MOVE ON AHEAD

When the disappointments come, when you've been knocked down and tossed around, get back up and move on ahead. After all, you've paid a heavy price to get this far, so the best option is to really make it count by moving forward from where you are.

When everything has happily gone your way, and you're sitting on top of the world, get back up and move on ahead. Make your accomplishments truly count by putting them to positive, productive use.

Whatever comes your way, whether good or bad, whether joyous or disappointing, get back up and move on ahead. It is always the best response. Feeling sorry for yourself after a setback will only serve to extend and magnify the disappointment. Feeling smug and arrogant after a victory will drain the value out of what you have just accomplished.

Whatever has happened, don't spend too long looking backward. Look forward, step positively, confidently forward, and move on ahead.

-- Ralph Marston

**************
CHANGE FOR THE BETTER

Even when it is not possible to change anything else for the better, you can always change yourself for the better. Even in the most desperate situations, when no other option is available, you always can decide upon your own attitude.

Just as it is entirely possible to be miserable in even the most pleasant surroundings, so too is it possible to be positive and effective in the most difficult circumstances. Always bear in mind that your attitude is whatever you decide it is going to be.

So why would you ever want to go through so much as a single moment with a negative, defeated attitude? There is simply nothing of value that it can accomplish.

On the other hand, when you choose a positive focus, even the setbacks and disappointments can end up working in your favor. For you will be open to the positive possibilities that do surely exist in those seemingly hopeless situations.

The hope is there, the way forward is there, when you make up your mind to see it and live it. When life is stubbornly negative, keep your attitude positive. When nothing else will change for the better, change your own thoughts for the better. And you'll soon see everything else following positively along.

Well, here it is another week.... I am wondering how I am going to manage being good, and resting another whole week. I feel pretty good, and even a bit energetic. Staying home, in bed is getting VERY old..boring as all get out. If I can make it through this week, it will be a miracle. And the doctor thinks I need to spend FOUR more weeks like this?! No way!

I stepped on the scale this morning, to see how I was doing in keeping off the weight I lost while sick. I am still down 7 pounds, which is not too bad, figuring I was barely eating at all, so it was like fasting. I was very good yesterday, and I have switched to snacking on raw vegetables, instead of nuts, or popcorn. Just being bored silly makes me want to nibble all the time. Today, I started back on some of my medications for my metabolic disorder, and I am anxious to see what happens, after being off them for two weeks.

DEB: Thanks for the word on popcorn. I have never heard of the brand you mentioned, but I think Orville Redenbacher has one called SmartPop that is very low fat, etc. I will check it out. I do like popcorn now and then. I guess if it does not become a problem, it might be a nice snack now and then. I too have a tendency to want to eat the whole bag, then fight myself to keep from eating another one....

Guess I will go take a nap. I am not really tired, but everytime I look around, I see something that needs doing.....

Hi All!

Can't be here too long. I promised to make my mom some curtains and she's coming this afternoon to pick them up. Of course I haven't started making them yet!

Thanks so much to everyone for your input on the banana bread issue. I think I will try making it with ww flour and applesauce to sweeten and then just make myself NOT eat too much. I don't bake a lot--usually in fits and starts. I DO eat bananas once in a while, but I eat them when they have a bit of green still on them. I can't eat them once they get any riper. So as soon as they start to turn, I throw them in the freezer to bake with later. Once they're defrosted, it also gives extra moisture to what I'm making.

Well, the munchie gremlin got me!:fr: :yikes: ALL my fault. I have had chips every night since Friday. Saturday and Sunday my eating was good except for the birthday desserts each night.

Well, today is a new day and a new start! So far, so good. I'm lucky that the scale is only saying 167 today. It could be worse!

MONET--please listen to the doc!!! I know you may be feeling better, but that mono is lingering in your body and if you push yourself too much, you'll have a relapse. It's like when people stop taking their antibiotics before they're supposed to because they feel better. They get sick again real quick. I know it's difficult to stand in the sidelines when your a wife and mom, but you hve to take it easy. Now I'm not saying do absolutely nothing, but maybe just do one little thing a day and gradually build up your stamina. I've known people who've had mono, and they tried getting back into the swing of things too much, too soon and had to start back at square one. I just want you to get well as quick as possible with no relapse.:grouphug:

Ok, I gotta get out of here!

Good morning all. Well tomorrow I leave for my trip. Hopefully I can post one more time before I go. And then use there computer while I'm there. I bought me a few snacks for the trip. Some peanuts, string cheese and an apple. Hope this all works and I stay on SB while I'm gone. I'm so worried about messing up.

Debilli- I can't believe how much I needed your motivation today. Yes I think its all in the attitude. And right now I need to really have a positive one instead of buckling with pressure of the trip.

Monet- You're sounding lots better. I know how hard that can be when you start getting energy back. I felt that way after heart surgery. Thank goodness for a computer. You may have to start shopping on e-bay or something. LOL.. Good luck. And congrads. on keeping the 7 lbs. off.

Zanne- Glad you figured out a way to do the banana bread. Yum I bet its good....

Well time to make breakfast and get myself cleaned up a bit...

Can you believe it..I'm actually here bright and early this morning. Toni...have a fun safe trip. Don't worry about messing up..you will do GREAT.

The weather is da bomb! It's going to be in the mid 70's today so I plan on getting in a nice short walk. The last couple of days the walks have been incredible since I took the pressure off....not worrying how fast or how far. I'm doing about a 14 minute mile. I think my body is already responding well....I"ve slept like you can't imagine. I took Deb's advice and have tried subbing other salty foods for the majority of the chips and it seems to be helping with the cravings. Canned green beans did the trick yesterday. I've always loved em....can't eat just one. Aint that funny. But truthful...I can eat a spoon of ice cream..a chip or two..but I usually eat a half a can of green beans..okay almost the whole can. :)

I have been a little bummed that the weight is coming off so slow..my fault..but also I think I am at that place. WELL....this morning I was so happy. I pulled the wrong pants out of the closet...one of my tight 9's...29 inch waist...not tight woo hoo!!

Today is burn day if the wind will cooperate..it's been soooo windy the last two days. Any burning would have torched the house..not a good thing..LOL

Well, the kids are doing school and they've noticed I'm not right behind them so I'd better scoot. Have a SUPER week! Today is a new day...grab and go for it! Stay OP and find time to treat yourself...you are worth it.

Love,
Crystle

Hi! Hope everyone had a great weekend! This past weekend was the first weekend that I did not have any SF ice cream!!! Yea!!! I stayed on plan and had absolutely no junk food (i.e. SF ice cream or SF treats) I'm going to really try and not eat any of that stuff till I reach goal, but that may be impossible during the holidays...I will probably make some SF treat during the holiday season. I also did better on my starchy carbs. The only starchy carbs I had all weekend were (2) SGWW tortillas at Ole Ole for my cheese enchiladas... I had to go over to my boyfriends (Gary's) family's house on Sunday for a get together since his Aunt and Uncle were visiting from Buffalo, NY. They had roast beef, gravy, mashed potatoes, greenbeans, corn, and rolls for dinner. Therefore, I only ate the roast beef and greenbeans. For dessert, they had chocolate mouse pie, pumpkin pie, and pound cake. (It's a big Polish family and they love to eat!!! :) Anyhow, I did NOT have any dessert either. I drank a diet coke instead. I think I did pretty good with them trying to stuff all that junk down my face. They don't understand why I don't eat sugar anymore and they definitely don't understand why I don't eat potatoes and corn. Cause corn is for cattle and potatoes are for pigs!!!! Anyway, it was a good test for me and I passed with flying colors staying on plan like I wanted to. I'm very proud of myself. Now, I only hope I can do that at Thanksgiving and Christmas. This will be the first holiday season that I don't make myself sick on all that junk and you know what? I think this year will be refreshingly nice.:) Also, eventhough, I haven't lost anymore weight, I tried on my "skinny" jeans and I actually got them up and zipped (of course while lying on my back on my bed) and then I walked into my daughter's bedroom and said look! I got these old jeans on again! (She thought I was insane in the membrane) I can't sit down or anything in them, but it was just the fact that I could get them on. Each week, I'm going to try them on to keep me motivated. After not breathing for about 3 1/2 minutes, I had to lay down on the bed to unzip them and get them off, but it was fun while it lasted...:^: Also, I am no longer sick and I have to do my Firm workout tonight. It will be hard after taking off a week, but I have to do it!! Also, I got the Gazelle Edge Glider and a new bike in over the weekend, but they are in boxes still since Gary was VERY sick with a bad cold over the weekend and was unable to assemble them for me. I hope to be using those new items next week for variety...I can't wait!!!! Next week, I will be able to do some different kind of exercise every day of the week. Geez, I think I'm toooo spoiled. BUT, making exercise fun is what keeps me motivated to keep doing it. I'm just a kid at heart, that's for sure..

Lara: HAPPY BIRTHDAY GIRL!!! Have lot's of fun and party hardy!!

Monet: I'm sorry to hear that you have to stay in bed for 3 more weeks. It's got to be so boring for you to stay in bed all day. Maybe you could take up crocheting or something and make things for Christmas presents while in bed. Then, when x-mas comes, you'll have all your shopping done. What kind of metabolic disorder you have? How does it affect you?

Susanne: Sounds like you only eat green bananas anyhow and I don't see that affecting your weight loss as long as you don't eat them everyday if you know what I mean. As soon as I reach goal, I plan on eating a banana at least once a month! Sorry to hear that the munchie gremlin got you over the weekend. Like you said today is a new day!

Toni: Have a safe and fun trip to see your brother in CO! Don't worry, it won't be too hard to stay on plan...Let me know how the snow is and if you do any skiing.

Jackie: I know that you're not here either this week. You are probably dancing away those pounds on the cruise ship as I'm writing this! You are here in spirit and we are all thinking of you. Look forward to seeing pictures and hearing all about it.

Hope everyone has a great day and talk to you soon!

Hi again, forgot to read the posts ending from last week! I don't get on the computer during the weekends, so I usually have a lot of catching up to do!

Melf: Today is a NEW day and you can start over and just remember what happened when you went off plan. Don't worry you can get back on track in no time!

Debbie: I wish I could of met you on Sunday at Ole Ole, but Gary's family reunion and us already eating there on Saturday didn't make it feasible. We go almost every weekend, so I'm sure I'll meet you soon. I'm also sorry to hear that you had a "bad" Friday and you were not motivated to exercise. I find sometimes if I'm not feeding my body with healthy foods then I might as well not exercise too. They kind of go hand in hand. Once you start eating healthy and on plan again, your motivation to exercise will also come back. Also, sometimes your body is telling you that you need a break from exercise. Don't fret and you can start all over again this week. I have Open House this Thursday for Amber and they are giving us their report cards when we go. Wish me luck!

Good morning everybody.

Welcome newbies!!! This is a great place if you haven't already figured that out.

Music Teach - I saw your post Friday night about your high school football team winning. What else would you be doing on a Friday night and the bigger question is why weren't you there!! High school football in Texas is HUGE!!! We were at our game and won 42-10. Lost our kicker though. I'm just hoping he's not out for good. He got hurt before halftime and it's obvious from the rest of the game that we have no depth in the kicking game. Play-offs start this Friday and we play a team that we always lose to. Keeping our fingers crossed for this year, though.

Denise - I had never put the exercise motivation thing and the health food thing together, but what an eye-opener. Thinking back, that is so true. That's part of what makes this board so great, those little moments of "ah-haaa" that we all get sometimes. Thanks!

BOB - What happened to the VOLS!! It was there job to handle Miami for us. The Aggies handled OU and the Horns took care of business on Saturday, so it could have been pretty sweet in the polls today. Oh, well.

I guess I better get to work. Everybody have a terrific day (Country don't ya just love this weather!!).

Hello Everyone from rainy east central Alabama. It was a rough night with thunderstorms and tornadoes all over the state. I hope all the AL gals are alright this morning!

I spent the weekend mostly in my jammies. I wasn't sick--just exhausted. I didn't even go to the Auburn game because I just couldn't make myself get out of my jammies.

The weekend:

NC State:

Auburn: :D

UT: :(

UK/LSU: :dizzy:

This week UGA comes to the plains--I do plan on going to that game!

Alright--no more excuses. My life gets back on an even keel today--and so do my nutritional habits! I still don't have a scale, so I have no idea what my weight is--truth he told, I don't really want to know. I hope to get by Walmart today or tomorrow to take the scale back and get a replacement.

I love Mondays because you can catch up with everyone!

Trish--I hope you are having a great day today!

Denise--Congrats on staying OP this weekend!

Country Mom--Your weather sounds great! It is very icky here today after a somewhat scary night! I like your thoughts for the new week! Keep the faith the weight will come off!

Toni--Have a great trip!

Zanne--Truth be known, I do get a hnskering for bananas every once in a while. I always liked them green, so I don't think they are too bad. I'm seriously thinking about getting a bread machine so I can make some WW rolls to use for my Thanksgiving stuffing.

Monet--you must be feeling better--boredom has set in! It is still important that you not do too much too soon--you will relapse! You need to save your strength because you really do not want to be sick throughout the holidays! Besides--you can get that chef SIL of yours to cook the THanksgiving dinner--and your family to clean up!

Deb--great motovational thoughts for the week! WE still don't have a governor--so I guess I have to take back every snide comment I've ever made about Flordia voters!

Have a great day everyone!

Well it IS a brand new week & the scale has been progressively going in the downward position daily. Finally below 140 this am. YEAH!

Debelli, those busicuits every morning really did a job on me. I know that you also will find the strenght to get back OP very soon. What is it that gets into us??? You would think that with as hard as we have fought to get to where we are that we would be more careful but.... :fr: :nono:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LARA! Didn't want to miss wishing you a great week incase I can't get on the board later this week. :hb: :grouphug:

Monet 320, So glad to hear that you're feeling better & hope that things continue to improve for you. 4 more weeks :yikes: that will take alot of will power as you get to feeling better.

Zanne, Good luck with the curtains for your mom. Nothing like a little pressure to get you started eh? :D

Toni48, good luck with staying OP while you're away. Your snacks sound like a good start. Hope you have a great time!

CountryMom4Him, Sounds like great weather for you. Unfornately it looks like rain here. We've been praying for dry weather so that we can get DD's damaged trailer hauled off & get the land ready for her new home, but the weather is not co-operating at the moment. I hear thunder rolling. Hope you get a good walk in. That's something I need to start doing again, just don't seem to find the time.

Denise1963, I sat here & when I read "corn is for cattle and potatoes are for pigs!!!!" I have a friend that says that about potatoes. Congrats on doing so well at the family meal. That does take alot of will power & you did great! Thanks for the encouragement. I am doing better this week. Just got off course during our trip, but I'm definitely back on track this week.

Trishaloo, Good to see you posting, or maybe I just haven't been seeing you since I have not been able to get to the borad much these days. Anyway, have a great day!

Want to say  to all you gals, SEF, Rosalie, Gator, SolShine, Tranquil, Serene & anyone else I may have missed. Hoping that things can get back to near normal around here one of these days so that I can get back here on a regular basis with all you gals. Have a great day all!

Fillise, looks like we were posting at the same time. Sounds like you had a good kind of week-end. Glad your hectic schedule has cleared some & you kind kick back a little.

Fillise--Hope you have a GREAT Saturday and that the Plainsmen do well. Half the Gators on the Virtual Swamp message board are sporting UA logos next to their name because the Gator nation is pulling for the Tigers.

The Gators team, however, is playing some pathetic football. They squeeked by Vandy and will very possibly lose to SC this week.

Hope everyone has a good week. I played golf this morning and had a good healthy breakfast and a nice lunch: roast beef sandwich on sgww bread with a red grapefruit on the side. Yum. Gotta work out this afternoon with the weights. I'm one of those who finds exercise totally boring, although I do it.

Gosh, I take back what I said this morning! I got in bed to take a nap, out of boredom. TWO hours later, I had to shake myself to wake up. I got up, tried to read, and couldn't, got a cup of tea, checked my email and went BACK TO BED! I just woke up again! I feel like I could crawl back in bed for another two hours, but unfortunately, I have to pick up my daughter and take her to the dentist. I will probably sit in the car while she is having her teeth cleaned. She is really mad about it too...she has a deadline for the yearbook today, and did not want to go, but did not tell me until it was too late to change it.

DEB: I had a great guffaw about the cobwebs....Don't know why that struck me as so funny...except that I just woke up! ;)

DENISE: I can relate to the Polish family food thing! My mother's family is Czech, and two of my sisters married Polish men. (One did not speak English at home until he was in school!) I grew up in the Chicago area..and meat, potatoes and sweets were the staples of our diet. Good for you staying on program! My metabolic disorder has to do with too much insulin, which makes it about impossible for me to lose weight. I have way too much insulin, but my blood sugar levels are fine, so I am NOT a diabetic. I also am Hypothyroid, which contributes to the problem. I dream of one day getting it all fixed, and being able to lose weight again!

TONI: Have fun on your trip! And don't worry about messing up! You are going to do great!

ZANNE: You are right, I know. But it does not help to be so bored! :) After this morning, I am thinking this week may not be as hard as I thought it would be! tee hee. It is gray and wet out, so at least the sunshine is not mocking me!

FILLISE: Glad you are ok! Those storms were awful! No, I will not get the SIL chef to cook Thanksgiving dinner! You would not believe the mess that boy makes! groan. And he will fix something gourmet and weird! My youngest daughter told me I had to fix turkey this year, which made me want to cry. I swore I would never fix another one! (I got food poisoning from turkey the day after Thanksgiving when I was a junior in high school, and have hated it since! Last year I said enough! I am the menu maker, we will have Beef Wellington! Unfortunately, I am experiencing a bit of mutiny here!) I was just like you this weekend! Spent it in my jammies! In fact, I am STILL in my jammies!

newbie here!
just got the book on friday, and have started today. i am a former atkins/protien power participant lookin for a plan thast i can live with.
i have a ?? that maybe someone could answer or point me in the direction.
should i be counting calories??
the book states that calories are not all that important just the proportions 30% 30% 40%, but somewhere i have seen 1200 cal. mentioned i have a SB food pyriamid and have down loaded the glycimic index to print any thing else that i should know???

momw3ds, WELCOME!! You've found a great place to be & so glad to have you aboard. No, counting calories is not that important with SB, but portion sizes is still important. Debelli is our board moderator & our SUPER CHICK who can always lead you the right direction so I'm sure she will address your question later today, but in the meantime, wanted to say again, welcome. Hope you have lots of success with this WOE. We think it's the best. Lots of success stories here.

Where are you from & how far along are you on this jorney?

CountryMom4Him

Welcome! I've been following this WOE (way of eating) for about 17 to 18 months....never have I counted a calorie. But let me say I rarely eat breads or pasta. I'm not good when it comes to portion control so I eat a lot of what I call free foods...tomatos..lettuce...other fresh veggies. And learning to stop when you are full is a key. We get so programed to just eat until our plates are empty. I probably shouldn't go back for seconds but if I really like something..you bet..there I am fork in hand diggin' in. :)

In my family food is a celebration...a way of life in itself. So I had to learn a balance at get togethers and things like that. It's so hard when everyone is eating without giving it a second thought. Now, I give it a second thought..and sometimes a third. I try hard to eat for hunger and just taste. But like with all things there are good and bad days. We won't even talk about stress eating. :)

Welcome again to SB. I think you will find this plan to not only work but enjoyable the more recipes you learn. And the support you get from these ladies and fella on the board.

The numbers don't show it because of different scales and stuff but I'm down 86..was 88. I go up and down 2 pounds for the last little bit. Sorry I didn't mean to write you an essay....

Love,
Crystle

I have a couple more questions about cereal/oatmeal portions. When you have cereal, what do you consider a portion? What is written on the box? Also, when making oatmeal, how much uncooked oatmeal do you use? I did notice in the SB book where they have meal plans, it says 1 packet of plain Quaker oatmeal, made with 2/3 cup milk. So, when I made my oatmeal this morning, I used 1/3 cup of oatmeal before adding water (I can't stomach milk in oatmeal). Is that the right portion? One other thing in the book has confused me. In one portion of the book, they tell you to eat fruit 1/2 hr. before eating another meal. Yet, in the meal suggestions, they have you eating fruit with your cereal. I do apologize for all these questions, but I really want to get this WOE right. Aleka

momw3ds, welcome to this fabulous board of support people -- you will find all the support and answers to your questions you need! Forget all the calorie counting and look forward to an eating plan you can live with for the rest of your life. As you continue reading the book, you'll have more questions so fire away and one or more of us are bound to answer! And forget those diets you've been on previously! This is the plan that works and you don't even feel like you should be losing weight because you feel so great!!!

Aleka, glad to meet you, too. I have been away from the board for a few days doing some remodeling at home so I haven't been able to catch up with the posts -- I'll just start from here. As for the oatmeal, I measure about 1/3 cup of uncooked 5-minute oatmeal -- you'll see the measurements on the side of the box and can follow that for proportion of water you need. And I was confused about the fruit/meal combination, too -- I simply avoid eating fruit with a meal and when I have fruit, wait about 1/2 hour (at least) before eating my meal. Then you should wait after the meal at least an hour before eating fruit between meals. The authors of the SB book say if you must break this rule for digesting fruit, you should do it at breakfast -- the beginning of the day -- rather than later in the day. Hope this helps.

I've missed all of you the days I had to be away! Congratulations to all who lost weight during the last week! I haven't been on to see it all but please know I am proud of each and every one of you!!! I'll try to stay more plugged in now that things are winding down at the home remodeling scene!

Hi, I'm leaving work soon and wanted to check in as I get bored here at work too, Monet!

Crystle: What an accomplishment on your weight loss! 29" waist must feel great! Your weather in the 70's sounds nice. We had a record high again of 90 something. On Wed, we are supposed to get another cold front. Hopefully, it will stay awhile this time. What part of Texas do you live?

Trish: My reflections are quite weird. I always psycho-analyze things to death cause I'm always wondering why is this and why is that...I'm very all or nothing. If I'm not eating healthy, then I think to myself, why should I exercise?

Susan: Glad to hear that you were not harmed in the horrible tornados and storms that swept your way. From the news, it looked REALLY bad...

Mary: Glad I could give you a chuckle today. I love analogies too!

Gator Gal: That's great that you're golfing and working out with weights. Lots of exercise in one day!

Monet: I can relate to children giving like a day's notice when they need something. Amber usually tells me the night before she nees money for something if you know what I mean. That's so funny that you have Polish relatives and can relate to their smorgasbord of eating and talking. Every Sunday night seems like a family reunion with tons of food and sweets! Sorry to hear that you also have to deal with a metabolic disorder AND hypothyroidism. That has to be tough. I hope they can cure you someday.:)

Welcome Aleka and Momw3ds. You see how nice everyone is on this board? These are great people. You will love it here.

LKF: Your home remodeling sounds like a lot of fun and probably very tiring too. Keep us posted!

Okay, I'm going to go home now and do my first workout for the week! UGH!:( The Firm is a killer, but I've got to JUST DO IT!!

Take care and bye for now....

Forgot to mention!

My Mom won 1st place in the 1/2 marathon in Boca this past Sunday! She ran 13.1 miles in 2 hours, 20 min, 7 sec. She did each mile under 11 minutes. Signed her very proud daughter,

hello all, i am new at sugar busters but not new to the concept of low carb. in fact i lost 50lbs on atkins but am missing a lot of the good things like break and pastas, so i decided it was time to get to the sugar buster level. i have been doing fine but i do have questions that are just not getting answered on the other boards, maybe i will have better luck i here. here it goes:

can i eat cambels soups?
is it better to eat real mayo, after all to get it low fat they have to cut out fat and they add sugar?
what about russel stoffers candy?
what kind of crackers can we have?
what is the greatest amount that a serving of anything should have?
i have bought the book but i dont find specificis in it, like what serving size do i need to use, on atkins i ate all i wanted.

hope you all can help me, oh and also when im coocking the whole wheat pasta it has kind of like while stuff in it, is this normal?

Well I didn't get to walk today but that's okays one busy lady the first part of the day. Burned trash...did dishes and folded clothes. I'm not feeling like eating today and am just kinda tired so I figured it was best not to push it. They say we are gonna have a great week...mid to upper 60's for high's with no rain for the next bit so I will make it up.

Denise...I am near Lake Livingston....about an hour and a half from Houston. It's just beautiful out here. We live on a ten acre hay field so not any trees but a precious pond and more critters than I need. :) With all the rain we've been having it's really brought out the snakes...yucky.

Howdy to all the new ladies!!! Forgive for talking so long to say hi. It was one of those weeks. But this week is mucho better.

I forgot your name but someone ask about the RS candy...I personally feel it's a trap if you are just starting out. It's high in calories and I personally think it triggers a desire for carbs. But that might just be me. I do eat it on occasion. I've also found a life saver sugar free candy that only has 5 calories and I find that really takes the edge off of wanting a sweet.

I joke about it sometimes and it sounds funny but I am a carb addict...so I avoid starchy carbs....and really have to watch myself during stress or my cycle. It's kinda like...I can't just have a little. but it is getting better. I know some of the ladies say they've lost their taste for the no no's ...pleaseeeeeee...not this ole gal...and trust me for 8 months I was mega faithful..nothing crossed these lips that shouldn't....still like the carbs...my thing is the salty ones...not so much the sweets. So for all those new to SB....learn your triggers...your food triggers...your emotion triggers and you will do GREAT! If you can do adkins or WW and follow them I know you will have great success with SB. I can't think of a healthier WOE.

I've rambled again...ya'll think I have too much time on my hands? LOL

Love,
Crystle

Good evening, everyone! Monet has been a bad girl... After sleeping all morning, and taking my daughter to the dentist this afternoon, I made two quiches for our dinner. Now I feel tired and it is about time to go to bed! Tomorrow, I will be good...

I want to say, WELCOME to momw3ds, and Raquel, and Aleka, you are fairly new, so welcome to you too! Glad you joined us, and I hope we can help you be successful!

Raquel, you asked a few questions, and I am going to try and answer them as best I can:

can i eat cambels soups?
Yes, you can eat Campbells soups, but make sure you check the label. If it has less than 3 grams of sugar per serving, it is ok. Obviously, ones with lots of potatoes, and corn should be avoided.

is it better to eat real mayo, after all to get it low fat they have to cut out fat and they add sugar?
Sugarbusters is not like Atkins...it is recommended that you watch your fat intake. I use Hellman's light mayo for myself, and make olive oil mayo for my husband who does SB. Again, look at the sugar grams per serving. Use it sparingly in any case.

what about russel stoffers candy?
I love the stuff! But it is not a good idea to have it too much. I think they recommend no more than an couple ounces a week. Think of it as an occasional treat and you will lose better.

what kind of crackers can we have?
Ah, TRISCUITS! There are several flavors, and they are so good! Check the labels. As long as they are made from whole wheat and not enriched flour, they are ok.

what is the greatest amount that a serving of anything should have?
Of sugar? 3 grams.

i have bought the book but i dont find specificis in it, like what serving size do i need to use, on atkins i ate all i wanted.
You can eat all you need to fill you up of veggies, but limit your starchy carbs to two or three a day. If you want more specifics, get Michael Montiniac's book, Eat Yourself Slim. SB is based on his work.

I did Atkins for about three years, and did not lose on it. (I have metabolic problems and no matter how few carbs I ate, I never went into ketosis) I love SB, because you can have healthy things like veggies and fruits. I hope you are successful on SB!

Good morning everyone. It is Tuesday and with yesterday being Remembrance Day here ( Veterans Day for the Americans ) we had the day off. We ended up taking a hike through the woods with the kids and the dog. It lasted 2 hours long and it was a very nice time with some good exercise. The snow has all melted and it seems we are getting a reprieve before winter arrives for good. The kids actually set aside their winter coats and boots and wore spring jackets to school today! How bizarre.

LKF- I wondered what happened to you! When you stop posting one certainly notices! I just thought I would mention that when we eat oatmeal on SB it is not to be the quick variety, or even the 5 minute kind that you mentioned, but it is supposed to be the OLD FASHIONED large flake oatmeal. The reason is that it is less processed and is lower on the glycemic index. Just thought I would mention that to you incase you weren't aware. It is easy enough to switch to the old fashioned and still enjoy the oatmeal.

RAQUEL- Welcome to the board. I too am an Atkins veteran and enjoyed losing weight on it and eating all kinds of goodies. You will find that SB is just as easy to follow once you understand what and how much of it you can eat. There is a wonderful variety of foods we can eat on SB and it is so much more healthy and truly a way of eating that can be done for life. MONET answered all your questions there but I just thought I would add that there are other brands of canned soups out there that are a bit better to eat and totally SB legal. Spend some time in the grocery store reading labels in the soup aisle looking at brands you don't usually buy.

DENISE- How wonderful that your mother did so well in that marathon!!

ALEKA- The fruit thing is simply to prevent indigestion. That is why it is recommended to eat it 1/2 hour before other meals. If you don't suffer from indigestion, you do not have to worry and you can eat it at the same time as the rest of your meal. It is not magic, although it seems mysterious..it simply gives some people indigestion but others it doesn't.

Good morning everyone. I'm all ready to leave for the airport but have plenty of time. Wish me luck with my eating and walking while I'm there. Have some snacks packed.

gatorgal- good luck with the exercise and good for you for doing it.

Monet- That just goes to show you how bad you need to rest. Hope you got some and take it easy today. Heal fast dear lady.

momw3ds- Welcome aboard. You'll learn lots of things as you go from this board. I started in March and am still learning....

LKF- There you are. Missed your little messages girl friend...

Bob- Rest good you and skeeter....

gracious- Your walk in the woods sounds wonderful..

Raquel, Aleka, and Denise just a big howdy....

Sorry I'm out of here so fast, hope I didn't miss anyone. But of course my mind is busy thinking of the airport, trip etc. We have to drive 2 1/2 hours to the airport.... Its going to be a long day..

213/161/130 Hope that doesn't change much in a week...

Good Tuesday Morning Everyone:wave:

Finally able to get on here. Thought I had a meeting at the school today but just found out it's next Tuesday instead, so I have no excuse not to post.

I'm not walking today, which is my 5th day in a row of no exercise-sorta unheard of for me. I'm usually good about going, even when I don't want to but lately my sleeping habits, or lack thereof has been not even giving me the energy, or desire,to go out. BUT, with some cooler air coming in on Thursday I'll be ready to go after this small hiatus.

My eating all out sucked yesterday. I woke up pissed off, tired and I don't know what the heck else was running rampant in my brain and I just blew it. I have to stop this crap of being one day on and one day off, it's not only NOT good for me, my weight, my mental well being but it's not good for my body to keep going through this and wondering "what the heck are you doing to me lady?"

The night before I woke up at 3am and ELI wasn't home yet. Got out of bed to find Michael asleep on the futon in front of his computer, so got him up to go to his room, then went to get something to drink and heard ELI come in. Went back to bed, but not back to sleep. I can't seem to fall back to sleep once I'm up and the adrenalin is pumping. I think I finally fell back to sleep around 5:45, which is about 15 minutes before my alarm is set to go off, so I was pooped, and pissed. I had no energy to get up much less go walk and when my Monday, the start of the new week, starts off Sh:censored:ty it's just downhill from there on. Of course, it's not enough that this is happening, oh no:nono: I have to make things worse by getting on the scale only to see that I'm up 6lbs from my low of just the week before:eek: Well, I think that's the straw that broke the camels back for that hour and BOOM, it was even more downhill from there on. I just ate and ate and ate all day-all day long, all I ate was garbage, stuff I haven't eaten in 2 1/2 years-and not once, not a single bite, did I enjoy-it was more of a feeling of punishment. It was so bad that at the end of the night I actually got sick after eating ice cream. It say there in my stomach and I could just feel it and sure enough, it finally came up. Too bad the rest of the days indiscretions didn't!

I sometimes wonder if I should even tell you all this, that many of you may find that if I can stay on the wagon, so can you, but if I fall off the wagon, so can you and I toy with the idea of not saying anything sometimes, but I always end up telling you all-EVERYTHING! I just hate sounding discouraged and having this happen, esp. with newbies on the board as well as lurkers, but I guess I have to look beyond how it appears to be at the moment, at this time and look how far I've come in 2 1/2 years and with knowing that I WILL most definitely get over this hump and back on track and not give up and continue fighting this never-ending battle. I guess I have to think of all those who've started SB and then gave up, never to return and where they are probably now in their efforts to lose weight and think that even though I have these setbacks they aren't major and I'm still here and will get back to where I want to be. I don't ever want to discourage anyone with telling you all about my setbacks and hope that I don't do so in telling you all when I do have them because you surely know that's the last thing I'd ever want, but at the same time I can't ever tell you I'm eating OP if I'm not, I have to be honest and frank with you, the only way I know how to be. I told DENISE in an e-mail last week that I'm honest, sometimes too honest. I'll never lie to you guys, never have, never will, at least not on purpose!

So, last night, as I lie in bed after barfing and having the most sour stomach and feeling like a Mack truck not only ran me over but squished me flatter than any road kill I just told myself that today will be a better day and it will. I feel like it will, but then again, I thought it the other day as well. Though I have to say, I did stay OP for 2 days as I had said. For me, it's a 3 day affair, get through 3 days and you're well on your way. Just have to keep on after those 3 days. I am NOT going to step on the scale and I'm going to journal and just try to stay focused as best I can. What more can I do???

Okay, so now that I've spilled my guts I can move on...

Kids were off from school yesterday and with having the Dr. appt in the middle of the day, we really didn't do anything. Only had to take Michael to his guitar lesson at 4pm, but otherwise sat home (and ate).
Sunday ELI called me on my cell phone as we were going to p/u Michael's friend Vicki to say he could get out for a few hours from work. It was perfect timing since his SB is right around the corner from Vicki's, so I happily picked him up, got Vicki and we went up to Broward for lunch at OLE OLE, stopped at the HFS and went to the music store for Michael to look at some electric guitars they had on sale. Michael decided he wanted to have a electric guitar for Chanukah, so that's what he got along with an amp, as his early present. It's counting as more than 1 day, so basically, I really don't have to buy him anything else-makes it a lot easier this year! Lauren is the one I have to worry about finding things for!

Had a long telephone call with SOLSHINE on Sunday night! It was so good to talk to her, to hear her voice. I told her how we've missed her on the board. She's working ridiculous hours and with the new house and the new fur child, she's been so busy. BUT, the great news is, SHE WILL BE WITH US IN ORLANDO!!!! YIPPEEEE! Unfortunately, she won't be doing the marathon as a participant due to problems with her ankles, I believe she said, possibly having to have surgery, BUT, she will be there to cheer with everyone else and boy, that girl sure does know how to motivate runners!!! She's leaving for Dallas on Thursday for a meeting and wanted to know if anyone was in that area that wanted to meet for a few hours-is anyone near those parts? Anyhow, she hopes to get back on the board and soon!

Hoping to hear from all of those that had tornados in their state, just to check in-give us a holler and let us know all is a-okay! What terrible devistation went through so many states!

Before I forget...those of you are coming in to Orlando in Janaury, please e-mail me your STARBUCKS COFFEE REQUESTS when you can, with so many coming in, I have to start having ELI bring home backs now so I can have coffee for everyone. Just let me know if you like REG or DECAF and if you like something MILD, MEDIUM or BOLD in strength. I am going to be bringing beans, unless you request otherwise, as they keep longer and once you grind them you really shouldn't hold on to it too long before using it.

I don't see a link for the CHAT ROOM up yet, so I guess SUZANNE wasn't able to get the new chat room up and running yet. I'll see what I can find as an alternative and let you know if I come up with something before tonight's chat at 9:15pm est!!

CANDICE, the cheesecake recipe is DEB'S CRUSTLESS CHEESECAKE. If you can't find it on the SB RECIPE BOARDS then just let me know and I'll find it for you. It's a true winner! Okay, for SB, there are not many no-no'. Yes, they say to stay away from bananas, but you have to understand, what may bother one person may not bother another-an old member, BEACHFAN, ate bananas the entire time on SB and met her goal weight long ago. A couple things to know, first off, the riper the banana, the higher it's GI and secondly, the GI is just a tool and doesn't give the entire picture. When the GI of a food is determined it's done as if you are just eating that one food, where as, if you combined a high GI food along with a low GI food, you'll get a moderate GI of the two combined. I do count calories on SB and think it's a part of being successful on this plan, but others do just fine without doing so. Also, portion control and moderation is the key to any successful plan, I think. The idea of why you lose on this WOE is due to how the sugars effect you, the foods that are high on the GI. If you go to the RECOMMENDED READING BOARD we have, there's lots of informative information on there.

MONET, it's good to hear you are feeling better. Don't try to do too much too soon. I can't imagine another 4 weeks, but if that's what the Dr. ordered...maybe you can ask him if you can go back to your usual routines sooner, depending on how you feel. You surely don't want, or need, a relapse! I can easily eat the whole bag of popcorn, not a problem for me, but yet, a problem if I do. The BEARITOS brand is very good and I think lots better than having all that junk that's in other popcorn. You should be able to find it at your local HFS-just ask them.

ZANNE, good luck with the banana bread-I like that kind of stuff but don't dare to make one, I know what will happen to it! I too like bananas that aren't ripe, I won't eat them when they start to brown, I definitely like them with some green and when they are firm.

TONI, if you haven't left-HAVE A WONDERFUL TRIP! I think I too need to re-read my own MM that I posted yesterday!

COUNTRY, you're doing great with the walks-that's a good time, and as the weather gets cooler your times will probably get faster, at least that's what I'm hoping for myself down here. Glad to hear that the idea I threw your way helps, at least for the time being. If canned beans does it for you, go for them with gusto, it's a lot better alternative than eating other junk! Don't worry about the weight coming off slow. My last 10lbs took me from Feb to June to lose-it's better than it sliding off quickly, trust me on this one! I'm sure you'll be enjoying the pudding, don't think twice about it-literally, eat it that day and then just don't think about it again!!!

DENISE, wish I had been as good as you over the weekend-kudo's to you, wet noodle lashes to me! Is Gary also from upstate NY? My family is from Rochester, not too far from Buffalo. I love it up there in the summers and talk about garage sales-girl, they are the BEST up there! Good going at the Sunday dinner-you did wonderful! CONGRATS! Congrats on getting on the old pants too, it brought back vivid memories on how I use to get on my jeans (bunny hopping around the room) and then having to lie on the bed to tip them up. Unfortunately, I vividly remember having a spare tire after standing up once again-ahhh, to be young again-NO WAY!!!! LOL!! Sounds like you'll have your own home gym soon! Hope Gary is feeling better - a trip to OLE OLE should get him back to feeling better;) Sorry I called you last second on Sunday, usually I'm not like that, I like to plan ahead, but I figured I'd take a shot, just in case. We'll get together soon, I'm sure. Good luck at the OPEN HOUSE with Amber on Thursday, hopefully, you'll get a pleasant surprise with her report card. CONGRATS to your DM-please tell her that I said so! What a great time she does-I'm in awe!

TRISH, just remember...GO CANES!!!!!

FILLISE, see, when the shoe's on another foot...I'm sure you'll have a governor soon! Hey, any chance you'll be able to come in in January for the get together? MELF is flying in, FROG is driving in and MONET is driving in as well-would love for you to join us too! LMK!

MELF, I wish I knew what gets in to us. I can understand being on vacation, but not what I did, self-imposed digging of the grave. This is so unlike me. It's been 2 1/2 years, why now, the last 6 months am I having trouble, after being so OP for over 2 years, that one taste of sugar just put me in to a tailspin. Not that I haven't been able to get back on track, but it seems, should I try something off plan it just throws me so out of whack it doesn't seem I can get back on track for a while. Eventually I do, but after beating myself up. It's a no-win situation when we do this to ourselves. Don't worry, we'll both be fine, if not, we can kick each other's butts in Orlando!

MOM, http://members.aol.com/eldemila/sb_sign2.jpg
Here's my 2 cents on counting calories and SB. First, I think there's some conflicting info in the SB BOOK. They say to consumer approx. 30%/40%/30%-well, how the heck are you going to know if you are if you don't keep track somehow? Now, to the calories, my answer would be YES! If you do not take in enough calories, it's as bad is if you take in too many. I think not doing this, at least in the beginning until you can get a grip on portions, this is a good idea. Some people don't like counting and will incorporate the points from the WW plan into their SB WOE, which is a good idea. I personally like to journal and though it may seem like a pain at first, it becomes second nature after a while. The 1200 calories you've seen mentioned, that's the approx amount in the SAMPLE menus in the book, and again, those are somewhat contradictory as well, not once did I ever follow a single one of them. Keep asking questions, we love to help and it's the only way you'll learn. If you haven't read MICHAEL MONTIGNAC'S book, EAT YOURSELF SLIM, see if your library has a copy, I highly recommend reading it along with the SB BOOK.

ALEKA, portions can be a problem figuring out sometimes. Here's something I posted over the summer:

CARB-CURBING

If you're finding it tough to lose weight on a typical low-fat high-carb diet, don't cut out carbohydrates completely. First, go for high-fiber, high-nutrient complex carbs. Then make sure you have a handle on serving size.

For instance, one carbohydrate serving is 15 grams. So if you have a typical bakery bakels (about four servings of carbs) and a cup of raisin bran (three servings) for breakfast, you've already racked up seven servings. (To do the math yourself, find the Total Carbhdrate entry on a label, and divide by 15 for the number of carb servings.)

Also, be realistic about where you fall in the range of 6 to 11 servings recommended in the Food Guide Pyramid. Active people who exercse frquently have larger stoarge tanks in msucle cells for carbs than their inactive couterparts, so they can eat more carbs and are less liekly to put on weight. People who put in at least 3-4 30 minute workouts a week can usually eat 10-11 servings; less active people should restric their servings to the lower end of the spectrum.

I also had posted a while back a site that had recommended servings of foods. I thought it was great, so here you go, just click on the link below:

http://www.ma-wired.com/ntrition.html

Check them all out, but esp. the starchy carb page. On there, it has a potato as having a serving size of 3oz (doesn't specify a sweet potato though). Anyhow, many people say a serving is half a sweet potato-have you ever seen the differences in the sizes of potatoes! I definitely think that ounces are what one should go by, not size. Don't go by the menus in the book, as I mentioned above, it's very misleading and contridictory, not to mention, confusing. Fruit can be eaten with a meal if it doesn't bother you (gas wise, bloating, etc.). In Montignacs book he says berries can be eaten at any time, but other fruits are best eaten before or after. If you look on the FOOD INFORMATION BOARD I do believe the explanation is on there taken from his book. Keep asking those questions-it's the way you learn!

LKF, what kind of remodeling are you doing? Hope it's not too much of a mess for you!

RAQUEL, http://members.aol.com/eldemila/sb_sign4.jpg CONGRATS on your losses thus far and welcome to a great new WOE that will help you continue on down to your goal weight. I know others have answered your questions, so I'll just quickly throw in my 2cents worth.

CAMPBELLS, depends on the soup and what's in it...read the ingredients and the grams of sugar in a serving-together, they'll give you your answer.

MAYO, I use the Hellman's LF Mayo instead of the full because of the fat and extra calories. I hardly use mayo at all, not something I really like, but when I do, I opt for this brand of LF since it seems to be the one with the lowest sugar grams in it.

CANDY, I don't care what it is, unless you have been on SB for a while, I don't suggest you eat any type of sweets. The idea is to get the sugar out and while these candies have fake sugars, which your body surely doesn't need, the "sweet" taste stimulates you wanting more sweets-your body doesn't comprehend it's not "real" sugar. Best to detox from this stuff and when you are ready, eat what SB allows, high cocoa content chocolate-which is not filled with all those fake things and is truly delicious. Also, if this is a trigger food, another reason to stay far away from it.

SERVINGS, I think it depends on you and your current weight and goal weight. It's definitely different than Atkins and you may gain a few pounds as you allow carbs back in to your WOE if you haven't already, but many on this board will tell you you'll begin to lose after that happens if you do gain. I think portions depend on your current and goal weight. If you e-mail me with your stats, I'll give you my opinion. Debelli@AOL.com

CRACKERS, I found BARBARA'S WHEATINES are a good one as well as WHOLE FOODS brand of triscuit type crackers, but one thing you have to remember is PORTION CONTROL, you can't have many to make up just 1 of your 2-3 starchy carbs.

SERVINGS SIZES, see the link I posted above to ALEKA.

I didn't quite understand your question about the WW pasta.

Your menu thus far, depending on your stats, is hard to say. I think you have too many starchy carbs in there, the noodles in the soup are a no-no, they're white-the saltines are probably made with white flour, whole wheat chek squares??, whole wheat spgti-right there you have 4 different starchy carbs.

I can sypathize with you on what you posted about your children. My DD is overweight and following right along in my footsteps. Being an overweight child myself I know understand what my DM went through and the pressure she had from others in regards to my weight. It's a Catch 22 situation. You're damned if you say something and you're damned if you don't.

GRACIOUS, we spoke to family in Montreal and they were telling us just how beautiful it was up there yesterday-sounds like you too are having nice weather. Hope it lasts!

Okay guys, it's 10am-I've been on here for almost 2 1/2 hours. Hope I didn't miss anyone, if so, it's truly not intentional!

I have a few errands to run today, so I better get a move on. Will check in later and give you an update on how I'm progressing. I'm taking it one hour at a time. So far, I've had an Asian pear to eat, going to go make some chicken salad for lunch, either that or a tuna pita melt-haven't had one in quite a while.

Wahoo on staying on plan at dinner with the family!! It absolutely boggles my mind about the amount of potatoes people consume. I never noticed before but most meals, especially if your eating out, comes with a freaking potato! I really don't miss them which is weird considering how much I used to eat them.
Congrats to your mom too!!

momw3ds
Welcome to the group!
I personally don't count calories. I think that if you stick to plan your eating a healthy balanced diet. I suppose the closer you get to goal the slower the weight loss so the counting calories might help then?

raquel
Welcome! wanted to comment on your menu and share my experiences with starting SB.
I did not focus on portion size or how much I ate in one day. I focused totally on eating legal SB foods. I probably over-ate but I was legal. It kept me motivated because I was not hungry. I ate 2 cases of Clemintine oranges in a month, most likely to replace all the sugar I cut out.
I ate loads of cheese and rye Triskets. Lots of fruit.
Try to stay away from a lot of canned or prepared foods. Lot's of hidden sugar there!
I also ate a lot of cheese. For those who counted calories and fat grams dairy is a no-no. But it's great
on SB!
Look for Agave Nectar at your health food store in the sugar section. This stuff is awesome. It's expensive but worth it. Makes my coffee taste like I have real sugar in it.

Gracious, thanks a million for reminding me about the oatmeal! I don't know what I was thinking! I don't get the 5-minute oatmeal but rather the Old-Fashioned, so I must have been brain dead when I was talking about the 5-minute kind. Oh, and thanks for missing me! I missed you, too!

Toni, thanks to you, too, for missing me. I sure missed being with y'all those few days. For anyone considering remodeling their home, think twice! What a mess! We are doing the kitchen and bathroom at the same time and it is really unsettling while you are going through it...but then, the results are sure fun!

Debelli, I am so sorry you are going through a rough time with eating junk. Maybe today is truly going better for you already. I sure hope so! And remember, if you can't talk to us about your eating downfalls, who can you talk to? Besides, they help us, too, because you always feel like crap when you do it (for which I am sorry but it teaches us something nonetheless!). You teach us, as our leader, that you are human, too, and will eat food off program at times, and then rush right back to eating right -- mostly because you feel so much better when you do! The thing you need to remember, Debbie, is that you ARE generally in your "goal" area and should be able to goof off occasionally, if you can do it and not feel so bad. I have noticed, though, that you seem to spend more than a meal or two goofing off and that's what makes you feel so bad, don't you think?

You are an inspiration to us all, Debbie, so don't get discouraged. Anyone who can lose all their weight on this wonderful WOE and keep it off as long as you have, well, that's pure poetry! You should be able to eat off program now...just not often and not for long. Quite frankly, I get sick every time I eat ANYTHING that is not strictly on program AND I LOVE IT!!! That makes you think twice before you do something stupid and I hope I stay that way the rest of my life!

We love you, Debbie, and thanks for all you mean to us!

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Deb - Thank you so much for your post. For me, the ability to be honest here is due primarily to you. We know that we are all human but sometimes we all need that reassurance. If I thought that no one (including you) fell off the wagon, so to speak, then I would never be able to be honest on this board. And if that's the case, what's the point??? Your being perfect or not is not what helps us, it's that you're here, you're supportive, and that we're all in this together. So there, I'm off my soapbox, now.

I would also like to second what you said about the SF chocolates. I have a found a good 70% chocolate that I eat when I just need a piece of chocolate. I know you disagree with eating that until you get to or close to goal, but I know you also agree that we're all different. Anyway...I can eat 1 square of that and feel satisfied and like I've had a really decadent treat. On the other hand, I would eat a whole bag of the Russell Stover SF chocolates and then really pay for it later.

The weather is still gorgeous here, although it was a little nippy when I was walking last night.

Denise - congrats to your mom! That is so awesome. Way to go on doing your workout. I went to Curves last night and it was great. I only went twice last week and I could sure feel it.

Monet - Shame on you! Slow down girl, or you're going to be right back where you were.

Raquel - I agree with Deb about the starch carbs, they really slow down my weight loss and it looks to me like you're not getting enough veggies. Add a salad with the lunch and maybe some green beans or something with your spaghetti then cut back on the amount of pasta. Also lots and lots of water!

Gracious - Sounds like you had a lovely day.

BOB - Way to go girl!!

LKF - Welcome back! We sure missed you while you were gone.

Well, I'm sure I missed something or someone, but I've got to get back to work. Talk to you guys later.

Trish

Morning everyone! It is nice to be able to get back to the board regularly.

I had a great OP day yesterday and so far so good on today--of course today is only a few hours old! :o

Welcome to all the new folks! It takes a few weeks to get really comfortable with this WOE (way of eating). You find yourself reading a lot of labels to begin with, but after a while you know what is OK and what isn't. I think it helps (especially in the beginning) not to worry so much about grams of fats or carbs--but just to follow the directions in the SB book---less than 3 grams of sugar per serving, stay away from high glycemic foods, and eat reasonable portions. You'll do fine!

LKF--I'm putting oatmeal on my shopping list for today--now that it is cool in the morning a bowl of oatmeal with a touch of agave and cinammon would be an excellent way to start the morning!

BOB--6 lbs!!!!! WOOOOHOOOOO! You go girl! How much is that altogether?

Cherlyco--I don't count calories either. I find that I do the best when I just eat low glycemic and stay away from the rest and not worry about calories or grams!

Deb--Sorry to hear that you are having such a rough time. I've been there myself for the last few weeks. Now that I have some time again, I'm trying to do a much better job of planning. One thing occurs to me--you used to do a lot of SB baking and I haven't heard you talking about it for a while. I know you stopped for a while, but maybe if you went back to the SB legal treats you wouldn't want to go overboard on the really really bad stuff. Maybe you should start making the cheesecake and the spongecakes again and see what happens!

Gracious--it sounds like you had a great hike yesterday! We are still swimming down here. On the news they said we had almost 4 inches of rain the last 36 hours.

Monet--get back to bed!!!!!!!

Gator--We need all the help we can get this week! Of course Auburn always seems to have UGA's number, so let's hope it hold true this Saturday--maybe we will get to meet again in Atlanta!

Time to get to work--actually to clean house. My house has been very neglected over the last couple of weeks, so it is time to start shoveling out!

Thank you all for your warm welcome and answering my question about fruit.

Debelli, about the sweet potato, WW portion size is 8 oz. cooked. I usually bake it, then weigh it on the scale until I get the 8 oz. I know, some of the sweet potatoes are huge. I usually get about 2 meal out of a BIG one. I will definitely go into that site you posted, and I copied & pasted the CARB-CURBING. We all tend to fall off the wagon, don't worry about it discouraging any newbies.

BOB, that's fantastic 6 lb. :bravo: Is that a typical week for you? If not, what is a typical week? I had my weigh in today, and it was only .2 lb. It wasn't a very good week for me, but I'm vowing to do better this week. I see that you are in Sarasota, FL. My late aunt lived in Venice and I've been there numerous times. I love that area. My IL's winter in Ft Myers, so we go down there for a couple of weeks in Feb./Mar. We always visit the Venice area, and our favorite spot is the Nokomis Jetties. We sit there and watch all the comings and goings.

LFK, thanks for answering my questions about the oatmeal & cereal portions. I wasn't sure which way to go with the fruit, because that 1/2 hr. between fruit & cereal I can get my workout out of the way.

A big Howdy to everyone , I am sure as the weeks go on I will get to know you all. Take care. Aleka

Thought I'd get in a quick post...

So far, so good, already Noon and I haven't screwed the day up (notice, I didn't say yet??). Here's what I've eaten thus far...

6.6oz Asian Pear
4oz cooked salmon
.2oz pine nuts
2.5oz mixed baby salad greens
1/2oz feta cheese
1/2oz salad dressing

that's all. Will go get some milk later and make a "milkshake". I haven't had one in weeks! Probably have chicken for din-din. Veggies are always a problem with me to eat but will try somehow to incorporate some for dinner.

BOB, you go girl! CONGRATS! What's the grand total now???

LKF, you had me laughing, it's so true, I do feel like crap when I eat crap! Each time I start eating junk my skin itches, you think that alone would deter me, not to mention the other things it seems to wreck havoc on me! Yes, I do have trouble with just cheating for a meal, I've always said in the past that I'm the kind of person that just keeps running in the wrong direction once I cheat, until I hit that "brick wall" which usually knocks some kind of sense back in to me. I may have conquered my weight loss in some ways but I have not won the war and will continually have to be careful. I've always said that this is a learning proces and I'm continuing to learn each and every day, not only about SB, eating, weight loss-but about myself. I know what my downfalls are and what gets me in to trouble I just have to find a way that I can deal with them effectively. Thanks for all the kind words-you truly can make a person feel better:D

TRISH, loved the possibility you may be able to come in January-I'm crossing my fingers!!! Thanks for getting on the soapbox and saying what you did, it means a lot to me, and it's helpful to me as well. Which chocolate did you find that you like that's 70%? I think it's great that you can have the one piece and then stop, it's funny, I can do the same the majority of the time-you'd die laughing if you saw my stash of chocolate-one day, I'm going to take a picture! You do what you find is right for you-and if this works, that's wonderful!!!!! Enjoy each and every second that chocolate's in your mouth. I use to hate dark chocolate and now I love it, the higher the cocoa content, the better! I love the 85% Lindt they have out now. I don't usually buy anything that's less than 70% anymore.

FILLISE, you're right, I haven't been baking-too afraid to do it, though I have to say I will be baking a pumpkin pie to take for Thanksgiving that's not only SB LEGAL, but delicious-probably the cheesecake as well, so I'll resume my baking the day before, but probably not to keep doing it. I seem to go overboard with that stuff too, too dangerour for me to keep around. The way I haven't been baking, I think my stash of agave will last me 10 years! I think or now, better steer clear of the stuff-2 more weeks and I'll be chowing down some SB LEGAL YUMMIES! I'm hoping to be 100% OP til that day! Kudos to you for being back on track, I'm looking for you to lead the way!

ALEKA, WOW, WW allows that much sweet potato? Seems like a lot. How many points does that cost you? Oh, don't you worry, you'll be feeling like you've been with us forever soon;) Hey, I see you come down after the NY, you'll have to let us know if you do, RED1 is coming to BOB'S area in March, I believe and I am going to try and plan on coming there to meet her, so let us know!

Okay, I said I was going earlier and I didn't, now I have no choice, I have to go to the bank and transfer some funds to pay my MC bill that's due tomorrow. Library is on the agenda, books/tapes due, drop off MC payment so it's not late and then go get the kids.

Oh, I e-mailed SUZANNE about the chat room, haven't heard back anything yet, will let you know when I do.

Toodles

We're so glad to have your several new members with us! Aleka, you can see already that we all have slightly different opinions that work for us...you'll have to see what works for you. Like the fruit thing -- some don't have a problem with eating fruit with a meal and some do. I think it is a digestion thing and it has helped me to avoid fruit for the meal and to have it between meals but experiment and see what best suits you.

Fillise, good idea to go get some oatmeal! The weather is going to get colder and colder so stock up! It will warm your tummy on those cold days.

How about the crazy weather we've been having here in Alabama?! I'm O.K. but lots of folks suffered a great deal of damage. I read an e-mail from a local weather man who has been on the job for many years and he said he could not remember a day when tornado warnings started in Mississippi and extended through the entire state of Alabama to the Georgia border, enveloping all of Alabama! Sunday was really a rough night! Please pray for the families of the 12 who were killed in Alabama Sunday night.

Trish, thanks for the welcome back! I am so glad to be back and missed you, too!

BOB, congrats on the 6-lb weight loss!!! Wow! You have really done well and we are all so proud of you! Are you still going to the WW weekly meetings? Does that help even though you aren't following their plan? Y'all are MY weekly meeting and I get to spend time with you whenever I want to!

Debbie, I'm glad you are having a successful day today! Hang in there, girl! We're right in there with you and want to help you through to the other side! Looks to me like you're already there!

Just a quick note before I serve the kids lunch and get to coupon clipping. Can't beat this time of year for bargins. They triple at Krogers here. Gotta love this weather. Felt like a good day to make soup....and boy is it good. One of my wacky combos..cabbage....okra...mushrooms in a tomato base with a tad of ground beef, onions and a chiptole pepper. A little wostershire thrown in to balance out the flavor. :) One good thing about my wacky soups.......you wee wee for dasy..LOL help for WW...LOL

WTG Bob!!!! 6 pounds is awesome!

Alkea...welcome again. I hope you feel like part of the family. These guys are the BEST.

Deb....I appeciate you being honest about your struggles. It truly helps me know that I am not alone. That the ups and downs are universal. It also helps make others aware of the pitfalls and maybe avoid them. The other day when the weight was temporarily up......man I wanted sooooo bad to just stuff my face. But I remembered the last time you talked about when you did that....and it truthfully made me stop...step back and re-evaluate the situation. Good news is...I didn't stuff the face and the extra pounds came off. So see...your honesty is a good thing. I wish that you didn't have to go through the struggles...but I'm glad we can learn from them. Congrates on getting back on track! Your ability to measure and be so faithful is awsome. Now if some of that would just rub off on me.:)

I was gonna type some more to ya'll but the crew is just short of mutiny..they want lunch...kids..:)

Enjoy your day...and where parts of it might be rough I'm praying God smooth it out for ya.

My grand total for 6 wks is 16.8 lbs....NOW...if I hadn't gained those two times I would be a little over 20lbs for 6 wks...BUT if I was dwelling on WHAT IF'S....I would still be 16 lbs heavier!

Hi all,

After not exercising all last week due to my many illnesses at the time, I finally had my first workout last night and it took every ounce of energy to get through it. Ugh! Tonight, I'm going to do some easy Rollerblading for about an hour. Below is the chicken I made this week. It came out VERY tasty and thought I would share it. (I actually cut up the chicken breasts into thinner slices since I don't like big chunks of chicken personally) Also, someone was looking for Debs Crustless Cheesecake so I've included that too.

Cheesey Onion Baked Chicken

1/2 cup grated Parmesan Cheese
1 package dry Onion Soup Mix
1/3 C. mayonnaise
6 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

Combine cheese and soup mix in a Ziplock bag.

Brush chicken on all sides with mayonnaise thinned with a little water.

Place chicken, 1 piece at a time, in a ziplock bag; close bag & shake to
coat.

Arrange on a rack in broiler pan or baking pan.

Bake at 375º for 25-30 minutes or until chicken is tender and juices run
clear.

Serves 6.

DEBS CRUSTLESS CHEESECAKE

2 packages Philadelphia Brand 1/3 Less Fat Cream Cheese
1/2 cup agave syrup, (you can actually use 1-2tbl less)
3 eggs
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp lemon juice

Spray a 7" cake pan with cooking spray. Cut a circular piece of parchment paper
to fit in the bottom of the pan. Spray the top of the paper.

Bring cream cheese to room temperature in a medium size bowl. Cream with a
mixer. Add the agave syrup and mix on low speed, just til blended. Add both the
vanilla and lemon juice and blend in. Add one egg at a time, beating on low
stpeed til mixed in before adding the next one.

Pour mixture into pan and put in a 325 degree preheated oven. Place cheesecake in oven and bake for approx 40 minutes, or until lightly browned on top and it looks set. Remove from oven and let cool for about 30-45 minutes. Place in fridge for at least 3 hours. I invert my cake over a plate and tap the bottom of the pan with a knife to get it to come out, nice and clean. Peel off the parchment paper and then turn it back the right way on a serving dish. You can also serve it right out of the pan, just don't eat the parchment paper!!! ENJOY!
NOTE: You could most likely use a small springform pan, like a 7 1/2" one if they have that size, but I don't have one at this time, so used what I had available, a small cake pan. I also put a pan of water on the rack underneath to help it from cracking, which it never did-not sure if this helped, or not
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Raquel: Welcome, I'm fairly new too. It seems that Monet and others answered your questions pretty good. I saw your menu and I would add more veggies/salads. Eat more protein and less of the starchy carbs.

Crystle: I've been to Lake Livingston to fish on a boat a couple of times, many, many years ago. I remember the lake had lots of stumps and sticks...(I remember we had to be careful with the boat) I love that area!!! It is really beautiful. You are very lucky.

Monet: Stop cooking and get your butt back in bed!

Gracious: Your hike through the woods sounds sooooo nice.

Toni: Good luck on your trip. Talk to you soon when you return.

Debbie: Gosh, I'm soooooooo sorry to hear about your sleeping and eating problems! We all have our ups and downs and I for one appreciate your candid honesty and integrity. It says a lot about a person. For me, eating off plan is how I hurt myself when I feel like hurting myself since I don't want to smoke. For example, I will binge on junk if my self-esteem is low or I'm so depressed, I feel like hurting myself. I know it sounds weird, but that's what makes me binge. Once my self-esteem is better and my mental state is more positive, that is when I take care of myself. (My ex-husband verbally and physically abused me several years ago, but that abuse has affected my self-esteem to this day) Some days I feel good about myself, other days not so good about myself. I have to work on my self-worth everyday or I'll start believing I'm not good enough, etc. When I have a low self-esteem, I go into depression. When I'm depressed, I eat junk...Anyhow, I'm not saying that this is you too, just psycho-analyzing why I do it... Maybe there are underlying problems (i.e. depression, etc. that may be causing you to binge on junk food) That's all I'm trying to say! As far as your sleeping problem goes, you may have some anxiety over situations happening in your life. I can give you some Klonipans (an anti-anxiety medication) if you want to try those. You will sleep for days on that stuff! Just let me know...Don't worry, you will feel better once you start being good to yourself and the 6 pounds will come off especially once you start running again. OH, and yes, Gary is from Buffalo, NY too. Call me if you need some local support ANYTIME! I can also meet you somewhere to give you some Klonipans if you want to try to see if that will help your sleeping problems. Take care and thinking of you....

Bob: Congrats on losing 6 lbs. I guess you gave those to Debbie! LOL!!

Thanks everyone who congratulated my Mom on her 1/2 marathon. She's pretty cool to have for a my Mom. Now, it's Disney for her...

Take care and I'm going to try and get some work done today.

Debbie: My Mom sent the following e-mail re: her 1/2 marathon:

Tell Debbie I appreciate her comments. It is always fun to hear something encouraging. I was still a bit sore in the quads this morning, but I ran my usual 5 miles and the muscles felt better afterwards. The timing results from Sunday's race were posted this morning so I ran a copy. There were only 405 finishers. Only one other woman in my age group has a posted time...it was 3:00:00. I saw one other friend of mine who is in my group, but she must have been too late to have a time posted. I feel bad for her...hope she at least got the finisher's medal. I was #353 out of 405...and it was a fairly fast group of young runners. As there was only one other woman in my group, that means that all of the other 51 people that I was ahead of were younger than I am! I was ahead of 31 women and 21 men. (Overall, there were 40 more men than women who finished.) It is interesting to analyze the results...

(The above paragraph is from my Mom) She is 63 years old.

I know that there are a lot of you that have been combining strength training with cardio. I have really just started strength training. For those of you that do both, how many days a week do you do each one.

Thanks,
Trish

Denise1963

Trish: I combine cardio and strength training twice a week right now.

My goal: Mon: Cardio/Sculpt (The Firm) 55 min.
Tues: Cardio only (30-60 min)
Wed: Cardio/Sculpt (The Firm) 55 min.
Thurs: Cardio only (30-60 min)
Fri: Body Sculpt (30 min)
Sat: Cardio only (30-60 min)
Sun: Rest

(Sculpting is the weight training) The Firm's Cardio/Sculpt with the Fanny Firmer is the toughest workout I've seen in a long time. This is why, I can only do that twice a week right now. I use 10 lb, 8 lb, and 5 lb dumbbells for the Cardio/Sculpt training.

EVENING EVERY BUDDY!!!

For those who asked...I go to WW's ONLY to weigh in..I don't stay for the meetings...I don't follow their plan, I don't count points. I am on the same wave length as SUSAN ..I don't count calories and watch what I eat.
I had a tough time loosing the last two years. I would lose about 10lbs and that would be it. Don't ask me what happened, I don't care...it's working now and I'm sticking to what I'm doing! ;)
I eat a lot of protein...more red meat than anything else. green veggies are not a problem for me..I love them all! I eat VERY LITTLE bread anymore...that used to be a downfall for me...I could easily eat a whole loaf a day as long as I had some cheese to go along with it!
ALEKA...no, this isn't a typical week for me..but on my good loss weeks, I haven't lost under 5lbs at a time. On two occassions, I gained 3.5 and 1.5...I know what I didn't wrong on both weeks and have tried to stay away from those bad things!

I'm off to feed the four legged fur baby...

MONET....GET BACK TO BED!!!!

I'll be back later...

BOB: Ok, ok! I will get back in bed, but I am eating dinner first! (mutinous set to my mouth) Way to go on the six pound loss! Hooray!

TRISH: When I am able to do cardio and weight training, I alternate days. On Monday, weights, Tuesday, cardio, Wednesday, weights, Thursday, cardio, Friday weights, Saturday, cardio. For the weights, I alternate upper and lower body workouts. You get faster, better results if you do not over do it with the weights. Your muscles need time inbetween workouts to heal. A great program to look at is Body For Life by Bill Phillips. Check it out of your library. He is really inspiring!

DEB: Keep being honest. Doesn't it help to get you back on track when you think about having to admit your foibles? It sometimes helps me if I know I am going to have to confess! :)

Ok..dinner is ready. I am going to try and catch chat tonight!

Evening All:wave:

Thought I'd get in a post before I go make some dinner. So far, so good today. Here's a continuation of my daily menu from where I left off...

5.8oz raspberries
1 c Lactaid NF Milk
1 tsp carob
6oz pear
4oz cottage cheese
14.2oz cooked yellow summer squash

Dinner will be some chicken, maybe a salad if I feel like it. I am going to try and call it a day after that. Will figure everything out before I do just to make sure I've eaten enough, but before the chicken I've already consumer 890 calories so far today-not bad!!!

LKF, the day continues to go well, thanks!:D I need you to e-mail me your e-mail address again, please.

COUNTRY, no one even doubles coupons down my way. My parent's were in 7th heaven:cloud9: in NC with all the tripling and doubling of coupons there. Geez, don't I wish I could learn from my own mistakes like you have-I hope one day I will. Rome wasn't built in a day!;)

BOB, you've got it girl, we can't live by what if's! Saw a TENN VOLS bumper sticker down here today-thought of you:^:

DENISE, thanks for digging out the cheesecake recipe! Your chicken recipe sounds delish, though I'm not sure about the onion soup mix-it doesn't have sugar, or a form thereof? Probably falls under the 3gram rule if it does. As for my eating, I use to be an emotional eater but for the most part, I don't find that happening like it use to, thank goodness. No, I think that once that sugar hits my body that it's just hard to stop wanting more, it's like crack or cocaine to a junkie I thihnk, just my drug of choice would be SWEETS! I don't like when a monkey wrench is thrown in to my day and that's what happened on Monday. My sleeping is partly due to ELI and the kids. If I wake up and I don't feel him with my radar (my foot) I wake up and then the mind goes, the adrenaline flows and I can't get back to bed. Many times I go to bed before the kids and Michael usually leaves on a light or falls asleep with the lights on, if I wake up and see that, I can't go back to bed, I get up and then I still can't go back to sleep. Luckily, it doesn't happen that much, though lately it's been happening a lot, so I'm hoping it won't continue much longer. Nope, not depressed, though it sure doesn't help when the weight is up!!!! Hey, we're going to have to set a day to meet soon - maybe your DM will join us too? Talk to you soon:)

MONET, yes, I do think it helps me get back on track when I tell all:)

TRANQUIL, see you at chat tonight! Keep up the great work!!!!

See you guys at chat tonight!!!

Trish--I do two days of weight lifting--on Nautilus and MedX machines and some free weights. Then I do about 4 days of cardio. Usually walking 3 miles at a moderately brisk pace. Today I played 9 holes of golf and walked and pulled my cart. I counted that as one day of cardio.

Fillise--Yes, it would be fun to meet in Atlanta. The Gators just lost a top player to injury, and they have been playing so crummy that I don't think we will make it to Atlanta, even if y'all beat UGhA. We barely squeeked by the Commodores, and the Gamecocks may just put Zook out of his misery.

Way to go, BOB.

Good WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY MORNING!

Hope the scales are kind to you all. I'm not subjecting myself to mine today, I'm taking a hiatus for a while.

For those of you who tried to get in the chat room, I'm sorry for any problems you had getting in there, or should I say, not being able to get in. There was a problem with the entire site, not just the chat room. MONET and I were the only ones able to get in there though I know TRANQUIL & DENISE tried. I'm hoping SUZANNE gets these outages taken care of soon, they seem to never be at a good time.

My day ended up being a perfect SB DAY. I ended my night having chicken breast and a few Kosher pork rinds and a soda, that was it for the evening and off to bed I went.

ELI is off today, so off to Broward we go to spend the day together and of course, lunch at OLEOLE:D It will be another good day eating, that I am sure.

Will check in when I get home, have a wonderful day everyone!

Debelli, the 8 oz. of sweet potato is 3 pts. How many oz. should I be eating on SB? Thank you for the invite in March. I will let you all know if/when we'll be heading to FL. I hope we can get down there this winter. I need a break from all the snow, ice, & freezing temps!

Tranquil, sorry you aren't feeling well. I hope you're better soon.

Denise, thank you for the recipes. I copied & pasted them to have on hand. They look delicious.

Last night for supper I hope it was a SB meal. I had 1 cup of Vita-Spelt pasta, 3 turkey meatballs (no sugar added), and 1/2 cup no added sugar (3 gm. sugar on label) pasta sauce. I know you don't count carbs on this WOE, but was that too many carbs?

A big HI to everyone

WOO HOO! Monet is a happy camper this morning! I got on the scale for WIW, figuring it would not be all that great, and I have dropped four of the pounds I gained back! That is 11 pounds since I was put in the hospital 2.5 weeks ago! I think the prescription I started taking again on Monday, in a stronger dose than before, is helping!

Just breezing through...gonna go get some breakfast, and make a pot of coffee. I spent a lot of time reading in bed yesterday. Today, I have a friend coming over to visit, and will lay on the sofa propped up in pillows and gossip all day.

Have a great day everyone!

TRANQUIL: Hope you feel better!

DEB: Way to go on staying OP! What an inspiration you are! Thanks!

WIW...I am on Day 2 of TOM and not thrilled with my weigh in so I will forego it today. :) Yesterday was not a stellar day for eating either because I ate some things to take medication. I went on a walk with my son to a friend's house but when I was there a got a killer migraine and had to get a ride home. I ended up taking pain medication that hubby had in the cupboard for kidney stones! It was great and knocked me right out and I was better in the evening. I don't usually get migraines so for the people out there that do, I truly sympathize. I wanted someone to cut my head off!

My kids got their report cards yesterday and both of them got 98% averages. *proud Mom*

BOB- You are doing so awesome!!!

MONET- Great to hear those lbs came off and you are back to an 11 lb loss!

TRANQUIL- Just saying hello to you.

I gotta get moving here today and make up for my day yesterday. The housework is calling very loudly! Have a great WIW!

Debbie, congratulations on ending the day yesterday as a perfect SB day! You're back on track now! Once again, you have shown us the way -- if you have to eat some stuff that you know is not SB legal, you do it and get right back to the program! That's the way to do it!

Monet, CONGRATULATIONS on the 4-pound weight loss!!! We're all so proud of you!!! Pretty soon, that set-back will be behind you! Doesn't it feel good?

Aleka, your dinner last night sounds fine. As long as you are eating the right kind of carbs, you don't have to worry. You had your starchy carb with the pasta and the protein and sauce were fine to have with it. Way to go! You're doing fine!!! You're gunna love this plan and feel like a million dollars!

Gracious, I am so sorry about the migraine you got. Hope you are feeling great today!

Waiting for the old fart to get out of the bathroom so I can go take a shower and get ready.

I didn't walk today and luckily had good reason, besides the fact I was tired, it was terribly foggy down here and then it started to rain. We have a cold front trying to push through today. Very windy here, they say about 42,000 people without power in Dade and Broward, though most are in Broward. As long as it doesn't effect OLE OLE, we'll be okay!

TRISH, I enjoyed our talk last night! Your voice is so vivacious and so is your laugh. I'm hoping you can come in January and continue to keep the old fingers crossed!

ALEKA, I think the 3oz of sweet potato would count as one of your starchy carbs and you want to keep those down to 2-3 a day. An 8oz sp would basically use up your starchy carbs for the day. I actually had a site on my old computer that said 2oz was a serving! Your dinner sounds fine, but where's the fiber. If you are going to do the SB WOE you have to try to get away from the carb mentality. Carbs from sources that aren't starchy really shouldn't be a big concern. As long as you try to get approx 40% of your intake from carbs as SB suggests and keep the starchies to 2-3, you'll do fine.

MONET, CONGRATS! That's wonderful news on our loss this week. Keep up the great work, just don't keep it going by getting sick, so rest up girlfriend!

GRACIOUS, sorry to hear about your headache, I hate when I get those! I'm with you-off the scales I stay!!!! Why torture ourselves if we know it's a "given".

LKF, got your e-mail and added you back on my e-mail list for the board, thanks! No kudos for me as of yet, I just got through the first day, not until I've completed 3 successful days and am on the 4th will I feel better and more confident. I just want to stay OP at least til Thanksgiving. The only thing I know that I am going to eat that's off plan that day are cookies Lauren makes-I just can't resist, otherwise, everything else will be OP.

Gotta run!!

Later guys!

You are so right about junk food! Couple days ago I had a handful of M&M's, why? Don't know.
That night woke up at 3AM with heartburn.
Next day did it again! DUH!
Next day when I reached for them the smarts kicked in and said "Do you want the heartburn again??"
I passed.

My weight loss is slow, 1 to 2 pounds a week. I am not gung ho-exercise till you drop--have to lose 50 pounds in the next 6 months if you know what I mean. I'm in this for the long run. I have health issues so it's difficult for me to exercise otherwise I probably would be at the gym everyday. But then I'd burn myself out like I've done before. So stick with it and it will come off when you least expect it!

Monet
Congrats on the loss! I had a lazy day yesterday too. Nothing like rain, a good book and everyone out of the house all day!!

You should be proud of the kids grades! I'm sure lots of nagging about schoolwork went into them LOL

I found a book called Sugar Blues by William Duffy. It was written in 1975. I found it in a used book store for 1.50. Amazon is selling it new for 6.50. Anyway, I'm halfway through it and it's a really interesting read. It's the history of sugar and it's really quit fascinating.

I'm at 205 still haven't lost my 1 or 2 pounds this week... yet

Better day today then yesterday. South Florida had a horrible auto accident on I-95 yesterday. 2 gas tanker trucks collided and exploded and fell on a taxi. The 5 people in the taxi died at the scene when it burst into flames. There were 2 couples(tourists) in the taxi on their way to Fort Laud airport after they just got off a cruise. It was truly a sad day yesterday.:(
It happened about an hour after I got to work and it makes you wonder..That could of been me! It always makes me appreciate another day of life here in this world. Therefore, today I am grateful to be living...Okay onto lighter news...

Windy, rainy day today, BUT cold front is on it's way! Yea! :)

Last night, I rollerbladed about 9 miles. It took me about an hour and 15 minutes, so it was a good workout. Nice to get outside and get some fresh, muggy, humid air!

Congrats to Robin, Monet, and Bob on their weightloss this week!
I'll be weighing in on Friday to see if I'm still maintaining.

Debbie: Glad to hear that you do not have the eating and anxiety problems that plague me. Yes, I agree, sugar is as addicting as cocaine. That is the best analogy I've seen pertaining to sugar. I will be thinking of you today at Ole Ole, lucky you!

Hope everyone has a great day today! Enjoy Life, it's too precious to take for granted!

Been a REALLY BUSY 2 weeks for me (which isn't that I'm doing much just can't seem to have a few hours to rest until it's time to go to bed in between dr. appts, church, and dr. appts), I can't wait for a slow down, I thought it would be today, but DH is off so that means I won't have any down time. Tomorrow I go to work for a farewell party as I get medically seperated from my job next week. Hopefully I can get on with you girls and truly play catch up as I only have breezed through your posts this morning. I'm up back to 167.5 which is 1.5 up from last week. Did a little grocery shopping and at the least I have some good protiens and Eziekiel Bran bread to help get me back on track a little better. I've just been in a hum ho arena, as the budget hasn't allowed grocery shopping in awhile and I eat what we have. I got an email though that I think would be a good one for all of us emotional eaters to reflect on:

Nov 11. Today's thought is:
With abstinence, we feel both joy and sorrow more acutely.

We can dull our feelings by overeating and numb them by undereating. Both are ways in which we anesthetize our emotions. Most of us would probably rather not feel pain, but the price of shutting down our feelings is high, since we miss having delightful feelings as well as unpleasant ones. Many of us were so accustomed to concealing our emotions that we weren't sure what it was we were feeling or if we were feeling anything at all!

Once we are eating normally, we begin to experience more deeply how it feels to be angry or sad or afraid. We develop a greater capacity to feel joy and happiness. We find we can ride out emotional ups and downs and learn from them. It is as though we are waking up to a full range of emotions, which are ours to feel and express.

Today, I will not hide from my emotions — they are part of me.

Deb I hope you are feeling better all around. We will all fall, but we all have the opportunity to get right back up. You've always taught this and thank you most of all for being willing to be 100% honest. This makes you a great person and leader.

Monet, Hope you are feeling better.

Bob, GREAT JOB!

To the rest, I'm thinking of you and will see you all very soon!

Hey Gang

Well WIW has me up from last week's low. Oh well! I'm at 167.5, which is 1.5 more than last week. I knew I'd be up but I'm glad it's not that much:)

I don't know what's been wrong with me, but I've still been eating those darn chips! I eat well all day long and then just start munching away. I'm paying for it now. Not only is the scale up, the tape measurements are bigger all over AND I have ugly zits on my face:o 38 years old with pimples. Not pretty. I made those legal chex mix things and haven't touched those. I seem to want the "potato" stuff.

So ya know what? All the chips are gone and I'm not buying any more. DH can learn how to pop popcorn or buy his own chips.

I also had a realization smack me upside the head yesterday. Christmas is only 6 weeks from today!!!!!!:yikes: Now, we're having a big family Christmas with everyone from my dad's side, so I want to have some inches gone by then! I got out a notebook for a journal and put in all my measurements and weight. I'll record those every week. I just have to stay away from the munchie monster any way I LEGALLY can:ziplip: :tape:

So far today has been great! I've eaten OP, I've had a great walk. Tonight I go swimming. Yeah me! I have to keep up with the exercise. I've noticed my knees "clicking" more and my hips are starting to ache (adding some inches ain't helping either!). I know that the more I exercise, the less my joints act up. I'm actually in a good mood and may even get on the elliptical today too!

SUSANNE IS ON A MISSION!!!

A mission to get healthier and shapelier (is that a word?)

WELCOME-- to all the new people on board! Glad to have you! Keep asking your questions and you'll get an answer. This is a great bunch of supportive people.

DEBBELLI--Thanks for your honesty. It helps those like me know that when we slip up, we just have to get right back OP. It shows us that we all have the same kind of struggles. Keep staying OP! I have confidence in you!

BOB, MONET, ROBIN---WOW! Wonderful losses ladies!

GRACIOUS--so sorry to hear about your migraine! I know exactly what you mean about wanting your head cut off. I hope you feel better today.

TO ALL US MAINTAINERS/GAINERS We'll have to do our best so we'll have a loss next week!

Big HELLO to everyone.

I have to run now. I hope everyone has a great OP day!

Still don't have a scale, so no WIW for me! Not that I want to go anywhere near a scale right now.

Still no governor--doesn't look like this is going to be over anytime soon. I've been obsessing over it, but it is truly something I have no control over, so I need to stop worrying about it.

ldblond--Wow. I've got to think on that a while--I've been grappling with emotional eating for the last several months--got to get off that roller coaster.

Denise--I know what you mean about the accident. I got caught in bad traffic resulting from a fatal accident in Atlanta a couple of years ago. I-85 was at a standstill for more than two hours. Instead of being angry, all I could feel was a profound sense of gratitude that I was still alive. We should try to express that gratitude everyday--and one of the best ways is to take care of the bodies that keep us alive.

robin_girl--Congrats on the 4 lbs!!!!!! :D

Monet--Back to bed girlfriend! But woo hooo to you on the 4 lbs too!

Cherly--Sugar Blues is great reading--when you finish you will begin to see sugar as an addictive substance--really more dangerous than cocaine because the addition is so much more sidespread.

I wish I had time to respond to everyone else--but I have some work I need to do.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi all.

Here I am, a little worse for wear but still kicking. On Oct. 19th, I was in a terrible auto accident and was lucky enough to get out of it with only a broken collar bone, broken ribs, muscle bruising in my right leg which is keeping me from walking correctly and a number of other more minor "stuff". My husband who was driving was bruised badly but no broken bones, thank goodness. A dear friend who was with us in the back seat (we did all have on our seat belts.) had worse injuries, like a split diaphram but is going to be all right also. My sweet daughter came out to take care of us and drive us back to Dallas. It is going to take four months for the collar bone to heal, they say ,and in the mean time I guess I will just take it one day at a time. The xray of the collar bone scared me in that it is not in line but the doctor said I didn't even need to wear the figure 8 brace if I didn't want to. I think I will continue to wear it since it makes the area feel more protected. If anyone has information on broken collar bones, I would appreciate receiving it.

I have stayed on the SB program, even in the hospital and I think I am maintaining. I went Monday to get a blood test which was a routine thing for my Zocor medication and I will see how things are going in that area soon.

Hope eveyone is doing well. Lyn

YELLOW: Whoa! So glad you were not hurt more seriously! I don't know much about collar bones..a friend of mine broke hers in a motorcycle accident and had to have a pin put in it cause it would not heal. I am praying for you, and your hubby and friend to recover quickly!

GRACIOUS: I can sympathize about the migraines. I get them a lot...it is very cyclic with me. I get the aura and the whole nine yards. Next time you get one, try this. Sit in a tub of hot water, and put a bag of ice on your head. Sounds corny, but it really does work!

ZANNE: No more chips! I can relate tho..I love em! Try some crunchy veggies instead.

DENISE: Great reminder... I am thankful to be alive, and healthy. (well, relatively so...but I never let illness get me down so this mono is no big deal to me...)

FILLISE: Still no governor, huh? Do you come to Atlanta often? You really need to let me know next time. We can meet for lunch, or something.

I found this on Montignac's site. Seems to prove that the way we're trying to eat is the best!

PRESS RELEASE
THE MONTIGNAC METHOD SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN(1)

In its November 2001 issue, the internationally prestigious British Journal of Nutrition published the results of a Canadian study that validates the scientific premises upon which the Montignac Method is based.
The authors of this study are distinguished medical researchers at the Univerity of Quebec led by Prof. Dumesnil, who happened to lose 21 kilos (46 lbs.) following the Montignac dietary method in 1996. Impressed by his experience, he decided to probe more deeply into the principles underlying the Method.
A pilot study was therefore set up in which a group of obese men were subjected to three different dietary regimens arranged sequentially.

* The first regimen was the AHA phase 1 diet (advocated by the highly respected American Heart Association), in which the subjects consumed a reduced fat diet ad libitum.

* The second regimen was a low-glycaemic index, low fat, high protein diet based on the Montignac Method, which the subjects were also required to consume ad libitum.

* The third regimen had the same composition of macro-nutrients as the AHA Phase 1 diet: however, the energy intake was restricted to that consumed by those following the second regimen based on the Montignac Method.

The results of this study were as follows:

* Subjects following the second regimen based on the Montignac Method, achieved the most significant weight loss.

* Subjects following the Montignac Method, also achieved the best level of satiety. Those following the AHA diet, achieved satiety when they had consumed 2,800 calories. Whereas, those following the diet based on the Montignac Method, achieved satiety when they had consumed only 2,100 calories. In the third regimen, where energy intake was restricted to 2,100 calories, subjects were left still feeling hungry, although the nutritional composition of the regime conformed to official dietary recommendations.

* Those following the regimen based on the Montignac Method experienced the most significant reduction in waist measurement. In the case of those following the first regimen (AHA), waist measurements even increased.

* The Montignac Method also produced the most positive data with regard to lipid levels in the blood (lipidaemia).

* Cholesterol:

* Following the Montignac regimen, levels were stabilised. In addition, there was an increase noted in the diameter of LDL-Cholesterol particles - a significant factor in the reduction of cardiovascular risk

* The opposite was noted with regimens 1 and 3, for not only did the diameter of LDL-Cholesterol particles remain unchanged, but the ratio of HDL-Cholesterol to the overall Cholesterol level decreased, giving rise to an increased cardiovascular risk.

* Triglycerides: In the case of the Montigac Method, the study noted a reduction of 35% in triglyceride levels at the end of only 6 days. This is a quite exceptional result, not only because the other two regimens had no effect on this parameter (with regimen 1, levels even increased) but also because, according to Prof. Dumesnil, in our armoury of medicines we do not currently have a molecule capable of producing this sort of result within such a short time frame.

* And then finally, it was the regime based on the Montignac Method that produced the lowest insulin levels in the blood (whether under fasting conditions, or during the course of a 24 hour day, or even when high blood sugar levels were induced), resulting in the most stable glycaemic levels of any regimen. Limiting these two parameters is, of course, one of the factors in reducing the risk of insulin resistance, the main cause underlying the development of diabetes.

The implications of this study are that, compared to the usual dietary recommendations exemplified by regimens 1 and 3, the Montignac Method will give better results, not only in terms of losing weight without suffering hunger pangs, but particularly in terms of reducing factors associated with cardiovascular risk. Moreover, it is reasonable to conclude that following the Montignac Method will naturally inhibit the onset of diabetes type II.
A copy of the original study can be ordered on the publisher's site.

Well, I did it!:D I ate 100% on plan yesterday! I got in a lot of walking. I came home from the mall and realized I had forgotten to pick up this HUGE back of mixxed greens that I had seen for a really good price. So, off I trotted, back to the store to buy lettuce. I got something healthy and some exercise!:smug:

I did have the munchies after swimming. I'd forgotten how salty triscuits are! They filled the salt craving. I also had a bucket of veggies all prepared and a batch of spicy black bean hummus. YUM!

Time for coffee! I'll try to get back later!

ZANNE: Way to go! You done slendid! :bravo:

Gosh the board has been quiet. Where is everybody? I just got up, so I am going to toddle downstairs and find something for breakfast. I think it will be a piece of leftover quiche. Whole wheat crust of course... It is so nice and easy for breakfast!

Have a good day everyone!

Zanne, that was a good article. I used to be on Suzanne Somers WOE and my bloodwork was fantastic, even though I was eating things I wasn't supposed to. Way to go eating OP. :cp:

Debelli, I thought that since the Vita-Spelt pasta I had was also Whole Wheat (I ate the brown one), that it had fiber in it. I went into the site you recommended, and copied the carb serving list so I know how much to eat. Thank you, that was very helpful. I think why this WOE is so confusing to me is, I'm a veteran dieter, and just about every program has set specific guidelines as to how many servings, and serving size. I hope I have gotten this straight, SB, you eat 2-3 serv. of starchy carbs. a day, mostly protein & non-starchy veggies, nothing more than 3 gm. of sugar, and no counting calories, fat grams, or carbs (other than starchy carbs). Sometimes I feel like I'm floundering here.

BOB, WOW 50 deg. in FL? It's kind of early for those temps, isn't it?

Enjoy your day everyone!:flow2:

The kids are home for today and tomorrow because of some teacher's meeting. I am going to try and finish sewing my daughter's dress today with 3 kids running about. And I am still trying to get some laundry folded. My laundry is always washed, but tends to wait a while to get folded. :o

YELLOWROSE- How terrible for you, your hubby and the friend to have been in that accident. Although you had awful injuries I am thankful that they weren't even worse. Kudos to you for staying on plan even while in hospital...that is truly amazing!

MUSICTEACH- Nuts are way better to eat than so many other things. The extra fat won't do as much damage as the carbs and sugar in other treats. Good for you to choose them. Good news about James too. Our 3 kids all seem to have an understanding of the gospel and the 6 & 8 year olds have expressed faith but as a parent you have to be so careful, don't you? I certainly wouldn't want to give the assurance of salvation when it wasn't real. We simply encourage them, pray with them and teach them and let them know that anyone who trusts in Jesus will shine forth His light in their lives and others will see it. The really neat thing is they are all seeing *prayer work*. We have had a wonderful year here starting with my Mom getting saved and others in our church and community. My son said the other day, *When we pray, people get saved, don't they Daddy?* I thought that was wonderful.

MONET- Thanks for the pointer. I was in such a state that I don't think I would have been able to get myself into the tub! I will certainly remember it for next time and hope that hubby is around to help me out.

ALEKA- Sounds like you got it down pat. Once you get used to it, it will become like second nature to you.

OK... I managed to get up off the road after being run over by the wagon yet again. This is getting REALLY old!!!! I'm so tired of just not caring what I eat! Halloween did me in. I was back on track so well, and then all of a sudden CANDY was everywhere!! I fell off the wagon and haven't been back on since!

I did *pretty* well yesterday. We ate Mexican and I had some tortilla chips and ate my enchiladas with regular tortillas :( But other than that... everything I had yesterday was OP.

Today I'm starting out well!!! I have had too many carbs already, because I had 3 slices of legal french toast with agave... YUM!!! But it's sure better than the Count Chocula I had yesterday :^:

I'm going in for some tests today... they found a mass close to my urethra, and have to determine what it is, etc... and my new OB/GYN is running all kinds of hormone tests (FINALLY I FOUND ONE THAT WANTS TO GET TO THE BOTTOM OF MY PROBLEMS!!!) and I go back there tomorrow. I've only had one day in the last 2 business weeks that I have NOT had a doctors appointment!!! It's been NUTS! ( I feel like I'm having a baby again since all these Dr's are staring at me 'down there' sheesh, it's been humiliating!!!)

Everyone just please keep your fingers crossed, pray, whatever your preferred way of sending good thoughts is... I think part of my neglecting to stay OP is the nervousness that comes with knowing something is wrong and not knowing what it is. My OB/GYN thinks I have all the symptoms of PCOS, EXCEPT... my periods are regular! Go figure... so she's saying I probably don't have that... but they're looking for what I might have. That mixed with this mass I'm having tested.... well let's just say STRESS!!!

I'll check in later... I *WILL* Stay OP Today!!!!!!! I CAN DO IT!!!

:grouphug:

Bye Everyone!!

Hey! It's a gorgeous morning here.

I'm getting ready to head over to the church. My leave from the church job is up--but I have to admit on Monday I sat in the office wondering what to do--everyone had covered so well for me that everything seemed to be done! Oh well staff meeting is this morning, so I'll get mew assignments and plenty to do!

Lyn--so sorry to hear about your accident--but thrilled to know that you are ok--or will be. I'll be praying that your recovery is speedy. I don't know anything about collarbones--except that they seem to be a bit like ribs--nothing to do but wait for them to mend.

Beth--good luck with the Ob/GYN. I've had female problems for my entire reproductive life---now that I'm 44 and fairly certain that I will never have kids, I'm living for menopause!

Gracious--you are supposed to fold laundry???????? The system that works for me is to have two laundry baskets on the bedroom floor--one to use out of and one to put in dirty clothes.

BOB--Glad to hear of your gorgeous weather! And how is little Skeeter? Belle went to the vet for her annual shots yesterday. Needless to say she was not a happy camper last night.

Monet--I've been thinking about a shopping trip to Atlanta before Christmas. I'd love to visit with you! In fact I have a good friend who is going to have some surgery in Atlanta in December and I may come stay with her. Rest up so we can have some fun after Thanksgiving!

OK--got to go get into the shower--sorry I can't talk to everyone!

Have a great day!

Susan

Welcome to the board!
And your right, any weight loss is good weight loss!!

Zanne
Do it! If your DH wants chips let him get them at work or something. Mine is whining all the time but tough. My health is more important then his munchies problem.
Plus I'm trying to get my 9 year old out of the junkies too.

Fillise
I was explaining the book to my DH and telling him how bad sugar is and all the problems it causes and saying how he should give it a try. He says "I don't eat a lot of sugar, I hardly ever eat candy"
I was just amazed! I started listing all the things he eats and drinks daily that were loaded with sugar and he was like "Oh..."
Thing with my DH, I have to give him facts and let him mull it over for a while. He see's it's working for me and DD so he'll venture over to the SB side eventually. I see a big problem with him giving up the beer though :P

YellowRose
Thank God you all survived with minor injuries! Course it probably doesn't feel to minor to your right?
Hang in there! You will heal and life will get back to normal again.

Good Thursday Morning Everyone:wave:

Just got in from my jog/walk. After not going for an entire 6 days it was hard, but I got in my usual 4.5 miles which took me 51:25. I think it would of been a bit better if I didn't have to contend with the wind, but at least I don't have to complain about the heat. It's not as cool as I thought it was going to be but much better than what it has been.

Wasn't able to get on the board last night to post because Michael was on it long before we got home and long after I went to bed. Kids has a ton of homework which always takes presidence over my computer time.

Kids got their first report card yesterday and I'm absolutely thrilled with the results of the first quarter. Michael got straight A 1 A's across the board and Lauren got all A 1 A's except for one B 1 A. Michael has 2 AP classes and the rest or IB classes (harder than AP). Lauren has all Honors classes. This is by far the best report card she's ever brought home. Michael also got a certificate that he achieved AP SCHOLAR status from last year. Thanks for letting me boast and have the "proud Mom moment".

ELI and I got a late start out yesterday, leisurely day so we don't really push to get out. Went to OLE OLE for lunch, Sawgrass to return something, few other stops and then went to see THE RING. I wanted to see a different movie but somehow screwed up the times, so we just went to see this, it was okay, not really in to scary movies and then, it wasn't even really that scary.

Not much planned today. I have some cleaning to do in the house (as usual) and after I get the kids from school we're going to head over to my Grandparent's house as it's my Grandfather's bday today as well as going to see my Great Aunt who we haven't seen since early summer, so have to go there later.

CHERYL, a weight loss of 1-2lbs a week isn't slow, it's normal and what's said to be a healthy loss, a fat loss. Anything over 2lbs a week is usually a loss of something besides fat, like muscle-so if you lose 1-2lbs a week average consider this perfect!!:D You'll be breaking under that 200 mark soon!!!

ROBIN, http://members.aol.com/eldemila/sb_sign1.jpg You definitely are doing great thus far! CONGRATS! Just remember, stay focused and be patient and you'll truly be rewarded in more ways than one while following this WOE:)

DENISE, that was a terrible accident on the I yesterday, what a tragedy! I actually thought about JACKK when I saw that and thanked G-D that I knew she was on that ship already! Thank gawd that other tanker didn't blow, that would of really been horrifying in more ways than one. Good job on the rollerblades, as I told you, I can't even stand in them. I'd be so afraid of breaking a bone or two, much less not being able to break when I wanted to stop without crashing in to something solid to stop me in my tracks. I bet your legs must look great from doing that! OLE OLE was delish, 4 bowls of salsa emptied and of course, we spoke of you while there!;) Please ask your DM what time she put down for the marathon, just curious to know if we'd be in the same corral, though I doubt it. What day is she planning on heading up to Orlando? Good luck at OPEN HOUSE tonight-hope you'll have a good report!

LDBLOND, http://members.aol.com/eldemila/ani_hb.jpg I hope you have a wonderful birthday today and a good time at your farewell party from work. I'm sure you'll be missed there, but on the other hand, I look forward to having you a bit more on the board with the little extra time you may find yourself with. Loved the MM message-thanks for posting it!!!

MUSIC, hey, at least it's not a gain-that's a lot worse, esp. since I know that's what I've had, though I won't confirm it!

ZANNE, I think it's hormonal, the weight gain, the inches on the tape measure AND the pimples-not to mention the craving. Again, try to up your protein and if that's not helping a little try to eat some Brazil nuts. You may be craving potato chips not only for the salt, but maybe because you need the seratonin fix that's in the potatoes and eating some BN's could help. Here's an interesting article I found on a website, http://www.selfhelpforher.com/nutrition15.htm

Understanding Food Cravings
By Archana Khambekar

It is four in the afternoon when the feeling creeps up on you -- a hard to ignore longing for a Milky Way bar. Carrot sticks cannot calm this urge and if the vending machine doesn't have it you dash out in the rain to get that candy bar. This is not an easy-to-satiate hunger that can be satisfied by anything delectable nor is it a simple food preference. It is a craving that is best defined as a very intense desire to eat a particular food, strong enough that you may go out of your way to get it. If this sounds familiar, you probably have already experienced the irresistible food craving. In fact, we all have these moments when we succumb to the need for a food fix.

An interesting factual tidbit is that we tend to crave certain foods more than others. Research conducted in U.S. and Canada has shown that chocolate tops the list of favorites followed by pizza, salty foods such as potato chips and french fries, then sweets, bread, protein and fatty foods. Further, men and women hunger for different types of treats. While men want salty, spicy foods, women prefer sweets, especially, chocolate. Food cravings are also dictated by the time of day, with late afternoon or early evening being the prime period when that "must have" feeling kicks in. However, it has also been noted that older people in general, have fewer cravings than younger adults.

Food For Thought

When the desire for a tasty morsel rears its head, the majority of us will rather trot to the refrigerator than stop to ponder the underlying reason for the craving. Researchers, however, have conducted studies to understand these food impulses and offered diverse hypotheses. Proponents of the nutritional deficiency theory reason that the body craves nutrients that it lacks. While there is evidence, for example, that individuals with a severe sodium deficiency develop cravings for salt, a contradictory fact is that many people intake more than their requirement of sodium yet they still crave salty food. Hence, be aware that this theory is not always applicable before you act on it and reach for that bag of potato chips.

In examining the relationship between dieting and cravings, researchers noted that those who had just started on a diet were more prone to cravings than those who have been dieting for a long time. According to Dr. Marcia Pelchat, a biological psychologist a possible reason could be that experienced dieters may be following a sensible diet that is rich in variety as against the monotonous diet adopted by dieters just starting out. An alternative rationalization suggests that being on a restrictive diet induces cravings, as people often want what they cannot have. After all, forbidden fruit is more tempting.

Another group of scientists contends that we crave specific foods because they contain substances that influence brain chemistry. These edibles could be a way of increasing the availability of a neurotransmitter in the brain called serotonin, an example being the longing for sugary carbohydrates often experienced by women in the premenstrual period. As reported in the American Journal of Psychiatry, 36% of women crave sweet foods before their menstrual cycle, a time when the chemical serotonin becomes depleted. This decline adversely affects mood, which in turn spurs insidious "comfort eating". It is also theorized that people turn to the so-called "mood foods" to feel better when they are stressed out or despondent. But Dr. Adam Drewnowski, former Director of the University of Michigan's Human Nutrition Program, expresses a different point of view. He puts forth that eating high-fat, chocolate foods can trigger the brain's production of natural opiates hence the susceptibility to these foods. In his studies he has observed that when he used a drug to block the brain's opiate receptors, the craving for sweet, fatty foods such as chocolate plummeted.

These are some of the hypotheses floating around -- a single clear explanation is yet to emerge. Currently this is a subject of ongoing research and the new findings presented in the Journal of American Dietetic Association ( http://www.eatright.org/journal/) and the international publication Appetite ( http://www.academicpress.com/appetite) provide more food for thought.

Tame the Craving

Even though scientists differ on the origins of food cravings they agree that these yearnings are not detrimental except when you indulge in excess. If you long for ice cream, for instance, and eat just one scoop, no harm is done. However if you eat a whole gallon of ice cream, you have just gone from craving to bingeing; it is in the interest of your health to rein in this devouring. Nutrition experts suggest these easy-to-follow strategies to tame your appetite:

Give yourself 15 to 20 minutes before sticking your head into the refrigerator. Experts say that a craving is like a wave that peaks and subsides.

While it is okay to slip up occasionally, especially when these pangs are overpowering, do practice portion control. Eat a small bowl of potato chips instead of a bag of potato chips.

Substitute with a similar food that has a better nutritional value than the one you crave. A glass of chocolate skim milk instead of a candy bar is a healthier choice. If it works for you, try a low calorie alternative such as low fat flavored yogurt instead of regular ice cream.

When attempting to modify your intake, don't be too restrictive. Incorporate some of your favorite foods into your eating plans.

Eat a proper breakfast to lessen mid-afternoon cravings.

Exercise regularly to release ''feel-good'' chemicals similar to those released when you eat the craved-for food.

Maintain a journal of your cravings to determine if your emotional state is the underlying trigger. Once these emotional triggers are discovered, an appropriate eating regimen can be developed.

These measures do not give you a magical hold on your cravings but provide a way to better manage them. Keeping your nutritional wits intact is always a good approach on the road of healthy eating.

Lucky you that still has 6 weeks before Xmas, we have only two to go:fr:

Break...had to go with my DS to look at a couch and to help watch 2 of her 5, but back now:D

FILLISE, think of the governors race this way, it's not sooo bad, I think keeping a whole country in suspense for weeks on end in finding a president is a ton worse;) I'm with you on NOT getting on the scale-heck!

SOLSHINE, loved gabbing with you on the phone. Hope you have/had a good trip and look forward to hearing and seeing more of you. Can't wait to see you in O-town in less than 2 months!!!! Is that you're fur baby or a look alike? Good luck at the show!!!!

ROSE, so sorry to hear about your terrible accident and your injuries you sustained, thank goodness it wasn't worse though. Where did this happen, in NC or TX or in between on your way home? I'm thinking NC since I think you were suppose to be there after my parents and they didn't leave til the 20th. I hope you have a speedy recovery.

BOB, beautiful today, isn't it?!? Hey, it sounds like KATE is enjoying her time away from you as much as you are enjoying having your house back to yourself for a while. Maybe that or she's having a fling with an orderly! LOL!!! Me drag him to Broward, not I my dear, he's the one who wants to go up there all the time!!! I happily follow though;)

ALEKA, all whole grain pastas have fiber in them, but certainly not enough for a whole day. Many people just don't get enough of the recommended 25-30 grams a day. I try to shoot for 40-50 if I'm able. Remember fiber doesn't get absorbed by the body, which is why, when you count carbs, for instance, you deduct the grams of fiber. PLUS, fiber helps foods digest slower and makes you feel fuller longer. Do you have any idea an average of fiber you get, most people don't. Just think, a pint of raspberries, say about 6 ounces has approx 12 grams of fiber, almost half of the recommended intake. I too am a veteran dieter AND WL surgery aficianado. I don't care what SB says about calories and them not counting, calories count and if you don't take in enough it's just as bad as taking in too many, which is a very common problem I see happen with people on not only this WOE but many others. If you can keep your intake to 30% fat, 40% carbs and 30% protein, or approx amounts to that, it doesn't have to be exact, and then keep those starchy carbs to 2-3 a day, you'll do fine. Check out RISSA'S site which gives a good overview of SB at http://www.prettyimpressivestuff.com/sugarbusters You're not floundering, your like a salmon, going up stream (I know, you didn't mean THAT kind of flounder, but I couldn't resist), no, you're learning!!!!! Even a veteran can learn something new and as I've always said, even after being on this WOE for 2 1/2 years now, I learn something new almost daily!

GRACIOUS, geez, 2 days off for the kids-wow! Seems these days the kids are out much more than when I was at school.

BETH, glad to see you back, you know you aren't the only one to fall off and you do seem to brush yourself off and find the path to get back on that wagon. Did DH tell you I called about 2 weeks ago? He told me first you weren't home and then confessed that you were sleeping. Sorry to hear about all the Dr. visits, but hopefully, they'll get to the root of the problem. Good luck with the tests and PLEASE let us know the outcome. We'll all be sending good thoughts your way:vibes:

Crap, it's after 11pm already-where does the time go??

Gotta run, will check in later!

GRACIOUS: I can't believe you! You don't have to fold laundry! You get the kids to do it! You can get them each a basket, and put their clothes in it, teach them to fold them and put them away themselves. Your daughter will be ready to take over the whole laundry operation in a while and your sons will be well trained. All their future spouses will sing your praises..... ;) My kids have done their own laundry since they were in about sixth grade. All I have to do is mine and my hubby's. Sure makes it easy!

FILLISE: I will look forward to getting together with you when you get to Atlanta! I am being really good! Today, I spent all morning in bed reading. After lunch, I will take a nap. I'll be ready for your visit! :)

CHERYLCO: Yes ma'am! I am heading off downstairs for lunch and will snitch a handful of nuts while I am there! :)

BETH: I will be praying for you. I am sure it is very unsettling to have to deal with the unknown and all the doctors checking you out. Keep us posted! Just remember, you will feel better off the sugar!

Lunchtime! Catch you all later!

I was gone for WIW but the weight is still holding around 154..so no complaints.

Zanne...you sound just like me...I'm 37 almost 38 and have been hitting the chips more than normal. My face has been dry and breaking out. My first thoughts were..is this hormones...I mean hello acne at 40..what's the deal. I had it horrible in my teens but not since. I hope you continue to feel better and stay away from those chips. I had control this morning and only had 3...now if I can just stay away from the bag. No way of not having them in the house. Five kids and one hubby would have my neck. :)

Welcome Robin Girl! I agree with you...water weight or not it's a a step in the right direction. Keep up the good work.

YellowRose...praise God you are going to be okay. How very scary for you and your family.

Beth..praying they find the root of you troubles and that the mass is nothing more than an inconvience.

Gotta run ya'll..the kids are still doing school and are getting distracted.

Love,
Crystle

Just a quickie today. Things were a zoo at work yesterday and today is shaping up to be no better. Had to do insurance enrollment meetings for one of our clients. Yuk!

Anyway, I'm down 2 pounds for WIW (a day late) and I had on a belt yesterday that I hadn't had on in ages!!!

Deb, I loved talking with you the other night. We'll have to do it again sometime. January is looking up. We'll keep working on it.

See ya.

Hi all! Well today is the dreaded Open House tonight for my 15 year old daughter who has not been doing well in school. Gary is coming with me so at least I don't have to go it alone. I'm just hoping that it's not as bad as I think. She has admitted that she wasn't able to bring her grades up to all A's and B's from her interim report card that had (3) F's on it. Tonight, they are giving the report cards out to the parents at Open House. I can only hope and pray that they are mostly A's and B's with 3 (C's)....and that her next report card will be all A's and B's. I am so distraught over this stuff!!:(

If this is a cold front, then the weather people down here are plain stupid. I couldn't even wear a light jacket to work this am because it was sooo warm. It's going to be in the 80's today. Oh brother. They said another front is supposed to come in over the weekend, but it will probably still be warm.

I've been thinking about Jackie lately cause they've had a lot of problems with people getting sick on the cruise ships down here. I hope that she was not on one of those cruises...

Did my usual 55 minutes of The Firm last night. Nothing new or unusual. Sometimes, I think I'm exercising for no reason at all cause I'm just not seeing the results I want if you know what I mean. Gary keeps me going and keeps telling me that I'm looking better then I used to eventhough the scale hasn't moved in two months.:?:

Lyn: You probably don't know who I am, cause I'm new. However, I wanted to send you some warm wishes
:cloud9: and I hope that you recover soon. Auto accidents are so traumatizing and it's so amazing that you stayed "On Plan" during your stay in the hospital, etc. Wow!!:bravo:

Susanne: Thanks for info on the Montignac site. Very interesting stuff. I'm always looking for proof that this WOE is backed by evidence and facts. Congrats on staying On Plan yesterday. It does take a concerted effort to do this!!:)

Aleka: Sounds like you got this down pat. But like Debbie says, I think for SOME people, you may have to count your calories if you are 20 pounds close to your goal weight. I have about 20 pounds to lose, and I have only maintained in the past 2 months. Therefore, I think I'm going to have to breakdown and start counting calories in order to lose anymore weight.

Tina: I eat nuts everyday, but I will be limiting them from now on and counting those extra calories.

Beth: Sorry to hear you fell off plan. We're all human and we all will eventually fall off plan here and there. Don't worry about it and just get back on plan at your next meal. Sorry to hear you may have PCOS or a cyst. Pls let us know what you find out when you return from your doctor's appt. Will send prayers your way. "Remember stressed spelled backwards is desserts."

Debbie: First of all, Congratulations on your kid's report cards!!!!:cb: I AM TRULY HAPPY FOR YOU. :dizzy: I know it makes you feel so wonderful and so proud and all I can say is Kudos to you as you are doing something right, that's for sure!!

I will ask my mom what time she put down for the Disney trip. She is not going up till Sat. Also, thanks for sharing the info on Understanding Cravings. Good to read next time I crave something....

LDBlond: Happy Birthday!!!:gift: :hat:
Party Hardy!!

Crystle: Just like you and Susan, I get pimple too at age 39! I think mine maybe caused from stress or hormones...I always thought it was from the chocolate I used to eat, but since starting SB on 9/1/02, I haven't had ANY sugar and I still get the pimples. Weird!

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Hi Everyone:

Well I missed WIW - I am the same - no high/no low - just the same.... But I am not feeling well - fighting off everything around me - Serene is sick with some virus w/cold like symptoms, the office people are out with stomach virus....so I go from exhaustion, to stuffy/sore throat/ear aches, to queasy feeling...but, I have managed to get to bed early every night which seems to help....

Enough of my whining - time to get a move on the post!

Denise - Good luck tonight with your Open House...I too fret over the grades!

Trish - WTG on the 2#'s!!!! YEAH!!!!

Crystal - HEY, HEY - 37 almost 38 is NOT 40! hahahaha You are making me older here!!!! hahahaha - glad that you are maintaining! I found a new chip thing at the HFS called Racquet Chips, Wheat Chips Cheddar Cheese - and thought wow I found something good to munch on - ate them - and thought I read the ingredients closely enough - but NOPE - there is an ingredient - Starch!!! DARN!!!! They were in the low carb section.... So I am right there with you now on eating chips, and I did not even mean to!! hahahaha

Monet - How are you feeling? I am right there with you on the laundry - I was very young when I started washing my own clothes, and I have been teaching DS to do his as well - but he helps me get it put away, and he helps me get it from washer to dryer, etc. - soon, very soon, he will be such a big help!

Deb - WOW that is so wonderful about the kids' report cards!!!! I am hoping for DS to follow in their footsteps. His Birthday is on the 23rd and he is getting a guitar from his dad and I, and the lessons start on Tuesday, 26th!!!! Got it all set up - having a sleepover at his Dad's house :hyper: that way, I can go home and sleep in peace and quiet!

Cheryl - Well, hopefully you can convert your husband - maybe start convincing him to switch over to that new low carb beer...

Fillise - Enjoy the restful day of an organized desk - I bet with holidays coming up, you won't have time to breathe at work!!!!

Beth - Hope the doctors figure it out and take care of you!!!!

Gracious - Hi! I bet your weather is so very nice and cool right now - are you getting snow or have snow yet? My mother just got back from Montreal and said that they saw snow - how magical!!!

Aleka - Hi!! It was in the low 50s this morning here in Jacksonville, Florida - which is normal for winter - even down to the 40s soon - but the afternoons warm up to the 70s - that is why I love Florida!!! But I am in North Florida - so cooler temps then Bob's and Deb's and even those in Orlando....

Zanne - Thanks for sharing that info - helps me a lot to understand what everyone is talking about - I have not had any chance to find the book to read for myself.

I have to end my post and start back up - need to read back a little further - I want to find Yellow's post about an accident - scary!!! Got to see what it says - back in a minute!

HiedieHo All!
I have been so AWOL!!! Retirememnt? What is that? I have been on the go so much lately there is no time for me!

I think after this weekend I will be back tio normal again. I have to take time to think of me! I have been so bad the last few days. It all started with croissants! I love them and usually buy them for the family when I do monthly shopping at Sam's, but I don't touch them! Well! Forget that this month! I have had about 6 in the last four days! Then just plain overeating on OP things. I have to get back on track. So far so good today.

I tried to go through the Board quickly. I see we have some new ladies....WELCOME!!. See a couple of people not feeling well and hope they are better soon. See some people struggling, including our illustrious leader. ME TOO! We all know what we have to do!

DEBBIE: You mentioned an appointment with GYN, did you have it yet? Is all okay? If you posted results I missed them. It's not right to feel the way you do.

I went to the NH this a.m., have an HFH Board meeting tonight. Tomorrow the YAH is going to the Global Wildlife Center and Saturday I am going to a Craft Show with a friend.

Maybe Sunday after church I will remember me! I need to rest. Will try to keep up with you all!

Sorry I have not been able to get back to the board this week. Thought since I was scheduled 3-11 shift all week that it would have meant being able to keep up but after going to bed after 1:30 am on Mon night, I was rudely awakened by a call at 6am to return to work for a 12 hr shift Tues & again Wed.

This morning I woke up around 4:30 am with a horrible headache & nausea. Kept going back & forth to the BR but nothing came up, just dry heaves. The headache prevented me from lying down, so I had to stay in a sitting position & slept short intervals till I finally got up & went to the chiropractor for an adjustment. It did help some & I was able to eat lunch & retain it.

Debelli, I did get to read your post of Tues am about your eating frenzy. Thanks for being so open & honest about it. I agree with other comments that I saw that it is an inspiration to the rest of us because we also face the same problems from time to time & it helps knowing that we're not the only ones that do that. But now enough is enough. You've HAD YOUR FLING NOW GET BACK ON THIS WAGON WITH US. :D Thought that was being easier on you than you have been on yourself. ;) Really, I do hope that you can get back on track because you have proved to yourself that it is possible & definiety worth it. We have ever confident in you.

LARA HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT DAY! :hb: :gift: :cp: :grouphug:

Well, I need to get ready for work, but wanted to share with all of you that my vacation eating which I reported bringing me way over my allowed weight is now gone. This am I weighed in at 9 less than last Sat when we first got home. My weight commander says to slow down, but I believe some of that was water gain along with the :nono: foods of the vacation week. I had been drinking alot of diet sodas which I had all but stopped drinking, so that probably contributed to the gain also. I do feel better about myself now being back within my goal range.

Quickie:

Debbie: I spoke to my Mom and she is running the FULL marathon at Disney (26 miles). She is going to try and make it in around 5 hours. She's currently running 23-24 miles about once a month on Sat to prepare for it.

Mary, Sabrina and Serene-It's going around. Sounds kind of like what I went through last week. Hope you all recover soon.

Crystle: We are surpisingly close in stats. I don't know why I'm breaking out!

Sef: Sorry to hear you had your share of croissants! You will be back in the swing of things before you know it.

Okay, I'm off to Open House. Ugh!!

Checkin' In- Last week I was up 4 pounds from my alcohol and munchies binge. Yesterday, I still had 1 of those pounds lingering. I'm hoping the scale will say 216 again tomorrow. Boogie had a ped cardiology appt today and everything looks great! Now we don't have to go back to Jackson for a month.

EVENING EVERY BUDDY!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LARA!!!!! Have a big ole day and don't eat too much cake!!! :hat: :gift:

SUSAN....SKEETER is due his shots, but I'm at a stand still about doing his nails for the winter. I usually have them cut to the fur and then it's the end of Spring before they have to be cut again...He's getting so old that I don't know if I should let them knock him out or not! He's really a good boy when he gets his shots...it's the nail clipping that he doesn't like

MONET....GET YOUR ARSE BACK IN THE BED!!!!! We're going to have to get you a little fridge to put by your bed! While you were up, I don't suppose you cleaned the kitchen or anything did you?

DENISE...I sent you an email about the recipes and my work address...did you not get it? Don't you love this weather???

HEART....{{{{{{{{BOOGIE}}}}}}}}}} so glad that he's doing so well!

MELF....I BELIEVE IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU MIGHT BE PREGNANT!!!! :fr: Hope you feel better!!

ALEKA...we take this kind of weather any way we can get it! It only comes a few times a year, so we don't question it anytime it arrives!

HI SABRINA.....TELL WENDY TO GET HER SORRY BUTT ON THE BOARD!!!!

TRISH....GOOD GOING GIRL!!!!

HEY CHERYL!!!!

DEB...GLad to hear you had a good day out! Tell MY SWEETIE that I tried some of the LITENOTE this morning and it was very good!!!

Well gals...it's a BIG TV night...I've got to get everything done so I can pile up in the four poster!

Evening Everyone:wave:

Thought I'd hop on the computer while no child was occupying it-don't know when one of them will come in and sing "I NEED THE COMPUTER!"

Eating is great today, here's what I've had so far...

2oz raw spinach
2oz iceberg lettuce
1oz blue cheese
3oz chicken breast
1tbl hot sauce
.2oz lf mayo
1oz onion
.8oz celery
1 sl sf SGWW bread
1 c milk
6 1/2oz raspberries
10 1/2oz Asian pear
1 egg
1tbl sf ketchup
.1oz pine nuts
3oz cooked salmon

Totals so far:

955 calories, 36 1/2 grams fat (approx 35%) 84 grams of carbs (approx 35%) and 82 1/2 grams protein (approx 35%) 26 1/2 grams fiber and 560mg of calcium

I want to bring it up to 1200 calories for the day, but not sure what I'll have a bit later on-I know this is boring, but it helps me to post this I think:^:

I am so back on track and have VOWED to myself that no matter what, I am not giving in to ANYTHING until Thanksgiving dinner at my Aunt and Uncle's house. Honestly, we don't come from a long line of good cooks and my A&U usually order the turkey and other stuff from places up in W. Palm Beach (rich people don't need to cook if they can buy!) We all bring something to contribute, as I did last year, and what I brought was all SB LEGAL. There's really not anything other than the cookies Lauren makes that I really want to eat, and I get crazy with them. So that's what I'll be reserving for that day. I just hope I can get back on track the next day, that's what worries me moreso than eating the darned cookies!

It is so funny, at least to me. The phone keeps ringing for Michael and kids are asking for Mr. Michael (last name-don't like posting it for lurkers to see). He is doing a casting call for this student film he's going to do for the film making class he's taking. It was announced at school so kids are calling the house to get more info and even though it was announced as a student film, I wonder how many kids are thinking it's an adult doing this. It's just funny to hear them asking for Mr. Michael _______l!!!

TRISH, depending on how you want to work the Jan trip, if you come early, you could fly in to Ft. Lauderdale and out of Orlando the Sunday we leave so you could be home in time for work on Monday-if you have to. I found some fares that seemed decent enough-LMK what you think!

DENISE, hope you come home with some good news about Amber's grades. Crossing my fingers for you, and her! How are you going to deal with it if she hasn't? Hopefully she's doing better with the new grading period. You know she has the brains, so many kids do, but for some reason they don't apply them-and then when they get to be adults, they want to kick themselves for slacking when they did in HS. I think when the kids were little I stressed education AND being at school every day. I got away with murder and I wasn't about to let my kids have any slack, dying or dead, they're going to be at school. Luckily, both my kids actually like school-okay, they're a bit weird:shrug: WOW, your DM is doing the full marathon, I continue to be in awe, my gosh, she is something else! Is she excited to know you will be there cheering her on????:D I think we should all be there to cheer her on as she crosses the finish line if we are able. I'm sure the time it will take me to do the 13.2, she won't be far behind me finishing the full!

TRANQUIL, you've been feeling icky lately, what's this crap all about? Is ZACH excited to be starting guitar lessons? I hope he likes it as much as Michael has. Glad you found out those crackers aren't totally legal. Do see if you can find the BARBARA'S WHEATINES, they are delicious!

SEF, really nothing much to tell about the GYN visit, I was just overdue and thought since the EX was out of a job and having to pay for insurance, I might as well go get these things done and out of the way. Nothing buy cobwebs up that way:lol: Just have to wait for a pap smear result, go for a boobie smashing (haven't made an appt yet), other than that, healthy as a horse. Hey, didn't you remember, even God rested on the 7th day!!!! Take it easy!!!!

MELF, sorry to hear you weren't feeling good-I get like that sometimes and it's the worse. When I do, it's definitely hormonal, when I overeat it comes up, but hormonal nothing. Thanks for the lashing, I need that once in a while! I'm back on track, for sure!!!
CONGRATS for being back down below goal and losing all that vacation weight, definitely must of had some water retention there. I think when we go on vacation it really messes up our system, I won't crap for days when I'm not at home and boy, that can really pack on the pounds!!!! Uh oh, I better of not said that, some people may be weary of staying with me in Orlando!! LOL!!!!!!!

HEART, glad to hear BOOGIE continues to do well, that's great news. And your news about losing 3 of those 4 pounds is great too, keep up the good work, you'll be back to losing new pounds soon!

BOB, your sweetie wants to know if you still want those canisters, and if so, how many do you want him to get??? LMK ASAP via e-mail. Glad you liked something new of SB'S!!!

Okay, I'm outta here for the night. I'll check in tomorrow morning at some point.

Have a good one everybody!!!

Just had a nice dinner, made by my dear hubby. We had chicken breasts cooked in cream of mushroom soup, baked sweet potato and spinach. You know, food tastes better if someone else fixes it! Has anyone else noticed this phenomenon?

I ran out of books to read this afternoon, and I am dreading tomorrow. I guess I will have to find something on the shelf to re-read. There is a Barnes and Noble less than a mile from me, and I am SO tempted to run over there tomorrow morning and find something new to read! But I won't. I suppose I could sleep all day... Wah! I am SOOO bored!

BOB: How did you know? I unloaded the dishwasher and loaded it back up with the bits and pieces laying around. That is all I did! Honest! Then I took an hour nap and spent two hours reading in bed. Nothing strenuous...

HEART: Good to hear Boogie's appt. went well!

DENISE: Your mom sounds pretty impressive. I wish I could run 1 mile! I think I am going to set that as a goal, but I am not sure how long a time I should give myself. My daughter is going to be my personal trainer, once I am well enough to work out again, and I am dreading it! She is a slave driver! ;)

SEF: No more croissants! If you want them, you have to make your own with whole wheat flour! Ok?

LDBLOND: Happy Birthday! :balloons:

TRANQUIL: I am much better. I am sorry to hear you are feeling poorly! I hope I did not give you mono! :O Get lots of rest! And if your throat is sore, and your glands are swollen, ask for a mono test! Oh, and chicken noodle soup! Thats the ticket!

MELF: Hope you are feeling better! You too, get rest! And remember ... chicken noodle soup!

COUNTRY: Howdy to you too!

From what I hear, we are in for some nasty weather this coming weekend.:censored: I hope the storm doesn't develop like they say it will.

Later on today I am meeting a GF for lunch and a shopping spree! I have to start my Christmas shopping, and two dept. stores in the mall are having great sales.

Debelli, I'm going to take this WOE one step at a time. I am watching my carb & sugar intake, and counting points. By counting points, I'm watching my calorie intake.

Monet, your chicken sounds delicious. When you said cream of mushroom soup, is that canned mushroom soup? If so, is that something we can have? I hope you're feeling better.

Everyone enjoy your weekend. :balloons

Hope everyone is doing well today :) I have a Dr's Appt at 10:15 because she did all kinds of hormone bloodwork, and wants me to come in and go over them... and she wants to do another blood test for my DHEA levels? I think it is another something having to do with PCOS.

ZANNE - I'd really LOVE to talk more with you about it if you don't mind me EMailing you :)

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone!! The PCOS and the Mass I have are two seperate things... the mass is not near my ovaries, it's close to my urethra, but they ruled out it being attached to that last nite, which leaves a probablilty of a vaginal cyst... not that ya'll wanted to know that ;)

My poor dad... he keeps calling and asking me what's up with me for all these dr's appointments... and you just don't wanna talk to your DAD about a vag. cyst...LMAO~~!!!!! I just keep telling him it's a cyst near my bladder ;) IT's true!! :) I love him tho... he's really worried about me and just doesn't know how to show it. I'm sure there's nothing to worry about, just an annoying knot that hopefully we can get RID of SOON!!!

DEB - DH didn't know who you were at first, and he doesn't like to tell people that I work 3rd shift and sleep during the day!! But I guess when he figured out you were my SB friend... he told ya where I was!! I did a 13 day run of straight 3rd shift with no off day, I slept A LOT!!!

I'm OP with a bowl of oatmeal so far today :) I plan to STAY that way!! I;ll check in after my Dr Appt and let you all know how round one of the blood tests went :)

Bye!!

Good Friday Morning Everyone:wave:

Didn't go for my walk today, I don't really have a good excuse for not going, I was feeling tired when I woke up and my legs felt fatigued but that hasn't stopped me so many times in the past but did today. I really should of pushed myself to go but I didn't have that strong desire to push and go so maybe I should be content with listening to my body today and not dwell on it.

At least I was a bit constructive, I started cleaning the kitchen. I'm going to tackle the 4th bedroom today, you have to walk over stuff it's so bad in there. It's too overwhelming to think about but is something I have to get done. I truly wish my house would be immaculate all the time, even 50% of the time but it's just not me, though I wish it were.

I finished last night with having some zucchini, a bit of sauce and topped with an ounce of cheese and that was it for the night. I ended up with a bit under 1200 calories and had approx 34%fat/37%carbs/34%protein and managed to get in 31 grams of fiber-not bad. Only had 1 starchy carb yesterday. Today I've already gotten in 25 grams of fiber between some Fiber One, raspberries and a tsp of carob. Anything above that is icing on the cake, not to mention a great DOOKIE HOUSER helper!:^:

MONET, LOL! Anyone who cooks other than me, you KNOW that food is going to taste better! It's more of a phenomena if I cook something everyone will eat! Glad you get pampered the way you do, besides being sick, I'm sure you deserve it! CONGRATS on losing that other pound-you'll be svelt come Janaury!!!! I may not recognize you!!!:)

ALEKA, have fun with your GF today!!!:D There's a FM up in Broward, but not in Dade where I live. I know there's one in NAPLES which is but doubt there's one in Ft. Meyers. BOB should know that area a bit better that she can tell you. Do you have any HFS in your area? Well, if you come to FL and I come up, you can always give me your shopping list of things you want and I'll be happy to do your healthy shopping for you and get you some things you may not be able to get up that way. Ingredients should try to say SGWW flour and yes, the sugar grams should be 3grams or under, per serving. Just remember not to go over that serving size. The more fiber a food has in it as well is worth looking at-I will go for a bread that has more fiber in it any day, well, as long as it tastes good and doesn't have other crap in it!

BETH, glad to see your post and hope all goes well with the Dr. appt today-let us know. 13 days straight, geez, you and ELI should pair up-you both are workaholics, oh, let's add SOLSHINE to the group too!

So much for starting in on the 4th bedroom...Eli just called and forgot to wear his holiday shirt to work which is now required on Fridays through the holidays so I have to jump in the car and drive over there. I think since I'm down by WILD OATS I'll stop in there and then head back home and hopefully get back in the mood to tackle this job!

Will check in later! Have a great weekend!

I finally finished the dress I was sewing for my daughter yesterday and it turned out perfect, I was so pleased! My last class is tonight and I am starting on pajamas for my little guy.

MONET- My kids are only 8,6 and 4 so that is pretty scary. I actually got them to fold the laundry last night and I must say, it does not look...normal. But beggars can't be choosers and I will take it because I had to finish that dress and just didn't feel like folding afterwards. My daughter (8) is pretty good but the boys  I think I will stick to the role distinctions in our family and have the boys shovel the snow and my daughter help with the laundry for now. When the boys get a little older I will certainly teach them how but for my own sanity that will have to wait. Congrats on the whole 12 lbs being gone again!!!! :cb:

FILLISE- I know that system that you use! I rarely revert back into it but sometimes when things get busy I have to send the kids in search of underwear in the clean baskets!

TRANQUIL-Hope you don't get sick. Send greetings to SERENE. Being sick is such a drag.

LDBLOND- Happy Birthday!

DEBELLI- Your kids are groovers! :cb: :cb: Doesn't it feel great?!

Okay, off to cut out a new pattern. Laundry is all folded except the load in the dryer now so at least I have recovered!

Debelli

I wanted to tell you how important it is to listen to your body when it's telling you to rest! I used to push myself till everything was done. I had 2 strokes at the age of 32. Granted it was later found that I have a vascular condition that can cause strokes but I wonder if my pushing my body to the limit all the time was a factor. As far as housework: It's not going anywhere!

Honestly I have better things to do with my time then worry about waxy buildup on my kitchen floor ;)
I know you spend a lot of time with us and this board. Internet stuff is time consuming.
I wish my house was sparkly clean 24/7 but I figure there is time for that when I'm old and have nothing better to do with my time :)
You are very hard on yourself! Slow down and look at all the good stuff you do!

ALEKA: It is my understanding that Campbell's Cream of Mushroom soup is ok. The sugar grams per serving are less than 3, I believe. I don't eat the sauce after the chicken is done, but just what clings to the piece I eat. I use Cream of Chicken and Cream of Celery too. Someone correct me if I am wrong....

I finally feel like I an recovering from the post election funk! I get so wired the last few weeks that it takes me a few days to come down after an election and then all I want to do is sleep for a week! It is kind of like I've been sick--I find that I tire very easily and really have to pace myself getting back to a full schedule.

Today I'm heading over to the PetSmart in Columbus to buy Miss Belle a crate for our Thanksgiving trip. She is going to NC with me and this will be her first trip. She does not like being in the car--so this is going to be an adventure!

Monet--I use Cream of Mushroon too--in my chicken and rice soup (one cup of cooked brown or converted rice, one can of chicken broth, one can of cream of mushroom soup, and one can of chicken meat). It's a great and fast hot meal on a cold night--and it make enough for a couple of lunches too. Take care of yourself because I plan on a big day when I get to Atlanta!

Gracious--did I mention that I don't have an underwear drawer? I just use off the drying rack in the spare bedroom.

Deb--I'm still working on getting back on track--but you sound like you are doing pretty well. Thanksgiving isn't usually much of a problem for me since I do the cooking on Thanksgiving day. Turkey is ok--as are the veggies I make. I make stuffing out of SGWW bread--the whole family eats it and loves it. I make everyone's favorite pies--including an apple pie for me. I make it with WW crust and agave--it is very rustic and quite good! Once people start trotting out the Christmas goodies, however, that's a whole nother story! BTW--What is an A1A?

Beth--are you in Hunstville? I've got to be up that way for a speaking engagement next week. I thought I'd come in Tuesday night--I speak Wed. morning and then I have to head back to Auburn. But I'd love to get together if you have some time!

Aleka--we too are expecting nasty weather today and tomorrow. I hope it is over by the time the game starts--this is the first game I've been able to attend all year! You have a beautiful name!

Heart--glad to hear that Boogie's last checkup was a good one! I know it has to be a refief to have his surgery behind you! Now you can concentrate on taking care of yourself! It's hard, but you are certainly worth it!

BOB--How old is Skeeter? And what's this about your mom carrying on with the orderlies??????

SEF--slow down and take a breath!

I have to get to work now. Have a great day everyone!

Well, I've got good news and bad news:

First the good news: I have broke my two month stall! I am down almost 2 lbs!:cp: :cb: The scale said 164.2 (almost 163!) Yea, I will take it. (I have a friend who wanted to start weighing on Fridays now, so we do WIF now)

The bad news: Open house was a nightmare. I rec'd Amber's report card:

French II: D+
Biology I Honors: C
World History Honors: B
Engish Honors II: D
Geometry: C
TV Production: C+
Business Systems and Tech: B

I feel like I have failed as a mother....:?: You always feel like this is a direct reflection of the parent. I really truly feel bad.

These are her consequences:

During the week, she is NOT allowed to attend any after school activities. (She's in the Medieval Club and they do Medieval dancing, swordfighting, cooking, etc. after school almost every day) She is also not allowed to use the computer during the week. (She is on the internet for hours every night) Obviously, not for school work! She is also not allowed to have friends over after school for any reason. She has a limit of one 30 min phone call a night to talk to her best friend.

In addition to that: She must have A's and B's in ALL of her classes in order to drive her car, attend Renaissance Festivals, concerts, or any other special events.

I told her that if her grades do not go back to A's and B's, I will sell her car as I pay for her car insurance and gas, etc....

I also had small quick conferences with all her teachers last night and I am writing letters to all of them, including her guidance counselor and the Vice-Principal.

That's it. I'm afraid to ground her completely over the weekends since I pretty much cut off all contact with her friends during the week. I don't want her to run away if you know what I mean.

Thanks for letting me share my troubles....

Bob: I never rec'd your e-mail. Pls e-mail me again at Goldilocks1963@aol.com Sorry! What kind of pet do you have?

Laurie: Sorry you're up 4 lbs due to the munchies and alcohol! But, I'm glad Boogie's appt was good...

Beth: Good luck at the Doctor's appt today! What do you do for a living that requires shift work?

Monet: Congrats on keeping the 12 lbs off! I wish I could lose that much in that short of a period! Thanks for the nice things you said about my Mom. She is a rare mom that's for sure..
Sounds like a yummy dinner too!

Aleka: Have fun X-mas shopping! Counting points is the way to go on the WOE! You will lose much faster doing that. I use cream of mushroom soup ON OCCASION. It's a lot of sodium too. We are supposed to stay away from corn or potato based soups.

Gracious: You're sewing sounds challenging (at least for me) I can barely sew a button on! I bet your daughter just loves special clothes like that.

Susan: What kind of pet is Miss Belle?

Debbie: I love your "boobie smashing" analogy! LOL! I try to avoid those because they are tOOOO painful. Your daily diet is like pure perfection. I wish I could get my own diet down to a science like that! :) You're doing awesome and will lose that weight before know it. Michael's student film sounds VERY exciting for him. Again, you must be soooo proud. Also, it's good to listen to your body when you feel tired..It's really trying to tell you something. I would love it if everyone could also cheer my Mom at the finish line. This will be her first full marathon. Thanks for your support as always...

Howdy to Cheryl!! and everyone else I missed!

Have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend!

Well... no news yet about the cyst... still waiting for the report from yesterdays VCUG test.

The OB/GYN has OFFICIALLY diagnosed me with PCOS today. My fasting insulin was 24 and I believe the high is 17 so I'm also classified pre-diabetic... insulin resistant or something like that. Anyway... I'm on Glucophage, and something for hair loss, and Yasmin BCP (which I had already been taking and quit) She wants me to start them back because she says they're good for PCOS. Anyway... a few months on the meds and I should start seeing a difference :) She did say that one of the side effects of the Glucophage was weight loss... oh DARN!!!:s:

Anyone else out there using any of this stuff your input is appreciated :) If you don't wanna talk about it here, Private message me or Email me at DavesGirl2374@aol.com. I'd love a few pen pals!!

It sure does make a BIG difference to know there is a REASON that I'm having a hard time with my body!!! Losing my hair, growing little hairs on my chin (WTH???) sweating like a pig... I'M NOT ALONE IN MY WEIRDNESS!!!!!! I feel pretty good about it. Even tho it's a lot of medicine... I still feel better about taking a few pills a day and feeling better and better about myself!

I do think it's a blessing that I decided to start SB and get familiar with it before this diagnoses, because now I know I NEED to do it for my health... not just for how I look!!!! This is the motivation I need to stay on PLAN!!! (Of course nerves led me to a box of Krispy Kremes this morning... and I ate 3... but I can start over RIGHT NOW!!!) I WILL KEEP MY BODY HEALTHY! I have to... my kids deserve to have a grandmother for their kids that is healthy and happy and can play with them :) Even though that's 20 years down the road... if I don't start now, by then I'll be in horrible shape or even gone :)

Thanks for the support everyone and I'll keep y'all posted!! You're good 'listeners' :)

Bye

Hi y'all. Soooo glad it's Friday. No big plans for the weekend. Just the usual house keeping stuff.:p I'm not totally off the wagon, but I'm hanging on for dear life and dragging my toes in the dirt. I'm hoping now that TOM is gone I'll be better.

BETH: Well at least you have one answer for your symptoms. Hope the meds help. And hey, weight loss would be a great side effect, huh?

DENISE: Sorry about the not so good report card news. I know it's tough to take away privileges, but stick to it. WTG on the 2 lb loss.:)

CHERYL: Strokes at 32? Wow. Do you suffer any after effects from them. My dad had several strokes, but he was much older when he had them. I do like your attitude toward housework tho. Gotta stop and smell the roses.:flow2:

GRACIOUS: WTG on finishing that dress. I make my kids fold laundry. :yikes: It's not always perfect, but that's OK. Maggie (the 3 yr old) does the "washy rags".

MONET: Hooray for you! WTG!

Gotta go. It's pep ralley time. :cb: We're in the playoffs. You TX girls will understand what a biggie that is.

BETH: I take Glucophage. Now that the doctor has my dosage up to where it needs to be, I think it is helping me to lose. I have lost five pounds this week since Monday, when I started back on it after two or three weeks off while I was recovering from Mono. It is supposed to help with weight loss. A friend of mine's daughter started taking it and lost 15 pounds the first month! Are you taking the XR or the plain? How much are you taking? I was on the plain, but switched to the XR, taking two morning and evening. I make sure I have a decent meal when I take it, so I don't get any stomach upset with it. Let me know if you have any questions. I am not an expert, but I am happy to share my opinions! ;)

Beth2374

Monet - I take regular 500mg twice a day. The plan is to get me up to 2000mg a day (1000mg twice a day) I'm not using the XR. I just took my first dose with lunch... I'll take the second with a late dinner since I work till Midnite. How long did it take to start seeing results when you started taking it?

Fillise - YES... I AM in Huntsville, and I'm not an axe murderer... just ask JRed!! I'd love to get together somewhere to say HI. I get off work Tuesday Morning at 8am and will wake up about 4pm... then I don't go back to work till 4pm Thursday so you picked GREAT days to come :) Email me and we'll work out something even if it's just for some StarBucks :) DavesGirl2374@aol.com

OK... I'm off to work!! :)

Ellen
11-15-2002, 05:45 PM
BETH: I have been taking the Glucophage for a while now...I started with the XR, then went to the regular, and now he has me back on the XR. I honestly did not see much in the way of results up until he increased my dose which I started on this past Monday. Most people see faster results, but my dose was not large enough. Just make sure you drink plenty of water with it, and get some exercise. If you get dehydrated on it, you can get some kind of chemical buildup in your muscles which is not good. Can't remember what is it called! I hope the Glucophage works for you. My doctor was really disappointed that it did not for me at first. He was sure it would. I should have known it would take a larger dose. There is something freaky weird about my body...it is very resistant to drugs. Like it takes three ibuprofen to make any kind of dent in a headache for me, and it took twice what they expected to get my thyroid levels to where they were supposed to be... Anyway, keep me posted!

Hi Beth,

well, at least you found out one thing that is wrong and that is good. I may make an appt for the doctor too and see if he can test for that. I seem to have a lot of those symptoms too.

Tina: Thanks for your support, I will keep the reigns tight! :)

Talk to you on Monday.

Everyone seems to be wondering why Muslim terrorists are so quick to
commit suicide. Let's see now.
No beer
No booze
No bars
No television
No cheerleaders
No baseball
No football
No basketball
No hockey
No golf
Soccer only, and all the time
No tailgate parties
No hooters
No pork BBQ
No hot dogs
No burgers
No lobster, shellfish, or even frozen fish sticks
Rags for clothes and towels for hats
Constant wailing from the guy next door because he's sick and there are
no doctors
Constant wailing from the guy in the tower
No chocolate chip cookies
No Christmas
You can't shave
Your wife can't shave
You can't shower to wash off the smell of donkey cooked over burning camel dung
The women have to wear baggy dresses and veils at all times
Your bride is picked by someone else
She smells just like your donkey
But your donkey has a better disposition
Then they tell you that when you die it all gets better!
No mystery here.

There is snow on the ground this morning and it's still snowing.

I got some really good baragins yesterday. I bought someone a Christmas gift, 2 porcelin vases (a set)
that originally cost $30.00. With the sale and an extra 20% off I got it for around $13.50!:cb:

BOB, I love that post about why the muslim terrorists commit suicide. Congratulations on losing another lb.:high: That's fantastic 17 lb. since Oct. 1st. I've been on WW since Sept. 24th, and I've only lost 7 (hopefully 8 this week:crossed: )

Fillise, thank you for saying that about my name. It is my real name in Hawaiian. DH & I went their many years ago on our honeymoon, then for my 50th b'day a few yrs. ago, he took me back there. What kind of animal is Miss Belle? That is a terriffic name!

Beth, it's such a relief to finally know what is wrong with you. Do you have to keep going back for follow ups to make sure the meds are working?

Debelli, thanks for the info. on the FM. We do have some healthfood stores, but they are literally little holes in the wall. There is a Trader Joe's in Nashua, NH which is a pretty long haul, and they don't have a good selection. We do go to Mass. a lot, and usually stop in at a Bread & Circus or a Trader Joe's down there. Also, in 2 of our supermarket chains, Shaws & Hannaford Bros., have a healthfood section that's really pretty decent.

Have to go and help DH wrap our bushes before we get too much more snow.

Bye for now. Aleka

Mornin Y'all... I'm gonna be meeting someone today who wants to take a few of these darn hamsters off my hands. (Y'all remember my hamster fiasco...LOL)

BOB - I'm not sure what the Dr tested for... but out of every hormone test she ran... my testosterone was in the High end of the Normal range... it was like 60 on a scale of .08-80... and my DHEA levels were elevated... 365 and the norm is below 340. She retested the DHEA yesterday, I should hear something next week. Then my fasting insulin was 24 on a scale of 4-17. She thinks I'm practically textbook PCOS... and my mom is 48 and still no menopause yet... but she has all the signs of PCOS too so she's going to see my OB/GYN next month!!!

MONET - I'm taking the regular... 500mg two times a day. She wants to work me up to 1000mg two times a day. I took the two doses yesterday... and now I'm just DRAGONARSE!!! It may be also due to this sinus crud I'm getting... but I see some of the side effects are feeling run down. I read about the lactic acidosis problem. I upped my water intake yesterday, and will try and stick with it. I know I need to, so that should help.

Hope everyone has a great Weekend!! We're supposed to get some snow flurries down here in ALABAMA tonight... go figure. It'll never happen, but we can dream :) LOL!!

OH... and I wanted to vent about something...LOL. My BIL is 16. He has a friend who is the same age that he has been hanging out with, and my MIL has become friends with this kid's mom. Well the friends parents have gone thru a NASTY divorce. My BIL asked the lady one day if he could use their 4wheeler... she said she didn't have the keys, but if he could get it started, he could. Well these two boys figured out how to hotwire it...and have been playing on it. Apparently one of the dad's friends saw them, and told him there were kids on his 4wheeler (He has a restraining order and can't go near the house!) So he filed a police report for it being STOLEN. The mom is afraid of the dad, so she's not sticking up for my BIL when she TOLD him he could do this.... So... what a way to teach the youth of today to TRUST adults huh? Poor kid is beside himself... Thankfully I knew the Officer that was sent out and I called him on his cell phone and talked to him... and I knew the Sgt. on duty too... so I've been talking my head off pleading his case. I think we have it all worked out so BIL will get yelled at but nothing else :) Keep your fingers crossed for him. Poor kid will probably never trust a grown up again, this has REALLY shaken him up. That lady has no idea what she's done to undermine the trust of a kid.
OK... I'm done...LOL Sorry, but I needed that :)

See y'all Later!!!

I finally got a scale... and I got on it this morning. It seems to be hovering between 175-176 so I'll go with 176.

Not bad.... 3 pounds up from my all time low... since I've been more off plan than on for the last 3 months.

Now to get those darn repeat pounds off... and then make some REAL progress!!!!

YEEHAW~!! :)

HiedieHo All!!

What a lovely day we had yesterday! The Global Wildlife Center was a lot of fun. All sorts of deer, antelope, llamas, camels, bison, longhorns, zebras, giraffes, fowl, etc. No predators or territorial type wildlife. You go in wagon trains through the 900 acre complex. All free range. We were the only people on our train, so had the guide all to ourselves, it was very interesting questions and answers

Then we went to Petunia's Place in Mandeville, (Petunia is a pig!) It's definitely a good ol' Southern cooking place! They did have none southern Eggplant Parmesean, which I thought was the lesser of all the evils! I got double vegetable instead of fries, etc. No dessert.

Rains were predicted but it didn't happen so it added to the niceness of the day.

All in all a very good day. It is a great group of people.

MELF: Hope you feel better.

LARA: Sorry I missed the day, BLATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

DENISE: I am forgetting about the croisaants and moving on in a positive frame of mind.

HEART: Glad Boogie had a good report. Gives you a respite.

DEBBIE: Glad your GYN visit was okay. Today I am resting, I was supposed to go to a craft show with a friend but she had to babysit grandkids. I was glad as I am tired! Just going to making some sausage dressing for the church luncheon tomorrow. Other than that, I am curling up with a good book and the TV if there is anything good on!

MONET: Hmmmm WW croisaants......I wonder. Keep resting noo running around!

GRACIOUS: What a sense of satisfaction, finishing the dress. Maybe those clothes aren't folded YOUR way, but they are folded!

FILLISE: I never use the canned soups cause I thought them illegal. Your soup sounds very good. Will give it a try. love soups! Am resting today!

BETH: You really wonder about some adults. I can understand the fear the lady may have for her Ex but to let a kid take the rap! Not a good lady for your MIL to be friends with in MHO. Just stick with being OP and you'll see progress!

BOB: Liked the joke.

I did have an interruption here, my GD is in the throes of doing the Sadie Hawkins thing and has been in the grip of indecision, self doubt, you know "what if he says no?" thing. But he didn't! So we are happy.

Am going to go curl now with a cuppa and the paper.

To those I missed a hello, congrats or sorry or glad results are good.

Arkansas Love Poem

Susie Lee done fell in love,
She planned to marry Joe.
She was so happy 'bout it all,
She told her Pappy so.

Pappy told her, "Susie Gal,
You'll have to find another.
I'd just as soon yo' maw don't know,
But Joe is yo' half-brother."

So Susie put aside her Joe,
And planned to marry Will.
But, after telling Pappy this,
He said, "There's trouble still.
_
You cain't marry Will, my gal,
And please don't tell yo' mother,
But Will and Joe and several mo'
I know is yo' half-brother."

But Mama knew and said "My Child,
Just do what makes yo' happy.
Marry Will or marry Joe,

Blonde in Cajun Country...a dangerous combination!

A young blonde was on vacation in the depths of Louisiana and wanted a pair of genuine alligator shoes in the worst way, but was very
reluctant to pay the high prices the local vendors were asking.

After becoming very frustrated with the "no haggle" attitude of one of
the shopkeepers, the blonde shouted, "Maybe I'll just go out and catch
my own alligator so I can get a pair of shoes at a reasonable price!"

The shopkeeper said, "By all means, be my guest. Maybe you'll luck out
and catch yourself a big one!"

Determined, the blonde turned and headed for the swamps, set on
catching herself an alligator.

Later in the day, the shopkeeper was driving home, when he spotted the young woman standing waist deep in the water, shotgun in hand._ Just then, he saw a huge 9-foot alligator swimming quickly toward her.

She took aim, killed the creature, and with a great deal of effort hauled it on to the swamp bank. Lying nearby were several more of the dead
creatures.

The shopkeeper watched in amazement.

Just then the blonde flipped the alligator on its back, and frustrated, shouted out, "Darn it, this one isn't wearing any shoes either!"

OK, BOB - Here I am - dragging my sorry Butt back to the board!

Sorry I've been missing in action this week. I've been sick, along with my DD, and DS has been a terrible patient in recovering from his surgery. So, I've had plenty to take care of. Something came up every time I thought I could get on the computer long enough to do a post.

I have some really wonderful news to share! I am starting a new, full time job on Monday.:cp: The best thing about the new job is that I will be working in the same office as Tranquil! Actually, she is the one that got me hired as they had an opening and she suggested to her boss that he hire me. And, he did! I feel so blessed to be given such a great opportunity, especially since I've been out of the real work world for so many years. For those of you that don't know, I've been a homemaker for 19 years and am going through a divorce, my ex-2-b recently lost his job, so the financial picture has been rather bleak. I have been doing some part time work, however, not enough to make ends meet. So, please wish me luck as I'm rather nervous about it, probably because I've been out of the loop for so long. I'm hoping it's true than an old dog can learn new tricks easily.

Another positive thing about the job is that I will be busy during the day and not at home to head for the kitchen when I get stressed out. I have to admit to doing some stress eating lately, but my weight has stayed the same, luckily.

I've missed so much this week that I can't possibly get caught up, however, I will try to get in a few posts.

Beth, it is good to see you posting so frequently. I need to try to do the same thing. Hope you get all your medical issues straightened out quickly. I've had some Gyno issues going on also, however, I have to put those aside for now since I will no longer have insurance for a while. Good luck!

Monet, glad to see you are feeling better. I am hoping to visit my Dad in Atlanta before the end of the year. Maybe you will feel well enough that we could possibly meet??

Hi Crystle! Thanks for the big hug you sent my way. Sending one right back to you.

gracious - you sound like a very talented homemaker with the sewing and all that you do. It is a real job to be busy with kids all day and keep the house clean. I tried that for many years and know how difficult it can be. It was really frustrating to be busy with kids all day and then the husband come home and ask what I did all day because the house wasn't spotless.

Denise - Congrats on breaking your two month stall! My 14 y/o DD is struggling with some grades also. I understand what you mean about not wanting to be too hard on them, yet not being too easy at the same time. You can't blame your daughter's failures on your parenting skills. For instance: I grew up in the worst home situation. My Mom has been married 6 times, had severe alcohol problems and our home was always totally dysfunctional. She finally just abandoned my brother and me when I was 16. Yet, I managed to make good grades and be successful in school sports. Not to say that we shouldn't do what we can to help motivate our kids to do better, however, some things you will just have no control over and can't blame their every failure on your parenting. I didn't mean to get too far off track with this, just trying to give you some encouragement.

sef - enjoyed your belated Friday funnies. BOB, yours was good too.

Jackie - hope you've been having a wonderful time on your cruise.
The board just isn't the same without you. Can't wait to hear all about your trip next week, and maybe see some pics too??

Quilter - hope things are OK with you. You are missed!

It is a rainy day here in NE Fla., however that means we will have cooler temps to follow and that will be wonderful. No big plans for the weekend, just rest and get better before beginning work on Monday. I do need to get in my room and clean up. It is like your 4th bedroom Deb, having to walk over things.

Welcome to all the newbies, hope others that have been sick are feeling better, and hello to everyone else!

Take Care,
Wendy

SERENE: If you are coming to Atlanta, I will be well enough to meet up with you! I really am doing well, just tired and wanting to take it easy. I am at the stage that a few hours out will not be too bad, and if worse comes to worse, you can come here and I will lay on the sofa with all my pillows! tee hee! Where in Atlanta does your dad live?

BOB: I heard that! If I was more of a real DAWGS fan, I would know what time the game was, and who they are playing. Something tells me it is Auburn... Are you really going to root for Auburn and not Georgia? I am crushed! I think I will wander downstairs and find something to snack on!

What a day here in Hotlanta! Rain, rain and more rain. Hubby went to help some friends move, and has been gone all day. My teen age daughter is cleaning. If she cleans, I am supposed to stay upstairs in my room with the door closed while she is doing it. If I get hungry, and go get something to eat, she fusses at me. How did sweet little ole me manage to produce such a bossy daughter????

I'm just happy that my team is bowl eligible..!!

Glad you're resting some!

Good Saturday Evening All:wave:

I started a post yesterday and never finished it. Actually was typing it when I got knocked off and didn't try to get back on to see what part I lost, so I'll try to start anew. Though, there's really not much that's happened since.

Been up since 3am-ELI'S usually good about shutting the alarm off even before it goes off but not this morning, it was full blast and Spanish at that  I couldn't fall back asleep so I'm totally pooped. I tried to take a nap this afternoon but I swear, the phone hasn't stopped ringing, at least 10 phone calls, of course, all for the kids, which neither of them are home. I just hope come tonight I fall in to a deep dark sleep and not wake up once until the morning. Doesn't help matters that I'm coming down with a cold. Lauren's been sick for days and I think I'm getting her cold. I rarely get sick but I guess I'm due. Just hope this is the worst of it cause this I can easily handle. I guess my feeling not up to exercising on Friday was my body trying to tell me to take it easy!

Eating continues to be on track, water in take is a whole other story!

GRACIOUS, I admire anyone who can sew. You're lucky if I sew a button on to something and it stays! I saw this thing called a FLIP N FOLD which helps all the shirts come out the same when folding with this thing, maybe that would be good to get the kids when they want to help fold. I use to cringe when the kids would fold their own clothes, not that I didn't like them helping, but seeing them not folded "correctly" (my way) I wanted to refold them-had to restrain myself!

CHERYL, wow, I had no idea you went through that stuff at such a young age! Thanks! I did nd up and listen to my body and if you read above, good thing that I did. I can't imagine just how much more icky I'd be feeling if I'd of pushed myself out. I like your attitude about the house, cleaning and getting old. When I feel like an inadiquate housekeeper, I'll remember what you said:D

FILLISE, sounds like you tack on a lot of miles on your car-another NC trip. Glad to hear Ms. Belle will be keeping you company on this go-round. Has the crust you make been posted on the recipe board? If not, can you share it. AIA, is a stretch of road that runs along the beach-how'd you hear about that?

DENISE, CONGRATS on you 2lb loss and for sticking it out through such a long stall! It shows patience and persistence does pay off! I'm sure AMBER will bring those grades up this quarter. I think when something like that happens and they see the reality on paper AND feel the wrath of Mom that most kids will wake up and smell the coffee. You have NOT failed as a Mother and never think that way. She has the brains God gave her and it's her fault if she fails to use them. The only thing you can do is that now that you are aware of the problem is to deal with it as effectively as you can, which sounds like you have with the limitations you've given. A mother who's failed would look the other way and just throw up their hands, a mother who cares pushes the child along in the right direction, which you are trying to do. On to other stuff...Girl, boobie smashings don't hurt me a bit. When your boobs already look like they've been permanently smashed, it doesn't hurt a bit! I'm sure that I can speak for the group in saying we will be there to root your DM on at the finish line, I don't see why we couldn't!!!

BETH, I've said in the past that I truly believe I too had PCOS long ago but that it wasn't even something to diagnose back then. I had so much hair on my face it wasn't funny. So bad that I had to pluck them out because otherwise I'd of had a beard and my skin was soooo bad from that. Periods were ridiculously irregular and couldn't get pregnant. Of course, I was so severly over weight as well. When I lost the weight much of those things cleared up, and even though I still have some hairs that pop up, it's nothing like years ago. Thank goodness Mom does electrolysis!!! Anyhow, I'm sure things will get straightened out and everything will be okay-just keep us informed and take care of yourself!! Just remember, you are following the best WOE for those with PCOS and that was even before you knew you may have it!!!

BOB, good deal on the airfare! WOW, a traveling gal! CONGRATS on the continuing weight loss-you're doing awesome!:D It's raining here too-gez, couldn't you keep this to your self???

ALEKA, I LOVE TRADER JOES!!! If I had one within an 4-6 hour drive, I'd be treking up there without batting an eyelash! When I go to Vegas I hit all 3 TJ'S in that city and boy, you should see my luggage on the way back!

SEF, glad to see you are taking it easy today-you deserve to just lie down and relax on the couch, which is what I'm planning on doing in the next few minutes. See, I take my own advice;)

SERENE, glad to speak with you today and hope you are continuing to feel better. Once again, GOOD LUCK ON MONDAY! At least I know who you'll be having lunch with on a continual basis:) Lucky you, lucky both of you!

Okay, I'm outta here. I have the house to myself. ELI'S teaching an equipment maintenance class (how exciting, eh?), LAUREN'S at the movies and MICHAEL'S at a party, so I'm going to veg out on the couch and watch the boob tube. As the kids call it, MY WHITE TRASH SHOW, Cops, will be on in an hour-what a glamourous life I lead!!!LOL!!!

Good Sunday Morning!

WOW, the board sure is slow this weekend!

I thought I would of slept like a dead woman last night but it was quite the opposite, unfortunately. I had a hard time falling asleep and once I got to sleep had a hard time staying alseep. My mouth was so dry I felt as if I had a cats tongue-like dry sandpaper. I had to get up and get some water to take to bed with me. THEN, I had the worst gas along with everything else!!:fr: ELI made me some soup last night for dinner and I don't know what the heck he put in there, but my gosh, it sure must of contained some definite fart food. Thank goodness he slept like I hoped I was going to, like a dead person, because if he had ANY idea of the fumes he was breathing in as he took in those nice, deep, long breathes I think he would of moved to go sleep on the couch! What he doesn't know won't hurt him though:s: Sweet paybacks!

He's off until 6pm today so whatever we end up doing we'll have to be home by 5pm so he can get ready and go to work, though, if you ask me, I do believe he's suppose to be off today. Definitely going to Broward, don't care how crappy I feel. Actually, it seems to be just my throat and voice, nose isn't stuffy as it was last night. That and being over tired.

It rained a lot here last night, lots and lots of rain and woke up this morning to sprinkles and overcast skies. As much as I'd like to get out there and exercise today I think I have 2 good excuses. I really hope I'm feeling better so I can go tomorrow, when it's cold (okay, cold by Miami standards). Usually all you Northern gals laugh at me when I say it's cold down here when it's in the 40's and 50's and you're freezing your butts in below freezing weather-but hey, for here, it's cold to me!!!

BOB, I will ask your old fart sweetie about using your card # without the card, probably doable. We'll try to give you a call later today at some point so you can speak to him. Yes, DM has a hidden talent of being a great plucker! She's been doing this since I was a teenager but it wasn't til I was an adult til I had her work on my beard. She's really good at it too, though I do kid around with her and tell her I think she cranks up the voltage when she works on me or LESLIE, as payback for things we did as kids!!! LOL!!!

Well gals, I'm outta here. May crawl back in bed and just relax, really nothing else to do at this time but watch the boob tube or read.

Will check in later this evening.

Morning!

Well, confession time...I was terribly naughty last night. I went to Costco with Tom, then we stopped at the grocery store and finished the shopping. I was pretty tired when we got home, but not totally wiped out. It felt pretty good to get out, and I like being able to pick what groceries are bought... otherwise my Scottish husband will pick the cheapest brand..and sometimes that is just not a good idea! ;)

Tonight, I am going to church. Three nights out in a row! Wow, what an active life I am leading! The rest of the time, I spend in the bed, reading or sleeping.

Yesterday, I was much more controlled with eating. For some reason (PMS?) I wanted to eat everything in the house on Friday!

I had a dream last night that I had lost 80 pounds. Too bad it was only a dream!

Have a good day everyone!

GOOD SUNDAY AFTERNOON FROM 60 DEGREE FLA!!!!

I'm loving this weather...the wind is up and the temp is great!
I've got all the windows open, Skeeter has had his bath, I've got a big pot of homemade VEGGIE SOUP on the stove for later and lunch this coming week...Still no housework completed, but I'm heading to do laundry and then I'll think about doing the floors at least...and I guess I should clean the bath room!

Spoke to the FEERLESS LEADER this morning then she passed me on to ELI, and then later ELI called me again...WHAT A TREAT...

Didn't sleep again last night...after 3a.m. this time...Like Debbie, I thought I would no sooner fall into bed, but it wasn't meant to be!

No rain yet over here, but I hear it's supposed to get started at some point! We got over two inches of rain yesterday but it was much needed.

Well, I'm off...Will check in later...

MONET....BACK IN BED, AND I DON"T WANT TO TELL YOU AGAIN!!!! DON'T MAKE ME COME UP THERE!!!!

BOB: Woo hoo! Na na a boo boo! Come and get me! I would LOVE the company! Actually, I just took an hour and a half nap. My hubby will not let me walk around or anything tonight at church, and will probably drop me off at the door, and pick me up there. I imagine he will make me sit in the back and not stand for the hymns...

Where is everyone? What a dull group we are this weekend!

BOB- Congrats! 17 pounds is awesome!!

I'm fixing to post a few pics- the first is Monique and her son Jason(who also has a heart defect) along with Boogie(wearing hat) and myself(ew!) with the red hair. It was taken at the Philly Zoo two days before the surgery. It was really nice to know someone in Philly and she also worked at the hospital and her son also had open heart surgery by Dr.Spray, our surgeon.

Well hello Ladies: :)

It's been along time. I'm sure there are some old timers out there that will remember me. :o If not shame on me for being gone for so long.

I haven't had time to read the latest post, as it took me a full day to get back on the computer kept changing my password and telling me I wasn't logged in. But thank God I'm here now.

It's been so long and we've all been off SB. Well not so much off as eatting too much. Being Diabetic our family has to do the Sugar Free Way, but we eat too much. I've gained 30 lb s back in the yr I've been gone. A lot of it's been stress. My Daughter Dayna who is 17 has been going through some really stressful times and that makes me Stress out. I hate the teen yrs.

We have just found out that she is allergic to Wheat, Soy and peanut. Man that doesn't leave a whole lot for her to eat. I have to go to Natures which is a health food store here in Vancouver, A loaf of Spelt Bread cost 4.89. and man one cookie is 1.89. Boy does it add up fast. The Allergest tells me in two wks we can start reinterducing Wheat, then Soy and then peanut and see how she does. Just in time for the holidays. what fun.

Does anyone out there have a homemade recipe for Mayonaise I need to make her some. I've already made some cookies with the Spelt flour. I'm learning.

Well thanks for lessoning. I'm so glad to be back chat at ya tomorrow. Love Glory:D

MONET, better listen to BOB, she can be a real ball buster!!!!

HEART, oye, BOOGIE just seems to get cuter with each picture you post. Try sending me the other one and let me see if I can get it posted for you without the blur.

Found ELI a great T-shirt for Xmas-just see below-I thought it was hysterical!!

HiedieHo All!!

Well, my intentions were good......then a friend called and invited me over for a game of Scrabble. At least it wasn't strenuous and I won!

Also made some dressing with WW bread for the luncheon at church today. Came out very good, none left over.

Went to church today and have been lazing around ever since!

It will be a week in a hen house this week, DS is off on a business trip til Frday. That means I ease back on the cooking.

Tomorrow night have to be at the church to work on some music for the Christmas Contata with our director and the band leader.

Did not sleep well last night. Could not get to sleep so at 2a I'm up playing a couple of computer games. I'm addixted to Mah Jonng. Se some other people had trouble sleeping too, may be it's the moon!

I had to tease my son last night. He was complaining about being chilly and I said he was getting doft and turning Southern! Can't take a little brisk weather anymore!

Well, going back to rest some more. Tomorrow my merry-go-round startes again!

EVENING EVERY BUDDY!!!

GLORY....SO GLAD TO SEE YOU BACK!!! Hope you plan on hanging around for a while. Sorry about your DD, but I've been reading about wheat lately and it's not too good for ANYONE!! People don't even know that they have an intollerance to it. It's in so many things, and the only way to bypass is to make everything yourself.

HEART...Love the pics...

I'm off to bed...HOPEFULLY I CAN SLEEP...I have to work tomorrow and when I get there there will be three days of work to do!

My soup turned out SO GOOD!!!! Wish I could get all of you some

MONET....Hope you prayed for protection...One of us will be watching!!! GET TO BED THIS MINUTE!!!

BOB

DEB...Tell Eli not to worry about those canisters...just tell him to get me four of the ones on clearance...you know how I love bargains!!!

Hi all, hope everyone had a nice weekend.

This morning I rec'd a ticket for running a stop sign. :(
For the record, I am not guilty. Now, it was a rolling stop and I did not run it. (This stop sign is situated where there is no intersection or traffic either) It's hard to explain, but I did not truly run a real stop sign...You really have to believe me!:^:

Therefore, I spent $75 first thing this am and I didn't even go shopping! (I have to pay $75 to my attorney in Broward and he gets my tickets dismissed with no points or anything on my license. There is also no record of it, therefore, my car insurance does not increase either. He just goes to court and takes care of it for me. So this am, I've been faxing the ticket and my credit card info/forms to him) Oh well, that's life...

Amber continued with her attitude over the weekend. Hope she sees the light soon. Gary's relatives were still down from Buffalo this weekend, therefore lots of food around again. I didn't do so well this past weekend. (Amber didn't go since she refused to dress appropriately) Who knows what will happen during the holidays with her!! I had lasagna (illegal pasta) on Saturday, but I did not eat any of the cheesecake and bluberry cake they had out. On Sunday, I had (2) guwumpkies(stuffed cabbage), there was illegal rice in it, but I again did NOT have the chocolate fudge cake, etc. for dessert. This is like the first time that I have had any illegal food since starting this...OH, and I went to Ole Ole and forgot my SGWW tortillas, so I ate the corn tortillas anyway. I had a bad weekend. Then Sunday night I ate SF icecream!!! GEESH!!!:?: Oh well, I'm back on track today, eating very little carbs today and tomorrow to off set it...

Gary got my bike and my glider put together so I have lots of exercising options now...I love the glider, it's fun and something to do when I just want to watch TV and get some exercise in!!

Bob: e-mailed those recipe books to you. Hope you got them finally! I LOVE THE BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS! You are sooo lucky! I try to get up there every couple of years to the Asheville, NC and Boone, NC areas... Congrats on losing another pound! Loved the muslim joke. Sorry to hear you are also having trouble sleeping! You, Shirley and Debbie could start your own club!

Aleka: You're lucky to have the snow. Send some down here! Sounds like you got some nice things x-mas shopping and nice bargains.

Gracious: Thanks for your support re: my daughter. It is a very trying time for me and I will try to keep on loving her through it all...

Beth: What is this hamster fiasco about? Sorry you're up 3 lbs. Hope it comes right off for you!

Shirley: Your wildlife tour sounded exciting. Loved the estrogen jokes. Computer games are fun, but can be addicting at least for me! :) Try and get some sleep...

Wendy: :goodvibes Sending you warm wishes on your new job. You will do well!! Just stay confident and everything will fall into place. Thanks for all your encouragement re: Amber. If you can go through all that you did and come out with good grades, Amber surely can! Sorry you had to go through such a rough childhood.

Monet: You have a teenage daughter that cleans! That's amazing. You should write a book! :) Pls let me know what your secret is. Glad to hear that you got out of the house just for a little while. It's good to get some fresh air when you are sick. Don't worry, your dream will come true one of these days!

Debbie: Sorry to hear that Lauren's sick and that you may be coming down with it. Don't exercise, just take it easy. I love the T-shirt for Eli. Very funny! Thank you too for all your kind words re: Amber. It's a tough time and like you said, she' s got to want it and there is only so much that I can do...It's amazing that I finally broke that plateau, I just hope that I didn't gain it all back. I will find out on Friday.

Laurie: Your picture of your son looks adorable!

Glory: Welcome back. I'm fairly new. I can relate to the trying times of teens. I'm sorry that she has those allergies too. That's got to be hard to incorporate into a teens daily life. Hang in there!

Okay, going to go back to work. Take care and talk to you all soon.

HiedieHo All!

Slept better last night but was up at 6:30. No reason.....body just said time to get up!

Went to NH as usual. After jokes and some memory things I did a word find with Thanksgiving Day, they really seemed to enjoy it.

Tonight I went to to church and we cut and pasted music for a special.

DENISE: How many tickets do you get? You need a lawyer to take care of them? WOW you must stack up a lot!

GD just came home from an after school activity, needs the puter so have to leave.

Take care.

Shirley.
