Ready to get serious, and unfortunately I think that means exercise!
As of today, I'm exactly 100 pounds from my goal of not being obese in time to buy my bridesmaid dress for my cousin's wedding next may. That means I need to lose an average of 2.1 pounds a week, which leaves hardly any room for screw-ups, though I do think it's possible. I really need to get going, and I think it's time to start exercising. I've lost 22 pounds doing no exercise, but it took 2 and a half months, and I'm feeling really lazy. I know I'm just wasting time by not exercising.
My plan for the next bit is to exercise 30 minutes 4 times a week and then increase it when/if I plateau. I'm eating 1600 calories a day, if that matters. My exercise will consist of the stationary bike or treadmill in my apartment's gym or a Biggest Loser video. Do you all think that's a good start, or is that too little?
I look at your goals and they are close to mine....except I don't have to wear a bridesmaid dress but I do see a mother of the groom in my near future...maybe by 2011 or 2012. I would love to lose 100 pounds. I know this isn't what you asked for but I would love to follow you around to see how you progress. I am currently following the weight watcher plan but I am up and I am down. Do you mind if I follow your progress?
Of course not! I'll follow yours back I'm always interested to see others who have similar goals and their progress. It tends to keep me on track. (And future mother of the groom! How exciting!!)
It looks like an awesome start! Don't be upset if you seem to hold on the weight for a few weeks after starting the exercise. Starting a program can lead to a lot of water retention, but you will definatly still loose the weight and boost your metabolism, and tone your body up if you keep to it!
Dont do the weights on the bike or the treadmill, that is not the place for them. Start with what you have written down.
The biggest loser video will probably introduce you to weights. After you have introduced your body to exercise you can check out weight lifting information online, look at what equipment you have available to you. There are some good resources that can tell you about basic weight lifting.
For the next couple weeks just focus on getting moving. Dont stress about whether this is the "perfect" exercise plan. Carving out the time and making the habit of exercise is the goal of the first couple weeks. Meanwhile peruse this forum and the weight and resistance training forum and get ideas about what questions you want to ask next so you can introduce new things for the next phase.
