Default Low-cal proteins/fats?

I know I have a tendency to leave these out, and I'm pretty sure it's a bad idea to leave these things out entirely, but my impulse is just to head straight for the cereal, pasta, and fruit. Does anybody have suggestions for proteins which can fit into a 1200 calorie diet?

Thanks!

Chicken breast and cottage cheese. Both can be flavored with anything.

Fats are never low-cal. A gram of carbs or protein has four calories: a gram of fat has 9 calories. This makes sense, if you think about it: fat is how bodies store energy, and calories are a measure of energy.

I often use the pre-cooked chicken breasts, they're quick and convenient. I also like the low fat string cheese, non fat cottage cheese, or I'll even grab a protein bar (usually 200 calories) if I know I haven't had enough protein that day. Egg whites make a great omelette too. Just some ideas. You'll find you're much fuller on protein than carbs.

Protein can easily be fit into a low cal diet. Actually, I find I would rather have more protein and some good fats than the carbs. The protein foods (meats, and some good fats) will sit with me longer so I don't get hungry.

Breakfast for me (at 8 or 9am) will be 1 egg, slice of cheese (<1oz) and low cal wheat toast. Egg sandwhich for under 300 cals plus a banana (100 cal) and it will keep me from being hungry until lunch and I don't need a mid morning snack. On the weekends I'll eat that about 9:30am and not be hungry until 2pm.

I always make sure I get a good portion of protein with each meal. Chicken, fish, eggs, beef, etc. But there is also tofu, beans, legumes that all offer sources of protein as well.

Don't forget edamame (soybeans). 1/2 cup is about 110 cals and 10g protein.

Thanks guys! I guess I was more asking about ways to get protein without TOO MUCH fat. Yeah, low-calorie fat is kind of ridiculous, lol. It's always something I've struggled with, getting enough protein, but I think the chicken is a good plan.

Deli meats are nice and easy, low fat, low cal and decent protein; they go with any and everything!

I'm trying to work more fish and shrimp into our diet. Tilapia, tuna, and catfish (really, it's good!) are all good low-fat, low-cal protein sources. And I second the recommendation for edamame -- we go through tons of it, as my kids love it too!

Greek yogurt comes in a non fat version and a 4 oz container has about 16 g of protein for about 70 calories (unsweetened).

Yes! Body Fortress, that is the Walmart brand which I use as well, but I don't have the isolate. I have vanilla and it is good. I use it to make homemade protein bars. Well the nutritional value is a bit off from the original post but it's all good. I've read many reviews about the smoke n mirrors and FLUFF over whey and which is better. Many many reviews have raved on this one as working just as well if not better than the ones that cost twice as much.

Speaking of Walmart, I get tilapia filets there, frozen in a 4lb box. They are individually wrapped. Each filet has 98 calories and 21g of protein, don't know the fat right off hand but it is low as well. It's one of my favorite quick n easy meals, defrosts under water in about 10 minutes, grills in less than 10, steamed veggies on the side and it is a 20 minute meal max.
