Default OT - Surgical Glue

The doctor used Dermabond type stuffs on my incision. The only instructions really given was not to rub at the incision but to pat it (ie after a shower and what not). It is starting to peel like a sunburn, my question is do I manually remove it or let it fall away on it's own? I see the doctor for a follow up but not until Thursday so was just looking for some advice.

Also, it is itching very badly and I want to take a fork to it What will control the itching?

I'd let it flake off on its own & itching means it is healing...

You could give the doctor's office a call in the morning - and the nurse could let you know.

Hope it's healing well.

I definitely wouldn't take it off, let it fall off on it's own. It's healing, so ripping the rest of the glue off will cause you to irritate it and possibly lengthen the healing process.

How are you feeling otherwise?

Thanks!

The incision is sore but overall, I feel okay just stressed about the breast biopsy on Tuesday.

Hi onederchic! I have had several surgeries to heal from (Crohns disease) I would resist the urge to peel at that. It could get into the quick. And you don't want to risk your wound getting any infection.
A very smart nurse once gave me the advice to lay on your bed and relax after showering with a blow dryer on the cool setting pointed at the incision. This dries it and cools down the itchy feeling. I did this with my resection and hysterectomy incisions.
I hope you feel better soon and heal fast!

Yeah, I agree with everyone else. when I had surgery this year they put glue on my incisions, the dr just said to clean it lightly and it will come off on its own. Hope you heal quickly!!

Yes, blowdryers can definitely help with itching. I used one down my cast when my wrist was broken. Give it a shot!

Let the stuff fall off naturally, though, for sure.
