Default What kind of bread do you think is healthiest?

Iam looking for a healthy bread to eat. I dont eat much bread to begin with but do enjoy a piece of toast in the morning with a yogurt. Was just wondering what kind of bread you all eat and think is healthy. I really like bread with lots of seeds and grain(like a 12 grain bread) but not sure if this is what I should be eating.

I love bread with seeds in it too!
I always buy Nature's Own Honey 7 Grain. It's got sunflower seeds in it and it's soo good! It's also only 70 calories per slice, so it's fairly low calorie too.

I was told by a nutritionist to look for bread that uses rolled, stone ground 100% whole wheat (not necessary all 3). one that uses little oil as possible, who's sodium is no more than the calories (80cal, 80g sodium). you can eat breads with seeds and grains, but know that seeds can contain a lot of fat and should be eaten sparingly

Ezekiel sprouted bread. No sugar/honey/corn syrup.

I like Ezekiel, Sami's Bakery, and French Meadow Bakery products (better before they cheaped out on their hemp bread and dropped hemp down about 3 ingredients).

I don't buy any "bread" that is actually a lab experiment of sweeteners and refined carbohydrates (now with added chicory root so we can slap "fiber!" on the package) with some diglycerides binding the whole thing into something that looks like bread.

Ezekiel bread is fantastic; I like the ones from Food For Life brand. Also traditional pumpernickel is supposed to be really healthy, as well as rye bread.

Buy a breadmaker and make your own! I have a great recipe for wheat bread that uses honey instead of sugar, and no preservatives or other yucky stuff. There are also recipes for whole grain breads like you are describing.

We love Healthy Way 20 grain or whatever (the one in the red bag not the orange one) and Silver Hills Squirrely, both are sprouted grain, yummy, and coincidentally Canadian (we get them @ Costco in the US but heard of Squirrely from Cdn family members).

Also? Not so healthy but yummy is Thomas Bagel Thins (not ww though, but smaller than a reg bagel and nice for a change from the heartier breads, from time to time).

Sprouted grain breads, I think. Sprouting allows the grains to make their nutrients more bioavailable. There are a few different brands of sprouted grain breads, Ezekiel being one. I love their cinnamon raisin bread.

Breads made of real ingredients (whole grains, NOT high fructose corn syrup!)

Just a warning, if the bread does not have 100% WHOLE WHEAT flour on the labeling or in the ingredients even if it is "wheat" bread then it likely has mostly white flour. It is cheaper for bread manufacturers and lasts longer on the shelf. Companies will even add brown coloring to mostly white bread to trick people into thinking it is healthier.

Well labeling is all just advertisement, reading the ingredients is the only way you'd know what is in anything you buy. I couldn't imagine not reading the ingredients for things I buy and usually if the ingredients list is too long, I will stop reading and just put it back.

I also like the Ezekiel bread. Don't look for it by the regular breads though, I usually find it by the vegetarian frozen foods. you have to let it defrost and also keep it in the fridge so it doesn't go bad fast. I sometimes have the cinnamon raisin kind toasted and put some almond butter on it for breakfast.

Food for life is another one I used to enjoy that is good, but I'm hooked on the Ezekiel now.

I've always found Ezekiel with the regular breads at Albertson's and Trader Joe's. I think it just depends on the store.
