Well the day has come and I am a lady of leisure again :)
We had a great but exhausting weekend and the last 2 days have been something else again.
Out advanced 4x4 wheel driving was very enjoyable albeit very tiring. We learnt a lot and in time I will post some of the photos we took on the net.
The last 2 days at work have been horrendous:yikes: , should have known and perhaps not have agreed to help with the unpacking of boxes but alas I made the commitment so coudln't really back out. When I was asked to stay for the rest of the week, I politely refused:tired:
I received some chocolates and roses when I left yesterday, so that was nice.
We are in Sydney for another 5 weeks then on to Adelaide/home. DH has 3 weeks holidays and after that who knows, the most likely place is Mumbai (Bombay) but going by past experience, this of course could well change again. I have grown used to the thought of going to Mumbai and even more so now, I was told at work yesterday that I would definetly be able to work in the Australian Consulate in Mumbai. Work has made life in a strange city so much more enjoyable so to know that I can get work in Mumbai is just a great way to get to meet the locals and find out about the places to go etc.
I'll be spending the next 5 weeks writing to our friends and try and organise to catch up with as many as we can during our stay at home.
The Mercedes has been put on hold until we are more certain of our future as to where and how long we will be in what ever place we are send to. DH wanted to buy it now but it would be really silly to have 2 expensive cars sitting in a garage at home.
The housekeeping staff will get a shock today to find me home! At least the place should be cleaned properly:cp:
Have a great day/night all.
Cheers
Maria

My detective work is paying off. Have met some lovely cyber friends who are researching the same family tree. May even have found a long lost cousin. I am enjoying the search a lot, even tho' it could be a bit pricey if I have to get all the software, etc. I'm hoping I can get enough help from others that I won't have to do that. (Just a cheapie):D:
Busy Labor Day here and resting up today. See you tomorrow. Ann

Ann: Glad your detective work is paying off! And to find a long lost cousin, how cool! :flow2:
Best get busy. Have a great day all! :snail:

All, I think I am going to live! I have so enjoyed the learning of new things in this job, but oh how wonderful it would be to do a job and be recognized as a person who is learning too. My boss just is so snarly because he is learning a lot and is stressed. When I grow up and am boss, I will certainly be one who understands good employers make good employees and snarly employers make timid employees. Oh well, I will live. Anne, hope you don't find any thieves and rogues in your past. Always been a fear of mine if I delve too deeply.

G'day all,
I haven't got out of the habit of getting up at 6am and here I am watching the US Open on cable and posting to you guys.
Glenda I am so pleased you are and have enjoyed learning all new things. A little while back you said you were too old :nono: to learn new things and I was a bit cross with you because I feel very strongly that none of us are ever too old. Mind you I am too old to put up with crap (am I allowed to say that or will that word be :censored: ) :D
Lily I sent work an email thanking everyone individualy, they were a good bunch of people and they were very thankful I stayed the extra 2 days to help them unpack.
I have made a list of things I must do and the uploading of our 4x4 wheel drive photos is about third on the list.
DH is a bit anxious that I write to our friends to let them know that we will have a get together at our home on October 20, I promised him I will do that today.
Of course the webpage I simply MUST get finished. I did a bit yesterday but even having done the course, Dreamweaver is NOT easy, but I will get there.
Ann sounds like you are having fun with your detective work, good for you. How are the eyes?
Hi to everyone else,

Hi Everybody We had our Labour Day weekend here in Canada too. I think the biggest difference between the USA and Canada on this particular holiday is that most of the stores in Canada are closed, and that they are open in the States. My DH was celebrating his 60th birthday on August 31st and he thought he would like to go away for the long weekend, so we drove to one of the towns just across the border. We had a really nice time, and celebrated his birthday there. Our Son and dil are taking us to a stage show this Friday as a birthday treat for DH, so he gets to have another little celebration. :gift:
Maria well as the Lady of Leisure, it sounds like you will have more then enough to keep you busy until it is time to go home. I bet you can hardly wait. :cloud9:
Ann do you remember when I was working on my family tree. It sounds like you are having way more fun doing it then I did. It seems to me that I had to do a lot of work to get just the smallest bits of information. I think also it's very difficult when you have ancestors who came to this country with names that the people at imigration could only GUESS how to spell. The other problem I had was that my grandfather was born in the Ukraine but the borders and countries years ago changed so much, that back in his time, the records indicated he was born in Austria. I know of course that he did not live in Austria, as that would have meant that he would have had to have travelled completely through Poland, Czechoslovakia or Hungary to get to the borders of Austria itself. What had happened was that the western portion of the Ukraine was under the rule of the Austro-Hungarian Empire from around the 1700 to about 1918 or 1920, and under Polish rule within that empire and later for a good portion of that time. This is probably way more information then I needed to tell you, but I just wanted you know how hard it was for me to find out anything. LOL  Keep working on your family tree, your kids will appreciate it. :)
After reading about the work you are doing I feel a bit inspired to start working on mine again.
Glenda, nice seeing you again, and hi Lily . Yesterday, Trudy and I worked hard to get a couple of WW bracelets made to give to the other Tea Time gals. We didn't have much time as we wanted to get them finished by the time they arrived for tea. One of the gals didn't make it, but Dee did and she loved hers. :)
Time for bed. Night all.

Hi all: Just a quick reply. Slavika: Your findings are very interesting, and that gives me hope that i eventually will find more on my fathers line. I found lots on the maternal line, with the help of friends, also,:D: but there seems to be scant records for my fathers ancestry. I know they came from Wales, and some names appear on the census lists, but can't find a trace of the great grandfather. Oh Oh maybe he was the rogue:mad:
Maria: good luck with all your last minute jobs, before you get home. The eyes are doing fine. Had someone tell me this week that I look younger. What a wonderful extra, as well as being able to see better.
Glenda: Just think how proud you can be that you have withstood the snarls. Make the boss a batch of chocolate chip cookies and give them to him when he has been most snarly :D: Maybe that will soften him up .
Greetings to you all. See you later. Off to exercise. Ann

Ann, good advice, if I baked. I have just come to the conclusion that I don't much care how he acts as long as I am trying my hardest. I have another worry right now. I am waiting the results of the cancer test I took yesterday. Remember last month when the numbers went up and then down? Well, the doc wanted to check in 6 weeks, so here I am doing the white-knuckle thing again. I will know tomorrow afternoon. Say a little prayer for me! Thanks.

G'day all,
A rainy, warm day here today. Early this morning I did the grocery shopping and now I have the day to myself and get on with some of those chores.
DH hasn't let got of getting a Mercedes Convertable whilst we are here:dizzy:, as much as I like them, I do think it is an awful lot of money .
Glenda Lots of good vibes from 'down under':goodvibes , I sincerely hope all will be well when you get your results.
Slavika sounds like you had a nice celebration for your dh's 60th. Any thoughts for him to retire? I really don't want to go too far past 60 (57 now, dh 56), at least put a stop to being away from home the way we are.
Ann I bet you were pleased getting the 'looking younger' compliment:cloud9:
I received the following in an email this morning, I rather liked it and thought I would share
SAND & STONE
A story tells that two friends were walking through the desert. During some point of the journey they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other one in the face. The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything wrote in the sand:
"TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE."
They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but the friend saved him. After he recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone:
"TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE."
The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him, "After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now, you write on a stone, why?"
The other friend replied: "When someone hurts us we should write it down in sand where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But, when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it."
The ‘Lesson’?:
LEARN TO WRITE YOUR HURTS IN THE SAND AND TO CARVE YOUR BENEFITS IN STONE.
They say:
it takes a minute to find a special person,
an hour to appreciate them,
a day to love them,
but then an entire life to forget them.
I hope you liked it.
Cheers

Alas... I could of swore I posted earlier in the week. Guess not. Must of had good intentions and work took me away....
Maria: Wish I could get more into Dreamweaver, but I cant download it again. Says I need to register it. I cant pay for something I dont know how to use, even with the great tuts you posted. Fraid I would pay and still not know so I wont. Sounds like you are getting along well with it and it takes alot of practice. I have several programs now that I dont use, so I cant get more. :sp:
Slavika: How was the stage show? Sounds fun, and was nice of your son to take you! What did you see? You really did get far back in your history. Im sure the further you go back the harder it is. And with your history Im sure its even harder. You found out alot tho, and its something to keep for the others.
Glenda: So what did you hear? Im sure its good news. I still have you in my prayers. :grouphug:
Ann: Good luck at WI! My fingers are crossed for you! Your gonna do good! Let us know! You are getting so far back n your history. Im sure its very interesting. Keep giving us the scoop. I find it very interesting.
Having people over tomorrow for dinner. Found a new recipe for a desset Im gonna try. Its a Strawberry Cheese Cake Parfait. If its good I will post the recipe. Made with Splenda. Hi Everybody
I heard from Glenda and the news from her last test was just great so she is doing fine and planning on having a good weekend, without worrying about it anymore. :cb: :dancer:
We had a nice evening with our kids last night at the Casino. I even managed to win a bit of money. I was playing the 25 cent slot machines and won 110 quarters, so that kept me going for awhile, and I even gave a handful of quarters to my dil. :cp:
The show was ok. It was a fellow impersonating Tom Jones. He actually was fairly good, but I wish he would have sung more of Tom Jones earlier songs. I don't know why he didn't, because when he sang Deliahla (sp) everybody sure enjoyed it.
I'll be back in a minute.

Maria I really enjoyed your story too, and passed it on in e-mails to a couple of my friends. :)
Hi Peggy and Karen what are you two up to? Peggy do you work on your Christmas Snow people year round, and are you still going to make them this year? Lily, so it looks like neither you nor I are going to make it to Maui this year. :(
At least you and DH are going to go away on a holiday, I'm not sure that we will. I guess if winter becomes just to long we could maybe take a little trip someplace.
Have a nice weekend everybody. :grouphug:

Reporting in down 1.2 this week. Now to keep going down. I just sseem to have a problem with the down/up syndome. Can't seem to just keep going down little by little. :?:
For some reason I am not getting email posts again, so just have to keep checking in.
Lily: I always experiment when we are having guests. Most recipes make more that just the 2 of us will eat, so it is a good time to try things out. Hope all went well.
Glenda::cb: :cp: :goodvibes So happy that the white knuckle time is over.
Maria: Time is flying past quickly for you now. I know you can hardly wait to get home for a while. Happy reunions with old friends and just a time to relax, before moving on to the next assignment. I want to know what you did with the box of chocolates? Did you enjoy them all or give them to your deserving DH?:D:
Slavika: The best part of all the ancestral search is meeting new people who have our family in common. I haven't gone back as far as you did, yet, but will continue. I finally decided to pay the fee for the year for Ancestry.com and take advantage of all they have to offer. My maternal grandmothers' family came from Strasburg, Alsace Lorraine, around 1850, and I haven't gone back further than that as yet. My Maternal grandfathers' family goes way back to England and a branch of that family was connected to Aaron Burr, so there is a rogue, of sorts, but he wasn't a direct line. So I keep looking.
Glad you won a bit. That keeps you going.Florida had a really big lotto this weekend $85million, but it wasn't our lucky day. I guess someone did win, or maybe several someones. No announcement as yet. What to do with all that money :fr: :headache: Somehow, I think that the problems would outweigh the receipt of the cash. That is what I have read about several of the really big lotto winners.
Hi everyone. Hope you had a great weekend.

Ann Congratulations on your weight loss, well done. You would have to ask about who ate the chocolates, :^: well we had visitors and it was an ideal time to get rid of them to the visitors!!!
Slavika What a win on the slotmachines:dancer:, I'd be pretty happy with that.
Lily you are as bad as me, I have quite a bit of software that I just haven't used that is why I am determined to use Dreamweaver, as you know it is quite expensive:eek: and I could never justify buying other software again unless I make some use of it!
I have some friends coming for lunch today. I only lost 1/2 lb this week, but I guess it is better than nothing.

All - well I did get good news. Friday afternoon at 4:10 I finally called the doctor's office and it had closed! So I had the doctor paged and seems they had called home and no one answered (duh!). Anyway, the number was good so we celebrated pretty well this weekend. Thanks for all the good vibes and prayers directed my way! Saw a movie I cannot recommend because it was just so sad, but good--"City by the Sea" with Robert Deniro. Sad to see what we can do to our kids when we divorce and hate the father. The movie bothered me so much because I have a son who has to work hard to see his child because of a very vindictive ex-wife.
Sorry to be a downer. I am happy and full of thanksgiving for my good number.

Hi Everybody: Maria DH showed me a picture of the Mercedes SLK, and it sure is a lovely looking car. In the reading the description, it says it has a electrically retractable hardtop, I think it must work like my friends Lexus.

Hi everyone, Haven't been able to get here lately. My son ended up having surgery on his knee last week and we have been going back and forth helping out. He needs rides to his therapy. It is just so far to go to his house. Wears me out. I had an outdoor craft show Sunday and it was 97 degrees. Way too hot to be selling or out buying. Who wants to look at snowfolk when it is that hot. Good thing they can't melt. We are making little children ones this year and they are so cute. I was glad thut we didn't have any with us Sunday. We caught a couple of people taking pictures and video taping our stuff. That is very rude in the craft world. My partner is a red head and she let one of them have it. Glenda I am so happy for you that your numbers are good. It must be such a relief for you. You should have celebrated at a happier movie. Maria are you enjoying "retirement"? I bet you look cool riding around in that new Mercedes. I bet it rides like a dream. Ann have you discovered any "interesting" people on your family tree? :D I think I might like to do that this winter. Slavika and Trudy are you making bracelets for your WW group? You could start up a little business. Lily your raspberry cheesecake parfait sounds so good. How was it? Can't believe that tomorrow is a whole year since the attack. Just heard that we are under orange alert. My dh is doing a reading in church and is wearing his fire fighter shirt. He is going to New York next week and is going to visit some firehouses and try to trade shirts with them. I told him to go at meal time and maybe they will feed him and his friend. He is riding with a friend who has to take some stuff to Rockefeller Center and then bring it back. Time to go get something done, it's pretty dusty here. Have a good evening,

G'day all,
Peggy sorry to hear of your son and the running around you are doing getting him to treatment etc. The heat at your craft show sounds horrendous. It is beautiful spring weather here and that is what I love:flow1:
Slavika Yes I think we are all lucky to be at this stage of our life and can afford these 'toys'. We reminisce about when we first got married with a $700 debt!!! and how are life has changed over the years. We feel very fortunate to have great kids and to be very close to them but our biggest priority is to look after our health so we can enjoy our good fortune.
The best thing I like about our new car is the hard top that is retractable, I would always worry about a soft top if you would still find it in one piece when you get back to it.
It is supposed to replace my little car but somehow I think it will not always be available and I will be driving the Landrover a lot more than I ever did in the past.
Good luck to you and Trudy at your weigh in.
I am feeling at a bit of a loose end now that I no longer work, if I was home I would have lots to do but here it is different. Today in 4 weeks time we will be on the road back home.
Next weekend we will be in Melbourne visiting our daughter, I am really looking forward to that.
For us September 11 is already here, unbelievable how a whole year has gone by. The many memorial services bring back many sad memories. All our trains, buses etc are driving with their lights on today as a mark of respect for those that lost their life on that awful day. Many private vehicles have joined in that tribute.
I read in the paper that one person, who lost her husband, just wished that September 11 was skipped, it was too painful to relive again. I tend to agree a bit.
I hope September 11 will pass with no further incidents.
Cheers all

:grouphug: Hi Everybody
This is a day filled with many many sad memories for so many people. I like Maria, hope that this day passes without incident. The front page of our newspaper carries a huge picture of ground zero.
Peggy even when our babies are all grown up they still need us. Ahhh, you are a good Mother. :)
A gal at WW asked me if Trudy and I were going to make the bracelets to sell. I don't think so. We made them for our Tea Time buddies, but you know everybody's wrist is a different size. There is another gal at WW that has made them, but she makes them all from the same kinds of beads. Trudy and I talked, and thought that would be really boring. One of our tea time friends sent me an e-mail this morning (I had given her, her bracelet yesterday). I had used coloured beads and silver spacer beads. Next to the silver beads I placed another flat sort of silver bead (like a washer) and she thought those could be used as a reminder to have a glass of water. I thought that was a very smart idea.
That lady at the craft show taking pictures of your snow people deserved to be told off. BROTHER :censored:
I managed to lose all of .8# but at least it's going in the right direction. Trudy remained at her goal weight. :cb:
Just hang in there Maria it will soon be going home time. :flow2:

G'day all,
The memorial services of September 11 were very moving but making it no easier to come to terms with what happened that day 12 months ago.
I am not particularly a fan of George Bush but I must say the way he and his wife tried to comfort each and everyone at ground zero was very impressive.
I went to the chiro this morning and on my return dh had been to the apartment and had left a note for me to ring him.
When I rang he told me that the majority of his staff (6) had been made redundant as this project comes to an end. Somehow dh hung on to his job. DH had no idea that this was in the wind (we probably would not have bought our new car) , there is a feeling of doom and gloom at his work. Whilst we feel we have been lucky that dh got a job with Lucent some 2 1/2 years ago, it has been far from easy. The most difficult part is the lack of certainty of anything, we still don't know when we will be off again and of course the longer you 'work' from home the more you wonder how long before you get that tap on the shoulder. We really would like another 2 years before we will retire, if not 2 years at least another year.
We will just have to again wait and see.
I am with you Lily I also really appreciate coming here each day and 'talking' to you all, as I have said before, you are all one of the most consistant things in my life and I really treasure your friendship.:grouphug:
Sorry I am a bit gloomy, hopefully some more cheerful news tomorrow.

Maria - I am so glad you are with your husband right now. At times when the gloom and doom happen it is so wonderful to have someone to share things with. With his expertise, I am sure, if you want, he could get another job. He definitely has a lot of experience and is willing to relocate--a lot. Cheer up! And don't go second-guessing yourself about the car. We can't know everything about tomorrow.
The 9-11 stuff about "done" me in. I just had to turn it off. Brought back all the confusion, numbness and disbelief and just sheer agony. Just having a beautiful fall day here. Tomorrow evening my sis and bil, brother and sil come for a couples' weekend--eating out, going to movies, and playing games. YEA! I love these people and we need some FUN!

G'day all,
Things are a bit brighter today:)
DH and I went out to dinner last night and discussed the happenings of the day. A total of 34 people were made redundant but dh's job is secure (for the moment) and India is still very much on the cards. We have worked out our finances and all should be well. It was just such a shock to receive the unexpected news and you wonder what is around the corner for us. I guess none of us know or will ever know what is around the corner.
We have also decided that I will go home early with the Landrover loaded up. This weekend to Melbourne, the following weekend to the flowershow in Canberra and after that I will pack up and get ready to drive home on my own. It is a 2 day drive. DH will follow in the new car about 10 days later. When he gets home I will have unpacked and sorted out everything and we can sit back and enjoy seeing everyone.
DH has also been asked to cancel his holidays so how long we are home is very much in the air, another reason for me to get home early and organise 'stuff' before he gets home.
Slavika Well done on the loss, your bracelets sound really nice and useful.
Glenda Good to hear you are planning 'some fun' with your sister and brother and their spouses. I can assure you I am in for a lot of 'fun' when I get home catching up with old friends with whom we can laugh with until we cry.
Lily Don't work too hard! I probably would have been better off not watching all the ceremonies of 9/11, it was depressing.
I have just about got the webpage done for my nephew, a bit of tweeking here and there and it is ready to upload.
Must be off and do that 'tweeking' and then pack for the weekend:cloud9:

Hello Everybody
The week of September 23rd, my Son and DIL are going to New Orleans, and guess who is going to be playing mother of two school aged children. Ahh you guys guessed. :joker:
Anyway....... I was searching on the computer for children's games and I came across one place that had "Action Games". The first game was "Ring Around the Rosie". I was thinking to myself, that silly little child's game is like LIFE. On our board we all go along, doing what we do, day after day, and then like in the game we all fall down .......sometimes. When my brother was recently in the hospital I was down, then we had Glenda waiting on test results, Lily, sick with a cold, Maria away from her home, concerned about her husband's position at work and that of his co-workers. Trudy had the worry when her Mom was having surgery. :( So today, right now on our board we are all holding hands and going around and around, and all is well. :cb:
Brother is back at work, Glenda's results were great, Lily is over her cold, and Maria, is soon going home and her DH position at work is as secure as anybody's in this day. Good for us. :grouphug:
I almost forgot about Peggy and her son (who is now on the mend) and Ann who is now looking at the world a little easier. :)
Night all....stay well and reasonably happy until I get back. :halffull:

Hi everyone: Slavika, thanks for all the good words. And isn't it really great that through the wonder of the internet we have found each other and formed a unique support group of friends.
I'm sure you'll get lots of exercise as you kid sit. good for the numbers, and you'll probably work off a lot.
Maria: Hope your weekend is good, and what a relief that your dh position is still intact. I'm sure that with his experience, it wouldn't be hard for him to find another position if it came to that.I guess that sometimes we can only deal with things just one day a a time as no one really knowsw what is around the corner.
We had a short memorial service in our rec. hall yesteday a.m. and then a nice memorial at church last night. I didn't watch much of the t.v. coverage. It was just too sad. A friend here mentioned how hard it must be for people who have lost loved ones, to never have time to grieve privately. There will always be a public reminder. I'd never thought of that before.
Peggy: I think that the woman taking photos of your crafts had some nerve. I must admit, that times I've gone to a craft show and looked carefully at something wondering if I could do it. but would never be crass enough to take a picture. Glad your friend told her off.
Lily: Don't work too hard. You know you can always come here for an encouraging word now and then.
We are going to have an interesting week-end. Talked my dh into
attending a marriage encounter week-end. Supposed to make good marriages better. We'll see. Should be interesting. so I won't be weighing in on Sat. I'll have to extra specially good until next week.
Hello to everyone. Will fill you in ooon our experiences. Ann

Maria, I can't believe it. Can you guys get ready to leave that quickly? Do you have to have a new series of shots or anything? Are you still going to drive home on your own as planned?
Well we played this new game of "ring around the rosie" for about a minute and half. LOL Life, honestly, one minute you are worried about DH job and now you have a much different worry. You will cope just fine. You always do.

Maria: What a surprise for you and your dh. You'll have such a short time at home. Will you still drive separately, or have all those plans changed too? I'm susre you will do well, as you always seem to 'roll with the punches':spin: :strong: :cp: :stress:
I'm sure you must be feeling a bit on the stressed side right now, but we all send you :goodvibes: Just keep us posted on your pregress, when you have a minute or two. Ann

Hi all,
Just a further update, can this person cope with any more!!!!!!
As we arrived in Melbourne and got into our hire car, I rang ds to let him know we were on our way to dd.
It was nice having a chat to him and letting him know what was happening but the.......10 minutes later I received a text message on my mobile 'I have just asked Peta to marry me'!!!!!!
We are very thrilled as we like Peta a lot but there is more, they are getting married THIS YEAR in December, as in 3 months time. Peta is an Australian netballer and her commitments with the Australian Squad start in January, David, our son, has cricket commitments so end December is the window of opportunity that they will use to marry.
At the moment I am writing this in my hotel room in Melbourne, we had a lovely weekend with our dd and I am spending the day shopping with her today, tomorrow we will be leaving Melbourne again for Sydney.
As soon as I am back in Sydney, I will be applying for a visa for India (dh has already got his), we are up to date with all our 'shots'. I now anticipate leaving Sydney on my own next weekend (no time for the flower show:( ) and dh will leave as soon as he can in his little 'dream machine'. At this stage when we leave for India, I don't know but I DO know we will back for ds's wedding!!!
The one thing to keep in mind of course, is the fact that dh's work is known for things changing but as it looks now, it is a very definite that we will be there for 12 months or so. DH wants to re-negotiate his package, India is not the safest spot in the world. Hopefully we can call it a day after India.
I must fly and get ready to meet dd.
By the way, anyone for a holiday in India???? I would love a visit.:D
Cheers
Maria

Well ladies, after lurking in the back drops for some time , and having to re-register after much ado hence the new way of spelling Ash, I have taken a giant leap and come forward again. I just couldn't let Maria go without saying goodbye.
Maria,
You sound as if you are very stressed about the whole thing but you will cope, of that I have no doubt, how did you enjoy seeing your DD this weekend, I suppose that you are now on your way back to Sydney. Another wedding in your family, whow, it never rains but it pours for you. I hope that all goes well for you.
