This one from my dad..."Now that you've lost all this weight, you look like Queen Latifah"...

I believe what he was trying to say was that he now considers me the kind of woman who, in spite of being FAT, somehow also manages to look moderately attractive.

He stumbled around this concept for a while, also adding that now "lots of women in Hollywood nowadays are fat but they still look okay..."

As it happens, I think Queen Latifah is gorgeous, and I'd love to look like her, but given that I'm a blonde blue eyed middle-aged white lady with an apple shape it doesn't seem like the FIRST comparison that would spring to mind.

Unless you're my dad.

That is too funny, I'd love to know how some people can manage to give backhanded compliments.
There is a lady that goes to the same gym as me. She is NOT a slim lady, but I give her credit for going to the gym even though I haven't seen her break a sweat. Anyway, a few months after I started going to the gym she told me that I was doing well and asked how much I'd lost. She then went onto say, I used to be big you know, not as big as you, but big....

Oh My! Thanks Dad! :)

Loving me - Yikes! I think that's when I'd put in the old.." I used to be ugly, not as ugly as you... but... :D

That's my sarcastic comment for the day. Please return to regularly scheduled programmming.

 Sometimes you just have to shake your head and get a laugh out of it.

His heart may have been in the right place, but obviously his head was up...well...nevermind. ROFLMAO! That was too funny. Dad is priceless! Thanks for the giggle.

LOL! Great thread!

04-08-2010, 05:31 PM
That made me laugh out loud! It was most likely meant as a positive thing. Queen Latifah is a beautiful woman.

It still cracks me up to think of it.

04-08-2010, 05:50 PM
Oh My! I do think sometimes Dad's just don't know WHAT to say........and the moment it comes out of their mouth its like, uh, errrr.......

And the other...not as big as you! Man, evidentaly they don't THINK before they speak.

 You guys are funny...or other people are anyway. :dizzy: Oh, the things people say! And the things I'm sure I've said myself. I'm no stranger to foot-in-mouth-disease.

04-08-2010, 06:05 PM
Haha, that made me giggle.
-Loving me? I'd go with Wizzie's comment. Or maybe, eyebrows raised "You USED to be big?!?" Then smile and walk away... But I'm a smidge bitter and resentful :)

04-08-2010, 07:31 PM
That's funny. It sounds like he really was trying to mean well.

Oh and Queen Latifah IS beautiful.

04-08-2010, 08:44 PM
my all time favorite: "oh, you used to be so cute.... what happened?!"

seriously did you really just say that to me? yes, yes you did...

i'd be freaking thrilled to look like Queen Latifah.

04-09-2010, 05:42 AM

LM-- man that comment takes the cake! I love "used to be big?"....

But really-- I look a lot more like Susan Boyle, than Queen Latifah...

But, it's nice imagining that I look like the Queen...
