.

Very excited to be back on track today. I just feel blah. Headache, tired, slow. Yuck. Bought up lots of healthy things at the store yesterday, though. Brown rice, whole wheat pasta, Triscuits, low-fat cheese sticks, low-fat cottage cheese, whole wheat bagelthins, low-fat LC Mozz/Sundried Tomato, veggies, V8, etc. I love that Chris is on-board with me eating better finally!

Gotta get back to work. Hope everyone's having a great OP day!

11-29-2010, 01:27 PM
I shudder at the thought of going into bath and body works but since you both say they are so good I will have to try it :) The smell is sooo overpowering when you walk in that I tend to just avoid it! lol Thanks!

11-29-2010, 01:38 PM
I can't do Bath & Body Works either. My nose starts itching and I start sneezing the minute I walk in. The Yankee Candle factory store is pretty darned close to where I live. Might be time for a 3FC road trip ;) I started burning my balsam and cedar candle yesterday too.

11-29-2010, 01:38 PM
My condolences Ruth! Cyndi, I'm staying in MD for the foreseeable future.

11-29-2010, 02:15 PM
Morning everyone. I have been MIA lately because...well I've been doing TERRIBLY! November has been an awful month for SBD for me, and its cost me weight wise. It was just a bit of a free for all, very nice and self destructive. :(

BUT yesterday's mistakes don't keep me from being successful today. So back at it, I am. Big bottle of water on my desk right now, good snacks in the fridge. I have definetly cost myself my 1/1/11 goal with this nonsense, but that doesn't mean I won't make it to that number, just not when I had planned to!

11-29-2010, 02:23 PM
Hey everyone  No time for personals this morning as I have a busy away from home day but know that I read and cherish every one of your posts. Will check back later this afternoon/evening. Hope everyone has a great day on the beach!

11-29-2010, 03:09 PM

Ruth- so sorry to hear of your loss and I do remember her posting on here.

I am so sore today- started back up on Jillian's 30 Day shred yesterday- can barely move today (thighs and arms)- it always amazes me how you change up your workout and then you realize you were not using some of your muscles as much with your other workout.

11-29-2010, 05:00 PM
Ruth Honey I am so Sorry! I remember Linda she was a truly lovely soul

Cottage: how long will you be in the city? you'll have so much fun Hug those girls for me We have a Christmas Lunch with some Crotchety old guys that day :(

I'm slowly getting back on track
kicking out the refined carbs and finding my control for the first time in months

11-29-2010, 06:15 PM
Ruth, I'm so sorry. *hug* I'll be praying for Linda's family and friends (and of course for you) during this awful time.

Cyndi, our meet up didn't work out last spring because of my Dad's death but I'm still counting on getting together with you one of these days! I'm practically a professional driver these days and wouldn't mind driving over to meet you. Heck, if the weather's right I could toss my snowshoes in the back of the Durango and we could combine our visit with some exercise.

Whoa Natasha! When you take pictures you REALLY take pictures!

I am down another pound today! :broc: I didn't expect it because I was down yesterday too, but I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth. LOL It's been at least 15 years since I've seen 145 on my scale. I floated through my early bus duty! ;)

 to the rest of you!

11-29-2010, 08:05 PM
OK girls- you got me into bath and body works- and I was amazed that the smell was very minimal! Maybe they are changing their ways or maybe its just this store(its a new one I had never been in before) Well, I didn't buy a candle but 2 evergreen "bulbs" and a couple clips for cars as gifts and a couple refills. and 30 dollars later I still am missing the candle I went in for! LOL The bulbs dont quite smell as good as the candles they had sitting out to show you what the scent was. drats. I may take them back and ask if I can exchange them since they don't smell the same.

11-29-2010, 08:42 PM
I'm late to the game today. I am checking in to be accountable. I have been doing horribly :( Trying to pick myself back up.

Am overwhelmed by doing personals right now (not much time) but I want to send prayers out for Ruth  I'm so sorry :(

11-29-2010, 09:01 PM
I am new to the board and of course the diet. I hate diets and the word itself. I read the book almost completely (read in different orders too, hahaha) and believe this is for me, as I am not a sugar addict and love veggies and meat...;)

I did an okay job today, but I am still confused about the coffee additions. I want to use the non-dairy, coffee mate creamers. Does anyone know if you can still achieve the same results, as long as there is only a serving per cup in the coffee? I really love coffee and with the flavors alongside. I only drink up to two a day. Any thoughts?

Thank you for this site and I look forward to getting to know ya'll. Leslie

11-29-2010, 09:09 PM
:welcome: Leslie... as for the creamers, I myself don't use dairy but I use almond milk sometimes the vanilla flavored one(almond milk) but most of the time if I put flavor in my coffee I will just use a dash of cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, or a drop of vanilla extract. Seems those creamers are full of not so sbd compliant stuff.

11-29-2010, 09:23 PM
Rikki ~ I have a Yankee Candle Balsam Fir, and it smells just like a fresh pine forest. Jake is pretty sensitive to a lot of scents, but doesn't mind this one at all. :)

Kierie ~ I'm just going to NYC for the day. That would be fun for you to join us if you could, but we'll have to make plans to get together the next time I'm up there. I'll be sure to give Leenie and Jiffy hugs from you. :)

Karen ~ We're not shopping for anything in particular, just planning on visiting some of the Christmas Markets that are going on and whatever else catches our eye.

Heidi ~ Congratulations for continuing to lose weight during the hardest time of the year! It sounds like you're really motivated to keep going strong!
