It's the weekend! and I'm going to make the most of it! I'm up early to see what I can get accomplished before the troops start moving. Bing and I evaluate at 10 and I will stop by the store on the way home. Kirk is pretty much ready to go and I'm smart enough to realize that the more organized I am, the more I can put on his honey-do list before he travels. I'm starting in the office and will work my way out. Food has been good and I'm grateful for that...one day at a time!
Hopefully, some of you have an agenda that sounds a bit higher on the "fun list"! Stop by and say Hi! before heading out. :cofdate: What's on your weekend list?
Have a great day everyone!
05-15-2010, 06:52 AM
After a hectic week, my weekend list is just stuff I want to do! As soon as it gets a bit brighter and warmer, I'm going to get at some planting. Tomorrow is Church and Jazz's evaluation but today is all mine!
05-15-2010, 07:25 AM
Hi Ruth! Take advantage of "your" day! You can do anthing you want! I'm hoping your weather cooperates
05-15-2010, 07:31 AM
It's going to be warm and sunny here. We're going for breakfast and some grocery shopping, and swinging by the plant nursery on the way back home. I have one more container that I want to get planted today. :)
This afternoon while Jake is trying to figure out how to put his new BBQ grill together, I plan to work in the garden.
Food and exercise has been good for me, too, and I'm delighted with the results I'm seeing.
05-15-2010, 07:46 AM
Coffee was really great just now and I've got my life back in perspective. I made a list of stuff I want to do today and it's all about me! It includes laundry which has been piling up for a couple of weeks. I'm lucky to have so many clothes and over three dozen pair of knickers.
I'm hoping to get the rest of MY plants into the ground today and maybe plant some bean seeds in my raised bed in the field. I also am having an afternoon nap - no matter what. I may park the car out of sight behind the barn so nobody knows I'm home. Call me Hermit!
Cottage and Debbie, I just HAVE to get back on track with food and exercise. I'm not taking good care of this poor old body.
"Be good to yourself.
If you donít take care of your body, where will you live?"

05-15-2010, 07:53 AM
I love that quote, Ruth!
05-15-2010, 07:54 AM
Good morning early birds:)
We have dinner out with friends tonight. And a graduation party tomorrow. I think I will try some jogging intervals on the treadmill today for the first time in over two months and see how my arm holds up. No biking yet... rain expected. And after last summer's nasty fall in the rain I am only riding on dry paths!
Have a great weekend all.
05-15-2010, 07:56 AM
Good morning friends :coffee2: I'm a little slow moving this morning (I'm sure it has nothing to do with that extra glass of wine last night!) but the coffee is finally kicking in.
Debbie - Sounds like lots of good planning. Now to add something fun to your list :) I'm finally getting my bike back today and can't wait to get on it! I wish you were closer, I need a ride buddy :)
Ruth - What a perfect Ruth day! Do you think the soil is warm enough for bean seeds? Maybe I'll get some in too.
Cottage - Congratulations on your progress! Sounds like a lovely day at your house too.
Yesterday was a little frustrating but the work week is over and I'm focusing on my garden, my home and me! Oh yeah, and birds ;) Lots of fun around the corner for us. Tomorrow we are traveling to PI (not phase 1 ;) ) and Tuesday we leave for three days in Maine. I really need some time to decompress and Maine will be perfect for that! For now my garden is a mess and my bike misses me.
ETA - Karen - good news from the Dr. yesterday. I bet PT will really help. My BF had shoulder surgery a couple of years ago and found it took longer than some areas but definitely progressed with PT.
05-15-2010, 08:21 AM
Cyndi, the soil may not be quite warm enough yet but I am going to chance it - seed is cheap. Remember I have a raised bed that's about 2Ĺ' tall. Last year I didn't plant until July 15 when I finally got earth into the thing and I sure want beans earlier than that this year. (By the way, just checked my 2009 log and planted July 14 and had beans Aug 28th! Producing in 6 weeks!)
05-15-2010, 08:26 AM
Good morning all chicks!
Lexiss - Honey Do lists are fabulous. I need to use them more often!! :D
Ruth - good for you!! You always have such a full schedule, I'm glad you finally get some time to yourself. I LOVE naps myself, unfortunately no one else does.
Cottage - Good for results!! I'll have to look at yesterday's thread to see what happened to the countertop...
Karen - hope it goes well on the treadmill today!
Cyndi - although it sounds like you had a rough week, your weekend and most of next week sound fabulous!! I loved visiting Maine, and hope to go back sometime. Enjoy!
me - NO WORK!! It's the weekend off :D. We started working on the garden last night, my DH hauled in two truckloads of dirt (and pretty dirt it is!!). The big plan is to get that planted this weekend.
My DD had troubles recently at daycare, it's heartbreaking to see her crying and sobbing and clinging to me that she didn't want to go to school (she's never been like that). Turns out her best friend isn't her best friend anymore. The teacher finally admitted that wasn't such a bad thing. Turns out, one of the girls she was friends with has been getting into major trouble....including stealing $25 worth of stuff from BB&B. A five year old?!?! (and then the mom blamed it on the teacher, but that's a whole 'nother story). Anyway, one way we tried to help DD cope is that we invited over a family that has one daughter in my DS' class, and another daughter starting kindergarten with mine. So, everyone is anxiously awaiting our family barbeque tonight!
It is a beautiful day...time to start on things!!
05-15-2010, 09:52 AM
I start my exams shortly. I am taking them via web cam at home. It is kinda strange because there is someone watching me. LOL I hope I don't do somehting unconsciously like scratch my butt or pick my nose. LOL Ok I am done being silly. Time to be serious. Have a great day. After my exams we have corbin's crossover from bears to weeblos for cubscouts.
05-15-2010, 10:12 AM
Wow! 7 already! Office organized, kitchen picked up, doggies have been out and I crawled back in bed before my shower to snuggle with Bing. ;) Now everyone is happy, most of all, me!
Linda, glad you have a great day for gardening! Enjoy the nursery and filling containers and :sunny:. Glad to hear your body is responding to all your hard work!
Ruth, PS, love the hide the car strategy! I strongly suggest it...however in Mom's little town they call the Cops if they don't see her! I think taking a day for yourself IS a big step in taking care of your "poor old body". I know watching my Mom, it is very hard to find the balance between "service to the community" and self preservation.
Karen, great news that you're incorporating some new exercise. I have some thoughts I'll get back with you on; perhaps not until Monday after Kirk has departed.
Cyndi, I wish you were closer for bike riding, too. You and Karen! I'm glad you have the opportunity to decompress! I look forward to hearing of your travels!
Twynn, ouch! for DD, but really good to get the real story. It seems that helping her to work on new relationships is the best thing. I hope you all have fun tonight.
Tammie, :goodluck: You'll do fine-hope you checked for boogers.
I just have 90 min before I head out to evaluate. I think barring any unknown strange behavior that Bing and I will pass. My little doll boy! I'll let you know!
05-15-2010, 10:23 AM
Look who is up early! I am! On a weekend too, no doubt!
Its a big day for my momma today. They're doing the ribbon cutting for this beautiful reading garden area at the library she works at. It was mostly her idea and I can tell she's very excited for it so dadda and I are heading out there in a little to go support her and check out the garden. Its really going to be a great space for outdoor concerts and programs, as well as just lounging around.
In other news, my best friend comes home from college today! I feel like a five year old, I am so excited. I miss her loads and we've actually gotten closer since we've gone away. I think we appreciate one another even more now.
Hope you all have WONDERFUl weekends!
05-15-2010, 10:51 AM
Good Morning Chicks:
Thank you Ruth for fixing me up. :) So happy to be back.
I have a busy day today. But I wanted to pop in and say a big HELLO to everyone.
05-15-2010, 01:42 PM
I'm new here, although kind of a past "old hand" at support boards. I'm circling the idea of starting South Beach. You know, eyeing the book, thinking I should, sort of doing it, sort of not. I just moved to a new state and my life is pretty much up in the air so stress eating has been rearing its ugly head. I have been without furniture due to a vanline snafu for over 2 weeks now, sleeping on a pad on the floor. Finally broke down and got an air mattress. (It took me this long because I kept thinking "furniture=soon".)
This looks like a friendly group so I'll wave and watch and jump in from time to time.
South Beach is very, very close to a diet I devised for myself about 10 years ago with very good success (and obviously I left it behind).
05-15-2010, 01:52 PM
Happy weekend, everyone!
I went shopping this morning and got in some steps. I also did my measurements and weighed in. I am so tired of these dribs-and-drabs of loss - how I long for a whoosh! A nice, three pound whoosh would be the best. I wrote a blog post about it, I'm so frustrated. Maybe a strict Phase 1 would be good for a while.
Off to the gym this afternoon, and then dinner with a good friend who's in town tonight. Hopefully wherever she wants to go will have some SBD friendly items on the menu!
05-15-2010, 05:24 PM
Finally back! Bing passed (barely-he was making noises at the neutral dog) but a pass is a pass so we'll take it.
KatehSparrow, fun day! lol early! I'm glad you have a good friend to hang with this summer.
Elle, :wel3fc: South Beach is very much like I was eating before, too. It has really helped me to follow this plan specifically, because I'm learning about the glycemic index of foods. There are more than a few foods I don't eat now that I was pretty regular with before-potatoes, pineapple and white rice to name a few. lol for a sense of humor regarding your leaving the last diet behind.
jennyplain, I find what helps me more than P1 is portion control. Good to see you! How are things with your house?
Ok, way overdue for lunch.
05-15-2010, 09:41 PM
Debbie-- Glad you caught that! lol. Compared to you early risers, I will never be up early! Though, since I stay up until around 2 or 3 in the morning, I often contemplate starting the thread and throwing everyone off! :dizzy:
05-15-2010, 09:57 PM
Katie-you should do it! I'm just getting up, I'd say hi!
05-15-2010, 10:35 PM
Hi chickies! Well tonight I had some serious munchies so after my cottage cheese, I tried the Fake Garlic Bread and that really hit the spot! I did my interval walking and had a very healthy supper (wild salmon, broccoli, asparagus and mushrooms) so hopefully it evens out.
Also went to the west side as their library had the first SB book in stock. I have the supercharged one. I read about half and will read the rest later. I like reading thru the books again and again as I find them motivating and inspirational.
So, made it thru Day 4!! Tomorrow I promised to take the kids to the fun centre so it'll be an interesting afternoon..the kids will want a snack but I will make sure I eat before I go and I can buy a coffee there if I want.
05-16-2010, 03:12 AM
Debbie-- Maybe I'll start it up Monday. :) We'll see.
05-16-2010, 05:17 AM
Seems a little early but good morning :coffee2: There will be lots of coffee today! We are off to Plum Island for a day of birding. It may not be the most responsible choice for the day but it will be the most fun. I'm not going to take time for personals because we want to get on the road (that's why I'm not in my nice cozy bed now!).
Have a great day and see you all tonight :)
05-16-2010, 07:23 AM
Have a good day, Cyndi, and to heck with responsible decisions for a while!
I got lots of garden stuff done yesterday and may be able to work in a bit today between Church and Jazz's 1 PM test. Today is supposed to be warm and sunny so it'll be something on the grill for dinner.
Hope your Sunday is sunny and fun.
05-16-2010, 07:57 AM
I hope Cyndi is well on her way by now to a pleasant and satisfying day of birdwatching and relaxing! The heck with responsibilities, you have to take time to nurture your sole occasionally, too. :)
Ruth, I hope you are enjoying your weekend, and good luck to Jazz this afternoon!
We had a very pleasant day yesterday. I finished planting all the summer annuals and puttered in the garden while Jake put together his new BBQ. Then we went over to Applebee's for a light supper before going to visit Mom & Dad. Then we came home and finished off the evening by sitting on the patio, me with a glass of chilled white Zinfandel, and Jake with his beer, and admired the new grill. It has a unique side-burner with a flat plate for grilling vegetables, and I'm going to use it to grill portobellos today while Jake is grilling his London Broil. :)
We're off to Trader Joe's and a stop at Best Buys to get a new water filter for the fridge, then I expect to be home for the rest of the day, although I have a feeling Andrea will ask me to go shopping with her this afternoon. It'll depend on the weather. It's looking a bit overcast right now, although it's supposed to be sunny.
05-16-2010, 08:06 AM
Cyndi - hope it was a beautiful day for you!
Ruth - Two dog tests on 3FC in one weekend....hope we're two fer two!
Cottage - sit back admiring the grill :D. Hope you enjoy it tonight!
Me - yesterday was lovely....I knew I wanted DD to develop a new friendship, but turns out DH and I get along really nicely with the parents too. Isn't it hard finding friends when you're older??!! I never got to the garden (and finally stopped giving myself a guilt trip for it), but since all the cleaning is done...today is for the garden!! I decided that each child gets to pick a plant, and it is theirs to grow, etc. DD is picking a cherry tomato, I think DS is picking a cucumber. Should be fun!!
Have a great day!
05-16-2010, 08:28 AM
Welcome Elle. You are right - this is a friendly group. A great place to hang out:)
Congrats to Bing! (And his master.)
Twynn - I think all our adult friends came from out kids activities!
Yesterday was a little more exciting than usual here. DH took an elbow to the forehead in basketball and got stitches. I suspect he will have a bit of a shiner today.
I had a NSV on the treadmill yesterday. Jogged 2 minutes, walked 3 minutes for a total of 75. I think this is probably the longest I have jogged at one time in decades! (And at all, for over 2 months since my injury.) I felt it in my knees yesterday and my leg muscles today. Age.
Have a great day everyone.
05-16-2010, 10:16 AM
Hi everyone! I still have the bad cold that kept me home from work, but I'm having quite a weekend anyway! DS had a Disney workshop yesterday, and he wanted me there, so I went to the Magic Kingdom yesterday. We didn't stay long, but it was miserably hot! The band had a great time and it was a very good experience for them.
And I have a diet question. I expected to lose a lot on phase 1, and lost much less than predicted. Now that I've started phase 2, I've lost 4 pounds in one week!
TwynnB--So sorry to hear your daughter is having trouble at daycare. I hope that she finds a new best friend very soon. It's great that you liked your company yesterday. It makes it so much easier when you know and like the parents of your children's friends.
Jennyplain--When I look at your stats, I'm impressed! I hope that you get that woosh you're looking for. Meanwhile remember how much those dribs and drabs add up to in the long run.
Kate--I'm such a newcomer that I don't feel comfortable starting the thread. I wish you would start it so it would already be here when I get up at 5. (Got up at 3 yesterday to get ready for the trip. It's not that far, but we were all a little excited.)
Natalia--Where do I find the fake garlic bread? That sounds really good.
Cyndi--I hope your day birding was fun!
Ruth--I'm checking in later to see how Church and Jazz do on their test. Good luck!
Cottage--Enjoy your new grill! I need to get ours out and learn to use it. DH never seems to have the time lately.
Karen--That's not the kind of excitement that you want, is it? I hope he heals up well.
05-16-2010, 11:15 AM
I slept in till almost 9 today. I usually spend Sundays doing homework, but since I had finals yesterday I have the day off. LOL I do need to get some housework done.
I hope you all have a great relaxing day.
05-16-2010, 11:37 AM
Lexxiss - Things are going well! We had ServPro come out and they dried us out and cleaned it up. Now we're working with a contractor to get an estimate on how much it's going to cost to redo everything. It is a long, slow process, but we're getting there. On the plus side, the fungicide they're using down there smells so much like nasty formaldehyde that I can't eat in the house, lol. It's doing wonders for staying OP!
05-16-2010, 12:05 PM
.... a stop at Best Buys to get a new water filter for the fridge....
Funny you mention that...I woke up at midnight to my side by side flooding the kitchen. I stopped it by pulling out the filter...I hope it's just clogged and it's an easy fix.
I had a morning post all ready to send, then had to reboot the computer. New one on Wednesday :cp: as soon as my Costco bill cycles!
So, personals are gone! Hi everyone! I'm trying to get pesto done before church. Sending before the next computer malfunction!
05-16-2010, 01:16 PM
Hmm, my weight hasn't budged in 3 days- even though I'm eating clean in p1 and far less than before. Sure enough, this morning, Aunt Flo came to visit..
Hmm I wonder does your cycle completely have to be over to stop the stall? Or the 2nd or 3rd day of AF it releases the extra sodium or water??!? It'd be kinda nice to see a small drop, even .5 of a lb.
FCMonroe- it's super easy. I got it from the SBD recipe section of he site. Basically just take 2 pcs of low fat string cheese, put them in a frying pan on med heat with a tsp of olive oil. Make sure the bottoms are lubed. LOL Then heat until the top of the cheese stick is melted. Don't touch them until it is!!
If they start to brown on the edge before the top is done, turn down the heat. Once the top is melted, sprinkle on a bit of granulated garlic powder. Slide out of the pan onto a plate, and let it set for a few minutes to harden.
If you like cheese and garlic bread, I think you'll like them. And they're very satisfying from the fat in them, good for late night munchies.
Twynn- That sounds like a fabulous idea having the kids pick out their own veg. I am super lazy but I think ds might get a kick out of it. Im sure some varieties woulod be ok for "container planting" on the deck? My mom does tomatoes that way, I wonder if any other veg can be done that way as well?
Anything that kind of takes care of itself?
Still going to take the kids to the fun centre ater lunch, just finishing up my coffee. Already had lots of protein and some spaghtti squash for lunch, as well as 2 psyllium pills as I have been getting the munchies too much lately..
so hopefully that will do me for awhile.
If not, I'll get a coffee and chew some sf gum while there. A girl with a plan! LOL
Have a great day, girls!
05-16-2010, 03:15 PM
Jenny, I can sympathize with you on your basement cleanup. We went through all that when a pipe broke in the wall and flooded our finished basement with 3" of water. What a mess! We had a long battle with the insurance company, but just recently settled with them. We decided not to redo the basement again, though. We just painted and put area rugs down so the grandkids will still have a nice place to play and call their own. I hope your process goes faster and smoother than ours did!
I just finished putting a fresh coat of paint on my little bistro table and chairs that I have on the patio, and they look brand new. Jake is having a good ol' time removing our kitchen countertops in prep for the new ones to be installed on Friday. My kitchen is going to be in chaos all week, but I just keep telling myself it will be worth it in the end.
05-16-2010, 07:07 PM
It was an absolutely perfect day by anyone's standards but spectacular by birder standards. Warblers all over the place and a life bird and a half for us (1 we have never seen, 1 I've only seen once at a long distance). We spent the day walking everywhere and are exhausted and happy. Hope you all had at least a little of that today :) Now for dinner and wine then an early bed (we were on the road at 5:30).
05-16-2010, 07:27 PM
Lovely day and more to come. Jazz passed his test with flying colours and charmed everyone including the Great Dane. Too funny! Moel, my neighbour, just installed the pump at the well behind the barn so I am all set to get my veggies planted! Maybe Wednesday - this is a busy week.
Let's all have a good night's sleep and wake up full of P & V for tomorrow!
