Default By George, I think I've got it!

I was in a pretty good mood yesterday. I had some good things going on at work, my daughter had her first date and my husband and son were out playing catch. After dropping off my daughter at the corn maze, I drove to the grocery store with all intentions of getting something that tasted very good, but was very bad for me. I was giving myself a pass. I had a little money in my pocket for the first time in weeks and I felt like splurging.

I immediately headed for the Ben and Jerry's which tends to be my go-to treat for the days I am being bad. They weren't on sale so I considered the 3 for $10 half gallons and then walked by those. Then I had a brilliant idea! Cheesecake! I went to that case and couldn't find one that had a sampling of a bunch of flavors so I moved on. The next case was filled with all kinds of yummy cakes. I looked through them all but by then was thinking of the frozen turtle pies in the freezer section and headed back.

On the way, I found my every night staple, Jello sugar free puddings that were on sale so I picked up a couple packages. It then occurred to me, that since my husband and son were going to McDonalds, I could eat whatever I wanted for dinner. Anything I wanted! I could do that and still get dessert! I was so excited! But when the turtle pies were more than I remembered, I made a decision and called my hubby who hadn't quite left Mickey D's. I asked him to bring me home a chicken ranch salad, 260 calories and another 80 for some dressing. I left the grocery store with only my sugar free pudding and ended the day under my allotted calories.

I have found myself able to resist the free baked goods on the table of my second job and potlucks coming out of the ying yang at my first job. This is so out of character for me. Before I used to hope that people didn't notice how many of the free cookies or plates of food or pieces of cake that I would bring back to my desk.

I think that I have figured it out. I think that I will be able to do this for life. That is a good feeling!

You should be proud of yourself, sometimes it is just so hard to resist but does get easier over time.
