Default Day 4 on IP and not seeing the rapid loss as I had hoped

I'm a new member and think this site will be a great help!

Someone tell me I shouldn't worry about the daily weigh-in's.....I know this is going to take along time but due to the expense I really need to achieve my goal asap. I really like the protein supp's. The salads are my biggest problem. Do we HAVE to eat lettuce twice a day. I would be very happy to only eat dinner.

I make the soups with veggies and it is delicious and very filling.

Also anyone feel bloated after dinner? I try to get extra water in at night and this might be a bad idea.

Good luck everyone

Don't worry about the daily weigh-ins! I actually stay off the scales at home and wait until my official weigh-in on Monday nights to avoid stressing myself out. It takes a while for your body to go into ketosis, so that would explain why you haven't lost anything yet. It'll happen...be patient! Personally, I don't eat a lot of lettuce. I've been having salads that are 1 cup lettuce, 1 cup spinach and 1 cup cucumbers maybe twice a week. Other than that, I eat 2 cups of assorted raw veggies for lunch and 2 cups of assorted cooked veggies for dinner. As for water, I carry around a 20 oz Rubbermaid bottle with me everywhere and fill it up and drain it at least 5 or 6 times per day. It forces me to go to the bathroom more often and purge...which in turn lowers the bloat factor. Good luck and stay positive!

A pound a day isn't fast enough?

I weighed daily and kept a spreadsheet, but I followed the IP protocol religiously and accepted that my body would adjust to the diet as efficiently as it could. I did not let daily fluctuations (including increases) bother me. If that had been my tendency, I'd probably have been better off not to weigh daily and increase my stress level, since that can interfere with weight loss.

My approach was to get in, get it done, and get out -- that worked quite nicely for me, thank you very much!

i'm terrified of the scale just because I'm one of those ppl who would get discouraged if I stepped on feeling great but the # doesn't prove it. You'll have to remember about water retention, esp before or during mother nature's visits.

my ID coach told me that females are usually 3lbs a week so you're doing crazy good by looking at your S/C/G

Default Thanks for the encouragement and suggestions

Novak, Getting in and getting out is my goal for sure. I have just lost this same 10 lbs and gained it back so many times that I am starting out discouraged.

Sweetstina, Good suggestions. Do you know how long it takes to go into ketosis? I have experienced this on Adkins so I know I'm not there yet. I am drinking the water with no problem I don't even want a Diet Dr. Pepper! Maybe I should leave my Spanks at home?

AngieEH, Thanks for the encouragement. I have heard some really amazing stories of 10 - 18 lbs. I was hoping for a really exciting number on my first weigh in. Maybe I be surprised on Wednesday.

I'm giving it my all and hoping for the best. Thanks ya'll

I hear you, it is really hard to hear those awesome stories. I'm not doing a WI until tom. but it looks like I might be -3 for my first week. Kind of sad, but I don't have a huge amount to lose and I have to keep it in perspective. I just don't want to go to 1lb a week and be limiting myself so much, you know?

But saying that, if it is -3, it is okay. It is going in the right direction, I just feel jealous.

Thumbs up

Hey Xanthia,

I believe I saw in another post from you that you do not have a thyroid? I would be so excited to talk to someone on IP w/no thyroid and compare our progress. So this is your 1st week also?

I had a total thyroidectomy about 5 years ago and a total hysterectomy last year. Before these surgeries I could lose weight and didn't have near the struggle that I do now. Man, at my 52nd birthday, it is almost impossible now! Do you think the thyroid issue is why we are losing slower than the others? My endo doc will not let me use tyroid for an excuse. He just says walk and eat low fat.... I haven't told my endo doc I'm doing IP so I don't know what he will say. My next appointment is July and I was really hoping to be down several pounds.

I have to say, I really like the IP packs and I have not been hungry or had the desire for carbs. That alone is amazing. I just really don't want to eat all the salads. My favorite veggies are the ones high in carbs so I'm thinking how much broccoli, turnips and califlower can I eat to reach my goal? I'm with you I want to see more than a pound a week to be on IP. It just wouldn't be financially reasonable for me but I am willing to try anything to get my weight under control.

Thanks so much for your post. I hope I can get back to this thread and hear from you again.

1SisterChick:

I had my thyroid out in 2005. I lost weight easily as a young adult, then got Hashimoto's thyroiditis (but no supplements), and started having difficulty losing weight. Of course, I got married to an enthusiastic cook, and beer drinker, so that didn't help.

I have gained, and lost weight since having my thyroid out. Up to 313 when on Steroids for sarcoidosis, then lost (while on steroids) to low 240's through CalorieKing counting calories & exercise. Held it for a year, then slowly increased to mid-290's in Sept 09. Lost 10 pounds a month for 2 months, then held that until February 2010. Lost 10 more (to mid 260's) by mid-April, and started IP on May 18th at 264.

I had an initially rapid weight loss - 1st week = 264 to 249.3 (14.7 lbs), 2nd week 249.3-245.7 (3.6 lbs), 3rd week (so far) 245.7-243.6 (2.1 pounds). As you can see, it's slacking off, and that may be more shocking to me, as it was so fast at first. Although I figure I've burned through all the quickly utilized fat (my rear is smaller!), and now am working on the longer-term reserves.

Anyway, long story short, if you want to talk with another person without a thyroid who is on IP, I'd be more than happy to share!

May 18 - 264.0 - calories 676
May 19 - 263.0 - calories 872
May 20 - 258.9 - calories 607
May 21 - 257.5 - calories 786
May 22 - 254.5 - calories 712
May 23 - 254.0 - calories 700
May 24 - 250.2 - calories 795
May 25 - 249.3 - calories 675
May 26 - 248.3 - calories 658
May 27 - 247.0 - calories 668
May 28 - 247.4 - calories 700
May 29 - 246.3 - calories 834
May 30 - 247.5 - calories 629
May 31 - 244.6 - calories 593
June 1 - 245.7 - calories 682
June 2 - 244.5 - calories 706

Don't get discouraged! This protocol REALLY works... as long as you don't spend too much time trying to "game" the system. Just follow the plan, and you will lose. It generally takes 3 days to get into ketosis, so if you lost 4 pounds in the first four days, you're just barely in fat-burning mode and already seeing results. I'm not sure what your expectation is, but I too have lost the same 10-20 pounds over and over on various diets, and was skeptical about this one. But I put my head down and got the job done. I'm still a little shocked by the results. I've got a before and after shot on my public profile, if you want to see how I fared in under four months... I'm in Phase 4 now, and feeling great!

Thank so much for your comments!

Sgorny, I am so impressed with your results and deligence to win this battle! You encourage me! I weighed this morning and was down 3 more lbs! Yeah! I am holding my breath until my weigh in tomorrow. I just know how many times I've gained it right back and we are going to Florida this weekend. Our main attraction-eating! I do love the grill fish so hopefully I will not blow it.

You are doing great considering the med's and sickness my husband is a 16yr kidney transplant patient and I know all too well the effect of steriods any many other meds. It's a battle but we are going to win this one! I would love to stay in touch. We will be Tyroid Sister Chicks : )

1SisterChick, that's going to be so hard! On day 3, my friend invited us over for roasting hotdogs over her fire... turns out that I had to do my workout, same with fiance, so we didn't get there until very late in the night, thinking that would work out for me because then everyone would be done eating and we'd just sit by the fire. Nope, there was one fellow who decided to go for a late seconds and chips being passed around and munched on. I love hotdogs, and I love chips. Heck, I LOVE FOOD!! So that was hard...

Day 4, I went to a picnic at the park. I brought my own salad and drumsticks to cook. Everyone was jealous But I was jealous again, of all the hotdogs and chips, watermelon and strawberries being eaten right infront of me. But I did it!

I'm on Day 7 now so I'm pretty much the same as you. And you're just 1" taller than me, and 1lb above my goal. Although you have more weight to shed, I figure we should be about the same. Don't let me see you slacking off in Florida! This program isn't cheap, and at this rate, you should be a higher loss than me at week1 weigh in. I've got my eye on you

Yep, I had mine out about 4 years ago. It has been super hard to maintain my weight (I went up 30 lbs in 7 weeks after my surgery) and I've been struggling ever since. My levels are in check now (I keep them at a 1 TSH) and I'm just at the high point of the BMI scale. Honestly, I think that is why I'm losing so slow, because I don't have "much" to lose. Since I don't have a thyroid I don't have to avoid thyroid trigger foods, so that's pretty nice.

It is really funny because my endo is a metabolism specialist and always recommends a high protein lower carb diet (he doesn't like people to cut out carbs fully, he likes whole grains). That worked a bit for me but being a vegetarian I felt like I was eating too much processed stuff to get in all the protein. I'm pretty sure he would be okay with this one. Also, my resting metabolism is pretty darn low, so I need even less calories to function than a "regular" person, which is another reason why I'm not burning as much.

I think this diet will help if you have a thyroid problem though, so don't get discouraged!
