20-Somethings - How long did it take you to reach your goal?

My goal is to lose a total of 50 lbs. I'm almost half way there and have been going at it send the very end of December. When I first started I really wanted to be "done" by summer but now that I've gotten this far, I don't really care how long it takes me as long as I'm making progress consistently. So if I keep losing at the rate I have been I should be to goal by the end of June but really I'm expecting it to be more July/August...

Your goal by June doesn't sound unreasonable, but the fact that you're ok if it takes until July/Aug is great. It means you won't do something silly to try and just finish it off.

As for your question, I started eating better in July/August last year and hit my original goal of 161 on 2/20 this year. At that point I wasn't happy with my weight and lowered my goal to 151, which I haven't hit just yet. :)

It sounds like you're doing great so far. And you're probably seeing pretty dramatic differences in your appearance already, and will again in another 10 pounds and another.

I have lost about a pound a week pretty steadily since I started calorie counting Sept 21. (I was at about 178 when I started with the calorie counting.) Which makes about 26 or 27 weeks I think. My LoseIt app predicts about 3 weeks to go but I think I'm going to slowly start increasing the calories, because I'm starting to have trouble finding the energy to do my cardio as long as I used to.

I live alone and have been able to avoid tempting social situations (except for with a few non-sabotager friends) by claiming I'm "really busy at work", which is actually true. I don't know if I would have been able to do it so steadily otherwise.

I've lost over 75 lbs and it has taken me 14 months. The first 50 lbs were easy but the last 25 lbs have come off incredibly slow. Just be forewarned that the less you have to lose, the longer it may take to come off. Not always, but often that is the case from what I have read on here. Good luck!

I would say your goal is very much achievable.

I'm not quite at goal yet, but I've been losing off and on for almost 3 years. I have had months were I will completely go off plan, but still maintain my weight just no loss for that month. I had months where I was steady loosing 2lbs a week and now that I'm pushing to get to goal I'm lucky to see a .5 lose every 2 weeks. I think it just depends on the person and how close you get to goal. Good luck!
