What is it with clothing sizes?!?
I have been wearing the same size 18 jeans since I was 247 and they are still fitting at 224. Of course they were tightish at the upper end and are beginning to be quite baggy now. But that's 23 pounds wiggle room in one size.
At what size did you find that the standard "10 pounds per dress size" begins setting in? Size 14? Size 12?
I'm not even going to try and get into a 16 until I can slide my size 18's off without unbuttoning them. It won't be too long and I'm ready to ditch these jeans!

Sizing is weird, to be sure! I currently have 16's, 18's 22's, 24's and 26's in my closet that ALL fit me right now! They are ALL Lane Bryant too, so one would think there would be some consistency in sizing, but NO!!!
Granted, they all do fit differently but believe you me, I do NOT go for the "skin tight" look or feel at all!

I think for some reason plus sizes tend to have that large difference more than misses sizes because of the way they are built. Are you wearing plus size 16 or regular 16?
Although I'll say for me size 16 misses was from about 215 to 240 and size 14 misses didn't feel too much between 202 to 215. I'm a bit bottom heavy though so it may be the way I lose weight on my bottom or what not.

With plus sizing the difference in sizes is around 2 inches in the waist, under size 12 the difference between sizes is only an inch. It took me around 20lbs per size for me to go from a 24 to 14, and around 15 lbs to go from 14 to 12. As the sizes get smaller it takes less to change.

Suzie,
to 3FC!
clothing size is so funny today. at my current weight 15 years ago I would have been a solid 12, today I have 8's and 10's
I think the 10 lb thing starts around current size 12, but I am really not sure
As for trying on a new size, you may find you skip right over a size when you finally go out and try on a few things.
I do find Old Navy (who has sales often, like $15 jeans) could be a good way to go. they have up to size 20 in the store, but with the genrous sizing, you might be able to find something to hold you over.
I always feel better in cloths that fit, i looked for good sales, bought the minimum to get through in pants, as shirt size is more forgiving...

I always found there to be a good 20 lb difference between sizes.
And like Nelie said, there seems to be a difference between plus and regular. I'm on the edge. I'm somewhere between a 14 W, 18 regular, nearly a 16??? I have no idea. There's some kind of a cliff between plus and regular and I'm not over it yet. It's like designers expect our bodies to morph on the cliff. It's very strange.

Girl, I understand. I had to lose over 30 lbs before I went from an 18 to a 16 (no lie). Then I magically fit into 14s after only a few more pounds... then I slowly went to 12s and now 10s.
I will say, do not just rely on the clothes in your closet to determine when you hit the next size down. Maybe go to stores and try on clothes of smaller sizes (you don't have to buy) to see where you are fitting. I happened to try on size 14s when I was comfortably in size 16s and the 14s slid right up and buttoned. You just never know!

I am in the same boat!!! I just recently started a thread about this too. I am so confused...my 16s still fit (pretty baggy though), but I went into the same store they came from and slid into some 14s??
Sizing is a mystery. I have consistently heard though that the more weight you lose, the less you have to lose to go down a size, so that's encouraging and motivating!

I've been a 16 misses for 20-25lbs now(I was also in my 18Ws for the same)...I got out all my 16s and 3 of the 5 pairs were getting loose in the waist, but not really in the thighs...I feel that alot of it has to do with the brand, style, and type of denim (yaknow, thick vs. thinner fabric, stretch vs. no stretch, etc)...I want to go shopping just to try on a few different 14s to see how far away I am from moving down...JUST TO KEEP ME MOTIVATED! lol

I've lost 68 pounds and literally have only gone down 2 sizes... I went from a 24 to a 20... and I'm still wearing the same jeans I was wearing 38 pounds ago... they are a little loose however nothing else I have tried on fits well...
Its also funny that you weigh about the same as I do and I'm taller yet you're in a smaller size... this is a crazy crazy world... but I cant seem to lose weight in my butt/hip area...

I think it's different for everybody, but at my higher weight, it took me almost 30 lbs to go from a 18/16 to a 14. Then the less I weighed, the less it took for me to get to a smaller size. Currently I'm a size 6.
L114S - I thought I was going crazy! At my current weight I was a solid size 8 seven years ago... now I am a 6. And 7 years ago I was a 6 at 130 lbs. I think it's all the vanity sizing!

Sizing doesn't make any more sense when you get close to goal... I have only a few pounds left and I've gone from 4/6/8 to 0/2/4. Seriously... in suits, I'm a 0?? WTF? I neither look nor feel anywhere near that small!
At the same time, I still can't get into size 4 vintage shorts... or a size 6 vintage dress... time to work on trimming my spare-tire waist fo' sho'.

I am going to add this peice of advice, from the "old" lady
don't worry about size, go for fit, find a brand that fits you NOW and feel good in your cloths, it really will make you more confident and confidence will keep you on track!

Sizing has to be the weirdest thing indeed.
Right now I'm a 16 and I'm 230lbs. Because of how my fat is distributed I can fit into a smaller pair than I probably should.
An example of my own to prove how weird sizing can be. I bought a pair of jeans at Old Navy that were 16 and for some reason they were so small and so tight I couldn't get them on!!! My butt wouldn't even fit into them. They fit like a size 14. Strrrrange...
