Default Hands Falling Asleep

During the night (more towards morning) my hands fall asleep. I sleep on my side (both sides). It is very annoying and always wakes me up. Is this a circulation problem? Do you think it is because I have so much extra weight that it's cutting off the circulation to my hands?

I had this problem too, I am a stomach sleeper, for me it was all my weight compressing down on my arms and hands (I sleep with one under the pillow usually). I changed to a tempur-pedic pillow,it was ridiculously expensive 100...cringe...but has solved this problem and I sleep wonderful now. I know wal mart has some memory foam pillows for only about 15, they may redistribute the weight enough to solve this problem as well. Hope you find a solution!

I also had the problem. I am a side sleep and use to sleep on my left arm/hand tucked under me. Now I do not sleep on my arm. I make sure both are tucked nicely under my pillow (which I also bought at a mattress place for a really, really big rediculous price but sooo very worth it). I do not wake up anymore with pins and needles anymore!

I'll have to try a special pillow.

But I just wanted to say it happens to me too, even without the weight.

Is it the whole hand? Or, fingers 1,2,3 ...or fingers 3,4,5? with part of the hand? Does it affect any part of the arm as well? Is there aching during the day? And, do you do repetitive things with your hands? And, it could be something as simple as playing piano.

I had carpal tunnel syndrome and always had my hands falling asleep at night or while driving. You should probably ask your doctor and they have a couple simple tests they can do to check for CTS. It's usually not weight related although inflammation (which can come from certain foods) is a big contributor, along with pregnancy.

Hope you can figure it out and get better sleep! It can be very frustrating.

I have problems with my neck...when it gets bad it goes clear to the numbness in my hands..the chiropractor helps me.

ALso, this sounds weird, but lay your palm flat....feel the bone running from your pinky side writs to your elbow...then feel the bone running on the other side of your wrist --follow the two bones up until about two inches -- knead the top part of your arm between the two bones...if it hurts..the tight muscle is causing some of the numbness...
