30-Somethings - Week of October 6

View Full Version : Week of October 6

10-06-2002, 11:11 AM
Hi all!! Wow, I'm not even up early and I'm still first here. You guys must be out having lots of fun. I stayed up 'til 1:30 last night working on the project. I'm wiped out today. :) I can't do late nights anymore. I think the project is about 3/4 done. I'm going to try to get it all done today. That would certainly be a load off of my mind. Especially since my presentation is due in two weeks  . I'll be glad when that is over.

OK, back to the grindstone!! Hope you're having a great Sunday.

10-06-2002, 11:37 AM
good morning!!! Just been up since 5am rolling around in bed soo I got up and watched tv!!!

Have a great weekend!!!

10-06-2002, 01:54 PM
Hi All,

I was up at 2:00 & 5:50 to pee. Should've stayed up at 6:00, because I was wide awake and starving!! I considered getting up and having a bowl of cereal, but decided my sheets felt much better. :) Didn't actually get up until 9:45, when I remembered I wanted to try a new church that started at 10:45!

The church was OK, but it was too long (just over an hour) and way too much singing...I mean, I like the singing, but it was all newer stuff, not the traditional hymns I know, and I would've rather just get to the message. Also they did communion, so that took a little longer. It's a fairly small church, less than 100 people, but they were very nice. I may try it again, but I don't know.

Today I have to do some cleaning, laundry and stuff, but I also want to look at some open houses. Just in the mood to walk around them.

Have a great day all!

hi all.

dh & I had a great day yesterday. We went to a fair yesterday and then to the cheesecake factory benefit last night. The food was excellent. We didn't go to the buffet line - too long - but they had people all over walking around with appetizers. My favorite was the chicken quesadilla. Then our table had probably 4 different types of cheesecake that I tried. My favorites were the raspberry & the chocolate. They were both great. I had some of each, but did not eat a whole piece. I'm sure there were enough calories in the bites I had!

Karen - hope your time off thing works out for you. :^: ~ I have been to cheesecake factories before but this was the first time I've actually had the cheesecake. The meals have large portions and I'm never hungry for dessert. ~ good luck getting that project done!

hello to everyone else! have a great week.

Happy Sunday Everyone,

Sorry I wasn't around last week. I've been PMSing and making very poor food choices so I felt guilty and didn't want to come around. I felt bad because my new found commitment lasted less than 2 weeks :o . Well, no sense crying about just get back to it!!! So I'm starting over today. Hopefully I didn't do to much damage, but I guess the not seeing my weight at WW may help. (usually after pig out weeks like this I loose and that just plays with my mind).

LBH - If you lived closer I'd say you came to our church . How are your classes going? Is DH being open?

Karen - What does your DH do that he knows JAVA? I am so happy I don't have to take programing. What I had I hated.

RR - Glad you survived the storms well.

Rabbit - I can't imagine going to the Cheesecake Factory and not having cheesecake, it is the one dessert I have a hard time passing up. I'll eat 1/2 a dinner to save room at our favorite Italian resteraunt.

Well, I read everyone elses posts yesterday, but I'll be darned if I can remember what they said. Must be old age

Have a great week everyone.

- Tech :^:

Wakeywakey all! New Monday coming up and shining on the horizon!

Lauren, that's just too funny! I recognized the word immediately by the way you wrote it! "Smeerlap" does indeed mean "dirty person"! You really have got difficult baby leave conditions!

Rabbit, sorry you had to redo the bed and bathroom, what a pain:censored: ! When I moved into my current apt, I did all the painting myself, except for the bedroom, because when I started on it, half of the ceiling plaster came off and got stuck (mainly in my hair). Turned out it'd gotten wet from the balcony/terrace which is right above it (no insulation!!!). So I got the (nice) landlord to fix it but by then all my furniture had moved in and I never got round to do the rest of the ceiling. Now, half the ceiling is done and the other half's got clouds in strange shapes (1 looks like a killer bunny rabbit, not kidding), in sun-down yellow and grey tones (nice combo , huh!?). Am to lazy to do anything about it now, as I mostly sleep when I face the ceiling anyway... Water mocassins?! Lucky we only have the other kind here!
The cheesecake factory sounds really yummy! How was it? We've got smt here that's got real cheesecake (the "cheesecake Castle" ) too but I try to avoid it!

RR, good you got out of it ok!

Karen, sorry about the mess with the leave! Hope the sick leave works out! Try and make good use of your spare time now and do things you can and that you should have done and didn't have any (like resting, something I'm really short on!) Good about the extra$$$ for DH's tutoring!

Tech, don't go away when you feel you're not sticking to the food thing! that's the whole point! It's helped me "confess" to stay op. Anyway, pigging out for 2 days after a very ok 2 weeks is no problem.

I had a nice weekend (again). Went to my sister's boyfriend's wedding and to the apt in Loutraki. Even had a good swim despite the weather (rainy and cloudy but warm), the sea was like a mirror! Finally got a dress back I lent my sister last year, but what with all this and that we never got round to it before. Also got some nice presents from home: Nicci French's new novel "the red room". I have already read about 150 pages since yesterday, couldn't put it down!
Also, weights start to show, I am the shrinking woman! Have no idea about the weight, though, and am afraid to look! but who cares, am staying op nicely!

Good start to all,

see ya tomo...

Hi All,

Had my first appt. with the midwife today. I am pleased with her soo far. I told her our gripe about the Dr., but she just said they're a pretty laid back office. No apology for him, not that I think she should apologize for him, but whatever.... I told her that DH said as long as I'm comfortable there, he's OK with it. And she agreed, if I wasn't, I shouldn't be there.

She did a full exam, including internal. She said since she doesn't know my pelvis, which makes sense. One good thing she said is that I have a huge pelvis, which means unless Petey's 10 lbs, he should come out pretty easy!! :D Whew...that about made my day!! She told me to make sure I get plenty of protein and cut down on starches. Also said she's fine with my weight gain, as long as it keeps rising slow and steady, which it is. I've gained 17lbs. as of this AM. She did say if I wanted to gain less, that's fine too, but she's OK with it how I am. My BP was a perfect 120/70, and Petey's heart sounded great. He's still head up, which is normal. I thought he had flipped, because of the p/u in kicks, but I guess it's just him being more active.

Next appt. is in 3 wks., then every two weeks. I have to go to the lab and do the 1 hr. Glucose Tolerance Test before my next appt., as I'll be 28 wks. then. I really hope I pass it, because I don't wanna go through the 3 hr. GTT!! :yikes:

Gotta run and get dressed for work, I'm running late! Hope everyone's have a great day!

10-07-2002, 02:07 PM
Hi all. Well, my mind may not like being off work but, boy, my house is sure enjoying it. I'm cleaning things I never thought of in the four years we've been here. Tops of window frames, windows, light fixture of the dining room table. I washed the kitchen curtains too and they practically fell apart. I was very disappointed. They weren't terribly expensive, but they weren't cheap either. I had expected them to be more durable than that. I had to get some stitch witchery to repair the seams, trim off a bunch of hanging threads and starch them like crazy to get them to look decent (sp?). I don't know what I'll do when it's time to wash them again. They will never survive.

I found the cutest crib bumper pad set and comforter/sheets at Target today if Peanut is a boy. It's airplanes all done in primary colors. I have decided that I want to paint the room a bright white. There is a chair rail in there and I think I will paint it bright blue and maybe one window frame red and the other yellow. How's that sound? Should I stick to one color for the windows? I can't decide. If peanut is a girl I think I want to do Raggedy Ann and Andy. That way the chair rail could still be blue. Maybe just the window sill should be painted? I dunno. Guess I've got time to decide, but since I'm off I wanted to get started.

Lauren: Your midwife sounds cool. My doctor said to gain no more than 20 pounds. So far I haven't gained anything, not even the five pounds back. I better knock on wood here! I haven't weighed in a couple of days. I haven't eaten well the past couple of days.

Tech: DH has had computers and played with every aspect of them since he was ten years old. He has very little formal training, no degree. He just knows this stuff inside and out. I don't mean to make it sound like he doesn't need training, he did take a week long course in Java. Just wish it could stay with me like it does with him. It just leeks out my ears as fast as it goes in my eyes!!

GG: Glad you had a great weekend.

OK, gotta go finish putting things back together around here. The kids are coming at 7pm for the tutoring. Have a great afternoon/evening!!

10-07-2002, 05:58 PM

Wednesday & Friday I have painting going on this week and then that should be all of it. :^: I will definitely be happy to get my house in order. It may be a while though as I'll be gone over the weekend, get home Sunday, and leave again on Monday for a week. Good thing I'm not expecting any company or anything.

Tech - sorry you had such a rough week. :( Don't disappear on us! ~ I love cheesecake too.

Greek - the food was great - and it definitely is a place to avoid! ~ hooray op! :D

Lauren - glad everything went well at your doctor appt.

Karen - your room plans sound cute! :bb:

later! Rabbit :spin:

10-07-2002, 10:47 PM
We're back from K.C. the show was pretty good - had rain again!!! I've got a few weeks off before we do Cincinnati and Columbus OH. I'm sending DH alone to the next two (LittleRock and St Louis). Maybe this weekend I can get caught up on the quarterly tax stuff and clean my office - tomorrow I'm going to go look for a new office desk (thats right, spend money on something new just to get me to organize).

Concerning our friends. We did get a call about Micah over the weekend (the 19 yr old in the truck wreck) he died on Saturday. They are having a memorial service at a lake about 2 hours north of us on Wednesday - complete with candle service and bonfire. I can tell just from those plans that Micah was a very poplular boy in his highschool and college. Marilyn is still hanging on, very weak. We're just not sure what will happen.

hi everybody

well still no luck finding a house. i had a line on a good one and the owner even said i was at the top of her list because i could move in asap. i filled out the app and she said she had a lot of other people who were interested. she said she'd make a decision by friday and i never heard back. so i guess she went with somebody else :( i called about another house today on the SAME STREET but that guy hasn't called me back. i don't understand why nobody ever seems to call back. don't they WANT to rent their houses?? :?:

Rabbit - cheesecake factory is awesome!! a friend of mine went there a few months ago and got 4 slices to split between us. after that i learned how to make my own (very low fat) cheesecake. turned out pretty well!! i still crave the real thing though every once in a while :o

tech - don't beat yourself up over a few days! just get back op and forget about it. that's what i try to do :) otherwise i'd have given up LONG ago! i agree with GG. a few pig out days aren't gonna hurt in the long run.

karen - good luck with the time off. i hope it helps!

lauren - i hope the midwife works out for you. i'm glad dh is being more supportive!

jul - i'm very sorry to hear about your friends :( it's always sad when someone dies, but someone that young it just makes it harder to understand.

hopefully i'll talk to you all sooner rather than later. everything has just been so :dizzy: around here. the scale hasn't budged in a few weeks. not up or down. i guess it could be worse! :^:

10-08-2002, 06:32 AM
Good Morning!!!

Lauren--Glad the MW appointment went well...I go back on the 22nd for another sonagram..They are gonna watch Tootie more closely since the GD thing going on...She said that since my pelvis is small, she will let me try to labor but after 2 hrs if no progression with the baby, she is doing a C-Sec...I dont care if I have to burp her out, I just want her out and safe!!!!

Karen-U R soo funny...I have just now got my nursery done...I was scared to start until now at almost 30weeks!!!Isnt this fuN???

La--Good Luck on the house thing!!!!!

Jul===I will keep your friend in my prayers...Life is soo hard sometimes!!!

Take care all!!!!

10-08-2002, 09:23 AM
Hi All,

Jul- I'm soo sorry to hear about Micah. I hope his family and friends find some peace. Still praying for your friend and her family.

RR- You're too funny...burp her out!! I got an email from my Aunt this AM, her DIL is in labor. I think her EDD was still a week or 2 off, but she went to the hospital at 9:00 last night, and at 7:45 this AM she was 6 cm and had a spinal. They're also having a boy, so there'll be 2 new boys in the family within a couple months of each other. They live in Colorado though, so I won't get to see them til they come out here at Christmas.

LA- Good luck with the house hunting. I don't understand why people don't call back!! It's like, uh, at least give me the courtesy of a call back to say it's rented!!

Karen- Enjoy your time off, but don't go broke during it!! I haven't even started shopping for crib sets yet!! Actually, I think I'm in denial, because they're soo darn expensive, and there's too many to choose from. And the one's I like are of course the most expensive one, and I refuse to pay that much for crib bedding!!

Have a great day all!!

10-08-2002, 01:35 PM
hello. :flow1:

Just a quick post before I run out. I'm doing well on the weight thing even though I have taken a break from weight watchers. I got tired of going to the meetings and I was just going up & down, up & down. Normally I would think that I need the meetings for the accountability aspect of it, but that doesn't seem to be a problem this time. I may go back again one day, but now I just needed to get away! Although, I am still counting points on my own and plan to continue to do so.

Jul - glad another show went well for you! :D ~ So sorry to hear about the teenager. It just breaks my heart.

LA - maybe one of these days the perfect place will pop up for you! :^: ~ I don't know why people don't return calls! I had so many problems getting roofers, repair people to call me - so frustrating.

hello to all I missed - and to those who are missing!

Rabbit :flow2:

10-08-2002, 07:00 PM
Hi all. Well, I have most of my project done, I just have to get the dumb database stuff working. I will be SO glad when this is over. (I bet you will too so that I quit kvetching!!)

I went to IKEA with my in-laws today to look at baby furniture. Their stuff is definitely cheaper, but some of it is SO ugly. MIL said that one of the cribs looked just like a packing box. She said it looked like you were going to ship the kid off somewhere. :p They had one nice crib and a nice armoir and bureau but they didn't match. It was such an awful not match that you couldn't pretend.

Eating has not been great today. I did check the scales last night and nearly had a heart attack. They said I had gained *7* pounds in the last couple of days. Then I looked down and realized that the cat was standing on the scale with me. So, I have not gained any weight since I've been PG. I guess that's ok since I am only 10 1/2 weeks.

Lauren: When did you first feel Petey moving? I can't wait, that way I will know that everything is OK with the little Peanut.

Alright. Teach is here so I gotta go. Have a great evening.

10-08-2002, 09:05 PM
Hi All,

Karen- I felt flutters earlier, probably in my teen weeks, but the first good "thumps" as I call them, was at 19 weeks, right after my U/S. I'm just now (the past couple weeks) starting to feel them on a daily basis.

Rabbit- It's kind of a part of you, counting points, isn't it? I still log everything I eat, most of the time, but I have stopped writing down points...but I'm always thinking that way.

10-09-2002, 05:58 AM
Good Morning!!!

Not feeling well with a yucky cough, really bad 5 times a day nose bleeds and fever...I can take Robitussin..WOW...really helps alot!! NOT!!!!IT is also making my sugar a little more elevated, I guess from being sick and not eating as much...Of course, the cough syrup is making Tootie a little wild!!!We have "bonded" all night long!!!I guess a 3lb baby in this belly makes a good commotion!!!!

Karen-I was about 18 or 19 weeks when I felt flutters usually in the bath tub when it was quiet...I wasnt sure about the little tummy tickles until at 20 they got regular and stronger..Now at 30, she is flipping and flopping and even gets the stomach lopsided at times..She had hiccoughs for 10minutes last night and made my belly button pop out with each jump..Too funny!!!

Hello all!!!
Time to hit the pavement!!!!!

10-09-2002, 09:54 AM
Hi RR, sorry to hear you're sick! Too funny about the flips!

Lauren, glad DH has gotten round in a way! countdown time!

Karen, when it's time to wash the curtains again and they come apart completely, just throw them away! It's better than having to look at them all the time. & you have lots of time to look for nice and cheap baby things! Don't get dissappointed so soon.

Rabbit, have you finished the painting? bet it looks wonderful!

Jul, sorry about Micah! Hang in there with the shows and everything.

LA, I'm also waiting for my dreamhouse to get free. I know all about the "I'll call you backs", too (somethings are the same EVERYWHERE), just stay on track, the scale thing could also come because of stress!

This has not been a good few days. Ex-BF who is still living with me (and with whom we had a heavy discussion yesterday), is going out with someone else (but so am I, all things said), but he's doing it on purpose to make me envious (so I am acting like everything is 100%coolotastic, which is not so difficult, as I do see the absurd and funny side of this weird situation). I feel like I am living in a Woody Allen film, where I am the bespectacles klutzy hero tripping over his/her own feet...So I hope I can move really fast so I can get my peace back. Had a nice time with sis, fortunately , so it balances out.

Love to all,

10-09-2002, 09:55 AM
I just found this sight and I think it is just the kick in the butt that I need.:^: I am mom to 3 kids ages 10, 9 & 9. I had lost 135 pounds but I gained about half of it back and I want to get rid of it for good.My main plan is to stop eating any unnecessary fats and stop snacking at night(That is a biggie for me:s: )I am looking forward to getting to know everyone.I have been on it for about 3 days but haven't had any upsets yet.PS: I also own a bakery (as if weight loss wasnt hard enough as it is*grin*

10-09-2002, 12:24 PM
hello. :hypno:

I've had a good couple of days with not being hungry, not sure why, but I like it. :)

My painter was supposed to come today to redo the bed/bath but her daughter is sick. One of these days I will get this done. Now she won't be here until Friday - when she was supposed to paint the ceilings. So now that has to be put off. Unfortunately she can't do it next week because I will be out of town all week . . .:stress:

Karen - too funny about the cat on the scales.

Lauren - yes that counting points does stick in my head!

RR - hope you are feeling better.

Greek - sorry about the ex-bf troubles.

Angie - Welcome! That night time snacking is a problem of mine also! Good luck on your weight loss goals. ~ Oh the bakery would make it really tough! :chef: :cookie: :donut: Oh my!

have a great day.

10-09-2002, 01:15 PM
Hi All,

Well, I've taken what the instructor told us seriously, and started counting my protein. Apparently I'm not having too much trouble getting it in, because the recommended amount is 80-100 grams and I had 126 yesterday! It's amazing how much protein is in stuff. For example:
1 c. of OJ = 2 g.
1 c. skim = 8 g.
1 T. peanut butter = 4 g.
1 c. cottage cheese - 24 g.!!
6 oz. FF yogurt = 5 g.
1 c. pasta - 6 g.
1/4 c. ricotta = 8 g.
3 oz. pork - 21 g.!!
donut (like a powdered one) = 5 g.

I feel like this really gave me the kick I needed to pay attention to what I'm eating. Kind of like when I first joined WW going on 4 yrs. ago! We have to write everything down, with the protein grams everyday and turn it in to her every week! So there's accountability. Even 1 c. of icecream has 6 grams of protein!! :D

Rabbit- Bummer about the painting.

Angie- Welcome!!

GG- Good luck with the ex-bf issue.

RR- Bummer, hope you're feeling better soon. :( Too funny about the belly button though.

I can't believe it's almost 12:30 already!! Where did the AM go?! Have a great day all!

10-09-2002, 03:41 PM
Hello All,

I'm procrastinating. I don't want to go grocery shopping  I've made out the menu and the shopping list, now I just need to go to the store, instead I'm on the computer. I had a little bit of a stomach thing on Monday, so I came home from work early and laid on the couch all afternoon, then made pork chops under stuffing, w/mushroom soup for dinner. Not real WW but a giant comfort food. K's working on the furnace this afternoon, the blower fan decided to sieze up this morning, it's been making noise since we bought the house, but aparently this year it's worse. Hopefully he can fix it and we don't need to buy a new motor :( .

RR - Hope you feel better. Too funny about the hiccups.

Rabbit - Sorry about the painter. Good luck staying OP while out of town.

LBH - glad the mw things working out for you and that DH is coming around.

Jule - Sorry about your freinds. It's so hard when young/er people die or are terminal.

Karen - You crack me up. I'd go with the different colored windows, and lots of brights, but that's me

GG - Yellow and grey clouds  Good luck with the ex-BF situation and finding a new place.

LA - Good luck on the house hunting. People can be so rude sometimes.

Angie - Welcome :D.

Well guess I should get busy. Have a great day all.

-Tech :twirly:

10-09-2002, 06:48 PM
Lauren - I must have missed this about your counting protein grams. Why does she have you doing this? Is that the only thing you need to count? Curious here. (note - I've been working on balancing the carb/protein thing).

Tech - thanks for the good luck wishes - I am sure to need them.

afternoon everyone!

still no change on the housing situation. the woman who decided not to give me the house i applied for last week called and said she decided to go with a family thinking they'd be a better long-term tenant. so first i'm discriminated against becaues i have a dog. now because i don't have a husband and/or kids. what's next??

to all the sickies -- i hope you're all feeling better!!

to the pre-mommies -- i hope everything's going well. i know you're getting close!

GG -- good luck to you too. at least i'm only living with my parents. i'd be going nuts if my ex-bf was living with me :o

angie -- welcome!

wow lauren, i don't get anywhere near 100g protien for the day. i ran a report on fitday and i get about 25% of my calories from protein. of course i haven't been logging as religiously as i did before i moved. it thinks my avg caloric intake is 700 cal since i can't really add dinners now since i don't really know what i'm eating. but mom is very health conscious so i know it's not bad :)

ok back to work for me. hope you're all having a great day!

10-09-2002, 06:57 PM
Hi all. I have had a totally lazy day today. I did nothing but read a book, take a nap and make dinner. Totally unproductive. :D

RR: Sorry that you aren't feeling well. Hope you feel better soon. Hiccups huh. The fun things I have to look forward to!!

Lauren: I hope I don't have to keep track of all that when it's my turn for childbirth classes. I had a hard enough time journaling!!

Angie: Welcome to the group. Wow, a bakery huh......that would make dieting hard. I love almost everything bakery!!

Rabbit: Sorry about the painter. Hope things work out for when you get back.

Tech: Did ya make it to the grocery store?

OK, the kids are coming back for more tutoring tonight so I gotta go get ready. :) Hope you all have a wonderful evening.

Hi girls,

thanx for the support! I'm kinda getting used to it slowly, and anyway, am looking forward to getting a place on my own again. IYesterday night, when on my way to my hockey (field) game and in a hurry, I hit someone trying to unpark (dead angle...), unhooked my bumper and dented his right from door (new BMW, oops) fortunately, he was very nice about it, and I'm covered anyway. The game made it up, kind of, we won 3-0. If we can keep this up, we could become national champions 3 times in a row! That would be so cool:cool: ! The team is made up with girls and women anything from 15 to 50 (not kidding), and lots of fun! So I went home feeling slightly better, and dropped dead in bed.
AND stayed op

This for today,

& Welcome Angie!

Hi All,

Man, it is getting harder and harder to get up in the mornings, now that it's dark out when I need to get up. So I'm dragging myself up at 7:15 when DH is leaving, and then lazing around until 7:45 before I get into the shower!! Geez, no wonder I never make it to work on time!! Good thing no one's watching... :sneaky:

GG- Ouch, on the car...glad the guy was nice about it.

RR- Glad you're feeling a little better. Hey, you know those white stockings, Tens, I think they're called, that they put on old people in the hospital? Would they help control the swelling? I thought maybe just knee highs would help, but it seems to make it just as bad. It's very annoying to have such huge ankles!! It's actually more on the left side than the right. LOL, a boy huh? Same as my mom thinking it's a girl ever since I told her it was a boy!! We'd have to trade clothes!!

Karen- I love lazy days like that. I had half days Monday and Tuesday this week, and I thought to myself, gee, I could get used to only working a half day.

LA- Is Fitday free? Maybe I should check that out, if I can run reports like that and all. I'm sure you're getting what you need, if your mom's a good cook! I made spinach lasagna Sunday night and the instructor said that's basically a perfect meal, because I've got everything in it I need, and it's good in protein. I didn't count how much, because that was technically last week, before she told us to.

Rabbit- The instructor was telling us how the protein helps regulate your blood sugars, and that's why we should have a lot of it. I'm sure there was more to it than I'm remembering right now. She said you don't get that 3:00 slump if you eat enough protein. Like, for a snack, have an apple w/pb...bad example, I just realized, since you don't like pb....or cheese and crackers. Just mix your carbs with protein. Like I've been having a small can of peaches with a cup of cottage cheese lately. It's yummy, and very high in protein.

Tech- Hope you made it to the store, and K got the furnace fixed. Wouldn't that just suck to have to fix that right before winter!

Have a great day all!

Hello Everyone,

Quick reply, because I was on line paying bills. I didn't make it to the store yesterday, went outside and started pulling up the summer bulbs I had planted in a flower box and then planted the flowers my mom had split off of hers (Irises and Mums). By the time we finished it was 7:00 . So we grabbed leftovers from the freezer and had that. Now I really need to go today. I work the next 2 days and we're getting low on food!!

Anyway, I was only over 1 pt for yesterday, which is better than I've been for a week. So I'm hoping I'm getting back on track.

GG - Sorry about the car. Congrats on the game :D.

RR - You are one busy lady I can't imagine all that and I'm not 6 mos pg!!

LA - Continued good luck on the house search, I know it :censored:.

LBH - Sounds like the diet they put me on when I was diagnosed as hypoglysemic (sp) in college. I've discovered it's worse when I'm stressed (ie college) and I need to go back to it. Apples and PB are one of my favorite pm snacks.

Well need to get cracking. I've got church youthgroup this afternoon and need to get everything done before then.

Have a great day everyone!

hello. :flow2:

I went .5 over yesterday - it was the darned chex mix I made for ds to take to school. We have parents weekend this weekend - should be fun, always enjoy it. Hard to believe he is a senior.

I should check in here tomorrow before I leave. Then I'll probably be gone until the 22nd. We get back on Sunday but I'm leaving on Monday for Orlando to open a store and will be gone for a week. Hope to control the food while I'm gone, it's tough eating out all the time. I usually do a continental breakfast though and try to make a smart choice for lunch.

La - sorry about the house situation. :(

Karen - spending the day reading sounds excellent! :D

Rr - glad you are feeling better. :)

Greek - congrats on the game.

Lauren - Enjoy your sleep while you can! ~ Interesting info - thanks for sharing.

gotta run - Rabbit :flow1:

almost forgot - today is my 4 year anniversary of quitting smoking!!:smoking: :tape:

Lauren, I have exactly the same problem. I’m not the world’s most famous early bird anyway, but when it gets dark I get really depressed when getting up. When I still lived in the Netherlands (which is much more to the north than Greece, about where NY is), I HATED getting up when it was dark. Here down south it’s better but still…
For RR I think there are special stockings for people with varicose veins, that help “massage” the legs and stimulate circulation. They are also good for swollen legs. Here we get them at the Pharmacist’s. I think there are even different “massage” gradation. Plain massage also helps, massage from the foot upwards (or better still, find somebody to do this), + peppermint foot spray
Yeah, Fitday is free and it’s an awesome program! It even calculates how many “good” and “Bad” fats you eat, + fiber etc and all the rest. It has stats per day, week, month, to show you overall calorie intake, too (so you can see what the overall picture is). Now I can do without, I can pretty much calculate what’s what myself, but it was really helpful.
Easy proteins for snacking by the way include: cottage cheese, plain low fat (preferably not fat free, some vitamins are only soluble in fat and if you eat fat-free you miss out on them, + not much calorie difference anyway) yoghurt, low fat cheese, soy mincemeat (tasteless when cooked so can be added to anything, from yoghurt to fruit to spaghetti), slices of low-fat deli ham, turkey, chicken, whatever (about 3 oz, 3 slices), protein powder mixed with skim milk, etc.

Tech, yeah on the point! As far as I was able to figure out, 1 point equals about 50 cals (if you can have 30/day, that would equal 1500 which sounds about right), so you didn’t do bad there! Hope you have that furnace fixed soon!

I had THE most amazing evening yesterday. I thought I knew Athens very well after 7 years, so my friend took me to the center and into the “Metaxourgio” (“Silk factories”), hood, which is comparable to Harlem (but lots safer). It is a run-down neighborhood, with very ugly buildings, and really nice ones that need doing up, though. The people living there are basically foreigners and lots are here illegal, like Kurds, Chinese, Pakistanis, Bangladeshi’s etc. I never felt threatened for one moment, everyone was really helpful when we asked the way etc., and we must have walked about through there about an hour at least. There was music coming from a lot of places and kids were still playing on the streets (22.30 night!). And it was warm, too!
We even stumbled on a Gypsy street wedding, complete with live band and all the young women dancing in the middle of a circle together with the bride (classical gypsy costume in white!). She looked very happy and about 15-16 (that’s how young gypsies get married here), and all the people were standing around were cheering and clapping. It was like something out of another world.
We didn’t stay (that would have been considered rude, gypsies tend to like to keep to themselves, as they are very low on the social ladder and resent being controlled in any way).
We continued our walk and finally had dinner in a redone old stone factory, which has been made into a very cool party center (bars, restaurants, a theater) in the same area (!). It’s a really cool place in the middle of this old rubbish waiting to be done up, and has absolutely AWESOME interior & exterior decorating. Talking about falling from one world into another! Got home at 02.30 (again) well, it was well worth it! I feel a lot better! The wine was perfect also! Oops…
I love this country, you fall from one extreme in the other. Keeps you on your toes!

Tonight will go see my cousin and namesake niece and nephew with my sister. She is SOOOOOOOO cute! Like a little (sly) doll! Wish I had one like that!

Well, have a nice weekend all!

Lauren-They are called TED hose...MY oB ordered me the JOBST brand cuz they are stronger and have more compression...My problem was the leg cramps at night not any swelling..Havent seen that one yet..I guess nose bleeds, higher sugars, leg cramps, BH contractions, sinus congestion was all the fun I could handle!!!! :D :D :D

GG--U lead too exciting of a life!!!!I think I burn calories just reading about it!!!!!

Have a nice day all!!!!

10-11-2002, 08:31 AM
Hi All,

RR- So do you think it's worth it for me to get a pair? Are they more for cramps, or swelling?

GG- I don't know about anyone else, but I have this awesome imagination, and whenever I read your posts I get this image in my head of where you are, and what it was like!! Last night sounds like it's out of a movie!!

Rabbit- Happy Anniversary and congrats!! I guess I will be hitting 4 yrs. at the end of January!! Time flies when you're having fun! Do you enjoy travelling soo much? Have fun and behave yourself!

Tech- I love apples and I love PB, but actually, I don't think I've ever had them together!! I've had a PB&J with a side of apple slices, I think, but that's it! Hmm, maybe I'll bring that for lunch today...don't have any apples though, they're not appealing to me the past couple months. My mom and I both tend to get a little hypoglycemic at times too.

Have a great day all!! (And where is everyone?! Jul, Nanci, everyone else?!)

10-11-2002, 08:32 AM
Hi everyone.I have made it through day number 4 successfully. I even rode my recumbent bike for 30 minutes( I told myself I would do it for 15 and went longer)
I am having my mom over tomorrow because she wants to start a breadmaking and pizza dough business and I need all the good thoughts I can get since it will be Saturday(my doomday) and all kinds of new products(which I have a hard time not sampling) BUT I think I can do it.I am determinned to succeed at this.
Are you all at your goals or still losing on Here?
I hope everyone has a nice day today!!!

10-11-2002, 08:41 AM
Hey Angie!! Glad to see you here!! Good luck with your mom tomorrow, I don't know how you do it, working in a bakery!!

My trick...although it's not perfected yet...is to tell myself I have to drink just as much water on the weekend as during the week. I fill my bottles just like I do for work, and just put them in the fridge, instead of my lunch cooler. I make sure whatever I'm doing, cleaning, out shopping, whatever, I have a bottle. It hasn't worked perfectly yet, but I am getting in more water than I used to on the weekend, which keeps me out of the junk.

10-11-2002, 09:00 AM
Angie, you can do it.
Try not to receive your mom on an empty stomach, but after a light meal, so you won't be tempted (too much)!
I am losing but SLOOWLY, but continuously. Who cares how fast as long as I feel good and don't go up.

Lauren, that was exactly how I felt yesterday! I wish you could burn calories by running around like a headless chicken(Dutch saying) like I do every day, then I would be around 115 pounds now...

Bye to all,

10-11-2002, 11:50 AM
hello. :flow1:

Drat the chex mix! And drat my weakness.:nono:

Today is a new day though. And I've been thinking of my plan for handling the coming 10 days - hope I stick to it. Traveling is a challenge. But, hey, what is life without it's challenges?? :)

Greek - I'm going to have to check out that fitday when I return. Sounds great! ~ What an interesting evening!

Lauren - yes I do enjoy the traveling. I've been averaging being gone opening a store about one week/month and that is do-able. Then sometimes I have other things thrown in, like a weekend in Chicago at my sister's, a weekend at ds' college . . . it keeps me going! Particulary when they all happen at once! ~ This will be my last store opening for this year though. The holiday season is upon us and it just gets too busy out there to open more stores. So I'll be home for a couple of months probably.

Angie - Hooray for the biking! :D ~ I am still working on losing. I want to lose somewhere between 30 - 40 pounds. :^:

Have a great weekend and week all! "See you" on the 22nd!

Rabbit

**note - the bedroom/bath is getting painted today (again! ) in the new taupe and I think I'm going to like it.

Hi fellow 30-somethings...I'm just barely getting in on this week! I just found the 3fc website yesterday and I've been enjoying reading many of the message boards, recipes, etc.

I am at the onset of ANOTHER attempt at weight loss. To "gear up" for this round, I have eliminated soft drinks & fast food from my diet repertoire over the past couple of weeks. I have also increased my water intake. My #1 problem is that I HATE to exercise, but that's the only thing that makes me have significant weight loss, sooo let me put this in writing to help me stick to it: I am going to walk at least 5/7 days next week. I will report back on my progress, and hopefully I'll be due lots of congratulations!

I am really looking forward to "hanging out" here--seems like a great place! Here's wishing everyone a relaxing weekend!

10-11-2002, 10:13 PM
Hi all,

I didn't do so great eating today. I did fine until I decided to bake a cake that I've had hanging around in the cabinet for awhile. Even that would have been OK if I hadn't let DH talk me into a second piece. Not that he had to work that hard at convincing me. I did get it more veggies today which is good since I forgot to take my prenatal vitamin today. Lauren/RR: Can you take the vitamin at night and then again in the morning? I have a hard time taking it because of the taste so I usually have to take it on an empty stomach with milk. I know, I'm weird.

GG: Sounds like an exciting night you had. Keep it up so we can live vicariously through you!! :) :D Good luck on your job/house hunt.

RR: Sounds like you are having way too much fun there with that list!!

Lauren: We use TED stockings at work for swelling and circulation. I think they would be good for you too. Well, support stockings anyway.

Angie: I'm not actively loosing right now because I am pregnant. I'm just trying to keep from gaining too much with the baby. Good luck with your Mom tomorrow. Eat a huge salad before she comes so you won't be so hungry :).

Rabbit: Good luck with the trip. Hope the eating goes well. If anyone can do it, you can.

Sunshine: Welcome to the group. Don't wait til next week to check in. We can offer support on a daily basis. :D

Hope you guys have a great Saturday!!

10-11-2002, 10:56 PM
Karen- I usually take mine in the AM, when I get to work, because at that point, it's been more than an hour since I had my OJ. (My Dr. said don't take it within an hour of OJ, or other acidy drink.) If I forget, I usually don't take it if it's after 1-2 pm. I don't know if there's any hard and fast rules about that, that's just the time I picked, figuring I shouldn't take them too close together. If the swelling gets worse, I may get some of those TEDS.

Now, for the cake, missy, did you make it like a regular cake, icing and all, or did you just make it in a 9x13 or something? I usually just make it in a 9x13, and eat it plain, or with cool whip...I figure it's slightly better that way!  My weekness while PG seems to be pie. For some reason I was craving peach pie for the longest time! I made one, bought one, and have eaten quite a few peach fruit cakes, you know the Hostess ones that are like a turnover? I know, horrible for me... Now it's pumpkin pie...another downfall. The one in my fridge is store bought, but I plan on getting to the farm market by work and getting a nice milk pumpkin like I did last year and cooking & freezing that for pies. :D

Sunshine Welcome!! :) Just jump right in and join us, post as often as you need/want!! It's great to have you, hope we can offer you some support.

Well, gotta go, Monk's on! We love this show, it's like modern day Columbo! Have a great evening all!

Hello all!!!!
Lauren--I say-get the TEDS or Jobst...I would send U a pair but we have those sexy hospital ones with a hole in the foot at the bottom which would make U nuts!!! The Jobst has more strength..She ordered me the 20-30mmHG ones and they are great..They are $125 a pair but the insurance covers them...I got the sexy white to wear under the uniform!!!!

Karen- I take my vitamin in the morning and my Iron tab with breakfast and my Aspirin at night..I cant have fruit juice or milk anymore with breakfast cuz of the crazy sugars...If it is better at night, just keep taking at night...

Sunshine-Welcome to the post!!!!

Angie- I reached goal through WW in 1999 then met Mr Right and got married..gained 5 lbs or so..Then got preg in Oct 2001 and gained 10 lbs before miscarrying and then lost 5lbs and now I am 30 weeks pg again and have gained 10 more...Sooo, I think I am basically about 20lbs over goal weight(where I was in 1999)I will diet sort of(gonna try to breastfeed) after the baby arrives in Dec..Welcome to the boards!!!!!

Well, I took Tootles to a hockeygame last night..I think the loud music and yelling made her wild..She drove me crazy all the kicking and squirming.I ate supper at 5pm and nothing else and had the sugar from :censored: this morning...I guess if U dont provide the baby sugar, that darn placenta will get it somehow!!!

Have a great day all!!!I am heading to a Breastfeeding class in 2 hrs..DH is sooo excited about it!!!:smug: (NOT!!!!!*L*)
Hello to all I missed!!!!

10-12-2002, 06:55 PM
Hi all. Well, we got the darn school project pretty much whipped today. I only have one page to fix which shouldn't take long. Yippee!! The next thing I gotta do is work on the presentation. I hate giving presentations. Especially on something I'm as shaky on as this Java stuff.

Lauren: The cake was a yellow cake with chocolate icing. My absolute favorite dessert in the whole world. I don't usually keep them in the house because I will make and eat them!! :D DH loves pumpkin pie. I made him fresh ones a couple years ago. He likes the canned stuff just as well. I make them without a crust. Just put the mixed up stuff in a pie plate and bake it. I'll check with my grandmother (I have to call her everytime I make it!!). I think it's a can of pumpkin, the spices, two eggs and a can of eagle brand milk. I use the FF one. I'm pretty sure that's it but I'll check for sure.

DH wants us to watch a movie so I guess I'll go for now. Have a great evening!!
