General Diet Plans and Questions - November Exercise Challenge.

View Full Version : November Exercise Challenge.

This challenge is for the month of November. The challenge is to post the number of minutes that you will exercise (walking, wt lifting, cardio or what ever) until and including November 30th. As I calculate it, there are 26 days left in the month, so you take it from there to determine the minutes. You can post daily or once a week or at the end of the challenge, it's up to you. Hope you will take the challenge and good luck.

Now CHALLENGE yourself. If you have been doing 30 minutes every other day then go for a little more. Okay, here's mine.

I will meet or exceed 1035 minutes. I figured 45 minutes for 23 days of this month (taking Sunday as a day off).

Hi Semo,

I see your challenge and accept it!lol I'm from the LAWL board but thought i'd join your challenge, since i've been slacking off in this dept.

I have been slacking off of exercising for a whole month, going from working out 6days a week to 1day a week. I know, sad, sad, sad!lol

Well I do give myself Fri's off so starting tomorrow, I commit to working out 30-45min a day 6days a week. No exceptions. I know I can find the time to give myself 30min out of a day!

I'm in Semo!

Semo..Semo..Semo..Semo...what a gal!!!:bn:

Minutes per week 270! 4 x 270=1080 minutes:faint:

That's walking for 45 minutes 4x week=180 minutes, and doing my exercise tape 3x week for 30 minutes at least=90 minutes.

Hi all,

Semo, it's because of you and your challenge that I did my workout today. I haven't done anything since early last week. But I wanted to be able to come on and post that I did 35min of cardio today, so I want to say thank you for coming up w/ this challenge. It helped me get off my butt tonight!

For all others who need help, come join us, every bit counts!

November 6th ~ Day 2

45 minutes on the Orbitreck. OMG thought I was gonna die!!!
That's what I get for getting lazy.

980 - 45 = 935 to go!

KitKat: :cp: WooHoo and a pat on the back from one exercise dodger to another. Back when I was doing so well exercising I was in a monthly challenge similar to this one and it kept me going. Thanks for doing this with us, hopefully we can keep it going for months and months. :strong:

For anyone else that might want to join us, just jump in....just post minutes from today until the end of the month that you will pledge. No excuses why you should wait until the next one starts.

Hi Semo!

I realized that I didn't post my minutes from yesterday's workout till the end of the month, so I have 870min to complete by 11/30 minus 30mins from yesterday: 840mins to go!

I'm glad you did your tortorous orbiktreck, it feels good when it's over but boy does it hurt when your in the process!

I would defintely love to keep this going! I need to be accountable to some one. What do you have scheduled for tomorrow? I think i'm doing 40mins of cardio tonight, can't make up my mind.

Hey KitKat. I've already done 15 minutes of weight lifting this morning and I'm not sure what I'll do tonight. I have quite the collection of exercise tapes so I'm thinking it will be Walk Away the Pounds or Ballero. I'll have to hurry home to use the VCR before my husband beats me to the tv. Think I'm gonna put VCR on my Christmas list so I can have one for the bedroom.

Kitkat3NY

You've already done 15mins of weights? That's great! I use to have a problem w/ the tv/vcr when I first starting use video tapes, but no more. Even knows that this what I do and they have to just give me that 30-60mins to workout and then they can have the tv back! lol Tell you husband to read a book while you w/o. lol

I'm so proud of myself.. I beat hubby home and put in the three mile Walk Away the Pounds tape in and finished the 45 minute tape. WooHoo, that's a total of one hour exercising for yesterday, after I add my 15 min weight lifting that I did in the morning.

November 7th ~ Day 3

935 - 60 = 875 minutes to go.

Good Morning!

Semo, i'm happy you made it home before you hubby! I did my workout again last night. Wow, you've really helped me out w/ this challenge! I'm so glad i joined!

840min - 30mins from last nights workout. 810mins left!

What's on plan for today? I may do 30mins more of cardio and then maybe some total body weights tomorrow.

Well let's see.....I did 10 minutes on the orbitreck this morning and will probably do another tape tonight. I should be able to get out of here on time (4:30) DH gets off at 4:30 also but has a 30 to 45 min drive, and it only takes me 10 min to get home.

KitKat: What types of cardio do you do? I have a variety of tapes and get bored pretty quick with the same one/type everytime. I like to pick different tapes according to the mood I'm in. I have yoga, taeBo, Walk Away the pounds, Ballero (sp), several of the older firm, and some generic. The only exercise equipment that I've ever stayed with has been my orbitreck, I've had it for over two years now and still use it several times a week. Everything else has ended in a slow death of dust at yard sales.

DNW: Where are ya kid-o????? You don't have to post everyday but for me it's easier to keep track if I do.

Work calls so I gotta scoot.

Hi Semo,

I hope you make it home before DH today. I have tons of tapes. I usually do Firms or Cathe and some Karen Voight. If you haven't heard of Cathe, check out : www.cathe.com she's the best! Very intense, always hits the post. She has great step, hi/lo and weight tapes. the Firm i've been doing them for the past 8yrs, they are great as well. If you don't know or if you do, you can check out and order a free catalog from www.collagevideo.com they update their catalog every 3mths. They most of the tapes that are released to the public. Very cool. tonight I might do 30mins of one of Cathe's cardio.

Semo, WARING, SITES CAN BE ADDICITIVE! lol I need more tapes like I need a whole in my head, but I have already preordered Cathe's 6new tapes. I just bought the firms new 6pack that was released this past summer. Karen Voight has a tape out called burn and firm that i've got my eye on. Also, the firm is coming out w/ a new informericial around Jan, and they will have 3new tapes out. Fitprime (Anna Benson the creator of the firm has her own company now called Fitprime.com ) has a 4pack coming out. Boy, where do I find the time. But I would trade my tape collecting hobby for anything in the world. lol I introduced my mom to Lesile Sansone and she loves her tapes. Collage carries a wide variety of Leslie tapes, so get your credit card ready!

Welcome HockeyChick, the more the merrier!

Hey KitKat, do you have any suggestions on a video that would be good for weight lifting. I looked at the web site that you mentioned but really don't know which to start with because I'm not familar with her videos. I'm not really looking for cardio and I don't really want to invest, nor do I want to store a bar bell with weights. I have dumb bells (I think that sounds sooooooo funny) in 2, 5, 8, and 10 pounds and looking for upper body mostly. Appreciate any help in this area.

I'm watching the clock too, never fails tho when I'm ready to jet I'll get a last minute something or other to do.

Kitkat3NY
11-11-2002, 06:10 PM
Hi Semo,

I think you should start off w/ The Firm. go to
www.collagevideo.com and do a search for The Firm or you can go to QVC and purchase the firm videos from there. They have a sculpting body kit to start you off w/. Or if that's a little steep you can purchase their new 6pack videos which is what i'm using to get back into the swing of things or you can go to their website
www.firmdirect.com and look through their video collection. You also can pick up their videos like walmart, target, FYI, suncoast video, but the best place to get them is from QVC and Collagevideo.

Let me know if you need more help picking out tapes, I could take about The Firm and Cathe all day.

I've been using the firm videos for the past 10yrs now. Since i'm more advanced now I've moved on to Cathe, but I always come back to the firm. I try to incorporate both when I can. A lot of us start off w/ the firm then move on as we get more advanced but the firms can be incorporated for all levels.

Thanks Kathy, I've got several of the older firm tapes so I'll go home and dig around in that cabinet. I think the reason that I got discouraged with the firm tapes, was that I am so uncoordinated when it comes to following grapevines and box, those types of moves are dificult to follow when you are a total klutz and have no rhythm. Gotta go they are turning out the lights.

Kathy, I pulled out one of my Firm upper body tapes and did it last night. Just one question "Are they trying to KILL ME, or what?" No I really liked it (no dancing around) and was worn out by the end of the thing. Goodbye shoulder pads and Hello muscles.....

I did MBC (Mind, body connection by Lesia Hart) this morning, felt that I needed some power yoga to sooth my stiff muscles.

Gotta get to work, you all have a good day.

Hi Semo,

I'm so glad you pulled out your old firms. What tapes do you have? I think the new firm tapes are easier on the knees than the older firms. I did my workout last night I 30mins of Body Sculpt Blaster, from the new firms 6pack. it was good and efficient. Do you have a tall box "fanny lifter" or step?

Kathy, I'll have to look at the titles of my tapes, I know there is a set of four then some odds and ends that I've picked up along the way. I have been using just a step that my niece gave me, sure wish that I could buy the taller one without buying the tapes. I keep looking at it thinking that I could probably have one made. I'll try and remember to jot down the names of the tapes that I have tonight.

Kitkat3NY
11-12-2002, 12:03 PM
Semo, you can buy the tall box "fanny lifter" without buying the tapes. I think it's being sold for $55.00 at www.firmdirect.com or www.collagevideo.com just look under accessories. I was meaning to tell you that you should apply online or call Collagevideo and request a free catalog. They update their catalog every 3mths w/ tons of instructors that you don't see in stores. I know they have a few firm tapes that you don't see in stores. Heres a run down of a few firm tapes that are begginner and intermidiate friendly that I think are a good deal.

Fat Blaster

Maximum Body Sculpting (my personal fav)

Super Sculpting

Tough Tape2 (don't let the name scare you. lol)

Cardio Step Mix (this one is hard to find, you'd probably have to buy it from a swap, I think you could find a swap at Fitprime.com, videofitness.com and
FirmYaYas@************ (my fitness home)
and the new 6pack:
Super Body Sculpting
Super Cardio Sculpting
Body Sculpt Blaster
Cardio Sculp Blaster

and oh yes the sculpting kit that they sell in the informercial. Have you seen the firm informercial?

Kathy: I went home at lunch and here are the Firm tapes that I have:
4 in a package (firm parts)- 5 day abs, standing legs, tough tape 2, upper body. Then, Complete aerobic weight training (total body workout), Sculpted buns, hips and thighs (tough aerobic mix) and cross trainer (hare workout)

The Fanny lifter is $55 and I can buy the whole system for $76.34 from qvc. I just hate to spend anymore money on something that I'm not sure that I will do. Still think that I could get someone to make a box that would work. We'll see how it goes.

You could also restart your tape and do an additional ten minutes, or dance or just plain old floor exercises. Well My Ladies:

Bit the bullet again and renewed my membership at the stinky man's gym. What is this gym? It's actaully called Ultimate Fitness and is on the bottom floor of a local Holiday Inn. It is not owned by the hotel...but their guests use it so I think the owners of the gym get a break on the rent.

Anyhow, only muscle guys go there and a few women, and the place isn't the greatest looking but it's huge and has lots of weights and circuit training machines, and many treadmills. Also when it is full of the muscle guys it does get a bit stinky, but these guys are so helpful...and I don't have to look at any Gym Hootches (Tiff's terminology for the leotarded, thonged skinnies!).

We women who go there are serious, so we wear serious sweat pants, cause we sweat and also get stinky.

Oops almost forgot....70 minutes of exercise at the gym this morning (cardio and weights).

775-70= 705 minutes to go.

Tkae care all!!

Congrats DNW! Back on the track or treadmill should I say. This is gross, but does your sweat smell different when you lift weights or exercise verses just getting hot when the temp is up? Mine does and I just wondered if this is normal.

Went to visit my friend at the hospital yesterday and with it being an hour drive one way I only have 15 minutes of exercise to report for yesterday. :( It was late when I did get home, then had two hungry guys waiting on me. I swear they would starve before they would look in the frig. Anyway, they do a lot of good stuff so I shouldn't complain when they don't.

Tuesday, November 19th ~ day 14

440 - 15 = 425

KitKat, sorry about your back, take care of it and don't push anything until it gets all better.;)

Gotta run.

KitKat: Thanks for the good cheer I need all the encouragement I can get. See the fat devil is always on my heels:devil:

Semo: I think we spew out more toxins when lifting weights, at least that has been my, and apparently the stinky guys experience, too. But it is a good sweat, very healthy.

Ah-A-h-h-h!! New motto: "If you're stinkin', you're shrinkin' ".

DNW: You are a funny one! "the fat devil?" hey I know that guy, when you shake him loose make sure he doesn't come snifin round my parts! lol

Kathy, take care with your back, we don't want you to push yourself then pay a bigger price later.

Sorry I havent' posted in so long I have exercised a total or 135 minutes since I posted a week ago. I am not getting in 30 minutes a day right now, but I am just happy that I am getting in the 20 consistently. I am sorry to have let you down on this one. I will join up the first of the month next month and make some adjustments to my schedule so that I can meet my goal. I am not going to make it this month. I am losing though (27# in 11 weeks which i am happy about), so I must be doing something right!

Erin, sorry but we are not going to let you off the hook that easy!:drill: Now here is a high five for getting your 20 min in daily. :high: We want you to keep posting your time everyday, you have not let anyone down, you know things happen and we do the best we can. Finish out this month (believe me if you stop posting until the next one starts you will quit exercising...been there and done that) and get ready for December knowing that you stuck with it thru November. :grouphug:

kitkat: Give your back a break and see if you can do some sort of exercise that is not too strenuous...maybe your best bet is carido for a couple of days until your back is OK again....back injuries can escalate :chin:...take care.

Erin: Don't give up before the miracle happens :wizard: ...we want you here with us..with or without exercising..you can't stay motivated if you don't talk to us right? I haven't done very well myself, but no matter how many minutes I get in it's still a positive....not a negative...negatives are weight gains...everything else is a positive...ask Semo!:smug:

Ok all I did this month in exercise was h-m-m lessee....

Beginning 1080 minutes, balance left 410 minutes...

Exercised 670 minutes this month...not bad, not bad at all....I think whoever exercised any amount was a winner this month but I think Semo probably is the winner she was real close to finishing with "0".

Congratulations to all on the challenge! ;)

Hi everybody! Sorry that I have been MIA but my kids have been here since Wednesday and all I've done is cook and pickup. Okay I did shop all day Friday, OMG I left the house at 6:30am and didn't get home until 7pm. My sister and I always meet for a shopping marathon the day after Thanksgiving.

Okay, I don't know what days I did exercise but had two one hour days, so I came up short on my goal by 35 minutes. If I had only posted on here I would have realized that I COULD HAVE MADE IT!!! But to late now and we are on to a new month.

I'll start the new thread first thing in the morning. I'm too tired to figure out the minutes at the moment.
