I was doing well with my diet and exercise. Then one day I just stopped trying.
To explain, there's a long and unusual story. I was staying with a friend rent free due to unemployment and financial woes. My roommate created a computer which does many things: it waters the garden, closes the garage door at a predetermined time, announces guests in the driveway, monitors the house fans, turns on the living room lights at night, etc. Well, my kitchen was the basement canning kitchen where there is no light switch a 5'2" girl can reach. And the computer was also in charge of turning on the basement kitchen light whenever someone is in the room. Things were going well until my roommate started the process of giving the computer additional duties. After he made some hardware and software adjustments, the computer wouldn't turn the lights on in the kitchen or it would turn them on and off alot ... mostly the lights would be off. I'm not very adept with kitchen knives - cutting up a rutabega or a beet can require multiple bandaids when I have light to work in.:o In the dark, I'm hopeless. I protested the situation for months, begging him to fix the light issue. He didn't get it fixed and one day I just quit.

I quit cooking and quit watching my food intake. I started eating fast food and all you can eat buffets for my daily meals. Plus LOTS of sweets. When I stopped caring about my food, I also cancelled my membership at the gym. I felt my clothes getting tight and my body aching from the excess weight I was hauling around but I didn't care.

I just moved into my own apartment on July 5th and one of the first things I unpacked and used was my scale. I weighed 263.0 pounds. Ouch. I started cooking my meals again and today I weighed in at 249.6. So I'm making progress.

If nothing else, during my last weight loss efforts I learned more about what works for me and what doesn't. I'm not going be upset that I gained weight. I'm going to get down to my goal weight by using portion control and exercise.

And I'll hang out here on 3FC. And NO, I'm NOT changing my ticker! LOL
Well, maybe ... just not yet.
