Hope you don't mind a SUGAR BUSTERS MODERATOR popping in and asking as question that was asked to me but one I can't answer...

During induction on Atkins are you allowed canned tomato sauce. I searched the web but just can't seem to find an answer easily. I was told there's 3 carbs in a 1/4 cup and I think she said it was HUNTS, if this is any help in figuring it out.

If anyone can help answer this perplexing question:shrug: I'd appreciate it.

THANKS ALL and keep up the great work!:bravo:

Hi Debelli

Im not an expert, but fitday says tomato sauce has 18 carbs per cup. Ive stayed away from it and used salsa instead.

Hope this helps.

I'm no expert, either -- although I've managed to lose 85 lbs. on this diet. I can answer your question, though.

In my revised version of the Atkin's diet book, it says that 1/4 cup tomato sauce equals 4.4 'total carbs' and 3.5 'digestible carbs.' Does this help you any?

Thanks ROBIN & URBAN!:D

Umm:chin: well, still need to know if it's okay on induction to have a 1/4 cup. I just called her and she said that the carbs listed are indeed 3 carbs for a 1/4 cup serving with 15 calories per serving. The only sugar it has is 2 grams and is naturally occuring, nothing else is added at all. So even if it's 4.4 with 3.5 digestable, would this then be okay to use during induction?

THANKS!!!!

Debbie

When I first started this diet (about three years ago), I was not allowed to have any prepared foods like tomato sauce, spaghetti sauce, jarred salsa, etc. Since these products have sugar in them, this is the last thing you want to ingest at the beginning. I simply stayed away from all of it, until after my maintenance program began. I'm not sure if this has changed in three years or not, but I don't think so.

you are normally alowed to have 20 carbs during the induction time. the bvest ones are those with vegies like tomatoes and they are full of anti oxidants and really good for you the trick is to try to spread them through the day. the old school would have said not but the newr school is more leanient. i hope that helps if it was me i would say yes but if it triggered cravings then save that for later times
hope that helped

You might suggest taking pure tomato paste (read the labels!) and watering it down. Less carbs and you can be sure there is no sugar in it.

Hi Debbie!! As long as she is under 20g's a day, she can eat (mostly) what she wants. The sauce is ok...she might be confused because there are so many low carb recipes out and about that say things like 'omit if on induction' after ingredients such as tomatoes and onions. They just tend to add up, but aren't necessarily not allowed!
