Yeah, that sounds like a tough choice. Hard to come up with a nickname to shorten Erica, but there are a lot for Virginia. Of course that never stopped someone from tossing one out of the blue, like 'America'. Virginia has Ginny, Virge, Ginger, Gigi, Gin, Vee. I can't think of any others.

I was gonna name my first Virginia after my mom. But, even in her day, my mom had to put up with so much "Virgin" grief that she just called herself Ginny. That's what we went with. She had to put up with a little "1-800-91-JENNY" stuff for a bit, but it ended pretty quickly.

Speaking of Mothers. Last night on TV a show came on about childrens's beauty contests. I don't usually watch that kind of stuff but didn't change the channel right away, All these little girls, some barely more than toddlers, have teased hair, mascars, blush, pancake make up to the point .that they no longer look like cute little girls, what I found interesting is most of the moms were seriously overweight, had no makeup, hair badly in need of a haircut or at least washed and combed. I find it kind of revolting. Let your little girs be little girls. They grow up too soon as it is. And Mom go get a haircut and maybe lose a few pounds. You will be healthier and your little girl will be happy just being a little girl.

At Duke University, there were four sophomores taking Organic Chemistry. They were doing so well on all the quizzes, midterms and labs, etc., that each had an "A" so far for the semester.

These four friends were so confident that the weekend before finals, they decided to go up to the University of Virginia and party with some friends there. They had a great time, but after all the hearty partying, they slept all day Sunday and didn't make it back to Duke until early Monday morning.

Rather than taking the final then, they decided to find their professor after the final and explain to him why they missed it. They explained that they had gone to UVA for the weekend with the plan to come back in time to study, but, unfortunately, they had a flat tire on the way back, didn't have a spare, and couldn't get help for a long time. As a result, they missed the final.

The professor thought it over and then agreed they could make up the final the following day. The guys were elated and relieved. They studied that night and went in the next day at the time the professor had told them. He placed them in separate rooms and handed each of them a test booklet, and told them to begin.

They looked at the first problem, worth five points. It was something simple about free radical formation. "Cool," they thought at the same time, each one in his separate room, "this is going to be easy." Each finished the problem and then turned the page.

On the second page was written: (For 95 points): Which tire?

This is the true story of George Phillips of Meridian, Mississippi, who was going to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the shed. George opened the door to go turn off the light but saw there were people in the shed in the process of stealing things.

He immediately phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?" and George said no and explained the situation. Then they explained that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be there when available.

George said, "Okay," hung up, counted to 30, and phoned the police again.

"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people in my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I've just shot them all."

Then he hung up. Within five minutes three squad cars, an Armed Response unit, and an ambulance showed up. Of course, the police caught the burglars red-handed.

One of the policemen said to George: "I thought you said that you'd shot them!"

George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"

A new pastor was visiting the homes of his parishioners.

At one house it seemed obvious that someone was at home, but no answer came to his repeated knocks at the door. Therefore, he took out a card and wrote "Revelation 3:20" on the back of it and stuck it in the door.

When the offering was processed the following Sunday, he found that his card had been returned. Added to it was this cryptic message, Genesis 3:10."

Reaching for his Bible to check out the citation, he broke up in gales of laughter.

Revelation 3:20 begins "Behold, I stand at the door and knock." Genesis 3:10 reads, "I heard your voice in the garden and I was afraid, for I was naked."

I've been called serious. Usually, when I'm training at a job that could get someone killed if I mess up. I get, "Comon, girl, smile. Operating equipment is fun." Well, ya, once you know what you're doing and you don't have your trainers life in your hands as he's hanging out the window. Plus, I don't tend to smile like some grinning idiot when I'm concentrating on something important. :(

Bah!This is hard to believe. I, too, wanted to watch the final launch of Atlantis, but was going to be on a flight to Miami. Then the pilot comes on with, "That's Cape Kennedy off to your left" and sure enough, using my binoculars, I could see ol' Atlantis on pad. "It launches in three minutes" he continued. Then he banked left so we'd have a clearer view and I got to see the launch from 30,000 feet. Truly a mind boggler. I can attest that it does rise fast, and that it does continue past 30,000 feet.

For decades experts have said that the New
Orleans Saints were so bad at playing football that **** would freeze
over if the Saints ever won The Super Bowl. On Sunday, February 7,
2010, the Saints won the Super Bowl. That same Sunday, Washington D.C.
was paralyzed under several feet of snow and the Government was shut

Do you think this indicates the actual location of ****?

A man walks into a restaurant with a full-grown ostrich behind him.

The waitress asks them for their orders.

The man says, 'A hamburger, fries and a coke,' and turns to the ostrich, 'What's yours?'

'I'll have the same,' says the ostrich.

A short time later the waitress returns with the order 'That will be $9.40 please,' and the man reaches into his pocket and pulls out the exact change for payment.

The next day, the man and the ostrich come again and the man says, 'A hamburger, fries and a coke.'

The ostrich says, 'I'll have the same.'

Again the man reaches into his pocket and pays with exact change.

This becomes routine until the two enter again. 'The usual?' asks the waitress.

'No, this is Friday so I will have a steak, baked potato and a salad,' says the man.

'Same,' says the ostrich.

Shortly the waitress brings the order and says, 'That will be $32.62.'

Once again the man pulls the exact change out of his pocket and places it on the table.

The waitress cannot hold back her curiosity any longer. 'Excuse me, sir. How do you manage to always come up with the exact change in your pocket every time?

'Well,' says the man, 'several years ago I was cleaning the attic I found an old lamp. When I rubbed it, a Genie appeared and offered me two wishes. My first wish was that if I ever had to pay for anything, I would just put my hand in my pocket and the right amount of money would always be there.'

'That's brilliant!' says the waitress. 'Most people would ask for a million dollars or something, but you'll always be as rich as you want for as long as you live!'

'That's right. Whether it's a gallon of milk or a Rolls Royce, the exact money is always there,' says the man..

The waitress asks, 'What's with the ostrich?'

The man sighs... pauses and answers, 'My second wish was for a chick with long legs and who agrees with everything I say.'

It started out innocently enough. I began to think at parties now and then to loosen up. Inevitably though, one thought led to another, and soon I was more than just a social thinker.

I began to think alone - "to relax," I told myself - but I knew it wasn't true. Thinking became more and more important to me, and finally I was thinking all the time.

I began to think on the job. I knew that thinking and employment don't mix, but I couldn't stop myself. I began to avoid friends at lunchtime so I could read writings of Plato and Aristotle. I would return to the office dizzied and confused, asking, "What is it exactly we are doing here?"

Things weren't going so great at home either. One evening I had turned off the TV and asked my wife about the meaning of life. She spent that night at her mother's.

I soon had a reputation as a heavy thinker. One day the boss called me in. He said, "Skippy, I like you, and it hurts me to say this, but your thinking has become a real problem. If you don't stop thinking on the job, you'll have to find another job." This gave me a lot to think about.

I came home early after my conversation with the boss. "Honey, " I confessed, "I've been thinking..." "I know you've been thinking," she said, "and I want a divorce!" "But Honey, surely it's not that serious." "It is serious," she said, lower lip aquiver. "You think as much as college professors, and college professors don't make any money, so if you keep on thinking we won't have any money!" "That's a faulty syllogism," I said impatiently, and she began to cry. I'd had enough. "I'm going to the library," I snarled as I stomped out the door.

I headed for the library, in the mood for Clinton's latest book "Family Morals in America". Listening to a PBS station on the radio, I roared into the parking lot and ran up to the big glass doors... they didn't open. The library was closed. Later, I realized that a Higher Power was looking out for me that night. As I sank to the ground clawing at the unfeeling glass, whimpering for Zarathustra, a poster caught my eye. "Friend, is heavy thinking ruining your life?" it asked. You probably recognize that line. It comes from the standard Thinker's Anonymous poster.

Which is why I am what I am today: a recovering thinker. I never miss a TA meeting. At each meeting we watch a non-educational video; last week it was "Jerry Spinger" talking about the song "I'm bad" by Michael Jacks. Then we share experiences about how we avoided thinking since the last meeting. Life just seemed .. more bland .. without purpose or meaning, somehow, as soon as I stopped thinking, and avoided thoughts about the meaning of life and my future. I still have my job, and things are a lot better at home and the office. Now I stare for hours at the T.V. and receive my daily dose of brainwashing instead of contemplating the mysteries of life.

Have you joined Thinker's Anonymous yet?

I named my oldest Ginny after my mom. So, they gave her crap about 1800-91-Jenny. She was too late for the 867-5309 crap. Don't matter the name, they'll catch heck anyways.

Just wanted to see if you were all paying attention ;)

here's my story ~

I was down in the family room watching the end of the Dodger and Cubs game. Angie was up in the living room watching a dvr of Glee, the doorbell rang and she answers....odd for someone coming that time of night around here.

I hear "Babe call 911 for me please"...in a calm voice....I grab the phone and hustle upstairs where I see an elderly lady leaning against my screen door, supporting herself with the door knob. We couldn't open the door to let her in because she was "glued" to the door.

I tell Angie to call as I ran downstairs and out the garage around and back up the front door stairs...I was so worried the lady was going to let go of the door and fall backwards down my concrete stairs.

I hold her so she wouldn't fall...she was soaked in sweat! While Angie talked to 911 I asked her questions....she was very confused :?: but also knew she was lost ~ her first name ~ I asked her if she started walking at daylight and she said no, when the moon came out....which I had mentioned to Angie about an hour before how cool it looked last night ~ She said she was holding onto a Ford truck tailgate for a long time...probably mine...our driveway is well lit up with the lights on both sides of the garage.

We finally got her into the entry and in a chair. She said she shouldn't have been walking, but she does it every night...at this time she is calmer...knows she lives off our main street but not her street....knows that there are people living in her house but not who...She then tells me she thinks she had a stroke that morning because she lost sight in one eye....

About this time the Calvary started coming...about 5 minutes from the doorbell ring....3 cop cars, 2 firetrucks and an ambulance.

They said her people were looking for her ~ they had been to her house that morning because her husband said she was confused ~ she had been lost before.....

At this time her husband shows up...Angie says the police started talking to him...."We told you this morning not to let her walk alone anymore"...he just said..."She said she was only going to walk the block".....

This is the 3rd time I have found an elderly person lost in our neighborhood. We live right next to a retirement development. I came across one lady a couple of years ago while the dogs and I were out...she was 2 miles lost!

As she was being taken away she just kept telling her husband and police..."Oh, they are such nice people..."

Missed the end of the game..........;)

Gary, at one time several years ago I worked at a nursing home in Colorado. I came in to work one morning with all kinds of new "rules and regulations" one of the ladies had left walking out the front door and walked 8 blocks on a very busy street to a 7-11 store and was at the counter wanting to buy a 6 pack of beer! The employee there knew the nursing home was near by and since this lady had no money, and no one drove her he called the police and they came and took her back to the home. It was scary but so funny that she went straight to buy some beer!!

Glad that she was OK though and you and Angie are wonderful people to take her in and take care of her until the help showed up. Bless you both!
