Weight Loss Support - Calling all Voluptuous ladies. Let's lose INCHES

Are you tired of being complemented on your curves...when you know you are overweight. Do you get remarks from skinny friends "You are all boobs and butt!" Does it seem that weight slowly creeps off you...while it flies off others. When you finally do lose weight--are you still heavier than your counterparts who lost weight too and are the same size as you!
I know all of the above applies to me. I am sick of being all boobs and butt. I am sick of losing and gaining WEIGHT.

i am only going to focus on INCHES this time.

who else wants to take this approach to shrinking in size? Come join me. WE need to take measurements.

I have taken measurements of every part of my body i think is capable of losing inches. All you need is a tape measurer that is flexible...like a sewing one...and some determination. I don't care the method you use. Just don't be unhealthy about it. You can excercise, journal, do shakes, cut out sweets, do the atkins...I don't care.

Just post your measurements every week. same places. same time of day. You are less bloated in the morning.

i also get very motivated by pictures...because you can SEE your clothes fitting better. or that bathing suit starts getting loose...so feel free to show lots of pictures too! I am going to put in a link of my before picture as soon as I get it done.

you can post your weight too, but don't get hung up on it. Really focus on inches. Also, make sure you use certain landmarks when you take your inches like "above hip bones" "at the navel" or "around the upperarm under the armpits" and make sure you take measurements from the same place each time.

So who wants to lose INCHES and not WEIGHT!!!

starting weight: 187.8 5/4/10
measurements:

waist at bend: 33 inches
chest at ribs: 34 inches
upper arm: 13.5 inches
inner thigh: 27 inches
widest part of abdomen (pooch): 40 inches
thighs: 40.5 inches
calves: 15 inches
neck: 14 inches
around butt and hips: 44 inches.

I want to lose inches (and weight too, but that's besides the point)

I can post my measurements tomorrow, because as you stated, your less bloated in the morning. And besides that wednesday is already my picture day of the week so it will work out well to have a recording of measurements also.

My plan of action is this...
45 minutes cardio everyday
weight training/yoga/plyometrics 5 days a week (not all on one day.. lol.. one of these per day thank you, im not insane)
1200-1400 calorie diet focusing on high protein, low carbohydrate, clean eating.

Hopefully this will work for me.

yay, alright aware! good plan. If you haven't done cardio or pilates, remember to ease into it! i like your type of diet plan too.

Mine is focusing on cleansing my internal organs first, then listening to my body and eating wholesome healthy foods. Next, I am going to add cardio and weights.

I am actually at the end of a week long cleanse, just one more day for me to go.

As far as the exercise, ive actually been doing really well with it for the past week. I've already been sticking to this routine. I need to work out some kinks in my scheduling, but otherwise i find the workout routine very maintainable.

My big problem is the eating. I dont have a problem with the foods I'm eating, i have a problem with the calories i'm eating. Which more often than not seems to fall quite short of what i should be doing. I have alot of problems with food, mostly because i see it as the enemy, i used to have an eating disorder, and so i will always have disordered eating. I have a hard time allowing myself the calories i need without alot of guilt. Right now ive eaten a bowl of cereal today, and i have hunger pains and in the back of my head a little voice says "good" Unfortunately my metabolism is shot because of this and wont let go of anything i put into my body until i get my eating under control in healthy way.

Hopefully with less emphasis on the scale, i wont feel so guilty for everything i put in my mouth and ill finally be able to see some results.

I think this thread is great!

My only concern is that I take measurements in the same place every time. Any tips?

jendiet
05-05-2010, 08:10 AM
yes, seabiscuit. always use some kind of landmark. say if you are wearing panties. make sure you measure at the top of the same panties every time. or if you use your legs...write down the landmarks "at widest point" or "above freckle". finding the widest point is usually best, because you know that the whole is getting smaller if that area is.

luci, welcome.

i agree jennie, that is a good grid, do you mind if some copy it? i have a similar grid in excel. I love to make graphs to represent losses. so grids make it easy. also for comparison's sake. So i truly recommend a grid.

aware, i totally agree with cleansing. it is so much easier to deal with a dietary change or lifestyle change when we clean out excess junk. tone our digestive system and help our body rid of excess hormones (lots in junk food and especially fast food).

AS we begin to lose fat, our body gets overwhelmed with hormones being released from our fat cells, so it is good to cleanse and tone in between losses as well.

Okay, here are my measurements. (in inches)

Week 1
neck - 15
Bicep (left)- 12
Forearm (left)- 9.5
Chest ( at nips) -38
Waist (at narrowest point)- 28
Hips- 40
Butt- 42.5
Thigh (at largest point)- 27
Calf (at largest point)- 15

Weight - 159 (the scale is really beginning to upset me.. it wont stay down, it keeps fluctuating between 158 and 160 and it wont budge in a lower direction)

I both take measurements & look at scale. I have noticed that I shrink considerably for every 3 pounds lost. I think comparing measurements is interesting because I have such a thick waist for my size.

Most recent measurements:

Weight 137

Chest 35
Waist 34
Abdomen 36.25
Hip 37.25
Right Thigh 23
Calf 13.5
Arm 12.5

I measure everything at the largest part, except for my chest which I measure above the breast. As you can see, I am a classic apple shape.

welcome gee. you are already in. Just take the measurements of your body at the widest points (this is easiest).

Then, post them...and every week we will be remeasuring. It is very important to measure at the same spot every time so use landmarks!

Ok, I was skeptical about weekly measuring b/c I couldn't imagine I'd lose any inches in a week. I was wrong...

Today, I weigh 134 and down 3 pounds from a week ago.

May 1 measurements:

Neck (I've never measured it before- was curious: 12 inches
Chest: 34 (Last week: 35)
Waist: 32 (Last week: 34)
Abdomen: 36 1/4 (Last week 36 1/4)
Hip: 37 (Last week: 37 1/4)
Thigh: 22.5 (Last week: 23)
Calf: 13.5 (Last week: same)
Arm: 12 1/4 (Last week: 12.5)

It's weird to see that my belly is larger than my chest and only slightly smaller than my hips. I really do hold most of my weight in my abdominal area.

I'm very pleased with the results and don't mind the smaller chest size at all. And I am not that upset about my abdomen not shrinking- I'm pleased that I lost 2 inches in my waist.

How is everyone else doing this week?

jendiet
05-07-2010, 11:54 PM
gee, water fasting is very hard! i have done that before for prayer reasons. A liquid fast is much easier...the master cleanse is tough as well. I only recommend a complete liquid diet of something nutritious...a favorite shake..with some low sodium v8 to compliment for beginners. only for 1 day as well. eat regularly the next. Weekends are good for longer cleansing periods.

water fasting does have amazing benefits for the body ONLY in the short term. The body has the ability to completely focus on repairing and cleaning while the digestive system is almost completely inactive.

i read the information on the master cleanse very thoroughly. I think if you can tolerate it it would be good for you. I would say to check with your doctor, but i don't know of any doctor that would recommend it.

DO NOT buy anything prepackaged if you are going to do it...that would be silly. this website has all the information and recipes you need.

i did a simlar cleanse every other day with water, apple cider vinegar, and honey as my staple during the cleanse.

http://themastercleanse.org/

I have always had the most enjoyable and rapid weight loss incorporating cleansing into my method. i tried to avoid it so many times, but really it is the easiest way to get your body back in sync and start craving healthy foods again.

after looking at my stats.. my boobies have deflated.

luci, don't feel bad, mine are going to deflate alot before I get to the size i want...but i don't mind being smaller all over..make sure you do some boobie exercises to tighten up the muscles underneath them and give them a rounder more firm appearance.

arm pulses are really good. so are cross arm flyes. Where you hold the weights out front crossed and then open up your arms and then cross them back in front.

arm pulses are easiest and denise austin swears by them. hold your hands out front and straight arms and act like you are going to clap but don't.

I'm going to update my inches tomorrow. I did lose down to 184.4 so that was a nice treat this morning.

ok, i don't get "print screen". Good job on the inches! do you measure your chest under your bbs or over? I measure mine under...so I can see the actual girth of my chest.

I have a lot more inches to lose than you ladies but I'd love to join in!! I am restarting today and here are my (hopefully shrinking soon) stats:

6/30/10
Neck: 15
Full Chest: 46
Rib Cage:39.5
Natural Waist: 39.5
Hips at Belly: 51
Hips at Butt: 50
Thigh: 29.5

I plan on starting to walk to work in the mornings and start running again. I am not doing a diet but just watching what i put in my mouth.

Measure day will be every other Monday!

I measure straight across my chest, at nips.

I print screen it (press the print screen button on the key board "PrtSc") then I go into paint and I paste it there and from there I crop/resize what I want.

ok, i didn't know that function on the keyboard. Thanks so much. That will make it easier. Well, i will probably get discouraged at watching my bb's shrink too if I measured straight across them. I had to go to a smaller band bra...cuz i was in between the other one...this ones a bit tight...but I hate being loose.

welcome peaches and Essa. Yeah you got to start somewhere Essa. Peaches, it is nice to have something to fall back on when the scale doesn't paint a pretty picture.

woohoo! let's whittle those waist lines...and smooth the saddle bags. I see alot less back roll, i don't know how to take that into account except through pics. I think I will have to take some to motivate me too.

I've done my monthly weigh-in/measurements. Since May 1, I've lost 12 pounds, and:

1 inch from my waist
4 inches from my hips
1 inch from my bust (nothing from band)
2 inches from arms
1 inch from thigh

Here are my new measurements for today. Hooray for shrinking bust, hips and waist! It's so motivating to see this, especially since I gained about 6 lbs when I started working out!

date neck r bicep l bicep bust rib cage waist hips r thigh l thigh
5/31/2010 12 1/2 11 1/2 11 1/2 39 7/16 36 42 7/8 23 23 3/4
6/12/2010 11 3/4 11 1/4 11 1/4 39 3/4 34 42 23 23 1/2
7/4/2010 11 3/4 11 11 38 1/4 31.5 33 3/4 41 1/4 23 23 1/4

Wow, Synger, that many inches from your hips!? That is awesome! Taking measurements is great!

i need to post my measurements, i might do it after TOM, or tomorrow--if i'm not too bloated. Oh, my Get into those shirts, girl--pics show how much i have shrank. I haven't lost alot of weight though--maybe 5 lbs since June, but those Shorts do fit alot better. The pics are from June to July--almost one month.

I tried taking my measurements last week, right before TOM, and I grew in almost every measurement. I decided to stop because I was so irritated! I'm still a little swollen from TOM, so I'm hoping I shrunk even more. I'm not even going to attempt to measure myself around TOM again! I would wait

Thanks, pink, it probably would just pee me off. I know my clothes are fitting better. So yeah, i'll wait.

I'm shopping for 10's now. I don't think they'll quite fit yet, but most of my 12;s are getting way too loose :carrot:
