Default NSV of the Kiddo Kind

Yesterday on the walk home from school with Kiddo she told me;

"My classmates keep asking why I have an apple or other fruit everyday at snacktime and if I was on a diet because I do not eat the chips and candies as that they do. I told them NO, it isn't a diet! It is just the right way to eat!"

Kiddo has been losing weight right along with me over the past seven months. I think I floated the rest of the walk home, so happy she picked up the 'it's not a diet, it's the way of life' vibe. Just had to share

That is really awesome.... you're lucky she got it without the whole rebellious thing a lot of kids go through when their parents change their diet (I went through that!).

that's great!!

I try to make sure my son (age 5, soon to be 6) understands about healthy foods vs. treat foods. I'm not going to lie and say he doesn't like his treats, but he seems to understand that we eat mostly the healthy stuff and then can have a little bit of the rest. I figure that since he's a VERY active, VERY slim child, the best pattern for him is something like a 90/10 pattern where it's fine if 10% of his calories come from treats as long as he's gotten in his nutritional needs in the other 90%.

Although it is kind of weird for me that he's getting to the point where he needs to eat as many calories a day as me, even more since I'm in weight loss mode! lol!

YEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

That is one thing that I thank GOD I never did to my daughter that is now 16.....even thought I obviously had weight issues, I never 'self-hated' around her, like I never said, I'm so fat or I am on this diet, or that diet - I didn't want her to even ever worry about it. She's a skinny thing, but is now learning more about not eating junk and GETS IT at a much younger age that I did. THANKFULLY!

I do hope the good eating habits will last her a lifetime. I grew up in a eat-everything-on-your-plate and eat whatever you're given sorta house. Unfortunately most of it came from cans or boxes of the just add water variety. We both look forward to our shopping for new-to-us veggies to experiment with and 'cute fish to eat' at the market then preparing it together.

This morning had a funny moment. Getting ready to take her to school I had just finished slathering on moisturizer and she came in with a very serious expression on... Mom, I need to talk to you. I figured she was working up courage to ask for x y or z. I turned to her to listen. Mom, I think you need to see a doctor. Brows furrowed together completely puzzled I asked.. Why? She replies while pointing towards my neck, You have some weird bones starting to grow and what if they are more arms or something! Utterly speechless I turned to the mirror. By golly, I can see my clavicle bones starting to define. That of course made me break into the giggles which made her mad.. jeez a mom with extra arms and laughing like a nut. Ha! Yes, I did explain those were not extra arms lol. Made my day I tell ya.

I bet that was a very proud moment for you!!!

My daughter is only 2, so I'm trying really hard to start her off right. We eat lots of fruits and veggies, and she always eats what we're having for dinner. No "special" stuff for her (like my parents always did for me...)
