Low Carb Archive - Low Carb Freestyle Weekly, 10/28View Full Version : Low Carb Freestyle Weekly, 10/28 Jennifer 3FC 10-28-2002, 09:00 AM Gooooooood morning ladies! Do you mind if I start another thread for the week? I am ready to LOSE WEIGHT this week! How about everybody else!? mauvaisroux 10-28-2002, 10:18 AM Hi Jennifer! I am up 2 lbs this week so I am definitely motivated to lose it! Psych 10-28-2002, 11:22 AM Hi Ladies, I am also willing to lose 2 pounds this week, tell me how do you do it? how do you stay motivated? Psych nikkic 10-28-2002, 12:46 PM Good Morning Everyone, What a great day I'm having. I got up and stepped on the scale and I've lost 2 more lbs. I'm now down 24 big ones!:) This time change has me all mixed up too, Aleka. By 830am, I'd put in a full day it seemed. I went to the Dr. today. We went over my blood work from last month. She said it was all great and that my cholesterol and triglycerides were really low. I asked what they were, but I've already forgotten. Guess, my memory is still not that great. I talked with her about getting a breast reduction and she set up an appointment with a plastic surgeon. She said they find a way to make the insurance pay for it, which is a big relief to me. I have wanted one for so long, but I didn't think I could afford it, so I never even looked into it. I want perky little puppies, not lap dogs. Hello, Psych. I'm doing a low carb diet, like Atkins, but I modified it to fit my own life. I hate to count carbs, so I don't. I think it's tedious and makes me feel kind of anxious. So I eat according to his diet plan and don't worry how many sticks of celery I eat or cups of lettuce. I eat a lot of meat and cheese, and try to have a salad with lunch and supper with a vegetable of some sort. I eat good fat, but I don't eat a lot of it. My diet is satisfying and I never feel hunger. If I am, I eat. I exercise everyday. I started at 2 1/2 min. and I'm up to 40 min. a day. Everyday, I try to push myself to do a little more and try a little harder. My motivation comes from the way I feel and the way things are changing for me. I feel great, my energy is way up, my physical problems are getting better and I'm losing weight. I started out a size 26 and I'm now a size 24 and they are loose. Hope everyone is having a good day too. Anne, how are you doing, I've been worried about you all weekend. Talk to you later, Nikki SuGeorgia 10-28-2002, 01:38 PM Hi Ladies! Jennifer, I am definitely motivated! I am getting closer and closer to where I was before the big pig out (the good news is it took me almost a year to gain 20+ lbs)! I lost another 2.2 in weigh-in on Saturday, so I feel sooo light :) Mauvisroux, I know those nasty two lbs will just drop off, along with some of their buddies in no time. Psych, welcome! I'm staying motivated by posting here with these great people and by going to WW meetings along with my low carbing. (they have low carb options, so I'm not rocking the boat there) My style is part Atkins and part a variety of the other low-carb writers. My latest of interest is one I learned about here, Schwarzbein, but I'm mostly reading, not doing hers. Nikki, you are continuing to do so very well! Congrats on the loss! Let us know how the surgery interview goes. I'd love to have that done too. I'm pretty sure I'd have to pay, but it would be so worth it to be perky finally!!! I have been reading about protien requirements. Anyone have a good source that they use to be sure they get enough in? Su ANNE D 10-28-2002, 06:28 PM Hi All: Nikkic congratulations! 24 pounds is alot of weight.:bravo: I am still experiencing problems. The stupid thing keeps going to quit and then starts up again. I am disgusted.:stress: This mid life transformation is not going to be fun. As a matter of fact it really stinks. My weight stayed the same this week but I don't mind. My parents will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary at the end of Novemeber. It will be a major challenge not to eat all the goodies that our family members will be preparing. I have to start to psyche myself up now. How did your weigh in go at WW Aleka? Take care, Anne Jennifer 3FC 10-28-2002, 11:51 PM Hi Anne! I am sorry you are still having trouble. I went through menopause for about 3 months when I was being medicated to shrink my fibroid tumor. I got cranky, sad, sweaty and dried out, and it didn't even shrink the tumor. And joy, I get to experience it again someday! When my mom was going through menopause she also had a tough time with periods. Her doctor put her on hormones to push her on through, and she felt like a million bucks. However, with all the hormone stuff in the news lately, it might not be as good of an idea. Her doctor took her off of her hormones last week and gave her a progesterone oil to rub on her butt twice a day! I dunno if it will work or not. Will update you! Su, for extra protein, try protein shakes. I buy chocolate whey powder at the health food store and add some cottage cheese, cocoa and instant decaf coffee, whirl it up in the blender with some ice cubes and YUM, really good and about 30grams of protein with no sugar. You don't have to add cottage cheese, but you can't tell it is in there, and it helps thicken the shake. Be sure and read the nutritional info to see you are getting low carb powder. Welcome, Psych! To stay motivated, I keep posting here. Getting to know others like me and watching their progress and struggles helps keep me moving. Nice to have you along! Ok, that is all for tonite. I gotta pay some bills! Have a nice night everybody! nikkic 10-29-2002, 12:32 AM Hi again, I'm going to bed soon, man this has been the longest day. Anne, I take soy supplements. It is for womens health according to the bottle. I know I'm jumping the gun, but I figure soy can't hurt. Anyway, have you thought of trying it? Su, I've never thought I wasn't getting enough protein. I have all protein meals sometimes and then I feel guilty and eat some celery. How much protein are we suppose to eat? I've really never even worried about it. It seems like I'm always eating some kind all day long. I'm glad I like meat. Jennifer, did you get the gazelle? I was doing it this morning and DH said that I must like it because I feel like I'm running. I never thought of that, but I do. It's been years since I could run. My boobs were always so big, I just couldn't run without hurting myself. Night everyone, sweet dreams, Nikki SuGeorgia 10-29-2002, 10:09 AM Hello everyone! I got my psyche psyched last night! I love shoes and I found some gorgeous leather designer sandals on sale last night for 80% off! Normally, I would have said "Hold on, those may not go with anything next summer." I decided they would go with my 'hot' or at least much 'hotter' body! So, I got red ones and black ones.... total was $15 dollars instead of the actual original price of $110. And I LOVE them!! Wheee! I'm doing OK with the meals this week. I had a period of real fatigue for a couple of days. I think maybe I'm heading for a bad cycle this month. I am taking more B vitamins, and I'm hoping that will help. If not, I'll add something else in. Jennifer, the protien shake sounds really good. I think I have some of the powder, and I like cottage cheese anyway. I have two long days a week where I don't get home until 10 or so, and these could save me! Anne, congrats to your parents. Mine are just beyond 50. I think with the party and with menopause, you need to congratulate yourself for staying even for now. It is so easy to gain weight in the first charge of the hormones from your system! Nikki, I like soy too. I think it really helped when I was going through some hot flashes. I'll have to see about some sites that may list daily needs. I'm like you... sometimes a few bits of cucumber are all I get with some protien meal. But I was trying to figure my needs based on a chart, and I got a bit worried. Since protien fills me up very quickly, I might not be getting enough. I'm thinking I might need to split my meals into smaller ones so that I can get enough. Breakfast is the one meal I can eat everything, so I've upped that meal. It seemed to help last week. I'll talk to you ladies in a bit. Su aleka 10-29-2002, 11:47 AM I got weighed this morning...I'm down another lb. I was really surprised because with this cold I do not have the energy to exercise. Jennifer, thank you for starting a new thread. The other one was getting rather long. I also had fibroid tumors, quite a lot of them actually, about 9 yrs. ago, but I had to have a hysterectomy. I'm currently taking the lowest dose Premarin available. The study is still on going in my "group", those just taking Premarin. Welcome Psych, I stay motivated by the people on this thread, this is a great support group. I also attend WW meetings to keep me on the straight and narrow. The best motivation is starting to see results from your efforts. Looking forward to hearing from you. Su, Congratulations on your weight loss!! :dancer:  Way to go on your sandals :high: What a bargain!! I love a good bargain.;) I got my week 6, Right Mix, from WW today. I took the quiz and fell right in the middle, with the balanced eating. I still am going to go very easy on the carbs. Nikki, Great job on your weight loss. Wow!!! 24 lb. gone. That's awesome:bravo: That's also great you are doing so well on the Gazelle. You go girl! You must be happy that your bloodwork was good. ANNE, congratulations to your parents on the 50th wedding anniv.:balloons: My MIL & FIL are past 50 yrs. It's good that you stayed the same with all the celebrations. I hope that you all have a great day. Aleka ANNE D 10-29-2002, 01:40 PM Hi Everyone: Wow, we are seeing some great weight losses here! You go girls!:cp: Nikkic, I should try the soy I am not sure it is allowed on my program though. I have been under huge stress these last days I have an 18 year old son that is really putting us through the paces not to mention:devil: my boss! I am learning more about this perimenopause process as I read. Do you know it can be another 5-7 years or more of this meno fast forward thing?:fr: Anyways....this is all news to me. I thought the cycles were suppose to get shorter and further apart and it ain't necessarily so!!! Diet is great. Hopefully soon I will see another loss. You guys are all doing great!! Jennifer, I would love to hear about the oil and if it helps your mom. I don't have any other symptoms except meno fast forward no hot flashes or any thing like that yet. Anne. nikkic 10-29-2002, 03:05 PM Hi everyone, Anne, I'm sure Suzanne S. says that soy is funky, unless your a strict vegetarian. I think it is a protein/carbo mix. But, I don't eat soy, I take a soy extract. I was having aweful night sweats and this has helped me a lot. I have not noticed any change in my weight lose since I started to take it. You might consider it, I really don't think it will have any affect on your woe. Are you taking extra iron? I know what a difficult time having teens can be. I'm so glad my kids are older. My youngest daughter moved out when she was 17. She had already graduated early, had a job and saved up to move out. We had an argument over the washing machine and out the door she went. It was really hard, but she grew up pretty fast after that and is ok. You must be really stressed with your hormones all mixed up and everything else that is going on. Su, loved the shoe story. I have such a hard time finding shoes to fit me. I have lovely size 11 WIDE feet. :dancer: I hate to go looking for them. I know those sales guys must think I'm an amazon. I sometimes buy mens shoes, just to get something to fit. And I love the bargain you got too. When I find a good one, I'll buy 10 things. DH is always amazed at how much I'll buy of something on sale, but I figure I'll use it eventually. Are you sure the fatigue wasn't due to some sugar that might have crept in without your realizing it? I can hardly believe how many things sugar is in. I will always be grateful to Suzanne Somers for forcing me to read labels and see that they put sugar into everything. I've seen now where there is a company putting sugar in milk to get kids to drink more of it. They say it's healthy, oh come on. They do that to sell more of their product. Vitamin B is also a great idea. I take so many supplements, I couldn't begin to name them all. DH says I have invested enough in them to buy a new rear end for his truck. Aleka, I hope your cold is getting better. Are you having as rotten weather as we are? It is cold, wet and gray here. Just right for colds and flu. Seems like everyone I talk to is sick right now. Hope your drinking plenty of fluids and resting as much as you can. Good going on the weight loss. How are you Psych? Are you following an eating plan and if so, which one? I bought the firm video tapes and the accompanying steps. I rearranged my exercise room so I can do it in there. Threw out the old cardioglide that I've used for a clothing rack for the last 5 years. I have always hated that thing. I've decided the only kind of exercise I will do routinely is exercise that I really enjoy. I don't have time in my life to do something that I hate. I've talked to some other people on the web about the firm. It seems like there is a very dedicated following. They call themselves firm believers. They all seem to swear by it. It sure looks hard, but I'm ready for a new challenge. Got to go turn up the furnace, it is freezing in here. Later, Nikki SuGeorgia 10-30-2002, 03:51 PM Hi All! A brief dash in to tell you I figured out the fatigue issue!! I had an earlier blood pressure reading of +150/+90 which had really worried me, esp as it didn't go down with rest. Today I had a reading of 133/ 77 after running all over the place!!! Whoopee! I am soooo excited I didn't have to do meds to get it to start down. I know I can do better, but to change this much in about one month is tremendous. Su ANNE D 10-30-2002, 06:16 PM Hi Everyone! Great news about your blood pressure Su!! I bet you are happy. I will be going out on Thursday night with one of my 12 year old sons while he goes trick or treating. No goodies for me this year Sadly in the last few years Halloween is pretty dangerous at times in Toronto. A couple of years ago one of my sons got held up at knife point for his candy if you can beleive it. Mind you he was 16 at the time! Ever since then I haven't really been crazy about Halloween. Hope everyone is fine. Anne. aleka 10-30-2002, 07:22 PM Su, that's great news about your blood pressure. I'm sure you are very excited. ANNE, what a horrible and frightening experience for your DS. I can't get over him being held up to get his candy!!:censored: Stay safe tomorrow night. nikki, our weather really isn't all that bad. It's sunny and in the 40's. The weather people were telling us we were either going to get rain or snow, and whatever was coming, it was going to be BIG! They've changed their minds. Now they say it will stay mostly out to sea. It can change 40 times by Sat. It was so nice today I went for a little walk. I haven't had the energy to exercise, but I am starting to feel better (thank you for asking) and want to get back into the swing of things. Good for you starting a new exercise routine. Good luck with it. A HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO YOU ALL!!! Aleka mauvaisroux 10-30-2002, 10:10 PM Hi everyone:wave: I just popped in to see how you were all doing this week. I have been kind of busy. Our car wouldn't start again this evening but we think it is the alternator that we just had fixed a week ago. The warranty will cover it (I hope). DH and I are going out with friends tomorrow to see the movie "Ghost Ship". Since we are too old to Trick or Treat we are treating ourselves to a scary movie for Halloween instead:lol: Su-great news about your blood pressure! AnneD-what a horrible story! Hope you have a good safe Halloween tomorrow:) Psych- hi and welcome to the thread! Aleka hope you are feeling better :goodvibes: Hi Jennifer & Nugget Mauvaisroux SuGeorgia 10-31-2002, 07:41 AM Hello everyone! Thanks for all the kind words about my BP. I had actually gotten very concerned, so it was a relief to see it drop. But it does go along with a dramatic loss of energy for a bit. Anne, I am so sorry about that holdup experience! I can't fathom why someone wanted to do that. I guess people will try anything~ Mauvaisroux- I hope the car gets straightened out and that the movie is fun. It sounds like it should be! I plan to stay home and act like no one is here so I don't get the trick or treaters. No way will I feel up to handling sugar and not eating it. Jennifer, Aleka, Nugget, and Nikki--- have I missed anyone? Anyway, have a great low-carb day and I hope everyone has fun today! nikkic 10-31-2002, 09:05 AM Happy Halloween Everyone!:fr: :joker: :genie: :queen: :yikes:  I got my firm tapes yesterday, I'm going to go do them now, just thought I'd check in for the day. Su, glad to hear about your b/p. Mine use to be elevated too, before I started to lose weight and exercise. It really is so good to see it ok and not to have to take pills to get it down. Mine at one time was 210/130. I went on pills of course. But I'm off them now and the last time I went to the Dr. it was 120/60. Feels good doesn't it? Mauvaisroux, sorry to hear about the car problems, I hate when that happens. I wanted to see that movie, let us know how it is, ok? Aleka, hope your doing better everyday. Our weather is still gray, cold and nasty. So far, I'm not sick. The other day when I went to the Dr., everyone in the waiting room seemed to be coughing and sneezing. I wanted to put on a mask. :) Anne, that was aweful about your son being held up for his candy. You guys stay safe today/tonight. I had a bunch of skin tags burnt off my neck and chest last time I saw the Dr. She said it's part of the aging process combined with being over weight. Of joy. Makes me wonder what other wonderful things I have to look forward to. Anyway, I'm pretty sore now, covered with little red welts all over. She usually only does 6 at a time, but I have so many, she did over 25. At least it won't be long. Just feels like I touched the inside of the oven everywhere. I put this exercise off long enough. Talk to you all later, hello to everyone else too! Nikki nikkic 10-31-2002, 10:04 AM A quick review of The Firm tapes I said I wanted a challenge and boy did I get one. I tried to keep up, that didn't happen. I've read it takes months before you can get your form right, I'm sure of that. I felt like I was going to fall over from the workout and she said, " Ok, now that we've warmed up, let's begin." OMG! I finished watching the tape on the Gazelle, in fact, I didn't even get through the whole tape. There are 4 of them. I think these will last the rest of my life, if they don't kill me first. I'm not sure I'm glad I got them or not, but since I'm hard headed, I'll keep trying to do them til I can't try anymore. Bye for now, Nikki SuGeorgia 10-31-2002, 10:43 AM Nikki- Good for you doing these tapes!! I bet that bit by bit they will start feeling comfortable for you. I've got the tai boe tapes, and I just need to get my area settled so I can do it. I can't do much either, but it makes me feel so much better. The skin tag thing sounds uncomfortable, but they are getting gone, and that's the great thing. I have a few too....need to drag myself to a doc soon. I love the Halloween icons!! :) mauvaisroux 10-31-2002, 04:18 PM :fr: Happy Halloween everyone :yikes: Hope you all have a fun night and don't eat too much candy :joker: DivineMsJunebug 10-31-2002, 08:57 PM Let's get this party STARTED!!!:cb: Okay starting SUNDAY. I am going to drink at least 80 ounces of water. Have a very low carb day. Do my Yoga for Weight loss tape then go to my Aqua Aerobics and then Monday go BACK to Jazzercise. I haven't been feeling very well so I've been eating lots of carbs. Today I had TWO scones. Oh my...not good. Anyway, I am readly to get movin and groovin and low carbin again!!! WE CAN DO IT!!!! :grouphug: ANNE D 11-02-2002, 06:45 AM Happy Saturday Ladies!! Great news for me today, I lost 2 more pounds putting me in the 230's. I started this WOE in August at 270 something as of today I weigh 238. I should be doing my gazelle, I know I could enhance my results But hey, 32 pounds in 3 months ain't bad. My DH and I went to visit another prospective high school for my autistic son David. We found a dandy yesterday. Up until now it has been depressing. Talk to you all soon. Anne. aleka 11-02-2002, 07:48 AM Snow on the ground this morning..only a dusting. Went shopping in the southern part of the state. Bought a lot of goodies. ANNE, congratulations on the weight loss! 32 lb. in 3 months is awesome!!:bravo: :cp: :high: Keep it up! Welcome DivineMsJuneBug, do you like your Yoga for weight loss tape? What is the name of it? I would like to try yoga. I have a mat and some blocks, but have never opened the box:o nikki, hang in there with the Firm tapes. You will be able to do it in no time. Are you as uncomfortable now as you were after having the skin tags removed? I did have a few in some weird places, but they sort of died and fell off and thankfully never grew again! mauvaisroux, have you gotten your car fixed again? Having car trouble is a real pain :bomb: :headache: Hi Su & Jennifer. Have a good weekend everyone. Aleka nikkic 11-02-2002, 08:33 AM Hi everyone, I'm feeling a lot better today. I think I must have become part toad or something, I look like I have some kind of weird skin disease on my neck. Hope this redness clears up soon. I hate to admit it, but I sent back the firm tapes. I think somethings are just physically impossible and for me these are. What I found was that they didn't explain anything very well, they just expected you to know what they were talking about. Maybe if I'd done the tapes for years, I would have. Since they cost over $80, it was too much to invest in something I would end up not using. I did try the Pilate tape yesterday and found out that I can do that, not well, but I can. At least the instructor describes what the next movements are going to be, even though she seems to really be impressed with herself. Anne, what great news about finding a good school for your son. I'm sure it is a big relief. I wish that places that are well run were just common and not something you have to seek out. Oh wow, you are doing so good on your woe. I am just so impressed. I'm up to 27 min. on the gazelle daily now. Get back on it, it really does help me feel like I've done something good for myself and it doesn't impact my joints, just like they say. I think it is so important to protect your joints/body. Aleka:queen: you are such a shopper, I just love that. I bought 3 pairs of shoes yesterday on HSN. Naturalizers, they look comfortable and just like shoes my grandmother would have worn. Big and roomy. Hey, I finally started to use the Torso Track. I can now get down on the floor and bend my ankle and it doesn't hurt too much. I had no idea what a work out that little thing can give you. My stomach muscles hurt for 2 days after the first time I used it. It's been cold here too, they say that Oct was the coldest since 1975. DivineMJB:angel: I use to do yoga when I was a teenager. I wish I kept up with it all my life, what a wonderful thing to do for your body. Sounds like you have a lot of great things lined up for your exercise program. Su and Mauvaisroux, hi, hope your days are going good. Talk to you all later, Nikki:balloons: Jennifer 3FC 11-03-2002, 01:28 PM Good morning! I didn't realize it was so many days since I posted on the thread! Been lonnggggg week, worked each evening before Halloween trying to get Cody's outfit together (he was PeeWee Herman) and then I worked long hours getting things wrapped up at work so I could take time off. I can't believe how much work it takes to go on vacation! I am doing my own personal low carb camp for the next two weeks. I will be under my husband's nose for 14 days (he works at home) so I can't cheat! June, I am with ya!! Today is my cleansing day also. I have to get the candy and the tortillas out of my system! I think I told myself something last night when I snuck candy. Well, I already had a load of carbs earlier in the day with meals, then popcorn at the movies, and while making dinner I snagged one of Cody's chocolate bars and a chocolate football shaped thing. By the time I had dinner ready, I was shaking something terrible. I couldn't believe that happened! I think this tells me I need to back off now! Also I have not felt good again over the last couple of weeks. I was slowly feeling better all the time for the last couple of months. I was losing at a snails pace, but I was still losing and I felt so much better. Weird mysterious aches and pains went away, chest pressure was gone, complexion was improving, and last night I felt like I had hit rock bottom again. I have had 2 awful weeks. I don't know what happened, but last nights sugar shock was the slap in the face I need! 80 ounces of water, huh? Ok, I will try it too! My ankles are swollen worse than they have ever been. Today is D-Day. De-Tox Day! aleka 11-03-2002, 02:04 PM We now have a Super Walmart. Last night DH & I went to check it out. I found some bacon wrapped filet steaks that looked yummy. I also got some of their Blue Bunny fat free/sugar free ice cream. It was fantastic!!! Today we went grocery shopping and I found some Jicama. I plan on having that tonight with the steaks we bought last night. I'll let you know how the Jicama is. I think I'll steam it and mash it like potatoes. Sat. night is the first time in I don't know how many years that we've actually gone out. And...he takes me to Walmart. Who said romance is dead??? Jennifer, it was good hearing from you. Good luck with your sugar withdrawal. I am just the opposite. If I have been eating loads of candy around the holiday season, the day I stop eating it, I start to shake and it lasts a few days until I get it out of my system. You will be feeling better once you get all that out of your system. nikki, that's fantastic you are able to get down on the floor to use the torso trak. :high: It's great how far you have come since we all started posting. The torso trak does give you a great workout. My stomach was sore for a few days too. But, be careful because one time I felt something pull in my lower abdomen and had to stay off of it until it healed. Sorry you didn't like the firm tapes. If they don't explain things very well, then it's not worth it. Hi mauvaisroux, ANNE, DivineMsJuneBug, & Su  It's a beautiful afternoon...so I think I'll get my dog and go for a walk. Enjoy the rest of the weekend. Aleka Giggles 11-03-2002, 04:21 PM SuGeorgia, FYI on a question you had asked earlier.. If you go to the library and get a copy of the Protein Power book, it has all sorts of formulas. You can get their idea of how much is the right amount of protein for your specific body. They have formulas to determine the exact amount of grams of protein you should eat each day, in fact. The Zone books might also have that info. Giggles 11-03-2002, 05:01 PM Jennifer! (And anyone else who has that reaction to candy..) Welcome to the world of hypoglycemia. When you have been eating lots of carbs for while (weeks, months) and you eat some consentrated, straight-to-the-blood, sugar without any fat or protein with it to slow it down, it makes your pancreas put out its usual too-much-insulin and that is followed within one or two hours (sometimes as little as 30 min.) with a very low blood sugar level which causes shaking, sweating, confusion, and sometimes panic hunger. Interestingly, the same thing can happen with diet sodas (y'all probably call it 'diet pop'), gum (even sugar-free gum), and all football-shaped chocolate balls. Either way, the body gets a clue you are eating sugar (even any artificial sugar or natural sweetner like stevia can cause the same results) and your pancreas sends out its huge dose of insulin. That insulin pulls sugar into the cells and causes the sugar level in your blood to drop too low... hense the symptoms. That is why the real problem is 'hyperinsulinemia' (too much insulin in the bloodstream) rather than too many carbs. In fact, that is why this is not a problem everyone has. Some people have sensible and normal pancreases. So, our problem is the pancreas's reaction to carbs. It is not known why, as far as I know, the pancreas reacts so badly to sugar in some of us but not others... Eating protein or fats does not produce any significant amount of insulin, so that is why the low carb diet works to make us feel better. [So, it seems right to drink a cup of olive oil first then have that candy bar! Should work...?) The low carb diet allows our pancreas to have a vacation from making so much insulin, and our bodies to have a vacation from the ill effects of too much insulin in our blood system. But, it is also why we have to stay on low carbs for the rest of our lives - this is a thing that will happen every time we eat too much of the "good" stuff. Sorry for the lecture. My biology class seems to be haunting me right now.... I couldn't help myself... had to write that stuff.. I will work on getting this all under control soon! mauvaisroux 11-03-2002, 10:25 PM Evening everyone! I went to a food and wine show this weekend and totally :ink: out. I have to get back on track this week as I am only 13 lbs away from my goal and I would like to make it before New Year's. It is going to be tough since Christmas is coming and so will the onslaught of Christmas goodies! Anned and Nikki-congratulations on your most recent losses:cp: keep it up girls! :cb: Jennifer-yow! :fr:your sugar shock story is pretty wild! I've never had that bad a reaction before. I've just gotten headaches or a stomache ache. Giggles-thanks for the info! I never knew any of that could happen, especially the diet sodas:yikes: Aleka-wow, you are lucky! The Walmarts where I am only have non-perishable goods and they are mostly junk food. It would be great if we had a Super Walmart here too. Hi Su and, Nugget and DivineMs.Junebug! nikkic 11-03-2002, 11:35 PM Hi Everyone, Aleka, thanks for saying that about my coming so far since we started posting. I've changed a lot. I hope I keep on changing for the better, like we all have. When you said that, I thought back to August when DH and I went camping. I was still using a crutch and a boot. I thought I always would. I guess patients is what I need to remember. How did the jicama turn out? I've only eaten it raw and I wasn't impressed. But then I don't like potatoes raw, but love them cooked. Jennifer, you reminded me of when I ate a candy bar a while back, I was sick for a day and a half. It makes it easy to say no after that. Giggles, thanks for the info. I have the protein power book, I hate to try to work out formulas and keep track of how much of something I ate. I'm just lazy I guess. Mauvaisroux, I wouldn't even know what being 13 lbs. away from goal would be like. I think I'd pig out too. Anyway, you can make it through Christmas, just make some low carb goodies that you don't usually make. Have you ever tried the donut drops that they posted on the old ss'ing boards? I don't know if the recipe is on the new boards. You make it with protein powder and it's completely level one. I made them once and they are really good, a lot like real donuts. If you can't find the recipe and want to make them, let me know. I'm planning on making lots of new, interesting recipes that I haven't tried yet so I'll have lots of stuff to divert my attention from the candy and junk. At least, that's the plan. Guess we'll see how I do. I have to go, I have this 15 lb. cat sitting on my lap/chest and he's looking deeply in my eyes. I can't tell if it's love or the way he looks at a mouse. Either way, he makes typing hard. Later, Nikki PS-How about a new thread tomorrow? That way it will stay short. mauvaisroux 11-04-2002, 12:30 AM New thread for the week sounds good to me! I will start a new one and maybe Ruthxxx or Jennifer can close this one. Lowcarb Freestyle weekly Nov 3 is the title of the new one, se you all there:) vBulletin® v3.6.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
