Mini-Goals - I RAN on the treadmill!!!
04-03-2010, 07:15 PM
I ran on the treadmill today instead of just working out on the eliptical. This is a first for me! I have always been embarrased or it has hurt to run due to being so large. Today I decided the gym wasn't too crowded so I would give running a try. I DID IT AND THE TREADMILL DID NOT CRY OR COLLAPSE!!! Some may find me ridiculous, but I know others may feel the same way as I have in the past. I didn't run for long, but it felt good to be able to run and not just power walk! To actually get air feels good :woops:

Seriously...screw anyone who gives you any negativity! You are at the gym and that's all that counts. remember...it's mind over matter...YOU don't mind and THEY don't matter!!!!! Keep up the good work!
the feeling of running on the treadmill is sooo awesome.. I would buy one if I could :) I love nature and all but the fact that I can trust the track to be smooth, leveled, straight, and the air to be the right temperature.. lets me focus on the running, the beautiful feeling of running free from restrictions.. aaah :)
GREAT JOB !!!!!!!! KEEP AT IT!

as someone who knows what an accomplishment this is, (since that's all I do is run on the treadmill) I will give you a  and a wonderfully huge CONGRATS!!

Congrats! Enjoy your accomplishment!

woo hoo!!! i have been having major treadmill issues - i'm a better outside runner than i am indoor runner. are you finding the treadmill easier than being outside?
04-08-2010, 09:56 PM
Great Job!! :carrot:

I haven't really tried running outside, but I usually work out on the elliptical because it is lower impact. Perhaps this summer I will give outside a try because I would much rather be outside then in the gym. Although, I am pretty cautious about working out because I don't want to injure myself. I can't take the setback...it would crush me emotionally...so I have been keeping the running to a minimum until I get more comfortable with my body :)

Congratulations! I can barely walk on the darn thing. I am always afraid someone is going to ask me if I have it turned on !

Using any of the machines in the gym can be intimidating. You should be proud of yourself. I hate trying something new at the gym, but find it's best to just take a deep breath and jump in.

bekah: awesome job!
bride to be: i love running outside too. the treadmill makes my knees hurt, and for some reason the gravel trails dont. i still have to wear knee braces though.

Congrats on this achievement! I ran for the first time on a treadmill in August and slowly worked my way up to running a mile without stopping, then 2, then 3 - now I can run 5 miles without stopping and I am running in my first 5k race on Saturday! Great job and keep up the great work - just keep at it and little by little increase distance or speed and you will amaze yourself at what you can do.
04-14-2010, 02:42 PM
Great job, Bekah!!! I can't wait 'til I get to that point!!!

Thanks Everyone! and to give somewhat of an update....Two days ago I ran a mile without stopping and under 5 minutes!! I can't believe it!! It feels good, but I was pretty sore the next day:exercise: Tomorrow I am going to try to do it again!

Congrats, i am the same as you, i was ashamed to run because it was crowded and because of my big booty but your story has also inspired me to run :D
04-15-2010, 05:26 AM
I know exactly how you felt! I recently plucked up the courage to run, too.
Doesn't it feel great?! I'm so happy for you :D
04-17-2010, 07:08 AM
Good for you! That's a great achievement. I keep telling myself to run on the treadmill but I only ever power walk, as I'm far too paranoid that someone will be watching me! Keep up the great work :)
04-18-2010, 09:16 PM
That is what I feared, but I don't care anymore!! (well at least not too much-if someone was really gawking I might have to give them a piece of my mind:tape: ) Do it for yourself! That is what I have decided to do!! It can be difficult, but you can do it!!;)
04-18-2010, 10:17 PM
Congrats! You have every right to be proud of yourself!
05-29-2010, 09:08 AM
I thought I might post an update! I have still been running, but taking it slow to watch the injury thing....but I bought some running shoes and it felt great to not have the sales person look at me like..."you run?!?" Anyone else ever felt this way when you have gone to buy any exercise equipment or attire?

That's so exciting! :D I'm proud of you!
I am by no means a runner... I've never understood the appeal, but today I started to wonder if maybe I just haven't gone about it the right way... Thinking about trying to do the C25K program! Not sure yet, but I think it would be a really neat thing to try!
05-30-2010, 05:57 PM
Oh, that's just great! Don't worry about only jogging for a little while...as long as you're doing it, that's amazing! Pretty soon you'll be able to jog longer and longer...I know that's what I'm working towards. Congrats...and keep it up! :)
06-02-2010, 12:41 AM
Lol. Your post cracked me up. This is so me. I STILL haven't tried it at the gym...I'm afraid other will complain about the huge pounding noise I will no doubt make! Thanks for this post, I just might try it now that I know I'm not alone. :)
06-02-2010, 09:39 AM
Great job! I know how you feel, though. I have always been afraid to try jogging or running at the gym beucase of what other people will think. But yesterday I actually made a committment to myself that I am going to go for it. WHO CARES what they think!!!
Reading your post made me feel even better about it. Thanks girl! :D
06-02-2010, 02:31 PM
Congrats on your success! I have been doing C25K, this is about my 4th time to start it and I have never actually made it to a 5K. I run outside, treadmills frusturate me because I have to knowingly change my pace and that is a downer for me especially when I have another mile to run :( . As a former college athlete, I guess I am lucky I have never had a fear of gyms or the people in them. I figure everyone is in there for the same purpose, to be healthy and look nice.
Congrats on conquering your gym treadmill fear.
06-04-2010, 01:12 PM
Congratulations!!! I am doing the c25k training right now and I can't even imagine running 5 minutes yet! Great job!
