This support thread is open to all who are following any of the Dr. Ian Smith diets: Fat Smash, Extreme Fat Smash and the 4 Day diet. We are here to offer support and encouragement to each other. And if we can... answer some questions. Feel free to post accomplishments and failures. Feel free to post daily menu's, exercise, and weekly weigh-ins. And most importantly... LET'S SMASH SOME FAT!!

Good Morning fellow chickies!
I'm starting the 4 Day detox for the 3rd time. I'm supper motivated this month because it's my birthday month and I'll be going back home at the end of the month to visit friends and family.

You go, Taurie!
I'm on day 6 of my slightly modified detox(think I will just stay on this until goal, with a few allowances). Down to 132.5 this morning - yay!

8675309 - How did your fist day go?
Tonyia - Hope you're feeling better. Good for you for sticking with the exercise.
Natamars - Congrats on your new low! :carrot: I always find I lose the most on detox.
Today was the first day of detox. I'm a little concerned because my calorie count is really low today, under 700. I'm not hungry at all. On the good side, I haven't craved any of the foods that kept me off plan last month. I'll have to make sure I eat more tomorrow.
How many calories do you all average on detox phase?
natamars
05-01-2010, 05:23 PM
Taurie, I'm usually between 800 and 1000, which I think is low, but it's working. I don't have real hunger, just cravings for things like chocolate. I eat 4-5 times a day which helps a lot. If I were really hungry I'd have some veggies or a banana or something.
The good part for me when I went off plan and was probably eating more like 1500-1800 was that I only put back on 2 lbs. or so, so I'm not worried I'll gain like crazy when I go to maintenance.

I went off plan a bit today and yesterday because it's been a crazy weekend. I think I am gonna do a modified detox again though. I am def. losing but it's happening very slowly.
Oh and I wanted to add that eating ON plan and during detox my calories were very low too and I was eating all the time, and not hungry either. People were actually fussing at me for my low calories but what can you do??

I posted this to the other forum, so I am re-posting it in May.
I am finally back from being on the road. I am tired and I didn’t have time to grocery shop today. I will get myself situated tomorrow. I went down 6 pounds, but was expecting a bit more especially seeing how hard I tried. However, I have to stay grounded. I think being on the road impacted me more than I thought it would. I do want to try a bit on the Extreme, but I am not sure what the first phase is. Can anyone share? Does anyone else think it is a good idea to break it up like that? If you eat like white rice or something would you start over with the two days of detox. Or is that for when you really blow it like with a banana split or something?
BTW, thanks for posting the links to the recipes. I think a few of those would really help. It is hard to determine when people make recipes and say they are in accordance to phase 1 or 2 which book they are talking about. It is my understanding after reading all the post that Fat Smash has an updated version that includes additional food allowances.

Today was supposed to be day one, I packed everything (meals and snacks) and ended up getting not only called in for work early but staying late...in the hustle of getting out of the door I FORGOT MY NICELY PACKED BAG. fml.
Today was filled with salad and subway :P Tomorrow I'm at home and have no excuses (in fact, I left my day packed from today just in case work calls).
However, I did weigh in this morning...and died. I have GAIN officially seven pounds since January. *facepalm*

8675309, you could have done a lot worse than salad and subway! good luck today!
yokusuka, first of all, 6 lbs. is awesome! on fs, you eliminate a lot of foods in detox - meat, fish, cheese, bread, sugar, etc. in each phase you can add some foods back, like ww pasta, a small amount of cheese, whole grain bread, etc. i did detox and started the phases, then went off track a bit because of some of what i added in - for example, bread seems to be a huge trigger me. and when i did efs the 100-calorie snacks (i made some bad choices) did me in.
right now i am in shock because since i re-started on monday i am down 4 lbs.

WOW Natamars four pounds is great! Did you re-start with the detox for two days and then moved into phase 2? Is the foods the same in EFS for phase 1? Is the main difference in 4 day the fact that you have snacks? I want to go full out for the month of May. I made a promise not to drink until June regardless of which phase I am in (big step for me). The bread and pasta is tough too! But, I did well on the 9 day. I was worried about not working out more. I want to do more than 30 minutes, but I am not sure I can do that with so few calories.
If you don't mind me asking, what did you eat since re-starting and how much did you work out? I know each of our bodies are different, but I want to do more. I am also going to stick to the obvious and use the same scale. I was out of town on day 10 so I am not sure what the real weight would have been. This weekend I slacked off too. I had white rice (sushi) and breaded vegetarian chicken nuggets. I was pleased with myself considering the things going on around me, but not FS acceptable. hmm...this is tough!

I started back on detox on Monday. I am really thinking of staying on it until I hit goal, with occasional meals off when I eat out(which is only once or twice a month). I'm also allowing myself coffee and wine on the weekends.
My calories for last week were between 775-1020 per day.
I usually go to the gym 5X/week. Once or twice I do an hour body sculpting class, once a Zumba! class, and the other days 30-50 minutes on the elliptical. I'm trying to get in 30 minutes of cardio on my sculpting days too. My job is sedentary and I live in an area where you have to drive everywhere, so I don't get much activity outside of the gym.
Play with it and see what works for you. I've learned that none of the foods on detox is a trigger for me. I tried brown rice pasta when I got tired of brown rice, but I overate it, whereas with brown rice I'm satisfied with 1/2 a cup. Nuts, peanut butter, dried fruits, and sugar are a problem too. I will eat them again as I think they're fine in moderation, but for now I'm avoiding them.
Keep posting - I defintely find I stick to plan better when I'm on here daily!

Yeah, I guess it's alright to have low calories for a short amount of time. I ended up dropping 4 lbs since yesterday. But, I'm sure it was water and stuff. It's crazy not feeling hunger. So weird.
Yokosuka - did you say on another thread you were traveling in Japan? Sorry if I'm confusing you with someone else. If so, you're so lucky.
I've noticed foods on detox don't trigger cravings for anything. lol. Probably why I'm eating so little. I doubt my calories even hit 700 again. It's really bad, but I've been so engrossed with work today. Oh well, it's just for a couple more days anyway.

Hello Everyone!
So I made it 3/4th of a day, then the car broke down and I was stuck at a gas station near work, so supper was off plan. UNTIL that point I was feeling a little off due to the lack of pop. But overall it wasn't too bad. Loving all the fresh!

Hi everyone, today was my first day of my second round of fat smash, I went through stages 1-3 and a weekend of 4 and started over. Had great results the first time around, hoping to do well this time too. Has anyone else started over?
grneyedmustang
05-04-2010, 10:36 AM
I'm starting over. My birthday was this past week...so I'm not going to discuss what went wrong...but it was bad.
I noticed someone mentioned "trigger foods". Mine are nuts. I don't know why I go overboard with the nuts, but it's definitely a problem food for me. I've stopped buying them since I can't seem to "tame the nut monster".
I notice though that I'm not exceptionally hungry, but I do crave foods (like chocolate) from time to time. I don't even miss the cheese as much as I thought i would!
Exercise wise I'm doing okay. I am trying to "become a runner" so I am trying to up my "running miles" to ten per week. I am also running a race July 4, so I don't want my time to be insanely bad! I need to hit the weights more than I have. Hopefully next week (I'm going out of town for mother's day to see my mommy :) ) I can get in a regular weight training schedule.

life4ever - hope everything is alright now. I keep on starting and restarting detox. Let me know when you back on and I'll be happy to detox with you.
8675309 - sorry about your car, but good for you for not letting it completely derail your goals.
3xmommy - I'm constantly starting over and repeating certain phases of the 4 day. I'm sure you'll get great results again.
grneyedmustang - Happy be-lated birthday! :bday2you:
I've been doing all nighters on my thesis and it's definitely affecting my eating habits.
Yesterday I didn't eat ALL day, barely had water until 7pm when I went to a bday party. I wasn't even hungry... probably from the stress of my thesis, but I ate chips... lots of them. They are definitely a trigger food for me especially at social gatherings. I also had a cheeseburger, and a chicken drumstick but only drank water and skipped cake. Calorie wise I think I was okay, but I don't like not being able to control myself when I'm in the same room with chips!

Day 10 of my modified detox. Scale is up .8 for some reason - think it is digestive(sorry tmi). I am still weighing in every day. Really tempted to cheat. Stressful day with a death in my husband's family - someone estranged but still tough to deal with. I already have a planned meal off for Mother's Day for Saturday lunch where I fully intend to eat some pasta, bread, and cake.
grneyedmustang
05-05-2010, 12:44 PM
Taurie - thanks for the belated birthday wishes, it is appreciated! And good luck with your thesis!
Natamars - hang in there...how do you handle when you need to cheat?
I am researching this because life keeps getting in the way of my dieting. On SB I would usually eat SBD approved foods, but this diet is a little more strict so I'm having issues conforming when life gets in the way. For example, tonight I'm taking my employees out to a Mexican restaurant for Cinco De Mayo. NOTHING on the menu is fat smash friendly. NOTHING. I was thinking about a salad but they all look like they are potentially high in calories. I may just go for the fajitas and not eat the tortillas.
On a more positive note, I haven't stepped on the scale but my clothes are feeling different, a little more loose than I'm used to. Hopefully my exercise has kept me from gaining; I've tried to eat healthy during the times I wasn't "celebrating" something or other!

05-05-2010, 05:32 PM
I ate 2 girl scout thin mints and a chocolate granola bar instead of my planned oatmeal and soy milk. Same calories..nutrition, not so much.
grneyedmustang, I very rarely go out to eat, so when I do, I enjoy myself. If I'm being really good I skip the bread(or tortillas) and stick to one glass of wine rather than starting with a mixed drink. I think your strategy of not eating the tortillas is good - if you eat slowly, you will probably find you fill up quickly so you still won't eat too many calories.
Have fun!

thanks for the responses and support, I'm 3 days into my second round (went through the first 3 phases and started over) really hoping for good results again. Oh and I'm crazy close to the one ninety never mark, haven't seen it in 8 years so I'm ready

Ugh so I have been crazy busy working out and working in the yard the past few days, staying on plan BUT not really eating enough. So here I am at 11:46 at night and my stomach is growling. :( I half way want to grab something small just to hold me..I dunno what I should do.
I have the rule no eating for 1.5 hours before bed....anyone else have problems like this? If so what do you do?

05-06-2010, 09:04 AM
tonyia, i try not to eat at night too, partly for weight loss(i know they say it doesn't matter what time you eat), but mostly because i am tired and don't make the best choices at night. i usually only save 100-200 calories for night - lately i'm just having a glass of juice. when i say night, i mean after i come home from work, which is at 5:30. i go upstairs with my son to read stories between 8:30 and 9, and stay up there to be away from the kitchen. kind of sad, but it's working.
screwed up last night. decided to have some creamed spinach(frozen, only 90 calories a serving, and very decadent-tasting) and brown rice to try to satisfy something. but then after that i ate 2 bowls of light ice cream with chocolate syrup. very gross. estimating my calories for yesterday at 1530, but about half of them were junk. did not weigh in this morning. moving on. sitting here with oatmeal with soy milk and a banana. zumba! tonight.
have a great day, everyone.

I ended up having a cheese stick @ 60 calories but my total calories including that cheese stick was 667 for the day. I REALLY have to figure out HOW to get my calories up!

Good morning all! Went out with the coworkers and ordered fajitas. I did have too many chips though and 2 margaritas. I went to the gym beforehand - but I have to tell myself "I cannot out exercise bad eating habits!" so I am trying to "be good today".
3xmommy, I've been dieting off and on my entire life. This last time I started in 2008. I began with South Beach, where I lost the first 51 pounds, but since the holidays I regained ten and have struggling to start losing again, which is why I decided to try something new. It's been working for the most part, but I've been getting in my own way!
Taurie
05-06-2010, 01:49 PM
Tonyia - sometimes when it's to late to eat I just have a glass of water w/ fiber. Sounds gross, but it does the trick.
Thanks for wishing me luck! I sent it off for binding today, so it's a HUGE weight off my shoulders.
I noticed this diet has changed my taste buds. I ate off Plan on purpose by having pasta and garlic bread because I knew it would make me pass out and I desperately needed a nap (too many all-nighters this week). I learned that I don't like creamy pastas or cheesy garlic bread any more. I much prefer fresh fruit and veg... in my opinion nothing tastes better! :carrot:

Weighed in @ 130.5this morning - a loss of 2.9 for the week. Yay!!
This weekend will be challenging because of Mother's Day plans. My goals:
Only one off-plan meal - tomorrow's lunch out. Leftovers can be eaten by someone else in the house. Don't eat until I feel stuffed.
Lots of walking tomorrow.
Back to the gym and usual meals on Sunday.
Asked dh not to do anyhting food-related Sunday. Some extra sleep and a cup of coffee in bed will do just fine!

Natamars[B] - congrats on the 3 lbs lost. That's fantastic! :carrot:
I hope you enjoyed mother's day.
[B]life4ever - glad to hear your dad is back on the mend. Good news. Hopefully those headaches are gone by now. Have you restarted yet?
I've had a crazy last few weeks. My diet has been very sporadic; too many festivities this month. I'm still struggling to lose the weight I gained in Italy :( I'm going back home in a couple weeks and want to be back to at least 118 lbs. On a plus note, I'm finally done with school! YAY me!! :carrot:

Still trying to follow FS Detox on most days. Been a rough few weeks with lots of family issues, but have been doing OK. My weight is hovering right around 130 - this seems to be the new set point for me. The nice thing is that most of my old clothes fit and I'm getting nice compliments on the weight loss. I bought Jillian's 30DS DVD and am going to add that to my exercise program along with cardio and sculpting classes at the gym. My plan for next week is to get exercise in every day for a minimum of 30 minutes.
I'm still trying to get down to the 120-125 range. Big motivator is that I am not buying any new clothes until I get there.
Looks like some of you will be back on here Monday - see you then!

I am on week 3 and it has been ok, my issue is getting home at night and having to figure something out, so far just did basics but now I am getting tired of that. I am trying to stick to the first two week schedule, very little meat and it is working. Have gone down 10lbs in 3 weeks. Also building up exercise so I am sure that helps. Need to search for some good ways to fix beans!!

I am. Just got back from holiday a few days ago. Jet lag was really bad, but I'm ready to start again!
I did a 5K run on Saturday and my knee hurt Sunday and Monday, so today I took it easy and went for a 45 minute bike ride. My diet hasn't been horrible, but not that great either. I definitely need to get back on the food plan.
