Morning ladies:)

Hope everyone is having a good week-almost friday:D

I having been having a stressful week but the boss is gone for 2 days so I can get some catch up work done-yay!

It just occurred to me while making lunches that I am having trouble sticking to the WOE as I am still thinking in points instead of carbs:shrug: I guess it will take some time to undo that:lol:
I am going grocery shopping this weekend to restock my pantry with SS type foods so that should help!

Well gotta go and get dressed for work:p, talk to you all later and have a great day:goodvibes (love these new smilies!)

HI!HI!HI!
A brand new thread, I'm glad. Thank you Jennifer and everyone else. It is a brand new and fresh start.
I love all these new smiley faces. How cute are these?
Mauvaisroux, aren't sack lunches hard? I always make extra at supper. I still can't seem to figure out how to cook for just 2 people. So I send leftovers with the old man for his lunch. He is so easy to please and will eat anything I send with him. He is not a bit dessert guy, but does love ice cream, so I'm happy I have a new ice cream maker to make legal ice cream at home.
I tossed out all my illegal stuff when I started, even dressings, ketchup and soy sauce. I've been making my own and have a great recipe for French Dressing if anyone wants it. If you do, I'll post it over in the recipe section. I don't know why I didn't think to post over there before.
Well, I missed you guys and need you. Talk to you all later and stay legal!:judge:
Really like this smiley:grouphug: I saw if on Mavaisroux's thread I think and it is so right for us.
Later, Nikki

This has been an awful SS week for me. I'm sure I have gained back some, if not all of the 3 lb. I lost last week, and I'm afraid to get on the scale. Today is another day.!

One problem I am having is that I think I'm getting tired of eating eggs in the morning. For some reason, I'm starting to gag as they're going down. Have any of you any good ideas as what to have for a pro/fats breakfast, other than eggs? I have been eating shredded wheat just about every morning this week. I will have bacon & eggs one morning over the weekend, just to see how it goes.

mauvaisroux, when I worked outside the home, I loved it when my boss was away:dance: Hope you get caught up on your work.

nikkic, please post your French Dressing recipe. Also, in one of your posts, I believe, you mentioned you had coleslaw one night. Could you post your coleslaw dressing recipe if you have one, also? DH & I love coleslaw, but the bottled dressing has sugar in it. Thanks.

Take care and have a great day!

I will post them both Aleka. As for breakfast, I'm not always up for eggs, although I don't mind them. What I've been doing lately is a little different. I found that I don't feel so hungry in the am but am starving in the evening. So, since I only have to cook for Dh and myself and really only once for him, I have been eating small meals throughout the day, like 5 or 6 meals. For breakfast, I juice a couple of oranges or eat a piece of fruit once or twice a week. If I want to stay pro/fat, I'll eat some cheese and some homemade summer sausage that I make (If you want that recipe, I'll post it too, it's easy and delicious). In fact a lot of times, I'll have a salad for breakfast or something you would normally think of as lunch or dinner food (leftovers from yesterday). I know it's not breakfast food, but hey I'm a grown up and I make my own decisions. I have a great husband and when he comes home from work in the morning, he usually has a bowl of his favorite-Sugar Frosted Flakes. So I don't really worry about feeding him. I worry about what he's eating, but that's his decision. I couldn't throw out Tony's flakes, DH would never forgive me! Anyway, that's what I've been doing lately.
Speaking of gagging, when I was a kid, we had eggs over easy every morning. I hated them, so much. I would cut off the white and put the yellow part in my mouth, then run to the bathroom and spit it out in the toilet. Then I'd swallow the whites so fast, it was one gulp and they were down. I don't know why my folks never figured that trick out. I can eat them now and I like them, but it took years to get over that aversion to eggs I had as a kid.
I'm going to go post those recipes now.
Later, Nikki

Aleka, think outside of the box!

Breakfast does not have to be bacon and eggs. I often eat a pork chop or a hamburger patty. My favorite is a spinach quiche. I love making ahead. I use frozen spinach (drained), eggs, and cheese. I make a large batch on the weekend and heat up a piece each morning. I could never choke down just plain eggs every morning. I do this in a large skillet.

Hi Alice, we drink protein drinks fro breakfast, but I don't know where the fat would come in. In one of our grocery stores here, the have frozen pour a queche (sp) It comes in a container like milk. What I do is thaw it out and cook it in muffin tins. Then just pull out a couple and nuke then to eat. I know it's still eggs, but it is different. It also comes in four or 5 different flavors.

Also will someone post one of the SS legal ice cream recipies.

Thanks

hey girls have you tried the faux cream of wheat?? it is made with riccotta cheese, and (eggs) but tastes ots like custard or the rice pudding with cottage cheese? that also makes a delishious breakfast when eggs just do not to the trick. one think i love isd my eggs soft boiled with cereal in it likew fiber one. that makes it taste like it is on toast. and like dondar said think out side of the box eat meat!!

Evening everyone!

Well I had a pretty good day at work today and tomorrow is Friday:D

I did pretty good today as far as plan goes.

I can't wait to do a proper grocery shop on Saturday although I know I will drive DH nuts by reading the labels on everything:dizzy:

In answer to your breakfast question- I usually eat cereal in the morning and that is most of my carbs for the day. On Saturday and Sunday I have Cheese and mushroom omelets or scrambled eggs (no milk).

 I have an egg story too.
I hate egg white:p When I was a kid my baby sitter always made sunnyside up eggs. To me it was like eating raw egg, wet, slimy etc. After my second attempt at eating eggs this way I tried to tell her I wanted my eggs scrambled. She was Italian and didn't speak much english so I finally just told her I didn't like eggs:lol:
To this day I can't eat egg white, not even hardboiled, they have to be so scrambled that everything is yellow or they have to be in the form of an omelet-egg trauma:yikes:

I am off to Montreal again tomorrow so I won't be able to post.

Hope you all have a great day and I will talk to you on Saturday:)

Thank you all for being so helpful with all of your "eggless" breakfast suggestions. I will check out Nasus's recipes for breakfast. The faux cream of wheat sounds delicious, as I actually do like cream of wheat!

mauvaisroux, have a great time in Montreal. I hear that it's a beautiful city. DH & I went on a trip to Quebec a few years ago and I absolutely LOVED everything about it, until I heard about how much snow they get:fr: :yikes:  I loved how the main part has been kept through the centuries. I usually eat shredded wheat weekday mornings, then on weekends have my eggs. But, I was trying to limit the days I had cereal, to 2-3, and that's when the eggs started getting to me.

ANNE D, glad to see your post. Have a great weigh in day.

Barb, what is the name of the protein drink you have in the morning? On this WOE you don't have to worry too much about fat, but since I do have to be careful, I usually use low fat cheeses and meat, so the fat content in the protein shake should be ok. I will look in my grocery store to see if they carry that pour a quiche. I don't mind eggs if they are in something else, but eating them alone with bacon is starting to get to me. I am happy to see by your posts that Alvin is doing well. That must've been some scare. How are your knees doing?

nikkic, thanks for the sausage & salad dressings recipe. Have you been able to find sugar free ketchup? I haven't found any yet, but I do have a recipe from the SS site for it, and I also have a lo-carb cookbook with a recipe for ketchup. Where would you find liquid smoke?

DonDar, when I mentioned having hamburgh patties for breakfast, DH' eyes lit up!! I will definitely give it a try some morning

Again, thank you for all your suggestions. Everyone have a great weekend.:cb: :dancer: :chockiss:

Hi everyone!
Anne, I'm glad your here. I was wondering if you were going to come back. Are you still using your Gazelle? I want to get one, but want to know if a person gets bored doing it or if you don't mind it.

Mauvaisroux, love your new picture, you look stunning!:queen:
Have a good time in the big city.

Aleka keep up the good work. Thank you so much for posting the Mock Potato Salad recipe. I found it right when I was boiling eggs and had a head of cauliflower. I was going to make a cauliflower salad, with mayo, parmesan cheese and bacon, but we're getting kind of tire of that one. I made the Mock P Salad and we had it for supper last night, it was really good.

The camping trip has been exciting so far. Last night there was a storm and the winds were clocked at 70mph. We got 2 inches of rain officially, but the cup holders that were out there had 3-4 inches in them.:rain: At 2am, we were outside, taking down the awning on the camper. Well, we're no worse for wear. The mosquitos are out in full force and we've been putting on repellant like mad.

I will have to look up the faux cream of wheat. I kind of miss that. It's funny, I would never eat it normally, but when you can't have something, you sure would like to have it all of a sudden. I am not missing potatoes. I think that is really strange, I have always loved them and could eat them 3 times a day. They are getting so expensive anyway, their not the budget stretcher that they use to be. My biggest thing that I love and will miss is Jasmine rice. I love the smell of that stuff and even love the taste. So far I've not had any real cravings for anything, and I hope I don't.

Talk to you all later,
Nikki

Hi Everyone:wave:
Nikkic, I have been so bad about my gazelle this last week:(
If my weigh in goes bad tomorrow I will know why.
I love my gazelle, but I have to set a time to do it each day.
A couple of years ago I lost 50 pounds working out on it!
My goal for next week is to do five out of seven days. I will let
you know how I progress with that goal.:)
I am so glad I am home. I have one witchy boss  So I am
grateful for two days respite.
Tonight I am having beef patties with cesar salad. I love it!
Still can't beleive this is a weight loss program.
Have any of you folks heard this water story thats going around?
Anne.

Hi, came home to feed the cats. We had a great supper last night. DH says that the steaks were the best he's eaten in his life and I agree. I cooked them over the fire and put some seasoning salt on them, it's a legal one. His brother gave us some beautiful tomatoe's and we had the last of the Mock Potato Salad. It was wonderful.

Anne, I never watch the news or read a paper. I haven't heard of the water story. What is it? I find the news so depressing or I just get so angry, so I just quit. DH usually keeps me up to date on anything I really need to know.

the great food we enjoy on this diet:cheese: Much to my

Morning everyone:wave:

I am so tired this morning:yawn: two late nights in a row, I think I am getting too old for this:lol:

So much for low carbing it:rolleyes: I ate a huge plate on Pad Thai in Friday, no wait, make that Saturday morning at 2 am:eek: after leaving the night club in Montreal. I got home at 5 am on Saturday morning:yikes:

Well at least I finally got the grocery shopping done, lots of fresh fruit and veggies. We went to Costco and stocked up on meat and chicken for the freezer. Today I have to pickup some decaf tea and coffee and some wholewheat crackers that are legal. I finally found some salsa that was sugar free-Yay! I am almost set to go into full Somercise mode.

Nikkic-how did the rest of your camping trip go? Your steak dinner sounded delicious:T My DH's eyes lit up when I said we could eat steak, cheese and salami on this Woe. His first comment was great and we're not buying any of that low-fat crap today either (loud enough for the whole grocery aisle to hear )

AnneD-how did your weigh in go? Did you manage to get back on the Gazelle? (Nag! Nag! Nag! :) ) I haven't heard of the water story either-please post.

Aleka- I have been to Quebec city too, it is very beautiful. Montreal is great, it has a lot of old buildings that have been maintained or restored. Very lively street life too, lots of street level shopping and cafes. It is great just to wander up and the down the streets checking everything out.

Must run- I am going out for the afternoon with my parents and DH.

Have a great day:)

Congratulations Anne! Way to go on those 4 pounds:cb:

Question? Can any of you reccomend a whole wheat bread that is not made with sugar, glucose, fructose, sucrose, molasses, or honey? I must have looked at 10 different brands yesterday:dizzy: and couldn't find a thing!

Also crackers were another thing that were difficult to find. All the wholewheat ones contained some form of sugar and the one brand I did find called "Stoned Wheat" turned out to be made of enriched wheat with cracked wheat in it and not wholewheat at all. What's a low-carb gal to do:shrug: I just gave up.
Oh, and it took me 10 minutes just to find a store bought spaghetti sauce with all natural in gredients and no sugar-grrr:mad:

Hi, back in town to pick up my daughter from work. I spend so little time at the campground, I may as well stay home.
:) I'm happy for you Anne. It feels good to make progress doesn't it?
I am gaining again, up a few pounds. It could be that I'm not exercising and it could be I'm paying for that whiskey earlier this week.
I was very interested in the water story, Anne. I said about the same thing a couple of weeks ago on the ss website and boy did I get a lot of people stirred up. I guess you shouldn't talk about water to other people either, it isn't pc. A lot of them are drinking 100 oz. a day. I can't do that, I'd be incontinent. When I worked as a nurse, I saw a lot of water intox people. We really had to limit their water intake. It upsets your body chemistry so badly to drink too much. Mostly people were psychotic, delusional and manic. I'm sure they were drinking more than 100 oz a day, shoot, they'd drink out of the toilet if you didn't watch them. It seemed the more they drank, the thirstier they got. If your body fluids become too dilute, you really get screwed up. I think it is best to drink when your body tells you too and not to try to chug down lots of water. Well, that's my 2 cents. I quit trying to talk about it over there, they were almost militant about the water thing. I guess each to his own, but I can't wait til the water study is done. People need to know that too much of a good thing is not always good.
Well, got to go, talk to you later, take care, Nikki

aleka
08-26-2002, 08:06 AM
I hope you all enjoyed your weekend. Last week was not a very good SS week for me, and it continued into the weekend. I got on the scale this morning, and thankfully didn't gain anything. :faint: It's back to SSzing today.

BTW I see that on Sat. Aug. 31st, Suzanne will be on CNN at 8:30 am est., I believe to talk about her WOE. I hope I remember to put a tape in to watch it later on.

nikkic, it sounded like you were having such a good time, when it wasn't raining:rain:  , it's a shame you won't be going back to the campground. Some people do gain after losing weight on this WOE, and some people gain before they start losing. If you continue to gain, omit what you think may be the cause, and see what happens. That is very interesting what you observed at the hosp. with people drinking too much water. I saw another article that said if you did drink a lot of water, it could help prevent bladder & colon cancer. There is just so much information out there, you don't know who to believe.:?: Ya, I find some of the people on SS site a bit preachy.

mauvaisroux, one of the breads I've seen that a lot of SSzers talk about is Ezekial (sp?) bread. I found it in the freezer case in the health food section of my supermarket. If your supermarket has a healthfood section, you may find it there, if not, maybe a healthfood store may have it. Trying to find the right type of food is the only thing I dislike about this WOE. I still haven't found any legal pasta sauce. I live in a rural area and I have one grocery store to go to, and that's 10 miles away. So, I just do the best I can. I haven't found any crackers at all.

ANNE D, congratulations on losing 4 lb. that's fantastic! :cb :cp: :dancer: Good luck on your gazelle this week. I went to that site about the water. I cannot drink that much water. If I drink water on an empty stomach, sometimes I get stomach pains, and I feel all bloated. I've read some articles that only water counted, nothing else. Then I read in different diet books that other beverages counted, except for coffee. Now according to that article, coffee counts too. YAY!!! :hat:

I'm off for my walk now. I hope you all have a great Monday! Aleka

Hi Everyone:wave:
I don't over drink the water myself. I would be running to the
bathroom at work all day!!
I have about 6 tall glasses spaced out through the day but after
reading that article I might cut myself down to four.
Mauvaisroux, as a fellow Canadian, we don't have the greatest
selection when it comes to finding the foods we need in the
grocery store. I keep hearing about "pork rinds" do you think
I could find these anywhere? They have zero carbs. I finally
found a brand of salad dressing that in legal on our program.
Paul Newman has a couple that tast great.:T
Well tonights the night. I am going to set that gazelle up right
now, no more excuses!!:strong: I don't know about you guys

Evening everyone!:)

Well I broke down today and had a cheese tea biscuit:rolleyes:
But I did have a good breakfast. I made the chicken and leeks recipe from SS "Eat Great, Lose Weight" for supper tonight-it was delicious:T and really simple to make. DH and I really enjoyed it although next time I will cut the recipe in half as we now have enough chicken for two more meals, oh well it won't go wrong!

ANNE- I bought the Classico brand of pasta sauce, the roasted garlic and onion flavor, it was the only one that didn't have sugar in it. I've had it before and it tastes pretty good. I just add chopped veggies to it to fill it out. I got it at Loblaws.
DH just told me that "pork rinds" are deep fried pork skin:p and that they come in a chip type bag and look like onion rings and can be found in the chip aisle at the grocery store. They sound gross but I will try anything once:shrug: Which Paul Newman dressing did you get?

Aleka-thanks for the tip about CNN, I will try to tape it/watch it.
I will look for that Ezekial bread too. The only thing I have found is an oatbran bread but I was at 2 different stores and they were both sold out.

nikkic-I know what you mean about that other site. I have read some of the posts but haven't really got around to posting anything myself. I live the vibe over here better :goodvibes
But they do have some useful information. Too bad you didn't get to spend more time at the campground but there is a three day weekend coming up...

Oh, Nikki's story about steak reminded me of a breakfast idea for you, Aleka. When I was a teenager, I used to go to this steakhouse with my parents. Dad was always a good tipper, so this one waitress would always give us way more food than we were supposed to get. I don't know if it was for the tips or if she had a crush on Dad! Anyway, we always ordered tenderloin steaks. There would be so much left over that we always managed to get a whole steak and baked potato in a doggie bag.

The next morning, we would slice the cold potato and steak real thin, and stir fry it with black pepper, onion and mushrooms and scrambled eggs. It was so good! You could make the same without the potato (and the eggs if they still bother you) and it would be wonderful.

aleka
08-27-2002, 07:47 AM
Last night for supper we had steak cooked on the GF grill, broccoli cauliflower mix, tossed with some creamy italian salad dressing, a mix of green and yellow beans with some grated Parm. cheese.

Jennifer, my mouth is watering reading about the steak, that sounds delicious, and the eggs would not bother me that way:T I just had a thought, I could toss some grated cheese into that. HMMMM. I used to love left over boiled potatoes fried the next morning. But, I haven't had a potato is so long, I don't miss them. Thank you for that suggestion.

mauvaixroux, I use the pork rinds for meatloaf instead of bread crumbs, and I also use it for frying sliced turkey breasts. They don't have a strong taste, but when you open the bag, they have a rather strong smell:yikes: . It almost turned me off on them, but I figured I'd give them a try, and I'm glad I did. The only pasta sauce I have found is a brand called Boves, which is made in Vermont and it only has 2 gm of sugar, but it has oil, which is a no-no to put on pasta, but I can't find much else. It's very hard to find a fat free, sugar free pasta sauce. I use the Paul Newman's dressing. I use the Ceaser dressing and Parmesiano Italiano (my favorite). I don't know if they are legal, but I love them.

We're still camping, will be there til next Saturday. I came home real quick to get some cooking stuff.
Poor Anne, I use to have a real witch of a boss and I know how that can make the work place just suck. At least you have a vacation to look forward to. When can you retire? I hope it's soon.
Will write more tomorrow. Have to go make a turkey breast. I bought one of those showtime rotesserie (sp?) things and that's what I'm using. I will not be posting for a few days, our computer is acting up. DH called computer shop, talked with 2 guys. One said it could be a fan overheating, and another one said it could be the hard drive. :?:

ANNE D, what an awful boss you have. You would think that since you've been working there for so long that she would give you the time off. Well, at least you'll be away from your boss when you are on vacation:cb: :cp: :dancer: How did it go on your gazelle?

nikkic, glad to see that you are still camping. It's nice that you're so close to home that you can go back and cook. I've seen those rotisseri (sp)? grills on TV. I really think that guy buys all of Sunday. It seems no matter what time I'm flipping through channels, he's on at least 3 or 4 different channels.

mauvaixroux, as far as getting legal food, sometimes you just have to do the best you can. For me, it's the lowest possible amt. of sugar in something. You might not find the odor of the pork rinds that bad, I have an allergy to perfumes, pot pourri, etc., and sometimes smells are stronger to me than to somebody else. I know my DH was kind of skeptical when I ground up the pork rinds, but he didn't mind them a bit. They don't seem to be overpowering.

If I don't post for the rest of the week, I hope everyone has a good week, and a safe and happy holiday weekend. Aleka

I have countless meetings at David's school, doctors appts
galore, I get nothing but hassles from this lady. She is 54
single, and gay. In her particular case I don't think she understands motherhood. I know not all gay people are like
that, but this lady has made our lives hell on earch. She has
only worked in our place since January.

Nikkic, I am 45, I have been working at St. Michael's Hospital since
I was 18 so I have another 7 or so years left until I retire:cry:
I couldn't sleep all night.

Jennifer: The gazelle is fabulous. I can't recommend it enough.
It is easy to do, easy on all joints, knees, back, its just great,
like I said I am 45 and 250 big ones and I can do it without any
difficulty.

Mauvaisroux, what store did you find the pork rinds in? We use
the classico tomato and garlic sauce when we make a side dish
using zucchini and mozzerella cheese. Because of the oils it
only can be used with pro fats.

Aleka: It must be going around!! we had to reset our computer
it has been as slow as a turtle.

Talk to you later everyone, Have a great day.

Hi, came home to do stuff and the computer sucked me into cyberspace.
Anne, I'm 45 too and weigh 268, lost nine lbs so far.
I also have a daughter that is disabled. She is a schizophrenic. When she was 16 it started and for 4 years we went through hell. It was Drs. and hospitals and lots of misdiagnosis'. She was so over medicated and it was such a nightmare. She spent her 18th birthday in a seclusion room talking to a wall. It broke my heart. Finally, we found the right psychiatrist and went to the right hospital. They put her on her current medication and it helped alot. We never thought she would be able to move out on her own or hold a job. But she does now. It took a lot of work and support from her family. She is pretty much back to where she use to be, but I still see flashes of it now and then. I have to take her to work and to the store, because she can't drive. It makes her so anxious to try to do it. It's been hard and I can't imagine what you are going through. I understand a little about it from my own experience. I know you need more support than your getting. I had such a hard time at work. I took a lot of time off and finally I had to tell them what was going on. I begged them not to tell anyone else, because mental illness is not an acceptable thing to have, even in this day and age. Everybody thinks schizophrenics are killers and weirdo's.
Maybe your boss won't last too long. I out waited mine and she eventually got another job. She was trying to have me fired, because she said I was incompetent. The next boss that came along gave me a raise, so things can turn around.
I'll be thinking of you. I hope you have a better day today and that your vacation is a restful, fun one.

Well, the rotessarie made a great turkey breast last night. I really think that the oven works just as well though, I mean heat is heat the only difference is the meat is spinning around. It's great for camping though, I set it outside and it doesn't heat up the camper.

I get the pork rinds at Walmart next to the potato chips. The walmart brand is cheaper than Old Dutch Brand. I use my food processor to grind them up, it makes them finer than a rolling pin.

Well the old man is home, so I have to get busy. Talk to you all later and take care, Nikki

I thought I'd get on the scale and see what kind of damage I've done this week. I've lost 17 lbs total since starting! I can't believe it, but it's true. I've been eating miracle fluff everyday, sometimes 2 x's a day and it hasn't hurt. Neither has the whiskey that I had the other day, so I'm really happy.
Just had to let you guys know. I can't believe this woe works so well. I never feel deprived and I'm satisfied when I eat. Yippy! Nikki

17 pounds!!!:cb: :cp:
You must be so happy!! I was sorry to read about your
daughter, but I am happy to here she is on the right
medication. My son's drugs are not doing him too much
good. We lose a few nights of sleep a week but I think
the worst part of his disorder is his self injurious behaviors.
He bites himself, bangs his head, and can scream and cry for
hours on end. Last year at school he put his head through
a glass window!! He looks normal so people find him very
strange indeed. I had a high fever and strep throat in my
first trimester. I think that is what caused the damage.

So Nikkic, how long ago did you start SS. I think this diet is
great and I have confidence it is really going to work for all
of us!!!:goodvibes
Talk to you later:)

Good evening everyone!:)

"cb" whoohoo! way to go nikkic!:cb: 17lbs that is great! Keep up the good work!

Well, I hate to say this to but the worst job experiences I have had have mostly involved women supervisors  my mom says the same thing after having worked in a bank for 20 years, although my best job experience was with a woman who owned her own business and was amazing, down to earth and kind hearted.
I thought of her as my mentor and stayed in that job for alsmost 10 years! we still kept in touch afterwards too.

You are right that people don't understand unless they have children themselves. I don't have children but I can imagine that is an all-consuming full time job on top of a job outside the home.
I find it weird that mental illness is still socially unacceptable considering the amount of problems people have these days and that a lot of people suffer from depression. I know so many people on of medication for some kind of disorder or another.

Hi Aleka- I guess we will hear from you in a day or two:)

Hi,
I'm back home, waiting to pick my daughter up from work. Anne, you are so brave. I hope they find the right meds for your son. I never thought they would for my daughter, but finally they did. She still has intrusive thoughts and needs a lot of emotional support. We talk on the phone at least once a day and usually she comes over every other day, besides seeing her when I take her places. She's 25 now, so I guess it will always be this way.

I started this woe on Aug. 8th. I've kept a journal, not a very good one, but I record my weight and what I eat on occasion.
I try to start my day with positive affirmations and end it that way. I'm not feeling deprived at all. I'm an overeater, and so I have to really think about when I'm full and not eat so fast. DH says when we first started seeing each other, he couldn't believe how fast I ate. It's like I'm starved and can't get it in fast enough. That's what is so great about this woe, I never feel starved. I think the carbs from potato chips and bread make you want to eat more, because they never satisfy your hunger. I could eat a whole bag of chips and a container of dip, then go eat a bowl of ice cream in 1/2 an hour. I'm sure this fast weight lose is going to level off and slow down, but it is encouraging now.

Well we invited a couple and their kids for supper tomorrow night. I spent most of the day making salads and almost gave in a got potato salad for them, then decided not too. Its a good thing cause they said they can't make it, now. So we will be eating coleslaw, cucumber salad, deviled eggs, miracle fluff and watermelon for at least a week. I kept the meal all ss and boy am I glad.

Well talk to you all tomorrow.
Nikki

Hi Everyone!!
Just one more day until the weekend arrives!!:dizzy:
I have been adhering to the program. Tonight I ate
chicken breast, coleslaw, veggies with butter. It was wonderful.
Do any of you ladies eat in the evening? I always feel alittle
nervous to have a bed time snack but I often do anyways!;)
Usually I eat chunks of cheese and maybe alittle salami.
I am amazed that meats like salami and pepperoni are allowed.

I am really looking forward to this week off!! I have not had
any vacation time yet this year, although I do get 6 weeks
vacation.

I will be glad to get life back on routine again, kids in school
cooler weather, to be honest autumn is my favorite time of year.

My husband and I are going to see The Who in September and
The Rolling Stones in October , then when November comes
along we will be celebrating my parents 50th wedding anniversay.

Hello everyone!

Hope you all had a great day:)

I'm surprised that salami is allowed too as I have read that it is one of the worst things to eat, well in the low fat school of thinking anyway. I usually have a little cheese at night as a snack too.

Hope you have a great week off Anne. I can't wait for 5 pm Friday!

nikkic-you sound like you are doing really well OP. That was great planning your meal around SS even with guests coming.

Hi Aleka- hope you are doing well too!

I have to run-we are going to a Japanese restaurant for a friends's birthday, I have no idea what I will be able to eat there:rolleyes: guess I will at least skip the rice:lol:

Hi everyone,
Anne, I am so green:p with envy. I want to see the Stones, but we never go to any concerts. Dh hates crowds and so it's out of the question.
We went to a Mexican restaurant tonight. You'd think it would be easy to get something there, no. I said I wanted the entree with no tortilla and no guacamole, and to put it on a bed of lettuce. Well, it was a lot smaller portion than usual and they didn't give me any cheese. So I asked for cheese and I got the cheese sauce. After I ate almost all of it, I thought, this is probably thickened with flour. Well too late, I ate it all. I think I'll just say to leave off the guac next time and take the tortilla off myself. I have yet to go to a restaurant and get anything decent ss'ed.
Well, supper was tasty, just small.
Talk to you tomorrow, Nikki

The computer is up and running again. It only took them 1 day to fix the tower, it was the hard drive. Then yesterday I was on the computer when the moniter died :censored: :censored: :bomb:
DH took the moniter to the computer shop and came home with a brand new one. I hope we can get through today without having something else go wrong with it.:stress:

nikkic, congratulations on 17 lb. That's fantastic!!!:cb: :cp: I'm so sorry about your D. It must be very hard on you and your DH. I'm glad that she's doing ok through her medication. That would be a good idea the next time you go to a Mexican Rest. to just take everything out of the tortilla. It's a lot easier and you usually get what you want. It seems whenever I ask if they can do a special request, they get totally confused. In some restaurants where I don't care for the way they cook their vegetables, I'll order a salad, then a baked potato, (because I don't like restaurant baked potatoes and I know I won't eat it), along with my meat. It just seems easier because I don't have to explain anything.

ANNE D, autumn is my favorite time of year too. October is my favorite month. I just love everything about fall. Have your leaves started to turn yet? That's great you have 6 weeks vacation. Do you have a lot of trouble trying to take them when you want? My cousin is an RN in a large hospital, she's been at the same hospital for 30 yrs. or so and has to fight tooth and nail to get the weeks off that she wants. Have a great week off!! Pamper yourself. I usually eat sugar free jello, which we can have. If you eat it without whipped cream you can eat it with any type meal, but if you put whipped cream on it, it can only be eaten after a Pro/Fat meal. I did notice that on the SS website.

mauvaisroux, how did you do at the Japanese rest.? I hope you all had a good time for your friend' birthday.

Take care and have a great holiday weekend. Aleka

HI everyone,
Anne, I hope I don't offend anyone here, but I hate rap. I must feel the same way my folks use to about rock and roll. I don't understand rap and when I have tried to listen to it, it seems like it is so hateful towards women. That turns me off right there. I do like any other kind of music. In fact, my DD and I were listening to the radio the other day and I liked a new song, but it was by Sting, so I don't know if that counts:rolleyes: I can't imagine the Stones will do to many more concerts, your so lucky to see them.
Aleka, I can't get close to a potato. I love potatoes and use to eat them several times a day. Same for corn. I use to have corn for snack food. It has been kind of hard not eating it, since this is Iowa and the sweet corn is sold on ever corner practically now. I always thought if I could only have 2 things to eat the rest of my life, potatoes and corn would be the only things I'd need. Oh well, I will have them again someday, just not for awhile.
I've lost 2 more lbs. I have to get a better scale, I don't know if I believe this one. Anyway, started at 274, now 255. When I get down to 250, I'm ordering that gazelle like thing from qvc. At this rate, that would be next week. :hat:
The picnic is back on for tonight with our friends and their children. I bought some hamburger and buns for them and I guess I'll give in and have chips too. I hate doing that, I am sure I can resist, I've got a lot of legal food to fill up on. Now that the scale is moving down, it's really easy to stay legal. I love seeing that downward trend!
Well, got to get busy and cut up some veggies. Dh got up early, at 530am and I couldn't sleep after that. I went to bed at 2am so I am tired. He has now gone back to bed for a nap.
Take care everyone, oh and Anne, your boss is a
:ink:
 Nikki
P.S. As far as snacks at night goes, I've been eating anything that is legal. I've practically been living on that Miracle Fluff. It's sugarfree jello, heavy cream, cream cheese and vanilla. If you want the recipe, just say. I eat it almost every night right before bed. I feel so guilty. Suzanne says in the faq it doesn't matter when you eat. I think it is hard to go for hours through the night with nothing for your stomach to do but growl. I love this woe!

Hi everyone,
We just brought our camper and our tired old butts back to town. It was a great trip, beautiful weather and we both had a great time. It is hot and humid today, with a high of 90 something and then a big storm tonight, so it's good we got home early. The old man is in bed taking a nap. He has to go back to work tonight, so I'm glad he can sleep.
Hey, last night I made some really great chili, I think it is the best I've ever tasted. I posted it in the entrees section, if you want to check it out. There are no beans, but mushrooms to substitute for them. At first I thought it would be kind of gross with mushrooms, but it's really good. I made the recipe up as I went.
They are restructuring the ss website and it will be down for 2 weeks after the 16th. If you want any recipes from there, I now have 4 notebooks full. I still can't figure out how to save them to a folder in the computer. I've been doing what everyone says, but it isn't working. Anyway, everything that is on their website will be erased, which is too bad, they have a lot of great recipes on their threads.
Hope you all are having a great weekend.

I actually managed to get some rest this weekend :D
I think I was suffering from too much to do syndrome for the past few weeks.

I was reading a magazine today and there was an article on food allergies and weight loss. Two of the three items mentioned were wheat and sugar. I am still having trouble weaning myself of tea with sugar in it  so I am making that my mission this week.

The miracle fluff sounds yummy:T I am going to try making it next weeekend. That chilli sounds good too!

Hi everyone,
Anne, I'm happy for you. It feels good to lose! I have gained some, it's my TOM and I am bloated and feeling sore. I hope this extra weight goes away as fast as it came.
Mauvaisroux, I'm sorry your feeling bad:( I hope your feeling better soon. I quit using sugar in my tea years ago, so did DH. Now we can't stand sweet tea. When you get use to it, it is so refreshing. Sweet tea is so, I can't think of the right word, thick or not as refreshing anyway.
I went to the chiropractor today. I woke up at 3am with a stabbing pain in my neck. He says that I've blown a disk in my cervical region. I feel better since I saw him. He also told me something I thought was interesting, I don't know if I believe it or not. He says there is new research that supports the idea that taking 800 mg. of Motrin a day will stop or even reverse the effects of Alzehiemers. I haven't heard that, have any of you? Of course, I don't read the papers or watch the news. I do know that taking ibuprofen everyday is hard on your stomach and liver. It would be great if it really helps people.
Well, I've rambled on plenty long enough. Bye for now, Nikki

Jennifer, sure you can start another thread. You don't have to mind your own beeswax. Thank you for offering.

mauvaisroux, I hope that you are feeling better. It isn't fun when you're sick with the flu. The only good thing is that you tend to lose weight.:)

ANNE D, congratulations on losing another 2 lb. That's fantastic.:flow2:

nikkic, I have never heard of the Motrin helping to prevent Alzheimers. Did you look it up on the internet to see? I do know a family member of mine is in the first stage of Alzheimers, but nobody has said that the Dr. has put them on ibuprofen. That is interesting. I am going to make the Miracle Fluff tonight.

I have been on Premarin for the last 9 yrs. following a hysterectomy. My Dr. is now weaning me off of it. Because I seem to have a hard time losing weight, she said that Premarin could be hindering my weight loss, and/or that I'm not eating enough. So, we'll see what happens. Let the mood swings begin:eek:

Evening everyone!:)

I am feeling a bit better and made it in to work today, though I was dragging my heels somewhat:rolleyes: I just wanted to stay home in bed:cloud9: and hide out from the world.

Anne and Aleka- they say it gets harder to lose weight when you get older as your metabolism has changed or is in the process of changing. Hang in there though as you will reap health benefits for the future if you take care of yourselves now. That is one of the main reasons I decided I was going to lose weight and change my lifestyle and eating habits. Now if only I could improve my sleeping habits:yawn:

I was reading a health and fitness magazine today and all the ads, articles and recipes were all low-fat this and low-fat that.
I'm am having a hard time getting out of that mind set and accepting the fact that I can eat things that were previously
taboo :nono:

Hey did anyone end up watch that spot on CNN with Suzanne Somers? I missed it as I had friends visiting from out of town and forgot to tape it.

Nikkic-hope you are feeling better today:)

Jennifer-you can start a new thread if you want to or one of us can . Maybe we should start a new one every Monday so that they are easier to read. BTW how do I find all those low-carb recipes that we had. I have gone to the recipe section here and a recipe is there one day and gone the next :?:

Mauvaisroux, I LOVE that name! That is not at all what I thought it would mean. I think a Monday thread is a good idea.
I am not sure why you can't find recipes? There aren't enough added on there that I think it would be pushing it back to another page so soon. Why don't you try the Search function at the top of the page and try and find it that way. If you tell me what you are looking for, I can help you find it.

Anne, can you post the cheese puff recipe? That sounds interesting. I have 'cheese cracker' recipe if you are interested. I haven't tried it but supposedly is good for dipping, etc. Congrats on 2 more pounds!

09-05-2002, 07:36 AM
mauvaisroux, I too LOVE your name! I'm glad that you are feeling better. I seem to stay within the same 4 lb. range. My Dr. suggested that I keep track of my calories. So, I did yesterday. Before I had my Miracle Fluff I was just over 1,000 calories. I honestly don't know how to calculate the calories from the Miracle Fluff. I do know this is a very healthy way of eating because all my blood work came back excellent. I was kind of concerned about my glucose because my Dad had diabetes, I was happy to see the numbers. So....I'll just keep plugging along.

Jennifer, I would love to have your recipe for cheese crackers. They sound YUMMY:T

ANNE D, I know what you mean about feeling guilty eating this type of food. I have some of pneuman's recipes that I haven't tried. I should go into his recipes and copy more, but there are so many that it overwhelms me sometimes. Did you copy all of them? I copied the Corn Bread recipe and Foccacia (sp?) recipe from SS site. I'm dying to make these. Those cheese puffs sound interesting.

nikkic, I made that Miracle Fluff yesterday. It's AWESOME!:T It makes a lot. I used the cherry jello. I do have some strawberry and raspberry jello also, so once this is gone I will make another batch. It was so rich and creamy I actually felt guilty eating it. :sorry:

It's getting light out, so it's time to go for my walk. I'm having lunch and a shopping spree with a GF so have to walk off my calories beforehand;) Take care and enjoy your day.

Nikki- way to go on those 24 lbs-good for you! :cp:

Anne-I know what you mean about the WOE, it is hard to rethink everything we have been told about low-fat.

I was reading a magazine article the other day (yes I read too much:rolleyes: ) and they were trashing low-carb, high protein diets. People seem to think that every low-carb diet tells people they can eat any amount of fatty proteins and creamy sauces that they want to and that you should have steak and eggs for breakfast everyday.

I don't recall anyone advocating a protein and fat free-for-all in place of carbs:?: I think the Woe we are on involves sensible eating. Sorry that I am on my :soap: but all these articles are starting to bug me :bomb:. I feel like an eating plan pariah or something:lol: Pardon my venting, I will shut up now:tape:and go to bed.

I honestly don't know who these "experts" are. I had lunch with a GF yesterday we started talking about losing weight, and I told her that I was following SS plan. She told me just to call it Atkins. I told her that it was nothing like Atkins, and that you could eat carbs, it was just you had to eat differently. She doesn't believe in this WOE, and that's ok.:soap:

Jennifer, to get to Pneuman's recipes on the SS site, when you come to the FORUM page, scroll down until you come to RECIPE SUGGESTIONS, click onto that, scroll down and you will see pneuman's recipes. There are some good recipes there.

ANNE D, have you had any bloodwork done recently before you started SSzing? If not, maybe you could have bloodwork done soon, then have some done in a few months. That way you can tell if this WOE is really helping you. I think I read somewhere that it takes a few weeks, or months, I'm not sure, for the results to show.

Hi nikkic  Hope you had a great day yesterday.

I can't believe it's Friday already...holidays really screw me up! :?:
Take care and have a great day.

Hi!
I went to have a mammogram yesterday, just the usual check up. Saw the Dr. and she wanted to know how I was losing weight. I told her I was somersizing. She's the first person that didn't say something bad about it or have a judgement made up. She said it looks like it's working and to keep with it. I am going back in 3 weeks for a physical and will have blood work done then.
I hope everyone is feeling well. I feel pretty good now. The chiropractor really helps pop me back into shape.
I printed all of Peter N. thread off. I can't believe they're just going to trash the whole site. There are so many great recipes there.
Thank you all for the encouragement. I actually have only lost 14 lbs, not 24, but that's since Aug. 8th, so that's not bad. I've just been following the somersizing plan. Jennifer, this is what I ate the day before yesterday (yesterday was all screwed up)-
Breakfast-2 eggs scrambled with cream, cooked in butter, 4 slices of bacon
Snack-peach
Lunch-2 hamburger patties with cheese, ketchup (sugar free), cucumber salad
Supper-chicken cordon blu with a cheese/wine sauce, broccoli
Snack-miracle fluff
It seems like a lot of fat. I still have that recorded message in my head saying, 'Don't eat fat, it will make you fat', but it isn't true. I know I am feeding my body what it needs, it's the first time in my life I can eat this kind of stuff and not feel guilty. But of course, I do feel guilty. We are so conditioned to eating low fat and starving ourselves. Which has gotten us no where. We are over weight because of that nonsense. All our lives people have told us how to eat healthy and it doesn't equal this woe. I know I am doing the right thing. I will be able to eat like this forever and never feel deprived. It is great.
It is hard to eat out though. I have never been able to find one place that has any idea what I'm talking about. The other day, my DD and I went to a favorite restaurant. I got the Tri tips, which were not what I thought they would be and a salad. On the salad bar there was a lot of food, but all I could eat was boiled eggs and lettuce, no dressing. I know one thing, I will be saving money, because eating out isn't as much fun as it use to be. It's a lot better eating at home.
Hey, I think that's a good idea about a new thread every Monday. It will be easy to find.
Jennifer, thank you so much for this website and all you and your sisters do. It is the best website I've ever seen. It is so easy to use and you guys have thought of everything to make it fun and useful.
Talk to you all later, Nikki

Jennifer, I have been doing this cheese cracker thing for awhile too. I think it is great. Thanks for posting that, I never thought about it. I use Kraft Deli Deluxe and it works great. I leave it in there until it's all brown on top, in my little microwave, it takes 3 min. (not very powerful). I love these things. I've never tried fat free, that would be good for a carbs meal. You could make a veggie soup and use them for coutons on top. I have also seen where people use these crackers in meatloaf to replace bread crumbs.

Hi Everyone:
I had a busy day today the last day of my vacation:cry:
I took my 12 year old autisic son to the doctor and he has
adjusted his meds. I have to take him back in two weeks time
and I just know my boss:devil: will give me a hard time.
He has terrible bruises from biting himself and hopefully the
medication adjustment will help but this is serious business
and he must be followed by his doctor.

My diet has been going good and Aleka you are right I should
get my blood work done. It has been years..... but I am a
terrible coward when it comes to doctors I have not even had
my post partum check up from having my twins 12 years ago!!
Not proud, just a chicken.
Hope you all have a great weekend.
Anne.

Hi everyone!

Just a quick flyby post as I just got in and I am kind of tired:yawn:

I went out with two of my girlfriends and had dinner, then went shopping and then out for coffee. We had a lot of fun and haven't laughed like that for a while, my sides hurt!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

I am starting a new thread tonight fresh for the weekend:)
