Atkins - Daily Intake Carb Count Thread

View Full Version : Daily Intake Carb Count Thread

10-16-2010, 09:16 PM
Hey everyone - Back when I used to count calories we had a daily intake thread. It was really nice to see what everyone was eating for Bfast, lunch and dinner.

I usually post this in the something for dinner thread but figured I would start a new thread for daily intake if anyone wants to join me! I hope you will post! I'd love ideas for bfast and lunch too!

10-16-2010, 09:21 PM

I ended up changing my plan a bit!

Bfast - 1 egg (1), sausage (1), coffee w/ half pack sweet and low (1)

lunch - chicken (1) and sauteed chanterelle mushrooms with butter (4)

snack - almonds (2) cheese (2) and avocado (2)

dinner - chicken (1), spinach (3)

treat 1 glass wine (3)

total = 21

10-17-2010, 12:59 AM
Wow, you're doing great with the carb count, I will join you tomorrow.

Are you watching portions as well?

10-17-2010, 02:05 AM
i'm gonna join too, i think i need to see how much i'm actually eating. i'm trying to keep at like 15, but i know i probably exceed that.

10-17-2010, 04:08 AM
Yeah I count out the almonds (28! for 2 carbs) and measure the avo and cheese etc.

The veggies am a little more liberal with and sort of eyeball.

10-17-2010, 10:42 AM
Breakfast: 2 oz romaine hearts (1) 2 oz cheddar (2) 10 slice ham (1) with mayo, made little sandwhiches. Coffee with 1 scoop coffee mate and 1 sugar twin (2.5)

Lunch: The same! (I was feeling lazy after running around and doctors appointments yesterday) (3 net total as I used turkey instead of ham)

Dinner: Steak (0) and broccollie and cabbage, weighed (6)

Snack: I had beef jerkey (2) and espresso with a sugar twin (2?)

Only 8 net carbs from veggies, I'll have to do better!

19.5 total

10-17-2010, 03:18 PM
Steph - I am trying to up my veggie count too!

bfast - sausage (1), coffee with 1/2 packet sweet and low (.5)

lunch - spinach (4), chicken, taco seasoning (1), 1 tbs greek yogurt (1), 1 tbs guac (1), grated cheese (1), a little bit of alfredo sauce (1) - i make a "pan melt" putting the spinach on the bottom and then just put the lid on. the greek yogurt (i use for sour cream) and guac go on cold. total (9)

snack - 28 almonds (2)

dinner - chicken and 2 cup of mixed veggies (i got a frozen mix at costco - its broc, cauliflower and the occasional carrot. 4 net carbs per cup. I will steam and add butter and garlic salt (8)

Total - 20.5

10-17-2010, 08:51 PM
It looks like your doing a modified induction with nuts but low carb count. I was thinking about trying to do that. OWL seems to be maintenance for me so I'm doing a modified version of induction to drop the remainder of the weight and then I start maintenance :)

10-18-2010, 12:57 PM
Yeah - the first time I did atkins I didnt realize nuts were a no no and ate them and lost 20 lbs in a month! I am hoping that I can still eat them (not every day) so long as I watch my carb counts. I think they are verboten because they are calorie dense (same w lots and lots of cheese) so I just try to be aware of that and lighten up in other places. They really fill me up! If I stall out I will be eliminating them and cheese....

bfast 3 eggs (3), coffee with half pack s and l (.5)

lunch cobb salad with ranch dressing (out to lunch w a gf) total (10)

dinner - 1 cup veggies (4) with butter and roast chicken (1)

total - 18.5

exercise = 30 minute walk

goal - drink LOTS of water. No alcohol this week (still sat.... I have a party but will keep it to carb free vodka with soda water!)

10-18-2010, 10:15 PM
I would like to go back to my almonds as a snack. I used to eat about 1.5 g of carbs worth, but switched to bison pepperoni for Atkins. I think they have good fats and they really help with my hunger without making me go nuts (no pun inteaded)

Today I'm horribly under on my carbs and under on my calories. I don't know what to eat, and may just have some grape tomatos with a bit of mayo and lettuce before bed if need be.

Breakfast: 3 eggs (1.5) Coffee with 1 scoop coffee mate and 1 sugar twin (2.5)
Lunch: Turkey and ham breast slices (.4) 1.5 oz grape tomato (2.5) 1.5 oz romaine (1) and some mayo (0)
Dinner: Chicken Breast (1) with 1.5 oz cheese (1.5) and two tbsp salsa (1)

That's only 11.4 :( Too many low carb foods, need more veggies.

I'll look for something to snack on later!

10-19-2010, 12:54 AM
How are you feeling on that low? I also notice you don't have a lot of fat in there....

I stayed exactly on plan today and drank lots of water. I dont feel snacky and I can tell I have transitioned to burning fat. I feel good.

I personally like the nuts so I eat them ;)

10-19-2010, 09:43 AM

Breakfast: spanish scrambled eggs and sausage patties

Snack: mozzarella & herb bites and a pickle

Lunch: 2 burgers w/provolone and greek salad

Snack: bbq pork rinds

Dinner: KFC chicken (skin removed) & string beans w/butter & salt

Lots of water and 2 Pepsi Ones (w/splenda)

10-19-2010, 11:47 AM
readyfreddy, I feel fine. That's the sucky part. I'm not hungry because of atkins so I have to find little ways to raise my calories and fat. I didn't put butter in there, but I was using that for extra fat, plus the mayo. Sometimes I'll make bacon to add in some more fat and calories (and the carbs aren't too bad)

I guess it's all about finding balance still. I have days like this, and then the day before (I didn't post everything because it was a mess) I was at over 1400 calories and right at 20 g of carbs with everything I ate. I just need to plan better I guess. Because the planning get's hard, I usually make breakfast and lunch together, count everything, and then what I'm missing I incorporate it into dinner.

I think I'll go veggie shopping today when I get my new jeans :)

10-19-2010, 12:51 PM
fatklr - mmm mozzerella bites.

steph - i think its ok to listen to your body and eat more some days and less others!

bfast coffee w half pack s and l (.5) 1 oz cheese (1) (i was in a hurry)

lunch - half an avo (3), turkey (3 - i accidentally bought some with some sugar), yogurt chive spread (1),

dinner - chicken and veggies or an omelet with veggies as a side. aiming for about 10 carbs.

total estimate 18.5

10-20-2010, 09:54 AM
Hi! Can i jump in?

"breakfast" - 2 pork chops with a bit of garlic and some braggs liquid aminos. I'm a little confused on the carb content of braggs, but since it was a little, we will call the whole thing (3)

snack: green tea with a packet of sweetleaf stevia (no fillers, yay!) (0) and 1 serving of almonds (3)

lunch: turkey and cheese pita (low carb flax pitas) (7) and water

dinner: well, i havent had dinner yet, lol. but egg salad (2 eggs) on a flax tortilla (5)

I work overnights, so my food schedule is messed up. Im boiling eggs right now and will have a bit of egg salad while i watch my DVR'd shows before bed, lol!

total: 18

10-20-2010, 12:24 PM
LoveRyGuy, I use Braggs as well, I can't have soy sauce because of the wheat in it so I use their soybeans and water :)

I did better for calories and carbs yesterday, got more carbs from veggies. I ate a lot so I won't break it all down but give you guys the condensed version. I also had two whiskey and diet cokes last night and still lost .2 lbs.

Breakfast: Coffee, 3 eggs, oz chicken, green pepper, salsa and sour cream on the side (8.2 net carbs, 2 from veggies, 341 calories)

Lunch: My "wraps" which are romaine hearts with mayo, turkey breast, mustard and then cheddar cheese (4 net, 2 from veggies, 450 calories)

Dinner: 3 eggs with bacon and green pepper cut up inside, also had 1.5 oz cherry tomatoes for extra carbs from veggies (5.5 net carbs, 3.5 from veggies, 575 calories)

1366 calories, 17.7 net carbs, 7.5 from veggies. Today was poorly planned as I did have more room for carbs and I should have had more veggies. My fiance and I rarely make dinner together anymore because of how I eat so we went the eggs and bacon route so we could enjoy something together.

I will be making up for it today with more veggies and less carbs coming from outside sources that are not veggies :)

I've been doing LC for about 3 weeks now, but I'm not doing it by the book. my goal is about 30 net carb per day and i allow myself whatever I want as long as I stay around 30. So far it's been successful, and no near as restrictive! I've lost about 6 lb, which to me seems healthy at 2 lb at week. Today my meal plan is:

8am- string cheese and atkins cranberry almond day break bar (2)
10am- jumbo beef jerky- (3)
12pm- 1 piece healthy life low carb bread(minus crust) (4)
2 pieces bologna (2)
1 piece cheese (1)
1 string cheese (0)
1 SF jello (0)
1 piece russel stover sugar free chocolate (.5)

dinner- im thinking I will get KFC Grilled chicken double down- only (4) carb so might get 2. and a side of green beans (2)

snack- wassa cracker (5) and cream cheese (1) or whipped peanut butter (2)

=around 29 carb

10-22-2010, 04:05 PM
Are you guys counting net carbs or total carbs?

10-22-2010, 10:56 PM
I count net per Atkin's instructions. You?

10-22-2010, 11:01 PM

coffee with splenda (.5), 2 eggs (2)

cheese (1)

avocado half (3), turkey links (2)

dinner - prime rib and veggies (4)

drinks - vodka and soda with lime (1)

10-22-2010, 11:21 PM
I count net per Atkin's instructions. You?

I am a calorie counter and watch my carb intake because I am a diabetic but recently I have decided to take a closer look at my carbs. Unfortunately the tracking program I use (BodyMedia for Go Wear Fit) doesn't list fiber in the details so I'm counting actual carbs (if there is a way to figure out the net carbs in that program I haven't been able to find it). I was averaging between 100-150 carbs and am now 50 or less on most days. I have no idea how many net carbs that is, unless I go back to tracking in fit day as well as my go wear fit account and that would be too much extra work.

10-23-2010, 10:03 AM
I count net carbs

10-23-2010, 10:18 AM
I went grocery shopping yesterday, got some new veggies so I can follow plan better :) My meals were not including those veggies though, we didn't have much to choose from.

Breakfast: 3 eggs (1.5) and coffee w/ 1 scoop coffee mate and one sugar twin (2.5)

Lunch: Tuna with mayo (0), green pepper (2), mozza (.5) and bison pepperoni for a snack (says 0 but I log as .5)

Dinner: Coffee from starbucks with h/h (2.7) two organic turkey burgers with cheddar melted on top and mayo and mustard to dip (1)

11.7 for the day.

Got some cucumber and green pepper and romaine, will be adding this in to tomorrows meal plan.

10-23-2010, 01:07 PM
I need to work on veggies too!

Mama - Its pretty easy to look up fiber counts on the internet. I can give you a link if you need one? In general whole grains and veggies and fruit will have some fiber you can subtract. Atkins allows you to subtract 3-4 grams of fiber per item.

do u guys count an egg as 1g or .5g? i'm gonna look it up in the book later.

10-26-2010, 02:16 PM
I count them as 1 because thats what it says on my carton but I think steph counts them as .5 because that is what is technically in them.

I figure labels round up and round down by .5 so it all comes out in the end (somethings that I eat will be 20.4 and counted as 20 and some will be 19.6 and counted as 20 and in the end it will even out to about 20 etc)

10-26-2010, 02:29 PM
I count my eggs as 1 carb each.

10-26-2010, 03:17 PM

Ugh, yesterday was awful. Airports and flights with not enough time at the layover to eat, and the food on the plane wasn't buyable without a credit card (which I don't have) so I got some juice and it had 60 CARBS AND 58 GRAMS OF SUGAR for the whole can (or vice versa). I drank it because I needed the time I landed in PA I had a migraine and I was nauseous (not from the juice, I was already getting a headache before I drank it.)

So, yesterday:
breakfast: 2 hashbrown nuggets (2?)
lunch: can of juice (60)...
dinner: a few bites of grilled chicken salad (2) (I didn't want to eat but I knew i had to so the nausea would go away.)

1.5 100 3T cream (total for day's beverages)
0.0 224 4 oz round steak
0.0 50 1/2 T butter

carbs: 19.1
calories: 1441

BTW, after logging this stuff by hand, I finally broke down and created a FitDay account. I will probably be using it from now on. Is there an easy way to copy/paste the table from FitDay?

01-03-2011, 07:35 PM
yoyomama--My eggs list the carbs at one per egg, and a lot of calorie counting websites list them at around 0.7. Eggs do have carbs, so make sure to account for them. That's one thing you need to watch out for. If the carb count is under 1, companies are allowed to legally list the carb count as 0, and they usually do.

brunch: "pizza" and pumpkin custard (9)
snack: jalapeno nachos (2)
dinner: 2 scrambled eggs with jalapenos, sour cream, cheese and hot sauce (2) sloppy joe filling (4)
snack: crystal light (2) peanuts (3)
total: 20

01-03-2011, 08:19 PM
Thanks for the heads-up on the eggs! I just looked at my FitDay entry (I copied entries I made by by hand before switching to FitDay yesterday) and it is listing 1.2 carbs for the eggs (total). Luckily, I ended up using FitDay for my total carbs. But there doesn't seem to be an easy way to copy and paste from FitDay so it would be a pain to post my foods from now on. :(

Have managed to stick to plan but weight loss stalled now that I have gotten back to ticker weight. I think I am getting too much dairy. When I was totalling my carbs last night, realized the only meal with no dairy was my bedtime "snack" of a glass of non sweet soymilk. (4 g carbs, ) so today, started off with no dairy at breakfast, since lunch will consist of yesterdays left over crustless quiche, with plenty of dairy. Will ensure no dairy for supper.
The extra water was helping too, and I didn't get that the last two days. so, onward. watch the dairy, get the water.

01-07-2011, 01:20 PM
I just realized the other day that cream cheese has become my BFF and I should probably scale that back a bit... No idea if it was or would have affected weight loss but probably best not to overdo any one thing.

Today's plan:
B: 2 eggs, 2 sausage patties, coffee w cream
L: buffalo chicken dip with celery and pork rinds for scooping, zucchini in EVOO with a bit of parm on top
D: chicken and garlic sausages with bell pepper and onions fried up a bit
S: 3 homemade meatballs, 1 egg's worth of egg salad, a babybel cheese if needed

I haven't entered dinner into fitday yet so I don't have all the carb counts but I know it's plenty under 20.

Yesterday was a very hungry day... I am not sure why that happened. All I can see is that I had a lot of carbs early on, and I am wondering if that set me up to want carbs for the rest of the day?

B: leftover stuffed bell pepper with ground beef, onion, tomato, cheese; topped with an egg; coffee w 1T cream (7.4 total)
L: taco salad - 2c romaine, 3oz ground beef, tbsp cheese, tbsp sour cream, slice of tomato, 1/4 avocado (8.4 total)

"The carbs make me want more carbs" is why Atkins is such a good way of eating for many of us. The Atkins books (2002 and earlier) do a great job of explaining why we react differently to carbs. People who aren't carb sensitive eat carbs, feel satisfied and go on with their days; we eat carbs, and in an hour or two, we're hungry again and want more carbs. It's how I gained 80 pounds!

01-11-2011, 01:40 PM
Yeah, that is what made me think of it. But if that's the case with what happened yesterday, I am so sensitive as to be set off by 8g total carbs? (fewer net, I forget what the net was for that meal) I am going back to a lower-carb breakfast as I usually have and will see if I have the same troubles again.

01-11-2011, 04:03 PM
I'm reasonably sure that for the rest of my life white flour and sugar will set me off - regardless of my weight or way of eating. I also believe my body reads artificial sweeteners in relatively large amounts (as in Atkins desserts) and fillers (as in low carb bars and candies) as "sugar" and will respond with an insulin spike and create "hungry for more."

It's not a happy thought, but it's one I strongly suspect is true. Atkins induction works for many of us with out-of-whack metabolisms because the small amounts of carbs in the allowed vegetables don't trigger the fast insulin spikes. But that's just what I think.

This is a great Idea!! Dunno if I would be consistant enought but here goes....maybe it would help me wiht counting carbs which I dont do :(
Breakfast......3 boiled eggs 2 tbsp butter...
I know 3 boiled eggs is what 3 carbs butter 0 correct me if i am wrong lol cause I am not sure.

01-19-2011, 03:12 PM
Hi all! I don't know if I'll be consistant either, but it is helpful. I did this diet several years ago. I probably lost close to 100 pounds (and didn't get to my goal.) I then proceeded to gain and lose the same fifty pounds over and over again since then.
I'm giving this another shot (and so far, so good.).

Berrie, I think one carb per egg is very safe. They have slightly less than that, I believe.

Breakfast: 2 hard boiled eggs, coffee with cream and splenda (5.5)
Lunch: Baby spinach and chicken salad with blue cheese dressing (3)

I am curious about everyone's carb counts....are they net carbs? I know the veggies are much higher than what I see everyone write down. For example a couple ounces of avocado is 7.2 carbs and I see people writing down 2. Also the Atkins bars are 15-19 and I see much smaller numbers.

I am just starting Atkins after 17 weeks (and 60 pounds down) on Ideal Protein. So I have been in extreme induction for 17 weeks. Loving having more food choices.

My total carbs have ranged between 28-44, but net carbs have been below 25 every day.

Hi darbs,
Congrats on your success!

Yeah, I've just been counting net carbs.

Linsy, I noticed you don't appear to eat more than 800-1000 calories a day. Have you been successful? I have been on a very restrictive low carb diet (Ideal Protein) for the last 4 1/2 months. So I work very hard to get to 1200 calories a day, but my daily menu is much more than what you have. I burned 342 at the gym today. Should I eat under 1200 calories?

eggs, cheese, canadian bacon------------------------------breakfast
almonds------------------------------------------------------morning snack
lettuce, 2 oz avocado, 3 oz chix, yogurt blue cheese-----lunch
olives and 1/2 oz cheese-----------------------------------afternoon snack
flank steak and brussel sprouts (pat butter)--------------dinner
1/2 ounce almonds and 1/3 Atkins shake in green tea---bedtime snack

I use a website to calculate total everything:

Dietary Fiber

Net carbs: 16.2

Fat (54%) Carbs (9%)
Protein (38%) Alcohol (0%)

Dr. Atkins doesn't recommend counting calories, so don't worry about them. As long as you stay in your carb limit you should be fine. You may have to start tracking calories later in the plan though. I usually eat between 1200-1400 calories. This WOE keeps me full so I end up not eating much. Your menu looks fine so just keep doing what you're doing.

I just plugged my meal plan into FitDay, and I'm eating roughly 1300 calories today.

My whole family is getting sick and I'm the last one to get it...I can feel it in my chest. It's the kind of flu where you can hardly even move so I'm prepared to be drinking lots of broth and water tomorrow and not much food. I'm going to try to finish off the batch of nuggets I made so they don't go to waste.

darbs, can you try to get more fat in there? We're supposed to aim for 65% of our calories coming from fat, 25-30% from protein, 5-10% from carbs. As your carb intake increases your ratios change a bit but your carbs are still in the Induction zone so you should try to keep your fat up.

Yesterday I had:
B: 2 eggs, tsp butter
L: hamburger patty on a portobello cap, served over 'hamburger salad' with pickle, a sprinkle of cheese, onion, avocado, lettuce. some mayo and mustard on top.
D: chicken, slice of bacon, 1/2 oz cheese, on top of 1c spinach; brussels sprouts, tbsp butter
S: 1 ounce cheese, 2T cream (whipped), 2 squares 85% dark chocolate

=36.2 total carbs; 24g net carbs; 1600 cals. 67%/25%/8%

thanks for the tip on how much fat...I was nervous it was too high. It is so hard after being on Ideal Protein and being so strict for the last 4 1/2 months. You are all so helpful here....I miss my IP girls, but I am feeling welcomed here. So when can I add the dark chocolate...yummy...sometimes just crave something chocolate and giving up the bars has made me miss the chocolate. So whip cream is okay? Thanks for your help.

It's okay, everyone has slip-ups--tonight after I already ate my chili I had some extra bites of everyone else's chili which had beans in it . I probably went over my carbs. Sometimes that stuff happens so I try not to stress out about it. I don't think eating that one Atkins bar will hurt as long as you don't make it an regular thing.

After seeing this thread and how little everyone is eating, but the carbs still add up I'm a bit discouraged. I'm still learning how to count carbs but I feel I watt way more then that and go hungry a lot. sigh hopefully I can figure it out soon!

Don't be discouraged you'll get it. I think I eat a lot actually and I don't ever feel deprived. Well maybe a little when I want some fries! LOL, but not usually. I think the book recommends 20g on induction. Remember meat and salad are your friend at meals, and for snacks, cheese, pepperoni, cucumbers, dips, celery, porkrinds, and deviled eggs are satisfying. These foods are low to zero carbs! Good luck!
