Update: Thank you so much for all of your responses it really helped me.. looks like I can narrow it down to be a size 16 I would have to be around 200... great 29 pounds to go! I'm looking forward to wearing 16's havent wore that size in 4 years!

I was a comfortable size 16 at 195, and I'm 5' 6" too. But I think I tend to wear bigger sizes than most people my weight b/c of my ghetto booty :)

I can wear size 16 now but they are really baggy. I am 5'2 and weigh 173 pounds. A better fit for me is 14/15.

I'm currently wearing a size 18 and I'm 202-203. I have pretty large hips so I've always been bigger in jean sizes. Oh and I'm 5'2".

Height is a major variable here so you might want to include that in your question. ;)

Otherwise, I can say that I was a size 16 when I was 215 lbs. I'm also 5'11" so that plays a big part.

I'm 5'3" and I was a size 18 at 203 last time down. (Of course, then life happened and I gained back 60 pounds... but that's a different story.)

I was wearing 16s when I was at around 165-170 at 5'5.5". I carried a lot of my weight in my tummy, so often had to size up higher than some others.

I was in size 16 for a long time. During that time, my weight ranged from ~185 to 192. A few months ago, around 185 pounds, I was able to fit in size 14.

I was in an 18 at 190-195...I'm 5' 3" and tend to carry the majority of my weight in my stomach. Right now I'm at 229 and I can fit in an XL in tops sometimes...which is annoying!

I'm bottom heavy and when I say 16, I mean my bottoms which are the biggest part of me. I am 5'6" but wear a 16 petite (current weight 212). When I get closer to 200, I wear a size 14. Also, I can wear 14 short because petite pants are actually a size down, if that makes sense. So I'd say if you are asking about a true 16, I was probably around 230.

Yup! I agree. Height is a huge factor. I am 5'9" and at 215, I am fitting into 16's comfortably. At 230, MOST of my 16's were way too tight...

I will have to get down to 200 b/f I can wear 14's.
170 - 180 = 12 and I don't think I will EVER get back to 10's.

I'm between an 18 and a 20 (depends on brand, cut, etc). I'm 228ish and 5-4. I have big hips and lower stomach (gotta love the post three pregnancy belly!), or I'd probably be in a solid 18, leaning to 16.

First- I love that we all have different body types and heights!! Love who you are!! =)

I'm 6'1ish and I presently weigh around 242-3 and I'm wearing 16 and 18s!! So man oh man... I'm trying to figure out what MY size will be when I arrive at around 200... it will probably be 14? I have no clue but I'm sure happy that I am on my way to get there in 2010!!

Keep workin' out and eatin' healthy everybody!

I'm a size 16 right now, at 5'3" and 209lbs. Even at my highest, I was a 16 (ok, a tight 16, so maybe an 18 would've been more comfy :^:).

It depends on the brand, I am 180ish and wear 16 in some stuff and 14 in some stuff. Its weird because my goal size WAS 12 but now that I fit into a 14 I feel like I could be a 10 or 8 - - - - -CRAZY!!!!!

I wore a size 16 when I was in the 200 to 190 range. I'm 5'7"

In 1983 I was the same height, (a senior in High School) and I totally remember buying a pair of Calvin klein jeans in a size 16. I had to SEARCH all the department stores looking for a pair that BIG, and I weighed 165 pounds. WOW, have times changed! ;)

I'm top heavy so I'm comfortably wearing misses 18/XL pants at ~225 lbs. I've got one stray pair of 16s that fits but I know this particular brand/pair run very large, I would expect to be in more standard sizes 16s probably at about 210.

But I am still in plus size 2X for tops, and I'm not sure I'll be in even 1X by 210 lbs, and definitely not in misses sizes for tops for a while after that, even XLs.

I'm 5'7. I was in an 18 at my highest weight of 230lbs. I'm not sure how much I weighed exactly when I first started fitting into my 16s, but it was somewhere in the 190/180 range. I'm just getting into 14s now at 177ish. BUT I would probably be in a 12 right now if my thighs weren't so unproportionately big (ALL jeans gap really bad in the waist).

Right now I am 215 and a sort of loose size 16. When I was my starting weight 238 I was a snug size 16.

Considering my weight I probably should be a bigger pant size, but I am fairly tall and have an hourglass figure with distributed fat.

This is confusing because I think the sizing is different with me. Most people are posting US sizes, right? Anyway, I wore a UK size 20 (a US 16) on top and a size 22 (US 18) on the bottom when I weighed about 250lb (my top weight.)

I'm about 5ft 8 inches.

It depends on your height as well-- I am very tall-- nearly 6-2. I wear an 18 now and am 240. I know that at 230 I would wear and 18 too. I think at 200-175 I would wear a 16. After that, it is relative. 175 is well within normal. It is what I weighed at 20 when people considered me "skinny." Going to 150 I might be able to wear a 14 but I would be bony. I don't want the hassle.

In other words, I started at 280, but would just be moving from a 20 to a 16. A very small woman who was 5 feet even might be 280 and moving from a 20 to a size 4 which is a lot longer trip.

I think the only real golden lining is that my bones/guts weigh more.

Lol, Lori-- I remember those painted on Calvin Klein's-- I was a 16 at 160 in those days.

Now, at 206 I am a 14W or misses 18. I have a feeling I can fit into some 16s now, but I haven't been shopping in a while.

I am all over the place with size. Right now I am a good solid 16 petite and they are getting loose. The brand/style makes a big difference for me, always has. I have one pair of 16 Women's Petite jeans and they are getting very loose. They have a low waist on them. Another pair of 16W capri jeans are about to fall off of me. Then I have a pair of Lee Riders size 18 capris that still fit slightly snug, but are wearable without being uncomfortable. I have found Lees run smaller, at least on me. My belly seems to be what keeps me from wearing smaller sizes. Hope that isn't an issue much longer.

I am 5'3" and currently weigh 168. I have had to have something that doesn't cut me at the waist or push my fat up into my boob area when I sit down. It is just too uncomfortable.

Love the jeans with a bit of stretch to them.

Yeah, sizing is ridiculous. I was a 24 now I'm a 20, yet some things I can get in an 18 then some are 22, it varies. I'm trying not to freak out about the size, it seems most people have this problem with sizing. I was also a size 16 when I was about 240ish lbs, but I'm tall and pretty much evenly proportioned. Try not to let the sizing issue mess with you, at least they're getting loose regardless!!

I never properly fit in size 18's. The whole "W" issue (16W, 18, 18W) really confused the heck out of me and none of those sizes ever fit me right. They were made for much taller people than I! That said, I've come down from 20.

I am 5'4":
16's fit rather nicely right around 195
14's are now fitting at 188 (And I can squeeze into a 12, but it's not pretty. ;) )

nelie
04-30-2010, 04:23 PM
women's sizing is cut much fuller, meaning everything is a bit longer and roomier. Having said that, a 16W is not the same as a 16 misses. A 16w is more equivalent to a size 18 or 20 in misses.

It's definitely not the height, it's the way they are cut.

Even at my biggest, I could not wear plus sized bottoms, they are cut for women who are much more of a pear shape than I am, with bigger rears and hips. Although I'm thick through the waist, my hips and butt are relatively small and plus sized pants look awful on me (skirts too actually). I had to find forgiving misses XLs (knits with elastic waists) - they'd be snug in the waist even with elastic but that's what fit me ok everywhere else.

On the other hand, I am bigger on top and still wearing plus sized tops and expect to be for a while - I'll definitely be in 14 bottoms, maybe even 12s before I expect to be able to wear misses sizes in tops.

That's funny. As I outgrew misses sizes, the plus sizes didn't fit right until i started losing my pear shape and putting on relatively more weight in the middle.

you might laugh at this. But i have an hour glass figure too..and most of my weight is down around my POOCH area. So if i wear low riders I wear a 14-16, but if i wear regular jeans/slacks. those are size 12s! i am currently 183.4 lbs. i have to wear a L-XL top for the girls though...my hips are 37 1/2 inches...so the best pants that fit me comfortably are the Juniors low riders pants. I got alot of junk in my trunk too though.

I've been stuck in a size 16 for awhile now. I am 5'7" and weigh 206lbs right now and I can still fit into them but they are falling off. I'm not sure that I'm ready for a 14 yet, so I'm waiting another two weeks before I try on a smaller size.

Don't forget that everyone makes clothes differently, I can easily fit into a size 14 from Ann Taylor's with room to spare, but I can't squeeze into a size 16 Lucky Jeans if my life depended on it. [well that was before, IDK about now]

I can't WAIT to be out of this size and back to a size 14, I can't even remember when the last time I wore a size 14 was. LOL, I carry most of my fat around my middle so I have a pretty big belly too, if that helps any.
