G'day all,

It is a very hot day here today, 32 degrees, cool change this afternoon and by Sunday it should be a very nice, sunny 23 degrees.

Peggy your witches sound great, you are so creative. I really think you should photograph your master pieces and share it with us.:)

Ann sounds very relaxing, sitting in your rocking chair and doing some hand quilting.

Nice to 'see' you Karen.

Lily cannot remember when you said you would be back, hope to 'see' you soon and hear about your holiday.

Jeney I thought you would have been back by now. Did you have any luck finding a place in the country? The Victorian High country is just beautiful, I am sure you would have enjoyed it.

Saw an interview on TV with the star of the Greek wedding movie some of you have spoken of and said you enjoyed. It has opened this week in Australia so I will definetly make an effort to go and see it after hearing the praises here on the board.
This morning I went out with ds fiancee and we bought 'ready-made' curtains for their new place. Next week dh will put up the rods and we will hang the curtains.
This Sunday we are having a group of our friends around for lunch. It will be nice to catch up with everyone.

Have a great day/night all

Cheers
Maria

Hi Everybody Well after eating my way through last weekend I showed a gain of .4# at my WW weigh in on Tuesday. I must say I really made an effort not to over indulge too much.
Karen and Glenda both of you should look into making a quilted Christmas Tree skirt like Trudy and I did. I had quilted a little bit before that but I don't think Trudy had. I'm happy we made them, they turned out very nice and were very simple and fun to do. :) :)
Maria I see you are managing to keep yourself busy. I bet you find it really nice to be in your own home again with all your own things around you. :smug:
Peggy you always come up with the neatest craft idea's. On the weekend when I was at the lake my friend and I went to the little local grocery store and the gal in there had made a "vase" out of a gourd. She cut the top off the gourd and cleaned it out and then attached the top piece with a part of the stem still on it to the side of the gourd making it look like a handle. She had it filled with real flowers. :flow2:
I forget when Lily went away. ALAS I also forget when she said she would be back. :D Ann I like some little thing to occupy my hands when I sit and watch TV too. Well we might get SNOW tomorrow too, so I guess we just sort of by- passed Indian Summer and are going right into winter.
I think Jenye should be back any day now to. How did it go, looking for property? Well gals, time for me to tidy up a bit and get ready for bed. Night all. :sheep:

More snow on the ground today not very happy abut that:( I wonder if it is a preview of what is to come. I started reminding members at my meetings yesterday that with the snow arriving they need to be aware that if schools are closing around them to remember that I will not be driving either.:nono:

Maria I gave you the thumbs up sign when I read that you had found ready made curtains. I remembered you had hoped you would.

Slavika I have my frabric in the washing machine as we speak. Since blue is my favorite color that is my them. I'm going to iron and get my peices cut today so that I can begin sewing them on Sunday.

I've a shower to go to tomorrow for my Neice. My Brothers oldest girl. It is his and sil first grandchild. The whole family is very excited. :cloud9:

There are October Fest's going on all over the state this week end. But won't have time to visit any. Besides I want to work on my newest project:dancer:

Well have to get my day going have lots to do cleaning. cooking going to the bank and cutting strips.

Maria, how lucky you didn't have to sew curtains. You will love My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Karen your quilt will be so pretty. You will have to post a picture of you and the quilt. It will keep you warm on those snowy days. We are all set up for our show. It is supposed to rain tonight and tomorrow. Hope that people come. Saturday is the buying day and Sunday they bring the dh's who don't like to buy anything. See you all Monday.

G'day all,

By the time you read this Peggy your craft show will be all over, I hope it was very successful.

Karen you have probably cut all the strips and are well on the way with your quilting. I hope you had a nice time at the shower for your niece. I am not sure what you mean by 'shower' does it mean a get together and that everyone brings a gift?

Yes you are right I am very pleased we found ready-made curtains, slightly over budget but as I told dh, it will keep my sanity :D

I have been preparing all day for my 12 visitors tomorrow. It has been a long time since I had this many guests at my place for lunch, I hope I have thought of everything:dizzy:
It has been a lovely day and it promises to be another nice spring day tomorrow:flow1: :flow1:
DH had to go and see the Mercedes dealer in town and next door is the biggest fabric shop so I went there. So many beautiful fabrics, so tempting..........but I was sensible and didn't buy any.

I must be off and throw a vacuum through my house and then I can relax with everything done for tomorrow.

Cheers all

Yep thats right . We bring gifts for the new Baby and some times for the Mom to Be. Plus we lay a few goofy games and then we eat CAKE! Can you guess my favorite part?

Karen your definition of a "Shower" is the same as mine... I think we spend more time thinking of the food than picking out the gifts. I had never quilted before Slavika came up with the wonderful idea of a tree skirt. It was really fun to see all the little pieces of fabric come together.
Slavika I have been eating my way through the week, in fact I have hardly stopped since Tue. :ink: I don't know if it is because the weather has been so cool it makes me want to eat comfort foods.. :?:
Peggy you do the neatest crafts. Too bad we all can't come by to see them. I hope your craft sale went well.
Ann that must be quite an undertaking, doing the quilting by hand. Did it take you long?

I bought some artic fleece for baby blankets and lovely soft flannel for receiving blankets. I finished one blanket off with a simple blanket stitch, but the others I serged on Slavika's serger yesterday. She came up with the bright  I never used a serger before, it sure did a lovely job. She baked a very tasty scone with a cream cheese and raisin filling to have with our tea after all the work was done. What a gal..:dancer:

Have a great weekend everyone..:grouphug: ...

G'day all.

Just waiting for my guests to arrive and thought I would see what you have been up to.
Welcome back Lily, sounds like you had a good time, fat and happy!!! The fat will go in no time, just stay happy.

It is a beautiful day here today, hard to believe that some of you are eating to keep warm :D
When I get the time, I would love to learn how to do blanket embroidery, I have seen some gorgeous baby blankets. Best wait till becoming a grandmother is a bit more likely than it is now.

DD rang yesterday and she told me that she was studying the many ways of parenting in her psychology course. I was expecting the worse but she told me that it was just amazing but the best style of parenting was our way!!!!!!! She did qualify this by saying that we were not totally perfect but were on the right track;) It made my day.
It is really interesting that a friend of ours (he still is) always insisting on wanting to kiss dd when she was little. She hated it and used to run away and at times was in tears because of it. She now says that it really was a form of harrassment. We never looked it that way. I told her that I should have really told the friend not to do it because it upset her so much. Funny how we now see things so differently. I told her at least she has learnt not to allow this (as innocent as it was) to happen to her children.

On that little note, I will be off
Cheers

Welcome home Lily. We missed you. Looking forward to living your vacation through your writing. Never fear vacation pounds don't hang around long as long as you nip it in the bud now! Be sure to share the fun of innovations with us. We go next Sunday and are lucky enough to have our CEO Linda Huett visit ours.

Shower was nice. Cake was good (too good) My neice got a lot of nice useable things.

Trudy I've been looking at the fleece too. Was thinking about some nice warm jacket to wear instead of sweaters all the time.

Ann, Swamp Gravy? be sure and let us in on that.

Maria hope company was fun.

I remember being teased so much when I was about 7 by a family friend (adult) over a bowl of ice cream that I wouldn't eat it after it was finally given to me. I always have that thought in my mind and to this day if I see an adult or older child teasing a younger one I will step in and stop it.

Ann: Yes what is Swap Gravy? Sounds very interesting :)

Maria: Wow interesting about what your DD said about your friend. I sure it did make your day when she said you were right on the Parenting! You should be proud!

Karen: Yes I will get it off. Wasnt a pretty picture 8# :yikes:
Im sure some is fluff but Some is not, so Im back on track as of today.
Will see how much is fluff next week when I WI again. Got my leader watching me once again :(

Trip was great. Spent alot of time on the coast. Thru Washington and Oregan and then on up in to Canada. Spent alot of time in Victoria seeing all the things we missed the last time. Really love that city. Its beautiful. Even got to see some whales on the trip over. :) Just ate to many meals out and to many desserts :( Altho they were shared it still packed it on. Did lots of walking to but it didnt help. Even ate lots of Fish. But when its prepared some of the ways I had it thats not good either. So back to basics for me for awhile. I did go in today and pay my weekly fee so I can be accountable again.

Innovations was fun! They are no changes to the program itself. They are going to talk more about Exercise this year and get people more educated on it. Which is good. Another bit of scoop is they have joined in with the American Cancer society and are going to have a Great WI day. Like the Great smoke out day. Thought this was super! All WW centers etc will be open that day all day long. Did say that obesity had alot to do with cancer. :sssh:

I see we are getting a new thread tomorrow so Ann dont get lost! Should be nice to have own own little spot :)

Gonna start using the Journel on this site til I get back to my goal.
ALAS...........

Night all still trying to recover from Vacaction. Gonna hit the bed early.

Oh forgot to add that the Points Braclet will be sold in all areas now. Course some of you creative people already have them :)

G'day all,

We had a lovely lunch with our friends. I was exhausted though, not having prepared a lunch for 14 for quite some time. The good thing is that I eat very little when I have people over, I make up for it when they leave ;)

It was great catching up with everyone, it was as though we had never been away.
Tonight ds and fiancee have invited us for dinner. They are just so happy in their new home.
DH is off to Sydney till friday tomorrow. Still hanging in there job wise.
I am getting a bit more relaxed about it, what will be, will be.

Sounds like you had a relaxing, and fun holiday Lily I can relate to the meals out :( despite the best intentions, so often meals are served ladened with creamy sauces etc. Good luck 'de-fluffing' :D

See ya tomnorrow

Hi Everybody It sure was nice to read so many new posts this morning. :)
Lily welcome back, my friend. It sounds like you had a wonderful holiday. I too, think Victoria is a lovely place. My DH aunt used to live there so DH and I went out to see her a couple of times. It's a grand mixture of old and new.
Did you make it to the hotel for "tea"? ALAS, if you went there I can understand why you put on a bit of weight. I bet you were pleased with the exchange on your dollar while in Canada. :)
Maria glad your lunch went well with your friends. I was reading some news article on the net about companies like the one your DH works for and his is certainly not the only one that is suffering financial woes right now.
Karen I have a fleece jacket that I just love because it is so cozy, but if there is a wind, well the wind goes right through it. It's ok though if you wear it instead of sweater, and have something over it or on days that are not to cold and windy. I usually take it with me when I fly instead of a sweater. Peggy I guess that craft show is just a memory now. How did it go? Did you get rained on? Ann whatever would a play be about that is called "Swamp Gravy"? :D
The scone recipe that I made that Trudy mentioned is a keeper. It is a new recipe I found. It was not that low in points but I played with it a bit and managed to lower the calorie count a little. Actually the scone part is not that bad but the filling has a few points. You roll four- 6" circles of scone dough out, and put a mixture of LITE cream cheese, sugar, lemon peel and raisins on top of two of the circles and then top them with the remaining two circles.....score each top into 8 servings, making a total of 16 servings. Great with tea or coffee, at anytime. :) It works out to about 4 points per scone.
Tormorrow I am taking my dil out for lunch, so will not be going to WW or having Tea Time and in the evening I am going to see My Greek Wedding with a friend. Looking forward to Tuesday.
Talk to you all later. Once again, Lily nice to "see" you back.:flow1:

I am glad that I just ate. Those scones sound so good. And I love cake. I had a treat at the craft show. Chocolate covered cheesecake on a stick. It is chilled and way too good. The craft show was cooooold and rainy on Saturday and just cold on Sunday. There were people out in the miserable weather on Sat pushing babies in strollers. Personally think they were nuts. Sun was good and crowded. Sold most of my stuff-just have to go out now and sort out the rest of it. I have been to the thrift stores this morning looking for little kids shoes for our snow kids. We weren't sure what to price them so put $35 on them and they went. Lily it sounds like you had a wonderful trip. I would love to do that someday. You will get that fluff off. Are you back to work? Karen what's a shower without cake? Hope you had a piece for me. Slavika you do make the best things. No wonder all the gals like to come to your house for tea time. Right Trudy? Maria you kept yourself in check in the fabric store. Now that you are back home will it be hard to leave again? Ann let us know what Swamp Gravy was about. It sounds interesting. Got to go get some things done around here,

The bus trip was a fun time with friends. And I found out what the origin of the term Swamp Gravy is. It seems during depression days, most people in this little town didn't have a lot of food, so by the end of the week, they each took whatever they had and put it all together in one big pot, let it stew and the result was Swamp Gravy. We ate dinner in an old Southern Inn with southern style cooking, so got to try their version of Swamp Gravy. Just a potage of vegetables, really, with spices added. Got to try fried green tomatoes(yuck) turnip greens, fried chicken, and they had deep fried pork chops,(I left those alone) as well as rice, potatoes and other vegetables. And a sort of corn pancake, used in place of bread. I liked those, but only had 1.
And wonderful peach cobbler, blackberry cobbler, pecan pie, and lots of other :nono: 's

The musical got its name because it is a mixture of a lot of scenes and music, about the history of the area. The town that puts it on has a population of only 1200 people. A lot of townspeople are in the program. The whole county only has 3500 people. It is a farming community, and the big crop is peanuts, and next cotton. So it was a lot of fun. Good singing.

But I find that I need to get rid of some fluff too. It is amazing to me what happens even in two days if I don't stick to the program.

Maria: sounds like your luncheon was a success. I would be tired. Just thinking about lunch for 14, but how nice that good friends can get together.

Peggy: Glad your sale was a success, even in the cold and wet. Hope you found some little shoes.

Slavika: Hope I can try your recipe for the scones one of these days. Did you see the recipe from WW for 1 point chocolate cheesecakes. You make them in muffin pans. They are pretty good. Bet everyone will miss your teatime. Have a good time with your lunch with your friend.

Glenda: Quilting by hand did take me about 8 months, but I didn't work on it all the time, and it was a King Size quilt. But the end result was worth it.

Lily: It seems to me a good idea to team up with the Cancer society. Will the weigh ins be free? And I wonder if this is all across the U.S. I asked our leader about the points bracelet, and she had never heard of it. Hope it goes from West Coast to East Coast.

Karen: The shower sounded fun. I couldn't go the shower for our granddaughter, since they live in Missouri. Just got to mail a gift.

Trudy: What are you going to do without teatime? Hope all is well with you and your Mom.

Jenye: did you find the property you wanted?

Maria: I just heard on the news about the shootings in the college in Melbourne. I guess there is no place on this earth that is safe from 'crazy' mixed up people. Is that where your dd goes to school?

See you all tomorrow. Ann

Yes, we are back, we stayed away a little longer than we anticipated and arrived home last Saturday 19th October. Apart from having seen some beautiful parts of Victoria (Australia not Canada) we have not yet decided on where we will end up. We stayed with friends who have just bought a new dairy farm up on the Murray River. Because of the drought their water allocation is down to 41% of what they usually get in their irrigation rights but that is better than nothing as they have gone from milking 190 cows to 86 cows which is a breeze for them. We also stayed a few days at my DH's cousins place in Bendigo, got lost in the Strathbogie Ranges (near The High Country Maria) and then headed for home. All in all a wonderful holiday but with little success in finding the perfect place to move to.

As yet I haven't had time to go through all the posts as their are so many to peruse. I missed all of you and am glad to be back on deck again.

Take care all.

Love

Jenye. :) :)

G'day all,

Well the cool change has hit town and it is bucketing down with rain:) :) Of course where the rain is really needed, nothing:(

Ann your description of the bus trip sounded fun and the history of 'swamp gravy' was interesting. I don't know if I could eat 'deep fried pork chops', the dessert sounded good though ;)
The University where the shooting took place is not the Uni my dd attends but it is the Uni my son in law goes to, however he had no lectures yesterday when the shootingn happened. We have very strict gun laws but obviously not strict enough. This world is certainly getting crazier every day.

Jenye nice to 'see' you back and sounds like you have also had a nice break. I love Bendigo, I think it is such a pretty little town. The drought is certainly bad, it must be heart breaking for our farmers to literally see their income go to dust.

DH just rang me from Sydney and tomorrow is THE day when the redundancies are announced, 10 000 world wide :fr:
DH wasn't sure if that was US time or Australian time we will be :crossed: There aren't many left in Australia and the few employees here are reasonably confident.
I applied for a job earlier this week and had a message left on my answering service to call them. I just didn't feel like it this morning, I would like a bit of a break before I start a new job. DH thought it was probably best to wait till the end of the week when we have a bit more of an idea about our future.

How was your lunch with your dil Slavika ? Have they gotten over the break-in a little?
I might try and go and see the Greek Wedding movie this week as well.
Off to the dentist first thing tomorrow morning,:yikes: I wished I wasn't so paranoid about dentists, I know I need another crown.

Cheers all:balloons:

Maria: De Fluffing is going good so far. I dont normally WI alot. But I did today and 2# have bitten the dust :) Knew some was fluff so it sounds like that was the fluff part. Now to work on the fat part :) Sounds like your Lunch was wonderful! Sorry DH left for a while tho. Mine is having some trouble finding one in this area. Might have to move. ALAS.............
Oh my goodness, I didnt hear about the shootings. Was to busy yesterday to pay attention to the news. Glad your SIL wasnt there! And oh my goodness 10,000 even World Wide is alot. We do alot of dealings with Lucent so I wonder how that is going to effect my company.

Slavika: No we didnt make it to the Hotel for Tea. But we did go in and look around. Wish I could afford to stay there. Yeah right! Like that will ever happen. It is so beautiful! Looked at some of the stores they have in there to. Bought them out, I wish. If I did I would probably be in Jail over there now. Beautiful things and all out of my price range!
But sure was fun to look!
Those Scones do sound good. Yummmm, cept no more sweet stuff for me for a while. :(

Peggy: Sounds like the Craft fair went really well if you sold all your stuff! Thats good news! Glad the weather clear up for Sunday!

Ann: Swamp Gravy doesnt sound to bad. When I first read it I thought of yuck seaweed and all the kind of stuff. If the Points Braclet doesnt make it to your area, I would be happy to get you one and send it when it is available. I dont know if the WI will be free or not for the Great American WI, they didnt cover that part. I would hope so.

Jenye: Sounds like you had a great Holiday. Oh what I would give to go to Australia some day. From all the pictures Maria posts it is so beautiful.

Best get busy, Im swapped at work. :grouphug:

Maria - in my opinion, my children remember things so very differently than I do. I know we weren't perfect, but they remember us as being total ogres. I just went to a baby shower and we had to write down advice to the new parents. My advice was to realize you will make mistakes, that each child is different and requires an adaption, but that it is the "pattern" of your life that leaves the memories. We all have highs and lows, but the overall "pattern" is what is important.

Hi Everybody DH is home sick with a flu today. Our son was sick with it on Sunday. If my husband stays home from work then he REALLY must not be feeling too good. I did go out for lunch with my dil and we had a long leisurely lunch and talked about all kinds of things and I ejoyed spending time with her. Afer lunch I went with her to see the condition of her van. It has now been towed to the dealership that they bought it at. It has been fingerprinted etc by the police and now the work on it can be started. It was difficult for her seeing the van in that condition....seats gone, CD player just ripped out, three of the tires, flat, lots of grease spots and dirt in the interior. :( The good news is that it can be fixed up. The sort of bad news is that the insurance company will only allow 55% of the value of the tires, and the depreciated value of the CD player. The seats apparently will be replaced with "used" seats
hopefully the colour matches the exsisting seats. You sure lose out when you have legitimate insurance claims. The home insurance covered the lose of our grandson's "Game Boy" games, but they too were replaced with "previously owned/played games. The thing is that some of the games were played at levels our grandson hasn't reached yet. He says you can't go back only forward. I don't know enough about them to know if this is true or not. I am buying him a new game tomorrow to add to his birthday gifts and I will ask at the electronic store.
In an short while I will be leaving to see "My Greek Wedding". I have heard so much about the movie, and am looking forward to it. I gave DH a bowl of chicken soup and a few crackers and that is all he wants. He is all wrapped up in a comforter in front of the TV. :headache:
Jenye sounds like you had a very nice holiday too. I love hearing about the different places people go. Maria you have been fortunate that you were able to see so many different places, with your DH's job. I hope that tomorrow will bring only good news for him and you of course. :lucky:
Well Lily having lunch out today and again tomorrow, I will have to do some serious de-fluffing too. I really have to devote more time to walking on that treadmill of mine too. :cb:
Talk to you all tomorrow. :)

G'day all,

Well so far so good, no announcements have been made to effect the Australian staff. I was surprised Lily that you were not aware of the intended reduction of staff in Lucent. Mind you I should not be surprised by anything Lucent does or doesn't do:dizzy: Eventhough the time dh has been with Lucent has created a bit of turmoil in our lives, we have certainly learnt lots and seen lots which we otherwise would not have experienced. Both dh and myself remind ourselves of that when we get frustrated with the uncertainty in our lives.

Been on my own this week and I have had a very lazy week other than 3 trips to the dentist and another 5 or so to go :( I am in need of yet another crown.
How are you going with your teeth Slavika that is now close on to one year since you had the implants done. Any regrets? Everytime I do go to the dentist he has more new and 'fangdangle' gadgets that makes going to the dentist a less traumatic experience.

Yesterday I had to go to get some stationary, as I came out of the store a chap (elderly, like as in my age:rolleyes: ) was looking over dh's little dream machine. I remotely unlocked the car and he turned around and said 'is this your passion?' I told him it was dh's and I just drive it! Well he went on and on how much he liked it and that his heart skips a beat everytime he sees one, and there I was thinking he was going to comment on MY good looks:D :D

We again had a bit of rain last night but not where it is needed. A number of bushfires are out of control near Sydney and we have also been warned that this summer there is high bush fire risk in our state of South Australia. The drought is just so bad for the farmers.
Also sad to hear the lunatic sniper is still on the loose in America. What joy does he get from this? As he seems to be leaving more notes, lets hope they will catch him soon.

Off to have some lunch
See ya all
Cheers
Maria

Lily it sounds like you had a wonderful time. And you left things for other people to buy. Slavika what a mess the van was. Hope that they catch whoever is responsilbe. What a nice Granny you are to replace the GameBoy. Trudy tell us about your "pampering". Have to make snowmen and turkeys. Sure am getting tired of this but tis the season.

Such good news today that the snipers have been caught, and it seems to me that they are sure they have the right ones. I just can't understand what makes a person do such things.

Maria: Hope things continue to go well with Lucent. We spent some time at the dentist. I don't have to go back for a year as all is well. but my DH has scads of work to be done. It seems that all the work he had done a couple of years ago, did not last at all and has to be re-done to the tune of $3100. We choked a bit on that.

Trudy: We are all seeming to be in the 'de-fluffing' mode. Isn't it good that we can just keep up the struggle and not get too discouraged.

Slavika: How sad for your kids to see their van in such shape. And that the insurance wouldn't give them new seats. I wonder about insurance companies sometimes. We pay big enough premiums.:(

Peggy: Turkeys and Snowmen. Sounds like you will be busy. Hope your sales go well.

Lily: Are you now back in the swing of things after your vacation?
I'll be interested to know what happens with the bracelets at out meeting. Hope they will come east too. How is the de-fluffing going?

Glenda: haven't heard you say much about your boss lately. Is he getting settled into the job, so he is not so demanding, or are you just used to him and know how to stay out of his way?

Hi Jenye, and Karen. What's new with you.

I just have to rant and rave a bit about a pet peeve. We get so much junk mail, and I have a mail filter also. But some just cleverly gets by. So everyday I have to do a big delete job. Do you have the same problem. Spam has become a bad word

Well, enough of that . Thanks for listening. 'See' you tomorrow.

Slavika: SOrry your DH has been sick. Hope he feels better soon!
I havent been good on my threadmill this week. I cant seem to get out of bed on time. I have made the gym to do my other exercises. Just not waking up in time to get the threadmill in. I Must still be on Vacation time :)

Maria: I talk with people all the time at Lucent, and no one has said a word about it to me. Course I havent call there for about a month now. Maybe thats why.

Trudy: Mineral Spa? How wonderful and fun! Were you Pampered silly?
Would love to do that again. Did it about a year ago and really enjoyed it.

Peggy: Didnt leave them much left tho
I did spend a fortune just not at the hotel. So all the people can go over there and shop. :)

Ann: Im with you and the Spam. I hate it. Its getting so bad, that i get mail from myself to myself saying go to this great site. And we all know what kind of site that is :) But there are people out there using others mail to send spam mail. They arent actually using thier mail just thier email addy. Lots of sick people out there.

Been so busy this week. I hate coming back from vacation!
