Here are some new pages. I'm getting ready to run to JC, get my hair cut and colored, and to stock up for our little snow storm/blizzard that is on the way tonight through Wednesday morning.
Only 39 days until Spring!
02-08-2010, 11:48 AM
Thanks for starting us Vickie. It was all I could do to crawl out of bed and go to training with Todd. He went a little easier on me since I've got this cold. I skipped aquafit and am now finishing some pension-related paperwork. It should be easier than it is!
Ok, last week I did not increase the amount of time I walked the dog, and I didn't lose two pounds, but I broke a barrier. This week I'm going to try to make sure that when I have a snack, it is a vegetable, with one 2 point chocolate allowed each day. I'm making a pot roast today that I hope will last a few days, and I bought some frozen wild salmon to cook later this week.
I'm going to finish this paper work and go back to bed. It's a rainy cool day here in NC Texas, and we had a loud thunderstorm last night. I have missed the displays of thunder and lightening since Toronto didn't have too many of those.
Have a great day...BBL..
02-08-2010, 12:38 PM
I could go for a good thunderstorm right about now....as it is, it's snowing once again. Sigh. My kids have decided they prefer summer to winter. Can't say that I blame them.
I'm having a blah kind of day. I feel like hibernating. Perhaps I shall, once I get the laundry, dishes, and shopping done.
Hope you start feeling better soon Rhonda.
02-08-2010, 02:18 PM
I stayed the same again...I must be at a plateau. I'm more concerned about my blood pressure. Now it is VERY low since I seriously dropped my salt intake. My lowest reading was 98/44! No symptoms except fatigue. I'm waiting for the Nurse Practitioner to call me back since last Friday.
Sheesh....it's alway something, isn't it?
02-08-2010, 04:10 PM
When asked how he was this weekend, I heard a gentlemen tell someone, "I am vertical." Well, that's how I am, too. Allergies. Nuff said. I'm sure you've all had them, too, and know what I'm talking about. I have an appt with a specialist next week. Other than that--all is well here.
Rhonda, I'm sorry you have a cold, but you have perfect weather to snuggle in a robe. That's what I'm doing, too, while looking outside at the lake all around our home. Sounds like you have a good plan for snacking. I'll tell you about mine in a minute.
Vickie, your bp is extremely low. I passed out when mine got that low one time. Be careful.
Angela, I'm enjoying the hybernating right now. Wish you could get some thunderboomers and do some hybernating, too.
I am dusted, and this AM I turned down an offer for a fried pie made by a local Mennonite family. (Their baked goods are awesome!) We loaded up on veggies for lunch. I'm ready to be off my hiatus and back op. It's about time. Well, the alarm has been going off for days, but I just heard it.
Rhonda, I'm going to make a fruit smoothie this afternoon. When you say "veggie snacks", does that include popcorn? I'm not good at snacking on raw veggies. Guess I should try harder.
Have a good day, Chickies. I'm off for an afternoon of movies, recliner, and afghans.
02-08-2010, 05:16 PM
Was a late day of me again, didn't sleep the night before so I took a sleeping pill last night and got up late.Everything after that ran late.
Have to get my computer room is shape all the junk from the other rooms are in here, now for the big throw out.Have 3 bags and a box to the big brothers and the other bags to the Emerald House. The rest in the garbage.
Its so frustrating,Right now I'm using the Harris Benedict formula for counting calories and they have a advertisement over there about a girl who lost weight in on them at all. She's not on a diet but eat certain foods that burns fat and doesn't store carbs. Of course I went all the why threw her speel and for 8 books @ only $47 She claims that its the sugar in healthy foods like whole wheat bread, soy milk & fruit, and fat that in margarine, but she did say that butter was ok to eat. Wish there was a way to get out of rut and we would all lose a healthy amount of body fat.
Have a nice evening I have to get back to dusting and vacuuming my living room.
02-08-2010, 07:56 PM
The best thing about retirement is naps! I just woke up from 1 1/2 hour of solid sleep. Wonderful.
Maryann, I don't think that there are any special foods that do any magic or really burn fat. Just try to avoid added sugar, highly processed foods, etc. Eat as close to "raw" as you can and still cook your food. I've ranted a bit here about how hard it is to find good bread without sugar being the 2nd or 3rd ingredient, so I won't repeat that.
I'm convinced it's all about the slow way. We didn't gain weight in 5 pound chunks, we did it one ounce after another and that is the way it comes off, as infuriating as that is! :tantrum:
It helps to have a cold and no appetite!
Sandra, popcorn. No, I'm not eating it. If I had an air popper I would. I don't want to eat the microwave stuff much any more.
02-08-2010, 08:59 PM
Hi everyone. I feel like I haven't been here is a long time. It was a busy weekend, and I'm glad its over. The Church dinner was last night, I spent Saturday afternoon cooking and getting stuff ready. We had a nice treat though -- dd had a late playdate and had dinner at a neighbors house. We had a nice dinner out just the two of us and we didn't have to pay a sitter. Double bonus!
Then Sunday I was at church basically all day -- service in the AM then home to get some stuff cooking, back to church at 1:30, run back home to check my oven at 3, back to church to keep preping things, run back home at 3:45 to get the rest of the food. Get the dinner started for 4:30 until 6. There was a missionary family from China that we support there speaking (thats why they had the dinner). Their talk was very intersting. Then everyone went upstairs for the class they are taking while we cleaned up the room and got all the food put away.
Of course we had waaaay to much, but sent the missionaries home with a pan of food and then 2 needy families got a good supply of cooked food. So, it was worth it. It was exhausting but I 'm glad I was able to help.
My leg is doing well, never really had any pain, but just uncomfortable where the stitches are -- pulling feeling. Another week and those come out. I am going to the Y tomorrow, I didn't dare try over the weekend. I need to also get strickly back on plan. Being home working on Friday was a bad thing food wise. Too much grazing on not the best things. So, I'm back at it today.
Vickie - what did your Dr say about your bp? Please let us know.
Sandra and Rhonda -- hmmmm, a nap would be wonderful. I don't think I've taken one of those since dd was an infant!
Maryann -- snow Wednesday. Could be nasty!
Hi to everyone else! Have a good night.
02-08-2010, 10:54 PM
I watched the hoarding show last night and that motivated me to do cleaning out today. When I watch that show I start asking myself why I keep things.
When the weather warms I want to clean out my attic and I need to watch that show every night. My house is not so bad but my attic looks like
the spaces in the show.
I must try something different because the scale is not moving. I am going to try eating 200 calories every 2-3 hours and see if that will take me through the day.
I think I can stick to 1200 calories that way and eat core.
Angela..That baby is getting close to being here isn't it. I hope you get the sleep you need.
Vickie..Keep us posted about your blood pressure.
Sloan..sounds like your laundry room came out nice. You get more done in a day than I do in a week.
02-08-2010, 11:48 PM
Thanks, Chicks. You are all awesome! The plan is for me to take cut my bedtime beta-blocker in half. PA is going to talk to the Nephrologist when she returns on Wednesday. Then they'll decide what more to do if anything.
We have a huge snow storm moving in now that is to last through Wednesday morning. So I won't be going anywhere. My plan is to stay home and cook. I'll be careful Sandra. I see that dizziness and fainting are common side effects. I'm scared so I'm being careful. She says I can exercise but I think I'll use it as an excuse to hold off a couple more days until I hear from the Doctor. I'd like to not make myself sick in the middle of a blizzard! We are supposed to get 9-12 inches.
02-09-2010, 01:02 AM
Hey chickies, snow again! We will be staying home tomorrow.
Angela, tell your hubby if he wants to be around to see his kiddos grow up, he needs to have a sleep study. Sleep apnea predisposes people to high blood pressure and heart disease, and he does not want that.
I want to speak to the rest of you, but I'm falling asleep while I'm typing. TTFN
02-09-2010, 08:42 AM
Well, I'm attempting the Y this morning. I can't wait for a good workout!
Have a good morning.
02-09-2010, 09:14 AM
Angela, I didn't mean to sound harsh about your DH. It's just that sometimes we have to push those guys, and using the kids as ammo sometimes works. Hope you're not angry with me
02-09-2010, 09:45 AM
Oh my Sloanie, no I'm not angry. I have been saying the same things to him for years. His dad had his first heart attack at 45, and dh turns 39 this year. He has high cholesterol already, and GERD that in dh's dad, has turned into Barrett's (basically precancerous cells in the esophagus.) The funny thing is, dh will go treat his GERD with the doctor but not the other, more serious stuff. I am really going to pressure him to try to lose weight along with me after baby's here, as I think that would help a lot of his medical problems. He's not grossly overweight, (205 pounds at 5'10"ish) but I know just 10% would help a lot. I tend to cook fairly healthy meals, but he chooses what he eats for some lunches and snacks, so I can't starve him into losing weight.
It's snowing here now. We've got your storm right here for you Vickie, you should see it soon :D and it's another snow day for the kiddos. I'm trying to cook up some fun activities, because they're already at each other's throats and it's not even 8am yet!
Hope we all have a great day!
02-09-2010, 12:57 PM
Had a lot to do this morning had to go to the PO and than to the Bank and than to the insurance compnay. Nowe I getting ready for my cansta card game this afternoon. Had plans to go to H&R Block to get my taxes done but my 1099 form hasn't come in the mail,on the way I was going to get the remainder of Leo's clothes donated to our local charties. Now I hear that we are going to have some kind of a blizzlard on Wed. expecing 6-12" of snow. YIKES!!! It going to be a white Valentines than a red one.
Got on the scale this morning and I'm up 2 again bring me up to 174. This morning I went right away into low carbing. For breakfast had 2 stuffed tomato 1/2 with redused fat cheese. This afternoon I'm going to have ham roll ups with hot dog relish inside.Tonight Having salmon with 2 veggies. Never thought I would go so extreme now that I gaining.SB Phase 1 is for me,until I get this weight back to where I can handle it.
RHONDA-Its so hard to lose, and its getting harder the older I get. There no reason for the amount I weight except for a medical problem somewhere that my doctor hasn't pick up. I count calories and use portion control plates to measure my foods. Getting frustrating, but I guess we're all in the same predicament.
PAULA-I know about the white stuff, but I'm prepared so I not afraid unless the electric goes out.
See you late this afternoon or tomorrow morning if the power doesn't go out.
02-09-2010, 01:21 PM
Frustrating is right. My scale went back up two pounds and it beats me why!
Well, I'm not going to worry about it much. That hasn't done any good at any time. Just eat carefully, etc.
The bird man came this morning with lots of good ideas for me, and I'm very excited about creating a bird sanctuary in my yards.
Also, did I tell you that I have hired a cleaning lady? I've never done this, it's an extravangance, but she's here. I hardly know what to do, but when she's finished I know I'll be happy with the results.
02-09-2010, 03:49 PM
Angela, I'm glad I did not offend you! :goodvibes I have such good memories of snow days when my kids were little. We loved to do crafts, play outside, and make snow cream. Now, my kids are 22 and 19, we stay in our pj's all day and do jigsaw puzzles, watch movies (the same ones over and over), and eat too much.
Today I'm cleaning out the den in preparation for dry wall work. DH hung the lights but has not gotten the wiring finished, yet. I've asked him to build one more closet before we call the dry wall guy. I know that is going to push back our having the drywall finished, but we really need a closet by the outside door. Oh well, it will be so nice when we are done.
Paula, glad to hear that your leg is better. Your Sunday sounded busy and gratifying. :chef:
Sandra and Rhonda, sounds like we might be the "snot triplets". I have had a cold for days. I would really love it if my nose would clear up :tantrum: How are y'all feeling?
Maryann, have fun at your canasta game! Also, good luck with your low carbing.
Nancy, I need to start watching the hoarder show, too. I used to love to watch clean sweep where they take everything outside and sort it into trash, keep, and yard sale. It always motivated me.
Vickie, are you warm? I drove home in a snow storm last night. I could not see the stripes on the interstate, so I had to guess at where I was. When I got home, DH had to come down the hill to get me on the four wheeler! That was the best part of the trip!!!
I just got a call from my mom. The doc called and confirmed my dad's diagnosis as lymphoma. He has an appointment with the onchologist on Friday. I'll report more then. Have a great afternoon, y'all. TTFN
02-09-2010, 11:54 PM
Well, Sloan, it's sad about your father. Thanks for letting us know. No doubt your family is headed for some roller coaster times.
And, driving when you can't see the road. Oh boy, that is scary. Been there...!
My cold is still here. I was supposed to start with the new trainer tomorrow, but we would be working outside and it is supposed to be freezing. She suggested that we wait. I'll go see Todd anyway and see what I can do in the exercise department.
My eating was a little strange today, but I made a pot roast and that was pretty good.
I hope you all have a good night.
Sandra, how did the tournament go?
02-10-2010, 12:02 AM
Sloan, my nose isn't running a lot, but I am still coughing till I hurt. I got a shot yesterday and am on some medications that should help. My problem isn't a cold; it's allergies. I am going to a specialist Monday.
Rhonda, you're going to love your bird sanctuary. I'm glad you have a cleaning lady. But how will you follow your bread crumbs? (just kidding) A WW leader once told us that steel weighs more than cotton. You're building muscle and losing fat. I'll bet you can tell your body's smaller even if the scales haven't moved lately. You're doing so well. Just keep on keepin' on.
Vickie, I was thinking of you when we watched the weather tonight. Stay safe.
Waving at Paula, Maryann, and Angela. I'm thinking ya'll are having some serious weather, too. Be careful.
I did 30 min :ebike: today and also yesterday. Baby steps.........
02-10-2010, 12:24 AM
Sandra, I'm glad your nose is not runny but sorry about your cough. I'm very glad that I'm not coughing. After a 9 lb 12 oz baby, I have some problems when I cough, if you know what I mean. I do know two adults that started allergy shots in their "adult years", so maybe the doc can help you.
Rhonda, I'll keep you posted on my dad, thanks for your kind words. I heard some advice about exercising when you have a cold. The idea was that if the symptoms were above the neck then exercise was okay, but if the symptoms were below the neck then you should rest. I was interested to hear that 'cause I've always wondered how to decide if exercise was okay. Hope you feel better soon.
I'm watching the news, and all of the counties bordering us are out again tomorrow. So far, our county has not closed. Oh well, I'll have to watch early in the morning. Have a good night, y'all.
02-10-2010, 10:52 AM
Good Morning Ladies:)
Nothing new, except for the snow just started at 9AM and the prediction was powder snow 3-5 today and tonight another 2-4 so that's a total of 9" instead of the 12" the previously told us. Now that all changed Its going to combine with rain so that's going to make a heavy snow too heavy for me to shovel.
Had a wonderful time with my friends at the canasta game yesterday. It was interesting as we had to play differently with 3 people.
RHONDA- Sorry about your 2 lb gain, but did you consider, with all the exercising your doing it could be muscle and you know that weighs more than fat. Now with the new muscle you have will be able to burn more calories in no time.
SANDRA-Will stay indoors I have all my meal prepared just have to heat them up,the only problem we might have it loss of power if the temps warm up and it starts to rain the combo will be ICE.:brr:
SLOAN-Sorry to hear about your dad, hope everything goes Ok with him and your family, sending prayers.Going to try low carbing again as some woman on another board that I post to are going great following that way of eating. Hope it works for me have to get out of the 170's back to the 160's where I was 1 year ago.
02-10-2010, 11:05 AM
Sloan, I apologize for not responding about your dad. Somehow I missed that part of your post. I am so sorry. We are all here for you if you need us.
Rhonda, Curtis and I both won our divisions for state titles. I also set 2 state and FITA records. We don't have another big tournament for a couple of weeks, but there are a couple of small ones in the area we may attend if we get to feeling better.
Maryann, I hope you don't get ice. We get that here in North Texas more often than snow--and it's the pits. Be careful.
02-10-2010, 01:06 PM
Good Morning Chicks. Sadly, my best friend's Sister died last night. Lung cancer at 43 years old. What a shame. It will be a sad and very busy next couple of days. I'll be back next week.
I hope you are all well.
02-10-2010, 01:34 PM
Oh Vickie, I'm so sorry for you and your friend. Hang in there these next few days...we're thinking of you both.
02-10-2010, 01:52 PM
Yes, Vickie, that is a real shame. So much life left to live after 43.
I exercised like a fool this morning and might just take a nap today. I'm going to make zero point soup too.
Sandra, you're amazing!!! Curtis, too.
02-10-2010, 01:52 PM
Oh Sandra, I know that you have been busy. I appreciate your kind words. I will go with my parents to the onchologist on Friday. I really dread it, but it has to be done. I'm trying to keep positive thoughts and prayers so I don't focus on the worst case scenario. On a lighter note, congrats on your big win! You are awesome!!
Vickie, I'm so sorry about your friend's loss. I know you'll be a comfort to her, but it will be hard on you. Know that we are sending you our thoughts and prayers.
Maryann, don't shovel that snow!!! It always melts in time ;)
I'm glad you had fun at your canasta game. Oh yes, thanks for your prayers.
I've been up since 5 am when DH left for work. Yes, we are out of school again today. I think we have 3 or 4 snow days left before we have to make up missed days. So far I have emptied and organized two kitchen cabinets, altered DD's pants, and now I'm taking a break. :faint:
I'll check back in later. Have a great day chicks!
02-10-2010, 03:58 PM
Dear Vickie,I Know What You And Your Friend Are Going Though.its Very Sad To Have Such A Young Life Snipped Away. Leo Battle Lung Cancer For 3 Years Before He Died And You Never Get Used To It.sending Prayer For You And Your Friend.
02-10-2010, 04:03 PM
SANDRA-Thanks I will be careful, don't want to throw my hip out.Hope the snow doesn't turn to ice, hopefully it will melt away also.
SLOAN-I shoveled this morning but it back to where I started.Going to wait before it gets dark to do the walkway and the car again.
02-10-2010, 09:04 PM
Vickie, that's so sad about your friend's sister. My son is 42. Her being 43 really hits home to me. I don't know what I would do if it were my son.
Maryann, you're wise to protect your hips. I've had the devil with mine but am well now. One thing about being back in Texas instead of Montana--no snow shoveling.
Sloan, you are wise to try to stay positive. That's important for all of you even though it may be extremely difficult to do. I keep looking at your weight tracker. I am extremely impressed.
Rhonda, you continue to amaze me with your exercising. You're my idol.
I'm subbing Friday and will be showing a DVD made of the 2004 Athens Olympics' Archery finals. I just contacted one of the US Olympic archers to see if he'll pm me a message for the kids. He lives in South Texas. We visited with him this past weekend at the state championship. He's a nice guy. I think he'll pm me if he gets the message in time. I would have given him more notice but I just found out today that I'll be subbing.
It's time for a snack. We have some delish fresh oranges. Life is good.
02-11-2010, 10:49 AM
Hi everyone. We had a dud of a blizzard yesterday-- there were 12-18 inches of snow predicted. It basically rained all day, it did finally snow last night, we got about 2 inches. Oh well, better less than more.
Vickie, so sorry to hear of your GF sister. I'm 44. Very scary to think of that happening so young. HUGS to you, you are a good friend.
Sandra, glad you hips are feeling better. Did you get the massage again?
Sloan, sorry to hear of your dad's diagnosis. Did they say what stage? Hopefully he will react positively to the treatments.
I did go to the Y on Tuesday -- I actually missed going there! Go figure. I managed to do 55 minutes on the eleptical, it felt great. Did not bother my leg at all. I can't wait to get the stitches out next Tuesday, they're starting to bug me.
Well, got to run. Hi Nancy, Angela, Mary Ann, Rhonda, Coco (do you still stop by?) and anyone else I missed.
02-11-2010, 12:05 PM
Paula, sounds like you're in "your groove" with exercising. Once a routine is established, it's hard to miss. I'm still working on the "establishing" part. I got a good workout on my feet yesterday--reflexology then a foot massage. My feet feel better than they have in years. I'm going back the next 2 Wednesdays for the same treatments.
We have all sorts of birds dining out back today. They look gorgeous with the snowy background. We are putting out about a gallon of seeds daily now. We don't put out that much in the summer. Curtis put up 7 bluebird houses; however, the local bluebirds must be hanging out somewhere else. They come here during the day to feed and bathe but so far the houses are vacant.
I'm op. I'll be subbing tomorrow. John PM'd me a beautiful message about following dreams for the students tomorrow. Now I'm hoping we have school. Schools around are closing around 1 pm today. I hope they're open tomorrow. If not, the kids will hear the message asap.
02-11-2010, 12:06 PM
I have a big pot of pinto beans on the stove and cornbread in the oven--winter day in Texas.
02-11-2010, 12:58 PM
:val1:Good Morning Ladies:)
Oh what a awful day we had.Shoveled out my car and cleaned the walkways several times before it got dark and than by 7PM the power went out for the night.TG for cell phones as I called several friends & my sister called me, so that passed the time and than I played several games of solitaire for the rest of the evening. Our power was restored some time in the early morning.
The plows came though our parking lot some time during the night,so it was easy for me getting the snow removed from the car and walkway.
This morning I had to dig my car out of the snow as the whole drivers side was buried, but this time the snow/ice mix was hard to shovel. The car wasn't that bad,as I put my heater on and blocks of icy snow started coming off the roof and engine.
My sister called and told me not to go out,but I have to pick up my meds and I have an unexpected appointment with the doctor this afternoon,so I must of out.:val1:
SANDRA-When Leo & I thought about retiring we decided to go to a cooler climate like Cape Cod instead of going down to the warmer states like Fla Tex of Arizona. Can't stand living in a A/C house all seasons. I'm lucky that my hip when it goes out it snaps back instantly but I don't know what the future will bring as I get older. Love to see some robins and other birds in the area than I will know that Spring is just around the corner.
PAULA-We got the ran but than it snowed again ant the snow turned to icy heavy snow.I think we got 4 " at the end after all the predicting for 4-10"They always get things wrong.Got my exercising done with all shoveling I did yesterday and this morning. Should have a good surprise on the scale shortly.
Have a great day, will try to come back later
02-11-2010, 02:29 PM
It's still snowing. We've been predicted around 6". That's a lot for our area. Beautiful!
Maryann, you be careful. And as to shoveling snow? Be careful with that, too. We don't want you having an accident or a heart attack--or anything else for that matter.
Rhonda, how many folks have asked you if you brought this weather with you? We used to get asked that every time a cold front came through. And folks in Montana used to ask me if I brought the summer heat with me when we'd have hot days up there. Funny....
02-11-2010, 05:10 PM
SANDRA..Hope your subbing goes well. I had a bluebird house up but every year a tuffed titmouse would use it. That was okay because I enjoyed them also. What kind of seed do you use? I use to really enjoy my birds so I am going to get some new feeders and see how many I can bring back.
A foot massage sounds heavenly
MARYANNE..I hope you did okay with your errands in the snow today. I am glad your power wasn't out very long. I am watching for signs of spring also..Can't wait.
VICKIE I am so sorry about your friends sister. I am glad you are there to help.
SLOANIE I am so sorry to hear the test results. Were you out of school again today ???
RHONDA..Zero point soup sounds good. I am excited about your bird
garden . Could you plant a few butterfly bushes at the same time. That would be a magical garden with birds, hummingbirds and butterflies.
When we move I need your ideas to plant one myself.
As for me I decided to count calories because my scale is stuck.
I am dividing out 1200 calories into 200 calorie meal / snacks during the day
and then a 300 calorie dinner and another 200 calorie snack at bedtime.
Sorta like this....
9am cereal + fruit(200 calories) (or eggs with toast)
12 soup + yogart( 200 calories)
3- protein shake (200 calories)
6 - 300 calorie meal or frozen entree
9 granola or other snack bar & dairy or fruit (200 calories)
What do ya'll think.. I have been doing it 2 days and I seem to stay
unhungry (which we all know is different than full ;)
02-11-2010, 05:28 PM
We've had luck with our blue bird houses. DD and I were waiting for the bus on Tuesday watching the birds in the feeders. There were robins, chickadees, a couple blue birds and then a woodpecker came to the suet. It was fun to watch!
02-11-2010, 06:14 PM
Nancy, we've found that our songsters prefer black oil sunflower seeds. Right now I'm looking at cardinals feasting. I got "flat" hanging feeders at Walmart. Hard to describe but they look like a dish hanging from 3 chains. The birds have an easy time landing and eating in them.
We've had a couple of titmouse today along with 2 large and 1 small woodpeckers, couple dozen or so meadowlarks, several cardinals & doves, 2 bluejays, a few robins, killdeer, and other flying critters we haven't recognized. (I think some of them might be chickadees but am not sure.)
I put out over a gallon of seeds today as we're having a "blizzard." We're down to about 2 more days worth of seeds and will have to head to Lowe's for more Saturday.
Oops! multitude of birds are back. I have a front seat for watching. Rhonda, you're going to thoroughly enjoy your bird sanctuary. These little guys are full of personality or should I say birdality?
Paula, I know you and dd enjoyed watching the birds this morning. Now that's building memories for sure!
Nancy, your menu looks good. I'm sort of counting calories. I've divided my week's pts so I have 29 per day. I've been faithful (this time) for 4 days.
Rhonda, where are you? Are you snowed in? We sort of are. I did venture over to Sand Flat a couple of hours ago. Now I can't even see tracks in our driveway.
Grandview School opens at 10 tomorrow AM. I'm not sure I'll still get to sub. I hope I do because I have the DVD and message already to go. The coach I'm to sub for has (had) a baseball game tomorrow at noon in Alvarado. I'd be willing to bet the game's cancelled.
02-11-2010, 06:16 PM
Oh Maryann, what a lot of snow you have to contend with. It is snowing, just north of Sandra. The city and county have closed schools and offices. It's funny, but really, no one knows what to do with this stuff here. I woke up to wonderland, and the snow is still falling.
I went to aquafit and only one other person was there! No teacher. So, I played in the water and worked some kinks out from the Torture Todd session yesterday. We now have a fire in the fireplace and all is well.
Yes, Sandra, the neighbors blame me of course. But, it's in good fun, I hope.
Nancy, your plan looks good. I should work one out for myself. I'm being a little sloppy this week, but trying to keep the calories down. I'll put in some butterfly bushes. I had those in Toronto, and loved them.
On thing the bird man said was to NOT trim bushes. He said the birds like them wild. I like that, less work.
02-11-2010, 06:20 PM
Sandra, I'm sitting in my lounge chair, in the den, by the fireplace...not going anywhere!
02-11-2010, 08:25 PM
Rhonda, I was worried about you since I hadn't seen you here earlier. I was afraid you were without power. I'm glad all is well. I always knew folks were teasing when they'd ask about MT/TX weather toters.
Looks like I prob won't be subbing tomorrow afterall. We can't even see the driveway. I'd hate to drive off and get stuck. I'll know in the AM if I will make it. Plus, I'm doubting they'll really need me. I think there were just 2 classes after the 10 AM opening since they don't have me do Men's Athletics.
Enjoy your fire. Have a glass of wine for me.
This weather is beautiful!!!!
02-11-2010, 11:58 PM
Hey chicks, I was having a pretty good day, eating wise, until I ate a huge sugar cookie with icing! After that, dinner went well with grilled tilapia and shrimp with mango salsa, rice, carrots, and broccoli. I just don't think that "mexican-tini" was core :( Oh well, I enjoyed the dinner. DD and I were out shopping and having fun.
Sandra, I'm sorry you are not subbing tomorrow. It sounded like you were looking forward to it. You're right, my family and I need to stay positive right now. I'm trying to substitute "worry thoughts" with prayers. It's actually very effective! BTW beans and cornbread sounds good to me. It is definitely a staple here in Tennessee.
Rhonda, enjoy the snow! Last week, the snow here looked like giant cotton balls coming down. It was so pretty!
Nancy, thanks for your kind words. We went to school today. So far this week, I will have been in class for two days, because tomorrow I'm off to go with my dad to the onchologist. Next week, Monday is President's day. We have not been to school for five days in a row since we started on Jan 5th.
Paula, we have not been given any info on my dad's lymphoma. I suppose the onchologist will talk to us tomorrow about the type and the next steps to take for staging. I really appreciate your concern.
Maryann, I'm so worried about you and that snow. Please be careful while shoveling. Many people have heart attacks while shoveling. How in the world are you staying warm when the power goes out? I hope you are okay.
I've got to get off here. I'm sooooo tired. I'll check in tomorrow. Sleep tight everyone!
02-12-2010, 09:56 AM
TGIF! I did my official wi this morning and I'm the same. Not too bad considering I didn't wi last week and my eating was off last weekend. I think a combination of working from home and having stiches in on Thursday. My eating has been good - I'm still doing core/sbd. My difference is I do eat some low fat cheeses and have a small amount of nuts if I want them. I made a spiced nut mix and put 1/4 cup in snack bags and put them all in the freezer. If I want something to snack on its easy to grab just one bag. Its working well. Its a long weekend for us and then school vacation next week. I'm planning on going to the Y Saturday/Sunday/Monday and Tuesday. I get my stiches out on Tuesday - can't be soon enough!
Sloan, let us know how things go for your dad. Keeping you in my thoughts.
Maryann, seems you got more snow than us. Barely a couple inches. Hopefully it will all be gone soon. Question for you -- do you know of any pet freindly hotels that are open now on the Cape? We are thinking of getting away at the end of March, my struggle is finding something that is open before mid April.
Have a good day everyone!~
02-12-2010, 01:00 PM
This snow has really thrown Denton into a whirl. I went to the gym for aqua fit yesterday and today, and no teacher. and only one other patron. Yesterday, I played in the pool for a while, but today I just walked out and went shopping for the Valentine's Day party on Sunday.
I'll do some kind of :exercise: at home.
I made cakes and brownies last night and put them in the freezer. I had a brownie and wanted a LOT more, but I didn't have them.
Good luck today, Sloan.
02-12-2010, 03:22 PM
Getting ready to pick up my Grandson from school .
He gets to stay at our house til Sat pm.
My 17 year old son will not be here to keep him company and Robin
can't get out so I need to think of something fun to do with him.
Of course everything is fun with him!!
02-12-2010, 05:14 PM
Went to the doctor yesterday and I had a cyst that had to be lanced and now I have to take an antiboitic for the next 5 days.
No wonder I was hurting when I was shoveling snow.,I found it at noon time when I took a shower and called my doctor right way and he took me in.
Today is my DS son's birthday also but I can't call him until tonight as hes has school from 9-4. He than told me hes not going be home as hes going out with his friends. I'm going out with my friend also at 5, I'm hoping that I can get a hold of him at 4:30PM.
As far a weight is concerned I'm holding my own,and will continue to go lowing carbing until I start losing again. Found a low carb bread form Pepperidge Farm that has 60 calories and only 5 net carbs. Thinking about having my daily bread but only 1 slice cut in 1/2 to make a sandwich at suppertime with 1 cup of veggies soups.
SANDRAThanks I being careful I shovel and stop every 5 mins to catch my breath.
NANCY-The road were fine it was just a matter of getting out of the complex.
RHONDA-I guess we were spoiled last year as we had a mind winter now this year its just the opposite.
SLOAN-I was very careful shoveling I just did a little at a time twice when it was snowing and than in the next morning I less than the others that didn't come out during the storm. I had my gas insert fireplace going all night and the house got up to the 80's during the power outage I sat at the kitchen table with a flashlight and played solitaire, than went to bead at 11 PM. My poor friend was so cold she had to go to bed early to keep warm.
PAULA-I really don't know about the hotels that allow animals most of then are closed until April except for the Holiday Inn and a few B&B;s in town.I'll see what I can find and will let you know.
Have to go, have a nice evening and Valentine weekend.
02-12-2010, 06:31 PM
Sloan, when I was elementary school, I used to "live" for those iced sugar cookies. I'm talking about the homemade ones that some of the mom's used to bring to parties. Wish I had one now.
Rhonda, it takes some getting used to how everything shuts down here when we get winter weather, doesn't it? I have been used to it but Curtis has been surprised more than once. Even doctors' offices tend to close. Brownies and cakes sound delish. You and Sloan are making me hungry for something sweet.
Paula, enjoy your week off--and getting your stitches out. Good timing for that, isn't it?
Nancy, enjoy your grand. We were planning to watch ours play basketball tomorrow but they aren't going to play since they're at their other grandparents this weekend. (sigh)
Ouch, Maryann! I'm glad you are on antibiotics. Infection can be dangerous. Do you ever wonder, "What next?" I know I do sometimes. (Just glad my pelvis is still where it should be.)
02-12-2010, 09:12 PM
Hey chicks! I got home around 4:30 and have talked to soooo many people. The visit with the doc went well. He told us that the type of Lymphoma that my dad has is often curable. The problem is that my dad has had diabetes for a while and has heart and kidney problems. They are under control, but it still makes it more difficult to administer chemotherapy. He will be having an echocardiogram to see if his heart is strong enough for one of the drugs. Also, next week he will have a port inserted and get some other scans then on the 25th, he will have his first round of chemo. He is in pretty good spirits right now. All in all, I think it went well. Thanks for all of your prayers and good thoughts. Now, I have a request. Can you pray specifically for a strong heart muscle and minor involvement of other lymph nodes? We want to pray specifically for exactly what he needs as we go. Thanks y'all. I love you chickies!!!!:val2:
02-12-2010, 10:09 PM
Sloan, I will be praying. I'm glad your father's spirits are up. That's important. Now you be strong and take care of yourself, too.
02-12-2010, 10:50 PM
Sloan, Sandra said it well. Me too.
I had a lot of fun baking with my 5 year old great niece today. We'll do more tomorrow. She got a little bored on the second round of cupcakes, but we'll ice them tomorrow and she can decorate them and have more fun. She's a real cutie.
We went out tonight and had Mexican food. I had steak on corn tortillas which was as restrained as I could be. Does the Margarita count?
02-12-2010, 10:59 PM
Rhonda, the margarita does not count if you were having fun while drinking it ;)
Thanks, chickies! I am resting and watching the Olympic opening ceremony as I type this.
02-13-2010, 02:12 AM
I hate Valentines Day...
12 years ago on Feb 13th at 11 pm I rushed my dad to the ER with a heart
attack and he died right after midnight. He was my hero..
He was as close to a perfect man as I have ever met.
Kind, humble, loving. He and my mom gave us a near perfect childhood.
We were poor but didn't know it.
I need to learn to embrace this day as a tribute to his love and legacy,
but I miss him so much it is hard to not just cry and be sad.
02-13-2010, 07:07 AM
Hi Chicks! I've been up all night. I took Jim shopping on Friday to get a wake/funeral outfit since he had nothing to wear. I, being the typical woman had 4 sizes in my closet. So I have two outfits that I can make do with. We got him a sportcoat, dress slacks, belt, two shirts, one tie, and an all weather top coat for $400. We shopped at Carson Pirie Scott with coupons. They had one awesome sale going on. I'm happy that is done. Now I need to try to sleep. I'm not sure what is up with me. Thankfully, I don't really have to go anywhere today.
I know that I'm hopelessly out of touch with all of you but I have been reading and am thinking of each of you.
Nancy, I understand. My fiance died 2 weeks before Christmas and my Dad died three days after my 22nd birthday. He would be thrilled that you adored him so much but I'm sure he wouldn't want you to be sad.
Sloan, I'm praying for Dad's strong heart muscle and lymph nodes with NO issues. I think you are amazing. I think your prayer focus is a great idea.
I'll be back when I can.
02-13-2010, 09:19 AM
Mornin' chicks :) Boy is my mind racing. I'm starting to think about the chemo course and its effects on my dad. My mom is an awesome care giver, but is a little bit of a weinie, so she is already looking to me (the nurse in the family) to be with them during and after the treatments. I will have to have some training sessions for my mom and three siblings!!!
Vickie, I hope you are sleeping right now. Maybe you can even take a cat nap this afternoon. When is the funeral? Oh yes, thanks for the prayers!
Nancy, embracing Valentine's day as a tribute to your dad's love and legacy is a great idea! Is there some way you could put that into action? Maybe do something for someone else in his honor or start on a mini scrapbook for each of your boys about your dad's love and legacy that focuses on how a real man shows love to those around him. Just a thought  I agree with Vickie. Your dad would not want you to be sad; he would want you to focus on how the love he had for you was an example of how you should love your family.
I'm going to try and get some projects done today in addition to the multitude of errands that I need to do. Wish me luck!!
02-13-2010, 12:43 PM
I am praying for the specific things you mentioned and also for you as you juggle
work, family and your dad's care.
I like your ideas about putting his legacy to action. I am not great about organized photos so I think I will work on an album and a DVD of mom & dad and share it with the family. My boys were 5 and 7 when he died so I need to keep their memory of him alive through stories and photos.
I hope you get some sleep. Do you have time for a power nap??
We got a pretty snow last night and I just made snow cream with my grandson .
I am taking a casserole over to a friends that had rotator cuff surgery later
02-13-2010, 06:13 PM
Nancy, it sounds to me like your father would want you to celebrate life. He sounds like a wonderful person. Cherish your memories--and celebrate his life. That said, I understand what you're saying. It was years before I could look at English pea salad without crying. That was a favorite dish of my father's.
Rhonda, you're having a great time with your great niece. That makes me smile. As to the margarita? Of course it does not count--especially if you had a 2nd for me.
Sloan, giving nursing care instructions to your family members is a great idea. Not only will it help you, but it will empower them and make them more confident.
Vickie, you got some good bargains. Sounds like Jim will be dapper. I'm ready for you to get back here. I've been missing you.
We got out today and ran some errands. We'd been holed up long enough. Eating? I'm not saying, but I do wish I'd had a margarita. I hope Rhonda had one for me.
02-13-2010, 08:45 PM
No, Sandra, you had to share mine. I had just one. But, Sloan said it didn't count, so that's a relief.
Nancy, you got some good suggestions there about your father. The month of July is a tough one for me. My husband, mother and father all died in the same month (different years, thank goodness!) It's vital to remember that those who loved us would not want us to be too sad for too long. Life is short and needs to be embraced with all the gusto we can muster.
Vickie, that sounds like some bargains. Good shopping.
So, my other great niece (11) came over today too, with her step-sister who came yesterday. They had a great time, frosting cupcakes, baking and decorating cookies. We're all ready for tomorrow, chocolate fest. I'll be good!
We're off to a play tonight.
Talk to you later.
02-13-2010, 10:35 PM
Nancy, thanks for the kind thoughts and prayers. I think making the album and dvd will mean a lot to your boys and the rest of the family. Adding the stories is a great idea! Even if you don't make a formal scrapbook, you can add written notes in with the photos to tell your stories. BTW, the snow cream sounds awesome. We have another front coming toward us, so I think I'll make some when it gets here.
Rhonda, sounds like you are having a sugar fest at your house. I know the girls are having fun. I have some great memories of my aunt's house when I was a little girl. You are making some great memories for your girls. :chef:
Sandra, I agree with you about empowering the family. My sister tried to tell me today that she didn't think she could give a shot. I told her that she better "brave up" cause she WAS going to learn. :club: I guess she doesn't know who she's dealing with! :D
Vickie, Angela, Maryann, Paula, are you all doin' okay? Hope you all are safe and warm. Nighty night!
02-13-2010, 11:05 PM
Thanks everyone...really helpful thoughts !!
Rhonda..That is so true that our loved ones would not want us too sad for too
long...very good point..
Sloan.. I think that is great for you to tell your sister to "brave up"
That is a very healthy attitude for you to have about getting everyone
to pitch in and learn.
We are going to eat at On The Border tomorrow for Valentines Day.
I already looked at the menu online and it will be hard to watch my calories there. I may just get Tortilla Soup and some guacamole .
02-13-2010, 11:32 PM
Nancy, soft corn tortillas are supposed to be lower in pts than chips. (Easy for me to say, right?)
Sloan, ya'll may be in school all summer. (just kidding) We've enjoyed our snow but are ready for normalcy to return.
Now back to the Olympics.
02-14-2010, 01:38 AM
Soft corn tortillas are one point....no butter!!!!
I told my nieces that if they were bored with the baking we could do something else. The older said "no, it's fun"..the younger one said "no, it's very, very, very much fun." Warmed my heart.
We bought a new table for the kids to eat on and to have for crafts. It has to fit the little grandsons also. The girls said it was "neat" and that the chairs were "really cool." Whew, I passed!!!
We are having chocolate chip pancakes, followed by more chocolate: 2 cakes, lots of cupcakes, and sugar cookies. Then I get to send them all home!!
02-14-2010, 12:57 PM
Went to JC today and stayed the same. Not bad with all the BP issues. I think my medicine is adjusted now. Will be having lunch soon and getting ready for the Wake tonight and funeral tomorrow.
I have several eating out occasions this week and I need to have strength as I am a stress/comfort eater. Wish me luck.
My life should be back to my own on Tuesday. I miss you all.
02-14-2010, 05:16 PM
Vickie, ;) ;) ;) for willpower. Now send me some, too, please.
02-14-2010, 09:22 PM
Sandra, we have 2 or 3 snow days left, but snow is on its way!
Nancy, how has your V day gone? Hope you took some time for some happy memories :val1:
Rhonda, you are definitely a cool aunt :cheer2:
Happy Valentine's Day, y'all :val2:
02-14-2010, 09:35 PM
Thanks, Sloan. We had a great party today and the girls were so proud of their work, telling everyone what they had done with all of the baking.
I did my personal best today on the elliptical trainer: 40 minutes! I plan to keep this going.
02-14-2010, 09:54 PM
Rhonda, your party sounds like a lot of fun. You built a lot of wonderful memories. Kudos on the exercising!
02-14-2010, 11:32 PM
Rhonda.. that sounds like something they will always remember!!
I had a nice day. Robin and I ate at On The Border and instead of the soup I decided to get my favorite and just eat half, so I think I didn't go too far over
my calories today. I brought the rest home to my son who arrived home this evening.
Robin took a fall today at church right as he went to stand up after service.
He was okay but I felt so bad for him.
My dog is older and has had 2 knee surgeries and tonight she has hurt her back leg again. I hope it will be better tomorrow. My brother is a vet so she has a
round the clock vet on call :D
Well it doesn't sound like it but we have had a nice day . LOL
02-15-2010, 08:04 AM
Love you guys! So far so good. The wake was so sad.
02-15-2010, 11:59 AM
Nancy, I hope your dog is all right. I can imagine how embarassed Robin must have felt, but tell him things like that happen to all of us. Sounds like you did well at On the Border. Good choice!
Vickie, I miss you.
02-15-2010, 12:44 PM
Good Morning Ladies
Nothing new, except I lost a pound and was surprised with all the going out to restaurants this week.I also made some chili and put it in a bread bowl for last night supper.
SANDRA-The antibiotics must be working as my cyst doesn't hurt anymore. Was lucky that doctor took me right away.
Sloan-I'm warm at toasty as we have a gas insert fireplace when the outage occurred and the down stairs the temps were in the 80's and up stairs is was in the 70's.
Nancy-Sorry about your bad feeling about Valentines Day. I went to the cemetery yesterday and put some red valentine flowers at his grave. It was sad to go there, but I manage to go.
VICKIE-You too lost some one on Feb 14th. We all take death differently, its got it bitter sweet memories.Sorry you had to go though this twice. Sending:hug::hug: you way.
RHONDA-I have a exercising question for you. I haven't been near any form of activity since Leo passed away.I like to start up again with Leslies WATP's walking tapes and would like to know, Should I start with 15 mins a day and than switch to 30,or do I stay on the 15 mins for a week than change or should I stay on for 2 weeks and than move on.TIA
Have to start my dinner.
02-15-2010, 02:08 PM
Hi everyone! I'm still here. I had a nice Valentine's Day. Dh and the girls made dinner AND cleaned up for me, while I read a book. I did have some sugar over the weekend, but it ended up making me feel pretty icky, so I'm back on the wagon now. :)
I made the mistake of taking a nap yesterday afternoon, and then couldn't fall back asleep after I got up to use the bathroom at 3 am. I think it's so unfair the sleep disturbances you have during your 3rd trimester. It would be nice to store up some sleep for the many disturbances I'll have in 2 more months! :D
I'm making a shrimp jambalaya for supper tonight, along with some cornbread.
