Good morning chickies!

I haven't seen Okie...where are you, Okie?

Jenn - love the new picture! Sorry to hear the hotel stunk!

Chelby - ahhh, the thrills of SBD...glad you enjoyed the Mardi Gras, and good for you for jumping right back on. You too, Lexiss!

Good morning all chickies!

I'm up ready to get on the treadmill. On the bad side, I haven't eaten as well as I should in the last couple months, on the good side...I started getting up early in December, and am still at it! Not bad for short days, huh?

I just heard the snow plows go by. A disappointingly low amount of snow :(. But, I'm waiting to see if DS has a delay or not, there's a lot of country roads in the district.

Have a great day, everyone!

Good morning, Twynn, and those to come.

Twynn, we didn't end up with much snow, either, although when it first started it came down heavy. I'm not disappointed, though.

I've been watching the Olympics, and I'd better go catch up in the threads to see what you've all been doing.

BBL!

Good morning Twynn. Wow, great job getting on that treadmill in the morning. I am impressed by people who can do more than drink coffee and stare at the news in the morning ;)

Cottage - at first read I though you were disappointed! Couldn't figure that one out because I know you have had plenty already.

We are in the pre-snow should we or shouldn't we phase of the storm. Schools are closing now but there's no snow in the air yet. That leaves me debating. I've had the unfortunate experience of driving in more than once only to find the roads getting worse by the mile and then being at the office as the snow piles up. I've got a couple of hours to decide but it does look like the snow is heading our way. Maybe I'll start with opt for a late start and then watch the storm.

Stop by and have a cup of coffee before your day begins. How are things shaping up where you are?

Wow! Three of my favourite people beat me to it. That's OK - the daily isn't the Olympics and Canada is doing OK. Cottage, Twinn and Cyndi, I hope the snow doesn't amount to much. You have had enough this year.

Yesterday was a delightful afternoon! I did niggles in the morning - even fixed my camera - and Holly brought over the new puppies (5 weeks) in the afternoon. Of course a bunch of my friends had to come over to see them so we sat around, sipped a bit of wine, cuddled puppies and did the "Awwwww" thing. Disney and Jazz but not really enthused.

This morning I run the Good Food Box programme which will take up my morning, plan to have lunch with Claire, do pet therapy mid afternoon and have two things tonight - Pancake day supper and a meeting re fund-raising for the Sweden trip. I hope to work in some quilting and Olympics during the day.

I am NOT complaining. I read an article the other day that said people who are bored die sooner than those who are enthused.

Someone asked the other day about figure skating. When you grew up in Ottawa in the 1940's, you almost had to skate or lose your citizenship. We had the Rideau Canal (http://www.canadascapital.gc.ca/bins/ncc_web_content_page.asp?cid=16297-16299-10080&lang=1) and every schoolyard had a rink. There was also the Minto Skating club that was quite famous. And then there was Barbara Ann Scott. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbara_Ann_Scott)
I still have skates and just may try them out - carefully - one of these days as both Lakes are frozed solid and skating areas have been cleared.

So there's the history lesson of the day. We now resume normal kvetching! :coffee:

Morning all!!!
Looking forward to my last Mardi Gras Holiday day off from work. We decided not to go to N.O. today. We'd be dragging tomorrow and it's COLD out there!
Will just putter around here today.

Went to see Avatar yesterday afternoon. Wow. I'm not into sci fi stuff, but my husband is and since he always goes to "girl movies" with me, I decided we'd go see something he'd like even though I knew I wouldn't. wrong! That movie was unreal. Really enjoyed it.

Hope everyone has a great day no matter what your plans are.

I just remembered today is Shrove Tuesday, better known as Faschnot Day around here. Faschnots are lard laden donuts, deep fried in even more lard and covered in cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar. I used to like them, but now I find them disgusting, thanks to SBD. :) They are probably going to be everywhere today.

Ruth, I find it hard to believe that you didn't succumb to adopting a baby sister or brother puppy for Jazz and Disney. ;)

It's snowing. Again. :(

Good Morning:sunny:

I've been up for a bit and decided to do a 10 min pick up while coffee was brewing; then the troops started moving so we've been outside and pups have had their breakfast.

Twynn, thanks for getting us started. I'm so ready for spring.

Cottage,

Cyndi, I hope your day is smooth sailing whatever the weather.

Ruth, thanks for sharing your skating history. I loved skating when I was young and occasionally skated in Alaska. I agree, busy is a good thing.

Hi, Cat. Glad to hear you saw Avatar and enjoyed it. We haven't been yet. Happy puttering!

Me, water aerobics then paperwork and a dog therapy meeting at noon. I need to get the planner out and see when we need to travel again-hopefully we can get by here for another week.

Enjoy your day, everyone!

Good morning:

Twynn - Thanks for getting us started. Have a great run.

Linda - For some reason this year I just have not been watching much. I am taping all the main events and fast forwarded through some skating. Maybe it is partly because I find that sitting in front of the TV can lead me to snack?

Cyndi - Be safe! Yesterday someone at the gym was complaining about our winter, which has seemed long and is snowier than usual. But I told her we cold be on the east coast! She stopped complaining.

Ruth - You are so busy! And do so many great things for others:) I have also seen many times that the people who live the longest have lots of social connections; and it sounds like you do:)

Cat - Glad you liked the movie. Did you see 3d? I regret that we didn't - they were all sold out when we went.

Debbie - Do you do the water aerobics outdoors?

So last night was the first time (or second maybe) since back on SB 6+ weeks that I have not gotten up to pee at night. Some nights I even go twice. I wonder if it could be cause and effect from the OP bread I ate for my evening snack. Anyone find bread makes them retain water? No weight gain per the scale, fortunately.

Have a great day all.

Karen, yep, saw it in 3D...at first I was thinking "oh, no, I have to wear cardboard glasses!" But, they were plastic like 1950's sunglasses. It was cool..even the previews for other stuff were in 3d. I loved it.

Ahh, back after my Wii yoga. I definitely like the Biggest Loser yoga routines, though glad it was on sale.

Ruth - I used to love skating. I grew up in the Peggy Fleming era. We walked to the skating rink everyday all winter and had the haircuts :) I still have skates but no one to go with so haven't been in years.
I'm also impressed that you didn't add a puppy to your family.

Cat - Enjoy your relaxing day at home

Debbie - Are you starting garden plants? Anything new and interesting this year? (I would much rather talk about gardens than snow storms ;) )

Well it looks like this storm is going to be more PR than problem so I better get moving. Have a good day all

Laisses Les Bon Temps Roullier!
Let the Good Times Roll!

It's Mardi Gras! But, since I'm in Alabama, it's just another day. :p

Twynn, Good for you and your treadmill! :)

Cottage, Did your hubby get the grill fired up this weekend?

Cyndi, I can't imagine anything worse than being stuck at work or in the car in a snow storm. Scary!

Ruth, Thanks for the history lesson. :) I asked about skating. I thought about you when the kid from Canada won the Gold last night. If I would have known the words to your anthem, I would have sang, too.

Debbie, You need to travel south next time. :D

Cat, Enjoy your last day off! Will you have school on Ash Wednesday?

Me: I'm starting to wish my life away. Tired of being cold and ready for spring! It snowed again last night. You Northern Chickies are tough! :)

Auston just got up. We need some snuggle time. Happy Fat Tuesday!

Karen, we have the greatest year round pool in the world; Hot Springs Pool (http://www.hotspringspool.com), it's too bad you're not coming a little further west.

Cyndi, we used to watch PF train at the rink in Colorado Springs. I don't start garden plants, for lack of space. I usually buy at our botanic gardens or sow right into the ground. I'd much rather talk about plants. How about you?

Chelby, enjoy your snuggle time. I would love to do more travelling, but have these special needs dogs. 3 days was a big deal for leaving them with someone else. Wish I could pack the car and travel with them, but sadly, I absolutely detest driving.

Good morning chicks! Back to work today, but not back to school! Although I worked last week, it was very quiet with the government off. They should all be back at it today, and trying to catch up, so should be hectic. Kids are home AGAIN. We only got a dusting yesterday, so I guess this is still due to clean up from last week.

Cat, we saw Avatar over the weekend. I loved it too. Very cool. There are a lot of movies in 3D these days, seems like all of the kid movies are.
cottage, guess we managed to send the snow to Cyndi this time around! A lady at my mom's church makes Faschnots every year and my mom always brings us some. Fortunately, I don't care for them. I tried your butternut squash lasagna - got leftovers for lunch, yum!
Chelby, did you know they named Fat Tuesday after me? Bundle up, and quit wishing your life away.
Be careful, cyndi, hope it doesn't turn to be much snow.
Debbie, that lodge looks amazing. When I come to visit you, that's where I'll stay.
Tammy, you're disappointed?
Ruth, I skated a little when I was young and fearless. It just scares me now because I'm a klutz and would surely break something. It looks so fun, though.
Karen, your bladder should adjust somewhat. I still sometimes get up at night, but not too often. I do try to do most of my drinking early in the day.

Have a good one! I'm going to go try to figure out how to do a whole chicken in the crock pot.

Chelby, no day off tomorrow..I teach at a public, not a "Catlic"
Which reminds me...when I was a kid, I thought there were just 2 religions..you were either a "Catlic" or a "Public". Kids think the weirdest things! I've been thinking about what I'm "giving up" for lent...kind of hard when I've already given it all up already. BTW, live streaming of MG at http://www.wwltv.com

Good morning friends!

I'm checking in from my parents' house in Massachusetts this morning. The snow has just started here. I'm getting my "snow fix" but I have to go to the grocery store this morning, so hopefully that won't take away my snow joy. lol

My mom and dad are always so good about trying new foods when I visit. They tell me to cook whatever I like and they'll eat it. :D I'll fix tried and true (they love the broccoli cheese soup, salsa chicken and spaghetti squash Italian pie) but I figure this is my big chance to try Cottage's butternut squash lasagna.

Ruth, you're younger than my mother but you two have a lot in common. She and I are hoping to go snowshoeing later on this afternoon, and we skate together on the pond here every winter. :) She's had to cut back on her activities recently because of my dad's health but like you, she enjoys being out and about and would give her shirt to anyone who needed it. I sure wish she enjoyed the computer more - she always asks about my "friends on 3 Fat chicks". lol

As always I enjoyed reading through everyone's posts. It's fun knowing what's going on in your lives. I don't have time to send a personal to everyone - gotta get to the store. :)

Enjoy your Tuesday!

Morning chickies-

Well, the Dr thinks it's either Chrone's or "something else." He really doesn't know. So, one more test next Monday at the hospital. Good times.

Twynn, Cottage, Cyndi and Ruth  Thanks for getting us started!

Femme - Same here, DW wanted to see it and I thought it was nice visually but lacked, something. Worth seeing though!

Morning Debbie! :coffee:

Chelby: Stay warm!!!!

Schmoodle: Yes, it was quiet. I am home again today, it was hard even getting to the Dr on time this morning!

Heidi - Hope the grocery store isn't that bad!! I hate the way it gets here!

Ok, off to get some work done. Wii Fitting today as well.

Good Afternoon, everyone!
It's been awhile-- no? I've been without a computer for the past 3 1/2 weeks. :headache: Needless to say it's been a rough 3 1/2 weeks working without my baby, but the semester is going well.

I got off plan for a couple of days last week and now I'm back on. Hopefully having my computer back and being able to get on these forums more will help me keep on track.

Hope all are well! :)

Chelby - Do you have a Southern accent? Somehow when I read your posts I hear a great drawl in my mind. I am very, very ready for spring too. But then I realize that it is less than 4 weeks until our spring break ski trip and I wanted to lose just a bit more weight by then. Little boy snuggles are the greatest:) BTW - I spent a lot more time on facebook before I got so busy on here.

Debbie - We stayed overnight in Glenwood Springs a couple of years ago on the way back from Utah. I wish we'd had more time to explore.

Schmoodle - That made me chuckle. I figured I was going to be up at night for the rest of my life between this WOL, menopause (not there yet), and DH waking me when he pees. I never drink after dinner! Let us know how the chicken works.

Jenn - Thanks for updating us. Sorry you don't know for sure yet. I have a friend from college who has lived with Crohn's for more than 20 years - it is hard .... but at least you would have some answers and know what might help. My 16 year old teen neighbor got diagnosed last year after missing tons of school. This is my favorite avatar yet! I love your smile in this shot.

Heidi - I just "met" your mom. How very cool to have her on here!

Kate - Computerless - how did you manage in this electronic age?

Kierie - Is it appropriate to wish you a Happy Lent?

Kara - Welcome back. Pictures?

Rose - I was just wondering how the visit went.

Okay - here it is almost 3pm and I am only now heading off to shower. Sigh. I looked for fresh brussel sprouts at Target today and they had none so I get a reprieve:)

Good Afternoon Ladies,

DH and I are 8 days into Phase 1 and I can't believe how easy it's been this time around.... it's like we just fell back into our old SB WOE. I'm sure we'll have some times when it gets tougher a little later, but for now I'm just going to enjoy how easy it is.... :smug:

Schmoodle... I understand your fear of skating and have to say, it's completely justified... not 'cause I think your a klutz... you don't have to be a klutz to hurt yourself. I actually fell on roller skates in April 2008 and ended up breaking my wrist in 12 places. :yikes: That's what threw me off track from the WOE... The injury required surgery with pins and an external fixator. I was heavily medicated and ate a LOT of ice cream... It was about 9 months before I was though with treatment.

It sounds like everyone is getting snow but us... :( I'm really hoping we get dumped on in the next week or so, but it doesn't look likely. We've got friends coming to visit next week from Las Vegas with their 9 year old daughter. Last time they came was the first time she had seen snow and she spent hours over at a little hill at a nearby park where all the neighborhood kids go sledding. She had such an awesome time I really hope we get some of the white stuff ourselves so she can repeat the experience.

Have a great day on the beach everyone! :)

Just a quick afternoon drop in here :) The weather was worse than we thought it would be and, of course, I had to drive. Every year I do this to myself once  I did come home after lunch though and worked my stress off on the treadmill. Tossed on a movie I'd been meaning to watch forever and committed to watching the whole thing. It was 2 hours, I probably should have checked that first ;)

Kara - Glad to hear you had fun and nice to see you back :)

Chelby - I would walk home 27 miles in the snow before I'd stay at work overnight ;)

 all you chatty Chicks. Time to get dinner on. DW is on her way home and should be here soon. Think I'll make a cup of tea for her too. I'm sure she will want something warm.

Schmoodle, come visit anytime. I'm wondering if you figured out the chicken in the crockpot yet.

Cat, have you decided yet? I suppose it's cheating to give up something you already gave up.

Heidi, glad you had a safe trip and it's nice to meet your Mom.

Jenn, I wish you were getting better news. My Sis has had Crohns since 1977-she's nearing 50 now. She has found that she had food allergies which aggravated it and manages it very well. PM me any time

KateSparrow, good to hear from you. How's school going

KO, what no HFCS for how long?? Love ya!

Kara, welcome back!

Pearlrose, glad to hear you're home safe.

Sophie, always thinking of you...

Karen, enjoy your "reprieve"...

1oftheLuvs, glad to hear you're feeling so good! Keep truckin' as they say!

Cyndi, that would have to be a really good movie for me to ....you know! Glad you made it home!

It's approaching get dinner ready time. Rudi is sick of the Spring challenge, and was very unfriendly when he was brushed this afternoon...I'm finding the earlier the better...same for my exercise. I think I'll speed clean for awhile....and post my SC before I forget.

Debbie, the chicken turned out well. I put cut up onions in the bottom, skinned the chicken (mostly), and rubbed it with olive oil, garlic, lemon, thyme, basil, S&P. The breast is a little dry, but not bad. It really absorbed the flavors. I got a lot of nice broth in the bottom and I'm going to pick the carcass when we're done and make some soup tomorrow. I think it's less dry than oven-baked, and good to do if you're going to be out of the house all day. Will be nice if I want to make chicken salad too, DH hates it when I stew a chicken - it does stink. This didn't smell up the kitchen that way.

Jenn, I'm sorry you don't have your answers yet :(

Karen - It was pretty rough in terms of getting work done... everything is electronic now. With this website called "moodle" all of the handouts for my classes (and even some of the lectures) are online and everything needs to be submitted online. Luckily the library has a 4 hour laptop loan... fully equipped with Windows 98. o_o But not having a computer was good for me. I've been knitting up a storm instead of facebook browsing. :)

Debbie - Good to be back! School is going well. My classes are great this semester and I'm very busy with all sorts of things-- which I love.

thanks for all the love chicks :hugs: Hopefully this last test confirms Crohn's. Then it will have a name. With my mom dying 2 years ago of such cancer that spread so much and all over to the point they can only assume it was stomach starting as the biggest tumors were there, it's something that makes me nervous.

Oh jen, sorry about your mom. Of course that would make you nervous! I hope you get your answer soon and can stop worrying and get some relief.

Debbie, I threw away the wrapper, but it's what I'd consider an average-sized roaster - around 4, 4.5 lbs, I guess. I started it on high, after three hours turned it to low, and total cooking time was 7 hours. But I just finished picking the carcass, and it was still pink in the thigh joint, so I'd go an hour longer next time, or leave it on high for longer.

If I was on my own computer I'd post a pic of the amazing cake my daughter Beth made during that time - it was an arm with a fixator. LOL She takes after my mom, she has a great sense of humor and is very creative and artistic.

Mine was a Colles that included both the radius and the ulna... my surgeon said that I did an "excellent job of breaking it" :dz: It was just completely shattered.

I totally felt like Frankenstein... that was an expression I used often... and people's reactions were really interesting. They'd either make a face and look away real quick, or they'd go "cool... whatcha do? how's that contraption work?" and get within a half inch of it to get a closer look.

After 6 months of PT 3X a week I have full range of motion (they said I never would, but I was determined), I do still occassionally have some pain especially when there is a low pressure system coming in... Can you predict the weather too?

The cake your daughter made sounds great! I'd love to see a picture of it when you are back on your computer...
