It has been a very good day.See you tomorrow. Ann Ashe 09-24-2002, 05:18 AM HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANN. :hat: :gift: survivor 09-24-2002, 11:10 AM Ann, I hope I haven't missed it, but Happy Birthday. Hope you are having a wonderful celebration! At this point in our lives it is so wonderful to celebrate the joy of being alive and enjoying the life God gave us. Hope the neighborhood is rocking for you! Glenda painter5 09-24-2002, 12:43 PM HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANN! Not sure when but hope it is wonderful. flaggies 09-24-2002, 06:06 PM G'day all, I am home!!!! Left Sydney at 5.45am on Monday morning, drove for 12 hours and overnighted at a small country town. I was still feeling quite OK and had thought of carrying on a bit further however when I stopped to get petrol, it really hit me that I was 'stuffed' and would have been foolish to go on. The petrol station attendant also warned me that because of the drought, there were many kangeroos and especially emu's to watch out for. I had a good night sleep and set off the next morning again at 6 am. I never have a cooked breakfast but dh rang and told me that I must have a good breakfast. About 8 I stopped at a road house and ordered scrambled eggs and bacon. I went to sit down and noticed dead flies on the windowsills, ants crawling on the floor etc. etc., too late to cancel breakfast:fr: . Breakfast arrived, huge rashers of bacon with the rind on and the scrambled eggs were swimming in some sort of liquid. I had a few mouths full and just had to leave it. The lady running the place was huge, I am sure she eats all the left overs left by dissatisfied customers:rolleyes: Technology is wonderful and dh, dd and ds all kept in touch by mobile phone whenever I was in range. I arrived in Adelaide early in the afternoon, a beautiful sunny day. It was a bit of an anti-climax as I came to an empty house. DS rang to see if I could meet him at 5pm on the other side of town, to look at a house that he has put an offer on. Did that, (very nice new townhouse) came home again and got some Thai take-away and finally went to bed about 11. I certainly have my work cut out for the next week or so, it is VERY noticable that a fellow has lived in my house on his own :( DS is very tidy, but doesn't believe in dusting, cleaning the bathrooms too often, cooktop etc., I am sure you have the picture. I am very pleased that he received a call last night to say that the offer for his new house has been accepted and he will be moving out within a month. I will then be able to re-organise my house the way I like it and when I return home everything will be where I left it:) The other thing is that ds asked if we could help to contribute to the wedding. I reminded him that we had already given him the equivalent of dd's wedding. I told him that I would speak to dh and see what we can come up with. Kids:mad:   So there you have it, I am home with lots to do before dh arrives home next week. He has a meeting today with his bosses and is going to try and convince them that it would be a good idea for him to work from home till after Christmas. One cannot make too many demands in the present climate, so we will see how it goes. Before I start tackling my kitchen, I must just wish Ann belatedly Happy Birthday , I hope you had a great day. I enjoyed everyone's posts, hope things ease up for you Peggy with all the running around you are doing. Cheers Maria Trudy 09-24-2002, 11:51 PM I just had to go see the Greek Wedding movie after reading the raves from Glenda and I think it was Ann (hope I got that right). The movie was so funny and it reminded me of my Polish grandmother's house way back when. All her brothers and their kids would be in my "baba's" house for all the holidays, they would bring their musical instruments and there would be so much food, and so many people we would eat in shifts. I laughed so hard at the windex and will have to buy some when I go grocery shopping this week..:D Maria so glad you are back home. You really amaze me, driving all that way alone. I don't think I could have done it. Your life is way more exciting than mine ever has been. I will keep my fingers crossed so you and your DH can stay home till after Christmas. You sure do deserve some peaceful time in the home you love. It was a cool rainy day today, and the WW meeting was ok, we had a substitute. Of course the highlight of the day was Tea Time, all 5 of us again. Good food, good friends and lots of laughs, what more can we ask for? ;) Off to bed.. :tired: ... talk to you tomorrow :grouphug: survivor 09-25-2002, 10:26 AM Trudy, I am so glad you enjoyed the Greek Wedding. We go to the show every week and sometimes the choices are just awful, so we have seen that movie three times (with different people) and enjoyed it immensely each time. The funniest part for me was when his parents (white toast) were walking with the bundt cake across the lawn to the "family." Such dread! And just so funny! Maria, what timing! Glad your son's offer was accepted so you can have some time alone in your house. It must be wonderful to be in familiar surroundings. Lily, when is your vacation? My boss is grumpy and tired. Might be a long day. Glenda LilyG 09-25-2002, 11:29 AM Maria: Welcome Home! I think I would of left the resturant. That sounds awful. Sounds like you have lots to do to catch up on. But Im sure you are happy to be in your own home for a change. :) And good that your son found a place to! Trudy: Guess Im gonna have to go see that movie. Everyone seems to like it. Sounds like tea time was fun. But then it always is! Glenda: Vacation starts next Sat. Got tons to do before we head out. I need to buy a light jacket. And also need to buy something for the WW Innovations that is coming up when we get back. Not sure what to buy for it. ALAS... Ann: Glad you had a great BD! This new Journal Entry option looks interesting. Best get busy. flaggies 09-25-2002, 06:22 PM G'day all, Starting to get back into it again. I had a lovely sleep last night and this morning I am trying to get all my linen look white again:rolleyes: I guess it was foolish to have white linen when you know your son is using the bed. It is not too bad, just a light grey:D Son and future d-i-l are moving into their new house on October 12, only another 3 weeks and I can really and truly have the house back to myself:cp: Had another talk to ds about our contribution to the wedding and he now understands where we are coming from. Sunday we are having a 'brainstorming' lunch at my place with girlfriends parents, ds and myself. Thank goodness girlfriend's parents and us think very much the same, no doubt we will work it al out. Lily anything happening with your dh? We got more gloomy news yesterday of more redundancies, hopefully dh will survive it again if not our new car will be very short lived:shrug: The Greek Wedding movie must be a movie for me to watch out for, sounds like my kind of movie. Trudy your teatime sounds like just good old fashion fun, there should be more of it! That is what I am looking forward to, catching up with friends, just getting on the phone and call. Most of our friends are of course our age and still are reluctant to call long distance eventhough the cost has reduced considerably. Back to the washing! Have a great day all, Cheers Maria slavika 09-25-2002, 10:56 PM :grouphug: Hi Everybody Well my grandbabies are bathed, and fast asleep. It's my big kids I'm worried about. They arrived in New Orleans today, early afternoon. DS sent an e-mail saying they arrived safe and sound at the hotel but there was a LOT of "water" around. I checked the weather out for New Orleans and looks like Hurricane Isidore is doing her best to cause massive flooding and high winds, for what looks like all of Louisiana. :( I think they said New Orleans already had a foot and half of rain. If I don't hear again from them shortly I will call them on their cell phone. Maria you sound so happy to be back in your own house with all your own stuff. I'm sure you have tons of things to do, but somehow that's ok, because you're home. :) I managed to lose 1# at WW and we had a great Tea Time. For a change we were all there. It was really nice having everybody all together again. Talk to you all soon. Night all. slavika 09-26-2002, 10:47 AM :cb: Hi Everybody heard from DS and the storm is over in New Orleans, even the rain has stopped and both he and DIL are doing great. GOOd, now I can relax. :) flaggies 09-26-2002, 06:47 PM G'day all, I heard about 'Isidore' on the news and wondered if any of you were effected. Good to hear all is well Slavika and you can now relax! Congratulations another pound well done. DS told me last night that my new scales are out by about 4kg, as in 4kg heavier. DS is a fitness freak and prefers the scales to read heavier :dizzy: Goodness knows how much I have lost/gained or whatever! At the moment that is the furthest thing on my mind. Went to the cancer specialist yesterday and all is well :cp: Today I am messing about doing some wedding invitations for the kids. No-one home here until Sunday when they all come for lunch. Nice to have the place to myself, just wished I knew where everything is :?: Have a great day all Cheers Maria painter5 09-29-2002, 12:15 PM Maria glad that you made it home safe and sound. How does your own bed feel? So happy that your checkup was good. I go in a week. How are the invitations coming? My niece just made hers-they were nice and simple and she had a lavender ribbon at the top. Slavika glad the kids survived the hurricane. I saw how much collects in normal rainstorm when we were there last year - saw all the water on tv. It must have been something when Bourbon Street was closed. Maybe the rain help wash the odors away. We had 2 days of heavy downpours from it. Wasn't My Big Fat Greek Wedding the best? It was so nice to see a movie where you didn't have to think and try to figure out what was going on. Now I want to see Sweet Home Alabama. Hopefully my days of driving my son to therapy have come to an end. He thinks that he is able to drive now=he has been practicing on his driveway. Enjoy the day, Karen L 09-29-2002, 07:34 PM Hi all, I just wanted you all to know that I didn't fall off the edge of the earth. My life has been so busy with work and family. After this week it should slow down for a while. We finally got all the redecorating done , and I am very happy with the results. In the process I've renamed My office/ exercise room the Wreck Room because it is always a wreck!!! I no sooner get it straight when in comes some more WW stuff from the UPS man. He knows my schedule and will only stop when I am here. Good thing other wise he would be running back and forth all the time. We had two weekends of party's. One in St Paul for all my Dad's family to get together one last time before the snow fly's and those who leave for the winter can say bye- bye to all. Then Mother's birthday. She was 76 couldn't let that go by with out a party. We had that here in my little house. It was fun but I was glad when it was all over. Needless to say when I stepped on the scale last Tuesday it laughed at me. Should have known better than to party 2 weekends in a row. So am back to 18-23 points a day until I lose those unwanted pounds. (3). It sounds like all of you are happy and busy. I hope to beable to get back here more often. I miss talking to all of you. See you later Karen flaggies 09-30-2002, 01:06 AM G'day all, Good news, dh is leaving Sydney next Friday and should be home late saturday afternoon. It is just so good to be home but it will be even better when ds moves out and I have the house totally to myself and re-discover all the stuff I have had packed away. I am sleeping incredibly well but it will be better still when dh is back. There was fighting in India this morning and we are both very reluctant to go there, we will just wait and see what will happen. The invitations are coming along, at least they are happy with the design. Nice to 'see' you Karen , good to hear you are happy with the final results of your redecorating. Peggy I bet you are pleased your taxi service may not be required in the very near future. Have a great day/night all Cheers from sunny Adelaide Maria LilyG 09-30-2002, 11:10 AM Slavika: Glad your kids are ok! Im sure you were worried. That Hurricane has caused quite a bit of damage. Congrats on your loss! Karen: Good to see you! Sounds like you have been really busy! Maria: Yippee! DH is coming home! When is DS moving out? Bet it will be nice to have your house to yourself for a change. Nothing new happening with DH yet. Peggy: Havent heard of Sweet Home Alabama. Who is in it? Havent had time to post lately. WOrk is crazy and trying to get ready for our Vacation. We leave Sat. Morning. Cant wait to fianlly relax for a change. Later! Ashe 10-01-2002, 03:15 AM Hello all, Glad to see that everyone is OK. You all seem to be having a fairly busy time of late. Maria so glad you are safely back in Adelaide - those kangaroos and emu's can be a real hassle. Fabulous news about your DS's house, at least you will now be able to be you again and I see that your DH is coming home later this week. Sleep well my friend. Trudy that film The Greek Wedding has not yet been to Melbourne. I will look out for it as it sounds like what I would enjoy. Lily enjoy your vacation. Slavika I hadn't heard about "Isadore", I hope that not too much damage was done and I am glad that your kids are OK. The weather here today is fine, lots of sunshune and warm at last. We had a cold, windy and wet weekend so it is nice to be warm again. Have a great week all. Take care, Jenye/Ashe. :ink: :grouphug: :ink: survivor 10-01-2002, 10:45 AM All, I have lost 15 of the 22 pounds I had gained from the no-smoking habit. I am so happy, but I had one of "those" days on Saturday. I purposely planned my whole day to be filled with all the things I love and proceeded to eat them all. Had hamburger, fries, AND cheese fries, show popcorn, covered in butter and a big Braum's waffle icecream cone with two dips. I can't believe how quickly my clothes got tight again in just one day! Oh well, I am back to being good, and I so enjoyed that day! Maria, glad you are home and feeling "at home" again. Enjoy, enjoy. Trudy, we have seen the Greek wedding movie 3 times and enjoyed each and every time. Glenda Lizziepie 10-01-2002, 12:04 PM Hi everyone. Don't know what happened but once again I have not been getting email notices of new posts. So Finally realized it and started searching and reading. Maria: glad you are home safe and sound, and getting in the swing of things. I'm sure it will be nice when your home is all yours once again. And be sure to see the Greek Wedding. It is so funny and such a joy to see a movie that is just fun. I really liked the way the grooms parents were introduced to the Ouzo. But it was all fun. I know you will be glad to have your DH home. And I hope that all will work for his staying home until after Christmas. Especially if there is unrest in India. Lily: Hope you have a wonderful vacation. Get lots of R & R. I haven't been to a WW in a couple of weeks. This Sat. is my weigh-in again. What do you mean about the new journal option? Have I missed something? Slavika: so glad your kids were okay with Isadore. And now those poor people may have to be dealing with Hurricane Lily. We have been very fortunate here, as nothing has come our way yet. But the season is not over yet either. Poor Cuba and Jamaica got hit by both of them too. Congrats on the loss, hope I can do the same. Glenda: I know what you mean about what one day of indulgence can do to clothes and body. But we have to do it once in a while. Hope your boss got over the grumpies:( Peggy: Must be nice to not be the chauffeur any more. And i'm sure your ds is happy to be independant once again. How is the crafting going? Any big shows in the future? Karen: glad the decorating is done and you are happy. It has to be hard for WW personel when a couple of pounds sneak on. How long do you have to get back to goal? Trudy: Teatime sounds like fun. We do have something similar, as once a month there are 5 of us who get together for lunch. One of the gals moved out of our park, so that is how we keep in touch. Ashe: Are you now going into summer as we approach winter? I can never keep track of the seasons on the other side of the world. Hope that I'll get my notices again. I just get lazy in checking posts. And thank you all for alal the nice Birthday wishes. I had a great day. And I didn't behave in the food department, either.:ink: But once a year? Just have to celebrate somehow. Talk to you later. Ann flaggies 10-01-2002, 06:53 PM G'day all, Another glorious day here in Adelaide:) summer is on its way. I haven't had much a chance to go for a walk yet but hope to stroll down the beach today and have a bit of a paddle in the water; feet only of course, bit too chilly for anything else  Lily enjoy your holiday. There is more gloom and doom news from my dh, we could well find us in the same boat as your dh:( Glenda fantastic effort getting rid of that 'no-smoking' weight gain, good for you. Your splurge sounds like quite a splurge:dizzy: Ann I would love to go and see the Greek wedding movie but I have never even seen it advertised here, no doubt it will get here in time to come. Now stop being lazy ;)and check the posts, I miss you posting. I don't know about in the US but in Australia you cannot rely on mail, it seems e-mail is included in that. Jenye nice to see you post again. DH is leaving Sydney Friday early afternoon (after attending a meeting) and hopes to be home late Saturday.:cb: :cp: I bought a nice leg of lamb yesterday and told him we will have a roast, he loves roast lamb  . I don't get opportunities to have roasts whilst we are away. You certainly did have a cold and wet weekend, it wasn't too bad here in Adelaide and now the weather is just glorious. Some friends are coming for lunch today, I have given up on trying to have the house tidy:mad: , it is almost impossible whilst ds and his fiancee are still living here. Only 10 more days and they will move into their own house. I was there yesterday measuring up for curtains etc., it is a lovely place. We also went to pay a deposit on the place where the reception will be held. It is right on the seafront, has only been open 9 weeks and it is just fantastic. DS wedding is the first one that they have done and are very keen for it to be a success. The rates were very reasonable compared to dd's wedding reception. All I would like now a little more security for dh job wise and we will all be happy! HAve a great day all Cheers Maria Lizziepie 10-01-2002, 10:22 PM Maria: I'd like to come for the Leg of Lamb, but don't want to intrude on your reunion. do you serve mint jelly too. We both like lamb a lot, and there is a Greek restaurant where we go quite often, that serves very good lamb. I surely hope your DH won't have bad news on the job front. Sounds like things are getting under control for the wedding. And I'm sure you are helping all you can to get the new apartment ready quickly so they can move.:D: Talk to you all tomorrow. Ann flaggies 10-02-2002, 12:37 AM Ann I will set an extra place for you:cp: you won't be in truding on the reunion!!1:D Can you bring the mint jelly, I don't normaly make that:dizzy: Cheers Maria LilyG 10-02-2002, 11:20 AM Jenye: Sounds like you have been busy. Good weather to! Its spring time there right? Its starting to get a little cold here. Fall is coming thats for sure! Glenda: Good for you losing the 15! We all have days like that. We wouldnt be human if we didnt. After all it is a lifestyle change and we cant go with out these things for ever. Ann: The Journal option is on this site. You can post what ever you want into it. You can make it private or public. I started to use it but found I dont have the time so I will stick with my palm pilot :) I always have to try new things. Miss geek girl here :) Maria: Sorry to hear your DH might have bad news to. This whole economy is strange. My BIL got laid off just recently also. Cept he had no notice. The company claimed Bankrupcy and just shut the doors on all of them. :( Sounds like a nice place that was picked for the reception. And the first one held to! They will do good so more will come! Best get busy. Later all! survivor 10-02-2002, 04:20 PM Lily - your description of your bil's layoff just sounded awful. For people like us who live from paycheck to paycheck that would just be pretty catastrophic. A few years ago my husband lost 3 jobs in one year because of a bad economy and I still remember the shock. I hope the economy gets going again. Here in OK we have had almost 5% cuts in our budget and it might get worse, so we just keep hoping. This is when retirement looks good, Ann. Glenda slavika 10-02-2002, 06:39 PM :grouphug: Hi Everybody: My week with the grandchildren was going wonderful, then on Friday night DH and I drove them to friends of our son/dil for a sleep over. Later in the evening DH went to son and dil house to pick off the remainder of the tomatoes left in the garden as the nights were getting cooler. That was about 9:30 PM. The next morning, Saturday, I drove over to pick up the newspaper, feed the fish and do something with the tomatoes DH picked the previous evening. I simply could not believe it, but their house had been broken into sometime during the night. The burglars had kicked in the front door. The door was a good heavy duty one too, but I guess it just doesn’t make any difference. The door itself was not broken but they had kicked it so hard that the dead bolt had fallen right out of the door. They stole the big TV, VCR, DVD, video camera, his/her’s golf clubs, all the CD’s, jewelry, bedding and towels to wrap their “loot” in I guess, and of course lots of things that I am not even aware of. To add insult to injury they loaded everything into dil’s van which was in the attached garage and of course stole that too. Neither the van nor the other things have been recovered as of yet. I felt so sorry for our son/dil, but had to call them in New Orleans and break the news to them. DH and I dealt with the police, and waited around for the finger print people and then I spent about a day and half cleaning up the mess the burglars left behind. Fortunately, they did not do any damage to the interior of the house, but threw things out of drawers and things like that. I washed everything I thought they might have touched, even cleaned all the bathrooms with javex, both sinks and toilets in case the touched anything in there. The children lost a few games and the Princess was very upset when she went to bed last night, in her own little bed for the first time since the robbery, that her little purple lava lamp and been stolen. She had not noticed that before. Son and dil returned home late last night. (DH waited at the house for them and of course stayed with the grandchildren), but other then a phone call thanking me for my work in cleaning up their house I have not seen them yet as I was out all day. I just feel so bad for both of them especially my dil who was so happy to be getting this little extra holiday and then starts the holiday off with a hurricane and ends it with her home been broken in to. I’m so angry........  My DH just got home for din din's so I'll talk to you all later. Lizziepie 10-02-2002, 08:57 PM Slavika: I'm so sorry for all the trouble your son and Dilaw have gone through. And how sad for the kids to have lost their special objects. I hope they get caught, that's for sure. It would seem that the police ought to be able to find the van from the liscense plates. I suppose by now all the'loot' has been pawned or passed on to someone who takes stolen goods. What a good Mom to clean up everything. It would have been really hard for them to come back to the whole mess. There has to be such a feeling of violation, when your home is broken into. But, it was good that there was no one home, because there was no chance of any violence. It must have been someone who knew they weren't home, it seems. We'll be waiting to hear how the police make out in their search. Maria: I've got the mint jelly. Now all I need is the plane ticket';) Lily: Guess I'll just stick to my old write everything down journal. How mean to just close the doors, and with no warning, and of course no severance pay. do you think that this is still the results of 9/11? Hi everyone. Talk to you tomorrow. Ann slavika 10-02-2002, 09:27 PM :grouphug: Hi again everybody. Son and family just left, and they all seem to be doing just fine. DIL went to make coffee this morning and discovered that their coffee/cappuccino maker was also stolen. I guess they are going to run into that a few times. :( They brought me a HUGE BOUQUET OF FLOWERS . I think it's probably the biggest and nicest flowers I have ever received. :flow1: Because I SEE that they are doing fine, then I am fine too. Even with all that has been going on, it looks like they did manage to have a nice holiday. Son had lots of work to do, but he still had time to play. DIL kept herself busy by really seeing the sights in New Orleans. She also went on a tour with a bunch of other gals to all these different antique stores/craft stores/ and trash and treasure type places. She said she really enjoyed that tour. :) Good night all. :sheep: :sheep: :sheep: LilyG 10-03-2002, 12:10 AM Slavika: Im so sorry to hear what happened. Its terrible having your things broken into. I do hope they get caught. Glad to know that they are doing well with all they have been thru. At least they did get to enjoy the holiday! Ann: This was Consolidated Freight that close the doors. So no I dont think it had to do with 9/11. They have been having troubles for a while. They actually called some people back to deliver what they have left as no one else will touch it do to liabilities. Just feel for the truckers as they have to get in at least not sure the exact hours but say 60 in 1 month or they dont get medical benefits. Watch them cut it off at 59.5 hours :( Night! Trudy 10-03-2002, 12:48 AM :flow2: Slavika you deserved the flowers and a :grouphug: for all the worry and work you did for your family. You are a good Baba :) It is awful having a break in, having strangers dumping out drawers and standing on you things and taking posessions that mean a lot to you. They will be reaching for a lot of things that just aren't there anymore. Most things can be replaced, but those treasures that have sentimental value hurt the most. Glenda did you see the previews for The Red Dragon...?? Another Hanibal Lector movie is on its way... :yikes: the other one gave me nightmares, I won't be going to see it. We wanted to see One Hour Photo, but the theater we went to had a private screening for a brewrey so we saw the only other one offered that we hadn't seen yet.. The Good Girl with Jennifer Aniston. It was funny, in a weird way. She sure didn't look glamorous in it. Maria I am sure it is good to be home again, and it won't be long before you and your DH have it all to yourself. I have never had lamb. We can buy frozen lamb chops from New Zealand, but it isn't something that you see on any menus here. Lily your holiday is near, are you getting excited yet? Too bad about your BIL losing his job. Nice to see you back Jenye.. wish we were going into summer instead of winter. My DH has been working in the yard, pulling out all the plants, he put the air conditioner to bed for the winter. The days are getting shorter and last night the Northern Lights were out. Night all... flaggies 10-03-2002, 02:20 AM G'day all, What can I add what has not already been said Slavika How disappointing and of course especially for your son and d-i-l. We have a monitored alarm system which is of a lot of comfort to me, eventhough I am told they can overcome that obstacle as well. It really does make you so angry and there is just nothing you can now do. I have been burgled 3 times, many years ago and I have always been super duper cautious, sometimes is just doesn't seem to matter. I think the worst is that you know that strangers have gone through your stuff , it is very unsettling. Lily sorry to hear about your bil, it is just awful all this doom and gloom, everytime you turn on the TV there is yet a further down turn in the economy. For those like dh and myself who have all our money tied up in shares etc. it is very depressing. If there is going to be a war with Iraque I cannot see things changing in a hurry. DH is leaving Sydney tomorrow, I'll be glad when he is home safe and sound. It is a long weekend here and of course lots of cars on the road. Everything is very much in the air on the workfront, lets hope all will be well. Not a very cheery posting. Promise I will do better tomorrow :) Take care all Cheers Maria Ashe 10-03-2002, 06:26 AM Hi all, Slavika What a horrible thing to happen it certainly makes you feel as if your privacy has been invaded. The same thing happened to my daughter and these were her words exactly. At least all can be on an insurance policy but this does not take away the feeling of "being uncomfortable" Trudy Yes we are going into spring but the weather is so changeable at this time of the year you can have 4 seasons in 1 day, but, at least we don't have the humidity and it is beautiful to just sit outside and take in nature. Maria How many more days? then you will have your house back - we have the same trouble with our middle son living here. He has been here since March so we are looking for another house in Central or North Central Victoria - how about that for getting rid of them. Hope your husband arrives home safely and don't worry too much. Well ladies must run now as the dishes from dinner await me.
