Good morning. Will start a new thread. Hope I can find somebody to "sticky" it for us. If not, I guess we will do what we used to do, won't we lol
Mima - hope you had fun at the birthday. Also, hope you got your toe fixed up. Those ingrown nails must hurt. Why is your toenail "icky"? Hope you don't have a fungal infection. Applesby's meal sounds and looks good from what I see on TV. Don't go there much. Well, mostly, we don't eat out much. I seem to have allergies to additives and when I get them, my tongue feels like it is swollen.
Tammy - Hope you feel better today. Hate when the sinuses act up. Painful, they can be. Knees as well. Didn't even know mine hurt until I started walking down the stairs last night. Mine are usually a FM thing, although I do have OA in them as well.
I am ok again. 3 days of that heart going wonky was quite enough for me. I could not go to work yesterday. It kicked up again on Thursday night around 9:00 p.m. and lasted until after 3:00 a.m. before it went back into rhythum. I am pretty certain it was the MSG that caused the Palpitations. Don't know why it did what it did on Monday that was Atrial Fib. Feels like your heart is going to pop right out of your chest, and it is beating sooooooo fast. It was fine yesterday.
Well, we are going to Edmonton this morning., Hope you all have a good weekend, and Tammy, maybe just give Kate a call and see that she is ok. Thanks.
01-30-2010, 06:34 PM
Anne, most of this day has been yucky with the sinus stuff. I did manage to get some things done around here, but I sure didn't feel up to much of anything. Sure hope your heart keeps doing the right thing!
I just got off the phone with Kate. She is fine! Lots of visitors this time of year, so she has been busy. It was great talking to her for a few minutes. I am ready to go back down there where it's warm!
If anyone watches the Miss America pageant, check out Miss Ohio. She's from a small town near me, and her aunt is one of my friends from the Y.
Tomorrow is our pastor's last day, so I am sure it will be an emotional one. I hope I feel good enough to go.
01-30-2010, 06:38 PM
Thanks for the new thread ,Happy.. It has been a cloudy day here. We didn't get as much of the rain that was predicted. That's the way it usually is.
I am still having a problem getting back into a good eating plan..
I went to Dr. Tuesday expecting to get my knee brace. It didn't fit. Now they have ordered a custom one. I wonder about the whole thing. They took measurements . Maybe they would rather sell a more expensive one.
The knee pain is less with the two injections I have had.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend...Joanne
01-31-2010, 02:21 AM
Well, at least I'm glad your knee is hurting less now. I always hated wearing those braces, esp. the ones with the little holes for the kneecap.
We are snowed in. Really got dumped on this weekend. I don't know if any of you followed the snow/ice storm that was traveling across the US & along I40 over the last few days but I live 1 mile south of I40! We are home bound and feel blessed to even have power right now. There are 188,000 in OK without. Hubby came home at noon Friday and I've been cooped up in the house with him ever since! ha But ... I think I either have a small blood clot or a serious vein infection in my leg and he has been real good at making me keep it up and waiting on me to make sure I do. (He's driving me nuts!)
Anne, hope you don't have anymore heart flare ups. They're so scary and there's nothing you can do but hope you get through them. And Tammy, hope your sinuses get better. That stuff snot fun either! ;)
Hi Mima, Candice and Kate ... LOVE ALL YOU GUYS! (sittin' here watchin' late nite TV ... boo - nothing' good.) :(
01-31-2010, 09:53 AM
Good morning everyone! Long time but I'm still here. Thanks for the phone call Tammy! I guess I needed you to rattle my cage so I would get back on track. I have had so much company these past couple weeks that I haven't made time for my usual stuff. I am also cooking like crazy and not watching my diet so I am sure I will need to start my diet again very, very soon! These two friends from Cape Cod are leaving tomorrow morning but I have another couple that will be stopping by next weekend. They might not be staying though as they are on their way to south Florida....but then again.....
Thanks for asking for me though...it's wonderful that we care about each other. Tammy, you know you are always welcomed to visit here anytime. Not so sure you'd like the weather we are having today though. Cloudy, windy, damp and cold....and by cold I mean around 56 degrees (which is cold to us)! We have rain due for the next couple days. It's still beats shoveling snow though!
Joanne, sorry to hear you are still having issues with your knee. Sounds like you are just sick and tired of dealing with all these professionals who aren't doing their job too efficiently. I was just having this conversation with my GF here about how little patience I seem to have now as I get older. I find I tend to expect accountability from people I get services from now and God help them if they don't get it right. I have a feeling this is the new me too.....and it's not going to get any better as I age! Watch out! :club:
Meme, I see your activity on Facebook when I go in there and sorry I haven't been more active with you. I just don't do that much there except play a few games on occasion. I haven't had any time to do that either lately. I know what you are saying about the weather and feeling lousy though. I have been having a difficult time myself and I do think it has something to do with the changes in the weather. I also haven't been as active as usual because of all this entertaining so I really need to just put myself first and get back on track. I tend to be overly attentive when company is here and I need to make some adjustments in that department. Of course, you do all realize that they use my computer as well to do their stuff so it's like we all need to take turns in my office! Oh well, tomorrow is the last day and hopefully I will not be overwhelmed with guests for another week! Give me time to get the housed cleaned, the sheets washed and the fridge cleaned out for the next round! I did learn how to make a new candy from my GF while she was here though....buttercrunch! Just what I need, huh?
Hope all is well with everyone. I will try to be more mindful about my participation.....I am going to need all your support to get back on track after all this, okay?? I think we all need to have a whine session once in a while! Thanks for asking for me ladies!!
02-01-2010, 08:07 AM
It was great talking to you for a few minutes the other night. Also super great to know that you were ok! I would take 56 degrees right now. Not sure what it is right now, but yesterday it was 12. We haven't had any new snow since last week sometime. I told Tim that I had called, and he said I should just go back down and spend some more time at the Disney Resort and come over and bug you. AND eat a muffin. LOL Those were SO good! Calorie free too, right?? That buttercrunch is calorie free as well, I'm sure. Whine sessions are good for the soul!!
I'm up and ready to head to the Y. I need to change my tracker thingy. I lost another pound, and by golly, I'm moving that butterfly the right direction every chance that I get!!
Have a great day and a great week ladies!!
02-01-2010, 10:22 AM
Good morning everyone. Well, my guests are on their way now. It is so peaceful and quiet here right now and I am in heaven! Anne, I meant to thank you yesterday for starting the new thread....and do hope you are doing better with your heart thing. That racing would scare me out of my wits! I hope all is okay now.
Tammy, I know where that pound you lost went!! Right on my stomach! I am so bloated and feel so terrible from all the food we ate this past week! I made a stromboli last night with meats, sauteed veggies and lots of cheese. I made my guests take 1/2 of one with them today because I just don't want it around the house. Hubby will pick away at the other half for lunches at work this week. And congratulations to Tim for passing the exam!! I think he will make a great paramedic....good luck to him!
I am going to clean out the fridge today and get back to phase 1 of SB! I am waiting for the appliance people to show up again. This time it is my microwave! Thank God I bought the extended warranty on my appliances! This is the 2nd time for the microwave and the 3rd time for the fridge and they are just over 3 years old!
Queenie has her yearly check up with the vet tomorrow and then things should be quiet for awhile after that. Hubby's stress test went very well.....no problems at all so he is much relieved. Now his primary care doctor can give him some medication to help with his appetite. Looks like we will be dieting very seriously in the near future! He wants to get his knees done next January so he needs to get the weight off.
Well, off to switch loads of laundry. Hope everyone has an enjoyable Monday. It's raining lightly today and much warmer (65) than yesterday. We are suppose to have rain until tomorrow. Good day to curl up with a good book!
02-01-2010, 06:52 PM
I too need to get on the ball and lose some weight.. All I wanted to do today was eat.. Now I feel awful.
As I haven't heard from the guy about my brace I gather I won't see it tomorrow at the Dr. office.. I have been waiting on it so I can get back to my walking.. Between the coumadin and my diabetes there is so much I can't eat.. Like anything green and carbs which I have had to much of lately ,I rely on walking to help keep my weight in check.
Rainy and damp here and it looks like it is going to be around for a few days.
02-01-2010, 10:03 PM
I was just diagnosed with fibromyalgia today.
and maybe myositis. need more tests.
I've thought I had it for years. but never got help, I haven't worked in 5 years until now, and since I wan't working I just dealt with the pain. But I thought I could get meds, but my doc said no meds. she said pain killers would be a disservice to me.
she gave me a note so that I could sit at work.
I. Am. Miserable.
02-02-2010, 12:29 AM
Lottie, personally I think you need to find a different doctor if this one isn't going to give you meds. I don't understand that at all. Is this a family doctor or a rheumatologist? There are so many meds out there that help with fibromyalgia. Don't give up hope! I'm sure some of the others will be here to give some advice in the next couple of days.
I'm heading to bed now, but I'll try to check in tomorrow when I'm more awake. Take care!!
02-02-2010, 06:13 AM
Welcome, Lottie. As Tammy has said, there are a lot of medications out there that do help with symptoms of FM. Unfortunately there are also a lot of doctors out there who don't understand the discomfort of living with FM. I would definitely find a physician who has some experience working with FM patients, like a rheumatologist or pain management specialist. You might want to try the National Fibromyalgia Association website (www.fmaware.org) for more information and also check out their physician referral service. Good luck and keep us posted.
Off to get ready for our morning walk and then the yearly vet visit. I am looking forward to a peaceful, quiet day of house cleaning. My floors are in desperate need of mopping! I hope my aching body can stand up to it today! Another cloudy, rainy day in Florida!
02-02-2010, 11:04 AM
Kate, I'm sure your guests enjoyed all of the food, but it sure makes it hard on you. You sure have had problems with your appliances. Glad you had the extended warranty on them. Good to hear that hubby's test was ok. It will be good for you to work on the weight loss together to encourage each other. My floors could use a mop too, but I'm too lazy to do it today.
Joanne, I wish they'd get on the ball with the brace so you could resume your walking. I'm sure the rain and the dampness isn't helping things either.
I cheated and got weighed again this morning. I know I should only get weighed once a week, but I did it anyway. Down another pound. I am happy. After no losses for so long, it feels good to actually see the scales moving! (in the right direction that is!)
Have a great day everyone!
02-03-2010, 07:51 AM
I haven't been on because my computer was so messed up but it's mostly fixed .
Things are getting busy-we went to Bradenton yesterday to visit Bob and Pam staying at her parents til today. Suzanne is coming in tonight, tomorrow is a boat ride , and Friday is the wedding, hoping that rain forecasted will stay away,
So glad you are ok. Anne, and everyone else is alive but dealing with everything.
Netti pot for tammy. Lottie-the biggest thing with fibro is sleep and that; s what you need meds for. I take an antidepressant at night. Can only take tylenol for the pain because my pain med made me bleed. that was after taking it for 20 plus years.
Gotta get ready for art. Mima
02-03-2010, 04:36 PM
Mima, I knew the wedding was getting pretty close!
I bought a neti pot on Monday and have used it a few times. I haven't noticed any difference yet.
02-03-2010, 04:59 PM
Hi. Mima - You are getting closer and closer to the wedding. Hope it's a really nice day for them. Hope you don't have any more problems with your computer.
Tammy - I don't notice a big difference using the Netipot either. Just one time I used it, and it caused a pain, much like "freeze" brain. My goodness, that hurt. Haven't been that excited about using it since lol I use saline spray morning and night. It keeps the passages clear from bacteria etc.
Kate - well you have been a very busy gal. All that cooking is a problem, unless you cheat and cook for you only, and make them eat that. They wouldn't know the difference if you didn't tell them.
Lottie - nice to see you, only wish you didn't have FM. Sleep is a problem for most of us at times. I can't imagine why the Dr. won't give you a painkiller. At least take Aleve or Ibroprofen if you can tolerate them. We all have sleep problems and the best thing I have found is Ativan for a couple of nights and then I am good to go again.
Joanne - hope you are feeling not to down. It is hard to put your life on hold while you wait for something that will let you perhaps move forward. Keep your chin up, girl.
Been baking cookies today. Have sampled far to many to see if they were ok. Couldn't tell from the first dozen! lol
Well, off to try to think up something for supper.
02-03-2010, 11:13 PM
thanks everyone, I'm also bipolar which makes the med situation more difficult.
02-04-2010, 07:43 AM
Good morning-Suzanne's plane was 2 hours late but 8 pm isn't bad and it was a safe flight/
Brad and I are going to pick up the wedding dress and the cake this am and meet them at 3 and go for a boat ride at 5. The weather is nice today. Clouds tomorrow. they are getting married at Lover's Key. there is a gazebo in case it rains. Hi all-gotta wash my hair.
02-04-2010, 11:30 AM
Oh Lord, Anne.....my poor diet is shot big time after that last set of visitors! They are from the "old school" of cooking....you know, the butter, carbs, bread etc. I did use all whole wheat products and olive oil but the French meat pies with tomato chutney was the real thing....and that candy recipe of my GF's was decadent. I'm going to make one batch myself of this buttercrunch and put it ALL in little Valentine bags and give it away. I feel just humongous after this past week! I definitely need to get back to phase 1 of SB or I will be in big trouble. I just need some motivation....been very tired and sore lately.
Weather has gotten a bit warmer here and we are suppose to have a beautiful weekend. I will watch the Super Bowl with hubby on Sunday but I told him no cooking or eating bad stuff! Maybe a few cocktails but no junk food! My neighbors may come over. He has been re-diagnosed with cancer again....this is the 3rd round for him. He starts chemo again next week. He doesn't look too well and I think it has spread quite a bit. He's been a real trooper in the fight though. I'm hoping for the best for him and his family. I've been helping him do some computer stuff and faxing out some paperwork. I think he is tying up some loose ends.....how depressing is that? It's been making me think too much which isn't helping my efforts to get back to the diet either. Depresses me to think about his demise. Unfortunately, I believe it is imminent. I try not to dwell on it but it is difficult when he is right there in my garage with hubby or in the livingroom having a beer.
Sounds like everyone will have a busy weekend. I hope the weather is nice for the wedding, Mima. Enjoy the festivities. Off to do some food shopping. Making a shephard's pie casserole for dinner....hubby's request. A big salad on the side. Hope everyone enjoys their day.
02-05-2010, 10:09 AM
thanks Kate-rain in the forecast but there is a gazebo. We went on a nice boatride last night-saw pelicans and dolphins. Suzanne and I are off to get our nails done. I will post tomorrow. Sad about your neighbor, Kate. Mima
02-05-2010, 01:35 PM
Lottie, I think talking to a rheumatologist would still be a good idea. They could work with your other doctor about meds.
Mima, will you post pictures of the wedding? I saw several dolphins when I was at Jekyll Island.
Kate, I feel humongous too today. So sorry to hear about your neighbor. It's so hard to watch them go downhill.
A 14 year old girl from near here has cancer, and Hospice has been coming to the house the past week. At the basketball game tonight, the cheerleaders and players from both schools were supposed to do a tribute to Kirsten. We are having lots of snow, so the game has been cancelled. I don't know if she will still be here when the game is rescheduled. She has been looking forward to it.
I had trouble at class because my knee was bothering me. Didn't think I was doing that much, but I was sweating, my heartrate was up, and according to the watch I burned 600 calories.
The snow started as I was leaving home for the Y this morning. I just heard we could possibly get 10-14 inches of snow. Yuck.
Tim went to school this morning, saw several cars in the ditch, and the roads just kept getting worse. He turned around. Just got back in town about 30 minutes ago. He is emailing his professor (same one for 2 classes) to tell her why he missed class. It takes him a little over an hour on a good day. Today it was about 2 hours, and he wasn't even there yet. Glad he is back home. He is on rescue squad duty tonight. That scares me knowing that he could be driving the ambulance in this stuff.
I've already shoveled once to make a spot for Maurice, and I think I'm going to be shoveling several more times.
02-06-2010, 03:40 PM
The pain center called me, I have an appt on the 19th. the doc has horrible reviews online, but locally someone said she's a b!tch, but that you don't interact with her that much, and that her program is physical therapy, therapy, and seeing a psychiatrist. this sounds good for me. so I will try her out. She is a neurologist and a psychiatrist. Which sounds perfect for me, I just hope she's not a total disappointment.
02-06-2010, 07:05 PM
Welcome Lottie, I hope you do find the right Dr. for you..
Hello all, I got my l/leg brace yesterday. It is not the most attractive thing I have worn, but, if it does the job that will be okay.At my age it isn't as if I am going to do a runway..I will have to change some of my wardrobe. My brother thinks I can wear it on the outside of my jeans. I am not sure I want to do that. As soon as I can get to Joanne's Fabric store I will get a couple pieces of denim and make some pants. I cut out 3 pairs of culottes today.
It is going to be in the mid to lower 40's here tonight. That is cold to me. I got out my warm nightgown HA!It will soon be back to the 60's and 70's.
Have a Great Weekend...Joanne
02-07-2010, 04:43 AM
Hi-the wedding was cloudy for half and a pouring for the other half. A beautiful ceremony. Pam and Bob had to stay in the rain while the photographer took pics. Then we went to an awesome restaurant and dried off. Now we are heading to the airport at 5 am. for Suzanne. I am planning on being tired foa a couple of days. I haven't downloaded my pics yet. Mima
02-07-2010, 09:59 AM
Lottie, you'll have to keep us posted on the new doctor. Wishing you the best!
Joanne, glad to hear you finally have the brace! Hope it does the trick!
Mima, too bad about the rain for the wedding. I'm sure you will be very tired for a couple of days.
We are still under a Level 3 snow emergency, which means don't be on the roads unless it is emergency people and those needing to get to work. There are still roads that are not passable because of the drifting. Plows just can't keep up with it. The people came yesterday afternoon late and cleaned the driveways on our street. I wasn't planning on leaving, but it's good to know that I can if I need to. Of all the counties in this part of Ohio, ours got hit the worst with the snow. Thank goodness we haven't lost power like other places.
02-08-2010, 07:23 AM
Wow for that storm. Hope you get cleared out soon. Everyone got home safely. Back to reality-Suzanne was unhappy to go home but I will see her in 3 weeks. Sorry-I am happy for the Saints. Got to face the music at Waist watchers. I did go walking for 6 days. And we are having a pot luck at Sunday school. Bye for now-Mima
02-08-2010, 08:12 AM
Hooray! We can get out now!!! I'm heading to the Y for class then to the store to get a few things. New forecast: 5-8 more inches of snow by Wednesday afternoon. Oh boy!
Mima, glad to hear they all got home safely. Good for you on the walking!
02-10-2010, 04:17 PM
It's hard to continue to diet. Gained a pound-not bad. We are going to Chic Filet tonight-never been , Then church. I bet you are snowed in gain, Tammy.
I am having cataract surgery in one eye next Tues. I pd 1200 for a special lens that gets rid of my astigmatism. No glasses. But in the meantime, I will have to only see clearly out of one, Hope to get the other after I come home from the shower. Bye guys-Mima
02-10-2010, 07:41 PM
Yep, we're snowed in again. They are pulling the snow plows off the roads till morning. The snow is blowing and drifting everywhere.
Mima, that sounds good about the special lens.
Hope all of you are doing well.
02-13-2010, 09:58 AM
I watched the opening of the Winter games last night. I got tired and didn't see all the teams come in. I will watch some today.. I am not a person to just sit and watch T.V. I am usually doing something else while it is on. Reading, sewing, etc.
Happy Valentines Everybody..Joanne
Hi. Mima - good luck with that eye surgery. Pray all goes well for you. Glad the wedding went off ok, but too bad it had to rain.
Tammy - have you dug yourself out yet??? My goodness, the eastern states really got hit, didn't they. We rarely get snow like that here. Haven't really had any snow for over a good month. Just stays below freezing, so it never melts. It's ok, because it is good ground cover and will be good in the Spring. it is only on the ground, not the roads or sidewalks etc.
Joanne - how is the new brace working out? I watched the opening as well, and say al lot of the teams, but didn't see the USA and Canada:mad: It takes sooooo long to get through them, and I think I switched the channel. Too bad about the death of that yourng man from GEorgia. One fatality is one to many!
Everybody have a nice day.
02-13-2010, 02:12 PM
Hi-we went to a Valentine dinner at church with a do-wop group-they were great. Some people got up and danced-including Brad and I-not your ususal at a Baptist church.
Have had a UTI-went to the doc's because I didn't think it was clearing up but it is. Hate that cipro. 2 and a half more days.
Got an LLBean jacket, scarf, and gloves for under $10 at my favorite thrift store. All set for the cold. Which it is here!!! never had such a cold winter,
I Have to go for a walk-maybe I will wear my new jacket,
Hope your brace is working out Joanne, Mima
02-13-2010, 06:59 PM
The brace is working out .Thank God ,I have had no pain since the 2nd injection. Ofcourse ,at night I feel the bones rubbing eachother now and then. Not a lot of pain though .
We even had snow in N/Fl. yesterday. I would have loved to see it.. I know that sounds strange to some of you, but, I am a girl from the south who has only seen it 3-4 times and very little at that.
I will watch a little more of the winter games tonight.
02-13-2010, 09:21 PM
Joanne, I'm the same way when I watch tv. Always doing something. Glad to hear that the brace is working out for you! Maybe I'll pack up some of the snow and ship it down to you. We still can't get out the one back door where Maurice usually goes out. He has finally adjusted to a different door.
Anne, I've been out and about. The main roads are good, but some of the secondary roads are still pretty bad.
Mima, your shopping at the thrift shop sounds good!
Tomorrow will be our first day with the new pastor. Hopefully the parking lot has been plowed out. I know that I plan to get there early to make sure I can park.
02-14-2010, 09:59 AM
Hi, I just joined the forum yesterday.
The main problems I have with my FM are finding the right balance between too much and too little exercise, staying away from refined sugar and the inflammatory response it causes, and taking some of the burden off my joints by losing some poundage.
Past experience has shown me that when I do that, I significantly reduce my symptoms.
02-14-2010, 01:41 PM
Welcome to the group! Isn't it funny how we know what we need to do to help ourselves, but we don't do it? I guess we're just human. I have found that with the right meds, and doing the exercise, I don't have problems with the sugar like many people have. I think when I was first diagnosed in 2004, I had more problems. How long ago were you diagnosed?
Our new pastor was very nervous this morning. Other than that, I think he'll be fine. He has a sense of humor, and he reminds me of the pastor at the church that I went to before we moved. Just a down home type of guy. His fiance and her son were with him. He's a few years older than me, I think someone said he's 58. This is his first church. Found out today that he has been on an Emmaus Walk! That's the stuff that I'm involved with!
Happy Valentine's Day to all of you!!
02-14-2010, 02:35 PM
Hi, Tammy. I'm definitely human, in that regard. Its hard to say exactly when I developed FM, because it became noticeable as I recovered from CFS (which took years), but it's been fifteen years or more since diagnosis.
02-15-2010, 12:27 PM
I think some of the others on this thread have had Fibro long like you have. I didn't have any problems until I fell on the ice going in to the school one year. The rheumatologist told me that's what triggered it. Fun!
Guess what is happening here again? SNOW! Expecting 5-10 more inches on top of what we already have. It's getting kind of funny actually. Maurice is used to the different door that he has to go out because of the huge drift at his normal door. The drift will be taller by morning. Tim had classes today. I'll be glad when he gets home. Last week it took him over 2 1/2 hours to go one way, and he usually makes it in a little over an hour. He texted earlier that the roads were clear this morning on his way there, but the drive home will be different. His class ends at 3, and he is on rescue squad duty here at 5. Could be pushing it to be home on time.
Meme, are you having more snow in Tennessee?
Hello to everyone!
02-16-2010, 10:31 AM
And a good morning to everyone! I have been a busy, busy bee....but need to get on here to say hi and welcome to Kittehmomma! Yes, as Tamy has said, I am one of those "long-time" FM people. Unfortunately, it hasn't gotten any easier to live with as I've aged! The weather here in Florida lately has been very very cold and I have been more stiff and sore than usual.
Lottie, it sounds like you might be on the right path for your symptoms....I do hope this new doctor works out for you. Fm is also known for the depressing effects it has on its sufferers. I still get the blues every so often when I have a lot of discomfort that doesn't subside.
Joanne, great to hear your knee brace is working! I wouldn't worry too much about making any fashion statements....as long as you can continue to move around and live your life, right? That bone thing at night would put me over the top....just thinking about that sensation is giving me the heebie-jeebies!
Mima, has the wedding happened yet? I am losing track of the dates so not sure when this event was going to happen....I guess you could say I have been lost in cyber space!! Things are quiet here for the moment. We have been expecting to hear from that friend of ours who stays too long (remember Bill??) every year. He called a few weeks ago and mentioned coming down and hubby told him he could only stay 1 week. We haven't heard from him since....gee! You think maybe he got the message?? He usually arrives here about this time in February but we haven't heard from him so maybe he isn't coming. Sorry to say, I will not be offended if he doesn't make it this year. I did invite his wife to come down if she needs to get away from her stressful situation....she takes care of everybody and everything so sometimes she gets a little undone. I told her she was welcome to run away from home if she needed to! No calls as yet, though.
Well, hope everyone is keeping warm! It is still too cold here and I understand there has been lots of snow activity around the midwest out to the east coast. Even North Carolina had snow....wow! Strange weather this winter, huh? Off to run a few errands and vacuum the house. Hope all is well with everyone.

You're right, it does get harder as we get older. That's why I'm really stepping up my efforts to improve my overall health. I want to maximize the good health aspects I have, to minimize the effects of the chronic health problems.
02-18-2010, 08:48 AM
Hi Kit-have had fibro forever-I walk a milke every day and swim when I can -but not lately as I have had a toe that's healing and now, Cataract surgery. Which went well and will know later than sooner how good that eye is. I want it yesterday and I pd 1200 for a special lens soi sure want it to work-for distance reading signs. Brad has to put in my eye drops as I either miss or touch the lens.
Wedding was 2 weeks ago which was good-even though it poured, because it got colder after that.
Hi Kate, I had a gf that drank and was coming to visit and I told her that her drinking bothered me and she never came. Yeah for that.
Joanne, so happy about your brace!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bye for now-Mima
02-18-2010, 06:52 PM
I am happy about the brace too except when I don't get on tight enough in the a.m and it starts to slide down my leg when I am walking Christie ..
My weight is becoming a challenge I need help.. I start out good in the morning and don't do so good the rest of the day. I am starting to walk more and maybe that will help. It has just been so cold lately and hard to do that. I live near two bayous and a little over a mile from the gulf so the wind is really cold lately
I don't think there is much that doesn't hurt lately.. Must be the weather..
We are spoiled here in Florida and when it gets a little cold we really feel it.. In the 30's and 40's is too cold for me...In fact I prefer 60 and above..
02-18-2010, 07:55 PM
Hi, Mima. Cataract surgery is amazing! My mom just had hers done and she is thrilled. Sending healing thoughts your way.
Joanne--I start out well, but falter later in the day, too. I need to make some behavioral changes, see if I can reduce my opportunities to go astray.
02-19-2010, 02:53 PM
Kate, we're getting more snow the beginning of the week. Sure wish I was at Vero Beach now! That is funny about the friend Bill!! Wonder if he will show up?
Mima, I usually end up with eye drops running down my cheek and not in the eye.
Joanne, having the brace slide down while you are walking is better than losing your pants while walking, right? LOL This week has been one of hurting for me too. The temperatures have been about the same, cold, so I'm not sure what's up.
Kitte, there are days when I do terrible in the mornings, and then I'm on track the rest of the day. Most of the terrible mornings (or what I think is terrible) are the days when I have class at the Y. I just seem hungrier on those days.
02-20-2010, 10:32 AM
Good morning everyone. It is suppose to warm up around here this weekend....still a bit chilly for me today but at least I have one of my sliders opened! Hubby had to work today and I was suppose to go to the Vero Beach farmer's market with my neighbor but decided I didn't feel like it today. Next Saturday will be better for me anyhow. I can plan a full day in Vero and get everything done all at once. Getting our taxes completed next Wed so that will be done. I have also been out cleaning up the yard a bit and cutting back that passion vine....we're going to move it away from the patio screen and put in on our side of the neighbors fence (remember, the fence is on our property about 6 inches so there you go!) I didn't realize that passion vines are "tendril" vines so it has been grabbing onto our screen enclosure. I'm going to plant a "twining" vine there on the trellis in it's place....a Carolina yellow jasmine. We will still get the privacy coverage along with a great smell!
Tammy, it seems that the north and north east have had an abundance of snow this year....and I definitely do not miss shoveling that stuff! We should be starting our spring warm up any week now. The pine pollen has been really bad the past week or so. We also need some serious rain soon. Hopefully that will bring all these plants that were beat up by the cold back. I'm looking forward to some warmer days but not excited about another summer here in Florida. That summer heat I can live without too! Wish I had a nice place somewhere up north to go to for a few months a year! Maybe if I win the lottery??
I have been having a lot of sciatic pain lately....even hurts to walk some days. I'm taking Aleve now instead of Advil but not feeling it is helping that much. I seem to do better with the Advil but end up having to take twice as much. The Celebrex didn't help at all and just gave me a pounding in one of my ears. Not sure what the next course of action is going to be for pain management. My doctor mentioned starting with the shots now. We'll see. I'd like to research those shots a bit more before I say yes to that. I might request an order for physical therapy first to see if that helps.
And I haven't heard from Bill or anyone else about visiting.....I think he is not coming, huh?? Gee, that's too bad.....;)
Off to finish my chores. Hope everyone enjoys their day.
02-20-2010, 06:48 PM
Hi guys-I am doing well-Brad has to do the drops-I am leaving for MA on Thurs and so far no storms. I even had to buy some flannel pj's,
I bought a new computer but BJ's was out so I had to get it shipped online. I keep buying things for the baby-still waiting for some Minnie Mouse fleece to make a blanket.
It's finally warm out. But next Thurs it's back in the 50's.
I am good eating until suppertime-then it's non-stop.
Bye for now-mima
02-21-2010, 11:07 AM
OK I lost my post. I ate all day Sat. Our water heater took a hike.It is not 2 years old. We bought it at Home Depot. We went to see them and they just gave me some numbers to call. They did make arrangements for someone to call me Monday. I called the numbers they gave me when I got home and they just gave me more ph. numbers to call.Plumbers. In other words take care of it yourself. I may have to get our son to help us. They can't run over him as easy. I will never buy another large item from H/D again.. Those warranties are just just to sell you. I should have bought from Sears as I planned to in the first place..The water heater we had before was a sears and it lasted over 20 years without a problem. Now H/D says we need to have it looked at yearly. Before it finally goes we probably could buy 3 water heaters. Don't ask if I am P----- Off,You know I am.Enough.
It has got warm but it won't last.. We usually have a week of cold and then a week of warm this time of the year..
I started my eating plan good this morning . I hope I can keep it up the rest of the day.. Have a good week ..Joanne
02-21-2010, 01:30 PM
Hi. Read the posts, but they all seem to go right over my head today lol.
Joanne - good luck with the new start. It's a new day! As for the hotwater heater, and every other appliance out there, they are no longer made to last long. Hope your son will have some success with getting it looked after.
Mima - have a good trip. I'll bet you are getting excited about the baby. When is he/she due again? How is your eye doing.
Tammy - put a little shovel on the front of your car and go!! lol Hope the fatigue is ok. I have been taking Rib-Rose and find it does help in that regard. Just been on it for 1 week. Dr. Oz advised it for Chronic FAtigue and FM, so thought I would try it.
Worked a lot of days last week, so this weekend is a rest one, as I must work again on Monday. Went for groceries on Tuesday, decided to come up the backalley and drop them on my deck, instead of trucking up the stairs with them, and I got stuck!!!! Lucky for me, the telephone guys were working in the alley and came to my rescue. They pushed me out. The elevator seems so far away, but would probably be easier.
Hope you all have a good day.
02-21-2010, 01:34 PM
Kate, I finished before I was FINISHED!!! lol
Be careful you don't reinjure your shoulder. Also, doesn't the humidity bother your FM or OA. It sure does me. The cold is dry and I feel great during the coldest part of the winter.
Glad all that company didn't get there. Some is nice, too many are not.
02-22-2010, 05:56 AM
Lilly is due April 5th. Suzanne's MIL had a big showere for the family and church members yesterday-there were 74 people. Our small one is next week. But it will be nice.
Leaving Thurs-I ate some zucchini skin yesterday and dearly pd for it. Where did you get the Rib-rose Anne. Never heard of it.
Brad says they should give you a new water heater but they won't pay for a plumber-no one does. He wants to know what kind it is??? gas or electric.
Weigh in today-I should be ok because I spent yesterday in the bathroom.'
Bye for now-Mima
02-22-2010, 09:46 AM
Hi Mima - It's Ribose. Don't know WHAT I was thinking when I typed the other lol Here is link for you http://www.nutrabio.com/Products/ribose_fibromyalgia_research.htm
I bought mine in the healthfood store, but apparently Wal-Mart sells it as well.
Thanks for letting me know when baby is coming. It's getting closer.
Good luck with the weigh-in today.
I have to run, as it's a work day today.
Enjoy the day, everybody.
02-22-2010, 10:32 AM
Mima- The water heater is electric.. our son put a hose to it this morning to drain it. The people who were supposed to call us did . They wanted 98 dollars to come, first hour and 1/4 for any time after.. They said the parts were under warranty. That is not true. The G E people that H/D gave me a number for said they were not.Big deal ,the elements cost 16 & a piece. They take advantage of seniors, because they think we are old and stupid . We are going to let our son do it.. He said he knows how and has done several.. We rather pay him. He needs the money. I think Brad is right. But ,they won't replace the W/H.
It is supposed to rain today. I will believe it when I see it.
Have a good trip Mima.
My weight is not going down, but, at least not up. These 10 lbs wants to stick.
I keep trying..
02-22-2010, 10:51 AM
Good morning all. Anne, thank you for that Ribose info....I just ordered a tub for myself. I have been so sore lately and not sure where I need to go from here for treatment. I will start this as soon as I get it....of course I will let my doctor take a look at it and he will probably want to do blood work, etc.....but I just feel the need to do something. I am hoping he will refer me to physical therapy for a short time as well. I need to get these muscles straightened out. Hubby only had yesterday off thgis week so we struggled to get as much done as we could. Got a lot accomplished too! Both of us were very sore and exhausted last night but it feels good to get some of those chores out of the way. Next big chore is to power wash the pool patio....but we're going to wait for the pine pollen to finish before we do it. That way all will be clean and ready for the warmer weather which lets us grill and eat outside.
Joanne, I seem to be doing the same thing regarding the eating at night lately. I am great all day and don't feel hungry but as soon as I have eaten supper and walked Queenie, I want to eat more. I think it is more of a habit for me rather than being hungry. I just need to break the habit! Mima, are you a celiac? I don't think I ever realized it before from your posts but what else causes your problems with food? I had IBS for over 30 years and since this SB diet, I haven't had any problems at all. I still do my fiber therapy every night but food doesn't seem to bother me like it did before. I just can't eat anything processed now...like white flour, sugar, white rice etc. Everything has to be whole grained.
Tammy, we finally had a couple of beautiful days here. It is a bit cloudy today and we are suppose to have rain but the temps are much better. I think the cold weather has finally left and we should be warming up fast now.
Need to get to the store....making a lasagna with whole grain pasta for tonight with a big salad on the side. Hope everyone enjoys their day!
02-23-2010, 06:47 AM
I am sensitive to wheat-gives me ibs and congestion. I lost 2 lbs yesterday because I have been in the bathroom constantly. I will check on the ribose.\
Eye doc, shot and blood test this morning.
I bought a pair of shoes at Kmart and got home and they were 2 different sizes-my fault becuse I didn't look and I had been trying on both.Brought them back to get the right one.
I am not looking at the wether til tomorrow, Mima
02-24-2010, 08:00 AM
Good morning, everyone.
I'm trying to get my exercise levels up, but gosh darn it, I pulled a muscle. I hate when that happens. I go along doing well, then I have to stop or severely limit myself so I can heal up.
On a different front--suffering from hay fever and low-level asthma. Darned false spring! (I know, I could be shoveling snow, instead.) It's raining right now, so I hope that will clear the air.
02-24-2010, 10:58 AM
Good morning everyone. A rainy day here in Florida and we are suppose to have another cold front move in tonight....will be down in the low 40's. Uggghghhg! This cold damp weather is killing me! Pine pollen is very heavy as well which makes me nuts about cleaning the house! Oh well, at least I am not shoveling snow! :)
Joanne, I have heard that a water heater builds up minerals quickly and causes it to not heat the water enough. If you don't have a purification system on your house, you are suppose to drain/flush your water heater yearly to keep the stuff from becoming sediment in the bottom of the tank. The sediment turns hard like cement and then it is impossible to remove even after only a couple of years. I guess that's one way for plumbers to stay in business! Hope things work out for you.
Mima, what a way to lose weight!! I can't complain now that I am not eating any refined foods....don't seem to be having the IBS symptoms anymore. I used to take the enteric coated peppermint capsules to help soothe the intestinal tract whenever I had a flair up. They seemed to work really well and also had a "cooling" effect whenever you go to the bathroom! I know, more info than you needed, right? ;) I have put on the same two pounds I took off last month...doctor is going to be real pissy about that! I just can't seem to get back to a no-carb plan for those two weeks....
Hubby had his company's yearly insurance/benefits meeting this morning. Our health insurance premiums have stayed the same but our co-pays have doubled. Now we will pay $20 per primary care visit and $45 for specialists. I suppose I should be grateful we even have the insurance at this point, huh?
Off to finish my chores. Need to fold laundry and organize some recipes. Hope everyone enjoys their day.
02-24-2010, 06:50 PM
Hello Everybody.. Our son came over and drained the W/H tank. No sediment. He finally found out the thermostat had gone bad. It heats now but we are still out of hot water after a 10 minute shower. He is going to change the other thermostat this week when he can. He went to work for a friend till he gets into the school for law enforcement in April.
Yes ,it is going to get cold again.. It is barely sprinkling now We need a lot more rain than that. I will take Christie out and hope for more rain tonight..
02-24-2010, 08:40 PM
Going back over posts. Haven't been able to get on here sometimes. Anyone else having any problems?
Mima, that is one heckuva huge shower! Did you ever get the Minnie Mouse fleece for the blanket? Good job on 2 pounds! Boo on 2 different sizes.
Joanne, that stinks about the water heater. I agree with you about paying your son to fix it.
Anne, I might have to check into Ribose. I would say that most of my days aren't too bad. If there is a change in the weather, I have more pain then. Lucky for you that you had someone to help you out when you got stuck.
Kate, I bet your pool feels pretty good to you and your hubby to just relax in when you can. Pine pollen. Not sure what it is, but I'm wondering if maybe that was the cause of my illness a couple years ago when Bob and I were in Georgia for a month. I was sick from about the 4th day there till we left. Tried to doctor myself and ended up at urgent care. I'm sure pollen was mentioned. I am still ready to come back someday. I can get to your house and I can get to the Vero Beach Canine Country Club!
Kitte, ouch to the pulled muscle! Hope you feel better soon!
02-25-2010, 07:01 AM
I am usually wheezing all the time this time of year but I think the cold weather helped. The Minnie Mouse fabric was in Orlando yesterday-I will make it later. Funny that my computer was leaving form MA and that's where I am flying to this am. For the shower. So far it's on time but I will check before I leave the house.
Cold again-Brad is helping a friend put in a new AC system this morning,
Bye for now-I will try to catch up in MA. My son's heating system shut down and they got 12 inches of snow. And he is in RI/
Bye for now. Mima
02-25-2010, 11:47 AM
Good morning everyone. Very chilly here this morning! The wind makes it feel even colder, too. We are suppose to warm up AGAIN this weekend. I wish this darn weather would just make up it's mind!!
Tammy, we don't do the pool this time of year. Sometimes we will turn the heater on for it if we are having company but it has been too cold to attempt to heat the water in it this winter! And we did not have the "usual" company this month. (I think Bill and his wife might be miffed at us because we said a week was the stay limit.) Oh well, that's life! Next time you are down this way, we should try to get Maurice and Queenie together to see how they would do. My neighbor brings her female dog into my home all the time. Queenie just goes to her food dish area to make sure there is nothing in it and then ignores her. The only time I have seen Queenie get "undone" is when another dog growls at her....then she can get quite "snarly". If they get along, maybe you could extend your Florida stay for few days by staying here? Just a thought for you to keep in the back of your mind!
Still having trouble staying away from carbs right now. This cold weather makes me want to eat a lot of them, too. I'm making a turkey meatball minestrone style soup for tonight and there's nothing like a nice whole grain crusty bread to go with it!! I just have to limit myself to one piece....yeah, right!~ I'll keep at this diet though and try not to put anymore weight on. My doctor is going to pitch a fit this next time around....
Off to buy some greens for the soup. Hope everyone is staying warm. I'll check back later.
02-26-2010, 09:03 AM
Mima, brrr to your son with no heat!
Kate, usually when Maurice "meets" another dog for the first time, he'll growl a little or bark, then he hides. It would be so funny to see them together with their different sizes. At the place he goes here when I go away, he has played with their Newfoundlands, and that is a hoot!
We have lots of ice this morning. Last night the snow was blowing and drifting on the roads and made them super slick. Lots of sirens all morning. Tim was supposed to go off squad duty at 5, but I don't know if he did. He doesn't have his first class this morning, but he has two this afternoon. I worry about him on the road. He was on a run yesterday afternoon for a car that hit a slick spot and rolled over into a field. The lady was ok. She said the car rolled so slowly that she probably could have gotten out while it rolled! Glad she stayed put!
Classes were cancelled at the Y because of the road conditions. I plan on staying put for now. May run to the grocery later.
02-27-2010, 07:04 AM
Good morning. A very very cold one here this morning....high 30's and it sure feels like it!! Not suppose to get out of the 50's today either.....long day inside I think!
Anne, how are you doing on the Ribose? Just curious as I have taken my second dose as of this morning. I have been reading up on it and my only concern is the amounbt of "sugars" listed in it per dose (4 gm)....I guess that's the energy part of it. I will just compensate for it somewhere in the diet...perhaps by getting my butt on the elliptical???
Hubby is home today so I have to get my "honey-do" list together. I'll check back after my walk with Queenie this morning....and I will have to wear my long johns this morning!!
02-27-2010, 11:53 AM
I should check into that ribose too.
I haven't been out since Thursday, and I plan to go somewhere today even if it is just across town to the grocery. The people were here to clean out the driveways and the walks. It's a good thing. Tim stopped after work last night (1:00 AM), and he had to crawl across drifts to get to the front door. I had no idea it was blowing the snow like that. You know that there have been days that the sheriff's office has issued different levels for the road conditions. Yesterday was one of those days where he begged people to stay home. There were numerous accidents, and one of them was a fatality (head on collision) when someone's truck skidded on the icy roads. I know that if the sheriff hadn't been issuing these warnings over the past few weeks, there probably would have been more people killed. I didn't know the man killed yesterday, but several people that I know worked with him or his wife. 29 years old. So sad.
Tim called earlier. He's waiting for the landlord. No heat. Brrrr.
02-28-2010, 09:48 AM
Good morning everyone. Still cold here....not sure what is going on with this strange weather pattern lately. This is the coldest it has been here in Florida since I have moved here. I just hope this is an indication that we might have a cooler summer...not likely but one can always hope!
I haven't noticed too much of a difference as yet taking the Ribose. The one thing I did notice is that I have to "pee" a lot more...for about 2 hours after I take it. I just have to remember to not drink it before I walk Queenie! I am only doing one scoop 2X a day. That warning about the hypoglcyemic side effect put me off the 3rd dose. Are you taking it 3X a day Anne? Give me some feed back when you have time, okay?
Went to the farmer's market in Vero Beach yesterday. Very expensive...must be because it was in the "chic" part of town? I did buy some fresh mozzarella and some mediterranean lemon sauce for fish. I made whole wheat crust margherita pizzas last night with the fresh mozzarella...they were delicious!
We're suppose to get a bit warmer today and tomorrow and then possibly another cool front moving in. Like I said, if this is an indication of a cooler summer then I'll be happy!! Tammy, did Tim finally get his heat on?? Hope everyone is staying warm!
02-28-2010, 03:51 PM
Hi guys-boy you are having a time of it, tammy. I flew to Ma on Thursday-they cancelled my 2nd flight but changed me to a very similar one timewise and everything went smoothly. My dil is a sweetheart. They are making me feel so welcome. They even took me to church.
The shower was wonderful. So many lovely things and I got to see all my favorite people. My aunt, cousins, my best friend Sandy, and especially Suzanne, Bob and pam.
After it was over, we washed all Suzanne's baby clothes and folded them . Even the ones from the other shower. She ended up staying over because it got so late. Then Bob made us breakfast and she went home, quite sad to leave, She is so big and Lilly's head is right in position, Now to wait for the birth, I am having my other eye done on the 9th so I hope she waits til then . It's weird having only one good eye.
I would not like to pee every 2 hours but I would like to try the ribose. People will adjust to your boundaries about visits, Kate,
Flying out at 3 tomorrow. Mima
03-02-2010, 03:15 AM
It's been a while. Heart palpitations all last week and couldn't breath. 2 weeks before that, had a blood clot in my leg and couldn't sit at the computer. Feel a little better today. Had a funeral last weekend so was busy with that Fri and Sat and you know what Sundays are like so rested up today. More snow coming in tonight and tomorrow. I'm like Tammy ... ready for it to end. I'm ready for Spring and some sun! I think we are supposed to get some warm weather later on in the week. I'm so ready. I think this has been the hardest winter on arthritis and fibro I have ever experienced and I have had arthritis for over 40 years and fibro for over 30 years. I've had such a hard time this year. But then, I've had some other things going on in my body, too. But the pain seems to be worse this year. The weather hasn't helped any. I don't even want to get out of bed and face another day some mornings.
I'm going to retire tomorrow. I told one lady that and she said, "retire from what." I wanted to smack her! ;) I think some people just open their mouths and speak! ha Let me rephrase ... I'm going to start drawing my SS tomorrow! :p Between Wal Mart, Prescriptions and Insurance ... every little bit helps!
03-02-2010, 10:53 AM
Meme- It sounds like you have a Birthday tomorrow?? If so HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
I can relate to your feelings .I too want the weather to change. I seem to have more pain this winter than before. At least ,I hope it is just the weather working on my arthritis. I am seeing my Dr. next week and maybe he will get it resolved . My shoulders have been really bad since October.
Kate ,sometimes I think That family and friends from the north want a free vacation down here. That was the way of it for me for a while. Now they have moved down and the problem is solved. I have a small house and have just one extra bedroom. Not much room as that is also my sewing -workroom. Ofcourse ,I have lived in Florida all my life and don't know many people who live any where else.
Mima- It will not be very long and you will be going back home. I hope we get a few days of good weather before you do.
Tammy- I bet you will be glad to see spring. I have seen on T.V where the snow storms have been really bad this year. But, what would I know. I have only seen a little light snow in my life.
03-02-2010, 03:23 PM
Thanks for the well wishes but ... no BD. Just decided to retire. SS called ME. How about that. Guess they thought I'm getting old! :p
03-02-2010, 05:45 PM
Kate - I haven't been ignoring you lol I have been so busy working and trying to catch up inbetween. The Ribose. After taking it for 3 or 4 days, I found I had far less pain. I had stopped taking Celebrex a month ago. Then I got yet, another yeast infection, so I decided, without researching it, that Ribose (being a sugar) would make it worse, so I stopped taking it. I was taking 2 x a day - found the bowel a little looser than normal (aren't you glad you know THAT). Anyway, I am now in the process of deyeasting again. Hopefully, I will get back to the Ribose next week.
Meme - so sorry you ae feeling so horrible. You people in the South and Eastern seaboard, have been hit hard by winter. It has been pretty good here. I will have snow longer on the ground that you, because we have permafrost here, but we haven't had any new snow for well over a month. March came in like a lamb, so hope it doesn't go out like a lion, but it is entirely possible , here. Also, Easter is early again this year, and we always have some kind of huge storm at Easter.
Mima - hope you had a safe trip home. Glad you enjoyed the mini visit with your family.
Joanne - no Florida for me! It was ok, but I think I would perfer Arizona, as it is a dryer heat - more like I'm used to. Don't do well with humidity at all. So, my brother lives in Arizona for 6 months of the year. I think we might get down there next year and see how we like it. Couldn't go away for 6 months. Would hate to not see my kids or gkids for all that time.
Tammy - hopefully you are still not shovelling all that snow. The problem with you having so much snow, is it will melt quickly and then perhaps cause flooding. Not much chance of that here lol
We were in Edmonton on the weekend. My son's house is almost done and they should move in to it in about 3 weeks. It was all painted and the flooring was all done. Kitchen cabinets are coming today. I guess bathroom as well. Anyway it sure is nice and I know they are anxious to get moved in.
My daughter had a 3 season room put up and it is attached to their house. It looks so nice, and it is a huge room. They can go outside still if they want to be on the deck. On nice sunny days, they can sit out there now. The sun has gotten some strength back, so when it's shining it feels so good.
Well going to go do something. Have a nice evening.
03-03-2010, 10:13 AM
Good morning everyone. Anne, thanks for your input about the Ribose. I also used to have a "systemic" yeast issue many, many years ago and I ended up going to a nutritionist who did a 6 week"cleansing" program. I had to stay away from all gluten, sugars, fruit etc and drink this mixture of caprylic acid, betonite clay powder and fiber 2-3 times a day. It did work but I still had the IBS symptoms. Since I have been on this SB diet (eating virtually no white flour or refined grains) I have not had any symptoms of IBS. I still take the pharmaceutical grade psyillium powder everyday though....been doing that almost 30 years now. Good luck with your yeast issue. I haven't had any noticable results from the Ribose yet. I am going to need to get some relief from this aggrevating hip/buttocks pain soon though. I'm finding it difficult to get comfortable in bed to sleep now. I just don't know where else I should look to for this...perhaps a pain management specialist. I just don't want someone who pushes the "shots" and stuff. I keep thinking physical therapy might be the answer. I'll have to mention it to my doctor and see what he says.
It is still darn cold here. Only 48 degress this morning and very, very windy past 2 days. I am not going to complain anymore about the cold though because I might be asking for it come this summer!! I truly hate the heat and humidity here during those hot summer months. Queenie does too....it seems we are trapped in the house with the A/C all the time.
Off to get some housework done. Need to do errands tomorrow so I will do the cleaning stuff today. Hope everyone is keeping warm and happy!!

Kate, I have found, that very few of the pains I have are from FM. Mostly the muscle pain (achy and deep) and the pain I get in my knees from time to time - that is totally different than OA. When I have hip pain or back pain, I head for the chiro and get it fixed. If it is keeping you awake, then YES, talk to your Dr. PT has NEVER done a thing for me, so I tend to shy away from it. Chiro works, so that is where I go.
IBS isn't a real problem for me, unless I get into something I shouldn't lol If I eat lots of fiber I do well. I have had this yeast problem for over 10 years, from when I had a lot of cortisone shots in my back. Dermatologist told me cortisone causes yeast to really flare! I have been to my naturepath, done the whole 9 yards, no sugar, wheat etc - only meat, veggies and maybe 1 piece of fruit a day, while taking a holistic yeast (like kills like). It worked, it went away for about 3 days, and then it was back. Too expensive to continue. Can't take Diflucan because it makes the heart race and I end up in the ER. I keep fighting it though. It is systemic and that makes it harder to get rid of.
We have had so much fog here, for the past 6 weeks. This is NOT normal for us, but I have to say the hoar frost is beautiful. It is because Elnino and the arctic air are not getting along. You have to have warm air, cold air, wind and clear skys to get this, apparently. Anyway, they are predicting a wet spring because of it, and a cooler than normal summer (oh joy!) but not as cool as last year (thank goodness). Oh well, at least we didn't have an earthquake or a hurricane or some such horrid thing.
Everybody have a good day.

Kate, Tim's landlord came about an hour after he called him, and he had heat again. The pilot light was out. I saw some different farmer's markets when I was down there. I don't like the heat and humidity down there either. I've learned and trying to time my visits better now.
Mima, we are hoping that we have seen the last of the big snows for this year. It has been very different for us. So glad you had such a nice time!!
Meme, not good about those heart palpitations. I agree about the aches and pains this winter.
Joanne, Bob's niece has asked me to come and visit her sometime, she lives in north Tampa. If I do, I'll come and bug you again!! I won't overstay my welcome with her I'm sure. Have no idea when or if it will happen though. I should come and visit you now and load up all the snow around my house and bring it to you to play in!!
Anne, my friend that met me at Disney in October lives in Arizona. She loves it. She has had fibro forever, and I know living there is much easier for her. Our snow is melting some, and so far it has been slowly. The temperatures are supposed to up in the 40's in a couple of days, so that could start the faster melting and flooding. Praying for no rain! I'm sure you son is getting excited about getting moved in! It is always an exciting time. We had several days in a row with the hoar frost. Beautiful!
Tim and I leave on Friday morning to spend the weekend with his fiance. We are staying at a hotel because her sister and her brother and his family will be coming in for the weekend. Wedding shower on Sunday, so I get to meet lots of people. I told Tim it isn't fair that I have to meet them before him! We are going dress shopping for me. I have a dress, but I can't make up my mind about wearing it. It's pretty, and I actually look good in it, so I should just wear it. BUT I keep thinking that maybe there is a better one out there for me.

Just remebered that I lost my last post. I have my new computer and it's so fast but I had to use system restore to get the wi-fi back after Windows did an update?????? The shower and trip were great. My dil and son were so good to me. They even took me to church. My post just went flying again but I got it back, Hope the birth doesn't happen til after the 16th-sorry Suzanne, I am having my other eye done next tues. I need to let all the plans go because I have no control.!!!!!
Here are some pics, I hope. I painted a pic for Bob and Pam.Mima
Got to resize pics!!!

Heavens, nobody has been here for 5 days!! Where IS everybody. Are we shutting down the thread??
I don't feel well. Have a sore throat, but I think it is from a postnasal drip. Have tried lots of stuff, but may have to end up at the Drs. Stayed home from work yesterday, and don't have any shift until Thursday, so I am hoping by then all will be well.
Mima - I hope all went well with eye surgery. Nice to get it out of the way.
Weatherwise it is nice, although we are suppose to have snow this afternoon. Went from sunny to gray so probably on it's way. Not much they say. It has been upin the 40's for the past week and will be again tomorrow.
Not holding my breath that this is Spring, as the weather can turnaround in minutes here. Just enjoy it while it's here. Haven't had any new snow since the 27 Jan, so who can complain?? It is sure nice to go out without the winter coats and boots on.
Well, hope SOMEBODY comes along.
03-10-2010, 06:08 AM
Netti pot, Anne? I am typing with my eye patch on. The surgery went well yesterday and I have an appt at 8 this am.
We will leave at the end of next week-hopefully to get home before the baby is born. She goes today to the doc's. She's not due til April 5th. Doc will have the results of the ultrasound,
It finally got warm here!!!
We got invited to our missionary friend's wedding in Denver on August 14th. Thinking of going to Yellowstone at the same time.
Hope everyone is ok. Mima
03-10-2010, 09:33 AM
Mima- I hope you do well with your eye surgery.. Have a safe trip home.
Happy I hope you feel better soon.
We have gotten warmer here. I am glad to see warm days although the weather man says it will rain and get cooler.
Tammy - It will be nice to see you if you get down.. Hope things are going well.
Today ,I am one year "younger" It will be a quiet day. The car is in the shop so we probably won't be going anywhere. My weight has climbed so I don't want to go eat.. I will do some laundry and take things easy.
I went to Dr. yesterday and he said I have bursitis and arthritis in my shoulders and injected one. He will do the other in a week. He wouldn't do both at the same time because I am diabetic.
My sister and I went to lunch for her Birthday( the 8th). We had a nice time.
Have a Nice Day...Joanne
03-11-2010, 06:37 AM
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JOANNE! Suzanne went to the doc's yesterday and he said Lily should stay put for a couple of weeks, which gives us time before I have to go there,
Eye is doing well-next Tues she will tell me what I should get for distance temporarily. Of course, that eye is still swollen.
Tomorrow we are going to meet Pam's parents so I can give them their picture-Evan is sleeping over and I am going to breakfast with my gf, Mon I am taking Mike to the game. Cooking dinner for him also. That's why I can't go home yet. Bye for now=Mima
03-12-2010, 06:56 PM
Hello Everybody.. Tomorrow my daughter-in-law and son are having us over for a birthday dinner. I will be very careful with my eating all day as she may be cooking pasta.. And my son said she is making a cake.. I sorta ruined my points tonight. I planned fish but when I dropped it in the floor it became eggs and 3 small biscuits.. Well, I made them with skim milk! And turkey sausage. Not a good points meal. The birthday will be over and I can get down to really working on my eating plan.. Where have I heard that before?
It has rained here all day.. I like the rain except when I have to take Christie out. Clocks move forward Sunday so it won't be so dark at this time of the evening.I am not fond of walking in the dark..
I hope everybody has a Great Weekend... Joanne
03-13-2010, 05:46 AM
Hope your bd dinner is nice. I am cooking for Mike's bd Monday-first we go to a Red Sox game-Evan was sick so I couldn't take him overnight. Hope no one else gets sick because we will bring the bd dinner there.
Eye is slowly improving but can't drive. It's weird walking in the store but I can see near fine-with reading glasses. The lens were supposed to improve distance!!!!
Going to breakfast with my gf and possibly lunch with dil's parents. Leaving Thurs-so much to do-this has been a crazy year. Mima
03-13-2010, 10:31 AM
Good morning everyone. I did check in quickly a couple of times but didn't have time to post anything. Anne, I stopped taking the Ribose...it was acting too much as a diuretic for me. I might begin taking it again when (and I do have intentions!!) I start exercising. I am suppose to go to a beginners tai chi class on Monday evenings with a neighbor....hopefully it will motivate me to get my butt back on the elliptical! I changed my doctors appointment to give myself an extra two weeks to get back to the diet. Hubby went to see his doctor last week and got some medication to help with his appetite. Guess he is dieting with me now......his knees still can't take exercise though.
Happy Birthday Joanne! We have had very cool weather here on the east coast. Lots of rain yesterday and last night too....I think they said close to 4 inches here. I had to drain the pool twice because it got too full....and hubby came home from work because they couldn't do any road stuff in the rain. Today is cool and very windy but the sun is shining and it feels refreshing for a change. Hopefully it will warm up the next few days. There are lots of arts and craft fairs around the many parks here this weekend.
Mima, I sure hope your trip back north goes smoothly and nobody gets this "crud" that is going around. I'm sure your vision will improve with time and healing....eye surgery really traumatizes the eye muscles. Keep us posted on things.
Tammy, I hope you are staying warm up there in Ohio. Has all the snow melted?? We had record cold temps down here this winter and some people lost a lot of their plants and shrubs. I sure would hate to have to go to the expense of replanting some of our stuff right now. I did remove that passion vine and replaced it with a yellow jasmime. I put the passion vine along the fence between the neighbors house and ours. We'll see what this spring brings!
Off to get some chores done. Hubby had to go in this morning to work because they had yesterday off.....I needed the peace and quiet today anyways. Lots going on next week but I will try to check in. Enjoy the day ladies!! Bye for now.
03-14-2010, 07:05 AM
Glad to hear from you Kate-we had 6-8 inches!! Now it's raining back home-hope the pump is working.
Met my gf for breakfast and dil's parents for lunch-wanted to give her the pic I painted for her.
We are leaving Thurs. Taking Mike to the Red Sox game tomorrow, And making his bd dinner. Haven't found out how they are-afraid!!! Don't know what I will do if they are sick.
I was up an hour later this morning-my bgody is such a clock. Mima

Hi, I'm new here and have Fibromylagia, RA and a host of other painful stuff. I am trying to lose 50 lbs I have gained back after Gastric Bypass. It took me 5 years to gain the 50, but hopefully, it won't take me that long to get it back off...lol. I'm 64 for one thing and then all the pain issues causes me to find it very hard to excercise and walk even, but I know I have to do it, as being older causes the metabalism to not work correctly. If I don't move, I become so sore that when I do get up out of my chair, I feel as if I'm breaking into a million pieces, it's that way all the time. I have lost 3 lbs already...yea!!! and am looking forward to getting out in the spring weather to walk some more as long as I have a few Lortabs to help with the pain. Good luck to all of you as well.
03-15-2010, 10:31 AM
Welcome Willow, You just think positive and you will lose the weight.. I went to WW and lost 74 and I am just 77 on the 10th of march.
This has been a strange weekend. The son and his wife gave me a birthday dinner. It put 3 lbs on me. I since have lost it. Now I have a bladder infection and have been to Dr. this morning and have to go get some meds for it in about a hour. If Wallmart gets on the ball and fills it without taking hours.
We had a total of 5 inches of rain this past week. we really needed it. Now it may be many days before we get anymore.
03-16-2010, 09:16 AM
I have no idea why I go so long without posting. I honestly don't know what I do.
Happy birthday a little late Joanne! Your name is on my calendar, so I knew it was last week. I knew Eleni's was close to yours.
Mima, hope your eyes are cooperating for you by now.
Kate, we've been in the 30's and 40's alot lately, but there have been several days in the 50's! That has helped get rid of most of the snow. I don't have any in my yard anymore, but there are places around where there are still piles of snow.
Welcome to Willow!!! The warmer weather will make it easier to get out and walk. We can all relate to the awful pain! Come and chat when you can! Good for losing those 3 pounds!!
This weekend Tim's fiance, her mother, and her maid of honor will be here. There is a shower on Sunday given by my sisters-in-law. I'm sure we'll have fun. I also have to help out at the Men's Emmaus Walk this weekend, so I'll be pretty busy. Hope I don't get too worn out.
Have a great day!
03-17-2010, 06:00 AM
Enjoy the shower, tammy. So much fun around weddings-and a little stress but it;s easier to be the mil.
Read my last post about the pump. Well the pump was unplugged so some water came into our apt but there is also water coming in the front to our living room. And it hasn;t stopped. That dear tenant of ours is vacuuming it out as fast as it comes in so we told her not to do it. It probably will seek it's own level but please put everything on the floor into the garage,
Maybe Suzanne will have the baby so I can go right to her house. Brad can sleep at his sister's . He has to put in a drain outside and redo the floors. Got a call into our insurance,
My eyes are doing ok-getting driving glasses today, I don't think that this is the final vision so I will be checked again.
I only need glasses for reading-the cheap ones, none for the computer.
We are leaving in the morning. So I will post from the road if I can. Mima
03-19-2010, 09:03 AM
Good morning everyone. It's been a quiet week here....nothing exciting to report. I'm waiting for an AT&T tech to show up this morning and install our new U-Verse system. We are getting rid of Direct TV and going with a new service through our phone company. Looks like we will have to re-learn all those new channels and how to operate the new remote and DVR. Should make for an interesting (and frustrating!) weekend. I don't really like learning new technical stuff....makes me feel old.
Mima, I hope your trip back north was uneventful and you arrived safe and sound. Do let us know all is well? Tammy, has it warmed up in your area yet? We had some serious rain last week but it has been very cool here....below normal temps for this time of year. I think it is suppose to warm up this weekend and then get progressively warmer from here on. Need to go grocery shopping later today to catch all the good sales....but will hopefully not spend too much! Hubby has lost 10 pounds since taking his new medication. He likes not feeling like he is starving all the time. I hope this will get him down enough to consider the knee replacement surgery....we'll see.
Tech guy from AT&T will be here in about 20 minutes so I'll check back later. Enjoy the day ladies!
03-22-2010, 05:01 AM
Good morning-we had a nice trip home-we ended up in Ny and drove from there right to the church service. Wow-Brad's sister and aunt were so surprised,
Suzanne is waitung for her urine test results to see if she has preeclampsia. And the another appt on Wed. She is on modified bed rest and is so ready to have this baby.
Well, all the floors is the house have to be ripped up because there is water underneath/ The living room is starting to smell. They will get ripped up this week and then get covered with plywood to walk on and then tiled so this cannot happen again-plus the new drainage system.
I got my computer hooked up right away.DSL
It's ony 5-we have been up since 4. Went to bed very early. Hope all are well.
03-25-2010, 07:56 AM
Suzanne is going into the hospital Sunday night and being induced Monday morning. Next week will be busy!!!
Brad has half the lr floor ripped up-cementing this afternoon. have to do it one section at a time.
We picked out the tile yesterday-got a really good buy for some of it.
That's the news. Mima
03-25-2010, 10:23 AM
The days are really nice lately. We need for some more rain to come. Maybe in a day or so,although we may not get it in out section of Fl.
We plan to go to North Fl. for the Easter weekend. The G/son is excited as we will eat at his house. I have managed to lose a few lbs. I will try not to put it back on .
It seems sometime like I am doing the same things daily.. I have been having a lot of arthritis pain in my shoulders and the Dr had to inject them. So working out in the yard is not good right now. We had a lot of things die this winter. It was the coldest winter for Fl. in many years. Our son may find some time to help me there.
Mima- I hope everything goes well with the new baby and mother..
Tammy- I am looking forward to someone telling me I look skinny in a dress. I have a really nice size 10 I bought a couple years ago. I only wore it once and then gained some weight and it is still in my closet. I plan to wear it again.. I need to lose 5-6 more lbs a reduce my rear end.. :)
Kate-I hope your hubby will be able to get his knee replacement surgery. I need one but Dr says no. My heart and other medical problems will not allow it. So now I am wearing a brace daily. It was special made and I don't like it too much. It does keep the knee bones in place. I can only wear pants and skirts wide enough to cover it. I may get brave and wear shorts again this summer.
Hello Meme, Happy.. Joanne
03-26-2010, 02:57 AM
Hey, hey, hey. I'm not dead. Like Tammy, don't know why I don't come post more often. Just life I guess. Sometimes I think I have too much of it. I know one thing I have too much of lately and that's pain ... another is RAIN. Hey, that rhymes! ha I really have missed all of you. I read back so I woudn't miss anything. Hope you are seeing better out of your eye now, Mima and sorry I missed wishing you a happy birthday Joanne. Sounds like you had a good time. I'm gaining and it's not even a special occasion. I've got to do something about that. Been saying that all winter and now it's time for the coats and sweaters to come off! I've put on about 8 pounds. Some of my friends at church are wanting me to start a class. I would be doing a devotion/lecture, and sometimes it would just be getting a subject started and having everyone sharing experiences. My best friend said she would lead a 20 minute exercise class after that and then I'd have a food/cooking, experience/tasting after that with a low-cal recipe. The whole thing would be about one to one and a half hours max once a week at the church. I'm not sure I have time with all I'm already doing and yet ... it sounds intriguing.
I haven't been sleeping. I think being up at night and snacking is what put on the pounds. I can't sleep ... so I want to eat. I go to my family Doc Mon, I'm going to ask him if there's something he can give me that will help me sleep. He isn't good for anything else!!!
Heart is better but still skips around every now and then. Not a good feeling. But it has settled down for the most part. Been a stressful day. Had to have a little talk with someone ... talk that I didn't really want to have. It's no wonder to me that my heart skips. I'm amazed that it still beats some days! :p
03-26-2010, 06:26 AM
Nice to hear from you. Meme-and Joanne. Now for Tammy, Kate and Anne.
I went to chiro yesterday-you should have heard my back crack being aligned.
My eyes are great-still need them checked once more-I have distance glasses which I don't need all the time-no computer glasses and some for reading. I might get some bifocals??????? Since I lose my glasses all the time.
The heat goes all the time here but it was nice yesterday and I went for a walk.
Glad you have your brace Joanne. Don't worry about it-most important thing is you can walk.
I am going to sleep over son's house Sunday night and dil will drive me to the hospital. They are giving her something to soften the cervix and then the pit in the morning.
She is happy it will be over-can't wait to see Lillian Alicia.
Bye for now-Mima
03-26-2010, 11:55 AM
Good morning everyone. Joanne, we had some serious rain during the night last night over this way...woke us up out of a sound sleep because we had the house opened up. Had to get up and run around shutting the windows because the wind was very strong and blowing the heavy rain in....what a mess! Gave Queenie a bath yesterday so now she is all fluffy and white....and she is still pouting! She keeps giving me the cold shoulder! Oh well, she'll get over it. Hubby has been working long hours this week and I have been busy trying to keep up with housework...this pollen better end soon! It's coating everything! We're going to power wash the pool area as soon as it leaves. We have some friends from back home stopping in next month for a visit on their way through. I'll do a dinner or something but they are staying at a brother-in-laws house so I don't need to deal with overnighters.
Mima, I hope things go smoothly for Suzanne with the birth. All I can say is better her than me! Never had the desire to be a mom so that wasn't on my agenda....though I do wish the best for women who want to do this.
Meme, I am having some serious issues with my back again and definitely need to see a chiro. I just hate going through that "get-to-know-you" routine in order to find one on my health insurance. I just wish my old chiro would suck it up and do insurances. He surely must be losing patients without having it? My thoracic spine gets out of whack and causes problems so I need to get it adjusted. I just had my mammogram the other day and I am scheduling the dreaded colonoscopy for June. Oh joy! Not losing any weight either....but hanging in there and not gaining . I need some motivation!!
Hope everyone is doing well and feeling healthy. I'll check back again!
