Wishing you the best of luck. Is it a needle biopsy?

I had my mammo yesterday and am having a needle biopsy scheduled in the next two weeks, that's why I am asking.

Still praying for you, and now for Sea Wave too. When I had mine I asked if they had anything for pain/anxiety and they gave me something to dissolve under my tongue, I didn't feel a thing. I'm sorry I don't remember what it was called, but you might ask if you are anxious.

I have had needle biopsies and I won't kid you. they hurt, but it is very quick . It is over in less than a minute.

For me, the worst part was after the needle was inserted and he did whatever he needed to do. There was a lot of pressure and pain and I was sweating bad and feeling nauseous and the doctor kept telling me not to vomit cause it would cause me to move and I had that needle in me. Not fun at all. It was about 5 minutes for the needle part but was the worst 5 minutes of my life :/. They were giving me lidocaine the entire time but it didn't help me 100%.

I hope you get an "all clear" so you can put all this worry behind you and get on with your fit, fabulous life!

Yeah, it was unpleasant for me. I don't think I could ever do another biopsy that way again. Hopefully I will know the results soon. Good luck with your biopsy too

Some pathologists are better at doing this than others. It's kind of like dentists some really hurt when they give you novacaine and others are not so bad, My experience with needle bipsies was not as bad as Michelle's I have had three by different Pathologists, they hurt like everything but it was over and done with very quickly . I guess it all depends on who is doing it. It is not enjoyable at all but Michelle seems to have had a more difficult time. I pray that it turns out to be benign.

RobinD
10-19-2010, 09:00 PM
Well, mine won't be in my boob - it's a suspected tumor on my salivary gland, so they'll be jamming the needle in my neck. As horrible as that sounds, it's much closer to the skin so I doubt it will be so bad.

Getting older ain't for sissies, is it?

PaulaM

Gosh Michelle that sounds awful. They gave me a valium to take 1 hour before the procedure, and then a novocaine like drug. It still hurt like the dickens, and I was all bruised the next day, but it was bearable. I am so sorry they hurt you.
Hugs your way.

I don't remember getting anything to relax me when I had a breast needle biopsy, but I didn't ask, either. I guess it didn't occur to me. I do remember it being uncomfortable but not too bad. Mine was done by a radiologist and he was very understanding when I started crying. I had been rushed from mammogram to ultrasound to biopsy in the space of a few days, and I was really, really scared.

Mine turned out fine and I'm sending positive thoughts your way, Michelle, that yours will to.

Yeah, I had a mammogram on the 11th, a magnified mammogram on the 12th, the surgery on my back the 13th then the stereotactic biopsy today. It is a lot to deal with in a short period :(

Bless your heart...that is terrible. I have a calcified place they keep looking at each year. I have never had to have a biopsy though. I never realized how bad these were.:yikes: I'm so glad your home and this is over for you. I will pray again that you will hear good news back from your doctor.

I am so mad they wouldn't give you a valium or something! So, so sorry you had to go through this. :(

I do hope now that it's over you are able to get a good night's rest and some of the built-up stress of anticipation will go away and give you some peace of mind. Sending tons of positive thoughts, virtual hugs, and comfort to you! Hang in there.

Sorry it was such an ordeal. I've only had needle biopsies on my thyroid so I can't compare. I had punch biopsies for the breast cancer and lymph nodes, which hurt like the dickens. They don't give valium, etc. here either - just a local topical aenesthetic. Crossing my fingers that your results are benign - most times it is, but it's the waiting that drives us all crazy!!!

I have had several types of biopsy- a regular needle biopsy, and the stereo-tactic biopsy.

The second was far and away the toughest- no comparison. Surgery was easier.

I really know what you mean Michelle, but phew, its done. Let's hope its good news, please keep us posted. Prayers your way.

Ouch, that looks very sore. Are you icing it?

I had mine today and while I felt lots of pressure and some pin pricks from the numbing med and one iffy feeling at one time where the needle went in one of the times, I had nothing compared to your situation.

I am using ice packs today and tonight and I hope that there is no bruising when I get up in the morning.

Onederchic
10-20-2010, 03:17 PM
Yes, I have been using ice..30 minutes on and 15 off. Did you have a stereotactic biopsy? I am glad you didn't have the same experience as me

lauralyn
10-20-2010, 03:20 PM

I really hope you feel better soon.

Onederchic

Yes I had a stereotactic and I pray they never have to do it again because I am not sure I could.

Thanks, I will :) He said the results would be in in 2-3 days.

Today I am quite sore but I think it is because he had a bit of difficulty while doing the procedure and as I watched it all on the screen I knew I would be sore today. I am still icing it and so far there is no visible bruising...it just feels extremely sore.

How are you feeling today?

I keep checking this post in case one of you has heard & has an update.

I wish you both well. I have lumpy breasts & have gone through some of the steps you both have, but it ended after the aspiration. I remember walking around with my heart in my mouth.

If this is any comfort, there are probably more members thinking about you & praying for you & wishing you well than you can even guess from the number of posts & views on the thread.
